BANGER after BANGER. Holy hell this is one of the best opening runs of songs I’ve heard in maybe ever. This album would go nuts even in today’s landscape.

Was surprised how much of this I’ve heard, or heard sampled before.
Favorite track: Kathy’s Waltz

5/5
I get it. Radiohead is the way.
Favorite track: Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Saved songs: Nude, Weird Fishes / Arpeggi, All I Need, Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Metallica
2/5
Meh. Nothing special here. I could understand it feeling a little more cutting edge at the time but I think this is pretty generic and bland as metal goes.
Favorite track: N/A
Saved songs: Nothing Else Matters
Sufjan Stevens
4/5
This was definitely more of an experience, I feel it’s definitely intended to be listened to as a complete album. I don’t exactly love sufjan’s whole style but I do think it’s fun to hear some more experimental sounds juxtaposed against some fairly standard folk aspects.
Favorite song: The Seer’s Tower
Saved songs: Decatur, Chicago, Man of Metropolis, Night Zombies, Casimir Pulaski Day, The Seer’s Tower
3/5
Maybe the most “made for portable cd player” album ever. Feels like a product of its time but also feels like it inspired a lot of the women of today in the rock/punk space. Didn’t love it but I respect it.
Favorite Song: this mess we’re in

Idk. Maybe I just didn’t get it. I also didn’t feel great yesterday and this was a little overstimulating so maybe that impacted me. Might listen again!
Favorite track: Venus in Furs
Peter Gabriel
4/5
Dad rock royalty. This is like the pinnacle. Some experimental stuff here but a pleasant enough sound that I feel like it could work for anyone.
Favorite track: Modern Love
Jane's Addiction

DNF this was hot garbage. Absolutely hated it. Been Caught Stealing was okay. Everything else is complete ass. They’re kind of like if turnstile was absolute dogshit.
Portishead
3/5
Vibey. Wouldn’t throw it on for myself really but I like it as like a backing track or sound track if you’re gaming or something
Sade
4/5
Vibes are HIGH. Smooth Operator is all time. This is really my first time hearing Sade but I feel like I’m a noir detective in a smoky night club tailing a lead and that feeling is always good.
Deep Purple
5/5
This just further solidifies my opinion that Metallica sucks. This is fuckin metal. These guys absolutely shred I can’t believe they only get credit for smoke on the water. New deep purple stan has arrived.
Jeru The Damaja

Sure. Give or take. Have basically zero opinion about this one.

Elvis Costello

Stevie Wonder
4/5
Damn I really wish I could give this a 5. Incredible album through the middle to the end, but the first couple of tracks just throw it down a peg for me personally. Excellent stuff here though. This is my first sit down with a full Stevie album and I’m excited to get to Songs in the Key of Life. He’s truly a master at work.

Never heard of this guy but he rocks. Big fan. Huge reason why I’m doing this
Joy Division

Buddy Holly & The Crickets
2/5

Tim Buckley

The Pogues

Music’s okay at best, voice sucks and the mix is garbage. No thanks.
The Smiths
4/5
The Smiths are the perfect amount of British. Good band. 4 stars.
The Flaming Lips
4/5
Ice Cube
1/5
This is so bad. Like embarrassingly bad. It just sucks in every aspect. I didn’t enjoy a single moment of this. I like NWA and I’ve heard ice cube songs that I liked but this is trash
Red Snapper
3/5
Damn this project the industrial house stuff is starting to work on me.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
The Rolling Stones
3/5
I definitely believe that this had its time and was very important in its day. It still feels like important listening. I just think we’ve largely outgrown this sound, but that’s a good thing! Progression is good. We can still respect the history.
Hawkwind
1/5
DNF. No thanks. I’m so over the psych rock.
The White Stripes

This was a fun Friday album. I very much dig this vibe, giving big “mall chain that’s not open anymore y2k commercial” vibes
Black Sabbath

