Every song is beautiful and made with love. "Bluebird Wine," "Boulder to Birmingham," and "Queen of the Silver Dollar" are my stand out picks. While there are a lot of covers on this album, it doesn't take away from Emmylou Harris' amazing vocals, which are definitely why everyone should listen to this album.
I needed to warm up to this album before I started to love it. The first 4 tracks came and went unceremoniously. Then "Moral Kiosk" changed it all. I finally heard what I should have been hearing all along. After that song, pretty much every song on the album is just really good. Along with "Moral Kiosk," I will also choose "Catapult," and "We Walk" as standouts. I went back to listen to "Radio Free Europe" because it's the most popular song on the album and although I had a newfound appreciation for it, it still was not a favorite of mine. Overall, a really good album that I would absolutely come back to.
I was excited when I saw this cover come up. Easily recognizable and highly regarded. I just am not a huge fan. The lyrics were not great in my opinion and sometimes I feel like I would have had a better experience if the entire album was instrumental. Don't get me wrong, some songs are beautiful. "Candle In the Wind" is an amazing song throughout. The opening instrumental of "Funeral for a Friend" is so good. "Grey Seal" and "Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock'n' Roll)" and "Social Disease" are also standouts. Sadly, I just find myself getting bored halfway through a lot of these songs. The best songs are really good and I would come back to. The worst ones, honestly I wouldn't skip, but I don't see myself listening to the entire album again. A normal 10 song album or shorter version of many songs might land at a 4 or a 5, but as it is, it's just too long and doesn't use the time how I would want it to.
Interesting.
There is a wide use of instruments. All the songs sound amazing. I was not blown away by any song, but very much appreciated each of them. I would probably listen to any of these songs again and possibly the whole album. "Take It as It Comes" was surprisingly my favorite of the album. It's a simple track, but does a lot in the 2:15. "Light My Fire" was a good catchy tune with a strong instrumental in the middle. Jim Morrison is a very strong vocalist.
How have I never heard of this band or album before? I absolutely love this album.
Standouts? All of them. There is not one song on this album that I wouldn't listen to again. Sure, there's only 8 songs, but 5 of them are over 5 minutes and 1 is over 10. In past reviews, I have had a problem with songs that are longer than they can keep me entertained. That is not a problem with this album.
I have to give a special mention to "Torn Curtain." Just an amazing album closer and possibly my favorite from the album
What can I say? It's Jazz. I like it. I don't think I'd ever come back to this album for fun. Maybe if I was doing a boring task and didn't want to get distracted, but wanted to be entertained. This is perfect for that. I've realized that Jazz is about getting into the moment. Becoming the music. Nothing groundbreaking here. Just good tunes for good times
Early on, I was considering a 1. My mind has never been changed so much. Most songs are so fun and happy. "A Pair of Brown Eyes" and "Sally Maclennane" were the songs that made me question my final rating. From there, the songs were mostly great. "A Pistol for Paddy Garcia" is an amazing instrumental track. Finally, "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" is such a heartbreaking song. It may seem out of place on an album full of songs about drinking, but I am glad this song is here. All unmentioned songs are fine at least. Only song I could put as worse than fine is "The Old Main Drag." At points in this album, I seriously considered every single ranking.
I would totally listen to one song from this album and be happy. 8 back to back though? Never again. It's cliche after cliche with not much character. All songs are fine, just none of them stand out. "Rock Steady" is probably my favorite. I could raise it up a star in the future maybe.
First time hearing Joni Mitchell and I'm delighted. This album was poetic and fun. I don't relate much to these songs, but they are good to listen to. Her voice is amazing. It sometimes seems like she is just telling a story with some music in the background, though.
This is my first Bowie album. I expected more. I'm looking forward to hearing Bowie's other albums, but if they are like this one, they will be perfectly fine. My perception of Bowie before this was not "perfectly fine," though. Tracks 4 and 5 were the best. None of the tracks were bad. I'd listen to each one again. I hope I like the other Bowie albums more, but as it stands, this one is respectable.
I was VERY pleasantly surprised by this album. I had never heard of this group before, but I liked each and every song. First, "Can You Forgive Her?" Is such a banger. The first taste of this album is truly the best you'll get here. It did leave me disappointed that no other song could reach that high, but other songs, like "Dreaming of the Queen" and "Young Offender" were also really good. At points, I felt like the music and vocals didn't belong on the same track, but both are still good. The positives outweigh the negatives here.
What?
I saw on Wikipedia that "Hero" inspired the Sex Pistols. Ok, that's cool I like their music. I can hear how it inspired them, but my gosh that song is not good. I don't care that the vocals weren't traditionally good, but I do care that it's not even singing and he's just moaning random things in my ear. "Leb' wohl" is the worst offender of this. Terrible song. Boring and moany. "After Eight" is ok I guess. Not great lyrically, but it doesn't have to be. The instrumental is boring though. Also "Seeland" is boring. "E-Musik" is less boring but too long and therefore gets boring near the end. Only the opener "ISI" is anything better than bad or ok. This track was good. I'd listen again. As for most everything else, I will gladly pass on a second listen.
