Let's Get It On
Marvin GayeWhat an absolute treat. This album has been in my collection for ages. I adore Marvin Gaye. He had the voice of an angel when he was on this earth and he is an angel up there now. Superb
What an absolute treat. This album has been in my collection for ages. I adore Marvin Gaye. He had the voice of an angel when he was on this earth and he is an angel up there now. Superb
Boring
Very pleasant listen. Although I thought musically it was quite repetitive it kind of grows on you. The music builds up to a crescendo. I would have put it more in a light classical genre to that of jazz but I guess the overall tone of the piano was somewhat akin to jazz. It was hypnotic listening and very relaxing. 👍
Why is this in this list of albums we must listen to ? Why? It probably got its place for its very badness. I didn't have the option to give it a zero rating so reluctantly it gets one although it represents zero.
Why oh why do i keep getting hip hop. I can't stand it but lately getting loads. Change the record !!
Very surprised by this album by how much I liked it. Never really got into Neil Young although I knew it was a classic. Particularly liked the live tracks featuring The Birds.
I listened to the end. What an experience! One I won't be repeating 🤣 I suffered until the end , appreciate a lot of people like them but I am not one. I would rate it zero star based on my listening experience 🫣 but that's not an option so gave it one.
Only listened to a bit. Not my thing sorry
It was OK.
This album was absolutely brilliant. The voice of Aretha Franklin is just beautiful. Lady Soul she certainly was and always will be. ❤️
Not a big fan of Donavan so do not appreciate his work sorry
Make a,note to save and listen
Enjoyed listening to this. Good mixture of familiar and unfamiliar songs. Brilliant harmonys as one expects from The beach boys. 👍
Very pleasant. Chilled out. Good listen
Very sceptical of this when it popped up but I listened and was very pleasantly surprised. I always thought of Nora Jones as tedious and boring but I found the album to be extremely relaxing and chilled out. She has a beautiful voice. Glad I listened and well worthy of max star rating. 🌟
Was certaìn I wouldn't enjoy this album although I knew it's highly acclaimed as one of the best albums 2nd only to Thriller I believe. Having listened i was surprised by how much I didn't mind it. Good guitar playing throughout, lyrics I could actually hear although still not keen on the screechiness of Brian Johnson's vocals. Yeah, not a bad listened hence the reason I gave it 4 stars.
Very upbeat and energetic. Good listen worthy of 3 stars
Well what can i say about this. Absolutely awesome. I ❤️ The Beatles and what an iconic album this is. So loved the inclusion of the acoustic takes at the end of the album and the banter between them. So cool and a bit emotional too hearing John's voice talking so candidly. Brilliant
Quite enjoyed this one. Don't mind a little jazz and this was a good example of that genre. Liked the Spanish influence in the form of the Spanish guitar that was threaded through. Worthy of 3 stars.
Really enjoyed this. Good mix of blues with a wee bit of country and western. A bit Dylanesque, Glenn Camble, he did a cover on one of the tracks featured on this album. Even reminded me a little of Johnny Cash. Deep vocals. Certainly give it 4 stars. Great listen.
One of my favourite albums of all time. An absolute classic. Bought it when it came out. Brilliant ❤️
Remember this album coming out in the days when progressive rock bands didn't release singles from albums. Not a massive fan of this music genre but again some of it I don't mind too much. Listened to this album and thought it was OK apart from the opening track which I wasn't keen on. Give it 3 stars
Love a bit of Dusty Springfield. 60's icon. Beautiful voice.
It's OK. Not keen on live albums generally and thought this one a bit samey. Not a bad listen and I probably wasn't in the mood when I listened to it. Sam Cooke is a respected artist so worthy of 4 stars regardless
Not keen on electronic music in general, some is better than others, I didn't listen to the all of this album due to time or lack of it
Thought this was good. Like post punk but hadn't heard of this band. A bit like The Stranglers and Joy Division in parts which isn't really surprising. Pretty good overall.
Enjoyed this. Reminded me a little of Massive Attack. Good Listen overall
Absolutely fabulous. The beautiful voice of Ella Fitzgerald and the timeless music of Gerswin. What a combo. Brilliant
Like Jimi Hendrix. Legendary status. Enjoyed this 👌
Brilliant ❤️
Brilliant. Nothing more to be said.
Surprisingly I quite enjoyed this. Country folk isn't my favourite musical genre by a mile but found it quite mellow and each song told a story. Overall not a bad listen
A good album from a legendary band. The earlier stuff was very bluesy. I believe a lot of their music is influenced by black American blues. Classic. Enjoyed it.
Tedious and dreary. Sorry 😞
Really liked this.
Brilliant. Loved it
Absolutely lovely. So relaxing. The best jazz saxophonist ever. Fabulous 👌
Not my cup of tea. Found it quite tedious
Brilliant. Love the beach boys, love Brian Wilson.
Not for me. Thought I might like it as i have heard some of her music before but no, sorry.
Really enjoyed this live album. Didn't like country music much but since signing up for the 1001 albums you must listen to etc...its opened me up to music I would not have listened to otherwise.
