Improves upon his debut, which is already fantastic. Favorites: No Action, Pump It Up, Lip Service, Radio Radio Would I listen to it again: Yes

The music is so self-assured that sometimes it's hard to believe this is their debut album. A classic and with good reason. Favorites: Runnin' with the Devil, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, I'm the One (for the scatting), Ice Cream Man Would I listen to it again: Yes
My first time listening to Television, although I have heard of them. I have to ask myself why didn't I listen to this sooner. This album is fantastic and the guitar work is extraordinary. I loved it! Favorites: Venus, Marquee Moon, Prove It Would I listen to it again: Yes
Proof that the Temptations are one of the greatest vocal groups of all time. Just wow.
The energy on this album is insane and thinking about it coming out in 1969 kinda blows my mind. Way ahead of its time. It's not for everyone but I love it. The title track is fire. Favorite: Kick Out the Jams Would I listen to it again: Yes

This is more my speed and the type of music I usually seek out. I'm familiar with a few songs from MGMT but have never listened to this full album. I really liked it. A lot of the songs start slow but really grow on you. Nothing I outright disliked. Can definitely hear a Bowie influence. Favorites: Electric Feel, Kids, Pieces of What, Of Moons Birds & Monsters Would I listen to it again? Yes
The only Wilco I've listened to before this are the two Mermaid Avenue records with Billy Bragg. You know those bands that you think you should love but just don't. I think Wilco is one of those bands for me. There were a few songs that were nice to listen to but as a whole, it didn't grab me. Favorites: Pot Kettle Black (I think because the beginning sounds like In Between Days, my favorite Cure song) Would I listen to it again? No
My first taste of Kraftwerk. You can see how much they influenced the synthpop artists that followed them and since I love those artists, not too surprising that I love this. Even with several 6+ minute songs, I was never bored. Favorites: Metropolis, The Model, Neon Lights, The Man Machine Would I listen to it again?: Yes
I'm more familiar with Common the actor than Common the rapper but consider me pleasantly surprised. Appreciate the soul/R&B-influenced backing tracks. Favorites: Be (Intro), Chi-City, The Food, They Say Would I listen to it again: Probably
I know who Traffic is but don't think I've ever really listened to them. It does tend to all blend together but love the organ. Favorites: Freedom Rider, Empty Pages Would I listen to it again: No
Not a Steely Dan fan. Never have been, never will be. However, I do like "Dirty Work".
Simply beautiful.
A classic.
I've never heard of Fred Neil but have heard a couple of his songs done by other people. This feels like a rainy day kind of album. Nice voice.
I consider myself a casual Who fan but gotta say, I loved this. They sound great and I liked hearing them in their prime since I never would have had the opportunity otherwise.
Love it.
Eh, kinda boring after awhile. I liked the opener, "Mysterons", but then it's just more of the same but not as appealing. Not for me.
What a lovely album! There's a reason these songs are considered standards and Willie does a great job interpreting them. Favorites: Stardust, Don't Get Around Much Anymore Would I listen to it again: Yes
Not for me.
I'll admit that I'm a big Elvis Costello fan so of course I love this. A really fantastic debut. "Welcome to the Working Week" might be the most perfect 90 seconds in rock.
I don't hate it but I don't particularly like it either.
My first Kinks album. It's a good one.
I have a friend whose favorite band is Iron Maiden. He would be so upset if I give this anything less than 5 stars. He should be prepared to be upset.
My second Kinks album. It's ok but I liked the concept album better.
Really enjoyed it. Great banter and great songs.
This is my 3rd Kinks album this week. I wasn't sure if I would like this album as that is a lot of Kinks at in a short period of time but this is my favorite by far. Loved it.
One of the reasons George is my favorite Beatle.
