Pretzel Logic
Steely DanOne of the most overrated bands ever. Being "technically" good is just code for really, really boring. Aja is better but this really shouldn't be on any list.
One of the most overrated bands ever. Being "technically" good is just code for really, really boring. Aja is better but this really shouldn't be on any list.
If you don't like this album, then you really have no business on this journey. This is experimental, different, and incredible.
It's so forgettable that I keep forgetting I'm listening to it. It's like being trapped in Walgreens or some off brand department store.
It's fine. Seems like there are better choices out there, but I could see this being a flash in the pan for certain people. Not great staying power.
What can I say, this is one of my favorite albums. I like every second of it.
Every song sounds the same and that's not a good thing. Without sounding too pretentious, this is music for morons.
Fun listen. I can get why people think it's boring and it is a little long but all in all, a solid album.
Good indie rock. Finally grew on me as a band.
The next four albums are better but still a great debut. Brian Eno brought out the best and weirdest part of them. If not for the rest of their career, this would've been remembered as a fun and forgotten oddity.
This was a refreshing album when it came out, though it does get a little boring. Still a fun listen.
This album is why I use lists like this. So good.
This might hold the record for most songs used in commercials. I mean, sure there's lots of huge songs that I loved when I was 12 but they've almost moved from being songs to something else entirely. I can imagine this being a huge deal when it came out but now it feels old hat.
One of my favorite albums. Lots of hits, album cuts are great, not really any duds.
Pretty good album. Lot of sad sack romantic lines. Honestly, probably doesn't need to be on this list.
I've always felt like this wasn't a punk album, mainly because it's actually good and not just shouting about how hard it is to be 14. It's loaded with great songs, even though usually double albums peter out this one stays strong. I would say this is more ska/rock/pop than punk but it's also a great album.
Sounds a little dated, as all groundbreaking albums tend to. I feel like post punk only got better or maybe I just really like Wire. Passable enough but I don't think I'll be returning to this well.
The only thing I don't like about this album is that you can only listen to it for the first time once. One of the greatest of the 21st century, so much to love about this and not just because I'm from Chicago. The stories are so layered that you can easily put yourself there. The instrumentation is unexpected. Watch the concert from Austin city limits and it's even better.
If this wasn't a double album, this could be his Thriller. It has about the same amount of hits that are still in constant rotation but is bogged down by the deep cuts. That being said, I do love this album and like all those songs.
I can't see what's not to like about this. A perfect album, especially when placed in context with it's release. This has been in steady rotation for me since I first heard it. It's usually something I listen to in private so I can really focus on it. If you can't appreciate this, you don't like music.
One of my favorite albums, the two sides work almost as separate pieces. The second half is definitely more challenging but so worth it. Kate Bush is a genius and this is her masterpiece.
It's fine. Seems like there are better choices out there, but I could see this being a flash in the pan for certain people. Not great staying power.
Once I was in a car with my parents while Black Hole Sun was on the radio and my mom called this music to commit suicide to. How right she was. A much stronger album than I remember it being and I'm not huge on grunge or heavy metal in general.
It's whatever. Not an essential listen.
Not really for me but still highly influential and unique
Way better than I remember. I'm more partial to the softer, album cuts than the over played mega hits. Still too long though, as all double albums are. If this was a tight ten or twelve songs, would be a five star.
I thought I would like this but it feels like I'm trapped in a department store. Every song virtually sounds the same. Not worth being on this list, or really being an album.
Great album! Solid rock grooves, lives up to it's potential. The album that so many wannabes dream of
Holds up way better than almost every other 90s hip hop since there's not skits bogging it down.
Not really my style. It runs on too long and doesn't really progress. I've had tons of friends swear by him but I've never really got it.
Actually better than I expected. Prob not a must listen but not bad. The pussycat song is insane.
Punk sucks. The only nice part of this album was that it was short, competitively.
It's fine
Not bad
Look, I get hating U2. I was there for years, having come up when they were the lamest, most overblown, self important thing on Earth. That's where they stand today. But they had a run of pretty solid albums. Eno and Lanois bring out the best in them. Sure, they're basically Coldplay but a huge hit is that for a reason. This album holds up better than it should, even though it runs it's course as all of their albums do. There's not really a skippable song though.
So I like jazz and I like old country but this just seemed like old pop music. Maybe at the time it was revelatory but it just seemed like old forgotten songs. I would much rather listen to many of the originals.
While Eno and Roxy Music both got better throughout the rest of the decade, this is still a great album. I haven't listened to it in some time and was amazed at how great it still sounds.
