Didn't hate it though the album cover didn't help. This is heavy metal for Broadway and sounds like Jack Black's main inspiration. Won't listen again but I get it.
Never heard of them before. Sounded actually a little more modern. Liked it more than I thought, their voice in some of the songs were a bit painful.
At first I thought I liked this but the songs took quite a turn towards the end of the album. Not a big fan of the lead vocals here and some of the creative instrumentals.
I wanted to like this but I just can’t. Too bad her later single ‘why can’t I’ wasn’t on this album!
no.
Def prefer their other album over this debut one.
I liked it more than I thought but don't need to listen to this again. Definitely sensing some Florence and the Machine inspiration here.
the hits hit and the others aren't for me.
hard to rate fairly without the nostalgia bias. easy listening!
Oof. I didn't realize I wasn't a big fan of the White Album. Controversial, I'm sure, but I much prefer other Beatles albums.
I really tried to like and listen to this but it's just so vulgar and unpleasant. Can't do it.
not for me which has sorely disappointed my husband ha.
this is excellent. I didn't know I liked Black Sabbath.
Wow this is sleepy. I enjoyed it more in the morning vs the afternoon but I don't need to listen to this again.
it wasn't awful, but it wasn't good.
Not normally a fan of that 80s sound, but this was good. I also never realized truly how much Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel sounded alike. Makes a lot of sense why he ultimately took over as lead for genesis.
probably the only green day album I don't mind listening to.
not for me.
Some albums I don't like but understand why they are on this list; but this one I don't like and don't understand why it's here. Why is it here? Even the little wikipedia blurb can't give us a good reason or one at all.
I used to listen to a bit more Dwight when I was little thanks to my parents; compared to the other 80s/90s country singers we listened to, I really didn't like Dwight. Definitely not a kid friendly sound and that distaste has really stuck with me other than a couple of his songs (none of which are on this album). Though listening to this in its entirety and being a bit more removed from old country these days, it brought back a bit of nostalgia and I do seem to appreciate his voice and the style of his music. I don't think I'll go back to this and listen but I am glad I heard it through.
I guess I like older Elvis enough!
A greatest hits feels like cheating but also I am pretty grateful I didn't have to listen to more of these guys just to hear the 'hits'. I little too noisy for me but maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I were on a run.
Definitely biased by nostalgia. A huge Chris Cornell fan and used to listen to this + Audioslave whilst studying for college chemistry classes which somehow helped me understand chemistry better. I think I prefer Chris' Audioslave phase better but this still hits.
not my kind of sound.
did not listen
Was excited to hear the rest of these songs since I like their hit but was not impressed. Kept looking for skip forward to see if the next one would satisfy and it just didn't.
Hm didn't hate this. I don't think I'd listen to it again but I was expecting something very different from the reviews.
pleasant enough to listen to while working but nothing notable in here. Sounds a lot like others around this time.
I guess I kind of like 70s/80s british heavy metal. Heavy metal before the real heavy metal. Really reminds me of what heavy metal on broadway would sound like. I don't think I'll listen again but am happy to know where the "Breaking the Law" song comes from.
wow what a whirlwind of emotions I felt during this. For the first half, I hated how much I liked it, then in the middle I really didn't like it, it truly bothered my ears, but by the end, I was back to enjoying it (begrudgingly). I don't know why this sits on this list, I guess I continue to feel conflicted with it. 2.5 rounded up.
oof I just can't take this.
The first have sure was fun and groovy but the second half was a bit more annoying to me.
It got better as the songs went on but this is super bland other than their popular song.
Super excited that this list is getting me to listen to full albums from the likes of Led Zeppelin, etc. I've always wanted to spend more time understanding bands like this - not just the popular hits I know. Enjoyable...I get it.
oof I generally like country music but this is painful.
Interesting, when Steely Dan comes on the radio I am pretty quick to change it but listening to them in a full album format, it was hard not to enjoy and beebop around while working.
I don't dislike it but I also don't really like it? His voice really starts to annoy me. But can't help but jam to psycho killer.
I was bracing for what I thought a 70s Irish heavy metal/ rock band would sound like and instead was pleasantly surprised. Super fun - really liked the energy and WHO KNEW this is who sang The Boys are Back in Town.
I generally don't think I like Pearl Jam. At least not hearing the same 3 popular songs on the radio but man listening to this as intended - it's so good. Sounds like I need to hear the remastered version to appreciate it even more. I can still skip Jeremy though. Eddie's voice can overstay its welcome sometimes.
whew I think I can appreciate the talent here but I would rather someone just tell me about it. Somehow I made it through the entire album, but I would have preferred to listen to something else for sure.
My two young children play the demo music on their keyboard + theses awful noises on some 'kid DJ kit'. This sounded frighteningly similar to their 'concerts' that I am asked to attend. No thanks.
Super pleasant and beautiful music but man what a tragic ending for his sad soul.
Usually a big Joni Mitchell fan and I still do love her voice but this album is not for me.
When I listen to Neil Young on the radio I am generally annoyed and change the song but somehow listening to his full albums I have a different reaction and enjoy him a bit more. Can't quite explain why but here we are.
Perhaps I am not musically inclined enough to truly appreciate the foundations this group and this album laid but I'll believe the masses.
I could listen to this often. Maybe my preferred 80s style music!
This album came out during my primitive listening years and just before I burned all kinds of music onto CDs yet somehow Coldplay songs were never part of my burned CD focus. Why? I can't figure it out, they sound like a lot of the other music of that time and I liked my fair share of 'overrated' bands. The hit songs are good but maybe because I know them and they're easy listening? The other songs are ignorable and not memorable. Ugh this album perplexes me. I do like yellow.
Oof I love Tom Petty so much and also am pretty biased to Gainesville (go gators) but I think I normally stick to listening to greatest hits playlists. The non hits on this album didn't do much for me. All that being said, it gets a 4 because I wouldn't be mad if his albums were all I had to get to the hits.
At first I liked this a lot more than I though but towards the end I found myself clicking 'next' to move through the songs to get to the end.
Blech those vocals were tough. Couldn't turn down the volume low enough to stop bothering my ears. Not my thing.