Didn't think i would like this very much as I am not generally a fan of heavy rock music and I put Iron Maiden in this category. I was pleasantly surprised listening to this album. Some good guitar sounds and vocals I could understand and weren't too 'screechy' 😅 Overall not a bad listen
Absolutely fantastic. Still have the album press aswell as in digital form. Anything that Nile Rodgers produces can't be bad.
Absolutely fab loved it ❤️ 😀
A good rapping album which is well produced. Personally it wasn't for me but I can look beyond that and rate it for the quality of sound and lyrical content. Although it's not my music it's worthy of 3 stars
More of a fan of new wave which followed on from post punk. Detected shades of The Stranglers in this album. Overall a bit too screechy on the vocals for my taste.
Very good. Have always liked this band. Good sound and distinctive vocals. 👍👌
Absolute brilliant album. Lennon laid bare, emotionally charged lyrics that resonate. Inspired by the woman who really got him. Brilliant stuff 👏
Really liked this. Genesis are a good band. Like both the early stuff with Peter Gabriel as leas vocalist and later when Phil Collins took over 👍
Absolutely fantastic. Michael Jackson can do no wrong. Simply brilliant 👏
Listened to this late in bed with the volume turned low. Perfect conditions to listening to this relaxing chilled out album.
Not really my thing. Not a genre I like and though well produced etc...I found it boring and repetitive. One or 2 tracks were OK but on the whole didn't enjoy it
Excellent. Best female artist of all time. Absolutely brilliant 👏
Absolutely brilliant. Remember getting this when it came out. One of the best artists of all time. Micheal was such a talent and was so mis-understood. A victim of manipulation and exploited by many.
Not really my thing. The music was OK but didn't like the female vocalist. Overall did not particularly wnjoy
Really enjoyed this. Never before considered myself a lover of country music but i found this interesting and very enjoyable. Glad i listened
Absolutely fantastic. Big fan of Marvin Gaye and Whats going on is THE best album he did. Music a delight to Listen to. First class production and meaningful hit home lyrics especially on 'Makes me wanna holla'. Superb stuff from the man who had the voice of an angel.
Big fan of Michael Kiwanuka. Big thumbs up
Terrible. Sorry Jack Elliott. Boring tedious and dull. I would give it nil pois if I could so, reluctantly it gets one 🫣
Thought I would like this because I knew Iggy pop was an influence upon David Bowie and they had collaborated on things together but sadly I didn't like it.
Quite enjoyed this. Was a little Talking Head'esque. Good listen overall
Absolutely superb. What an album! Conceptually brilliant, music, brilliant. Love love love .
Absolutely brilliant. Such an iconic band. They are beyond legends. Love their early stuff, love their later stuff. Just love them. ❤️
Didn't think I would like this album when I began listening but as it progressed it got better. There were certain tracks that were a bit reminiscent of The Cure, a band I like but didn't have the distinctive vocals. This seemed to serve this opinion as my streaming service goes on to select similar genres when the album selector ends. In this case , Pictures of you was the first track selected when Bossanova finished. Not a bad judgement by me I thought 🙂. This album is worthy of 3 stars , would have given it more it it didn't go randomly into screechy vocals which are more akin to heavy metal
Really enjoyed enjoyed this. Live at San Quentin came up last time and that was also great. Never thought I would enjoy this as its not the genre I listen to but surprised myself. Its fun and the songs tell a real story. 👍
Absolutely beautiful. Soft buttery jazz that one simply melts into. Really recommend this album. 👌
Really enjoyed this. Love the distinctive vocals of Lou Reed. A band so ahead of its time. Cannot believe this album was made nearly 60 years ago, still sounds so fresh. It's little wonder that they influenced so many music genres and so many bands were created on the influence they provided. Amazing.
Remembered the name from the 70's. Thought he was in the musical bracket of Steely Dan etc...the album content was very different to the name I associated with it. Overall I liked it. Songs go from ballads to almost manic noise. Incredible variation throughout the album that takes the listener on a musical journey. Quite enjoyable
Echoes of Jimi Hendrix aswell as the blues of The Rolling Stones I thought at times throughout the album but maybe that's just me. Not sure what thought overall. Not bad, not great.
Absolutely brilliant. Have always liked the innovative music of Gary Numan. This album certainly lives up to its title because it was indeed a pleasure to listen to.👍👐
You can't give this album a bad review as Led Zeppelin are such a highly acclaimed rock band. For me personally I wasn't so keen but my views do not represent popular concensus in any way.
Whilst I like the crooning tones of Sinatra, this album I found quite tedious. Fine in a late night cocktail bar or chilled out club venue as the album title would suggest , but not to listen to at home through earphones with the TV on. It's obviously classic so worthy of 4 stars. It was my poor listening timing I feel.
Know this metal genre is popular with a lot but I ain't one of 'em 🤣. Loathed this!
Didn't think i was going to like this at first. Have heard of this band but never really got into them. The album grew on me and I found the music to be well produced and the material original. Quite a rap influence threaded through. Wouldn't go as far to call myself a fan but it was OK
Whilst I appreciate the longevity of this album and its inclusion in the must listen to album list, I have to say I failed to appreciate it. It seemed very repetitive and all I picked up on was the constant beating of the conga drumming. It reminded me of jungle tribal music and whilst I am aware of the cultural meaning that surrounds this type of music, it really wasn't for me so I am voting purely on my listening experience.
