Noise, shred, noise, shred, noise, shred. Is it possible to smell music? I could smell this, it smelt like sweaty men. There just seemed to be nothing melodic about it. I can't stand these sort of guitar shredding solos for the sake of it, "OK you can play notes fast, congratulations". Not for me.

Is this Brit pop? Could have easily been a Blur album... Musically ok, but did it grab me, no.
Was suprised at how many hits I knew from this album! Pretty good innit!
Abysmal. Yeah first 2 tracks are "okay" however a whole album of songs (which are mostly a considerable length) consisting of the same thing on repeat. Here's my quick guide to writing a song to appear on 1999: "Girl, you want to have dirty sex with me" *bad synth noise* "Girl, I want to have sex with you" *squeal* "It feels really good" *80s porno sounds* Repeat for around 8 or even 9 minutes give the track a silly name. DONE. Genuinely the first album yet I've gotten halfway through a song and skipped, bear in mind halfway through I've already dealt with 4+ minutes of it... I'd give it a 0.5 if I could. 😅
You know, I hate Dylan I really do and this album started off challenging. Bad singing, bad harmonicas everything I hate about Dylan. However it does warm up and there's one or two nice songs in here.

Until today I hadn't listened to a whole CSNY album but somehow knew what it would sound like and well, it did! There's nothing offensive about it, folk/country/soft rock with vocal harmonies and late 60s hippie vibes. By track 4 or 5 you'll understand why the album is titled as it is... by track 8 it could have been track 2 again and I'd have been none the wiser.
I expected so much more! Eagles! One of the giants of American softish rock. I'd heard all the big hitters before and thought there would be a bit more. All very jingly jangly. With some absolutely mind bending choices thrown in here and there. "Most of us are sad" is a jarring sad song seemingly put smack bang in the middle to stop us getting ahead of ourselves and relaxing into 40 minutes of fun country rock. Then the weird false bird noises randomly chucked into "Earlybird" felt like a very bad left field idea that nobody challenged! (They really should have!) Apart from that, it wasn't a bad ride really very Americana, very safe, some nice bits here and there. But felt quite samey throughout. In fact I'm sure "Train leaves here in the morning" WAS or IS a different Eagles track but that's by the by!
"Don't Give Up" is a masterpiece, I feel the rest of the album was a musical theatre piece. None of it would have gone amiss in the west end I'm sure! Just a bit big and bland for my tastes.
Some great music on this album, however at points quite jarring on the ear. Multiple times thought my Spotify had gone on to random with the track listing as there seemed no flow!
I can't lie, I struggled. Was the bassist given the wrong sheet music? Not for me. Second star given for the live glass clink sounds.
Bluesy, folky, country-y felt like some funk soul in there too at points. Good mix of songs. Having only heard "The Weight" before by The Band I was unsure what to expect. Some great music and good vocals to boot. I'm feeling happy, take 4 of my stars.
You know what, I was apprehensive. I popped it on in the gym and just got into it. I could hear lots of bits that have obviously gone on to influence newer experimental/proggy artists! This WILL be getting another listen or two!
I love Zeppelin, and this album is no different! Probably more like a 4.5 stars rather than 5. Big riffs, loud drums and some beautiful melodies. My only gripe, and something that has really made me think twice before blasting out Zeppelin in recent years is Bonhams squeaky bloody pedal. It crops up in most of the albums and once you hear it once it's THERE, there's no escaping it! These guys made mega pennies and yet didn't grease their bloody drum pedal! *Power riff* *squeak*. Sorry if this spoils future Zep experiences for all that have read this, but I needed my say.
You like soul? You want to dance? Then this has it all, only shame was it was over in 35 minutes. I had to listen twice instead!
One of the very first albums I brought as a kid! There is some belters on this album, it does tail off a bit toward the end however... I think this album shaped my love of taking samples and making something new out of them. It's certainly not perfect but a good 7.5 outta 10
I love Floyd, but it's been a loooooong time since I listened to the wall, I used to find it quite dark and very convoluted. It's still a bit of both, but I enjoyed it much more musically this time around. It's no Animals or DSotM though think you 100% need the visuals too.
This was almost the first I couldn't finish, how bloody bland. At points it felt like people plinking random strings on a guitar and hoping, like jazz but worse. Just plain boring. Nothing going on at all.
I really wanted to love it. But alas, I just found it a bit whimsical and light. Maybe needs another listen or 3 to start really getting it. Did feel like a little album of short stories though...
Dark, Haunting and beautiful.
Went in completely blank, had only known the "desserts mystery" song before which isn't actually on this album. Was surprisingly OK, I assume this is either from the early wave or the start of a DnB era. Felt like lots of DnB influences throughout and I quite liked that! 3.5 really.
Is it summer in in the mid 90s, are you in the park with an alcopop? No, well you'll soon feel like you are. Pop indie easy to listen to songs all the way through. Would I listen again? Maybe, however it's definitely a sunny day kinda album, BBQ with mates vibes. Not unfortunately a driving through the hammering rainy Welsh hills vibe that we had going on at the time!
Lots of decent stuff, can tell they are trying to find their feet as a band! Nothing horrible, happily 4 stars, maybe 3.75 really.
Hints of Nick Cave, Elbow and maybe Cohen. Quite twee and gentle. Nothing offensive. Just not really my cuppa tea.
Surprisingly brilliant. I literally didn't know what to expect having only heard the hits. But this album is banging. Lots of really great music in here! It's not perfection for me but it's a solid 4/5. At points I thought I'd fallen into a Floyd album it goes that prog, then to funk, disco and pop. The album flows and has definitely got something special about it!
It's fine, some good tracks but I still feel they're a "greatest hits" band for me. Just didn't get a buzz for it.
