This is hard to rate, I am giving it a 4 because I think a few more listens and I am really going to enjoy this beautiful mess, Truly an explosion
If you were in college in 1970 this would have been everywhere. great musicianship, great feel. But just a "sure its good" from me, would never drop cash to own it
Long but really pleasant listening. I did not expect to listen to it in sitting
definitely not my style not really into World Music, but its good background music
I need to revist this might be a 4
listen to again, might be a 4
might be a 4 with more listens
one good song, the rest was blah
I can see why people that like this kinda of music would love this album but for me... bleh
This is an album from 1966 but it sounds like something closer to 56. not a knock its a fun little album.
Honestly this is good stuff, not something I would probably play again but I like it
Not the album I was expecting and not as outstanding, but still good
never heard of this before, not my usual thing but wow what a voice
I would have loved this album of I heard it at the time, the opening bass is sublime.
For whatever reason, I thought this was good at the time, listening to it back pretty boring
I dont know how to sonically place this. Its all over the map but in a cohesive way rather than a chaotic way. It feels like no genre at all, but also feels like every rock genre. I wonderful discovery
A few more listens and this will probably be 4, super chill
One of my all time favourite songs by my all time favourite and this only gets a three. It would be an easy 4 but it is really only half an album. I appreciate where it stands in the discography and why, but I would never just listen to side b
this should probably rate higher, but other than one song I would never listen to it by choice
week second half keeps this from hitting a 5
some good songs, I might even add a few. but overall not my thing. I wouldnt choose to play the album again
repetitive and boring, I know that is the point but...
Instrumental so just 2 stars good vibes though
couple of real bangers on this pure classics of the area
Not my taste but I think its pretty good for its genre
mostly if not entirely covers of standards, good enough for a once through
I was expecting something much more interesting than this.
I was lost by this album, stylistically varied with no real over reaching themes no great musicianship and only one stand out song. I can only assume this is on the list for some historical reason as it is not a great example of anything. just competent musicianship
I was hoping to like this a lot more, I enjoyed it but it did not wow me
Really more a 4.5 let down by the cover, but a perennial favourite for the last 40 years and Bowie right smack in the middle of his most important era
might be a three, but nothing really grabbed me, need to come back to this
This is what happens when you listen to Dummy and think we can do that. But you dont have the voice, musicianship, production or understanding of what made that album great. All this album did was make me want to go and listen to Portishead and Underworld. In fairness the remix of Wrong was pretty catchy.
boring not at all my style
boring soft country, not even as background
I had to listen to this twice, the first time I was really underwhelmed and could not figure out why it was on this list. The second listen was much more enjoyable, I knew the vibe going in and wasnt trying to second guess. I just relaxed and floated along with smooth jazzy crooner type of vibe. beautiful and almost sensual
This is one of the defining albums of my life. I am giving it a 5 but honestly it’s a 4 if I was not so attached to it
Completely different from the first album by this duo. This album is more acoustic with a touch of country in and out of some songs. I dont know they got even one album on the list let alone 2. Very mid tier band and as far as I can tell not historically signficant in anyway
45 seconds into this album I new I wasnt going to like it. 38 minutes and 37 seconds later, I was right. There is nothing in this me. Apparently this is an important Prog Rock record, but to me it is just boring
I can imagine that this is a quite highly regarded album in it category at its time, it just fall firmly into the area of "I dont like that style of music" The lyrics are not particularly clever, dont move me in anyway and are often a little juvenile. Why yes I do hate fun.
I liked this a lot a few more listens and it might move into a 4
Obviously not my usual thing, but I really enjoyed it, good listen. fun album
Starts off with a classic 90s pop song 4/5 second track is a weaker version than the first 3/5. The rest of the album is just the most generic uninspired paint by numbers “pop” ever. Barely suitable for a background song in a Hallmark movie. Overall barely a 2
I would give this 3.5 if I could. Not their best but not their best. This is a transition album from the first three amazing albums to the their biggest hit with a completely new sound. Notable mostly as it was the first time most people heard them
If this had been vinyl an amazing side killer after killer after killer. One or two tracks just bring this down a touch almost perfect.
Too many classics all on one album a few 'meh' tracks but overall amazing
Half way through I was sure this was two, one good song and then nothing of any interest. the back half had 2 good songs, one made it my playlist, so barely a three. Not sure why this is album anyone needs to hear.
no real notes, i a nice relaxing listen.
I was sort of dreading this, seen to many posts about it that seemed to suggest it was a polarising difficult album. I actually loved the kick off track, and the rest of the album was a really good listen. Makes think that if Radiohead had formed in 1969 they might sound like this. Second listen just reaffirmed this is a solid enjoyable album. Plays close to the art/prog rock thing I am very iffy on but I never lost interest and will play again
I liked this, better than the first album I got from them. Still nothing better than 3 stars, but three really listenable songs that might make my playlist
Not at all a style I would choose to listen to, but extremely listenable and enjoyable for me nonetheless
I wanted to like this but 1 song I will listen to and the rest is background music
Going in I was going to give this 4, I had this album and loved it. OMG I forgot how amazing this album is. Almost every song is a stunner. Her voice is amazing and the lyrics powerful and moving. On of the best reflections on loss and grief
I really tried to like this album. I really did. But I just cant
i really thought I was going to like this more than did, Good listen, just didnt wow me
Some standout tracks, but over all too many that just dont merit a relisten
Not my thing, I have never really liked world music, but its an enjoyable listen
huh wa? why did you wake me up.
I am completely missing whatever the appeal of this is supposed to be.
