Moby
3/5
OK - very good high notes, a bit tedious at times.
Small Faces
2/5
Absolutely bonkers - proper old school english experimental madness.
Love it in very small quantities.
Simply Red
3/5
Simply Red are a bit of a joke these days, but this album is nice. Mick has a good voice and there's nice soulful/jazzy elements as well as the poppy hits.
An enjoyable listen to begin with but got worse throughout. By the end of the album I'd had enough.
Morrissey
3/5
Not Morrisseys best..
Thelonious Monk
3/5
Pretty nice Jazz - could do with a bit more groove for my tastes but perfectly listenable.
Kanye West
5/5
4/5
Don't really like U2 but this album is rammed full of bangers.
fair play lads.
Tom Waits
1/5
His voice done my head in.
N.W.A.
4/5
Always got time for a bit of NWA.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Absolute belter - want to drive down the highway with the wind in my hair.
JAY Z
4/5
White Denim
4/5
Pleasently surprised by this album. Enjoyable level of rock and groove.
The Clash
3/5
As much as I love The Clash at their best, this just wasn't hitting right.
Beatles
3/5
Always have time for The Beatles. Prefer compilations more than full albums generally.
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
A titanic classic. Absolutely love Jimmy.
One of the few 5 stars I have given.
Marvin Gaye
3/5
at it's best it's beautiful soul, but there are a few slow patches and it can feel a bit samey at times too.
Peter Gabriel
2/5
Not my cuppa, bit 80's, bit poppy.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
An all timer personally, I know it's flawed in a lot of ways. Lyrically it's horrendous at times but for pure funk, grove and melody. I'm absolutely in.
4 stars all day.
3/5
Just not my thing, on certain days I can stand it but today is not that day.
Ramblin' Jack Elliott
3/5
This after Bob Dylan is a bit rough - too much rambling country/folk for me.
David Bowie
4/5
Good album with some of my favourite Bowie songs on it, I'm not a stan so it's still a 4 star from me. Would give 3.5 if I could.
Air
3/5
Some beautiful light breezy bangers, some OK stuff.
Solid overall!
Beastie Boys
4/5
It's important to remember how innovative these guys are, by modern standards it is on the simple side. But considering they had very little frame of reference they put out some banging hip hop.
Janet Jackson
2/5
Damp lyrics and modest funk - not my scene.
The Beach Boys
4/5
I had never sat down and listened to this album before, and it is really innovative and the harmonies are great. The hits are obviously great but all the way through it's a high quality well made album.
Perhaps these guys were unfairly pigeon holed.
Michael Jackson
5/5
Is there a better pop album..?...... I'll wait....
Even if he's a nonce, this album is wall to wall bangers.
The Who
2/5
I think I get it, it just doesn't hugely appeal to me.
Some of it is great, but it's just a bit proggy and 70's for me?
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
3/5
He's great isn't he - some classics on here.
All in a good album, not blowing me away. Listenable.
Nina Simone
3/5
love her but not for me. Bit slow, can admire the voice though!
Ryan Adams
2/5
Not for me.
Soft rock, not enough to keep me interested or engaged.
Justice
4/5
Some absolute fucking belters - an innovative and excellent album.
Thanks for telling me to listen to it!
Public Enemy
3/5
Not for me, a bit simple and too old school. Not enough to keep me captivated.
Norah Jones
2/5
Middle aged white people dinner party.
Can appreciate it's decent music but waaaay too middle of the road.
Pearl Jam
3/5
Good fun!
Mylo
3/5
It's OK, some of the tunes are great and popular long standing songs.
Not hugely my thing though, bit like a weaker daft punk.
Pink Floyd
2/5
Pink Floyd at their best are magnificent, when they're not at their best it's like The Beatles at their worst.
The Allman Brothers Band
4/5
Not what I'd usually go for, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Proper American rock and roll.
ZZ Top
3/5
Not bad, not really my cup of tea but some good tunes on there..
Maxwell
2/5
Too damn sexy.
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Really haven't listened to many stones albums, they considerably more experimental than I had imagined.
Starting an album with sympathy for the devil is a flex.
Joni Mitchell
2/5
She's clearly a great singer but it's just not for me. All over the place and just a bit dull.