I like the idea of this album. The first half is connected and tells a story. I don't know what that story is, but it exists. The second half strongly resembles the first, but it was allowed to be it's own thing. I definitely enjoyed the second half better. "Wake Up" got me to.. well, wake up after a fairly peaceful first half. "In the Backseat" is a great closer and very emotional. The best song for me was "Rebellion (Lies)." The second half saves this album for me, but I can't put it any higher than a 3. I could absolutely see this going up after listening to some of the songs again.
What are these other instruments doing in my Bongo album! MORE BONGOS
... Anyway. This album is just so fun. All tunes, covers or not, are all very familiar and easy to vibe to. I guess I really like bongos. Never before have I really listened to bongos in a serious manner, but it works. BONGOS
I would love to give this another chance. I really liked some of the songs and as the album went on it got better. They definitely experimented with this album and I respect it and enjoyed a lot of it. My biggest gripe is the vocals that are barely discernible. Maybe if this album was on YouTube Music or Spotify, it would sound better. There were things that I liked and things that I didn't like. Again, I would love to come back later and hopefully up my rating
So, I didn't save my review from yesterday. Unfortunate! Anyway, I couldn't finish the album yesterday as the album put me to sleep, but in mostly a good way. It's peaceful and definitely is something I'd listen to in between songs with heavy guitars and strong vocals.
It has some great songs, but honestly they all sound too similar. I like everything about every song though. Nothing bad about this album. Just there's also nothing in this album that makes me too excited. It's really solid and I hope to listen to these songs another time.
Alternative Rock comes in many forms and this is one of my favorites. The bands I listen to the most today absolutely were indirectly influenced by this band. I'm not the biggest fan of the vocals, but they absolutely work in this way. "Freak Scene" and "Let It Ride" are some amazing tracks and to end it all with "Don't" is vile in the best way. I can see why this album is rated quite low, but I do not agree one bit! Can't believe this is from the 80s
Those basslines though. Best part of the album. Singing is fine, drums are groovy. Lyrics are fun or whatever. Might have to listen to their other stuff after this. No song stands out, but all of them uplift the album. "The Chauffeur" was not a good way to end the album, though. Still, good music to vibe to
Only a little bit boring. I could listen to a few songs regularly, but a whole album of this isn't ideal. Not much to any of these songs and that works. I liked "Alameda" and "Between The Bars" the best. Fine album all around.
"Alright guys, we need a band name"
"The Who?"
"No, that's taken"
"The Fish"
"No, that's dumb"
"Hmmm.. The... The... The..."
"PERFECT"
I liked a lot about this, but didn't love much. "Only Dreaming Now" and The Wolf of Velvet Fortune" were my favorites. There are a lot of songs here that I wouldn't mind never hearing again, but nothing that I never want to hear again.
There aren't many lyrics, but what is there is meaningful and well put together. There is nothing here that I don't like. Every song, no matter how long, never gets dull. It's crazy that they can keep you intrigued for 13 minutes, but they do. This is my first Pink Floyd album on this list, but I am fairly familiar with their work, so an easy day today. Great album.
Very weird album. I love most things about this, but the lyrics are just too weird for my liking. Not weird in subject matter necessarily, but how they present it. I liked the opening track, "A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours" as well as "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me." I could absolutely see myself ignoring the lyrics and having a good time listening, but some songs just get downgraded by the lyrics. "Girlfriend in a Coma" and "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" are the worst offenders. Overall, I liked it and am excited to get their other albums in the future.
I hate saying bad things about albums that definitely had a lot of hard work that went into it, but this is just really boring in my opinion. I lost interest halfway through and it never brought me back. "Crystalised" is a really good song though. I'm glad i know it now. Everything else for the most part will be forgotten by tomorrow
A tale of two halves. After 3 minutes, I was waiting for it to be done. Those first two sections are, for lack of a better term, awful. I would never subject my ears to that again. But then we get to the last two tracks and it changes significantly. Those weren't just fine, they were genuinely amazing. The 18 minute section might just be my favorite. I have never ran into the problem before. Half the album is bad and the other half is great. What to do what to do. Well, you already know what I did, but I don't. I guess I'll find out tomorrow!
Just so good. I hadn't heard any song other than "Crawlin" and "In the End" but this album is filled cover to cover with playlist worthy songs for me. I don't know what more to say. I wasn't surprised, but glad my high expectations were exceeded.
I really don't know what to write for this review, I just did not like 1 second of this album
The album is funky. I like funky. I don't like murder or weed quite as much though. That's most of what this album is. I like the flow and rhythm, but can't get behind the lyrics. I wouldn't really listen again, but I can say I'm glad to have listened to it. It did overstay it's welcome, though.
Halfway through and IDK what to think yet. Not a 1, not a 5... not anywhere in the middle either really...
