Reviews (page 15 of 15)
I love it
Classic pop, not my thing
This does feel harsh, but 4 is too much. There's some really good tunes on here, but some of them are just a bit boring to me. Nothing about it stands as an album either, in the sense that it's just a collection of tunes. Good tunes, but not great
Very up and down. There's the songs you know and the songs you don't
I’m not the first to say this, but there’s no reason to listen to this album instead of a “best of ABBA singles” playlist. Dancing Queen, Knowing Me Knowing You, Money Money Money are bops though.
Dancing Queen deserved a better album.
I don’t know it’s ABBA it’s fine.
I cannot fucking believe that every single song on this record has a Wikipedia article. Key Tracks: Dancing Queen, Tiger
I love a good ABBA song. what I wasn't prepared for was that every song on this album that isn't already on a greatest hits album actually completely sucks. I truly hoped to discover ABBA songs I liked as much as their greatest hits and that sure didn't work out! edit: turns out Tiger was not on any greatest hits albums despite being a single that even I'm aware of. so there's one!
Garbage One star because I can’t give it zero!
This songs are so well crafted that it's easy to see why they were so popular. ABBA knew how to right a compelling middle 8 as well. Modern pop music is incredibly indebted to ABBA. The instrumentation is lush and slick, and everything about the production is careful and intentional. Though this is not my favorite style of music, I can appreciate just how well done it is. Very enjoyable.
Went into it ready for a 1 star, as I never really got good vibes off Abba. I still don't, but it has some redeeming features.
Jams left and right.
Not my genre....obviously; however I was suprised at how much I enjoyed this album. The hits are uniformly very good, though I do wish the arrangements were just a little more edgy but that would be besides the point I suppose. Anyway a solid 3.5 for what it is and the sing-along factor.
This would be a 5 if I didn't know that ABBA ever put out any music before or since. Or if this sounded like these songs could only be together on this album and not on, say, their next one or their previous one. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent album and this has so many great songs! But let's be honest, an ABBA greatest hits collection is a 5 star an everything else must be lower
Great pop music featuring perhaps the greatest pop song of all time.
Tasty slice of pop pie
Classics interspersed with cheese
A few pop gems, perfect for a Monday
ABBA is something else. I mean there's hit after hit on here, but I'm not pulling this off the shelf and adding it to my record collection.
Absolute banger, saved. Iconic song after icon song.
July 15, 2021 All the light is topaz. Someone came to look at the house next door and I stopped it so they wouldn't hear me playing ABBA with the window open at 9:30am. Sorry ABBA for doing you like that. Cheesy, but I love it. There are a few classics on here. Also, somewhat surprisingly learning I'm kind of into ABBA's album cover aesthetic?
I don't think I could ever again just sit there and listen to straight ABBA. That is a truly psychotic thing to do.
Great songs
they arrived like disco, all new and fun then left after a day BYE
I really like some songs of the album, but is not my favorite music style.
Favorite: Knowing Me, Knowing You
Fun disco album that tells us how Abba dominated pop in the 70s. With catchy lyrics and melody, each track stands on its own. "Dancing Queen" is one of the best disco tracks of all time. I just wanted to point out how stupid "Dum Dum Diddle" is and how I feel they were trying to make a point the lyrics don't have to make sense. "Why Did It Have To Be?" was a nice surprise, incorporating jazz, blues, and rockabilly yet still making it catchy pop. The closing title track almost feels like the end of mass. The 1997 bonus track "Fernando" is another favorite of mine, capturing a unique perspective of the Mexican Dirty War. Overall not my favorite Abba album, but with solid production and creativity, it certainly tops the pop scene of the era.
34. Os montes têm frio. Já é tempo de os cobrir de branco, com a pureza dos céus. Havia algo no ar da noite. O que raio é uma tamborina? MotA: Dancing Queen "Everybody screamed when I kissed the teacher"
Better! Enjoyed Dancing Queen!
It was ok, poppy music. Definitely Won’t be a favorite.
Pretty good, although Dancing Queen is the obvious standout.
Some jams, but not quite my favorite
classic, and great. dang why do I love this cheesy stuff ha
Classic.