Wasn't for me I'm afraid, Tiny Dancer is a banger. Just felt like the rest was just missing something from it.
Yeah, well. It is what it is, isn't it. Will I be upset if I'd missed it. Not really. Track one got me right excited. Then it took a complete nose dive really. 2.5
There is some absolute monster tracks on this album. Well produced and funky beats throughout. Loved it.
Let's take some acid and try to get that 60s feeling back with some modern twists. Inoffensive some nice musical bits but really not my cup of tea since I stopped smoking the old Mary J...
Some good beats throughout. But for me it was a little lyrically lacking... was this a starter in the experimental/alternative hiphop scene? It's all I can imagine that would get it in this list as it's not a patch on some other hiphop albums I have in my rotation...
YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHH BOOOOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! Enough said there really, there's some really cracking early hiphop beats here and some pretty decent rap however, why did they keep Flava around? Flava is to Public Enemy what Bez was to the Happy Mondays except, Bez had the grace not to shout over Shaun Ryder constantly. 3.5
I always feel like I should listen to Björk more... atmospheric and beautiful.
Had to catch up today, had Gene Clark then Dylan, I think I was tired by this point. I just don't get it, or bad harmonicas.
Some good stuff here, enjoyed it thoroughly!
Reggae really isn't my "thing" but quite enjoyed a lot of this, easy to listen to not I always find it a bit samey though...
It's very randy newman... rednecks is a parody right.... right?!
There's some absolute classics on here aren't there! No surprise to see it in here at all! I do need to have a good listen again, as I felt through a lot of it "is this a Paul Simon album?" As there never seems to be much Art. Flow is a bit off, but just for the big hitters it's a good 4.5 for me.
Hey, at least it's only 25 minutes.
Songs to go to sleep to.
Just what I expected, it has that iconic sound of early 90s British indie. Nothing offensive, if a little bland at points. Still better than oasis!
I think it says a lot about my last 15ish albums to say that this was a breath of fresh air! I almost gave it 5 stars by sheer relief it wasn't going to make me sleepy
It did grow on me! The first few tracks are quite jarring but it settles down! Some really good tracks toward the end of the album, more of the Nick Cave-esque stuff we find later on! 3.5 stars really...
I'm learning as I go through this list, I like stuff that a little different. This album is a mixture of arty punk, grunge and some poppy bits thrown in. Lots of nice musical elements and experimental and a bit sexy. Really enjoyed it.
Decent American punk rock. Some of the lyrics obviously didn't gel with me but I got the idea.
I've loved this album for a long time, it's just a little bit unique and a little bit special. Very chilled but quite upbeat.
Really enjoyed, some really interesting stuff here. Talking heads really have a unique sound don't they?
I wish I'd found this album when I was in my teens, I'd have fallen in love with it. Some great music on here, felt genuinely sad that it had passed me by for so long!
Already one of my favorite albums of all time. Proggy, metally, experimental greatness!
Hey, is this Burt Jansch?
Been spoilt by Prog metal this week, not going to lie, it does tail off in the second half but thr first 20 minutes is prog heaven.
Are all these songs the same? Probably. 2 stars, purely as I liked the "interludes" theme.
Punky, catchy nothing more to say really! Reminds me of being 12ish and thinking I was really cool 😎
Didn't like it as much as "Fear of Music" but you can say this about Talking Heads, they're unmistakably them. Felt like they were trying to get too much sound on this album though.
I like the who, and there's some bangers on here, but some definite non bangers too.
There's a song on this album about unaliving yourself. You'll feel like it when you get there. Didn't make it to disc 2 of "extras" because who needs more of this dross.
The Funk/Soul bits are amazing, the Jazz bits I don't find hip. Middle of the road for me.
80s Rock needs removing. What were people thinking? I know the limitations, but the drums are beyond bad. Only overshadowed by the rest of this trollop
Please stop now...
Let's face it, this album is brilliant. There's some absolutely brilliant tracks in here, was some light relief after the last few days...
Some one thought this was a good idea, worse of all they thought it belonged in this list. You know what, maybe it is great, but I just don't get it. It's the same song for an hour isn't it?
I love some hip hop, this felt a bit too try hard. Nothing special in the lyrics and nothing special in the mixing. I know a few KL tracks and they're "alright" but this whole album felt a bit "meh".
Would it be bad to say, it's almost what I expected a whole Roxy Music album to sound like. Some of its OK, some of it was frankly rubbish. Middle of the road at it's finest.
It's simply a great Metal/funk/rap album. I honestly listened to this yesterday and thought, how could anyone not like it? Yes it's loud and in your face but it's funky as hell. Credit gets handed out to Zack and Tom all the time and rightly some but this albums is truly held together by Tim and Brad that rhythm section is absolutely tight as!
Yeah, the nice track at no.2 is decent. Shame the rest of the albums is new romantic obscura.
I love some distortion, but Christ and his mother... too much. It's like someone wanted to recreate a 60s Garage album and forgot to turn the distortion down, then smatter in some Gothic New Wave. Hard work this one.
As I've gotten older, i think I understood it better... some belting guitar links here and it works soooo well, as far as I'm concerned, in films and the like "Iron Man" a prime example. However, I can't help thinking that with a more exciting drummer (can't beat a standard 4-4 for the majority of the album) and a less screechy vocalist they could have been SO much better. I know ACDC are popular as f*ck, people love them, maybe because it's safe people rock, I don't know 😕 I don't hate it but I just don't love it. 6/10
Not for me.
I didn't mind it. Couldn't really gather what they were singing about most of the time. But some of the tunes had catchy little beats and riffs. If you like this but want it amped up a bit find Oteboke Beaver. Like this but wilder.
Is this what all country music sounds like? Yes.