Wow, this album gets deep. But what isn't deep is John Prine's voice. I don't really like his voice all that much. Definitely takes away from some songs. I wanted to like this album more than I did. "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You into Heaven Anymore" is the standout I think. Other songs had their moments, but were just not good all the way through.
I liked a lot about this album. What I don't necessarily like is the mumbling and random noises, but it can work. I appreciate the story elements of all these songs. No standouts, really. Just a fine album with some fine songs
So, this is not what I expected. I guess you can't go into a Pink Floyd album you've never heard and expect to know what it sounds like. There's actually a lot here that I don't like. Weirdly placed instruments that clash, interesting vocal choices and strange lyrics. However, altogether, it works well somehow. From the beginning, Pink Floyd knew how to experiment and put together albums that are not similar to anything that's ever been made before, but still be enjoyable. I don't think I can choose any standouts here because they all fit into the same category of "interesting, I'd listen again probably." So yeah. This album is strange and shouldn't work, but it does and I'd listen again probably.
If I liked folk music, this might be my favorite album yet. Unfortunately, there's only so much folk music I can handle in one sitting. Most songs here are fine by themselves and aren't long at all. There's not much going on here either. Few lyrics, strong vocals and some light guitar playing. Also, all of these are just traditional folk songs or covers. So... the only new thing we're getting is the vocals. It's worth it honestly. I did struggle to get through to the end, though.
The novelty wore off too quickly. This really is a time capsule, though. It was interesting to hear a crowd of fans from 1962 vibing along with one of the best vocalists ever. I wouldn't necessarily listen again, but glad I experienced this album. OH and that band was really good too.
I already had gotten Rum Sodomy & The Lash, so this was a welcome surprise. This one isn't nearly as fun as the last one. Just kind of boring at times. Still, it was solid. The title track as well as "Fiesta" were really good. Beyond that, they were fine. Not the best thing I've heard, but fine.
Neil Young should stick to songwriting. This is not appealing to listen to at all. The band is fine, but there's not too much going on there ever. This was a chore to sit through
*yawn*
Why is this album here? Didn't do well in the country it was made in and barely gained any traction in the US. It's just really boring as a whole. Not one song is very interesting. Sure, none are bad but just was not easy to listen to the whole thing. If an album can't be listened to in one sitting, it isn't good.
Apart from that, the vocals are OK mostly and a little bad at times, there is a nice variety of instruments on some songs, but they all serve the same purpose of not being too important to the song. The vocals are the star and they aren't great.
I listened to the same song 12 times in a row and didn't like it any more each successive time. Not a 1/5 because it wasn't bad, just boring.
What do I even say?
Free Bird absolutely steals the show, however every other song is great in its own right. For the most this, this is everything I want in a rock album.
Only thing holding it back is probably just some dull moments. I imagine after 2 or 3 listens, though, that I wouldn't feel that way anymore.
This album truly has some amazing hits and some lesser known tracks that still hold together a really good listening experience.
I've never had so much enjoyment in trying not to fall asleep. This is some really good music with nonsensical lyrics that just feel right whether they mean anything or not. I haven't been the biggest fan of shoegaze so far, but this album is really good.
I'm gonna go to sleep now
Not my favorite thing ever. It was overall very fine. The album cover is iconic, so Inwas excited for it. I wasn't really disappointed, but it also didn't blow me away. Just fine.
I got the urge for some reason to rate every song. Here we go
Bittersweet Symphony - 5/5. I already knew this song. It's nothing crazy, but it just works.
Sonnet - 5/5. Pleasantly surprised. I honestly liked it maybe slightly more than Bittersweet Symphony.
The Rolling People - 3/5. Not bad, but I couldn't get into it. Kinda bland.
The Drugs Don't Work - 5/5. This is a beautiful song. Very emotional and pleasant to listen to.
Catching the Butterfly - 4/5. The verses are amazing, the chorus is fine.
Neon Wilderness - ?/5. Can I really rate this with the others? It is good at what it does, just there to be an interlude/wind down. I like when an album does that.
Space and Time - 4/5. It was very calming.
Weeping Willow - 4/5. They're all starting to sound very similar. Of course it's a good similar, but I need more variety or the reviews are just going to say the same thing over and over.
Lucky Man - 5/5. Different enough, also really good and powerful. This is definitely the type of song I'd usually listen to.
One Day - 4/5. Another slow, deep and loud song. I still like it the 10th time, though.
This Time - 3/5. Fine, a little short and a little bland. At least it's different.
Velvet Morning - 4/5. Yeah.. it's good and loud and soft and the other things.
Come On / Deep Freeze (Hidden Track) - 3/5. Come On was not my favorite on the album. Let's see how the Hidden Track holds up. What da baby doin?
Overall, I thought for a while I would give this a 5/5. I liked all the songs early on and even later on in the album, the songs were still really good, just a lot of the same and it got boring over time. I would listen to each and every song again on its own though.
Not bad musically, just largely uninteresting. My favorite was honestly probably Change which wasn't even on the original album. Bloodsport was a nice instrumental. Most songs followed the same pattern of a few random lyrics followed by the name of the song said over and over again and then some instrumentals. That's a fine formula. Nothing great though.