Happy Mondays
3/5
Got quite samey but it is a vibe..
Jungle Brothers
4/5
A founding father of hip hop, a good variety of beats and styles throughout the album.
Production value and overall audio quality feels a little low, probably a result of it's time.
But I must say I did enjoy the first play through.
Emmylou Harris
4/5
Decent country vibe.
Really great album, had Stevie Nicks style vocals and nice catchy country rhythms. A pleseant surprise.
Goldfrapp
3/5
A little bit one dimensional but did enjoy the listen through. It all sounds quite similar.
Talking Heads
2/5
It was good, but not good enough to encourage me to dive into any more..
The Band
3/5
Some good shit, some not so good shit.
The Weight is so good though.
Holger Czukay
2/5
Respectfully - what the fuck?
just not my cuppa.
Wet Radio 1 "rock".
The Boo Radleys
2/5
not for me.
Herbie Hancock
4/5
A fucking classic, sometimes a little slow on the breakdowns but without doubt a pioneering masterclass.
Van Halen
2/5
The second song was enough for me to turn this one off.
I'm all for a guitar solo, but an improvised solo on the second track was just not doing it for me.
Talking Heads
3/5
Innovative and occasionally interesting but doesn't really capture my imagination.
Jorge Ben Jor
4/5
This album is a vibe, and so different to the usual stuff this website has been throwing out.
more of this please!
Saint Etienne
4/5
Bit on the random side, but must say I enjoyed it.
Similar to The Avalanches.
Alanis Morissette
5/5
Absolute fucking banger.
Stevie Wonder
4/5
What an incredible album.
Soul II Soul
3/5
90's vibes but pretty meh..
Depeche Mode
2/5
Not for me.
Led Zeppelin
5/5
A masterclass in rock. A legendary album for a reason.
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
It was decent, very cool album, also very short.
Absolutely iconic in places.
Jimi Hendrix
3/5
Not Jimi's finest album, it feels a bit of a mix up of all sorts. Obviously the highs are incredible but it's not a coherent overall sound.
The Killers
3/5
absolutely fucking loved this album when I was 13.
It's still decent in some places even if Mr Brightside has been stolen by white people for a wedding anthem.
Malcolm McLaren
3/5
Pretty decent, just quite distracting when I was trying to focus.
not the albums fault even if it was a bit all over the place.
Common
3/5
Vocals that are smooth and buttery. Common is a G.
A Tribe Called Quest
5/5
Instant 5 stars. One of my all time favourites.
Joan Armatrading
4/5
Actually really good, hadn't heard of her before but it was a great album.
Lovely voice, some Jeff Buckley notes in there too. Very innovative for 1976!
Hugh Masekela
3/5
Love the jazziness but did start getting fatigued, but I think that's on me.
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Iconic.
So many nonsense lyrics but the groove and the funk and the nostalgia factor give this one 4 stars.
Paul Simon
3/5
Not bad, it's for sure not my thing necessarily but still good music in places.
The Police
4/5
So many iconic songs I grew up with, big fan of the drumming and bass.
Overall just an enjoyable album.
Little Richard
3/5
Good fun and super innovative of it's time but not something I'll regularly go back and listen to.
Moby Grape
3/5
Yeah not bad.
Big Star
3/5
Fully had never heard of Big Star before, not too bad. Pretty generic american rock..
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
A classic, a legend.
The Smashing Pumpkins
4/5
As much as I love their big tracks I hadn't really listened to their albums.
Very Radiohead-like quality to their music but heavier. I must admit it was really enjoyable.
Jerry Lee Lewis
4/5
Can't imagine how fun that would be to see him live with this.
David Holmes
4/5
Perfect working music, feels similar to Endtroducing. Good hip hopy feel and actually also reminds me of Oceans 11 for some reason.
All in all I enjoyed.
Can
3/5
Pretty good, experimental vibes. Not something I'll go back for.
Bruce Springsteen
2/5
Just not a springsteen guy.
The Smiths
3/5
I am a big fan of the Smiths, a 3.5 star for me. Drops to a 3 I think.
Death In Vegas
3/5
Didn't finish it, was doing OK before I got to the end.
The Doors
3/5
bit corny in places and then some undeniable greatness. A hard one to rate.