I've always just thought this album was okay
Great album. Wu Tang is somehow both huge and under appreciated. They avoid the dumb skits so common in 90s rap, especially in West Coast, in favor of movie samples, which holds up much better. The beats, the flow, the lines, all excellent.
It has it's moments but can't hold up to anything by the Smiths. He's best when he's held back
Some real banger stuff, but kinda runs on too long. This is as prog as I can get
I'm not a huge fan of 90s alternative or grunge or that whole scene in general but whenever I listen to Hole, I'm always surprised at how much I like it. It's the right balance of everything and plays itself better than expected.
This is an album I've come back to many times. It's solid but there's better
Solid stuff, even if there's a few filler tracks
An album that takes time to grow on you. This took me about 5 listens over fifteen years before it clicked and now I suggest it to people who like peak Bob but rightly don't get into the later stuff. Maybe I'm older and more bitter now, but these songs hit.
I get not looking twee but I don't get all the negative reviews from people who never listened to it. With a list this dense, you're going to get overly ambitious twee albums that are more concept than content. I've listened to this a few times in my life and it is a slog to get through. There's a few songs I actually like and listen to on their own but this album, I feel, is mostly remembered for it's length. Had this been just a 45 minute album called love songs, it would've vanished into the twee ether. It's not all that bad, just mostly unmemorable songs.
This is what I got into in high school a good thirty five years later. It does have that optimistic, swaggering quality to it that makes glam rock so identifiable.
This is so overblown and unessential. I'm fine with 70s rock and all but this is just like, nonsense. It's not great, it's not ambitious, it is a product of it's time but that's why the album versions are on this list. This is something the classic rock station plays on Sunday nights to cut costs.
It's so forgettable that I keep forgetting I'm listening to it. It's like being trapped in Walgreens or some off brand department store.
Classic album. Loved it .
It mostly just sounds dated to me. I never really got into the byrds
Seriously one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Great concept, beats, storyline, samples, guests, everything.
What can I say, this is one of my favorite albums. I like every second of it.
I remember when Clint Eastwood came out and my mind was blown. That song still holds up but the rest is kinda mid
The kind of album that was probably really cool at the time but has aged horribly. So boring and just sits there. A staple of horrible "classic" rock stations played between the star spangled banner. I never really liked solo Clapton beyond a handful of songs and none of them are on this. Worse, it's not even offensive. Just bland.
There's a lot of really good albums not on this list and to think they lost out to this white trash garbage. I hated this when it was popular and it's only gotten worse. This is music for morons that are still upset about their high school girlfriend talking to someone else thirty years later.
I can't say every song is a stone cold classic but there are several on this. Electric Ladyland and Band of Gypsies are better albums but Jimi is the epitome of cool
A great album from a man staring into the eyes of death. Way better than anything he had done in a few decades, this took me by surprise when it came out and it still holds up
Not very good. I had never really heard this before and won't be hearing it again
I mean, it's not really my style of music but it's fine. I've listened to this several times over my life and never been into it but also not turned off because my ears are bleeding
I like this album. It's not his best, his most influential, nor his most popular but I think it's a weird, jacked up album.
I don't know. It's fine. The problem inherent in this list is that albums didn't develop until about 1966 so they were looking for something to represent this genre which was basically all singles. This would have been better served by a compilation album of singles, but they opted to not do that. So either stick to essential albums or don't.
I don't get it but I don't think it's made for me
It's better than it should be and better than what they put out after. It's a fun party album even if the vocals are annoying
I liked it. Honestly, the most solid album I've heard by them
I love this album. It sounded great when it came out and sounds great today. I can get not seeing how incredible it is because maybe it only speaks to a certain breed, but man it's good
Not really my cup of tea
It's a great album. Entry level stuff, but classics. Some of the songs aren't as good as the others but still high praise
Relistening to Roxy Music makes me wonder if they're one of the greatest bands of all time. I'm honestly shocked Siren, Stranded, and Avalon aren't on this list when so much other crap is. This is art rock done right. Weird yet accessible. Influential while still being popular in their own way. Shocking while at the same time acting almost lame. I love it.
Solid album. Better then a lot of other slacker rock. They sound great live too.
Started off being indifferent but then the second half really drew me in. I'll probably need to listen to it a few more times before making a good assessment.
Honestly, I've always found this band pretty annoying. Would rather listen to just the Dust Bros without the annoying shouting
It's pretty much like Deep Purple in that it fucking sucks
I mean, at least it has the world's shortest song. Other than that, I hated it.
I thought I might enjoy this, but I did not. Very mediocre and forgettable.