How are they so massive. I'll tell you, keep it safe, appeal to the masses. There's some singles on here you'll know if you spent anytime in the last 20 years listening to Radio 2. It's OK, but is any of it exciting? Not really, Melancholy is the word, very twee. It just isn't for me. It's a 2.5 really just because I can see the appeal but essentially it's mainly dross.
You know sometimes you have an idea, you think about it for a few minutes and realise it's silly and/or borning. Don't go ahead with it... This is a bit harsh, but I'd had a long evening playing catch up and had already dealt with Coldplay and a country album and I wanted something to pep me up. This really didn't do it. Was it all just one song that slowly meanders along, possibly. Just felt bland, Funeral is an apt title.
Dear Coldplay, this is how you do it correctly. In my head this isn't a perfect album, there's a few tracks that miss for me but Paranoid Android is a solid 9/10 a long with the 2 bigger singles.
Musically, decent. Lyrically, like if someone got a teenagers diary from the north in the 80s and picked bits out. Vocally, droll. Not sure what the title track was all about, don't tell me about your mundane existence then complain that I eat meat.
I just don't really get it. It's alright but nothing special. I've tried U2 many times and they just do not click with me. 😕
First time I'd heard anything apart from "wake up Boo" which weirdly isn't on this album. It's OK, it's very bouncy, guitary, bit hippy revival. Once again on this list but nothing that has stood out for me....
I mean this could be any folky rock album from the late 60s early 70s truth be told. Nothing stood out, also nothing stood in.
Now this album is tricky for me, it came out when I was 13. I loved 70s rock and prog, my 9 year old cousin had \"found\" linkin park and was obsessed. Need I say more the walls just went up. I have tried since but it's just not my Jazz I find it all a bit too \"meh\". I know hard-core fans are really in to them but, leave me out, thanks.
Seriously?! First time an album has made me genuinely frustrated and angry on the list. How droll and boring is this, a couple of songs were OK for the first minute until I realised it was going to end up in the same place as the rest. There is flow, just like a syrupy river would flow, slowly and boringly to the next song, well it may have been the next song, I gave up caring after 15 minutes. I was listening to this thinking, if you're going to a National gig what are you doing, you aren't bouncing, not dancing are you just staring and hoping that eventually it will stop and you can go home? I couldn't even pick out any choice lyrics just droning. Until the doo doo doos in Lemon world? Then I shut down completely. Think this is the longest I've written on one album yet, that's how much it got under my skin. Try hard (badly), boring.
Aaaaaarrrghhh 25% of these albums can't continue to be folk/country/rock albums that don't know what they really are can they? They do all feel similar... very 60sish very indistinguishable from each other. It wasn't bad at all but was just there.
It's good innit. It's not my favourite Floyd album but it's certainly got its charms! Nothing quite like being at work listening to "Welcome to the Machine" though... 😬
Never actually sat down and actively listened to The Isley Bros. My God, there's some bangers on here. Funky soul throughout, pleasant surprise after so much Indie and folk rock recently. Will listen again.
Not my favourite album ever but had some awesome beats and rhythms. Easy to listen too, nothing really stood out on first listen, but will listen again.
Decent enough if you like psychedelic rock with falsetto vocals. Some hits, some misses for me but not bad at all. 3.5 really as it's got some interesting things going on.
What a voice, I love soul music and this album had that and more! Some funky blues hits in there too. It's not quite a 5 for me but it's creeping up there!
The king of funk soul. 'Nuff said. 4 stars for this as its just before the king started flying out some real face melting bangers.
It's a 3.5 for me, I really appreciate the mixing in the first few tracks. Not a massive fan of early hiphop but thinking about the work and precision that went into cutting samples back then baffles me. It's a shame the album fades into a ballad album with a weird homage track to Stevie Wonder else it could have pushed a 5 star from me!
Some great songs on here... however it's shockingly my first full listen to this album and a LOT of it just felt like an experimental jam session.
It's just not my cuppa tea. I quite liked some of it but on the whole not for me.
Very Jazz, but some great singles on here. Both of which I hadn't realised were Paul Weller to be fair. Not horrible singles picked it up.
There's some absolute belters on this album isn't there. Genuinely breathtaking. Brought me back to being a kid and discovering music in the early 90s. In recent years had a hard time listening for obvious conflicting reasons, but you can't deny it. This is solid.
EIIRP as an opener is one of my favorite Radiohead songs. I just wish the whole album followed suit. For large swathes of this album it felt like an Ambient music record and I lost interest. Some nice little bits but they are sparse. It gets 3 stars for the opener.
Not for me, just didn't get any vibes.
Who doesn't like blues and piano? Nobody, correct.
She has a voice like caramel, it's wonderful. Though some of the early tracks could be the same one on repeat musically, it picked up in the second half. A country album I didn't have to skip on! That for me is a success!
Is this just noise? It feels like just noise. How are there NIN tee shirts everywhere. Is this a bad NIN album? Is this the start of industrial? It gets a second star for the occasional break from fuzz to become melodies.
1st track lovely. Then this large section of shoegaze crap, then the last 3 or 4 tracks are really exciting. Real mixed bag, would totally listen to the B-side again
This is how I would like all the CnW you keep serving me, served please.
My third stones album in as many months... This is my favourite yet, raw and bluesy. I have found some of their stuff a bit too HONKY TONKY and not really my thing, this was decent though!
A mish mash of 80s sounding music somewhere between Duran Duran and ABC. Or maybe they inspired them all, I don't know it's just how I felt. Nasally drone vocals for the most part just didn't appeal at all.
Some great stuff on here, starting to really find their whimsical feet with an album that mainly seems to be about some medieval fantasy stories. Some great riffs and solos and well structured. Really enjoyed.
Yeah, it's ok. Some decent tracks. But just didn't really hit any peaks for me.