The 80s are probably my favorite decade of music so even though I've never heard The Blue Nile before, I loved this. Hit my sweet spot. Favorites: Tinsel Town in the Rain, Stay Would I listen to it again?: Yes
Never been a Pixies fan and this album didn't change my mind. One star for Kim Deal, who's cool. Everything else, eh. Would I listen to it again: No
My first Dylan album. His voice is definitely an acquired taste but didn't think it detracted from the songs, which are great. Liked it better than I thought I would. Favorites: Tangled Up in Blue, Buckets of Rain Would I listen to it again: Yes
Hey ho, let's go! Hell yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Iconic for a reason. Favorites: Blitzkrieg Bop, Beat on the Brat, I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, Let's Dance Would I listen to it again: Yes
I know Dire Straits' hits (including 'Sultan of Swings' from this album) but that's about it. A solid debut with some great guitar work. Favorites: Down to the Waterline, Sultans of Swing, Wild West End Would I listen to it again: Yes
I know a lot about Joni Mitchell but have never really listened to her. Probably not the best introduction as it's way too jazzy for me. Favorites: Shadows and Light Would I listen to it again: No
I can't be objective when it comes to Travis or this album. Been a fan of Travis since I first heard them and still love them. I loved this album when it came out and still love it. Their music just speaks to me. Favorites: Writing to Reach You, As You Are, Driftwood, Turn, Why Does It Always Rain on Me Would I listen to it again: Yes
I love Paul Weller. Love this album. Favorites: Sunflower, Wild Wood, All the Pictures on the Wall, Country, The Weaver, Hung Up Would I listen to it again: Yes
I've never listened to a full Sinatra album but have heard some of this. I think this album shows his voice off to great effect and also what a showcase for his song interpretation. And hats off to Nelson Riddle as the arrangements are wonderful. I really enjoyed this. Favorites: You Make Me Feel So Young, Too Marvelous for Words, I've Got You Under My Skin, I Thought About You Would I listen to it again: Yes
Dark and depressing.
I've heard of Grizzly Bear but have never listened to them. Not sure what I was expecting. Mostly inoffensive background music with some bursts of energy. Liked the vocals. Favorites: Two Weeks, Fine For Now Would I listen to it again: No
The music is so self-assured that sometimes it's hard to believe this is their debut album. A classic and with good reason. Favorites: Runnin' with the Devil, Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, I'm the One (for the scatting), Ice Cream Man Would I listen to it again: Yes
Practically perfect. Favorite: She Bangs the Drum Would I listen to it again: Yes
Proof that the Temptations are one of the greatest vocal groups of all time. Just wow.
I can appreciate the music but I hate the singing so much. Not for me.
This album is stacked. I could try to list favorites but it would just be pretty much the whole album.
Is it sacrilege to say I find this album a little boring? There are some definite classics ("God Only Knows" is a perfect song) but overall, I don't find it that interesting.
I was not familiar with this Stevie album but after listening to it, realized I had heard more songs than I thought (Boogie on Reggae Woman, You Haven't Done Nothin'). It's Stevie during his imperial period so of course it's fantastic. I loved it. Favorites: Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away, You Haven't Done Nothin', It Ain't No Use, They Won't Go When I Go (especially the piano intro), Please Don't Go Would I listen to it again: Yes
It's a good record and includes my favorite Beatles song but a few too many covers. Still a fun listen. Favorite: All My Loving Would I listen to it again: Yes
I was obsessed with this album in college and it hasn't lost any of its power. As close to perfect as you can get. Favorites: Plainsong, Pictures of You, Closedown, Lovesong, Lullaby, Fascination Street, Disintegration Would I listen to it again: Yes
I feel like I should like Pavement more than I actually do. This album has nothing I want to listen to again.
My first electronic record. Like the atmosphere of the first song but then it starts to get a little repetitive. Like: If I Had a Heart Would I listen to it again: No
Some stone cold classics, some snoozes but pretty good overall. Favorites: Maybe Baby, That'll Be the Day, I'm Looking For Someone to Love, Rock Me My Baby Would I listen to it again: Yes
How do you follow up an album like Rumours? This is a pretty good attempt. A little overlong but there are some gorgeous songs on this. Favorites: Over & Over, Think About Me, Sara, Sisters of the Moon, Angel Would I listen to it again: Yes
I was familiar with Alright but the rest is new to me. This is a pretty awesome album. Love the energy but it does drag a bit at the end. Favorites: I'd Like to Know, Alright, She's So Loose, Time Would I listen to it again: Yes
I've never heard of this. I kinda liked the first two songs but then it really becomes a drag.
Love, love, love, love, love. My favorite Oasis album. Favorites: Hello, Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, Cast No Shadow, Morning Glory Would I listen to it again: Yes
First listen to VU & Nico. The only song I was familiar with is "Femme Fatale" because of the REM cover. Think I prefer the Lou Reed-sung songs to Nico's.
A lot more organ than I was expecting. I like it. Favorites: Goodbye Toulouse, London Lady, Hanging Around, (Get A) Grip [on Yourself], Down in the Sewer Would I listen to it again: Yes
A couple of songs are familiar but a lot is new to me. I'm a big fan of 80s alternative/new wave/goth so love this. Favorites: Dominion, Lucretia My Reflection, This Corrosion, Flood II Would I listen to it again: Yes
Good solid 60s rock. Love the harmonies. Favorites: So You Want to Be a Rock'n'Roll Star, Have You Seen Her Face, Thoughts and Words, The Girl With No Name Would I listen to it again: Yes
These songs seem to go on forever. Not a good thing.