God, 90s hip hop is so overblown and long. Does anyone think there's actually 72 minutes of quality music on this? I mean, it's fine at best. I got news for you buddy
One of the greatest albums of all time. Every time I listen to it, I'm blown away.
One of the greatest. Play it loud and play it often.
It's not my favorite but them. It has a couple good songs. This was the first album I heard by them and feel the same about it since it came out.
So I had to go over to YouTube to get the whole album but it was worth it. I've heard these songs in studio and most them have transcended from just songs to standards but hearing them live in this setting with the crowd going absolutely nuts and the band killing it made me wish I was there.
I used to love this album. Listened to it non-stop. Now, I'm pretty tired of it. It's not bad, it's dated, it's Lennon. The snide digs at Paul and thinking the whole world revolves around him work better at 12 than they do decades later. Mixed feelings between a 3 and a 4.
It's okay. Moving out is probably the best song. The rest is kinda just background music.
So I already don't like 80s hip hop for the most part and bringing in Aerosmith, who sucks, in doesn't help. It really feels like this was made for suburban teens to feel cool. I don't like it. People lose their mind when some of these songs come on but I don't get it. It really all sounds the same. I guess you can call it influential but most of what this spawned kinda sucks too.
Kinda lacking on hits. It's good, not he's a singles guy.
So way better than I expected. Not just some mindless punk or sludge album. You never really know where each track is going. I'll take weird any day of the week. The blending of styles and samples worked really well.
I've never actually sat down and listened to this album before. All the jokes about their songs sounding the same are true. Extremely mid. I'm honestly not even sure why they're still popular decades later. Not even mid, pretty bad and stupid.
Its a good album. I feel like they got better but this is still an indie classic.
One of the few albums I loved as a kid that I still can listen and actually love. It's really good. I get that they sold out and it's a dorm room poster band but to deny that it's anything short of perfect is absurd. Sure Animals and Wish You Were Here are maybe more ambitious but only because they set their own stage with this. People also sleep on Meddle.
You know, I can see why people wouldn't like this. I don't like the sex pistols at all but this I can get behind. It's weird, spooky, different and that's what I want my music to be.
I've never really listened to her before but I enjoyed it. It's probably not gonna get into my heavy rotation but it's nice for a rainy Sunday afternoon to read to.
Pretty good. Takes me back to when I listened to stuff like this almost exclusively in high school. It never really stuck with me but whenever I hear it again, it makes me feel young, in love, and heartbroken. Good stuff.
It's an okay record. Definitely over hyped. It's something your aunt says she loves and you can't find it in you to criticize so you let it play out because really it's not that bad and not worth bringing down someone's joy of it.
Good gloom. Whenever I hear a forest,I think of how I saw the Cure live in 2016 and how it was in a different key and even more slowed down so he could sing it well. It's a good album but they only got better
Better than most 80s and early 90s hip hop but that's a pretty low bar. On the whole, pretty forgettable except for the lead off track which I'll throw on at parties occasionally. Not really worth the rest of the album.
I love Kate Bush but this isn't my favorite. Most of the stuff doesn't really stick except for this woman's work. I'm sure if I listen to it more, it'll become one of my favorites but out the gate, eh
I like this album. It's weird. I wouldn't put it on at a party so I'm confused as to why it's like club music. This is like summer driving music to me. I've listened to it early morning, afternoon, evening, it works. But I like this kinda repetitive, synthy, dark stuff
It's a classic swing album
It's Revolver. Not my favorite by them so I'm judging more harshly. I feel like they only got better.
Great, great album. I haven't listened to it in years and it's even better
Not as good as Paranoid but still good
Really good album. I throw it on occasionally and I'm always satisfied
Great album. Super influential. Could even be longer
I'm torn between a 4 and 5. It's really good. I just don't think people get how good it is.
Easiest 5. Incredible performance.
I dated a girl that tried to convince me the Kings of Leon were actually good. I don't think I've ever actually gotten through an entire song without my eyes glazing over. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it's so incredibly mediocre. I'd actually rather it was bad so you could say they suck. Instead they just exist.
Look, you don't count sides 5&6. And even if you did, that's better than almost every other shitty ass jam band or psychedelic freak out album. Arguably the greatest double album of all time. The sound is warm, the songs are great, the band is comfortable.
Solid album
The hits are fine. I've never really been into them.
Dated and boring. Neil Young was always better solo and the rest was dull.
Easy 5. Doesn't need a review.
It's a classic. By far his best work. Great concept album that also has singles. This was huge when it came out and still holds up.
