Popular Reviews

Alien Lanes by Guided By Voices

Music for people with short attention spans

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin

Excellent album from the Queen of Soul. I got to see her perform at the Opening Ceremony of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games and she put on a great show

Ys by Joanna Newsom

was the woman on the cover forced to listen to this and is now about to slit her own throat with the scythe?

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson

A couple of good songs but I wasn't overly impressed with the album. Two or 3 of these songs were hits in the 70s but I didn't realize this artist did them.

Crazysexycool by TLC
Aug 03 2025

can't wait for this album to finish

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Aug 04 2025

album is quite listenable and has some good cover songs. Nice guitar work too.

Music From Big Pink by The Band
Aug 05 2025

a great debut album with a nice mix of songs including the classic "The Weight." I recently visited Levon Helm's boyhood home in Marvell, Arkansas

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Aug 06 2025

a nice album with Willie's interpretations of classic songs

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Aug 07 2025

how have I never heard this before?

Tommy by The Who
Aug 09 2025

a groundbreaking concept album with several notable songs that made it onto the radio. I have seen the movie "Tommy" several times but had never listened to the entire soundtrack. Quite good!

Something/Anything? by Todd Rundgren
Aug 10 2025

Thankfully, YouTube only had half of this long double album so I was spared the pain of listening to the whole thing. A couple of the songs were OK, most were garbage. The 2 radio "hits" are mediocre at best. I always thought one of them was by Carole King. Sorry to disparage you Ms. King!

Phrenology by The Roots
Aug 11 2025

good album. Nothing really stands out about it

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Aug 13 2025

a brilliant songwriter and good guitarist. A few classics and some not so great tracks. His rendition of Hank Williams' "Oh Lonesome Me" was terrible.

Graceland by Paul Simon
Aug 14 2025

I'd never listened to the entire album. A few songs saw heavy rotation on MTV and the radio back in the 80s. Very good mix of music and musicians

Sunshine Hit Me by The Bees
Aug 15 2025

not sure why this was on the list. Not offensive but nothing really stands out either

Moondance by Van Morrison
Aug 16 2025

The song "Moondance" has one of the best bass lines ever. The rest of the album is fair

Alien Lanes by Guided By Voices
Aug 17 2025

Music for people with short attention spans

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Aug 18 2025

ok album. YouTube has a "deluxe" version that is nearly 3 hours long. No thanks. He should be smoking a blunt on the cover :-)

Trafalgar by Bee Gees
Aug 20 2025

why did I need to listen to this pos before I die? Some of the music is ok, but Barry Gibb's voice is grating and the songs get worse as you go. This is what would be playing non-stop in Beelzebub's domain

Metallica by Metallica
Aug 29 2025

Pretty good album. It was pretty popular when it came out. Hadn't heard some of these in ages.

Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones
Aug 30 2025

Great album I listened to many times as a teen. I have it on vinyl with the working zipper album cover. Awesome to listen to through headphones. Lyrics to Brown Sugar are terrible but the music rocks. Love the blues numbers and the country twang in Dead Flowers. A classic!

Leftism by Leftfield
Sep 01 2025

ok album. Not sure why it made the list of "must hear" music though

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Sep 02 2025

another turd that I definitely didn't need to hear before I die

Scum by Napalm Death
Sep 03 2025

an amphetamine fueled piece of garbage from some Dead Kennedy wannabes. The lyrics are completely unintelligible. It's fitting that this shite was released on Earache Records. The guitarist is ok and the drummer is well, fast. At least most of the 28 tracks are short (the album is just over 30 minutes long)

Odelay by Beck
Sep 04 2025

mid 90s flashback

Led Zeppelin II by Led Zeppelin
Sep 05 2025

I listened to this many times growing up. It was a great album to listen to through headphones after burning one. John Paul Jones doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Jimmy Page is one of the best guitarists ever. John Bonham was a wildman on the drums and percussion. I could do without Robert Plant's wank session vocalizations

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Sep 06 2025

an amazing debut album. I had forgotten what a classic this was

Sep 07 2025

not stellar. They could have edited out a bunch of random noises and people talking but not saying shit

Microshift by Hookworms
Sep 08 2025

electronic noise with largely unintelligible lyrics, possibly created by parasitic nematodes on acid. The "musicians" wouldn't even put their names on this piece of shit

Drunk by Thundercat
Sep 10 2025

I thought this may be good with a name like "Thundercat." How wrong I was!! I don't even know how to describe it. It's not even decent background noise as the music sucks and that castrato voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard. Couldn't wait for this piece of shit to end

The Modern Dance by Pere Ubu
Sep 11 2025

strange instruments add unnecessary noise to otherwise ok songs. At least the album was short

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Sep 12 2025

not a fan a jazz but Mr. Davis is a talented trumpet player. Music was ok. Keyboard/synthesizer detracted from the sound.