This is so awesome. I wasn’t intending on listening to the full two hours but it’s so compelling. Really skillful playing but also just hearing the joy and the banter between musicians and talks about what inspired them was really special. I loved it.
Kraftwerk
2/5
Please stop sending me albums that sound like the future episode of SpongeBob
Leonard Cohen
4/5
Such a wild era of songwriting. Cohen is up there with the best
Eagles
3/5
Elvis Costello
2/5
How much Elvis Costello can one man endure? That’s the question that the authors of this project set out to answer.
The answer is like, one and a half MAX
Queens Of The Stone Age
4/5
This is sick. It gets a bit redundant by the end, but that guitar tone is GLORIOUS. Really dig this a lot, excellent use of British dudes.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
3/5
Pearl Jam
3/5
This is great for sure but the main keeper songs are all the ones I’ve already heard a million times. Was hoping to discover some new to me songs that I would enjoy more. Still fw their vibe heavy it just didn’t blow me away.
R.E.M.

Sorry I’m two weeks behind at this point and I am on record as a The Smiths Enjoyer but fuck this guy and this dumb album im out after the first two songs
Tom Waits
2/5
One of the albums of all time
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
Hendrix is rock n’ roll. It is an extension of him. He just seems to understand it on a deeper level than most artists. We should be grateful for the short time we got with him.
The Smashing Pumpkins
3/5
Gotta respect a band who is inspired by every single genre of music they’ve ever heard
Love
3/5
I just do not like psych rock but this is pretty good as far as the genre goes. It’s fine!
Black Sabbath
5/5
From the first second, this is definitely my favorite metal album I’ve ever heard. I’ve always enjoyed the descendants of metal more than metal itself. This album is changing that for me. I never realized how talented ozzy really is. And the tones on here man. All that from cranking a Marshall stack. RIP Ozzy. Thank you for everything you did for music.
Maybe the most inoffensive band of all time, which makes their assault on our iTunes libraries all the more confusing
Talking Heads
2/5
No. Nope. No thank you.
Dolly Parton
3/5
Billie Holiday
4/5
Lana Del Rey
4/5
Can a white girl just be a little bit sad
Sepultura
5/5
Man… maybe I didn’t get it the first time (Arise), but these mfs are throwing DOWN. This is a straightup hardcore record. There’s really not a miss on here. I think the tie ins to the heritage of Brazilian music does wonders for them. This feels like an embrace of identity. And it’s metal as fuck. I love this band
The Rolling Stones
3/5
I guess when your album is sandwiched between two undeniable classics you can put shittier Bob Dylan songs in the middle
Talking Heads
2/5
The line between God Tier Revelatory New Wave and complete dogshit is RAZOR thin. Talking Heads have yet to make the cut
The Undertones
3/5
Beach rock!! I feel like this album could teach me to surf. I like it.
The Monkees
2/5
Thanks. I hate it.
Dexys Midnight Runners
3/5
Bruce Springsteen
5/5
Incredible. We sorely miss real American Folk song writers. What an era this was for modern music. This is one of those things that I’m so glad was created, and exists. Truly lucky to have this.
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
An exploration of black exploitation in America and the crushing, overwhelming pressure that America applies to the black soul. As poignant 10 years on as it was upon release. Maybe one day it won’t seem so relevant.
Rush

AC/DC

Can’t prove it’s AI slop but the genre is definitely AI slop. Who the fuck makes this list. How did I just listen to 3 5-star albums in a row last week and then get this bullshit that literally no one needs to ever listen to.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Count Basie & His Orchestra
4/5
Instrumental may not be my thing but this is great!! Really fun big band stuff, I can appreciate it in small doses like this album.
Frank Sinatra

