Bryter Layter by Nick Drake

Love this album. I knew One of These Things First well, but never listened to the rest of the album.

Abraxas by Santana

A favourite album since I was a kid.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Jul 04 2025

Great rock sound, a bit of funk. Wars of Armageddon is a little more experimental; by the time the fart sounds came in, I wasn't even surprised.

If You Can Believe Your Eyes & Ears by The Mamas & The Papas
Jul 05 2025

California Dreaming is one of the best songs ever created. It is definitely the best song on this album.

Guero by Beck
Jul 07 2025

An incredible albmum.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Jul 08 2025

I am not a fan of JM, but I recognize why she is popular and helped shape and define an era in music and culture. I also recognize the quality and importance of this album, hence my high rating. I never go out of my way to listen to Joni; I often don't like her voice and don't love all of her lyrics, BUT recognize that's a me thing. I will say, I added Raised on Robbery to my Classic Rock playlist. And I will say, I did not dislike listening to this album, and wouldn't even be upset if I had to listen to it again.

Good album, great band, however I tend to find many of REM's songs to be a bit more background music; I don't often really focus on them other than a few of them.

The Number Of The Beast by Iron Maiden
Jul 15 2025

I've never enjoyed Iron Maiden. And I feel like all of their songs sound like the same song, but I recognize that is just because I'm not a fan and don't listen extensively to the genre. I also recognize their contribution to rock.

Never heard of them. Very much enjoyed this album.

This album is so peculiar. Sound-wise, it's awesome. Each song has amazing arrangements, and interesting melodies and harmonies. But the lyrics are often odd, and Hotel's lyrics are questionable at best. Hotel needs some new lyrics, but is otherwise a great song.

I don't mind the odd song by Dinosaur Jr. in a playlist, but after listening to two albums, I can't really tell each song apart.

I like Dion's older stuff, and I love the Spector Wall of Sound production on the songs that have it. But I just had a really hard time getting through this album. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood for it, but I found it meh.

I love Fiona. Even when I don't love certain songs of hers, I will always listen; she's very striking in her lyrics and accompanying music. This album started off a little too musically experimental for me, though, as usual, her lyrics are interesting and kept me listening. I enjoyed the last two thirds of the album a lot more. Apparently, the percussion on this album is largely improvised; sometimes this seems obvious, and other times less so. This album is definitely one that many should listen to, if they are Fiona fans.

It's as bouncy as the album name suggests. Full of Honky Tonk, a hint of Cajun. An enjoyable listen.

Feb 09 2026

I find this one difficult for me to rate. On the one hand, I can see the clear lasting impression they made in music, be it dance music, experimental, or motion picture soundtrack. This album feels like it should be backing a suspense/thriller/horror film. However, on the other hand, as an album in and of it's own, I had a very hard time listening to it. I found it too long, too boring, and too repetitive. My rating reflects my own enjoyment of the album for the most part, bumped a little for their impact on soundscapes and music. That being said, I am also not typically an electronic music lover. So, my rating is flawed.

Music by Madonna
Feb 20 2026

Although I was born in the early 80s and have living memory of most of Madonna's career, I have only ever owned two of her albums: Ray of Light, and Music. Ray of Light was a big shift in her style, and Music seemed like the logical next step: a refocus on pure pop. It also feels like a shift from leading the charge in the next pop music direction to hearing a sound that will be popular and mimicking it just before or just after it becomes the main sound. That being said, she was still good at her job, and this album had at least two hits and a couple of others that reached radio play. Every song on the album is different. While not every song is hit worthy, most are enjoyable. When this album came up in my list, I was a little surprised. I'm not 100% sold on it needing to be on this list, however, after giving it a fresh listen, I am reminded that it is an overall decent pop album with some real bangers. Points deducted for American Pie, obviously.
