Not a fan of live albums, so had to skip.

Loved every second of this. Such a great stage presence and an amazing sound. I've listened to this album before, but it had been a while.

Pretty great album. I don't see the appraise that critics gave, but I also believe the other reviewers on this site underestimate the work. There's a lot of passion and drive into these songs... Much better than the studio versions although not as polished. I wish there was more audience participation or something. Doesn't feel like much of a live album otherwise...

Finally, some good guitar work in this 1001 album run. The first time I've ever sat down with Thin Lizzy. This is one of the best mixed live records I have ever heard. The bass is actually audible and the vocals don't drown everything out. Emerald is riff city. Rosalie is a Seger cover for a nice addition. Sounds like glory days rock and roll.

Vocalist leaves a lot to be desired. Dancing in the moonlight has a cool van Morrison feel and sax. Meh.

TBH, will never revisit, though I hear more Hendrix in here than I'd ever like to give the band credit.

One of the better live albums I’ve heard. The bob seger cover song and combination of songs from multiple albums make it worthwhile. If it wasn’t live it’d be great but overall I still liked it. 7.5/10

No me parece que tengan mucho carisma, como actuación en vivo tampoco tiene nada de especial y las canciones en muchas ocasiones son muy genéricas. Hay solos de guitarra molones. No lo he pasado mal escuchándolo, pero no me ha dicho gran cosa más allá.

Surprised to see a live album but i liked it

Pretty boring, sounds like generic rock music to me.

Not sure what this being live does to make the album better. There's not an extra energy that the lead singer seems to bring; in fact he doesn't really sound excited at all. Apparently, it also isn't even all live, as the sound has been "cleaned up," which I don't understand. Again, what's the point of this being live?

An album to respect but hard to admire. The band are clearly talented musicians but I didn’t feel a spark with these songs - which feels especially strange for a supposed live album. Almost too polished - not quite rough enough. There are better examples of their style of hard rock...

Some classic dueling guitars, and the singer is talented, but most of the songs fell flat for me. I prefer the dips into metal, though The Boys are Back in Town is classic.

I knew some of the songs. It was a good live show.

Rollicking good time. Surprised how much I like this band! I'm glad to discover so much beyond "The Boys Are Back in Town." Also, I always thought they were American. That voice sounds like a cross between Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen, and lyrics have a similar quality to many of their songs.. But it turns out they're Irish, which just interests me more.

A very compelling live performance of music I find less compelling. Some great songs in here, Thin Lizzy just never grabbed and held my attention.

Love the double lead guitars. While the vocals don't blow you away, they are always dependable. Appreciate the overall musicality of the compositions.

Quite a good album. I don’t normally enjoy live albums but this one went over really well. They definitely have a lot of great hits and a good presence. I’ve enjoyed a lot of their songs in the past and could see myself enjoying more.

Such a fun album. Great performance, too. Still In Love With You is a brilliant song and the drum solo on Sha-La-La is fantastic.

I guess this could be just the right album for a really specific moment where I'm driving a convertible Trans-Am and reliving a scene from Dazed and Confused, but most of the time, it's not what I want to listen to.

Definitely seemed born to be a live album. I felt fully immersed. Loved every song but Massacre imparticular. Lovely break in the middle before it picks back up for the 2nd half. The transition into The Boys Are Back In Town was * French Kiss * A flawless experience.

Was surprised to see a live album on here, I can see why it has made it onto the list. Was very long though and I didn't really get into it

Awesome album. Such a distinctive sound both musically and vocally. Dancing in the moonlight is the best song amongst many great songs. It kind of reminded me of a Van song, who was idolised by Phil Lynott and whose bandmates in Them, later joined Thin Lizzy.

Urgh, stupid live albums. Why?? The songs actually seemed really good. The studio versions of the songs would have maybe received a 5 from me, a 4 for sure. Might listen to some non-live Thin Lizzy later.

Certainly fun rock, and the singer has some swagger to him. Nothing that is keeping me coming back, however.

One of the greatest live albums?