3.5/5 Some bad songs, mostly good
Absolute fucking classic man. Fernando is a whole vibe. Add in Dancing queen, and I mean When i kissed the teacher is kinda weird, but it's good. Plus money, money, money. Solid stuff.
This is the first album I couldn’t even sample all of the songs. I just can’t do disco.
FERNANDOOOOOO
Just good fun. Way muddier mix than I remembered. This is kind of charming sometimes, but I would have liked to hear the impressive instrumental arrangements a bit better. The stadium guitars that appear every once in a while are pretty funny---but I'm definitely not complaining.
Not my style, but fun. Clearly influential and progressive
Vocalization is a bit monotone and repetitive. What I mean is, the lead singer sounds almost the same on every track. Dancing Queen is the star of the show and the rest are largely forgettable.
Well known songs are sickly sweet and overhyped. The unmarketed parts of the album are better
Decent
i think the production was great for its time but i'm just not a fan of disco at all. probably skews the data but what are ya gonna do.
Fairly consistent album. Some classic singles and some filler
Didn't hate it as much as I thought, but it was still bad. There's a blues song on this album? Dancing Queen is great.
Relaxing
I mean.. it’s ABBA. Catchy tunes and they sound great even though it’s not my preferred style of music.
Really definitive sound. Vocalization is crazy and quite operatic. Good production quality. Not really my type of music so sounded repetitive after a few songs.
Bouncy pop. Pretty good. Some catchy tracks but nothing that made we say "whoa"
Fucking bops, all around.
i like pop
You can never go wrong with some ABBA. Some of the songs here clearly aren't on any best-ofs for a reason - When I Kissed The Teacher aged very poorly - but overall it's a fun listen.
Bright, fun, quintessential Abba.
I fucking LOVE ABBA! So happy to listen this
it's abba. nuff said. excellent uplifting beats, some big hitting classics on here, mixed in with a good dose of melacholy-ish but not too much to bring the overall mood down. a party album - will come back to it again and again!
Modern pop music would be better if more real drums (and bass and guitar) were involved. This is fun!
Not a single bad song throughout the album which was a quite blast listening through. It also has bangers like dancing queen which have you dancing all around, very good
Trill lil pop album. Don’t know if I’ll ever listen again though :)
Classic pop album, some enjoyable tracks (more well known ones) though not really my thing.
good 70's disco album. I had heard several of the songs before.
already know dancing queen, and money money money. dont really like listening to them though
Disco folk music, as it were. Bright, shiny and happy, danceable and nostalgic.
1. when i kissed the teacher: escena inicial de peli de los 80’ con la protagonista corriendo en una tarde de verano vibes / 2. dancing queen: TEMAZO TEMON TEMAIKEN / 3. my love, my life: cute / 4. dum dum diddle: que buena canción loco ojalá la pasaran en el baile / 5. knowing me, knowing you: de mis favs / 6. money, money, money: critica contundente al capitalismo!!!! / 7. thats me: divertida. / 8. why did it had to be me?: me aburrí / 9. tiger: esta está como pa escucharla cada mañana.
5/5 igual, no me importa naaaa. my love my life - casi me duermo, ni lei la letra, 1/5. "dum dum diddle"-parece una canción de xuxa mal hecha, 1/5 (nadie iguala a xuxa) "knowing me, knowing you"- not my cup of tea, ni la terminé. 1/5 "money money money" - abba invented capitalism 5/5. "If I got me a wealthy man I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball" no quiero decir que me recuerda a alguien pero.... "thats me"- "But I'm not a man's toy, I'll never be I'm Carrie not-the-kind-of-girl-you'd-marry That's me" la pongo en la proxima marcha 4/5 "why did it have to be me?"
Not my style, but well done for sure.
An almost perfect collection of scandi-pop tunes by some truly gifted song writers. Love it!
Erg hoempapa maar wel lit
Schwer zu hören, schwerer nicht mitzusingen
Unhörbar
One of the most positive albums ever.