Probably my 3rd favorite U2 album. The Edge's guitar is amazing and the drums really drive the music. Love it. Favorites: Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year's Day, Like a Song, Surrender Would I listen to it again: Yes
I can't imagine how incredible it must have been to be in the room when this was recorded. The band swings and Sam Cooke is the ultimate showman. Absolutely amazing! Favorites: Chain Gang, Cupid, Twistin' the Night Away, Bring It On Home to Me (seriously wow!) Would I listen to it again: Yes
Background music.
Stone cold classic. Not a bad song in the bunch. Favorite: Wish You Were Here Would I listen to it again: Yes
I know the big hits but have never listened to a full album. Really loved some of the country-tinged songs, especially the title track. Favorites: Gimme Shelter, Let It Bleed, You Can't Always Get What You Want Would I listen to it again: Yes
No Nico so that's a bonus. Liked it ok although could not finish The Gift, which was unbearable. Favorites: White Light/White Heat, I Heard Her Call My Name Would I listen to it again: Probably not
Improves upon his debut, which is already fantastic. Favorites: No Action, Pump It Up, Lip Service, Radio Radio Would I listen to it again: Yes
It's alright.
Terrible.
Really loved this. Great instrumentation and vocals (especially Four Cornered Room). Love the organ on City, Country, City. Extra star for the album cover, which is awesome. Favorites: Where Was You At, Four Cornered Room, The World Is a Ghetto Would I listen to it again: Yes
This is my second Dylan record and what I've discovered is that I like him a lot more than I thought I would. Not as good as Blood on the Tracks but still enjoyable. Find that I like the acoustic songs more than the electric ones. Favorites: Maggie's Farm, On the Road Again, Gates of Eden, It's Alright Ma Would I listen to it again: Yes
This album is so long. Some bangers, a lot of filler. Hot take - Siouxsie & the Banshees' cover of "Dear Prudence" is better. Favorites: Back in the USSR, While My Guitar Gently Weeps Would I listen to it again: Probably not
What an amazing singer! Love how he goes from smooth & silky to rough & ready. Prefer the rougher sound but overall a great record. Favorites: Cry to Me, If You Need Me Would I listen to it again: Yes
I don't like it as much as Wish You Were Here but still a pretty damn great album. Favorite: Breathe (In the Air), Brain Damage Would I listen to it again: Yes
Just a cool record. Shirley Manson is a treasure. Favorite: Only Happy When It Rains Would I listen to it again: Yes
Was not expecting the synth on "Save the Life of My Child". Overall it's alright despite some classic songs. Favorites: America, Mrs. Robinson Would I listen to it again: Probably not
Is it as good as Parklife? No but it's still a pretty good album. Favorites: Beetlebum, Song 2, M.O.R.
Went in only knowing one song (which I don't even particularly care for) but enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. Some good solid pop songs. Love the organ on 'You Better Run'. Favorites: A Girl Like You, Sueno, How Can I Be Sure, You Better Run Would I listen to it again: Yes
Not totally terrible for a country album but not anything I would listen to again.
I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. Neil's voice definitely takes some getting used to but there are some really pretty songs on this album.
30 years ago, this would have been an automatic 5 stars. Now, I feel I've outgrown them but can appreciate the musicianship (except Anthony Kiedis's vocals, which really bring the songs down). Extra star for John Frusciante, who is still the best guitarist I've ever seen. Favorite: Breaking the Girl Would I listen to it again: No
Kinda boring.
I liked the beginning of Tapered Jean Girl but then the singing started and totally ruined it. Not a fan.
Is it as good as Unknown Pleasures? No. Is it still a good record? Yes. Favorites: A Means to an End, Twenty Four Hours (the guitar on both songs is tremendous) Would I listen to it again? Yes
Jazz is not my thing. I can appreciate the musicianship that is heard here but can't say I really enjoyed it. Favorite: Godchild Would I listen to it again: No
I tried, I really did but I couldn't finish it. I just do not like Steely Dan.
After listening to this, I've come to the conclusion that I am not a fan of shoegaze.
