Reviews (page 16 of 16)

So I love me some heavy radio play pop music, I love a good movie song, I'm not against popular stuff. I just checked and I'm dissapointed the Spice Girls never made this list. But I've never once intentionally listened to a Coldplay song and I know 3/4 of these mediocre, sleep-mood songs. Are they just a more friendly radiohead? I'm so confused. Worst part is they are not bad enough to give a two.

Not offensive, mostly just background noise

I thought this band received an unfair amount of hate and I was wrong

Good background music. Usually not in the mood for something quite as mellow.

Probably my favorite Coldplay album, love the mellow mood of a lot of the songs, mixed with the high energy of others. Loved getting back into this album and more early Coldplay music. Highlights: -Shiver -Spies -Sparks -We Never Change

Fav: Spies, Sparks, Everything's Not Lost

Coldplay is best🤷🏼‍♂️

Easily listening of course

Some good songs on here then a bunch of forgettable slow boring stuff too

I wish I could give this less

Also good, but bit more average

"Look at the stars, look how they shine for you!"

Anyone who thinks Coldplay are a shit band is a fucking idiot. I would suggest they should go have a long hard look in the mirror. Yes their later more recent releases have been sub par but there are a thousand other bands who've milked it just the same (U2) without copping the hate that Coldplay have. This album is perfect. Shiver, Yellow, High Speed all obvious highlights. Everything's Not Lost is a killer closing track as well.

Typical weak Coldplay stuff, do not like.

não mereço ouvir coldplay

Good album but not their best

I can't bring myself to listen to this.

One of the best coldplay album imo. I still like their latest ones, but the first ones were really better

I remember this

I liked it. It's not something I'll listen everyday or when transmutting, but it's cool and full of classics for the modern music landscape.

It might be fashionable to deride Coldplay, but there's a reason they became one of the biggest bands in the world. Great melodies sitting over well structured songs, beautiful sounding guitars (I'm a fan of delay and modulation effects used tastefully), plenty of dynamic range.

Coldplay are shit

This album feels mediocre, and it's hard to understand why it made this list other than a severe recency bias. This album also definitely suffers from having been released the same year as Kid A, which makes Coldplay seem like a version of Radiohead that's safe for Boomers to listen to. It's not bad, it's just not an album that I could imagine telling someone that it's important for them to listen to 3/5

Sehr gut. Hat mir sehr gefallen! Coldplay kennt man ja, aber ein ganzes Album hab ich noch nie gehört.

Very solid debut album of a great pop band. Yellow is by far the best song on there but there is not a really bad song on there either

Fantastic album some good song and some great songs. Almost a 5.

Still love this album

i do not care, i fuckin love coldplay

I’ve spent the last 2 days listening to IDLES, so I may have been a bit harsh on this one. It definitely was not the change of pace I was looking for today.

Classic coldplay was the best coldplay, I like this one a lot.

Spotify. Fave song “Trouble”. Ok listen. 3.5 star

Good album overall

Not really my thing, but good none the less.

.5 star for yellow reminding me of running laps in the gym during PE

Of course it's ridiculous to compare this band to the best in history, but that doesn't mean they're bad. This is a perfectly competent debut album. Best track: Yellow

boring tbh couldnt finish

When Coldplay was class ahah

A stunning debut! Very calming for the soul. I had already heard this previously.

They're shit these days. Were they shit at this time of period as well? Is this rating based on nostalgia only? Perhaps. But i quite like it.

The only Coldplay album worth a listen.

I've only heard Coldplay's hits and thought it was too mopey, go-nowhere soft rock type stuff for me. So this may be a struggle (or at best, it could be good background music.) Ok, I'll do pros and cons: pros: it's relatively short for an album released in 2000, keeping to the golden 40min or so. the guitarwork is tasty in places, lots of minor key stuff that I don't mind in heavier music or stuff like Oasis. Some of the tracks were pretty dynamic, relatively big changes that created a vibe etc. cons: it's whiny and pretty samey, lots of meandering, introspective, self-indulgent jams. the singing is generic soft voice stuff, can get pretty annoying tbh. probably my biggest criticism is that it sounds like a watered down version of post-rock, which even though it isn't my fav genre, does have its moments. overall: it's better than I expected, but to be a total music snob, it feels more like an entry point for bigger things than any real destination of its own. 3/5 because for what it is, it's competent and once you acclimatise to the vocals it's pretty listenable.