Never been quite as conflicted, there is mostly utter dross on here. Music that sounds like it was made by 15 year olds starting out. But there were one or two gems in the ocean of crap.
Track one, radio 2 classic. Banging opening. The rest very "meh"
Jack White is a modern hero of Rock and Roll. This album is no different to the rest of his work. Travelling across, rock, blues, country and binding it all together to make masterpieces.
Actually really enjoyed it, never been a big fan of PJs work but I really started getting into this.
Got to be some of the most classic and greatest Christmas bangers of all time.
Top 90s wutang album. Good beats and rhythms.
Definitively Bruce.
Better than the other one I had to listen to of his. I'm a hip hop fan, but Kendrick just doesn't grab me. King Kunta is a great tune though, and the production feels much nicer on this album. But they whole thing feels very much "throw everything at the wall, some bits WILL stick"
The singles are brilliant pop hits. They really are! The rest of the album is a bit "meh", felt very much like "let's try and make a new MJ". Again though that's off to the singles, they really are bangers.
Fortunately not available on Spotify, what a shame. I know the songs, how could I not. Born in the late 80s you either loved or hated these songs. They're ok aren't they? Let down a LOT by Liams screaching and "Arm from Manchester me, mayt" attitude. It's not rock n roll it's shite garage punk.
It has its moments but some of the tracks do go on...
Surprised myself in actual really enjoying some of this. I love some experimental hip-hop so this ticked a fair few boxes. Lots of lyrics still hold up as a reflection even of today's society.
Some odd choices on here, but also some very nice interesting pieces too.
This was a bloody great listen. Would listen again, great soul music. How it's never been on my radar before I'll never know.
Probably my favourite album as a teenager. Despite Bonhams squeaky drum peddle making the occasional appearance, an easy 5 stars.
Shame about the slower numbers because the disco classic hits on this album are genuinely brilliant. Just put out an album of those! We don't need the slow numbers, just give me 9 floor filling bangers please. However those hits here are masterpieces.
It wasnt as bad as I was expecting, although it was exactly what I expected. They're of a time and they do really make you feel like you're watching an old cowboy film.
You know what... I absolutely loved a good portion of this album. There was a couple of odd inclusions indeed, but the real Arabic tunes had amazing beats and rhythms genuinely brilliant.
I mean, it's my fault for signing up to this "quest" - this was not go to the gym music...
A really great hip hop album. Banger after banger. Wonderful stuff. B.O.B will forever be one of my favourite bops at the gym.
Yeah, its a great album, despite how much Kedis annoys me occasionally. I love Flea and John... Lots of songs remind me of my teenage years and having a good sing along. Good times
Bland, hey.
It's a great album, did feel a bit samey in sound at points. The big hits are top drawer still!
A suprising amount of songs you'll know, and yes they are all quite tragic.
They all sound a bit like that one single don't they?
Really enjoyed this, knew a few of the songs going in. Set me up to find a big riff playlist after I had Precious and Grace stuck in my head for a few hours.
This is one of the best albums of all time in my opinion. My love of TWS and Jack came from this, hearing Fell in Love... On music channels, dead leaves, hotel Yorba. The imagery, the musicianship, the riffs and Drums as I'd never heard them used before! I know the whole thing back to front side to side and word for word.
Lots of memories of being in the car, there's some wonderful tracks on here but you can see they're finding their feet with this one. Melodies are starting to form here of what we know to be classic REM.
If you like the blues, you like Muddy.
Yeah, it's definitely folk music. It is haunting and beautiful, the guitar work is also good. Folk music always feels a bit samey though I want it to go somewhere sometimes...
Some bangers in here, but far from Bowies best imho.
You know, I hate Dylan I really do and this album started off challenging. Bad singing, bad harmonicas everything I hate about Dylan. However it does warm up and there's one or two nice songs in here.
Some good tracks, would I listen regularly, probably not but I don't mind the old Pixies.
Two Bowie albums this week. Both have confirmed, sometimes you've got to dig through mud to hit the gems.
What genre is this? As it's not one I enjoy...
Really enjoyed this as background music at the gym. I don't think it's something I'd listen to on the regular, I imagine it would be great for testing out headphones...
This album holds lots of memories for me. I do love it from start to finish.
I did try. I did! But it isn't for me. I couldn't really find many positives either .. maybe it was a bit Gotan-y without a decent beat?
A few surprises on here... There's some songs that go past 2.30, that's a surprise! Although they are usually filled up with guitar intro fillers or a repeating outro. Stick with the quick punky blasts. Top stuff.
There's some bangers on here and some total crap. I can see how it's probably influenced a lot of artists though and has obviously tried to push boundaries.
I quite like some Kate Bush, but some of this album is a bit toooo out there isn't it??
There's definitely some bangers here but some of it does "go on a bit".
Reminds me of High school, I wasn't a massive hip hop fan back then, as I've grown up I've matured to enjoying bits, this album has some great beats and some very witty lyrics. Thoroughly enjoyed the majority!
It's ok, not the best Kinks album in my opinion by a country mile.
It's a great little album isnt it? Funky punky fun and exciting.
Wasn't as bad as I expected...
Really? It's like a bad prince album but worse somehow.
Take nothing away, Wanted... Is a great track. The rest is all I abore about 80s/90s 'metal rock' the same stupid guitar sound over every track. Bigger is not always better. Bon has some decent pipes, but thats about my lot.
Yeah, it's ok. I couldn't feel anything groundbreaking or unique about it though, unsure why it's here!
Yeah, well it was what it was.
Actually really enjoyed this, WD have been on my radar for a while but this is the first time I've bothered to spend the time with them!
Hmmmm
I knew the album as it's a regular on my listening list. It's a super album for me. Almost experimental prog funk. I CAN get into that.
