This album is naaaasty, its rude, mean, loud, and just weird. Pretty cool listen, will definitely come back
There's just some phenomenal riffs on here, the technical guitar work is stellar. The only thing that I really can fault this album for is that I find some of the songs are hard to differentiate from one another, they sort of just blend into this thrashy hull in the middle without much to really set them apart
not bad, but fairly bland to me. had a hard time really differentiating these tracks or getting into them on a larger level...could be bad headphones though
Pretty cool album, I like the concept, the satire, his voice, and songwriting. Good album
Smack My Bitch Up is such a banger of a track, incredible intro. There's some fun tracks on here, but in general they feel pretty formulaic and tends to become pretty one note for me. If you're in the mood could see it but not something I'd return to regularly. Had heard this before.
One of the truly great hip hop albums, masterful beats, lyrics, and skits. One of my favorite southern rap albums
Very technically gifted, jammy yacht rock. Not sure that it's all hitting very strong but there are some fun feel good tracks here.
This is my first new one! Woohoo! Pretty fun album, I was missing a bit of the larger concepts but this was an enjoyable pop rock listen. I like this more than lots of Beatles and similar stuff from this era. This honestly goes!

I was not ready for how diverse this album was going to be, wow. Never had heard the name before. A lot of these tracks I don't think I would ever particularly want to return to but it's interesting enough. I liked the skits tying things together like it's a radio broadcast. There are some BAD songs on here though. Duck for the Oyster, Punk It Up and Merengue I felt were particularly weak.
Not looking forward to this one greatly, I'm largely not a fan of country but that's the point of this challenge really, to expose myself to new music and find things I hadn't heard before so we go on. The guitar playing on here is strong, and I don't dislike the songs much, but I am put off by the large amount of twang in the vocals, which just has never sat particularly well with me. The more upbeat tracks I do enjoy, Streets of Bakersfield, Floyd County. Usually I rate albums on how much I would want to return to something and the emotions it evokes in me. Not feeling much here either way, I'm not sure if I'll ever listen to this again but there's a kind of endearing nature to this homely, sad cowboy.
These tracks are soft and warm, but loaded with emotion, as the title may suggest. Each song is filled with this deep passion of love or hate, crafting a very emotional and personal album. I think the only thing I really felt missing from this album was something to help fill out the sound. There were tastes of backing vocals, but i think some orchestral components or piano could have filled this out beyond just the acoustic and his voice
Of course there's the classic single at the head of this, great track that really hasn't worn on me despite hearing it on the radio all the time. I haven't heard the rest of the album though. Wtf this is beautiful. I always assumed that American Pie was the most mellow of the tracks, but it seems its actually the most upbeat of the tracks. Vincent is lovely, albeit heartbreaking. These songs may run together a little towards the end, and the album loses some pace, but don's got a very nice voice, and some really nice folk story like telling of mid 70s America.
Not loving this one. Anthony's Song and The Stranger bang but like...the back 3/4 of this album are ballads and are a bit boring imo without a lot to pull you through the end of the album, lots of energy lost quickly after the stranger. But still I love his voice and they're good arrangements.
I struggle with Tom Waits, and this album in particular. I like it well enough, and can see why people really like it, but I find Tom pretty annoying. His voice and character come off pretty insincerely and honestly fairly grating. The more traditional songs (Time, Hang Down Your Head) here I do like and think his low gravelly voice fits nicely. It's the more cabaret/show tune type songs that I find pretty tiresome. I am glad this was on here because this is now the third time I've heard it and helps confirm this one won't do a ton of growing on me with familiarity.
There are some real stinkers on here which is a shame cause the front of this album honestly kicks and could stand up well with earlier Slipknot releases. Most of these songs are pretty boring/derivative though
Theres a lot of fun to be had on this album, with really only the first and last songs being my complaints here. Most of the album I found a mix of endearing punk, alt, and indie influences
Hmm ok britpop but not necessarily something i can see myself coming back to often, it was alright tho. Better than i expected it to be and far exceeded wonderwall
Lovely, one of, if not the greatest pop albums ever. Deep, rich recording. Love the horns and diverse sounds across this album
Catchy folk rock with flavors of soul, funk and pop. This was really a nice listen.
not bad, but fairly bland to me. had a hard time really differentiating these tracks or getting into them on a larger level...could be bad headphones though
Not great, honestly feel like the orchestra is a major distraction to the songs here and really brings down the entire show. I'm not sure I found a single moment I even thought was on par with the studio recordings of these songs. Poor decision, overly extravagant, not very metal at all.
hmm interesting, progressive folk I don't think is a sound for me, at lease in these more lofty kind of baroque feels. This just seemed largely snooty and disinterested to me. Didn't have the more warm personal comforts that come to define folk for me. Talented musicianship and well written stuff, just not super interesting
hey this aint half bad! pretty fun psych rock acid jam band
This was fun, I've heard a lot about the Fall but never listened to them. What I found here was a post punk record filled with quick catchy hooks
Eh, honestly kinda weak. outside of sweet dreams not a lot of these tracks really called out to me. kind of bland and stereotypical
YOOOO, great stuff, love the skronky post hardcore, the changes in speed and tempo, the loud noisy production
great voice, some of the tracks just felt a little lacking in energy and could have used something to push their sound more. not bad though, 3/5
This is some nice 60s psych pop, definitely going to be coming back to this one. I love how warm and rich the production is, the orchestration is nice.