Absolutely brilliant. What's not to like about The Beach Boys. Brilliant harmonies. They are the sound of summer. Makes me want to put on a pair of Vans and grab my surfboard. Great stuff. 👍
It was very much of it's time. Easy to listen to. Harmless and undemanding. Bit repetitive but classic in its own way. Worthy of 3 stars.
Brilliant album. So many familiar songs on this. Loved the New Romantic genre of the early 80's. Bands like Duran Duran, Ultravox, Japan , Howard Jones. Fab decade for music. Then later on giving way for fantastic bands as The Smiths and The Cure. Rio probably Duran's best in my opinion. Love it. 👍
This album is sensational. I love Jim Kerr's distinctive vocals and the music is brilliant. Such a great sound. One of my favourite bands. It's worth a listen for the instrumental too. Fabulous 👌
An interesting album. Going from noise to something melodic and quite humorous too, buy maybe that's just me. I listened until the end because I found the whole thing intriguing but overall its not my thing. Creatively put together though so for that alone it's not a bad listening experience. Having said that don't think I be listening again though.
Absolutely brilliant.
Do the Rolling Stones ever make a bad album? If so, this isn't one of them.
Not a bad listen. Classic American rock and blues. Good to listen to on a summer road trip I guess. Worthy of 3 stars
Really good album and worthy of the acclaim it got upon its release. Good sounds, good vocals. All round a very cleverly put together album. 👍
Very mellow silky jazz. Perfect listening at a piano bar or cocktail bar or cosy dinner for two. Recording very clear for 1957, must have been remastered. Good chilled out listen. 👍
Thought i was going to like this offering. Hadn't heard of this artist before and I like Indie music and the 90's decade. Upon listening I was very disappointed. Thought it dull and tedious.
Absolutely stunning album by one of the best solo female artists of her generation. Loved it. 👍
Overall didn't like this. Quite an original concept but of its time nevertheless. A couple of tracks were a little Hendrixesque, especially vocally. Overall not really my thing.
Fab album. As as Oasis fan, cannot fail not to like this band. This was, in my opinion their best album. 👍
Quite enjoyed this. Relaxing, happy and chilled out. Surprised myself 👍
Although not a fan of Elvis, he is a legend and singing icon. This album was OK because it was a later one. Didn't like the early fifties pure rock n roll he did although I recognise these are classics. Songs featured on here such as Suspicious Minds, In the ghetto and Daddy don't cry are haunting ballads. This deserves its place in the album Hall of fame
Absolutely brilliant. Iconic album from an iconic band. Simply love the sounds that The Edge produces, alongside the voice of Bono. Pure class 👍
What's not to like about the light summery tones that The Isley's produce. Uplifting. Great listen.
Very original overall. Not a bad listen. Not sure of the quality of the vocals but seems to go with the general sound. It was OK.
Very buttery jazz tones. Timeless and classic.
Brilliant album. Good bass sounds, good rhythm and vocals throughout. Anyone who is a fan of Nirvana and the Stone Roses should like this. I am and i did. Fab 👌 👍
Absolutely loved this. Always been a fan of this band. Love Gaz Coombes vocals. Brilliant music. Can't go wrong. Brilliant 👍
How can you not like this. Superb music production, brilliant arrangements. Combine this with the talented writing of Mssrs Benny and Bjorn together with the fab voices of Anna and Frieda and you have the recipe for continuous success. Filled with familiar singalong tunes its a brilliant listen. 👍
Very good album. Love the beat and the soul funk sound of Sly and Co. Chilled out and foot tapping at the same time. Deserves its place in 1001 albums. 👍
Alright here and there. Some good guitar sounds which you expect with indie music but overall, not that enjoyable 🤔
Very good listen. Jim Morrison had such a distinctive soft but strong voice that belied his age and has now become immortalised. The Doors music was not just a product of their time. It's still a pleasure to listen to today which makes this band a classic. Brilliant 👍
Peter Gabriel is a very original creative artist. Maybe an acquired taste but i have always liked him, going back to the days when he was the lead singer with Genesis. Very good listen.
Not an album you can listen to very often because it's about grief and associated emotions. Beautifully written, it's more poetic than musical in my opinion. Not at all familiar with this band's work but this album is very personal and its worth a listen. It's quite haunting.
Brilliant takes me back to my youth. Good music. What's not to like
This guy is an absolute legend. One of his best albums.
Fab fab
Enjoyed this. Haven't really listened to a lot of Green Day before but glad i did. I liked the energy and the music is good. Good listen 👍
Love the chilled out funk soul sound of Sly &Family Stone. 👍
One of Bowie's best albums in my opinion. Loved the way he changed his music style throughout his brilliant career and the alter egos that went with it. Nobody can ever get close to what this genius and legend produced over the years. Just amazing. Would give this 10 stars if I could. 👍
Thought the R&B music vibes throughout this album were really good. Some of it reminiscent of The Stones in an inferior kind of way though. Vocally I thought it was very weak, especially the harmonies. Think it was a live recording and it's the first time I have listened to this band in fairness. Overall not bad. Would have given it more stars if I had liked the vocals more
Why is this in this list of albums we must listen to ? Why? It probably got its place for its very badness. I didn't have the option to give it a zero rating so reluctantly it gets one although it represents zero.