Wonderful! Improves with age
Although three LPs and a greatest-hits compilation preceded it, Arrival is aptly titled, as this album announces the band's move beyond bubblegum. Arrival contains three huge hit singles, the dramatic "Money Money Money," the downcast "Knowing Me, Knowing You," and quite possibly the band's finest four minutes, the absolutely perfect pop classic "Dancing Queen," a combination of Spector-ian grandeur, McCartney-esque melody, and the indescribable vocals of Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad
Well, it's ABBA. What else is there to say? Catchy pop tunes, a couple of them extremely well-known. But mostly too unassuming and lacking any depth.
Never been a fan of ABBA, can tell they had talent, wide ranging songs, clearly musical talent there, but just really not my bag. 2/5
Good mix.
IM the dancing queen
YAS QUEEN
If there was ever a singles band, it is ABBA. In terms of pure pop, Waterloo is one of the best singles ever--it's just nonstop hooks, high energy, and perfect execution from beginning to end. But ABBA is responsible for a lot of revolting music, too, so I didn't go into this review with high expectations. There is a fine line between exuberant and overbearing and ABBA consistently crosses it. Much of Arrival feels overstuffed, overproduced, and has a overly sweet, cloying quality. The combination of the perky choruses and the thumping bass on When I Kissed the Teacher makes my stomach ache. Same goes for the descending Liberace piano figures on Dancing Queen. To be fair, it's this very excess or to be kinder, ahem generosity of spirit, that ABBA fans find appealing. When ABBA slows down the tempo, as on My Love, My Life, their gooey sentimentality is brought into even harsher relief. This is a band that makes The Carpenters seem edgy. They've sanded down all the elements in their music, lacquered them and buffed them to a glossy shine, like a bubblegum pink cadillac. If you're getting the idea that ABBA rubs me the wrong way, you are 100% correct. But even on ABBA own terms, as a bubblegum hit making machine, Arrival falls short. There are only a couple of Pavlovian earworms here. 2/5
Easy and fun listen, very similar to The Carpenters in that regard. I was a little underwhelmed, especially with some of the more singsong-y tracks like Dum Dum Diddle and Happy Hawaii - obviously nothing is gonna rival Dancing Queen, but nothing else made a great impact on me. This could be a 4 off pure enjoyment alone, but a high 3 feels much better for how I felt about this as an album Already Saved: Dancing Queen Saved After Listening: My Love, My Life
Saved Prior: Dancing Queen; Money, Money, Money Off Rip: My Love, My Life; Dum Dum Diddle; That's Me; Tiger Cutting Edge: Knowing Me, Knowing You Overall Notes: I truly do not understand why people hate ABBA. You have to be so angry at people being happy. The lyrical depth of this album caught me off guard, was expecting vapid songs and these songs were not that. That's Me might be my favorite ABBA song by a country mile. ABBA know who they are and they do it so damn well. Went into this thinking ABBA were the quintessential Greatest Hits over Albums band, but this worked as an album very well. 4.5 to a 4 because it was just about what I expected and didn't really surprise me musically, but that doesn't mean this album didn't go crazy.
Loved it
Nao da pra nao gostar de ABBA
After 3 albums that I didn’t love, I was happy to release my inner dancing queen. I’m pretty sure ABBA are white supremacists, which I obviously don’t love, but they knew how to lay down a funky beat and a catchy lyric.
.
Some obvs bangers but not my jam really
A solid album full of hooks by the Swedish goliaths of pop
Perfectly pleasant 70's pop.
This was better than I feared. The singles were okay, dancing queen is good. The rest was not annoying.
Non merci
I like ABBA, but besides the singles I wasn't impressed
ABBA is great in small doses but the happy-pop vibes get really grating after a while. But the good 1st half balances out the 2nd bad half for me.
‘Knowing me, knowing you’ is een favoriet van me. Verder vond ik het nogal een zit, een hele plaat ABBA.
I'm over ABBA....
A classic album and even tho parts of it are problematic, I still really liked the way it sounded.
very good album, not quite a 5 star but i would give it a 4.5 star if i could. this is because the songs are very similar and i have to be in a good mood to listen to them but very good songs and, of course, iconic
some classics on here, but not a huge huge fan of abba overall. Interesting to see early pop
a great album!
Ouff, s’était pénible. J’ai failli abdiqué, mais je suis un gars de principe et je l’ai écouter jusqu’à happy Hawaï. I was so happy it was the end! Je l’évite l’album au complet, je m’ennuie presque de Sinatra Je levite i am the Tiger eat me b****!
