Before even looking, I knew the community reviews were going to be a dumpster fire. Not every album is going to be Led Zeppelin II. The whole point of using this site is to broaden your horizons. It's embarrassing seeing people reacting to this album like they're being asked to shoot the family pet. I agree that it's not a great album. It has some of her best songs on it, but the entire album has one specific vibe to it that gets a bit old very quickly. She's a phenomenal singer, but it all feels a bit one-trick after a few songs. The backing tracks all sound a bit samey after a while too. Some of them are very sparse too. And I'm not sure that this album is as deep as she seems to think. Still, it's not horrible. You guys are just babies.

I was this close to rating this album a 4 before listening. I love the Screaming Trees, and on top of that I've just finished singer Mark Lanegan's memoir "Sing Backwards and Weep" so I'm feeling a stronger connection to his music than usual. I last listened to this album in full about 10 years ago, and I think the only songs I enjoyed back then were All I Know, and Gospel Plow (which is one of my all-time favourite songs.) So I wasn't exactly going into this expecting much. But wow, I really appreciate these songs in a different way now compared to 10 years ago. I'm disappointed that so many people find it boring, but that's their rating, not mine. I still like Sweet Oblivion more as an album, but Dust is phenomenal, and a beautiful farewell to the Trees.
I don't listen to music made by Nazis.

A bit too "golden oldies" for my personal tastes, but a fun listen!
A fun listen, not quite my style, but I get why people like The Police. Very creative.
Catchy but not really my thing.
Probably the first album on this list that I'm really into, as a big Grunge / 90s Alternative fan - though Smashing Pumpkins is not among my favourites. Today and Disarm are amazing songs, though I feel like most of their best songs were on other albums. A lot of these songs are just a bit samey to me. Still a great listen though!
A fun listen. I'm completely unfamiliar with Billy Joel's work besides the hits. So it's great to take a deeper dive into him.
Pavement has sadly never really been my favourite 90s alt rock band. I find their sound a little off-kilter in a way that I don't really enjoy. "Harness Your Hopes", off another album is amazing, but I can't bring myself to listen to the rest of their work.
I could barely listen to it.
Amazing, one of my favourite albums. Such a unique combining of punk and folk.
Radiohead has never really been my thing. They're a little too out there for me. This album was a fascinating listen though. Pyramid Song is great. All my favourite songs of theirs are on other albums though.
Beautiful and haunting!
Never really listened to the Eagles before this recommendation (besides Hotel California of course), but I'm glad I did. Absolutely stunning album.
There's simply not a single bad song on this album. I don't even listen to Led Zeppelin much beyond the hits, and even then this is going to be the first 5 star rating I've given so far.
It was interesting to finally listen to this album in full. Like most people who've heard of Marty Robbins, we know Big Iron from the video game Fallout New Vegas, and also from the memes the song spawned. The rest of the album is a great listen, though country isn't my favourite genre. Still glad I gave it a chance though.
Weird and ethereal, but it's just a little too bizarre for me.
I've never actually sat down and listened to Elvis Costello before. I was pleasantly surprised!
Great album, although they tried to sneak Green Onions onto it three times. Green Onions is a legendary song, but the rest didn't catch my attention the same way.
Grunge is my favourite genre, I've been listening to every grunge band I've been able to find, ever since I was a kid. But Mudhoney has always been the one that I've never really been able to sink my teeth into. There's an artistry in pure noise and emotion, and I respect it, but I just can't listen to a dozen straight tracks of the same noise over and over. The only song of theirs I have saved on Spotify is a cover of Fang's "The Money Will Roll Right In." I like a few Green River songs, but that's where my connection to these guys ends. Wish I liked them more, but it's not for me.
A bit odd putting a live album on this list. As someone who doesn't know The Who very well, it doesn't give the best first impression of most of their songs.
I was looking at other people's reviews while listening to this. And one stuck out especially. "Bit twee." Yup. That about sums it up. I'm not British (though I do live in the UK now, but I feel like the vibe of this album doesn't quite hit the right way if you're not a nostalgic brit of a certain age. Very catchy, and Victoria is really good, but I couldn't really move past how quaint the whole album sounds. Bit twee.
I love an excuse to listen to The Lemonheads. Their unique brand of folksy, indie alt rock with a hint of country here and there has always been an amazing concept, and they've been one of my favourite bands from the moment I started listening to them. There's not a single bad song on this album, and there's no hesitation in me giving it 5 stars right off the bat. Their cover of Mrs. Robinson is amazing, and I prefer it to the original. The title track is absolutely perfect, and "Bit Part" is a jam too.
I was ready to rate this 3 stars, but there are some hidden gems in here that bumped it up just a little. Creepin' and You Haven't Done Nothin' are both amazing.
Did they record this album underwater? I know this came out in the late 60s, but I didn't realise they employed chimpanzees as sound engineers back then. It sounds like they recorded the whole album as a demo, and then sent it to the record label, who shot the sound engineer, and immediately sent the whole thing to production. I like the vibe of the album, but there's something about it that feels really disjointed. There's no glue that holds the songs together.