Really liked this. Love the distinctive vocals. Good band.
Really good album. Distinctive vocally and musically. Recommend this.
Absolutely brilliant. If you haven't listened to this band I suggest you do. Slight hints of U2 on some tracks I thought.
Brilliant album by this iconic Irish singer. It's hauntingly beautiful in parts and a little upbeat musically in parts. Her voice is lovely and the last track or nearly the last track where she sings with no music at all , it's just her voice is brilliant. Good listen 👍
Not for me.
Forget Beyonce or Taylor Swift, give me this lady Any day. Beautiful voice. Loved it
An iconic album that topped the charts for months. Liked the gentle soothing sounds featured throughout together with the varied vocals of Stevie Nicks, Christine Mcvie and Lyndsey Buckingham. Although I did enjoy it I prefer Tango in the night but that's down to personal preference. This is a giant of an album and worthy of its place on here.
Not a band I am familiar with. At first listen I thought it was going to be awful but as the album progressed I got more into it. Good vocals, good energy. It OK.
Absolutely loved this. The energy, the beat, the sound. Cannot fault it. Made me want to go clubbing all over again and hit the dance floor. Uplifting feelgood stuff. Good mixture of acid house hip hop and electronica. Brilliant
Didn't appreciate this band at the height of their fame and didn't think i would like this album but having listened to all 2 hours and 39 mins of it have to say I did. Its musical theatre and quite funny. Glad i listened
Although not to my personal taste, respect has to be given to Deep Purple. Their brand of progressive rock which was so popular during the early 70's achieved global success, hence the title of this live album. Ritchie Blackmore's guitar playing is legendary in its own right but Ian Gillan's screechy vocals leaves my ears cringing 😅. This album is worthy of acclaim even though its not for me.
Just your average rock album. Nothing special
Brilliant. Love the unique sound Red Hot Chili Peppers produce. The guitar, the bass and the vocals all come together perfectly. Fab ❤️
Like the distinctive vocals of Elvis Costello and very good lyrics too. Good album and a mix of tempo throughout. Worth a listen.
Didn't think I was going to like this at first but it grew on me. The instrumentals throughout the album are really good. Chilled out funk I would describe it as. Prefer the instrumentals to the vocals if i am honest but overall, worth a listen
OK,ish
Very underrated artist in my opinion. Lovely voice, love Anita Baker 👍
I would give this 10 stars if i could. This album is nothing short of magnificent. Not for the easily offended due to the explicitness of the lyrics. It is theatre set to what is brilliant music. Intelligent rap, brutal but so raw and emotional. Left me in complete awe after listening. Wow.
Haven't listened to much of this band's music before although I knew of them. I enjoyed it. Good guitar sounds throughout, good vocals. Worth a listen
I would rather watch paint dry than listen to this old man warbling on. I just don't get the whole Dylan thing. Have to give it one star sadly as there isn't an option for zero!
Dreadful
Can't go wrong with ZZ Top. The American R&B sounds they produce are uplifting and harmless. Good all round listen 👍
What a fun album. Trippy vibes of the hippie 60's era with an eclectic mix of Latin America, which made for a very unique sound. I really enjoyed it
Average
I really liked this. Hadn't heard of this artist prior to listening. The vocals were gorgeous, the music was well written, well produced , resulting in a sound I got into from the off. Brilliant
This was a very enjoyable listen. A weird combination of country , orchestral and I am not sure what else. Vocally I picked up on a Lou Reed vibe , especially on the opening track. Overall the album was well produced with really good arrangements throughout. I could describe it as enjoyable monotony but that's being a bit unfair, it's worth a listen .
Having listened to a previous album I thought it a bit weird but this album is much better, more commercial in some ways with better known songs especially the opening track. Rundgren is synonymous with the early 70's and this album very much supports that. Pleasant listening overall.
Love the sound of Jim Morrison's voice. Now immortalised forever. Culminating in Riders on the storm. Excellent album and deserves its acclaim.
Sensational. What an album. The unique vocals of Morrissey, brilliant lyrics and that fabulous guitar sound that Johnny Marr produces. One of my favourite bands and always will be. Simply brilliant 👏
Never a self declared Elvis fan so I wasn't overly thrilled when this album popped up but thought I might aswell have a listen. It was actually quite good. Conveyed that simplicity that was so much a part of late 50's, early 60's music. Obviously Elvis is a Global phenomenon so my opinion doesn't really feature in the grand scheme of things. I can see why he was , and remains popular. Glad I listened and cannot give this a low rating
This is a brilliant concept album and the lyrics are insightful into social surroundings. Quintessentially very British and representative of the 60's era. The Kinks highlighted this so well throughout their music. Dedicated follower of fashion, Waterloo sunset etc. They were a very influential band and the songwriting talent of Ray and Dave Davies deserves recognition. Good listen
Not a band I tend to gravitate towards but listening to this did conjure up nostalgia of the early 70's when this band was very influential in the progressive rock genre, alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Deep Purple 's sound is actually quite palatable, it's not that continual white noise pound you get from 'metal'. Ritchie Blackmore 's guitar playing is very good. Got to give this album respect. Overall, an OK listen
Never heard of this artist or album but what an interesting collection of music. So diverse throughout. Ranging from buttery cocktail jazz to monologue to an intriguing poisoned fairy tale ending with Last Embrace. Written as a soundtrack for an imaginary film. Very creative. I really enjoyed it
Absolutely loved this. Soft mellow sound of Sade. I would put this more in the genre of soft jazz linked with a touch of soul rather than pop and soul. The album is more sophisticated to warrant coming under the genre of pop. Brilliant. Loved it.