Waouh!!!
surprisingly, I listened the complete album
Awful music, did not listen.
Fun and catchy pop songs, but I’m just not the biggest ABBA fan. Glad I listened though!
,j 'ai toujours eu une répulsion pour ce groupe et je l'ai 'aiencore et dire que c'est un succes planétaire en dit long sur les humains et leurs gout
A few ok songs, but not the strongest hand to open with. Knowing me knowing you is a great track. Not my cup of herring juice
This was pretty good. Easy to listen to with quite a few tunes.
The songwriting and production are so underrated with ABBA. They deserve praise for their masterful and intelligent pop songwriting. It’s a pop masterpiece, with songs that will live forever.
vachier vachier vachier vachier Venez pas me dire que le métal rend violent, moi c'est abba qui me donne le goût de fesser dans les murs de SheetRock à grand coups de pieds. Criss de quétaines. MAUVAIS MAUVAIS MAUVAIS
great voices, nice record, some cool songs and a timeless classic
Gag me with a spoon.
Don't make me listen to more than two songs of ABBA in a row, thanks :-D (and I give it three stars because I still recognize it's a nice pop album of its time)
Such perfect 70s pop - the rhythms, harmonies, and just plain and simple fun.
It's pop music. Singles are by far the best songs here. 5/10
I liked a song or two from there
Not a great album in terms of structure or when taken as a single work, but a really good collection of songs.
Dancing Queen is one of my favorite songs, so I enjoyed that one. Found Dum Dum Diddle peppy and Tiger sort of catchy. Otherwise, enjoyed listening but not enough to buy the album.
meh not very good
Made me want to dance
This is going to be tough. Historically, I haven't liked ABBA at all. Let's see what happens... When I Kissed the Teacher - Didn't like it. Dancing Queen - Obviously I've heard it before. I was ok with it this time. Dum Dum Diddle - I hate this... Literally "hate." Knowing Me, Knowing You - I don't hate this. There's something decent happening here. Money, Money, Money - The minor key helps. It's not a good rock song, but I feel like it could be part of a European opera. Don't hate it. That's Me - nah Why Did it Have to be Me? - Nothing particularly in either direction here. Tiger - oof no Arrival - No vocals definitely helps Fernando - Not terrible. I'd rather to hear someone else play it with a talented Spanish acoustic guitarist. Happy Hawaii - I'd rather hear this in a Hawaiian style recorded by Don Ho. Or anyone else. Fuck, AC/DC would have made a better version of this. I feel like this album (and all of Abba) is part of the Eurotrash origin story. I forced myself to listen to the whole thing. I won't be listening to it again. Goddamnit, I hate Abba.
I would have given it a 3, but it's a 4 for Emily
Gonna start this off by saying that I dislike ABBA in general. Ever since I heard Dancing Queen the first time years ago, I did NOT like that song. Just ABBA itself I just.. It just does not click with me. We'll see how this goes. // When I Kissed The Teacher - Yep. Sounds like ABBA. Booo. // Dancing Queen - >:( . God damnit I hate this fucking song (Still listened anyways, gotta give it the benefit of the doubt). 3:02~ This song does not end plz god kill me. // My Love, My Life - yawn. // Dum Dum Diddle - these all sound exactly the same. idk if it's the fact that their voices annoy me, or that the melody literally just follows the vocals (which is an awfully boring way to make a song) but this is physically painful for me to listen to. // Knowing Me, Knowing You - I have nothing to say. // Money, Money, Money - oh wow the bass follows exactly with the vocals what a change up from the melody doing it! WOW! SO INNOVATIVE!! // That's Me - Y'know, I think I can see what I hate about this album so much. It's flat. There is no depth sonically. Each song sounds like it's mixed in the exact same way as the other. Not only does it feel uninspired, unimpressive, and honestly, boring, but even given the time period this album came out, there were so many other albums released even during the same year that did have a sonic depth to them, or maybe used more than 5 instruments. I mean, every single Beatles album came out (the most recent being an entire 6 years) before this did, and why are those fun to listen to? More noise. The songs feel like they have a strong sonic substance behind them. That's the simplest way I can put it. I'm a sucker for big sound with lots of moving parts, and this is NOT it. // Why Did It Have To Be Me? - Yeah that's what I'm sayin chief. The only reason I even remotely enjoyed this track is because it sounds like The Wanderer by Dion. // Tiger - You can't go from singing about boo hoo Why Me and then the next song is about being a Tiger. Pick a theme now come the fuck on. Funny enough though, the way this song is built and its chord progression has made it my favorite of the album so far (But I promise that is NOT saying much). // Arrival - 0:02 ~Ok the albums lead track, please be not absolute pond water. 