If you would've told me that I would enjoy a thrash metal album, I would've said that you're crazy, but maybe now I'm the crazy one. Thrash metal is all about the guitars and they did not disappoint. I think the vocals work perfectly and the fast tempos keep it interesting. The title track was really good. This is what the generator is about. Finding albums you wouldn't otherwise have listened to and absolutely having a blast.
Great background music. Solid music to listen to. Really interesting vocals in a good way. Pretty good songwriting.
Nothing to dislike here, just not exactly for me.
What went wrong? Actually, I have no idea why I didn't enjoy this album. Everything is fine, but for some reason I just did not want to listen to 11 ZZ Top songs. Sharp Dressed Man was good. Shoutout to Duck Dynasty. Other than that, all the songs are new to me and I probably won't be listening to them again much. Weird.
Well, I of course have heard a few Beastie Boys songs before this. My least favorite of the bunch was always Sabotage. Hearing the whole album this song is on makes it make much more sense. I did not enjoy this at all. Why so many instrumental tracks? Also, why do they feel the need to say their rapper names in every verse? I know who you are by now, Ad Rock. The song with Q-Tip was fine. I thought more favorably of the Beastie Boys an hour ago.
I wrote a whole review and then it didn't save because it was already past time and I was writing it as I was going and that is honestly the cherry on top for this album because I wanted to be done. I respect it, but no, sorry.
This album feels pointless. I would feel ripped off if I went to this concert. I get that it's not all about vocals and whatnot, but there could be some more. The guitar and drums playing is really good, but the same throughout the whole album. Do something else. It leaves me wanting more and less at the same time. And what's the point of this being live? There are a few instances of talking to the crowd and a few instances of cheering from the audience. But other than that, we get full 20 minute stretches of the boring playing with some admittedly beautiful vocals. Like, there really is nothing wrong with this album. It's just boring and pointless.
Gonna review every song.
Janie Jones - 3/5. I like it, but I wouldn't listen often. Hopefully there's better stuff in this album.
Remote Control - 3/5. Another solid song, just not vibing with the vocals/lyrics.
I'm so Bored with the U.S.A - 2/5. Somehow I'm so bored with this album. I love some of their later work, but this isn't great so far.
White Riot - 2/5. Yeah idk I'm as surprised as you are.
Hate & War - 3/5. Best one so far probably.
What's My Name - 3/5. Catchy I guess.
Deny - 3/5. This was the most promising, but I'm not digging the singing. Not necessarily the vocals are bad though.
Ok I'm gonna stop reviewing the songs for the benefit of the album. Instead I'll write a full review after.
Yeah. I just didn't click with this album. I appreciate the amazing guitar, bass and drums playing. It can get boring at times, but they mostly keep it interesting. I don't even mind the vocals or the lyrics. I just don't think it works for me here. I am excited for London Calling. Hopefully that one is much better than this one.
Now I'm going to listen to Ramones Greatest Hits to remind myself I do like punk rock.
Sometimes it's almost like he's talking but in a singing tone. Idk what that means, but it's true. It's one of the best albums that is listed under one person's name I've listened to yet. It's the perfect mix of many genres in my opinion. It runs on the longer side and a couple songs early on got boring quick, but most of these songs are some that I'd absolutely come back to. Many great themes are explored in this album that any can relate to. Honestly didnt expect to enjoy this album as much as I did.
How do you begin to review this album? I guess I'll start with the song titles. I got a good laugh out of a few of them, especially the short instrumental tracks that have no real reason to exist, but I love them for that. That honestly sums up this album. Does an hour long album about the US state of Illinois need to exist? Absolutely not. But is it one of the best pieces of art ever made? Absolutely. But seriously, those titles are something else. A whole paragraph as a title is crazy and it's balanced out by the one word "Jacksonville" and "Chicago" unless you're reading the vinyl version for some reason.
The album itself is beautiful. I didn't instantly click with the singing, but after a bit I got used to it and enjoyed it. I think I actually prefer the female vocalist to Sufjan Steven's himself, but they work so well together. So many instruments are at play here too and it never feels like too much.
The lyrics aren't my favorite part of this album, but even they are really good. Whether it's a story or just emotions, every word feels important. Something about this album feels nostalgic and familiar. I have definitely heard "Chicago" somewhere.
I didn't know what to expect with this album. I honestly thought it looked like a jazz album, which isn't too far off at times. I was absolutely blown away by this album. Thank you generator for showing me this gem.
This album was really good. I'm starting to realize that I really like metal music. What isn't to like? Heavy drums and guitars and interesting vocals. I didn't get completely into this album, but I would love to come back to it in the future.
This album is fine. Nothing too special in my opinion, but some good tunes. I like the instrumental tracks. The vocals aren't amazing, but it's fine.
