The Alex Turner + orchestral arrangements combo works well occasionally, but most often the word that better describes this album is merely "competent"
I regret not giving the other Def Leppard album on this list a lower score
the more melodic/layered tracks, some of which are definitely highlights, work better than the more traditional hip-hop ones, probably because neither kanye’s lyrics nor his flow are particularly interesting. it’s a bit too long and uneven for its own good, but I do get what the fuss is about.
Not a big country guy but I do feel like it's an overhated genre, this site included.

I love most of the more avant-gardy songs in this (Venus In Furs, All Tomorrow's Parties, The Black Angel's Death Song), EXCEPT European Son. It feels like a missed opportunity.

1001 albums to pick, entire globe to pick from, entries with repeating artists allowed, and you still can’t help but put multiple cock rock albums in?
While Zappa’s talent for composition shines a bit more than on Freak Out!, the album still relies too heavily on mostly-played-straight “parodies” of boring 60s song tropes accompanied by Zappa’s cynical but mostly witless lyrics that make him look more like an annoying child than the intellectual satirist he sees himself as. With an odd musical detour here and there to keep the “experimental” label Freak Out! got by throwing shit at the wall for its last couple of songs. Hot Rats this is not.
This is not exceptional or interesting in any way, not even how uninsteresting and unexceptional it is. Why is it here?
The thing about ugly aesthetics in art, particularly in art that requires audience engagement over a period of time like music, is that you need some kind of anchor to keep the audience’s attention while still conveying whatever feeling you were trying to. There are few things motivating me to try to care about what’s going on in the music here, so “bad on pupose” becomes just “bad”.
Having a couple of good tracks doesn't help much when they have to carry 13 others. The lyrical whiplash from Bootylicious to Nasty Girl was so wild I had to go check the lyrics for all songs afterwards to try to glimpse some semblance of a coherent world view (I failed)

Flea and Frusciante are good enough musicians that not even Kiedis can fully drag them down by himself… unfortunately he’s getting help from some of the shittiest mixing known to mankind