Tedious!
Absolutely fabulous. Didn't know of this band until Glastonbury this year i am ashamed to say but so glad I have discovered them now. Sheer class
Not my taste at all but gave it 3 stars because its Black Sabbath and many are appreciative.
I really liked this. Its so out there and it's art in music . Love Lou Reed, love the band. Brilliant
Absolutely brilliant. Production superb, music so cool. The distinctive voice of Curtis Mayfield. This album was a joy to listen to.
One of Rod Stewart's best albums. The classic Maggie May, the beautiful Mandolin Wind, I'm losing you , Every picture tells a story etc... brilliant.
The Strokes are quite an understated band. I like their stuff.
This album was very good. Unusual lyrics accompanied by really quite soft music. Sound in both musical and vocal quality. At times it was a bit Jaggeresque vocally and other tracks traces of The Stranglers were evident. I listened to the whole 2 hours in one hit which I didn't think I would be able to prior to listening. A hybrid between blues and new wave in my opinion and it worked 👍
This album has been accused as being self indulgent by some, maybe it is but overall its very enjoyable. I can imagine some of the pieces being used as a musical backdrop to a cool art installation. Floaty ethereal objects gently suspended in the air, metamorpising. That's the effect it had on me whilst listening. Relaxing and chilled out. 👍
This album was a surprise listen in a good way. Buttery chilled out music throughout. In some ways it was reminiscent of the early Elvis bollards and it reminded me of other artists down the years, in some ways it wasnt/isn't dissimilar to croon. Lovely album 👍
Michael Jackson's best album in my opinion. Absolutely fabulous. Good production , good arrangements, music brilliant.
Bit dull but the title track is indeed a beautiful song. Never sure how I feel about Simon and Garfunkel. I think I like them more than I don't like them
Classic album by the wonderful Peter Gabriel. Sheer class
Gets compared to Dylan. Knopfler's voice way outshines him. Good album.
A very nice collection of music. Thought it was going to be weird, perhaps to some it is. I thought the music was quite haunting. Perhaps a little samey but that didn't detract from the enjoyment of the album. Remember Eno from the days of Roxy Music when he always looked like the weird one 🤣. Very chilled out and relaxing collection. Worth a listen
Unplugged, rolled back American blues. This album takes them right back to their roots. Not bad from the boys from Dartford. Captures the laid back American vibes with the slow harmonica on some of the tracks. I could be in some dusty old American Town because this is where the album took me. Brilliant 👍
It might well be an album of covers but my, brilliantly done covers. Doesn't take a genius to work out what a huge success they went on to be. Fabulous
Call this post punk?? Sorry but American bands just can't do punk. This was repetitious rubbish. Vocals were awful. Would give it zero stars if the option was there but reluctantly it will have to be one 👎
An iconic album. Probably the best album of that decade. Don't know how anyone could not like this. Deserves its place in albums that must be listened to
Although I enjoyed this very chilled out music, Parisian style I did find it quite repetitive. Similar beat and musical notes throughout. Should it be in on this list though 🤔
It was OK. Music was good, vocals questionable. Average. Not great, not awful
Dire. Why is this album even on here? I am sure it's not the first time this artist has appeared either. I don't get it.
Absolutely brilliant album from one of the best bands to emerge from the post punk era. The distinctive voice of Hugh Cornwall accompanied by that energetic bass and the overall unique sound that this band produced. Everything about this band is super cool. What an album title too. Fab. Loved it 👍👍
Beautiful album of hauntingly produced ballads by this remarkable singer. Deserves to be on this album accolade list.
Very influential band. Deserves its place in the album list. Brilliant.
Really like the guitar and Latino combination of Santana. Atmospheric and chilled out music. Nice listen 👍
Classic album from a classic band. Quite laid back. No mistaking the distinctive vocals of Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham. Sometimes Buckingham reminds me of the vocalist in Reo Speedwagon, random thought that occurred to me whilst listening and REM also. Overall a good listen
Haven't heard this in a long time. Bought the studio album when it released originally because I was really into this band at the time. For a live recording it wasn't bad. Some criticise it for being pretentious, to the modern ear maybe it is, but progressive rock was innovative and exploratory. ELP were very different, there was nothing around like them. Emerson's keyboards and moog synthesiser sounds were set apart. This is a band that you either got or didn't and I got them, or at least I had an appreciation for the music they produced.
Although Bob Marley is revered by many I have never been a fan of his music. I recognise the importance of Reggae music but I don't enjoy it personally. I haven't listened to a Bob Marley track in some while and thought at times whilst listening to this album, vocally he sounded quite weak in parts but that is probably down to the nature of the song and my ears. It has to be in this album list because Marley was a major influential figure. The reason I am giving it 4 stars
It isn't good, it isn't bad. What it is is mediocre. Why is it on this list? There is nothing remarkable about this in any way
Quite an intriguing album. Each track different in musical tone and tempo and style. At times I could detect strains of Sparks, The Scissor sisters and even flashes of Bowie here and there. One track the guitar sounds were very reminiscent of The Isley Brothers distinctive sound. Overall thought it was quite good.