There's not really anything bad about this album. I like some hip hop, but a lot of this feels bland to me. He has a fine singing voice when he's not just talking. He has a good flow, but I think the backing tracks are the star of the show more than the actual vocals. U Not Like Me, P.I.M.P and In Da Club were my favorites. Solid album, wouldn't listen to the whole thing again, though. Also, Eminem improved it a bit lol.
Nothing great, but nothing bad here. It kind of blended together honestly. I have never been the biggest Oasis fan, so I'm not surprised I'm indifferent to this album. I'd recommend to any rock lover though.
Solid background music. Gets bery annoying when paying close attention. What is going on here? Random people talking in the background saying the same lines over and over. I can respect it, but I won't listen again. I think the singer has a pretty good voice. The backing tracks are also fine. Just nothing stands out and it gets annoying at times
It's not bad, but not exactly great either. Not a fan of the singing and the instrumentals didn't hit very well either for me. Solid album, though
I'm slightly disappointed, but still I am glad I finally listened to this album after wanting to for a long time. Song 2 is honestly one of my favorite songs ever, so I was hoping to find some similarly amazing songs on this album, but that really didn't happen. Sure, a couple songs stood out over the rest along with Song 2, like M.O.R and Death of a Party. Most of the songs, however, just felt... there. The album is pretty long. I feel like a couple songs could have been kept for the deluxe version. Altogether, would listen again and probably will listen to most of these songs again, but as a whole, probably not.
Wow. I am very familiar with later songs by Arctic Monkeys. I didn't think I knew any song from this album, but I did know A Certain Romance and I love that song.
My standouts are definitely A Certain Romance, From the Ritz to the Rubble, Riot Van and Fake Tales of San Francisco. Every song was really good, though. The only maybe downside is this is a VERY British album lol. I think it works here and I wouldn't want anything else from an Arctic Monkeys album, but it can be a bit much sometimes.
I do love this album after the first listen. It is not the best thing ever made, but it is fun and familiar. Nothing not to like here.
I didn't dislike the album. There are some good tunes. I liked Stop That Train the best. A lot of the tracks just felt bland and slow. I like that I listened, but probably won't return any time soon.
Yeah, I really like this album. Very heavy on the piano and bass and that works perfectly here. Now, the star of the show is the amazing vocal performance. The lyrics might be pretty standard, but that doesn't matter when they sound amazing. I don't listen to this genre, but I would definitely come back to this album in the future. It sounds like music my mom would listen to and I like most of what she listens to, so that's good.
This is my favorite type of hip hop. I thought this was a really fun, energetic and sometimes emotional album that I enjoyed listening to. I don't listen to much hop hop outside of when it pops up on the generator, but I would come back to this in a heartbeat. My standouts are "If You Only Knew" "Break" "Remember His Name" and "Sum Of Us." It may not be perfect, but it's just a great listen.
What even is Hard Rock? This doesn't seem very hard to me. Anyway, it's pretty annoying. All the songs sound the same and not great. I don't think any are bad other than Born To Be Wild, but still. None are very good.
Pretty good. Great voice, great lyrics, groovy and fun instrumentals. Nothing not to like, but for me, just not the exact style of music I listen to. This is about as good as a album can get without me wanting to come back to it. Maybe a song here and there, but not the whole album again. It's also iconic, so bonus points there for what it's worth.
This was really good. I have heard of Pixies, but never listened to them other than Where Is My Mind. I was very pleasantly surprised. This music is right up my alley. I like the shorter and more playful tracks and the longer and sometimes emotional tracks. I'll absolutely come back to this album.
Yeah, I can see the hype. Very good and timeless album. I listen to very similar music all the time including a few of these songs. Nirvana isn't my favorite band by any means, but they are definitely up there for me. A couple more songs might be added to my main playlist from this album after this listen. I'd recommend this to any rock fan if they haven't already heard it.
Wow, this is certainly an album by British rock band, Faces! I thought it was definitely music and also rock. Instruments were present, as well as vocals. I would absolutely say this is an album!
This is fun. I enjoyed my time, but I don't want to listen to jazz for at least a week and a half after this.
I have heard of Deep Purple, but I've never been a fan. Not until today that is, because wow this album had me intrigued from beginning to end. My one issue is that sometimes the guitar solos are so long that you forget what song you're listening to and then the chorus comes back and sounds out of place. That may lessen as I listen to these songs more and more and trust me I definitely will. All the instruments come together perfectly and I like the vocals. It's not very long either, so it didn't get boring or repetitive.
There is something comforting about this album. The instruments all play their part very well, usually taking a backseat to Bob Dylan's vocals. Too bad the vocals are mostly bad. Make You Feel My Love is really good and I think it works with his vocals unlike a lot of other songs in this album. I get the importance of it though. He's still making great music a few decades into the business. This is the first of his album's I've heard, so I'm not a big fan, so I can't appreciate this album for that yet. I would like to revisit this album after hearing his other stuff, but for now, this is where I'm at.