Love and yet hate Radiohead sometimes. Some of the harder rocky bits are phenomenal then they add in some of the droning bits and I hope that it's building up to another mad crescendo but some songs just fade out miserabley. It's not terrible by any means I makes me feel like I'm missing out 😅
Sorry, the best words I can find are Fucking Wank.
It's a solid album isn't it? The occasional questionable lyric, but it was the 60s... Beatles doing Beatles things.
Great early hip-hop beats, if you don't agree I'll pull out all the Ya Mama jokes.
More punky than I expected to be fair, still not really great though, felt more noisy than musical.
Perfection isn't it? I mean for me it isn't Houses of the Holy, but it is bloody great.
That's Credence alright, only one band that sounds like Credence right? Right?
Zappa is bad, ay. Confused by the worldly love he gets. Zappa is the epitomy of throw loads of shit and some will stick.
I keep trying with the Cure. But just I can't.
Loved this, just had a niggle that after the bongo song, that catchy lock seemed to be quietly under every track after.
This is definitely punk.
Neil young is good but never really gets my juices really flowing. Vampire blues is a pearl though.
Americana folky.
This needs a second listen I genuinely can't tell if I love it or hate it...
Easy listening, nothing offensive, quite enjoyed.
I just don't get it... I genuinely thought track 2 and 3 were the same song for the last 20 years, so here we are.
There was some nice music on here, but by God did it get annoying with all the mentions of Melody and her crap.
For jazz, decent. Lots of what feel like show tunes from the early 40s and 50s...
This really was something, I'd imagine it was quite wild for early 80s hard rock. But ultimately pretty dire.
It's definitely Credence. I can't help but love them...
Like a poor imitation Beatles, formed in America to try and compete. One decent song and that wasn't the one about Randy scousers.
Rock samples and wicked beats. Some absolute bangers on here. Love it.
Decent, definitely Dire Straits.
If this is here as Claptons best stuff then we really need a review of what is his best work...
I secretly love a bit of Rush, they should be a lot of things I don't like about 80s rock but there's so much good in there too.
I loathe prince, even more so since this thing has thrown me 3 of his crap albums. Same shite but at least he was consistent.
Lovely is this little gem, happily listen occasionally for pleasure.
I think I get why it's here. Is it worth being here... Not for me.
Urgh, I'm sorry I just don't get reggae or the Bob Marley hype.
It's not my favorite Kate Bush stuff at all, it is 100% music you have to be just in the right mood for also, isn't it?
Sustain on the guitar, jangly melodies over that, lyrics that either don't make sense or too much sense. Hello, this is REM.
I just don't get it... There's a couple of Beyonce's singles that are bangers, but this album is dreadful.
Id heard of Shadow but never listened, gutted for me, I WILL be returning. Really really enjoyed this.
I sort of get it, but it's really not my cup of tea.
Does tail off, but first half of the album is magical!
Tricked me in thinking this was going to be a funky disco album with Street Life, upset me with smooth Jazz after that 😞
Went in worried came out loving it, not a massive fan of Lemmy's vocals but the music rocked.
Jesus wept. It's like bands like The National and Interpol even to an extent U2 decided to collaborate with a performance art student. I looked into them out of interest and they're critically acclaimed, who are these critics? Because 9 times out of 10 when I see that I know it'll be radio 6 fodder. (Not slating all R6 stuff but they play some absolute tosh in the name of "artistry") One star as the drummer seems to have some rhythm.
Funky, punky, hip hop beats. Proper good mash up that could only be the Beastie Boys.
Funky, groovy at points bizarre. But overall ok.
10 inch what now, who sucks on vinyl? Oh Oreosmith do. 2 half decent tracks maybe? The rest is pretty poor. Boring stuff for me.
Great album, some absolute belters.
Happily sad I listened, track one started ok, but it went quite poor after that. Some decent moments, but mainly forgettable
Yeah, not my favourite Madness stuff however great story telling of a time in England I would say. Just prefer the more fun and Ska stuff
This genuinely could have been any "indie" album from the late 90s absolutely nothing inspiring.
There's only one like Paul Simon isn't there? Not my favourite album of his but some great stuff.
Wasn't actually too bad, a bit too thrashy for my tastes but not horrible.
One top hit, the rest was fairly forgotten.
Acid folky psychedelic rock. Just isn't my thing .
I don't think it helped, I'd just finished the zombies. Too much acid 60s music in one sitting I'm afraid.
Not their best in my personal opinion, but decent enough...
Crank it up to 11, drive. Probably one of the greatest rock albums ever isn't it? The synchronicity between the guitar and organ, Lord and Blackmore, is phenomenal. I always forget how much I love this album till I put it on. Bonus fact, my late father once made a cassette he called "The Lazy Tape" which had every version of Lazy on it. Some of those love ones are epic!
Every song is a banger. Forget how much I love this album.
Great early 90s hip-hop, this album sets the tone for hip-hop throughout the 90s and early 00s. Amazing.
It's a bit like tame Prince, I really tried as there's a song or two I know by them that I really like. But one track led into another without much difference very bland before I knew it I was on the French side of the album thinking "is this the same song again?" This time it actually was!
Eventually I've got it - Music by Jay from The Inbetweeners" Absolute Dross. 3rd Prince album, all the same. Absolute dogshite.
What this has done is remind me how much I love this album and I don't listen to it enough! After two very punky albums this is the perfect balance of punky and melodic. Some absolute bangers. - side note find the footage of Skeletons performed at T in the Park with the bag pipers. Brilliant.
It's a bit "meh" isn't it. Felt like someone covering someone else all the way through.
As a soul fan I was hoping for more out of this .. but truly, you're only here for the single.
There were point where he wasn't trying to be Jim Morrison, I like them bits.
Just not a massive grunge man. It was decent enough. But nothing really jumped at me.
Just doesn't do it for me...
