Different

Absolutely DNF. Confounded by a lot of the “Brit” rock on this list.

Plays like a studio rat’s demo tape. Thousands of well conceived and recorded sonic clips haphazardly tossed together without the slightest consideration for song writing or arranging. Listening was about as emotionally engaging as leafing through an office supply catalogue.

Too much synthesizer. Not really something I would listen too again.

Too psychedelic for me…

Somewhere between 1-2 stars. Only thing making this cohesive is the annoying ness. Not a fan of the vocals, lyrics, or instrumentation. Particularly confused with the constant alien noises in the background. Not enjoyable.

Didn't resonate to me in any level.

It was difficult to put into words how to describe my experience listening to this album. It was partly Indie Brit Pop, mixed with a heavy helping of Brit Rock, along with some psychedelic gibberish, electronica, lounge singing, and noise. It was all over the place. It was hot garbage.

Did not like it

Just awful music

Not good at all. Long and voice sucks.

Niet geluisterd, te lang

That was so boring that I was falling asleep while walking

They certainly marshalled every available synth and sampler to create an album rich with musical flourishes. But alas it didn’t really connect with me.

Mighty weird that the best rated song on this album (“Tradewinds”) isn’t on this album. I found the majority of the songs on this album to be dense and symphonically psychedelic - full of skill but just not hitting an audio mark that I would denote as ‘excellent’, much less ‘must listen to before I die’. I’m noting the classic and influential albums not yet on this list and judging this one severely as a result. Shoot me.

An album with an identity crisis Not sure what I was expecting, but this definitely wasn't this. This album is a disjointed illogical mess. This is an album with an identity crisis with sounds of emo, rock opera, prog rock, the ass end of the surfer band music (think 80s Beach Boys not 60s Beach Boys). There were a few good songs on the album, but there is more flow in a dry creek bed than there is in this album.

Seriously, all this UK late-90's/early-00's crap sounds the same. Lots of reverb, whiny vocals... it's boring. Fine. Put one or two on the 1001 list to fill it out, but there's no need for so many. None of them are different; none of them are historically significant. I don't need to hear another one. 1 star because I'm sick of the same bloody sound day-in and day-out.

Awful.

Another suck-fest.

In one word: lackluster or incoherent

elcectic and unique.....yes. really didn't care for it. discordant sounds, weird attempts at harmonizing falsettos, and tinny vocals. not sure why this is taking up a spot on this list..... 1.5 stars

nope. I can hear how this band COULD be good but they aren't .

It feels as if the drummer is just plodding along waiting for the end of each song to happen. It sounds like the Flaming Lips but done badly. Quite a boring first listen. Maybe I need to try again.

I couldn't figure out what this is supposed to be long enough to enjoy any of it. I just kept thinking of Donny and Marie Osmond wearing Daft Punk helmets while trying to sing Elvis Costello songs. That image is worth a half-star, bringing their total to one and one-half stars.

i don’t mess with the furries

Wow, that album art is not promising. I was totally expecting another shitty British drum n bass album, but it's just a bland early aughts Welsh alt-rock band. This reminds me of someone who pretends to have taken acid before but they're just going off what they think it would feel like based on having heard Flaming Lips and the one time they got way too high on weed. Best thing I can say about this is that there are some interesting things going on hidden among the layers, the problem is that they're covered by so many other layers that it just turns to shit. I probably would've loved this back when it came out when I was 15. The fact that the 20th Anniversary Edition is two volumes on Apple Music and comprises of almost 7 hours of tracks kind of just sums up how annoying this is. It's not even all that terrible, but it is incredibly tiresome. Could've been a solid 2, but as I write this, I'm only halfway through the original 13 tracks and I'm not sure how much more of this I can listen to. The UK bias wins again, but it's not a win for me.

Gear: Hifiman Arya Artwork: Nope. Mix: Nope. Musik: Nope. Wertung: 🙅/5

Nooo i furry nooo

Absolute rubbish, just felt like a waste of time, like someone told them 'just make an album, doesn't matter what it's like'

I missed this album back in the day. I guess I didn’t miss much.

Really odd and eclectic. 1/5

not my cup o tea

🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮🚮

Ew. It's so disjointed. There's a fine line between deep and pretentious and this is on the wrong side of it.

you know i think could've died without hearing this one actually, and there were even a few points deep into the album that death almost seemed more appealing than sitting through more of this bland "made for supermarket adverts" type rock. would give it a 2 because most of it wasn't completely intolerable, but I did give it up completely before the end, so 1 it is.