Groovy. Jazzy. Fun. Yeah. I liked it. Not exactly my style of rock, but I'd listen again. I would come back to this in the future
I love the instruments and the idea of this album. The voice, I just cannot get behind. What was he thinking? Was he thinking? No idea, but it just gets annoying because the songs could be amazing, 5/5, but instead we get this disappointment
The songs get repetitive. I like hos voice and the instruments are exquisite. Not much to dislike here honestly. I can jam out to this, but it's not my first choice.
I don't exactly know how to feel about this album. First off, it doesn't seem like it did too well on the charts. I liked some parts, but other parts just sounded like random noise
I couldn't get much into this album. The singing isn't my favorite and the instrumentals were sometimes bare. A few tracks are really good though and I would definitely come back to this album.
It for sure is funky. Nothing immediately stands out to me honestly. I could see myself listening to any song here without paying much attention. I just don't think it would ever be my first choice. Funk music is definitely something I like, but I think I like more funk rock than just funk. Either way, still very solid and worth a listen.
This is a really good album. Shuggie Otis did most of the instruments himself along with singing, which is very impressive. I am very glad to have heard it and especially glad to now know of Shuggie Otis. I'll definitely give his other work a listen.
How do I begin? That works. Johnny Cash might not have had the best vocals at this point in his life, but that just makes this album hurt more. He definitely had some gas left in the tank and used it to put out one more amazing album before his death. All covers were chosen perfectly. Desperado, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and We'll Meet Again are heartbreaking in the originals, but just get elevated by Johnny Cash. His original songs are also amazing, especially Give My Love to Rose.
I am a huge Red Hot Chili Peppers fan, so seeing John Frusciante on Personal Jesus as well as a voice in We'll Meet Again in amazing.
This whole album is just Johnny Cash saying goodbye and it could not be any more sad, but I like to feel emotions when listening to music. Usually that emotion is anger or happiness, but the sad ones hit the hardest.
Words really just cannot describe just how amazing this album is.
I know that one song by The White Stripes. Now I know a lot more and they were mostly really good. This album is right up my alley. There was a solid variety of songs as well, whether it was loud and heavy or soft. I will definitely come back to this album after listening to their other albums whether they are featured on this list or not. The White Stripes could become one of my favorite bands.
This album was a chore and a half. This is far from the king of pop title that I've heard be used about Prince. The vocals were fine, the instruments were fine, but just not great. I was honestly annoyed throughout most of this album
This is the first Radiohead album I've listened to. I really do not have any complaints at all. Fake Plastic Trees is probably my favorite on the album, but so many come close. There is not a single song that is bad here. I am excited to hear more from Radiohead.
Pretty average punk rock album. I jammed out to a couple and wished a few would end sooner, the perfect balance. This is much better than some punk albums I've heard, but nothing special.
This album felt very nostalgic despite me never hearing most of the songs before. That is with the exception of Embryonic Journey which ends my favorite show of all time, Friends. Other than that beauty, every song is good at least. It felt like I was in my grandparents car listening to 60s on 6, which is a station I'll need to check out again after finishing this list to see how many songs I recognize. This album may not be my preferred style of music, but it's always great when you listen to something you aren't used to and absolutely love every second of it. Jefferson Airplane is definitely a band I now intend on listening to more of. Thanks 1001 Albums for this gem.
Pretty generic, but good. I think this is what people think about when they hear Classic Rock. The band all around is very good, but the songs themselves kind of get boring and I wouldn't want to listen to this for any longer than the album already is. Definitely good, but not amazing.
I definitely enjoyed this album. It was fun and energetic. It was never boring, if just a little repetitive. Definitely reminds me of a few bands, so probably not the most original style, but I like it and they do it very well. So, to answer the question, yes, they slayed.
At first, I really liked this album. And then it went on and on and on. The singing was great, the instruments were great as well. But the album as a whole was just too boring and repetitive. Maybe some of these songs are great, but as a whole, the album just isn't great.
I honestly really did not like this album. There were definitely times where I was vibing, but other times I wondered why this is rated highly. I don't necessarily dislike the album, but I wouldn't really come back to any of these songs.
I had way more fun than I probably should have listening to this album. If you have ever thought about making an album, do it, because this random guy from Essex did it and it worked. His vocals aren't great, but they work perfectly with the album. The jazzy instrumentals help to make a fun listen. I would never recommend this to anyone, but I would listen to this album again.
Yeah. This album is interesting. Kind of boring, kind of fun maybe. I like the shoegaze elements, but they aren't that prevalent. It's really just another British soft rock album that doesn't stand out
How do I write this review? Well, I guess I'll start by saying that I didn't enjoy the album. Too angry. Too political. Too a lot of things. Just not something I want to listen to. Politics and music can and do work together, but in my opinion, this is just annoying and doesn't do anything to change what they are raging about for almost an hour straight. Also every single track overstays it's welcome. Meh.
This is definitely a fun album. I liked a lot about it. For sure my favorite of this genre so far, but I am not a big fan of the genre itself. I would come back to this in the future. He has a good voice without even trying.
