Didn't hate it though the album cover didn't help. This is heavy metal for Broadway and sounds like Jack Black's main inspiration. Won't listen again but I get it.
Never heard of them before. Sounded actually a little more modern. Liked it more than I thought, their voice in some of the songs were a bit painful.
At first I thought I liked this but the songs took quite a turn towards the end of the album. Not a big fan of the lead vocals here and some of the creative instrumentals.
I wanted to like this but I just can’t. Too bad her later single ‘why can’t I’ wasn’t on this album!
Def prefer their other album over this debut one.
I liked it more than I thought but don't need to listen to this again. Definitely sensing some Florence and the Machine inspiration here.
the hits hit and the others aren't for me.
hard to rate fairly without the nostalgia bias. easy listening!
Oof. I didn't realize I wasn't a big fan of the White Album. Controversial, I'm sure, but I much prefer other Beatles albums.
I really tried to like and listen to this but it's just so vulgar and unpleasant. Can't do it.
not for me which has sorely disappointed my husband ha.
this is excellent. I didn't know I liked Black Sabbath.
Wow this is sleepy. I enjoyed it more in the morning vs the afternoon but I don't need to listen to this again.
it wasn't awful, but it wasn't good.
Not normally a fan of that 80s sound, but this was good. I also never realized truly how much Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel sounded alike. Makes a lot of sense why he ultimately took over as lead for genesis.
probably the only green day album I don't mind listening to.
Some albums I don't like but understand why they are on this list; but this one I don't like and don't understand why it's here. Why is it here? Even the little wikipedia blurb can't give us a good reason or one at all.
I used to listen to a bit more Dwight when I was little thanks to my parents; compared to the other 80s/90s country singers we listened to, I really didn't like Dwight. Definitely not a kid friendly sound and that distaste has really stuck with me other than a couple of his songs (none of which are on this album). Though listening to this in its entirety and being a bit more removed from old country these days, it brought back a bit of nostalgia and I do seem to appreciate his voice and the style of his music. I don't think I'll go back to this and listen but I am glad I heard it through.
I guess I like older Elvis enough!
A greatest hits feels like cheating but also I am pretty grateful I didn't have to listen to more of these guys just to hear the 'hits'. I little too noisy for me but maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I were on a run.
Definitely biased by nostalgia. A huge Chris Cornell fan and used to listen to this + Audioslave whilst studying for college chemistry classes which somehow helped me understand chemistry better. I think I prefer Chris' Audioslave phase better but this still hits.
Was excited to hear the rest of these songs since I like their hit but was not impressed. Kept looking for skip forward to see if the next one would satisfy and it just didn't.
Hm didn't hate this. I don't think I'd listen to it again but I was expecting something very different from the reviews.
pleasant enough to listen to while working but nothing notable in here. Sounds a lot like others around this time.
I guess I kind of like 70s/80s british heavy metal. Heavy metal before the real heavy metal. Really reminds me of what heavy metal on broadway would sound like. I don't think I'll listen again but am happy to know where the "Breaking the Law" song comes from.
wow what a whirlwind of emotions I felt during this. For the first half, I hated how much I liked it, then in the middle I really didn't like it, it truly bothered my ears, but by the end, I was back to enjoying it (begrudgingly). I don't know why this sits on this list, I guess I continue to feel conflicted with it. 2.5 rounded up.
oof I just can't take this.
The first have sure was fun and groovy but the second half was a bit more annoying to me.
It got better as the songs went on but this is super bland other than their popular song.
Super excited that this list is getting me to listen to full albums from the likes of Led Zeppelin, etc. I've always wanted to spend more time understanding bands like this - not just the popular hits I know. Enjoyable...I get it.
oof I generally like country music but this is painful.
Interesting, when Steely Dan comes on the radio I am pretty quick to change it but listening to them in a full album format, it was hard not to enjoy and beebop around while working.
I don't dislike it but I also don't really like it? His voice really starts to annoy me. But can't help but jam to psycho killer.