Dust by Screaming Trees
Sep 14 2025

Not bad. Nothing particularly stands out except for the ripoff of Hank Williams Jr's "A Country Boy Can Survive" in their song "Dying Days". I had to have heard this while I at university, but I don't remember. I can hear Beavis and Butthead ripping on this "this sounds like college music hehehe"

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Sep 16 2025

ok for background music. Album is nice and short

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Sep 17 2025

some good songs. "Fast Car" was really overplayed when it came out.

Elastica by Elastica
Sep 18 2025

great mid 90s Britpop. A favorite album of mine for many years

Sep 19 2025

I've never liked Frank Sinatra and this album did nothing to change my opinion of this over-rated hack. Five versions of "The Girl from Ipanema" is beyond excessive. Absolute shite!

Sep 22 2025

I don't know who Eli is but if this album was playing in the interrogation room, I would confess to stealing the Hope diamond, kidnapping the Lindbergh baby, setting the Reichstag fire or any other heinous accusation to make it stop.

Cloud Nine by The Temptations
Sep 23 2025

Good psychedelic soul on side A with a more standard sound on side B

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Sep 24 2025

Excellent album from the Queen of Soul. I got to see her perform at the Opening Ceremony of the 1996 Atlanta Paralympic Games and she put on a great show

Rejoicing In The Hands by Devendra Banhart
Sep 25 2025

Another "why the hell is this album on the list?" selection. Decent guitar but this was tedious

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Sep 26 2025

Many classics on this album.

Low by David Bowie
Sep 27 2025

A couple of decent songs and some good guitar work. "Low" is an apt title for this album as I felt lower than a snake's belly in a ditch after listening to the second half of it.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Sep 28 2025

Noise with repetitive "lyrics"; absolute shite.

Moving Pictures by Rush
Sep 30 2025

I've never cared for Rush and listening to this album solidified my opinion. Geddy Lee's voice sounds like sheet metal being crammed into a woodchipper. Synthesizers were annoying as well.

Sulk by The Associates
Oct 01 2025

The title of track 2 pretty much sums up my reaction to this album: "No"

16 Lovers Lane by The Go-Betweens
Oct 03 2025

Pleasant enough but nothing really stands out

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Oct 05 2025

Most of the cuts were way too long. Extended solos were tedious

Wild Is The Wind by Nina Simone
Oct 07 2025

First track was not bad but the album got progressively less enjoyable after that. Sounds like the house band in the cocktail lounge at the Holiday Inn Hoboken circa 1960.

Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants
Oct 08 2025

Some of the music is ok but it's not a great sign when the drums are the most notable part of many tracks. Lyrics are shite and the vocalist manages to make them even worse. Title track is awful.

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
Oct 09 2025

Pioneers of the Seattle sound from the 80s and 90s. Hard, guitar driven rock

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Oct 10 2025

Another turd where my favorite song was the final track because the assault on my ears would soon be over. The strange noise coming from my refrigerator is equally as pleasurable to listen to

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Oct 11 2025

A couple of good songs but I wasn't overly impressed with the album. Two or 3 of these songs were hits in the 70s but I didn't realize this artist did them.

The New Tango by Astor Piazzolla
Oct 12 2025

Sounds like the score of a Bugs Bunny cartoon

Darklands by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Oct 13 2025

Was ok. I expected it to rock harder though

Ragged Glory by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Oct 15 2025

Ragged? Yes. Glory? None. Neil Young is a good guitarist but someone should have told him to leave the vocals to someone else loooong ago. His raggedy ass voice prompted me to fast forward through most of the songs