The Americans can't do punk. The exception being The Ramones (and I will also include Iggy Pop). This album although only 29 mins long exudes energy and fun and is absolutely brilliant. Worthy of all 5 stars
Took me a little while to get into this band but quite like them now. Very distinctive sound. Like the lazy vocals which also has an energy too. Good listen
Really like this band. The harmonies on the vocals are what gives them their distinctive sound. On some of the tracks they sound very Beatleesque. The only criticism is the album gets a little boring towards the end. Didn't like the medley track at the end of the album, it sounded a bit messy. Other than that though, quite a pleasant listen.
An album that is graced with classic hits, the most universally known is probably Freebird. I liked this album, very American both lyrically and musically. I would put it in the genre of country rock rather than hard rock, certainly where this album is concerned. A classic through and through.
Don't think that this band knew what they were and what their musical direction was. It seemed like they were trying too hard to come up with something different. Each track was individual but that made it disjointed to listen to. Overall didn't get into this
Absolute classic. Brilliant 👍
Although an highly acclaimed album, not for me. I find the vocals grating and overall the album's content is depressing and dull. I obviously don't get it but I can live in the knowledge of that.
What a voice. Such feeling he puts into every song. Really brings each song to life. Superb
This is ok as background music in a trendy bar or nightclub but not one to listen to straight. Very clever to produce sound electronically through a PC device but I did find it quite dull and repetitive. Strangely the last track on the album stayed with me for a while, thought that was the best on there.
Absolutely sensational. Loved the stripped back feel to this which the title and album cover encapsulates. Superb, but it IS The Beatles. No one can top them
Although the vocals and quality of the music was very good, hip hop is not a genre I can relate or connect to so I felt disengaged with the whole thing throughout. That said, it's worthy of a positive review and it would be unfair not to give it one just because of my personal view.
Just superb.
Disappointed. Thought I would enjoy this offering. Have listened to bits and pieces here and there and know he is a revered artist but this didn't do it for me
Absolutely superb. Love the distinctive sound of Robert Smith's vocals which depicts the sound of The Cure. So ahead of its time and still very relevant today. There are echoes of brilliant bands such as Joy Division and New Order threaded throughout the album. Didn't want it to end. It's a favourite on my play list.
It was OK. Nostalgic and evocative of an era. Good to have playing quietly in the background or a late night jazz bar.
Another superb offering by the brilliant Pet Shop boys. Thought this one was a little more ballardy than some of their others and certainly more jazzy with the use of various upbeat string sounds in other tracks. Also thought the album was more heavily produced but this didn't detract from the quality. What a way to end with the camp Go West. A joy from beginning to end 👍
Didn't know what to make of this. Was tempted to not carry on after the first two tracks which I thought were just a wall of incomprehensible noise. Then a much more melodic track came on so i carried on. Hit and miss for me , certainly not their best album
I listened but I won't put myself through that again. Definitely won't be adding this to my playlist. Utter rubbish and undeserving of a place in this list
Although not my musical taste its hard to say anything negative about this album and the cover artwork is a delight.
Although I don't mind Elvis Costello, not an out and out fan, I listened to this from beginning to end. It went on and on, way too long to put on as one continuous listen.
I liked this. Chilled out background music or cranked up as dance music. Either way it's brill
Brilliant album. Still sounds as good as when it first came out
Not a fan of hip hop
Cannot ever tire of listening experience to Pink Floyd. They are in a class of their own. The sound and quality of the music is outstanding on every level. Intelligent lyrics....just brilliant
Why oh why do i keep getting hip hop. I can't stand it but lately getting loads. Change the record !!
Haven't heard this iconic album in years and what a treat. Some little gems on here and some of the tracks carry remnants of The Beatles influence. Loved it 👍
Yet another hip hop album. Yet again a negative review. Move on
Oh surprise surprise ANOTHER hip hop rap album to endure. How many more ??
What a little gem of an album this turned out to be. Hadn't heard of this band before but this album is brilliant. Both musically and vocally sound. Very Tom Pettyesque throughout vocally and echoes of Rod Stewart's Maggie May too I thought. Fab album 👍
Just brilliant 👏
Really chilled out album. Lots of classic songs throughout. Laid back. Very enjoyable listen
Absolutely sensational. Really captures that 70's sound. Black soul and funk is so much nicer than hip hop rap. Beautifully arranged and produced. Just brilliant.
A classic jazz album. Plenty of double bass, piano, Trumpet etc. Don't know a lot about the genre of jazz music. I know there are various types of it. This to me was what I would describe as classic jazz if there is such a thing. Enjoyed listening but bit repetitive.
Very typical of its time. The sounds of the 60's. Very similar in style to The Beach Boys in parts. Quite a light enjoyable collection of songs overall
At first i was quite impressed but unfortunately this was not sustained whilst listening further. It's depressing and by the end I was considering slitting my throat, theoretically of course. Absolute rubbish
The only track I remembered from this band was Only making plans for Nigel. Upon listening thought the album quite good. Musically and vocally sound and original in production. At times reminiscent of Roland Orzabal from Tears for fears vocally. Overall not a bad listen.