I was bracing for what I thought a 70s Irish heavy metal/ rock band would sound like and instead was pleasantly surprised. Super fun - really liked the energy and WHO KNEW this is who sang The Boys are Back in Town.
I generally don't think I like Pearl Jam. At least not hearing the same 3 popular songs on the radio but man listening to this as intended - it's so good. Sounds like I need to hear the remastered version to appreciate it even more. I can still skip Jeremy though. Eddie's voice can overstay its welcome sometimes.
whew I think I can appreciate the talent here but I would rather someone just tell me about it. Somehow I made it through the entire album, but I would have preferred to listen to something else for sure.
My two young children play the demo music on their keyboard + theses awful noises on some 'kid DJ kit'. This sounded frighteningly similar to their 'concerts' that I am asked to attend. No thanks.
Super pleasant and beautiful music but man what a tragic ending for his sad soul.
Usually a big Joni Mitchell fan and I still do love her voice but this album is not for me.
When I listen to Neil Young on the radio I am generally annoyed and change the song but somehow listening to his full albums I have a different reaction and enjoy him a bit more. Can't quite explain why but here we are.
Perhaps I am not musically inclined enough to truly appreciate the foundations this group and this album laid but I'll believe the masses.
I could listen to this often. Maybe my preferred 80s style music!
This album came out during my primitive listening years and just before I burned all kinds of music onto CDs yet somehow Coldplay songs were never part of my burned CD focus. Why? I can't figure it out, they sound like a lot of the other music of that time and I liked my fair share of 'overrated' bands. The hit songs are good but maybe because I know them and they're easy listening? The other songs are ignorable and not memorable. Ugh this album perplexes me. I do like yellow.
Oof I love Tom Petty so much and also am pretty biased to Gainesville (go gators) but I think I normally stick to listening to greatest hits playlists. The non hits on this album didn't do much for me. All that being said, it gets a 4 because I wouldn't be mad if his albums were all I had to get to the hits.
At first I liked this a lot more than I though but towards the end I found myself clicking 'next' to move through the songs to get to the end.
Blech those vocals were tough. Couldn't turn down the volume low enough to stop bothering my ears. Not my thing.
I like Bob Dylan more than I think. Easy listening while I worked and very useful for blocking out annoying workplace noise :). Reminds me of the texas country I used to listen to.
Generally not a huge Britpop fan but was surprised to recognize a song "Alright". Sometimes I was annoyed through this and sometimes it was ok...
eh just not for me, don't even really enjoy the songs I know.
I liked it better than I thought I would but honestly still pretty forgettable. I probably would have really liked it in my teenage years if I had known of them.
super conflicted on this. generally like Beck but I think it's just the hits I like. AH I can't decide.
I get it but I just get bored listening to this. I think it would be more fun to have actually been live to enjoy it!
It's just too noisy for my little ears. Though I must say I was incredibly productive at work while these guys were yelling at me.
Not normally a fan of this genre of music - but strangely I liked this. Still a little boring to me though.
Enjoyed this more than the other 23 Buckley family albums on this list.
I can't. I won't. Something about these songs give me the creeps.
it just hurts my ears so much. Maybe I can only take one metallica song per day.
Also - I think I went to a Metallica concert in college. Did I? Shouldn't I remember such a noisy experience? I guess we'll never know because things weren't documented back then. This right here really highlights how I feel. I'll just take the popular songs and call it a day.
Had to make sure I didn't accidentally click on The Cars greatest hits. Apparently they pushed so many singles out of this album. Normally not a fan of this 80s sound but can't help but enjoy this.
This started strong but quickly started to make me feel very uncomfortable. I appreciate Prince's sound and the fun songs but not enough to listen again.
too many The Smith's albums for me and way too close together. That voice I just can't. Should be on some eery 80s halloween movie.