Maybe the most mid band of all time. But they kind of own it.
Rod Stewart
3/5

2. Is Jazz always this horny?
Iggy Pop
4/5
The Temptations
3/5
Faust
1/5
Boring and German. Yuck
SZA
4/5
I’ve loved this album since it released, it was nice to have a reason to revisit it!
On a different note, there’s a noticeable shift in tone of reviews when I see a black artist on this website, especially black women. Reviews with little critical value other than “trash” “not for me” “sings about _____ too much”. It’s discouraging.
If I can listen to some Irish folk album or ANOTHER Elvis Costello album, you can spend 40 minutes with a black person and give a real, critical review on their work. This project is supposed to be about broadening horizons, not cowering at the sight or sound of a person who isn’t like you.
The Flying Burrito Brothers
3/5
Jimi Hendrix
4/5
Maximum shreddage. Sex appeal like you wouldn’t believe. God I love Hendrix
Dusty Springfield
4/5
Thundercat
2/5
I’m all for experimenting but I probably won’t listen to this ever again
The Mamas & The Papas
3/5
This still feels pretty creative and not overly dated. This probably blew peoples minds when it came out.
The Fall
3/5
I will take this over the talking heads any day. Argue with your mom
Bruce Springsteen
4/5
This feels like a Polaroid of a time that’s passed us by. Everything in this album is a snapshot of America as it were. Bruce does such an incredible job of capturing history in the moment. Much like I felt with Nebraska he was setting a very intentional scene, and doing it well. Long live the boss.
Massive Attack
4/5
I’m digging this a lot!! Maybe I’m slowly becoming open to more dance/electronica music. This was great
The White Stripes
4/5
This experiment has shown me a lot and one of the things is that I really like Jack White and The White Stripes
Marvin Gaye
5/5
Idk man, these soul artists in the 60s and 70s just feel like they understand music on a different level. This album feels surgically perfect but still human. It’s kind of incredible.
Doves
2/5
Elvis Presley
2/5
Kinda boring Elvis! I feel like you can do better!
Led Zeppelin
4/5
Gang Starr
3/5
I don’t know that it will be super memorable for me, but I appreciate hearing new hip hop I haven’t heard before. I’ll take it over another 50s psych rock Zappa experiment.
Traffic
3/5
Jane's Addiction
3/5
I think I just don’t really like this band but man “Jane Says” is such a great song
Coldplay
4/5
If you can listen to this without any preconceived notions of who or what Coldplay is right now, today, then this album is awesome. Just enjoy it.
Janelle Monáe
3/5
I will probably never listen to this again but it’s for sure creative and I appreciate the originality
Harry Nilsson
3/5
The Clash
3/5
The Kinks

The best song is the one that’s 22 seconds. But sure let’s listen to the same loop for 6 minutes. I swear house music has to be the most pretentious art form
Tears For Fears
4/5
The Undertones
3/5
My favorite British punk pop surf rockabilly shoegaze garage band, and there are many!
The Killers
5/5
I’m realizing as I grow and attempt to create things for me, The Killers are a massive influence on me. One of the most influential bands of my teens, and I’m so glad their work holds up. This is a stone cold classic. Zero skips, I’d listen to it every day of my life
Lynyrd Skynyrd
4/5
These guys absolutely have shit views and opinions but man southern rock absolutely rips

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
4/5
I hated this until I loved it. Idk. Weird experience but it actually does feel like an album I needed to hear before I die
Genesis
3/5
Feels big and epic but decidedly not for me. The only song I really enjoyed was “it”. These prog bands were doing A LOT. I like Peter Gabriel solo stuff tho!
Moby Grape

Her name is Carole King because she is the King of white women. Why did this go SO hard
Jimmy Smith
5/5
Best Jazz album on the list so far.
Talking Heads
4/5
Go figure the lowest rated talking heads album on this list is the one I somewhat enjoyed. Maybe I need to revisit the others!
XTC
4/5
This was at least interesting! I was pretty captivated by the lyrical content and the orchestration. I don’t know how many times I will revisit it, but in an endless wave of Brit pop and new wave stuff this one stands out.