Side one is perfect. Unskippable. Side two is only great in comparison. I get why some people would find it dated but I think this is the strongest CS&N were with Young only getting better.
About the only psychedelic music I actually enjoy. It's a strange album.
Eh, I feel like good kid and damn are better. This seems too overblown
Stellar album. One of my favorites. This never really comes out of rotation and every time I hear I'm like, wow this is really good
One of the most overrated bands ever. Being "technically" good is just code for really, really boring. Aja is better but this really shouldn't be on any list.
I think I like live at cook county jail better but still great
I mean, it's a classic. To diminish it by being edgy or refusing to listen is asinine. It's one of the first real albums and really it's closer to country than r&b. This is the album that launched a thousand bands. It's dated and he's more of a singles guy anyway but it's still great.
If you don't like this album, then you really have no business on this journey. This is experimental, different, and incredible.
Tom got better once he stopped trying to be a weird jazzman and started just being a weirdo. This goes on for way too long. It's not bad, it's just thirty minutes in you get it and nothing really changes.
I mean, I'm a sucker for this kind of music especially since I've never listened to them. I remember them being a big buzzy band in the press at the time but I never liked punk. It's not bad. I think I'm just excited to hear something new because I feel like this list has mostly just given me stuff I know.
It's a banger album. Couple of slow tracks to mellow it out but overall great
One of my favorites. This is required listening
Seeing these reviews mention growth makes me wonder what it grew from. It's like if your fungal infection is spreading and being like, well it's showing signs of growth. I hated this.
Super solid album. Good grooves. Nice flow.
Torn between a 4 & 5. They're not technically that good but man it grooves so hard. I don't like punk but this is just enough that it works. It's different than others albums.
I mean, it's good but outside of the hits I feel it's a little redundant.
Johnny Cash is one of those guys that somehow gets a pass for most people. The "I don't like country but Johnny Cash is good" crowd. I mean, this isn't even really country. The album that sent a bunch of boomers to Potbelly's to play covers. There's better country, there's better albums, there's just not a whole lot here. It also seems like a big cash grab
When this came out, everyone went crazy for it. I tried listening to it then and was extremely bored. I did not get it at all. I was a big odd future guy and he was with them. The only song I really liked was super rich kids. Listening to it now, I feel the same way. I don't get why this was so revolutionary. There was a whole genre of r&b that sounded just like this and I also found boring. I still see people posting about listening to this album and crying. I don't get it.
Is there a band more overrated than Queen? Tight race with Billy Joel for biggest hacks out there. They heard original idea men David Bowie and Elton John and said, let's do that but way way worse and more annoying and then we can pretend we're artistic. It fucking sucks.
Let's be real, this is where he fell off. Could good tracks but nothing from his golden era.
Torn between 4&5. It's really good so I'm leaning towards 5 since pretty much every song rocks. They're overplayed and over blown but man are they good. I was so into this growing up that I tend to stay away from it because it's lost it's magic. But it really is great.
I hate most prog rock but this isn't bad. Some good guitar vamping that thirty five years later became a whole genre. I don't like the vocals. I once called Yes the band that will get you laid the least.
Okay so it's pretty good. Tres hombres is better. People hate them because they became popular but isn't that the goal?
It's not punk, which is good. Weird indie post punk vibes. Not bad for an album I've never heard before. Might actually end up in the rotation.
I've always dumped on this album because they only got better but after sitting down and listening to it start to finish, wow it's way better than I remember. And it's still not even a top five album by them for me.
It's got a couple jams you've heard about twenty million times before. The rest is whatever.
Torn between a 4&5. I loved this album for years and saw them live too many times to count. Coming back to it, it's still really good. It meanders a bit towards the end though. It sounds great. I think I talked myself into the 5.
Yeah I mean, it's cool.
Y'all ain't twee? I mean, I can understand not liking her voice or the flute but it be what it be. You just gotta be cut from a certain cloth.
It was okay. If it was fifteen or twenty minutes shorter, it might end up in my rotation but the theme and vibe didn't really change for almost an hour.
This album rocks. Classic albums can be overrated but this hits.
The problem with this list is that not all of these albums are equal. I'm not saying that because I don't like punk or metal or whatever but that they seemed to scramble for the last couple decades, loading it up with albums that were popular for two weeks or whatever and just middling rock music. And then the fifties albums are all like stone cold classics. This is a list that should've given itself more parameters, maybe nothing could be added till it had been around for ten or so years. That way they could reflect more and have more brilliant albums such as this.
People like this? I've tried to listen to this to get it maybe once a decade and every time come away feeling like, wow this is so lame and stupid. Boring, lame, uninteresting. Hard pass.
