i liked the organ. fun jazz rock. i could do without the cheesy callouts to other tracks. also the satie themes.
really liked it. kind of boring in the middle though
sorry paul this isnt for me
short, inoffensive blues rock. not quite the direction i expected the band to take after the first two albums
a real easy listen in 2025. nowhere near as challenging as bitches brew, but just as enjoyable.
I'd rather listen to Rio. middle and end of the album is a chore
i dont want to just hand out 5/5s but this is actually amazing
easiest listen yet. not bad though
i think late 2010s - early 2020s music primed me to like 80s music more
loved this album since hearing it for the first time in college. crazy it came out in 91
honestly liked it more than morrison hotel. though it feels a lil weird bc it clearly sounds like a drugged up white woman trying to sound like a black woman
i just wish it was noisier
cool album. a bit too theatrical for me. reminded me of bowie
eclectic. dont think its his best work tho
cool stuff. never had the chance to check them out but liked it much more than i expected to.
i dont think this aged all too well. sounds somewhere in between soundcloud and flight of the conchords.
it has money for nothing so it cant be a 1
nicely executed but id rather be listening to the beatles or simon and garfunkel
kids in williamsburg wish they sounded half as good as bert
nice and progressive for its time. 3.5
kinda preachy but good. better than sex pistols but johnny rotten is still not my fav vocalist
cool stuff. punky and thrashy. aged infinitely better than the sex pistols
theater kids of the world unite!
it good but stories gooder
never a bad time to skank
there is no way a pop act today can pull off this side b
the noise is great. but turns out there is such a thing as too much lo-fi
easy. tried a bunch of genres but others have done those sounds much better
first half is banging. id rather be listening to bcnr tho. 3.5
aged surprisingly well. 3.5
75 minutes of fred durst that i cant get back
1001 albums dads must listen to feel validated about their music tastes. 1.5
title track is a bit overrated but overall this is beautiful work.
deserves a relisten. the kind of sound that wont feel dated for a long time. 3.5
as good as a full blues album can get
conflicted about this one. they can obviously all play, but it sounds to me like 30 minutes of ringo songs. somewhere between 2 and 4.
dylan and cohen could not have prepared me for this mans voice.
pleasant, though i can hear the beginnings of future bands that i hate. 3.5
shouldve cut the fluff and kept it 45 mins
i thought the high paced songs up front were corny but the slower stuff later on are somehow even cornier
malkmus can have my firstborn child
slash is great! axl rose is great at times. really tight debut album. if im feeling particularly grumpy i could see this album slipping to a 2-2.5 due to axl being annoying. 3.5
im sure it's important. 2-
the album that convinced spongebob that mr krabs is a robot
rock opera can be good, actually
a bad free dessert doesnt make a bad meal. 4.5.
it would be cool to listen to a rawer version, a la let it be naked
i like rhps. but the kitschy tongue in cheek fun of the film is lost without, well, the film.
please, robert, i dont need more inches of your love
this album could kill a small victorian child
love the guitar tone. too long for a genre that i admittedly dislike.
no many can stay schizoid after listening to this album
6 more beers should do it
i probably wouldve loved this in college
idt i can rate d&b but i thoroughly enjoyed it
lol why did i spend my 8th grade listening to Im the Man by Anthrax?
some good songs but there are better punk records from the era.
i mean yeah it's maggot brain
there is a great album underneath the mix. i wanna hear more of the guitar and the bass
listens like a proto-thievery corporation, even though they are from the same era. enjoyable
bookends are great, but the slower songs are not doing it for me. 3.5
christmas is a good time for the wall of sound
competent playing, but the vocals and songwriting arent all too inspiring
sex music for 50 year old white men with 23 year old filipina wives
i apologize blur i was not familiar with your game
long, but engaging. i should check out more wilco beyond schmilco
good album for a long road trip
cool, but dated. could do without the narration
yes, it's a cover album. yes, the production kinda sounds like a karaoke machine. but somehow everything comes together as a nice, warm package. 3.5
van halen gone pop. it's fine but id rather be listening to black sabbath or their debut
generic dad rock with ok vocals
tbh i started this project expecting to find more gems like this one. all the stars
this is a noise rock album. the good: i love noise rock. the bad: the noise on this album is subpar. the ugly: the rock is bad.