I love the Smiths because of Johnny Marr (and in spite of Morrissey). Marr's guitar playing alone deserves 5 stars. Favorites: The Headmaster Ritual, I Want the One I Can't Have, Nowhere Fast, Barbarism Begins at Home Would I listen to it again: Yes
I find that I do like this better than Blood Sugar Sex Magik but it's not something I would revisit. It does contain my all-time favorite RHCP song. Favorite: Otherside Would I listen to it again: Probably not (except Otherside)
Makes me want to get up and dance. A good example of what a great producer Niles Rodgers is. And even though I've heard "We Are Family" a million times, it is still a banger. Favorites: He's the Greatest Dancer, We Are Family Would I listen to it again: Yes
A solid debut. Favorites: Re-Hash, Tomorrow Comes Today, Clint Eastwood, Punk, 19-2000 Would I listen to it again: Yes
I'd never heard of Manu Chao so wasn't sure what to expect. A pleasant surprise and an enjoyable listen. Favorites: Je ne t'aime plus, Mentira, Would I listen to it again: Yes
I don't think I've listened to this album since it came out, but damn, is it good. Great songs, great voice. Favorites: Talkin' Bout a Revolution, Across the Lines, Baby Can I Hold You Would I listen to it again: Yes
There are so many sounds layered over each song that at times it becomes cacophonous. I'm sure there are good songs in there somewhere but it's hard to hear through all the noise. Would I listen to it again: No
Fleet Foxes is one of those bands that I've heard of but never listened to. Wasn't sure if I would like it as it can be hit or miss with these folky types of bands but pleasantly surprised. Some of the slower songs can lean a little on the twee side but overall really enjoyed it. Love the harmonies. Favorites: Ragged Wood, Quiet Houses, Your Protector, Blue Ridge Mountains Would I listen to it again: Yes
This album is so stacked with great 80s pop. Even the non-singles are bops. Favorites: When You Were Mine, Time After Time, She Bop, All Through the Night Would I listen to it again: Yes
Solid debut. Not as good as their next album (which is a masterpiece) but pretty damn close. Favorites: Rock 'N' Roll Star, Live Forever, Supersonic, Slide Away, Married with Children Would I listen to it again: Yes
I was a big fan of this when I was in college but haven't listened to it since then. Some cool songs on it and I appreciate that he did almost all the instrumentation but the lyrics tend to go a little hippy dippy. An ok debut but there's better to come. Favorites: Sitting on Top of the World, Let Love Rule, Mr. Cab Driver
Adele is a once-in-a-generation talent and this album is a testament to that. I was expecting all maudlin ballads but there are some good mid-tempo songs that bring some energy. Overall, this is a fantastic album! Favorites: Hello, I Miss You, Water Under the Bridge, Sweetest Devotion Would I listen to it again: Yes
What the hell did I just listen to? Some nice harmonies but there's a lot on this that is downright goofy. I'm coming to the conclusion after listening to 2 Beach Boys albums (with one of them being Pet Sounds) that I do not particularly like them. Favorites: None Would I listen to it again: No
A lot of bangers on this but as a Black Keys fan, even I think this album is a little long. Favorites: Next Girl, Howlin' For You, She's Long Gone, Sinister Kid Would I listen to it again: Yes
Eh. Not really for me.
Am I a Bob Dylan fan? He was never someone I sought out (knew a few of the big songs) but I've now listened to three Dylan albums (with this being my third), and enjoyed them all. Favorites: Dirt Road Blues, Standing in the Doorway, Not Dark Yet, Make You Feel My Love Would I listen to it again: Yes
Probably my favorite MJ album. Shows a pop star ascending, heading towards his peak and Quincy Jones proving he is the master. Favorites: Rock With You, Get on the Floor, Off the Wall Would I listen to it again: Yes
Never been a huge Bjork fan. This isn't changing my mind.
This is a pretty kick-ass album. They pack a lot of great tunes into 35 minutes. Favorites: I Gotta Getta, Teenage Kicks, Jump Boys, Get Over You Would I listen to it again: Yes
How can I not give this 5 stars? It really is that good. Practically perfect and includes my all-time favorite Fleetwood Mac song (The Chain). Favorites: Dreams, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, Gold Dust Woman Would I listen to it again: Yes
Pretty straightforward blues rock that gets a little repetitive but La Grange is still a banger. Favorite: La Grange Would I listen to it again: No (except La Grange)
Not for me.
An album definitely of its time. A couple of timeless classics but the majority is so stodgy. Karen's voice is the only consistently good thing about it. Favorite: We've Only Just Begun, Close to You Would I listen to it again: No
Meh. Like warmed-over Zeppelin.