Sometimes a pop album catches you so off guard with the quality that it makes you rethink what you know. There's so many high quality, catchy songs on this album that it's no wonder everyone knows them. There's also a weird, dark underside to many of the songs. Maybe it's because the singers don't really speak English but it seems very universal.
This is the third Nick Cave album I've gotten. I'm not a huge fan of him, nor do I think he warrants having six albums on this list. This album was super whatever. Can't say I'm a fan or that it was interesting. The album cover pretty much tells you all you need. Ugly, under thought, dated.
I like really don't wanna be one of those people that like U2 but you can't ignore their power. This album rules. Start to finish. Super post punk, angry at the world, cool guitars and drums.
CCR is one of the very few bands I've loved and listened to my entire life and never felt burnt out on. Yeah it's kinda cheesy and overplayed but it's really good. They released a ton of killer material in only three years and it's staying power is incredible. Bands are still trying to sound like this.
A very important jazz album. Not one of my go tos but I'll throw it on occasionally and be happy
Not bad. Never listened to it before. It's less weird bjork, which is good. Prob won't be working it's way into the rotation.
It's fine. Kinda repetitive with nothing really standing out. Good background music. I wish one of the songs had like a big pop moment similar to the Weeknd but it all seemed like deep album cuts.
You're allowed one Yes album. This is not it.
Solid album. I come back to this from time to time. It grooves. Summer breeze is great.
This was way better than I remember. First side is all hits. Second side is mostly hits. Very catchy but also borders on very annoying at parts. I'll throw this on at a party.
I guess I really like world music. This was a really good album. Definitely will be coming back to.
I don't think I like rap anymore.
Bunch more crowd work than I expected. Really felt like a show as opposed to a concert.
It's just okay. Rick James had better stuff. So did Prince. And the Isley Brothers. Maybe it was a game changer at the time but it's got like three tracks I'd come back to and the rest is fine.
Weird album. I bought this for like six bucks in college and it's a treasured find. For real fans.
This generator is so bizarre. I get two albums by this guy in a week. That being said, Lam Toro was much more inventive with the blending of beats. This is a much more straight forward world album.
So will I be listening to this a lot? Probably not. Is it better than I expected? Yes. It's sort of like the anti Blackstar. I was torn between a 3 & 4 because it is good but like, I'm not going to listen frequently. I'll rate it the same as Blackstar.
I don't like Public Enemy I've learned. Maybe it was crazy at the time but it's like not good at all
Not my favorite album by him but I do throw it on from time to time. I really want to give this a three but it's almost more of a vibes album than a song album. It's very warm and autumn feeling. I don't really ever need to hear Tiny Dancer again though.
Great album. Everytime I listen to this, I feel excited because of how good it is.
Good album. Ambient with singles.
Solid rock album. I hadn't really listened to them before but I'll throw this on sometimes.
Dumb album. I never liked Muse. The comparisons to Queen are fitting since they're both hacks.
Why make an hour long album whining about how you don't care about what you think about them? Clearly, you do. It's like sitting at a bar and listening to the white trash complain about their ex. Just get over it.
I mean, it rules.
One of those albums that you just can't put down. Side A is all killer. Side B is great. Such a warm sounding album.
Good ass rock album
It's overrated for sure. Some great songs, some forgettable. This is what pretentious people play in college to complain about how this city doesn't get them.
Good album. It rocks
It just sounds like Damon. Not bad but not great.
Somehow better than most bjork shit but still pretty bad. Parts of it sound cool but then I realized I was just thinking of how much more I like panda bear. Will not be listening to again
I don't really get the hype around Dusty. She's not a great album artist and I would really rather listen to Aretha.
This is closer to solo Morrissey. Louder than bombs would've been a better choice.
This was so banal I'm not sure why it ever was on this list. I don't remember any of these songs. She's clearly trying to do an Amy Winehouse thing that really never caught on.
Extremely dull album. Nothing stood out. And the breathy voice thing got old fast. They should really wait like five or ten years before adding anything to this list because nobody is going to be listening to this in the future.
One of the greatest
Wow this album rocks. I have been a passive fan of Wilco but this is really good. Def will end up in rotation.
I just got really like Leonard Cohen that much. It all kinda sounds the same. After like three songs, I get bored.
I think it's kind of overrated but I still like it. It's got it's time and it's place.
I don't like the last like four songs on this but the rest is great and cancels that out. Actually it's grown on me more over the years
Man this shit sucks. There's two good songs and then a bunch of nonsense.
It's not bad. Kinda dated but it's a vibe