Wow wow. I have a friend who likes this stuff and I just cannot understand why. I really tried to stay optimistic but when I can't turn the volume down low enough without muting it - that's a 1 star sign. Perhaps not listening with headphones is a better strategy. I fear this music went right into my bloodstream.
Almost want to bump it up to a 2 star because reading the reviews while listening was such a treat. But alas, that wouldn't help my stats.
This sounds like a bunch of monsters playing music with things they found in a junkyard. Must be why they are named this and why they chose this particular album art. I couldn't finish it.
what a fun discovery. These guys are fun. Right up my alley.
The neatest thing to come out of this music adventure is finding out that I really love 70s/80s Heavy Metal. Who knew!?
I spent the first couple songs thinking I was listening to the band that delivered us "Peaches" and then realized that 1) the year was 68 2) this is an equally stupidly named band just much earlier. Not sure I need to listen to a full album of either of these patriotic groups. Def don't need this one. I can stretch to see how cool and psychedelic their songs were/are but to my sensitive ears it's just noise. Definitely didn't help me focus at work.
Oof, not a fan of the founding or modern punk rock.
easy to work to music but not really my preferred sound.
One of these songs at a time is fine but all of them in a row really started to hurt my ears. Not for me.
I listened to this but I didn't HEAR it...you know what I mean?
I guess I like Indie Pop. Back in the day these guys would come up on my Pandora playlists and I really enjoyed them. Excellent background music to use to focus. I think I'll like their other album stuff and though I like them, I am not sure this is something you need to listen to before you die.
they tried to trick me at first but this is not good.
wow that entire album put a big smile on my face. listening to all the chatter and happiness amongst Johnny and crowd - amazing. What a treat that they recorded this and released it.
I do like Bob Dylan, his voice doesn't annoy me as much as genpop. I appreciate the history behind it all, too. I don't want to listen to him all day but I can take an album and I can even enjoy it!
I can't do any more cohen, please don't make me. This guy would benefit from a greatest hits album on here instead. Perhaps if I truly appreciated the art of poem writing and song chanting I could enjoy this but I don't. I am also just not a sad enough person for this stuff.
If I were a indie/punk rock singer from the 90s I think this is what I would sound like (I am far from a good singer). All that said, this wasn't as annoying as I assumed it would be from the album art. I don't need to listen again but I didn't need to turn the volume down too much and that's a key metric in my evaluations.
all this time i thought this was someone related to Cat Stevens...or even Cat Stevens himself? Proven very wrong and also very much enjoyed this!
I don't know. I am nuetral. It's hard to see a song that is 20min long and essentially just ping pongs around. It doesn't sound bad but I am just into it. I bet if I were at a swanky bar with an ice cold cocktail, I'd be really into this - live. It's not bad working background but I still somehow got bored. Not a knock on Mr Mile Davis but perhaps I am not cool enough to appreciate it all.
I listened to this entire album, came back the next day and couldn't remember a single thing about it so I re-listened and ALMOST missed actually hearing it again. It's fine but truly and literally forgettable.
70s punk is better than current punk but that doesn't necessarily mean it's good.
reading about the history and entanglements of the seattle grunge world is better than listening to most of it. It's a fun rabbit hole to go down.
Oof they were a big fan of that record scratching sound / 'technique', huh? If I could equate it to what set of men I found attractive in my high school days - the ones that liked Linkin Park - I was not a fan, I am taken back to dirty, old smelly hoodies & unwashed hair. I think I preferred the bad boy appeal of the dudes that listened to Limp Bizkit and slipknot ha.
Liked this much better than the Bitches Brew I was dealt a week ago.
Sure did enjoy this. Where is my mojito? Perhaps my time living in Miami has given me a profound appreciation for latin / Caribbean music. Still can't dance to this but love to listen. Would like to be at the Ball and Chain in Miami listening to this LIVE.
it's fine. The fun songs are fun but Brian Johnson's voice is so unique and not in a long form enjoyable way. An entire album of that is not ideal. I'll take AC/DC songs one at a time.