There are a couple of good songs but not enough to keep my interest. Boy, does it drag. Favorite: Pinball Wizard Would I listen to it again: No
A very cool record. I think some of the songs went on a little too long showing off the instrumentation but overall I enjoyed this. Favorite: Inspiration Information Would I listen to it again: Yes
First time hearing this album in full. Pretty cool. Favorites: Soul Love, Ziggy Stardust, Suffragette City Would I listen to it again: Yes
This album is pretty cool. Some nice beats, some good music, and Missy has swagger for days. Favorites: Bring the Pain, Work It, Back in the Day Would I listen to it again: Yes
For as influential as this album is, I was surprised at how dated a few of the songs sounded, particularly Planet Caravan. I must say Ozzy is a much better singer than I gave him credit for. Favorites: Paranoid Would I listen to it again: Probably not
There is some good music on this but the singer's voice ruins it for me. Not a fan of it at all. Favorite: Comedy Would I listen to it again: No
Of its time but still timeless. Love the harmonies. Favorites: Carry On, Teach Your Children Would I listen to it again: Yes
One of the best albums of the 80s. Favorites: Red Rain, Mercy Street, In Your Eyes Would I listen to it again: Yes
Pretty straightforward hardcore punk music. Luckily I like straightforward hardcore punk music. Short but packs a punch with some humorous lyrics, which I enjoyed. Favorites: It Follows, Sob Story, Cashing In Would I listen to it again: Yes
Was not expecting that much accordion, which is really the only thing interesting about it. Very repetitive. Would I listen to it again: No
Pretty cool.
My first time listening to Television, although I have heard of them. I have to ask myself why didn't I listen to this sooner. This album is fantastic and the guitar work is extraordinary. I loved it! Favorites: Venus, Marquee Moon, Prove It Would I listen to it again: Yes
The energy on this album is insane and thinking about it coming out in 1969 kinda blows my mind. Way ahead of its time. It's not for everyone but I love it. The title track is fire. Favorite: Kick Out the Jams Would I listen to it again: Yes
Bleh.
Things I've discovered while doing this project. I like Bob Dylan a lot more than I thought I would. I dislike Joni Mitchell a lot more than I thought I would. Favorites: None Would I listen to it again: No
I was only familiar with the opening track (which I love) but never listened to the whole album. Love it. Effortlessly cool and the guitar sound is awesome. Favorites: Intro, Crystalised, Islands, Basic Space Would I listen to it again: Yes
Not my bag.
I may prefer Psychocandy or Automatic but this is still a pretty great album. Favorites: Happy When It Rains, April Skies Would I listen to it again: Yes
Second Metallica album in 3 days. Why am I being punished? Still not for me, even with an orchestra.
Damn, this is a great album. He packs a lot of goodness into just four songs. Favorite: One Woman Would I listen to it again: Yes
I find myself liking the ballads more the the uptempo songs. Overall, a pretty good live record. Favorites: Try Me, I Don't Mind Would I listen to it again: Probably
Didn't realize I knew that many Bad Company songs. Solid rock'n'roll that gets the job done. Extra star for Paul Rodgers, who is pretty damn great. Favorites: Can't Get Enough, Ready for Love, Bad Company Would I listen to it again: Yes
I did not know so many of CCR's most famous songs came from this album. A solid album. Favorites: Ramble Tamble, Lookin' Out My Back Door, Who'll Stop the Rain Would I listen to it again: Yes
Obviously the musicianship is top notch and the guitar playing is out of this world but can we talk about Jimi's vocal performance? An almost conversational approach to singing, which I love. Very underrated (the singing, not the album). Favorites: Manic Depression, Love or Confusion, Are You Experienced Would I listen to it again: Yes
Radiohead has always been hit or miss for me and this album is more miss than hit. A few songs I like but it is mostly a slog. Favorites: 2+2=5, Go to Sleep Would I listen to it again: No
A voice for the ages. And this album feels as relevant now as it did back when it was released. A total classic. Favorites: What's Going On, God Is Love, Mercy Mercy Me Would I listen to it again: Yes
A pretty self-assured debut. A lot more hits than misses and I really enjoyed it. Favorites: New Feeling, Tentative Decisions, No Compassion, Psycho Killer, Pulled Up Would I listen to it again: Yes
I've never heard of Bert Jansch. I enjoyed this - his voice combined with the guitar playing, which is outstanding, really draw you in. Favorites: Oh How Your Love Is Strong, Running From Home, Angie Would I listen to it again: Yes
Is it possible to be an Oasis fan and a Blur fan? I say yes as I'm a fan of both, although I do give a slight edge to Oasis. I love this album, lots of fun songs. Favorites: Girls & Boys, Parklife, London Loves, This Is a Low Would I listen to it again: Yes
I found this incredibly unappealing. Not for me at all. Favorites: None Would I listen to it again: No
There is no world where a 20+ minute version of Whipping Post is needed. Overly long and pointless.