One word. Dreary!
A really sweet album. Was not a fan of country music until I started on this must listen album generator. Wouldn't say i was an actual fan but I have gained a greater appreciation for the genre. The songs are so simple in construction on this album, or that's how it seems. Each song has its own little story which is another thing about country music. Really liked it
Thought this was a sweet album of hauntingly lovely music. I hadn't heard of the movie that it was the soundtrack too , an enjoyable listen
Thought this was a good album. Could say it was a little repetitive with the same underlying rhythm throughout but that didn't detract from the enjoyment, maybe enhanced it a little because it gave the music its own statement. I would place it in the genre of modern jazz as opposed to that of funk but who am I to argue that point 😅. A good listen
Absolute class
After putting myself through this all hope WAS gone. Just a wall of noise. How anybody can call this music is beyond me. Please no more metal. Next time I will skip it. Its where it belongs !
Very innovative for it's time. It's hard to believe that this album was made 50 years ago. Its a really good listen
Not bad. Familiar with a couple if the songs. Don't get the comparison with Eric Burdon or Jim Morrison , especially the latter , Jim was in a different class
Sheer class. Anything that Nile Rogers is involved with has the midas touch. Superb
Lovely album. George was always the understated beatle and he produced some wonderful music. This album is proof. Brilliant from start to finish
Yet ANOTHER rap album. Yet another zero rating in truth
Far too much rap on here. Not my thing AT ALL. Over rated rubbish
Boring
Absolutely brilliant
Really enjoyed this. Very laid back and chilled. Possibly a little repetitive because the songs do sound basically the same when listening to the whole album but pretty good overall
Nothing special about this. Don't know why it's an album that must be listened to but maybe I am missing the point. Not really bothered actually
Surprisingly good listen. Not an artist I am familiar with but good vocals, good use of instrumentation. Liked the piano and guitar mix throughout. Maybe a little repetitive listening to the whole album but on the whole quite pleasant.
Just brilliant
Not for me
Whilst the vocals and music is good, don't think there is anything exceptional to place it on this must listen to album list. There are far more iconic albums out there worthy of a placing.
Yet another undeserving rap album. Very disillusioned with this album generator just now. It's throwing up rubbish I never want to listen to lately! Wish there was a zero star rating!
Loved the simple sound of the mono recording which is so typical of the early 60's. Gives it such an identity which adds to the listening experience. Daltrey's voice sounded very different on these early recordings, at times reminiscent of Lennon. Great listen
Not a bad listen at all but I remember when punk exploded on the music scene and this doesn't even touch the sides when it comes to pink. As a fun rock and roll album, great and the cover of Fever was well done too, but punk? No way
Very original sounding band. Very keen on them although this isn't one of their best albums. The singles that were released from it are actually the best tracks from the album, which isn't always the case, in this instance it was.
Don't know why another Portishead album has come up on here ? Is it really an album I need to listen to?
Why is this album even on here?? Enought said.
Although not a fan of reggae Bob Marley takes us onto another level. Classic album, nothing not to like. Marley has legendary status
Hadn't heard this album before now. Shame on me cos I am a Bowie fan. Found it quite emotional listening to it as it was the last studio album he did before Black Star. I could detect a lot of the early stuff throughout this album. Bowie was an absolute God and nothing he did was bad. Legend
Needs no elaboration, absolutely outstanding
Can never say anything bad about Kate Bush, the most creative influential singer/songwriter of a generation. Overall not her best album but still up there. Brilliant
Absolutely brilliant. Sheer class
Really enjoyed this. In some ways it reminded me of Fleetwood Mac's later music and even at times a little of Mana's and Papa's. Excellent collection of music and the lovely voice of Grace Slick never disappoints. Stood the test of time very well.
Not a band I had listened to before. Overall thought it was great. The music was put together very well and made for an enjoyable listen. I am generally a fan of punk post punk and new wave music anyway so thought it was worth a listen. Cannot believe how many albums the band have made. Vocally the tone was similar to Hugh Cornwall of The Stranglers I thought. Good album
Absolutely superb. Voice of an angel. Love love love ❤️
Absolutely brilliant. The sound of The Everly bros is so clean and fresh and such good harmonies which is such an intrinsic part of their sound. Representative of a good era which the music evokes. Good listen
Got quite excited when this popped up because I like the new romantic music genre which was popular during the early 80's. However although I didn't mind this album I found it a bit repetitive. It retained the distinctive sound of Depeche Mode agreed but I have heard better from them
Love the melancholy sound of Massive Attack
Can't beat a bit of 70's funk and soul. Love the distinctive sound of Earth Wind and Fire.
Absolutely brilliant. Musically sound, good production and original sound.
Too many Neil Young albums appearing on here. Dreary
Absolutely brilliant. Phil Spector is the sound of Christmas. Loved it
Fab.
Very nice. Good gentle harmonies. Overall a great sound and good music. Really liked it
Sensational. One of the best albums made by The Smiths. The manic melancholy lyrics delivered superbly by Morissey are evident throughout. As for that distinctive sound that Marr does with guitar is in a class of its own. Fab
Talented song writer ❤️
Love the distinctive voice of Gaz Coombes. Forerunners to Britpop, detect the influence in some of Blur's stuff but maybe that's just me. Music is for enjoying not writing up pretentious clap trap.