5/5 side A and a 2/5 side B
catchy. i really dont mind his voice
less theatrical than their subsequent releases, and dare i say more approachable despite the harshness. 4.5
not crazy about the strings or the ballads. i prefer sail away or little criminals
fun, veers a bit too close to hair metal for me. 3.5
there are bangers but its just so long
great folk rock. harmonies are tight, and just sweet enough without verging into kitschy arena rock territory. i do find the head voice/falsetto thing a little grating from time to time
some cute songs, but syd needs the band i fear
banger intro into middling new wave.
cool weird folk album. wouldve liked it more if i liked his voice a bit more. reminds me of bombay bicycle club dude. 3.5
maybe im in a better mood today. liked it better than sheer heart attack, though my general vibes about the music stayed the same. 2.5
man we shouldn't have ordered the appetizers
acoustic stuff is neat. hard rock of this era sounds more kitschy every day
some good songs, but veers too theatrical. a big eh. 2.5
man im sure itd be better if i had a boat. 3.5
loved this in hs/college. still a lot of fun. 3.5
sorry billy i wasnt familiar with your game (minus the saxophone. or everybody has a dream, which might be the worst song ive heard through this project)
somewhere between the beach boys and the beatles there lies an uncanny valley where the kinks reside
Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray!
funky, but too smooth for me. probably the lightest 4 i have given yet
great drums. albarn veers close to radiohead with little success.
the weird one. i know they wanted to be nice but they really shouldnt have given ringo a song
this album caught me during a pop rock kick. i was ready for a quick 4/5 after the first song. unfortunately there are duds on this album and they hit like a truck. the iron man cover rules though fuck the haters
Growing pains album for the Beatles. It sits awkwardly between the cutesy, if derivative Please Please Me and a much more defined sound of Hard Days Night. All My Loving is such a banger though
a few standout tracks, and a lil long. the genre doesnt do anything for me
cool debut that sounds part beach boys and part beatles. tough acts to be compared to. 2.5
strong. i still prefer their later work
it sounds so good!!! wait, who's album is this? ice cube? the actor? the black israelite?? the racist whisperer???
tight, but closer to elevator music than to any kind of statement
cool piano work. happy to have listened to another bowie
some cool songs, but even i have to admit that these post punk records are starting to sound samey. 3.5
gotta respect the scope. there are certainly good parts, but they are almost always followed up by inexplicable choices. they try so hard to sound like bowie; it's a shame that they sound the best when they sound nothing like bowie.
didnt think id like this this much. sultry done in the coolest way.
i can see why people think yorke and co. have their heads up their asses. mine just happens to be right in there with them.
one of the few i have on vinyl. a classic
one of the best ways to get any audio setup to sound like a Motorola RAZR
soundtrack to my middle school years. second half is a drag though. 3.5
they somehow picked all the good songs out of their "best of" compilation album and put it on their debut
cash sounds great. the live audience actively takes away from the experience. good thing future live recordings learned restraint.
did YOU know rock can ORCHESTRA? did you KNOW orchestra can ROCK??
they try so hard to be grand and flush but they just dont have the songwriting or arranging chops for it. actively grating for a lot of the 70 minute runtime. generous 2
it's kind of kickass, but only for so long. after 30 minutes it all jumbles into a kitschy blob akin to KISS. yuck. sides A and B are both 4 star EPs, that together make a 3. 3.5
it was a revelation when this dropped in (maybe just after?) college. he stepped up big with scope and managed to deliver. was an immediate AOTY contender for me. 4.5
i had always assumed that they were a saccharine acoustic coffeeshop duet. delightfully surprised. easy listening in a pretty velvet underground kind of way
actually hated the first 10 minutes. bog standard conscious hip hop that gets 6th graders going. but the project really sheds its cringe and gets pretty tight by the end
admittedly my favorite sufjan record. amazingly lush and pretty but hard to keep engaged for the entirety of 75 minutes.