I'm not a fan of this one. There is so much guitar/bass/drums music from the 70s, I really had enough of it. I can only remember fondly or listen to G/B/D bands that had something really special (originality or virtuoso musicians). And this isn't the case with this group and album. Yeah the guitar, bass and drums are good but there are many better and moreover there is nothing original about the instrument playing or songwriting that makes me want to keep listening. The 70s had guitar phenoms so good they could that they could make a band that's not original stand out. Jimmy Page was so good he made Led Zep good. (Overplayed to the point I can't listen to them anymore but that's another story). The guitars don't get Thin LIz there. The bass player is also good but what is he doing that Entwistle hadn't done years earlier and a lot better? The drummer's slapping the gong at the end of Southbound puts a cherry on my point that they are followers rather than leaders. I thought even Kiss was ringing the gong before Thin Liz. How embarrassing is that? I'm was a little surprised to learn there are two guitar players but I did hear duelling solos. This would have been fun to see in concert but having two guitars also gives the opportunity for consistently good rhythm and there is really not much rhythm guitar to get excited about. I planned to listen until they played Boys are Back in Town but ended up listening to it all. Unfortunately, I was reminded of the worst part of 70s rock concerts: the tiresome drum solo. The 2+ minutes of TL's drum solo are minutes I will not get back and could've spent listening to more of the 1001 albums I need to listen to. Fothermucker! Apologies to any TL fans out there. Also apologies in advance to fans of "The Song Remains the Same" if that's on the 1001. That bad boy will get max 1 star based solely on the length of the drum solo.

Eipä tähänkään oikein ajan hammas ole purrut. Eniten häiritsi se, että tämä on jopa hyvin kliininen livelevyksi. Sen verran wikipedioin, että levy oli koostettu useamman keikan tallenteista. Lisäksi levyä varten oli jonkin verran äänitetty osuuksia päälle studiossa, mutta siitä miten paljon, oli erilaisia näkemyksiä. Vähän taas helppo nelonen tällaiselle very best of the best tallenteelle. Hyvällä mielellä nelonen taas siksi, että The Boys Are Back tuo aina mieleen Vintiöiden sketsit.

3.0 - Admittedly, I struggled to keep an open mind with this one. I'm not a huge fan of that 70s cock rock sound and I generally don't prefer live albums. And why are Irish lads singing “Cowboy Song” and about motorcycle gangs? The album captures a band that's clearly honed their stage act and mastered their sound, but it’s a sound that I don’t love.

Nice compact power pop songs. Straight up, not over indulgent, good sound for a live recording. I was only familiar with the big hits but the other songs stand up well.

Tons of fun and energy. Classic glam rock sound, Irish. Amazing guitar. Surprisingly good quality for a live album.

Das ist Hard Rock, und genau das will er sein. Jedes (von ihm selbst geschaffene) Klischee bedienen, wahnsinnig authentisch. Und dabei auch noch sehr gut eingefangener Live-Sound. Dem Proletarier in mir zucken die Luftgitarrenfinger, dem Snob gerinnt das spöttische Grinsen zum Gesichtskrampf. Emerald verursacht mir schon zu Beginn Unbehagen, Southbound direkt danach find ich nen ehrlichen Rocker. Hier gilt es auszubalancieren und dabei nicht mit den Eiern auf dem Drahtseil zu landen. Ok, es geht weiter mit Klischees: ehrlicher Rock, Schweiss, Pathos, auch mal ein Saxophon. Klaus-Lage-Feelings. Und schlimme Balladen dürfen natürlich nicht fehlen für die Jungs und Mädchen und ihre Mitesser. Den Eiern gehts noch gut, aber dicker werden sie nun gerade nicht. Apropos Dicke Eier: Warriors und das Drumsolo in Sha-La-La (!) find ich dann doch wieder ganz geil, auf ihre Art und mit meinem inneren Pickelteenie. Am Ende siegt aber doch der Snob, fürchte ich. 2,9 Punkte, die sich aber leider trotzdem nur nach 2 Sternen anfühlen.

Really fun listen. I don't think I knew any songs but "the boys are back in town". Great energy on all of the tracks.

Too hair metal-ish for me, but must admit, more tolerable to listen to than other similar songs of the genre.

Har ikke hørt dette live-albumet før. Men for et album! Fantastisk(!) åpning med Jailbreak. Tipper litt over mot litt kjedelig blues til tider, men henter seg mesterlig inn med diamanter som Cowboy Song, Warriors og The Rocker.