A soul classic. The orchestration is amazing. Favorites: Little Child Runnin' Wild, Freddie's Dead, No Thing on Me Would I listen to it again: Yes
Prefer the faster-paced songs to the slower ones but overall, a solid record by a gifted singer-songwriter. Favorites: Mother & Child Reunion, Me & Julio Down by the Schoolyard Would I listen to it again: Probably
This is so dumb. I don't understand why this album was included.
Not a jazz fan so couldn't finish it.
The high points are incredibly high ("Sabotage" is a fantastic rock song) but a little too long to give it 5 stars. Favorites: Sure Shot, Root Down, Sabotage
Not a huge Skynyrd fan so this was alright for me. Didn't hate it but didn't particularly love it either.
Some of the arrangements are dated and a little corny (especially some of the background vocals) but my god, Ray Charles's vocals are just amazing. He really knew how to make a song his own. Favorites: Bye Bye Love, Just a Little Lovin' Would I listen to it again: Yes
Dolly Parton is a national treasure.
Blech!
Not for me.
In my top 10 of all-time favorite albums so cannot be objective about it. I love this record so much - loved it when it came out and listened to it for about a year straight, love it now. Easy 5 stars. Favorites: Too many to choose from Would I listen to it again: Yes
Just what I needed - 15 minutes of hardcore fun. Love it! Favorite: I Just Want Some Skank Would I listen to it again: Yes
What a fun album!
I know Coldplay's music is considered boring or anodyne but I really enjoy it. This is a pretty damn good album. Favorites: Politik, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Clocks, Daylight, A Rush of Blood to the Head Would I listen to it again: Yes
Learning that I'm not a big fan of electronic music. Not for me.
Man, do I hate the singing on this. So affected and lazy-sounding that any enjoyment I might have gotten out of the songs is ruined once she starts singing.
After listening to a couple of prog rock albums, I realize I am not a big fan of it. Don't need that much noodling around in my music as it just gets boring after awhile. Extra star for the harmonies, which are solid.
Not a huge fan of grunge so wasn't expecting much but liked it more than I thought I would. Favorites: My Wave, Fell on Black Days, Black Hole Sun Would I listen to it again: Probably
Make my funk the P-Funk. This album is just cool from beginning to end. Favorites: P-Funk, Give Up the Funk Would I listen to it again: Yes
Some real bangers on this but also some snoozers (especially the covers) so it's a mixed bag. The vocal harmonies are still pretty amazing. Favorite: California Dreamin' Would I listen to it again: Probably
Yeah, I hate his voice. It's not even just the sound of it, his phrasing is awful. I just can't.
I grew up listening to U2 so I don't hold Bono's pretentiousness against the band because I love the music. Killer album in a killer catalogue. And still one of the best live bands I've ever seen. Favorites: One, Until the End of the World, Ultra Violet, Acrobat (for the amazing guitar), Love Is Blindness Would I listen to it again: Yes
What a debut! Love, love, love this album. 5 stars, no notes. Favorites: Jacqueline (what a great opener), Dark of the Matinee, Auf Achse, This Fire, Michael Would I listen to it again: Yes
Not sure what I was expecting but this is pretty good. Some nice guitar work.
Pleasantly surprised. Not a huge fan of Q-Tip's voice but his flow is pretty great and the music is top notch. Favorites: Gettin' Up, ManWomanBoogie Would I listen to it again: Yes
Starts with a bang, ends with a whimper. Overall a pretty solid debut.
A fun debut. Extra star for "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn", which is fire.
Music for a lazy Sunday afternoon. Easy listening in the best sense. Favorites: Crazy Love, Caravan Would I listen to it again: Yes
I don't hate it, just don't see what all the fuss is about.
This was a tough listen. Especially knowing Syd's history. Favorites: None Would I listen to it again: No
Could not keep my attention. A little too low-key for me.
I'm learning I'm not the hugest fan of psychedelic rock but I liked this one. The mix for "Somebody to Love" is pretty fantastic. Highlight of the record.
It's a little dated but Dusty is an amazing vocalist. She really elevates these songs. Favorites: So Much Love, Son of a Preacher Man, No Easy Way Down Would I listen to it again: Yes
I've never heard of this album so wasn't quite sure what to expect. Was not expecting such a folky record but I think I like it. A nice change from the last Neil Young album I listened to. Favorites: Revolution Blues, For the Turnstiles (love the banjo) Would I listen to it again: Probably
I am familiar with "Green Light" (such a bop) but my first time listening to the whole album. What a talent she is. I really enjoyed this record. Favorites: Green Light, Sober, Liability, Supercut Would I listen to it again: Yes
I'm not a fan of country music but am discovering that I'm a fan of Willie Nelson. He's a great interpreter of songs and the emotion he's able to invoke is fantastic. Good album! Favorites: I Couldn't Believe It Was True, Red Headed Stranger Would I listen to it again: Yes
Classic 80s synthpop at its finest. Favorites: The Things That Dreams Are Made Of, Do or Die, Seconds, Love Action Would I listen to it again: Yes
Huge fan of "Stutter" (that song slaps) so found this pretty enjoyable but how come nobody talks about how similar "Connection" is to Romeo Void's "Never Say Never". Favorite: Stutter Would I listen to it again: Probably
I don't think I've had a more cathartic concert experience than singing "You Oughta Know" at the top of my lungs with 20,000 other people. Favorites: You Oughta Know, Head Over Feet Would I listen to it again: Yes
What a gorgeous record.