Not for me!

Woo hoo! My first one star album! Why is this on the list?! I can list a bunch of stuff I'd prefer to listen to rather than this album: jackhammering next door, cats in heat yeowling in the night, the high-pitched shrieking of a toddler. Pretty much from the first song I wanted it to be over. There were maybe one or two redeemable moments in some of the songs that were quickly turned back into grating bleurghhhh.

This was soooo boring.

I think this could’ve squeaked out a 2/5 if it stayed in its boring little singer-songwriter lane, treading water in 2000s easy-listening territory. Instead, it veers wildly into art-rock territory with electronic squawks and unjustified genre change-ups that feel less avant-garde than desperate. A fat load of trite nonsense to sit through on the plane, would’ve preferred the dude’s monotone vocals over soft guitar for an hour instead so I could’ve gone to sleep.

I was expecting this to be better.

Dull, dull, dull. No idea why this album finds its way onto the list. I suspect this is another instance of the author's personal listening bias, so often seen for albums of this time period.

Are you really trying to tell me that there werent 1001 other albums that were better than this one? I feel like all you have to do to be on this list is be from the UK. Its not even a requirement that you be halfway decent or have any talent whatsoever. 1/5

Not my kind

This is one of the first albums on this list that I just couldn't listen through. It reminds me of another artist I really don't like, and I just couldn't resonate with any of these songs. Not a fan

uma bosta

This band sucks. Hated it

doesn’t incorporate any of its wide array of musical elements in an interesting way at all. pretty underwhelming. feels like it would be the soundtrack to a movie called Mr. Gaborium’s Cannaborium Emporium

I did not like this album at all. The songs were bad. The lyrics were forgettable, the music wasn’t great, the sound of the singers voice wasn’t good and there were alot of straight up annoying noises in the songs.

I was bored throughout the whole thing. It was ok background music, but I dont think I'd search for it.

Rings Around The World All over the place. Starts with a piano melody morphing into space soundtrack, then track 2 is a jarring rock alarm. Smacks of annoying concept album of monumental importance to musicologists but not me. I look them up. Welsh brit pop electronica. Ok. I hear a bit fo “AIR” in track 3 But them I got bored.

I didn’t know this band before. They’re like if The Flaming Lips were not good.

Another low quality, low effort Soundcloud level project recorded in some random rural British basement. I'm thinking the same people who did the Teenage Fanclub album cover did this one as well. Makes all my other one star reviews seem almost unfair. One thumbs down is all I can give this. 👎

poopy shit

The band's name isn't doing them any favors. I kept listening, waiting to be impressed and it just bored the shit out of me. These guys don't know what they're talking about. Apparently the annoying oaf from Notting Hill is in this band, which is just a little too on the nose.

not interesting and weak

Not 1 stand-out track. Some bits were almost ok but they'd get ruined by something or other. Just didn't think much of it.

Hey! I'm back! I didn't not enjoy this one, but, having just finished this I couldn't sing you back a single song or tell you a single defining feature of their style. I could be wrong, but I'm out.

Was 2001 a really bad year for music or something for this to be so criticality praised? For me, this ambitious attempt to blend disparate genres falls pretty flat. The situation isn't helped with the extremely bland subpar vocals. Also, this album art is fucking terrible!

Interesting sound. Not my cup of tea.

I hated almost every second of this - although I can't say every second because I couldn't bear to listen to it all. Appalling, jarring, deliberately mad dynamics, this was everything Milly said about Rush, but in a different genre and played less competently and maybe they actually were trying to be funny. The opening track has the worst percussion I've ever heard. Worse, even, than the White Stripes. I'm losing faith in the list - why is this in any way an important album? I don't expect to like lots of stuff but I can still appreciate why it might be significant - even though I may hate it - but this definitely isn't.

Did not get through a single entire song. Really bad.

Didn't like but I think my expectations were confused with 'Supergrass' so was expecting upbeat pop rather than dirty stuff. Overly harsh rating...

Sounds like generic British pop rock. Bland all around. 2/10.

Soooooo boring. I really dont class this as rock no matter what people say. Nil points.

I have always not liked the vocals at all.

not for me.

Dear lord! Snoooooooze city. What a boring freaking album. I stopped listening after the first few tracks.