Butthole Surfers
2/5
Respectfully - what the fuck?
Sam Cooke
4/5
Such a soft spot for Sam Cooke and the live albums do help you vividly imagine how great it would be to see him.
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
2/5
It was OK, I didn't really notice it while I had it on. So it wasn't offensive nor particularly gripping.
Living Colour
2/5
Cult of personality is a fucking banger, the rest is quite 80's phil collins vibe which just isn't my cup of tea..
OutKast
3/5
Might just be a few too many tracks. Disk 2 is levels above Disk 1.
Otherwise it's an absolute classic and some brilliance on there, just before Andre fell off the deep end and started doing mad shit.
Beatles
4/5
To my British shame I haven't spent enough time listening to the Beatles actual album catalogue.
This is a great album and has some huge songs and also some I haven't heard of that just bought the album together.
Good stuff.
2/5
Really not my cup of tea.
Neil Young
3/5
Never done Neil Young really before, like robert plant and a more folky Led Zep.
Enjoy.
G. Love & Special Sauce
3/5
got pretty samey but quite liked the vibe..
Kacey Musgraves
1/5
Not my cup of tea.
Poppy generic pop.
Pere Ubu
2/5
Bit annoying, had high hopes.
Meat Loaf
3/5
Think I just missed the boat on this one and it now feels a little bit dated.
Some of it I get and think is good, others are a bit too power ballad for me.
Iggy Pop
3/5
Lust for life has to be up there with one of the best album starters of all time?
Overall the album was enjoyable for someone who knows his hits but not his back catalogue really at all.
Doves
3/5
A bit Jeff Buckley on the chords, a bit radiohead, a bit elbow..
but not as good as any of them..
Crowded House
2/5
Totally OK 80's/90's poppy rock..
Will never listen to this album again.
Kate Bush
4/5
Never listening to Kate Bush loads but I totally get it, amazing depth and incredibly experimental and innovative.
Some absolute incredible bangers and look at that fucking album cover!
Pixies
4/5
Love the pixies.
Easy 4 star.
David Bowie
3/5
I love peak Bowie but this isn't really for me..
I know how innovative and excellent he is in theory but to my ears it's just decent to OK rock.
Soft Cell
2/5
80's twaddle..
Eurythmics
3/5
Okay - don't really get it to be honest. Struggle with 80's music.
TV On The Radio
2/5
Completely forgettable 2000's rock.
LCD Soundsystem
3/5
It was OK, unsure how much I truly enjoyed it. Harmless but not particularly thrilling. 3.5 stars.
Keith Jarrett
2/5
Nice piano music but a bit one dimensional as a result?
Bruce Springsteen
3/5
Not a huge spirngsteen fan but it was enjoyable and went pretty quickly.
Kate Bush
2/5
Only had another Kate Bush album a few days ago, too much Bush in too short a time.
Weather Report
1/5
No patience for shit like this today.
Game show sounding shit to start the album andf it's their most played song.
Fuck outta here.
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
Just love Tribe so much. Not their best album (midnight marauders) but still a belter.
Queen
5/5
Obviously some of the biggest and best songs ever on here.
It's undeniably a classic, to think this is an actual album is beyond impressive. Quirky and fun, inspiring and incredible musicianship.
Has to be a 5 star really doesn't it?
The Cult
3/5
Bit samey and not really my genre of choice.
Tangerine Dream
2/5
Not available on Spotify.
Slayer
3/5
Not on a Monday morning... I can admire the musicianship and skill, still not my kinda music.
Duke Ellington
4/5
Really enjoyed this album, a bit shrill and badly recorded at points but the jazzy/funkiness was on my vibe.
The Cure
2/5
Love them at their best but their albums are a bit slow and emo for me..
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
CCR are probably my favourite find through 1001 Albums.
Could be completely wrong but they feel like proper vietnam era rock and roll. Their music is excellent even if it isn't what I'd usually listen to.
Flamin' Groovies
2/5
It was OK - don't really know how it could make it into the top 1001 albums of all time..
The Pogues
3/5
bit odd to have a christmas song mid album, but it's a good bit of Irish fun! Does get a bit draining over time..
Would be so good to watch them in Temple Bar full of Guinness.
Jimmy Smith
3/5
Nice smooth jazz, not at all what I expected from the album title.