All I'm hearing is Rolling Stones outtakes and weirdness for weirdness' sake. It's alright. Favorites: Panic in Detroit, The Jean Genie Would I listen to it again: Probably not
Dark & moody and I love it. The Cure at (almost) their finest (Disintegration is still their finest). Favorites: One Hundred Years, The Hanging Garden, Siamese Twins, Cold Would I listen to it again: Yes
Pretty good. Find I'm enjoying the spacier songs but overall, I like it. Favorites: Monolith, Bang a Gong, Planet Queen Would I listen to it again: Yes
Beck is so cool and this album just grooves. Love it! Favorites: Devils Haircut, The New Pollution, Ramshackle Would I listen to it again: Yes
Nope
Not a fan of electronic music but I had higher hopes for this album as I really liked the opening track (love the way it builds). But alas, it was all downhill from there. Nothing else appealed to me at all. Favorite: Dirge Would I listen to it again: No
It's alright. Just found it a little boring. Favorite: Dime Western Would I listen to it again: No
My first time listening to this album even though I know it has influenced countless artists. I can see why that is because it is pretty damn great. I regret not listening to it sooner. The opener is a scorcher. Favorites: Gloria, Free Money Would I listen to it again: Yes
If you grew up in the 80s, you could not escape the hits from this record. I thought it was alright nothing special back then and nothing's changed my mind.
A little too jazzy for me. Favorites: And When I Die, You've Made Me So Very Happy Would I listen to it again: No (except the two songs above)
Too tired for this shit today. Extra star for "In the End", which I still like.
Beautiful voice. Prefer the upbeat songs to the slower ones (they tend to drag) but overall, this is pretty good for a country album.
Background music. Nothing really grabs you. Favorite: None Would I listen to it again: No
I really like it but then again, I like Britpop. Favorites: There Goes the Fear, N.Y., Friday's Dust, Pounding Would I listen to it again: Yes
Biggest surprise about this album (US version) is how incredibly dated so much of it sounds. Favorite: Paint It Black Would I listen to it again: No
Hot damn, what an album! Siouxsie is still the coolest and "Spellbound" is still fire. Favorites: Spellbound, Arabian Knights Would I listen to it again: Yes
Some of the samples are cool but everything else is annoying af. Unlistenable for me.
Like the beats.
The Hives are better.
Vocals fantastic, horns amazing, and the bass playing is extra in the best way. And it has xylophone!?! This whole album is fire. More of this, please. Favorites: Shining Star, That's the Way of the World, Happy Feelin' (I honestly could list almost every song) Would I listen to it again: Yes
Love the instrumentation. The keyboard in "Missing Pieces" is fire. Overall, I really like this. Favorites: Freedom at 21, Love Interruption Would I listen to it again: Yes
I'm sorry but nobody needs a 20-minute version of "Space Truckin". Make it stop.
It's grew on me the longer I listened. The organ really carries the load on a lot of the songs, adding needed texture. Pretty good overall. Favorites: The last 1-2 minutes of Higgle-dy Piggle-dy, the organ in Love Came Tumblin' Would I listen to it again: Probably
I can take or leave ska but I love this. The energy, the horns, the social commentary, the general Britishness of it all. 5 out of 5. Favorites: Message to You Rudy, Nite Klub, Monkey Man Would I listen to it again: Yes
I was so sure I had never heard a Massive Attack song but it turns out I was wrong. Overall it's alright but not something I would seek out. Unless I needed a nap because all it does is make me sleepy. Favorite: Safe From Home (the one I've heard before) Would I listen to it again: No
I used to not be a fan of the White Stripes. But then it just clicked (I'm pretty sure "Conquest" was the catalyst) and I finally got it. They rock. This album rocks. Favorites: Seven Nation Army, There's No Home for You Here, Ball and Biscuit, The Air Near My Fingers Would I listen to it again: Yes
I learned about Big Star from REM and the Replacements. They knew what they were talking about. Favorites: The Ballad of El Goodo, In the Street, My Life Is Right, Watch the Sunrise (my god, what a beautiful song!) Would I listen to it again: Yes
Noping out of this one.