0:44 ~ okayyy a bit of depth, nice. come on little buddy, you can do it! 1:48 ~ mhmm, mhmm, yeah. 3:00 ~ Two things. One: Why is this here? What purpose. Two: Thank you ABBA for a semi-pleasant break from the stand-still traffic monotony that this album has been so far. // Fernando - Ok I actually kind of like this one, but only a little bit. GG // Happy Hawaii - I liked this song until they started singing. 2:06 ~ See, the background vocals, it makes the song better doesn't it. Almost like.. almost like adding more interesting things and D E P T H to the song makes it more enjoyable to listen to. Huh. 3:33 ~ Now thats wtf I'm talking about! More harmonies in the guitars yes yes yes. . Wow this song had so many ups and down! /> Final Thoughts: This album had virtually nothing for me. Tbh maybe I'm just not the target demographic and I get that, but at the same time, I don't know how anyone could be. A flat album, 90% sounds exactly the same. Not fun except for extremely infrequent places where 'Oh look, the did something different this time'. I did stick through it though. In the nature of what this website is trying to do, I did stick with it one single full time through. I owe the album at least that much. I will definitely not be coming back to this album on my own, and if I'm a lucky man, will never hear a single song from it ever again. fuck you dancing queen fuck you.
Abba is niet mijn ding
Really Enjoyed this album Dum Dum Diddle - Slaps
Better than the last ABBAlbum
Arrival, a 1976 album by the Swedish band ABBA is the music of the day for me. And what a great day. I used to be judgmental about ABBA for some reason. I was very dismissive and they seemed like terrible bubblegum international pop for a long time in my brain. I can't believe anyone would listen to this garbage! This has changed. At some point I learned to let go and be willing to let the context and circumstances sweep me away and bring me joy. At some point, ABBA became a lovely band and I'm now filled with joy from listening to them. Just let go and let the music take you.
Wel prima album, maar het blijft jammerlijk Abba
It's really all disco. Everything.
Certified bops
nice one. Again, from my childhood.
Its a good album i've heard most of the songs before but this sorta music just isnt for me
Their hits are classics, but man I don’t actually like their music. It’s too peppy/disco for me.
No I did not..
ABBA ne
Never a bad time for abba
I'm now the dancing queen
If there is a Hell, they are playing this on repeat.
Holy wall of sound. 70s style lots of instruments and lots of notes everywhere. Really liked the guitar sound every time it came in. Everything else not so much. Most songs annoying Fernando is the best track along with the final one
some of the schlockier, inauthentic sounding music i've heard .. Dancing Queen rips
This was really hard to get through..
Abba, Pop. Pretty Nice.
Mixed. Some classics in there, but not really my taste
Man, this one was a struggle to get through.
An incredible pop record. The songwriting, the arrangements, the musicianship, the production - all fantastic. Perhaps not something I would choose to listen to regularly, but I still think this is probably one of the greatest pop records of all time.
Klassisk ABBA. Verdens beste album.
love it.
todos los hitazos
Who doesn't like ABBA?
Oh well ABBA...reminds me of some good parties and other good memories. But I wouldn‘t listen to this on my own.
4/5
A typically good ABBA album
I couldn't help but recall that this album was basically written to win Eurovision.
some heat but all kind of sound the same
Listened to about 5 songs.
Utter. Garbage. Disco is the worst thing to ever happen to music. So much hate.
Fængende pop, 70’er, kærlighed, simpelt
oh oh oh im too excited for this!!! never have i ever clicked the spotify link and hit play this fast!
ABBA is a good bit of fun but it's cheesy shit 7/10 haha
3