Nick Drake
3/5
Pink Moon is always gettign recommended to me on Spotify, nice song.
Let's see what else this guy is about:
A bit one dimensional but nice acoustic background music, probably a 3.5 star if I could.
The Fall
2/5
Meh - vanilla rock that doesn't move me..
The Rolling Stones
4/5
A classic and a belter - 4 stars purely because it isn't as magnificent as my personal preference on 5 star albums.
Nine Inch Nails
3/5
I love NIN but I really have to be in the mood for them otherwise they're quite irritating.
Closer is incredible though.. 3.5 stars.
Cream
3/5
Yeah enjoyed that, classic 60's/70's rock.
Didn't fucking realise Clapton was English!
Black Sabbath
4/5
So funny that this was considered metal!
It's a good album, melodic and rhythmic but clearly still rock/metal.
RIP Ozzy.
Scritti Politti
1/5
I instantly hate this.
Bonnie Raitt
2/5
Just not my thing, American line dancing country rock.
No thank you.
Frank Ocean
5/5
5 stars.
Excellent variety and creativity, ranging from introspective poetry to pop tunes and a lot in between. I suspect it's ranking will get tanked because this website seems to favour 80's rock above all else but this is a modern classic.
Beatles
3/5
If this album was 12 tracks it could probably be one of the greats of all time. As it is, there's a lot of absolute nonsense filler twaddle and I'm just struggling to deal with it!
3.5 stars
Fiona Apple
2/5
Not really my thing. 90's rock that is of very little consequence.
Johnny Cash
4/5
Really fucking enjoyed this - the live aspect added to the album for me and it's so damn cool.
Big fan.
Barry Adamson
2/5
1001 greatest albums of all time?
It's an interesting score for a film that doesn't exist - will likely forget all about it when it finished.
Cornershop
2/5
Bit of a nothing burger.
Carole King
3/5
Hot and Cold, decent album.
Kanye West
5/5
The guy is a bellend but this is a 5 star album.
Dolly Parton
3/5
What a woman, it's a lovely album but country isn't really my thing and even though I'm sure the song writing is delightful it just doesn't really move me when the musicality is one dimensional.
Kate Bush
3/5
More of the same from Bush really. Not my thing but can admire some of the musicality.
Stan Getz
3/5
Pretty nice Jazz album. Not mind blowing.
Funkadelic
4/5
Some funky ass shit.
The ass shit applies to all the fart sounds at the end of Wars of Armageddon.
New Order
3/5
Just not into the 80's aesthetic really.
Earth, Wind & Fire
5/5
Has to be a 5 star surely?
Rahul Dev Burman
3/5
Some of it was great, some of it was super duper Indian.
overall enjoyed the listen though.
Various Artists
3/5
Nah, not on January 5th - sorry.
The Smiths
4/5
I just really love The Smiths.
The Cure
3/5
Actually a pretty decent album, less whiny than some of the other stuff from The Cure. I'll still probably never listen again.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3/5
Not too bad, not too good.
Dennis Wilson
2/5
Sorry Dennis I didn't give you a fair chance but you just were not what I wanted today.
Pink Floyd
5/5
Another work of art beyond "just" an album. One of my all time favourites.
Radiohead
5/5
Oh jheeze, this after Dark Side Of The Moon, this list is fucking delivering.
Another 5 stars for me, still not my favourite Radiohead album but the stars don't allow me sufficient wiggle room to rate this 4.5.
Cocteau Twins
2/5
Failed to really grab me or inspire me.
Joni Mitchell
3/5
Just don't really like Joni Mitchell, bit of a vibe and less slow than the other albums I've heard of hers.
3 stars.
The Cure
3/5
Green Day
3/5
A teenage classic, some of it is a bit cringe these days but I loved it when I was a kid!
Took a nice trip down memory lane listening to it.
Haircut 100
1/5
NO shade on these lads but this list is so lacking in non-white music.
Not a bad album, just a bit tired of the same stuff.
Nope changed my mind after Love Plus One - crap.
Jurassic 5
3/5
Great, if not slightly safe rap.. Opened doors to many artists in the future.
In isolation this album is fairly middle of the road with some great tunes and nice rhythm/funk but far from incredible.