The album started very well. I liked the beats and the vocals and lyricism, but this is one of those albums that could have been a lot shorter to its benefit. Having 6 minute long slow songs makes it go on forever and it did no favors here. I appreciate it, but not my thing.
I will be hearing drum and bass in my sleep for years to come. I did not necessarily dislike the album, but literally nothing about it sticks out. I do not like this genre of music. This is a compilation album, so not even one artist's work. I don't want to give this a 1, because it's not bad. It's just not an album I would ever listen to again, not even a single song probably.
This was fun at times and boring at others. This album showcases a style of music that is not played much where I am from, but definitely has value. The singing was really good. There just isn't much that sticks out here. I appreciate this album for existing, but I wouldn't listen on my spare time.
This may have been more enjoyable than most electronica albums at times, but still is just too long and annoying. I like electronic elements in songs, but when that is the whole song, it gets stale.
This is what a punk album should be. This is one of my favorite genres and this album is now one of my favorites. Most songs are amazing and maybe the two best are the first and last tracks. It did go on for a long time and got maybe a little boring near the end, but still, altogether this is a near perfect album. I have never been a huge fan of The Clash, especially not their self-titled, but this is a huge improvement and worthy of 5 stars.
ZZ Top is an interesting band. I have heard their music for so long without ever really knowing it. I definitely liked this album more than Eliminator, but not by much. It is very solid and has some really good songs, but a lot are just kind of boring. I had high hopes after the first couple songs, but it went downhill from there. I will say, though, I have a more favorable opinion on ZZ Top after hearing this album. There was variety in this album, but it just didn't all land for me.
I have been wanting to listen to this album because I have liked what I heard from M.I.A. The first couple songs were pretty bad. Maybe I just wasn't fully into the right mindset yet. By Jimmy and Hussel, I liked a lot about it, but still there were moments of "yeah this isn't very good". Then at World Town I had found a new appreciation for the album and every song after that hit perfectly.
I'm not sure if my opinion of this album is very high, but I loved a lot from it. I think it will only get better with time as I relisten to the best and forget the worst. This is not my genre of choice today, but is not much off from what I listened to as a kid. Some of that appreciation for this type of music is still there and is shown with an album like this.
About half of the songs on this album are really good and catchy and I love them. Then the other half are just there. When the album is less than 30 minutes, only having half of the album be memorable is not the best. I do really like the album overall. There is something about the quick vocals and simple drum beats and poppy guitars. I don't know what it is but I am drawn to this album.
May be cheesy and basic, but.. well yeah that's what it is. I definitely liked a lot about this album, I just don't think it's something I needed to listen to really. It didn't knock my socks off or anything. Just some good songs. Probably won't be coming back to this, but I appreciate it.
Bruce Springsteen uses emotion so well in this album. Unfortunately it does get way too repetitive near the end. Still, some really heartbreaking stories are told beautifully. It's hard not to love this. The instruments aren't anything amazing, but work perfectly here.
Other than the first and last tracks, there are some fun songs here that at worst get slightly annoying, but it was more manageable in my opinion than other electronica albums on this list.
This album is very boring and uninspiring. Nothing in this album is something I want to listen to. It's not bad. There are definitely redeeming factors to it. I can understand why it is popular, but this is not for me at all. It is also way too long. I usually like interlude tracks, but none of them add anything more than the last. This is just not my style of music and that's ok.
I had high hopes for this album, considering it is on the top 20 albums on the whole list, but it really didn't strike me as anything amazing. The guitar playing is really great and the other instruments are perfect. The vocals can be fun sometimes, but when they all come together sometimes it feels off. Things feel out of place and there are some dull moments. Still, this album is really good and I would recommend it to people. I definitely wouldn't say it's anywhere near one of my favorites ever made.
I am disappointed from my own ignorance. I thought Strawberry Fields Forever was on this album. Oops. Well it was a big mistake not to include it and Penny Lane on the album replacing some more, shall I say, boring inclusions. The highs of this album are great though. Psychedelic rock is one of my favorite genres and this definitely was a good album. There just is not really a standout song. I think maybe if I were to listen to some songs more, I could really love this album.
This is a very good album. Not only does it sound amazing, but it tells a story, too. This is very theatrical, which I like. Most songs work perfectly on their own, but they are better all in one sitting.
There's a lot to like about this album, but there's also a lot to feel absolutely nothing about. It's an album for sure. It's not bad. Nothing about this album is great or necessary by any means, but nothing is offensive to my ears. This is the definition of "...yeah."
A triple album is great when you like the music. Unfortunately this is just too many boring songs for my liking. I definitely see the value in a few songs, but I would have liked this slightly more if it had a third of the songs. Soft Rock isn't exactly my style.
This album was fun, but very dated. Not exactly my style, but I liked it. The Monkees are legendary for a reason
There are some positive elements in this album. It does stay interesting enough I think. The singing is good and the experimental music in the background is good. It's just not my style of music. I might listen to some songs again, but not the whole album.