I still am a big fan of the Smiths, despite all of Morrissey's bullshit. Johnny Marr's guitar playing is unparalleled and shines throughout this album. Favorites: Cemetry Gates, Bigmouth Strikes Again (the guitar riff is kick-ass), The Boy With the Thorn in His Side, There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Would I listen to it again: Yes
If you ever want to wallow in heartache, this is the album to listen to. And I mean that as a compliment. A total gut punch and so different from what Beck had done before. A masterpiece in misery. Favorites: The Golden Age, Guess I’m Doing Fine, Lost Cause, End of the Day Would I listen to it again: Yes
One of my favorite bands. Such a good album, just full of bangers. Favorites: Pretty much all of them but if I had to pick one, Vanishing Point Would I listen to it again: Yes
It's ok. A little repetitive after awhile. Favorite: Requiem Would I listen to it again: Probably not
Some of it is just too silly for me but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Favorites: How Could I Be Such a Fool, Wowie Zowie, Any Way the Wind Blows, Trouble Every Day Would I listen to it again: Probably not
Yes, it's more pop-oriented EDM but it's still EDM so annoying af.
Little too much Flavor Flav for me but I love Chuck D's voice. I could listen to him all day. A classic. Favorite: Bring the Noise Would I listen to it again: Yes
Highly influential record way ahead of its time. A 22-minute opening song is a lot but I still liked this (just not as much as The Man Machine). Favorite: Kotemenmelodie 2 Would I listen to it again: Yes
Nostalgia in record form. And a pretty great pop album to boot. Favorites: It's a Miracle, Miss Me Blind Would I listen to it again: Yes
A solid debut, with the opening one-two punch of "Once" and "Even Flow" kicking off the album in high style. Favorites: Once, Even Flow Would I listen to it again: Yes
I've never been a big Kate Bush fan so this album is hit and miss for me. Some songs are amazing, while others are just too weird. Favorite: Cloudbusting Would I listen to it again: Probably not
It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be (a low bar) but still boring af.
A scorcher of an album. Favorites: Hanging on the Telephone, One Way or Another, Will Anything Happen Would I listen to it again: Yes
I have questions. Why are the songs so long? How can anyone listen to this and not fall asleep? Why did it take so many people to make music this boring? Did the video for "Up With People" give anyone else nightmares?
Too much Steely Dan.
Ella has a voice for the ages and the Gershwin songbook is impeccable. Putting them together produces something pretty sublime but 3 hours of it is still a little much.
It can't be overstated how incredibly influential Gary Numan is. This album is a masterpiece of synthpop. Easy five stars. Favorites: Metal, M.E., Tracks Would I listen to it again: Yes
My biggest takeaway so far from doing this is how much I've ended up liking Bob Dylan. My fourth one and another solid record. Favorites: Rainy Day Women #12 & 35, Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again, Absolutely Sweet Marie Would I listen to it again: Yes
To quote the best song on the album, "It's alright."
As someone who is only familiar with FGTH from their hits, this album was a nice surprise. The covers were better than I was expecting and the originals are damn good. A pretty impressive debut. Favorites: Welcome to the Pleasuredome, Born to Run, Wish Would I listen to it again: Yes
I usually don't like this kind of '90s lo-fi bullshit and this was no exception. A couple of ok songs (As We Go Up, We Go Down, Motor Away) but overall annoying to listen to. And the longer I listened, the more it annoyed me. Sorry, GBV. I don't think I'll be listening to your other 156 albums.
An enjoyable listen. Favorite: The Big Country Would I listen to it again: Yes
There's some nice guitar work on this album, but my god, does her voice grate after awhile. It was harder to listen to the longer it went on.
A straight-up masterpiece.
This album would get 5 stars for "A Forest" alone but luckily the rest of it is pretty great too. Favorites: A Forest (obv), Seventeen Seconds Would I listen to it again: Yes
Prog rock is the worst.
I love 80s music, especially synth pop, but overall this was not good. There were parts here and there I liked (the opening of "Skipping" for example) but those were few and far between. The singing, in particular, was especially bad. Not recommended.
Cacophony for cacophony's sake.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
When I lived in Orlando in the early 90s, fiREHOSE had a show scheduled in town. The local paper did a feature on it but instead of fiREHOSE (the band actually performing), the article was about FireHouse (the hair band famous for the song "Love of a Lifetime"). It was hilarious so now every time I see fiREHOSE, I think of that and chuckle. Anyway, this album slaps.