James Taylor
3/5
pretty nice little album - classic 70's acoustic pop.
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Got some absolute fucking all timers on it hasn't it.
Probably deserves 4 stars alone for that.
Beatles
5/5
Best Beatles album and one of the best albums out there.
Charles Mingus
3/5
Pretty nice jazz album from the 60's, didn't blow me away but enjoyed the vibe. can imagine it would have been amazing in a jazz bar somewhere.
Gene Clark
3/5
Serviceable album, kind of like The Doors at points and nice melodies.
Didn't blow me away.
The Jesus And Mary Chain
2/5
Boring.
Michael Kiwanuka
4/5
Big fan of this album, listened to it many many times and I think it'll be a timeless great album for a long time..
Coldplay
3/5
Yeah a really good album if we're being honest with ourselves.
I can't give it 4 stars through personal preference but would love to give it 3.5..
The Jam
4/5
I love The Jam, they remind me of my parents and their youthful vigor. Such cool, London music.
Album itself is quick and punchy, not incredible but a great, fun, album.
Traffic
2/5
Dusty Springfield
3/5
Bob Dylan
4/5
This is a hugely influential album, I can see it across so many of my favourite artists.
On an individual level I enjoyed it too, a step into more modern music from straight acoustic song writing but with the strong song writing still being the backbone of the music.
Solomon Burke
3/5
Kings of Leon
3/5
They got so charty it's difficult to remember that they were a really cool band when they got started. Really cool vibe and great music.
Fiona Apple
2/5
Just not for me - seems a good song writer but the music didn't gel with me.
The White Stripes
3/5
It was a good album, I'd never really listened to it because 7 nation army was so prevalant it was annoying.
Good variety and enjoyable.
Would give it 3.5 stars.
Jeff Buckley
5/5
One of my all time favourite albums. The variety and the vocal power of Buckley and the tragedy of his death make this such an incredible piece of art.
Bob Dylan
4/5
I've actually really enjoyed the Dylan discoveries on this website. This is another good one, the style and vibe works for me.
David Bowie
3/5
Feels like sacralidge but I'm just not a huge Bowie guy..
Some of his stuff is obviously insane and amazing, but so many of his albums feel a bit rinky dink.
The Gun Club
3/5
quite generic rock and roll, had high hopes because it was something I completely hadn't heard of but it didn't do much for me, the drumming was basically the same the whole album and the singer had an average voice.
3 stars just because it reminded me of The Pixies.
Arcade Fire
2/5
it's OK you know, it doesn't wow me really in any way but it's good music.
Beck
3/5
Not quite on the same level as some of this other stuff but still an enjoyable album.
Metallica
3/5
i get they’re kind of pioneers of this sound but it sounds like such generic metal/rock
Gram Parsons
2/5
Pretty slow tedious folk/country.
3/5
I quite like the instrumentalism, little bit samey samey.
David Bowie
4/5
Better than the other Bowie album I reviewed recently. A little bit less experimental and just good old fashioned bangers.
3.5 but more 3 than 4.
Lou Reed
3/5
Obviously at it's best it has some iconic songs but otherwise I think it was just an OK album.
Metallica
2/5
Nah not again. The guitar tone is the same on every song and it just doesn't do it for me.
The Adverts
2/5
Just not in the mood for punk today - seemed fine.
Wu-Tang Clan
4/5
A classic and finally something different from this list! About damn time.
Doves
2/5
Not for me.
2.5 stars.
Pixies
4/5
There's a lot about the Pixies that I should find irritating but they just aren't..
It's raw, driving melodies and ripping vocals and i just like it.
Elvis Presley
4/5
Yeah he's a fucking legend ain't he.
Some awesome tunes and the guy has unlimited game doesn't he.
k.d. lang
2/5
Just categorically not for me - generic singer song writer white people music with very little about it.
Lauryn Hill
5/5
5 stars - this album is a masterpiece.
Everything But The Girl
2/5
Another day, another average white band playing average white music..
Prince
4/5
Geezer is swag personified, album is a touch 80's for me but you can tell it's fucking great still.
Sigur Rós
3/5
Feels like it should be my cup of tea but is actually just a bit annoying at times.
Some of it is beautiful though, mixed bag.
The Notorious B.I.G.