It's embarrassing seeing people reacting to this album like they're being asked to shoot the family pet. I agree that it's not a great album. I like the Meat Puppets, but all their best songs are on other albums. Plateau is very good though. Discovered Aurora Borealis though. That's a fun one. The version of Lake Of Fire on their album Too High To Die is way better than the version on this album.
I've never really liked the harmonica, but I don't think an album has ever made me actively hate it the way this album does. The album itself is nice, there are some really good songs here. Maybe it's just the way the album was mixed, but the harmonica was painful.
Really boring. Repetitive loops and samples only occasionally broken up with brief flashes of something approaching a good flow. I love 90s hip hop but this doesn't quite reach the heights that other artists of the time were offering
I don't listen to music made by Nazis.
Very mediocre record saved by Walk This Way and Sweet Emotion. And even then I think the Run-DMC version of Walk This Way is better. Cheap sex appeal crammed into every song and renders them all more boring for it.
It works as ambient music, not as an album to sit down and listen to
I'm 100+ albums in and I think this is the first time I've rated an album that I've never listened to 5 stars. It's easy to give 5 stars to something you are already familiar with, but it takes something very special to make you give full marks on the first listen. RIP Mr. Cohen.
Album is fantastic. Shame about Morrissey though.
I don't listen to music made by Nazis.
When new wave is good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's AWFUL.
I think this is the first time I've given an album a 1 without it being for personal reasons (Kanye West, etc.) I appreciate that Grime isn't made with me in mind (or most of the people in the comments), but I just can't stand it.
Was ready to give this album a skip after a few songs, but things really started to pick up from Junk onwards. It's very rough and I don't think I'd listen to anything on this album again, but I'm glad to have heard it.
I love a few Dinosaur Jr songs (none of which are on this album), but I can't help but feel that Bug would have been a lot more palatable if J Mascis could sing. It works on a few songs (again, none of which were on this album) but after a while you get VERY tired of his out-of-tune wail. I think this album would have been a lot higher rated by the community in that case. In the low 3 stars, at least.
I very rarely rate things 1 star based on the music alone. But this is a bad album. And Jethro Tull already did folksy prog - and better.
She has a lovely voice, but I already don't like country very much, and this was incredibly generic.
It almost feels like heresy to rate this a 3 because it's fucking SABBATH, but I didn't really get much from this album. Only a few of them really spoke to me. The first half of Wheels Of Confusion was a little repetitive - which fortunately meant that The Straightener knocked me over when it kicked in (I listened to the deluxe edition.) Wish I could've gotten more from this album.
Nope. I tried to give it a chance, but no thanks.
Heard Bitter Sweet Symphony way too many times to actually enjoy listening to it today. The rest of the album was a little samey, although The Drugs Don't Work was good, and I added Weeping Willow to my Spotify!
Terrible. God I've had a terrible run of albums lately, hope the next one is listenable.
Not his best work
It was okay. A little bland.
I was this close to rating this album a 4 before listening. I love the Screaming Trees, and on top of that I've just finished singer Mark Lanegan's memoir "Sing Backwards and Weep" so I'm feeling a stronger connection to his music than usual. I already knew Intro and Crystallized, so it was nice to give the rest of the album a chance. Not bad, but it's VERY background music-ish - in that I stopped paying attention a few songs in, and by the time I started listening again, it was nearly the end of the final song. After Crystallized every song pretty much blends together into one long song.
It's probably blasphemy rating this a 3, but I've never really been into jazz.
I like the Hives a lot, but there shouldn't be compilation albums on this list.
It's fine but the songs all get repetitive really quickly. Lyrics are a bit corny by today's standards. Highlight of the album was the chorus of Kilo. "A kilo is a thousand grams, it's easy to remember." A+ lyrics right there. Best song on the album was "The Champ" but I prefer the extended version without the voiceover.
Nearly every song on this album could be used during a Scooby Doo chase scene.
Another "white man discovers Africa" album from the 80s, haha. Really good though
I don't listen to music by Nazis.
Donating my own review to say how much I loved the long-ass review the other guy did.
Beetlebum and Song 2 are phenomenal. I guess there's a reason why they're the only two songs I know from this album. The rest of the album was fine but they really put their best songs right at the beginning. Just barely giving this one 4 stars.
Started off hopeful, but every song after the first one was really boring - it whittled its way down from 3 stars to 2,
I liked it, weirdly enough. Never going to listen to it ever again, but it was a fun listen.
The first sentence is "Your head is too big." Every song on this album is good, but it's just Morrissey at his wankiest. Give the man a microphone and he'll sing about how sad he is, or how bad England is, or how much he hates the Queen, or how much he hates god, or how much he hates himself. It feels like every single song follows the format of "This thing happened to me, and this is how I feel about it. Me. Morrissey. Tortured artist." I've had "Irish Blood, English Heart" on my Spotify for years, this is a really good album, but god you just want to grab him by his pretentious, insufferable little shoulders and shake him.
I like a few songs on this album, but good god All In The Family is trash. I was going to call people out for rating this album so low, but... okay, I get it. Jesus.
Caught off guard by how good this was! I don't listen to a lot of rap, and I wasn't familiar with Q-Tip. I know A Tribe Called Quest but I don't know any of the members by name. The first song kind of felt a little off-kilter and I was pretty sure that this album was going to be sitting in 2 star territory, but the second song immediately turned things around, and it stayed that way!
Not bad, just a bit boring and atmospheric. Not really something I'd expect from a supergroup like this. Half the songs felt like they were crying out for a drum track but were drowning in reverb, echo, and atmosphere instead.
Oh god... What??
Wasn't expecting to be blown away by this one! Wasn't expecting to have listened to them already, either! Their song "A Day At The Races" was on the soundtrack to Tony Hawk's Underground. "Remember His Name" and "Thin Line" stood out to me on this album. I love Chali 2na's voice!
No way was I listening to a 1:45 hour compilation album, but I liked what I heard.
The first 4 minutes or so were fun, but the rest was extremely wanky, the way a lot of prog can be.
I don't think I could rate it anything less than a 4, but some songs just ambled along for WAY too long, like Voodoo Chile or 1983.