Rocks hard. Better than studio versions

I’ve never really listened to much Thin Lizzy, but this seems like the kind of concert I could have gone to and had a good time regardless of that fact. Pretty standard 80s rock, but still fun. I’m going to exclude “Jailbreak” and “The Boys Are Back In Town” from below and focus more on the songs I didn’t know. Favorite Tracks: “Emerald,” “Massacre,” and “Baby Drives Me Crazy”

Oh boy, another live album. I would’ve loved an actual Thin Lizzy project. The irony here is that the songs I love (“Jailbreak” and “The Boys are Back in Town”) aren’t the ones I liked on this because I just prefer the studio version. A couple tracks I did enjoy, that I hadn’t heard before, but as a matter of principle I can’t give this a high rating. Live albums are a paradox, and, with few exceptions, I don’t think they should exist. Favorite tracks: Still in Love With You, Sha-La-La. Album art: Ooooh a picture of the band performing live! I wonder what it sounds like? 2.5/5

Semibängeri Slässic Hard rock

Such an awesome live album. The energy was absolutely incredible and the pure rock atmosphere was something to imagine when listening away. Sweet sweet sweet guitar riffs and some awesome rocking ballads. Would highly recommend.

Glorious, seemingly effortless hard rock. Some absolute classic tracks. Fave track - on this play through, "Massacre" really jumped out at me. Tends to get overshadowed by their more well known tunes, but it landed for me this time...

Really enjoyed this. This was great driving music.

I wasn’t sure I would like this, since it’s listed as hard rock, but I actually like it pretty well. I wonder if maybe I just like the 70s more than I thought, since I’d not had as much opportunity to listen to it growing up. Like I think the 70s hard rock is different from the 80s and even the 60s.

every song sounds the same

These are fun songs, but I generally find live albums kind of lame and this is no exception. By the end I was thoroughly bored of it. Feels more like a "fan favorite" for hardcore Thin Lizzy fans than a true classic to me.

I tend to not love live albums unless there is something really unique in the performance. This one, being a double album, I found to drag on a bit toward the end. I liked the 4 song run between "Dancing in the Moonlight" and "Johnny the Fox," gravitating more toward the slower songs.

I wish there was a video version of this. Pretty good for a live version on these songs. I feel like this is the type of music that sounds amazing in person but back on the computer I'm like... ehhh. I only knew "The Boys are Back in Town", which I didn't even know that was Thin Lizzy.

Don't really like classic rock

I neither enjoyed nor didn't enjoy this. It was just sort of there, doing it's thing, not really garnering much attention from me. I know these songs, they do nothing for me.

There were a few standout tracks. Jailbreak, Boys, and the covers were great, but most of the others were not exceptional. The dual guitar work was incredible though.

At first I was thinking I don’t want an hour+ live 70s rock album. Then I was thinking actually this kind of shreds and is super tight. Then I got a bit bored because it’s an hour+ live 70s rock album. Then I read that it’s a combination of different gifs and studio overdubs, which really detracts from how “tight” I thought it was. Aaah 3 stars even though I didn’t finish it.

Really fun, one track really made me think of David Gilmore!

a good rockin time, first listen to any thin lizzy which is weird considering how i grew up on this kinda music but i dig it, lean more toward the heavier stuff but the blues rock numbers are nice too. good energy and really good mixing

A live Thin Lizzy album is not high on my list of things I want to listen to. The music is pretty middle of the road and this album lacked the energy of most good live albums. Turns out, that's because Thin Lizzy straight up cheated and overdubbed a bunch of the parts after the fact. So it's only kinda live. The result is a the audio equivalent of flat beer. You can taste what it should be and it'll deliver alcohol... But it's just not enjoyable.

A double live album that's pulled from several different shows and later overdubbed is bound to be rather unenjoyable, and that's before considering that it's mediocre 70s rock. I have no idea how this made anybody's list of essential albums. Completely disposable. Best track: Massacre

Songs are kind of just fine, sound pretty good but nothing stands out that much, guitars decent, good quality for a live album This rendition of The Boys are Back in Town is a bit iffy (as are the vocals on a few other songs) A bit repetitive in sound have had to skim through the second half Faves - Jailbreak, Massacre Overall - Okay!