Don't know what all the fuss is about. I didn't get this album at all. Trippy lyrics, dreary music. Psychedelic rock definitely. Not for me
Whilst not a huge fan of hip hop or rap I actually quite liked this album. The streetwise lyrics and quality vocals are good along with most of the music. Not sure why it's included in albums you just listen to. The track that stood out the most was DY NA MI TEE , brilliant track. Not think she was an artist with any longevity but a good album nonetheless
What a fun album. Never heard of the artist or album prior to listening. It's so uplifting and happy. Reminded me of summer holidays around the pool and on the beach. Could almost taste the tequila and lime. Perfect de stress. Brilliant
I was unfamiliar with this album and I wished I still was. Its trash, white noise at times. What is it? Will never put myself through this again. Reluctantly it gets one star because 1 wasn't an option
Didn't think I was going to like this but surprised myself. Really liked her voice and the emotions evoked within the lyrics. Vocally reminded me of Duffy at times. Glad I listened because I see Adele in a new light
Oh yet another album by this dreary man.
Great. Very typical of its day.
Memories of teenage years. This band were the epitome of the skinhead cult in their early days and they were up there at the front. Went on to become legends.
The best R&B band in the world. Absolute class. More like this every day please.
Kings of Britpop say no more. Music legends. Their best album next to Be Here Now
This isn't an album i would have chosen to listen to but glad I did, that's the good thing about this album generator. It takes you out of your comfort zone by getting you to listen to stuff you otherwise wouldn't. I thought the album was very well put together both musically and vocally
Very original band and sound. No mistaking the sound of Fergal Sharky's voice. Brilliant, takes me back to an era I loved.
Absolute classic brilliant album containing some iconic tracks love it
More grunge than punk. Not my thing. There were pockets of good guitar sounds but didn't enjoy this
After having some more 'deserving' albums popping up here recently the question has to be, what's this one doing on here? Undeserving in my opinion. Didn't get it, didn't like it
What a little gem. I had forgotten about this band and it was great to hear them again. I got hints of Chrissie Hind and Kate Bush vocally at times throughout the album. The guitar sound that you only get with top class indie music was great throughout. Brilliant 👏
What an absolute treat. This album has been in my collection for ages. I adore Marvin Gaye. He had the voice of an angel when he was on this earth and he is an angel up there now. Superb
Really enjoyed this. They were so original and the sounds really evokes the period. Exciting times for innovative and exciting music that went on to influence other bands. Great 👍
Hadn't heard of this until now but having listened I really liked it. At times I thought I could detect hints of Talking Heads and even a little Kasabian. Good listen overall. Well produced album
Who cannot fail to like these well known Anthems. Brilliant
The first few bars of the first track set the tone. Dreary
Elements of this were OK. The overall music was good, the supporting vocals were good, production good. Then the rapping began! Tolerated it for a bit but had to turn off. I am no fan of hip hop. I don't like it, I don't get it. Because Elements of it were OK it gets 2 stars
Really fab listen. The harmonies on the vocals are superb and the overall vocal sound heavenly. The real boy bands in my opinion. Absolutely brilliant. As for papa was a rolling stone .....🫠😍
Absolutely superb. Needs no more elaboration. The Beatles are up there and no band comes near
Absolutely brilliant. The gentle distinctive sound of Steely Dan. Soothing vocals, excellent musical accompaniments. This album was a bit more jazz inspired which added to the enjoyment. Loved it ❤️
There are no words to describe the sheer magnificence of this superb album. John Lennon was and always will be the God of contemporary music. There are some brilliant artists and bands that have produced some stunning stuff over the years but Lennon is the gaint of them.all. Just phenomenal
Brilliant remember the ground breaking video that accompanied Take on me. Worth a listen
Absolutely superb. Fagen is the sound of Steely Dan with the added ingredient of more buttery jazz mixed in. So laid back it's horizontal. Loved it.
Liked some tracks not others. Vocally sound and good production. Average
Sheer class. Smooth, haunting, creative. Superb
Just have to skip it when anything rap or hip hop pops up and unfortunately they pop up too often. Starting to think that this site might be bot generated 🤔 because I fail to see why these pop up so much when thinking about all the great albums that have been made. Don't get it. So wish there was a zero starred rating but as there isn't that option, reluctantly it gets one 😕
Absolutely brilliant. This album gives you good old fashioned rock &roll, country, bit of R&B. Musically sound, excellent guitar throughout, Still's vocals, and excellent production. This one definitely deserves its place.
Love the free sound of the San Francisco music scene. Good album, worth a listen.
Wasn't sure what I would make of this. I am a fan of punk, post punk , new wave etc etc but there can be poor imitations out there. This wasn't one of them. Loved the energy throughout. Good vocals delivered by a good song collection. Brilliant
Not sure what to make of this album. As a fan of Lou Reed I could detect a Lou Reedesque tone throughout but in a way I found it a but irritating. Maybe that's unfair because the vocals were good throughout, I am maybe letting bias cloud my judgement. The more acoustic tracks weren't a bad listen but some other tracks diabolical. Overall I think it's worthy of the top end of 2 stars