Well it's Elvis Costello alright.
Definitely The Jam. To be fair, no one sounds quite like them which I guess is a massive compliment. It doesn't really tickle my happy spot but decent enough.
Look, it's eerie and beautiful, haunting and captivating. Could I listen to it daily, god no. I like a lot of Nick Caves work but most of it is not music I can listen to endlessly for pleasure, but happy to dive into now and again. Namely if I'm feeling a little sad.
Funky.
Well, the clues in the title. Not great keeping music so quiet.
All of a sudden I was halfway through it again, only noticed because I thought, it's been on a while... In fact it may have been on the third time around. Does that mean it was repetitive?
There's a reason the singles are good, that's because they're a little bit different. Sometimes I feel like reggae gets too samey.
Boring aye...
Bloody not good with Folk music... Or folk rock. I have tried I promise...
Maybe with a different vocalist, things could have been better? Off time out of tune, sorry punky. The music wasn't too bad.
Was never a massive Nirvana fan but this album is really special.
Yawn, did exactly what it said on the tin. Snoozefest.
Decent pop album, did I love it? No. Was it better than some of the shite I've had recently? Shockingly, yes.
This was a relief after the last week or two of albums I've had. That's saying something isn't it...? But I do want to get on the Funkship. Probably getting an extra star because of the last lot I've had.
Exactly what I expected. Bland metal. Samey riffs. Bah.
I wish i had a bottle... To drown my sorrows in.
Mature Cheddar
I was looking forward to this. Then got disappointed. What a load of warbling.
I knew the 2 singles, and they're both bangers. I was hoping the whole album may end up the same. Was left disappointed. 3 stars but they're for frontier psychiatrist though as that song has given me lots of joy over the years.
Was tired when I listened, may have skewed my opinion but it didn't help keep my brain ticking.
Right, 65ish minutes of this 75 minute mammoth record is absolute tosh. It irks me to the point of anger that this band carried Peter Greens legacy to places like this. Don't get me wrong they've had a couple of decent tracks but the majority is shite saved by some occasional decent singing from Stevie Nicks. In truth they should have changed the band's name to Fleetwood McNicks and at least I wouldn't have to cringe when I tell people I like Fleetwood Mac. No wonder poor Pete went a bit mad... 😩
No better day to have this sort of music than when the sun is shining and you're driving round the countryside, this has probably led to it getting one more star...
I love Tom, but this isn't even close to his top 5 albums. Still some pretty lyrics and HaV is a banger.
Suprised by this, obviously an early runner in mixing albums leading to hop hop. However lots of African music which is always top on a sunny day and some other random bits thrown in for good measure. Totally get why it's here for a change and that makes me happy!
Perhaps Genius is a bit strong but... Yes maybe this is very "British" and of a time in my life where most of the quirky lyrics make sense, but even if you take away those elements, the music is phenomenal.
Just not into the old psychedelic stuff and this is particularly trash...
Decent, it's never something I'd listen to daily but I really enjoy it when I do! Lots of lovely harmonies and beats. Cant go wrong.
It's an album I loved as a teen, there's some absolute belters on here, is it as good as Fresh Cream? No. But it's still amazing.
Honestly, really enjoyed it. Shame I blinked and it was over.
2 great songs, the rest of the album was a bit crap. Never a fan of "live" records at the best of times.
Not a huge RnB fan, love some hip-hop. This album nicely strides a bit of both without over doing the warbling that RnB so often does. So banging tracks also.
Better than the last Tim Buckley album on the list, but still feels like someone trying to be Jim Morrison, imitation is fine I guess but Jim Morrison was crap too...
Jazz, it's jazz.
Metallica followed Megadeath for me this week. It could have been the same band and EVERYTHING I hate about 80s early 90s metal. Same riffs, with shitty guitar indulgences. Never seems to change up. It's just really not for me.
I live in a house with 2 massive slipknot fans. Both step children. I've always poopooed slipknot since they first popped up as they were very "mainstream" and the go to for sad kids around me. However, on reflection... Them drum beats are inescapable backed up by big riffs they create an awesome soundscape. I just feel it gets let down by silly vocals a lot. The singy bits are quite nice, there's just too much roaring. I always feel SOAD have a good balance with the singing to roaring ratio. Also it feels a lot of the lyrics here are a bit cringe and "white knighty"
Just a bit bland isn't it.
Second EBTG album, still not had their "big hit" so I'm worried there is a third that I have to endure.
Nothing quite like them I guess... Can't say I'm a fan though.
Bland. I don't get the hype.
Definitely Elvis!
Some absolute belters, but I can't lie I mowed the lawn while listening and it did all become one sound after a while. 4 stars purely for the big hitters though!
There's some Radiohead that hits for me and some that doesn't. This album is a mixture of both.
Industrial Punk? Think it might need a second listen, lots of noise first time out.
It has a sound and a feel, I don't hate it at all. Not one I'd return too.
Look, there a reason it's sold so many copies. It's a masterpiece. For me it isn't my favourite Floyd album but you can't not give it 5 stars as it's pure perfection.
Just not my cuppa... Just find it all a bit bland.
Is this Brit pop? Could have easily been a Blur album... Musically ok, but did it grab me, no.
Decent punk album, feels a bit too clean though doesn't it? Punk should never feel polished.
I can't lie, I didn't not like it... Will definitely give it a second listen, could tell it was a US punk rock outfit.
Again I ask myself, why is this in here. I suppose 1001 albums is a lot and there has to be some fluff as there's probably only 300 GREAT ones... 🤣 It wasn't too bad, but I don't know why it would be here...
Hasn't really made me change my mind about the majority of the BBs music.
You can't deny it, 95% is really fricking good. Despite the ironys just being poor luck. Was great to listen to it again all the way through, it's been a few years. Every single song is brilliantly produced, some beautiful words throughout and a top voice.