I like the crab on the album cover. Electronica hasn't been my favorite genre, but this has vocals that keep it interesting. I would say this type of electronica is definitely more palatable to me. I would probably listen to any of these songs again and if someone ever wants an electronica album to listen to, I can recommend this one. Mostly for the crab.
Words cannot truly describe my emotions listening to this album. My gosh. First, let's address the elephant in the room, Fred Durst. Now that he's addressed, let's get onto the album. Awful. Just awful. I thought I liked nu metal. I thought I liked Freak on a Leash. I have never listened to it with a critical eye and honestly it's just not very good. Then, flop after flop and this album is just boring at best and the worst sounds you've ever let grace your ears at worst. The best part of this album is Slimkid3 and Ice Cube. I don't even like hip hop that much. Who let this album reach the public? That has to be against some federal law. The guitarist is really good though.
I really liked this album early on, but it was pretty much the exact same throughout. She has a great voice and all of the songs are good, but as a whole album it's not my favorite. I like the collaboration with Emmylou Harris on Greenville. The title track, Car Wheels On A Gravel Road was probably my favorite. Joy was another good song. Good album overall, but not my favorite.
This album was pretty boring in my opinion. I hadn't heard any songs before this listen. To me, this is just pretty outdated. I wouldn't be mad if someone put this album on, but it would never be my choice.
This album is really good. I like how it feels like an actual story. It was able to keep me interested throughout the whole hour and 16 minutes. I'm not the biggest fan of rap, but this is enjoyable.
I like country music. It's what I grew up listening to. This is just very generic and doesn't give me a reason to love it. Today, country isn't my genre of choice, but it really depends on the song. I don't think I'd really listen to any of these again, but who knows? Solid album overall
Yeah this is just really boring and 28 minutes too long. Sorry Loretta Lynn. I actually really love Coal Miner's Daughter, but this album is just so boring, not to mention very dated and almost hurts my ears. There is talent here, but I'd rather listen to other music.
Funk is not my favorite genre. The singing on this album is not great. The instruments are fun sometimes, but overall I am bored and unsatisfied. I know Earth, Wind & Fire has the capability of being great, but I didn't find that with any songs here.
How does one begin to say bad things about an album created by a legendary singer on his death bed? Well, I guess one could start by saying that at this point in his life, he just could not sing very well. Understandable. He is on his death bed as previously mentioned. I can cut him some slack for that, but I won't listen to the album again. He can't sing. I like listening to good singing.
Now, lyrically this album is probably a 5/5. The songs are written beautifully.
Another issue I have with the album is the instruments. It's very minimalistic. Usually just a piano, maybe some strings of some sort occasionally. That's fine, but it obviously is taking a backseat to the singing, which as I've said isn't good.
This album would be perfect if it was sung by someone who still had that ability. No hate to Leonard Cohen, though. I am excited to hear his previous works. I'm just not a fan of this one.
This is a pretty big step up from their debut album. Their sound is more fleshed out and every song is great. This sounds like music I'd put on in my spare time. Maybe a couple songs here can find their way into my personal playlist. Who knows!? Arcade Fire is pretty good.
This is my first album by Elvis Costello. I liked it, kinda. I can see why more than 1 album from this guy is annoying. I can't wait until I am on the Elvis Costello hate train as well.
About the actual album, it's just kinda boring but also similar to what I would usually listen to. The difference is the pretty bad singing at times. Also, some songs just go on and on. Nothing bad, but nothing really great.
We have arrived at the first album I've already heard in it's entirety many times. Wow. I absolutely love this album. I own it on vinyl. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of my favorite bands and this is one of my favorite albums. It all started a year and a half ago when my mom randomly said, "Hey, do you want to go to a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert." I had never gone to a concert before, but I had heard a few of their songs, so I said yes. It was the Unlimited Love tour. I looked at the common setlists and saw it was mostly songs from their main albums including Californication. I listened to those popular ones before the concert, then the rest in the days after. Since then, I've listened to them so much. They were just my #1 artist on my YouTube Music Recap. The songs from this album I heard live were Californication and Scar Tissue.
What makes RHCP so good? It's everything. Chad Smith, Flea, John Frusciante and even Anthony Keidis are all at their best in this album. Anthony receives a lot of hate for ruining the band, but if you take any member, especially him, out of the band, it just isn't the same. His nonsensical rambling, his weird lyrics, I wouldn't change any of it.
Every song on this album is a 10/10. Around the World is a great start possibly the most RHCP song ever made. Some of my favorites are the fast and loud ones. Get On Top, I Like Dirt and Right On Time fit that category. They are just fun. Then of course there's the sad ones that bring us into the life of Anthony. Scar Tissue, Otherside, Savior.
It's impossible not to mention the title track, Californication. This song is amazing. The lyrics of this song are some of my favorites in their whole discography. It's not necessarily my favorite song on the album, that would be too hard to choose, but it might be their best song.
When I finish the list, this likely won't be chosen as my favorite album, but that's because I want to choose an album that I wouldn't have heard if it wasn't for the list. Just know that this is one of the best albums ever made.