4/5
It's always a beautiful tonic to hear hip hop when I've been inundated with back to back crusty 70's white guy music.
Songhoy Blues
3/5
Quite enjoyable and very different!
Manic Street Preachers
3/5
Quite a good album, feels like it's aged a little bit but I guess it is 30 years old... FUCK.
The Isley Brothers
4/5
Louis Prima
3/5
I love this type of music, makes me think of romantic golden era hollywood movies and better times..
It was however a mixed bag on an album, at it's best it made my heart swell, at it's worth I had to skip beacuse it was an irritant..
Crosby, Stills & Nash
2/5
Just a nothing burger of an album.
The Dandy Warhols
2/5
Stereo MC's
3/5
Proper 90's stuff this.
Fela Kuti
4/5
I immediately warm to music that isn't white and crusty on this list.
This is that vibe., plus ginger baker. Respect.
John Lennon
4/5
Great album, first time.
4/5
Yeah really good, a bit whimsical in places but better than the White Album, not as good as Abbey Road.
The Fall
3/5
Trying very hard to be cool. Not for me.
The Darkness
4/5
BELTER.
MGMT
4/5
Of it's time but a great album - nice vibe and reminds me of being a teenageer.
Garbage
3/5
Not for me, quite 90's slow indy/rock. Slightly cool but just not my kind of cool.
Eels
3/5
I do like this album but it's a bit slow at times.
Reminds me of Levi jeans..?
Alice Cooper
2/5
Kinda generic white guy rock. Not for me.
Van Halen
2/5
Cheesy 80's synth rock.
Stan Getz
3/5
A tiny bit elevator music, because I thinik it was overused as elevator music. A decent vibe though.
Willie Nelson
3/5
Probably a 3.5, I quite enjoyed the vibe of it. Good dinner party music but otherwise a bit of a nothing vibe.
Nirvana
4/5
Shockingly I've never listened to this before despite how much I love Nirvana.
Definnitely worth 4 stars for the excellence of some of the hits, but also how punk it is to release this after Nevermind in a period wher they could have cashed in.
Good work.
Willie Nelson
3/5
Preferred it to Stardust, probably still around 3.5 though. Don't think I can give it 4.
R.E.M.
3/5
It was OK, didn't grab me really at any point.
Ray Charles
3/5
Not what I was expecting, and didn't particualrly grab me in any way. Good background listening.
Amy Winehouse
4/5
Probably my favourite album of hers for it's grittiness and melody.
She was one hell of an artist and I miss her.
Minor Threat
2/5
Just not a messy, raw punk guy really.
Ms. Dynamite
4/5
As someone from the UK that enjoys garage style UK hip hop from the 00's this was always going to be up my street. I think it's a less refined UK version of Lauryn Hill in a lot of ways.
I'm a fan.
The Birthday Party
1/5
I had a messy piece of shit album yesterday and now this today.
Stupid.
Prince
3/5
pretty good album, did enjoy it.
Didn't have any huge hits for me.
Cat Stevens
4/5
Excellent album, I'd never heard of it but knew a handful of the records. Some iconic songs and the overall composition of the album is great.
50 Cent
4/5
Really good 2000's hip hop album. yes they're problematic but it does represent the culture at that point in time and you can't deny the groove and melody involved.
KISS
2/5
Kind of passed me by average, boring rock.
Tim Buckley
3/5
The Buckleys vocal range is extraordinary, you can see how Jeff was influenced by his dads music.
As a standalone album I like it, more jazzy than I was expecting and the music really is a platform to let Tim's vocals fly. It didn't kick off through the second half so was a little flat at times.
Yes
3/5
Feels like a concept album wiht a story to tell but also musically just not my vibe.
Elton John
4/5
Got some classics on it and overall some great musicianship. Suffers at times from being a shade 70's but mostly a great album.
heh - Jamaica Jerk Off.
Christina Aguilera
3/5
Possibly the most jarringly rogue album I've seen on this website..
Was ready to hate, but had some decent pop/R&B melody vibes.
Some of it is total cornball shit still.
Tori Amos
2/5
Like Kate Bush but not Kate Bush.
Lou Reed
2/5
Some of it good, some of it a bit dull.
2.5 stars, rounding down to 2.