Boring.
Just not my thing at all. I don't even know what brand of music it is... Just lots of ambience with reggae/dub vocally bits?
Lots of classics, some classic Quagmire giggidy goos.
I don't like jazz, especially lounge room singing jazz...
I can remember anything about it. It sort of went on a passed me by. So boring.
Some ups and downs on here .. lots of musical nice bits and some dated crap.
Does what it says on the tin.
This is exactly the music I don't like. Almost made The National exciting.
Some bits were strangely good. I say strangely because the rest of the bits were bloody awful!
Decent, as I've got older I've learnt to appreciate Patti more. Patti Smith on the other hand... 🤣
This is not my kind of hip-hop, I know it's probably pretty early, but the whole thing is just a bit naff
Best of Van I've heard yet, however I felt most of the songs could have been 3 minutes shorter. 6/7 mins is fine if you're going somewhere but if you're just going to continue down the same path my brain doesn't want to know...
2 good songs, 2 absolute belters. The rest is very dated and not great at all. It can get an extra star for Money for Nothing though, and early song in my memory of "I think I like this guitar stuff"
I hate the Doors. Riders on the storm is ok, the rest is just convoluted crap.
I liked bits, but apart from the title track, nothing jumped out.
Stop at track two, you've heard them all.
Some banging classic grunge monsters on this album aren't there! Still don't get why they are so revered but they made some decent songs in an angsty sad kind of way.
Some bangers and some weird old psychedelic crap.
You know what? Better than the last Wilco album I got. Nowhere near as boring... But still no cohesion for me.
Can someone please tell me what I'm missing?
I shouldn't hate this, but I unfortunately do .. it's probably not their fault entirely, but one of my first flames really tried to push them on me and it was a right turn off...
My god, this is boring.
This will get a re listen. I'd always poopooed Ryan as it sounded to much like Bryan Adams, weird that isn't it. Struck me as what Dylan might have been if he could sing. Caught me off guard and I liked it.
Fun! Lots of rocky musicy stuff. Nothing outstanding, well apart from freebird obviously. Thankfully no SHA!
Some great tracks, I didn't need Mother today though, thanks John. No Ono screams helps too.
There's some bangers, but there's some absolute shite too, let's be fair. I always find Pet sounds a bit dark in places.
Nas has never been one of my favourite rappers. It's ok but to me it doesn't really click.
These albums are the reason I wanted to do this. A little gem I'd have never found by myself.
I really like Guy Garvey as a Radio host. But I've never got on with Doves melancholic northern blandness. There's probably a time and a place for it, in just yet to find it.
I just don't like them, wingy whiney plinky crap.
Look, it's far from the best Beatles album, but if you mine hard enough you'll find some gold. "Why don't we do it in the road?" Is also one of my favourites. Especially with the comic strip if you see it ever...
Started off very very bad and I feared for how much I could handle... Actually picked up in places.
Decent blues album, however I have never been able to properly enjoy Janis she always sounds like she's straining and screeching.
Really struggle with this weird ambient electronics.
Shockingly enjoyed the whole thing thoroughly. Great music and harmonies throughout.
I just think they're Hack. I don't like them, never have. I've never even really been able to put my finger on why either...
Started off really enjoyable, I love Neil's voice. Did go a bit odd towards the end though, is that just me?
Beats, samples, lyrics. That's hip-hop. Will go into the rotation.
Wasn't as bad as the last FC album on this list.
What an debut album this is btw. Riffs a plenty, big drums, big vocals. RIP Ozzy! 🥰
Is this all the same song over again?
Weird one, it felt like I'd heard every song before. Nothing really caught me, a couple of good songs but very samey.
I didn't hate this, will give it a second go for sure.
As far as souly RnB albums go, I quite enjoyed it. Wouldn't go back too regularly but would definitely give it another spin on a chilled out weekend morning.
Decent, hadn't really come across Common before, will definitely give it a second helping and look for more stuff.
Hadn't listened to this previously quite enjoyable for someone who isn't a massive fan of early 90s hop hop.
Not for me.
Damned Punky.
Everyone was dead set on Zep IV being the best but in my opinion II was always the best. Is JPJ the greatest rock bassist ever? Quite probably. Shall we throw a drum solo on this album? Why not. Shall we steal lots of music and not admit it? Yes, and that's probably the biggest bum note Zep pulled. Still I'd give it 6 stars if I could.
Good album, had heard it a long time ago, always forget to put it on, lead track is a mainstay in just about every playlist on my Spotify TBF.
Wasn't expecting it in here, but it would have been in mine! It's fun, funky, dancey, catchy, arty, poppy but all in a great way. This album was an a big one in my formulative years and probably explains why I love it so much. Even taking that out of it, it's a banger. Genuinely believe if you wanted pop music made by rock people for rock people, this is what you'd get.
Not a massive PE fan. Think there was much better hip hop acts about in the early 90s.
So incredibly 60s bore.
Don't get the hype for JayZ... Nothing ever really jumps out at me to be special. Just lots of "huh" and "yeah yeahs".
Knew I loved Songhoy Blues going into this and that doesn't change. That afrobeat, psychedelic blues mixture gives my heart much joy.
Shockingly enjoyed this more than I should have, poppy, pinky with some great hooks and beats.
Starts like a bad Air album and ended like a bad Mogwai album. Didn't seem much substance to it...
Just not a fan of folk, especially that late 60s American folly scene stuff...
I like The Who, I've watched Tommy, it's trucking bizarre, has such a loose storyline some of it is just absolute crap. With one or two good songs. Far from their best work and quite frankly probably their most drug inspired idea. 😅
Honestly, can't go wrong can you?
I don't like them. They're just a bit trash. Mainly due to a vocal issue.