This album is naaaasty, its rude, mean, loud, and just weird. Pretty cool listen, will definitely come back
Sorta catchy, not off putting. I just wish it were more in some direction, more goth, more punk, more pop. It feels like it sits too squarely between genres, never really finding a sound for themselves, stays bland when I feel their could really be moments.
Interesting, I at both times like that he explains what he's doing to my western ears and then explores on it, and also find that it takes me out of the music. I get why this is on this list, helps round it out, but is it the best representation of its style? I hardly can believe that
This was a slapper, really enjoyed it. great beats and tone
fuck this is powerful, what an incredible voice. the way these songs shift and move is impressive, the flow and feel of this album is pretty unparalleled, the way it aches, the tension.
decent production carried this project, with not a lot to hold onto in the lyrical dept but these are big fun 80s pop tracks. Title track was 7 minutes and fairly overdone by the time it wrapped though
Ooh I'd heard their self titled but hadn't heard this, I really like the heavy dub feel here. Been liking that electronic/ambient/dub crossover zone recently
nothing entirely remarkable about this album, some moments were nice, but this just felt like background filler/grocery store mall music. Not gonna return probably
This was pretty strong, I really liked the last two tracks with the bluesy sax going to town. Some solid covers as well
Fair blues rock, that last song sucks and ruins what had been going on. they must've been whacked out of their minds at the time. Sunshine of Your Love was the only real highlight though
bleh nothing too great, some pretty...unsatisfactory tracks here, kind of molesty and gross. Some nice orchestration.
Not bad smooth jazz, I liked the arrangements, production was very crisp and clean, just didn't feel it was breaking any new ground or pushing the sound beyond things I've heard
Not half bad! in fact I kind of liked this one, Loretta Lynn may be my step into country music! Huh!
There's some strong songs on here, but also a decent amount of filler. 80 minutes is far too long for a zeppelin album
Is this the second big star record on here? I'm not sure I understand that. This album is ok, but certainly not worthy of ALSO hearing in 1001 alongside #1 Record. But it was good pop rock. The Femme Fatale cover was nice, nighttime was touching, some other charming moments. could see this being a favorite had I grown up with it. maybe 10 years down the road I will, idk
This sort of presented itself to me as sort of a psychedelic, middle eastern flavored blues record. I guess not exactly Amercican blues but it was close and definitely had a similar sound until the phrase would resolve in sort of a microtonal/different way to the American ear. I enjoyed this though
This wasn't great or anything but it was better than expected, not a bad listen. I probably would have enjoyed seeing this concert. It sounded pretty damn good on this recording
Pretty folk rock, I like his voice, the way it moves and flows from softer moments into more upbeat and rocking. skillful player as well. will come back
Not bad, but also not great. This album takes awhile to kick in, and by the time it finally does get going you've got two more tracks and it's over. PJ has yet to really sink her teeth into me like she has for many others
not bad, avg blues rock, great gravelly voice and solid musicianship
wow, Dylan's still churning out great albums in the 90s. good to know, this has some really nice bluesy folk rock to it, nice warm hazy production.
ok pop rock but i felt this album needed maybe one or two more hits to even help it move along, pretty slow and tended to drag. Man on the Moon is a classic tho
Yeah Ice can rap, he can write punk, he can play a mean cop.
This album wasn't great, but not bad either 3/5 decent kind of gloomy brit pop
This didn't do a whole lot for me, I like Leonard Cohen but felt his lyricism was neutered here and the production fairly weak and trying to cash in on some sophisti-pop phase in the 90s.
Liked the horns and the arrangements, some of these songs were pretty good. But I found it a bit overwhelmingly schmaltzy and hard to sit through the full thing. Close though.
I thought this was pretty good, just a strong alt rock album. Her voice is great and it didn't fuck around with being super soft then loud then soft again like Rid of Me does. Like this more for sure
when you look at what this album kicked it off it's pretty incredibly, very early to the punk scene and influenced countless bands and sounds and scenes, some tracks im not so into or sound like rehashes of others, but it's good
It was ok, still a bit too virtuosic and drawn out for a 30 minute album. Some nice hooks here that I wish were focused on more
YES ARETHA! I'd only ever heard Respect before but this whole album is jamming. Good stuff, definitely will come back
nothing too special here, hadn't really found their sound yet and ended up making a bland indie pop record
This rocked, liked it more than any cheap trick studio i've heard. Surrender and I Want You rocked on here, great energy and crowd and setlist. Cheap Trick could shred behind their more pop faces
Pretty cool album, I like the concept, the satire, his voice, and songwriting. Good album
I like the diversity of sound Elvis packs into his albums, all remaining in the sort of pop rock world but having a good number of feels throughout. This album was alright, but not enough songs to really bring me back again
This was quite good! I didn't really like either/or first time I heard it, but I appreciated the depth the electric added here. Nice song writing, all quite heartfelt, certainly will return
ehh, the singles on this are all pretty good but it's a slog to get through a good portion of these.
