I enjoyed some of it, but other parts were offputting and the whole thing was tinged with pretentiousness.

I realised while listening that I'd only ever heard one aspect of Elvis's voice before, the baritone that everyone seems to impersonate. I never expected his voice to be so versatile though, there's a few songs on the album that wouldn't have even guessed were him. His voice is very playful and at times almost cartoonish, very surprising. The emotional trajectory of the album was quite interesting too, starting out with cocky and upbeat songs about appealing to women, outlining his standards for a relationship, then deep in the midst of love, before the lyrics start showing cracks leading to a 2nd half about heartbreak and finally cynicism.

Interesting to hear their clear 80s influence here. At times I felt like I was listening to The Police or The Cure or something. In one song (The Refugee) I was even reminded of Kate Bush, and I imagined that they could have hung out and talked about concept albums and character pieces. A deeper sound than I expected, and quite a fun listen overall.

It's a pleasant listen for sure, but to me its sensual aesthetic felt too detached. There was some emotional sincerity in there, but at times the emotion felt undermined by kitsch. I can easily see why people would love an album like this but it's just not for me, I need more substance. I couldn't see anything that the album was trying to say, but maybe they weren't saying anything at all. I wanted to give up and not even finish it.
I suppose I found it a little interesting to consider its links to grunge and Kurt Cobain, but beyond that I was quite bored by this album. Some of the lyrics and guitar playing seemed oddly amateurish. I don't have much to say about it.
Incredible album, one of my favourites.
I can't relate to the Red Hot Chili Peppers at all. Not my thing, though a few catchy songs and good instrumentals.
I didn't really get it.

Great stuff. I wasn't expecting to be reminded of Hiroshi Yoshimura's album 'Green' when I got this DnB generation, but it was a pleasant surprise. Very energetic while remaining soft and melodic, I'll most likely be listening to this one again.
Fun album
I wasn't expecting to hear such overt Christian themes in this album
Quite bland and lacking variation, though I was pleasantly surprised to hear a cover of a song by The Cure on there.
A very dark, almost cursed feeling album.
Not very interesting. Sultans of Swing is definitely the best song on this.
I never knew he did pretty much all of the instrumentation and production himself, which is incredible. A great album, you could easily tell someone this was a modern release and they'd believe it.
I didn't really understand or enjoy it. Was originally going to give it a 2 because I was struggling, but the 2nd half bumped it to a 3
A real slog to get through