Really enjoyable in a slightly rocky bluesy way, I knew Slade had a few songs that weren't completely "Glam" rock, but first time I've hit a whole album. Good stuff.
I often wonder if Paul really needed Art... Couple of bangers, some more folky bits that I'm never really sold on. Gets four purely for 59th street bridge song. Was a favourite of mine growing up.
Suprised me, I like a more mellow older Bob
I love Tom, this album is nowhere near his best though...
More polished than In Utero, but I don't mind that. It's an iconic album for a reason. Lots of great songs on here.
I've never been a huge fan of Layla to be honest, Bellbottom Blues is the best track on this album and that's a push. Absolutely killed Little Wing, and not in a good way. Unfortunately I went into this with low expectations album title, Layla and some other shite we needed to back it up with to sell a whole album is not a good start to wetting ones appetite with is it?
This is what I'm here for... Something I'd have never found that actually at points piqued my interests! It's getting an extra star as it caught me at a good time after wading through literal hours of crap.
I don't know ... I can see why a lot might like it. For me personally it's a earache.
Great mix of hip-hop and RnB
Is it over yet?
It's definitely Rod Stewart, and definitely not his best work.
How boring.
Ah crap, I have to admit there is some great songs on here... I can't really stand U2 for the most part too...
Decent, lots of different stuff. Albums like this refresh how I feel about this list, knew a couple of singles this album felt different and fresh and one I'd want to revisit
Pretty decent, can see the inspiration to other bands of a similar ilk.
I don't not like it. But I found I knew what was coming at the start of the album and wasn't disappointed. It's very Nick Drake-y
A couple of decent tracks and then lots of wishy washy.
This did grow on me a bit. Really liked the Zebra song.
Bah, was as I assumed. Just the type of rock I hate.
Musically pretty good, actually quite enjoyed much of it. Vocals are a bit wavy.
Was pretty decent for proper metal, need another listen when I'm in a ragey mood.
Boring. I've said that a lot on this list.. over a year in now can't lie, it's becoming hard work
Ah, day 365... My 1st anniversary... Lo! A third Cure album. How lucky am I? I genuinely don't know how I've made it this far. There has been some absolute crap over the last year... I won't lie, I'm wavering a bit if the next few weeks don't pick up I can see this project being dead by Halloween.
Sounded a lot like something/someone else.
I quite like some Gillian Welch, however a whole album at once I don't think is for me... 😬😅
I can see why guitarists like it. But the synth and drums just turn me right off ... Gives it that 80s hair metal vibe that I am just not about.
So boring. Honestly. Unlistenable in places.
Like Flaming Lips but more boring and less musical.
This album picks up towards the end, few tracks I really enjoyed. Good voice but it's not something that floats my boat regularly.
100% Elvis, doesn't get any more Elvis than Elvis.
First listen is good, will give it seconds and maybe thirds for luck. Had me feeling a bit At the Drive in...
This was a very chill album, catching me on a not very chill day. I should probably give it another go, but after the first 2 or 3 tracks it felt samey...
It's decent, I've know Green Onions for a long time, but there's something missing for me. Maybe it is words... It's great musically but feels a bit old very fast.
Muzak, but in Portuguese.
Always get suggested Pixies, like the stuff I've heard before. The album hasn't let me down, really enjoyed it.
It's not one I'll listen to often, but it gets you smiling and moving... Can't not give it a 4 for making you feel something other than rage, for a change!
Not often is say this and it's not really MY favourite genre, but take the last track out and I could listen to this album on repeat. Faultless in many ways.
It's nice enough, but my god is it boring.
You can't knock it there is some absolute banging singles on here! It's by far not my favourite genre at all... However, there is some very dated, over produced crap also.
My second favourite Tom Waits album, got a bit of everything on here, great lyrics and melodies. Love, love, love
First time I've listened to this all the way through, musically sound, lyrically whitty. Lots of turn of the century nuances funny quips about being British really.
There's a couple of MA songs I really like as the my seem to do stuff. None of them feature here, none of these tracks do anything...
It's definitely Beck!
I didn't want to say it, but how good is some of this album?? Her voice the production, you can't freaking knock it can you.
Consistent
The hits are great aren't they, the rest is a bit naff ... "Want a bit of Irish in you ..." Was a real turn off. 😅
Not bad.
Didn't mind it however I felt some of the musical choice to have the vocals down low and the guitars up high quite jolting. 😅
Like it when a nice hip hop album turns up on a day when you really need it.
Was suprised at how many hits I knew from this album! Pretty good innit!
Another reason to be here! Something completely different. I did feel that a few of the songs sounded like zither tributes to well known songs but couldn't quite place the song names! Fun listen though!
Some interesting pieces here. Nothing to write home about.
A suprisingly decent listen. A bit too modern hippyish for me but some nice bits.
Some great stuff on here.
Stuff like this gets me back on board, I'm sick of boring shoegaze and Brit pop. Give me world music and bits from interesting genres. Never listened to much industrial music but I really enjoy elements of this!
This album is a bit rubbish-ish
Forgot how much I appreciate this album, probably been 20 years since my last listen. Enjoyable!
Really enjoyed. How have I kept away from this for so long. Some great riffs in here.
Decent enough, nothing really jumped out at me though.
Great early 90s hip hop.
You play talking heads, you know it's talking heads. Know what I'm saying? No one else sounds like them.
Strange album, felt like lots of stolen bits from all of the shop. Bone of it felt real or authentic. Almost an AI quality to it ..
Some great stuff and some absolute mediocre stuff too. Mick Robson shines.
Brings out my inner hipster
Great album, experimental yes. But some of the songs here are perfect.
Song writers should sometimes stay as writers... I like a couple of Cohen tracks but some is so dry and droll its hard work.
Again, some lovely early 90s hip hop.