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Oct 16 2025

Enjoyable. I didn't even mind the 10 minute long final track

Midnight Ride by Paul Revere & The Raiders
Oct 17 2025

A couple of classic songs, a few turds, and a weird spoken track in the middle

Tres Hombres by ZZ Top
Oct 18 2025

Something good that came out of Texas. ZZ Top rocks! Some classics on this album

Palo Congo by Sabu
Oct 19 2025

This quickly became tedious. Guitar is interesting though

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Oct 20 2025

I've loved The Stones since I was a wee lad

On The Beach by Neil Young
Oct 23 2025

Another Neil Young album...meh. The final track is terrible and drones on for nearly 9 minutes. Thank goodness it's over

Aja by Steely Dan
Oct 28 2025
Debut by Björk
Nov 04 2025
Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Nov 24 2025

This was terrible. I utilized the "skip track" button several times. The drummer isn't too bad but the electronic noise is shite.

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Nov 25 2025

This gets my vote for most overrated album of all time. Most of the songs are absolute garbage and his castrato voice is cringe.

Queen Of Denmark by John Grant
Dec 04 2025

Unlistenable garbage, kind of like an eighth grader's diary read over shitty music

Green by R.E.M.
Dec 05 2025
From Elvis In Memphis by Elvis Presley
Dec 06 2025

Elvis had definitely discovered pharmaceuticals by the time this album was recorded. He's slurring and mumbling on some of the songs. Cover of "I'm Movin' On" is mighty tired compared to the original by Hank Snow

Close To You by Carpenters
Dec 07 2025

Sounds like the house band at the Holiday Inn - East Peoria

Sweet Baby James by James Taylor
Dec 08 2025

A couple of classics and a few other suprisingly good songs

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Dec 10 2025

a couple of decent songs and a bunch of filler

Atomizer by Big Black
Dec 11 2025

never heard of this noise creation collective and I'm ok with that

White Ladder by David Gray
Dec 15 2025

music to battle insomnia

Ghosteen by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Dec 18 2025

couldn't make it through this sad, mopey pile of shite

Black Monk Time by The Monks
Dec 19 2025

an interesting mid 60s time capsule

Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Dec 22 2025
Arrival by ABBA
Dec 30 2025

even the "hits" suck on this album

a couple of good songs and a bunch of filler

Berlin by Lou Reed
Jan 21 2026
1977 by Ash
Jan 23 2026
Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jan 24 2026

would rather have listened to the goats for 38 minutes. highly over rated imo

Music by Madonna
Jan 29 2026

this cover of the classic song "American Pie" should be a crime

Medúlla by Björk
Feb 04 2026

this is the soundtrack playing in the waiting room at the Gates of Hell

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Feb 07 2026
Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Feb 14 2026
Feb 26 2026

sounds like a teenager's journal read over a beat from a 1990's era drum machine. Shite!

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Mar 01 2026
Brilliant Corners by Thelonious Monk
Mar 05 2026

I can hear Monk's influence on Terry Adams of NRBQ, but still don't care much for jazz

Songs Of Love And Hate by Leonard Cohen
Mar 08 2026

a tedious slog through a dreary, dank dirt alley in a rainstorm

Grace by Jeff Buckley
Mar 17 2026
Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Mar 23 2026

None of the Radiohead albums on this list have changed my view that this band is highly over-rated and most of their songs are barely listenable. I would give it one star, but I will reserve that rating for the even worse albums that made it onto this list

First Band On The Moon by The Cardigans
Mar 26 2026

The cover of "Iron Man" included on this album is a crime against humanity.

Mar 27 2026

The only song I could relate to was "Reclaim My Place" where the singer is screaming "What the fuck?" over and over. WTF indeed. I could feel brain cells dying as I listened to this noise.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Mar 30 2026

How could you omit Champaign (Paris on the Prairie) from an album about Illinois? This snoozefest is barely worth 2 stars

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.

The Nightfly by Donald Fagen
Jul 29 2026

2 stars only because there are worse albums on the list

Arise by Sepultura
Jul 30 2026

"Infected Voice" indeed. Now my ears are infected after listening to this shite

Eliminator by ZZ Top
Jul 31 2026

This is the album where ZZ Top jumped the shark. Not the same band they were in the 1970s to be sure. The car on the album cover symbolizes the enshitification of music brought about by videos and MTV.

Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Aug 06 2026

Sounds like something that sadistic German prison guards would play on an endless loop to drive inmates insane. This collection of noise is currently ranked second from the bottom on this list, just below Kid Rock. I can hardly wait to hear Throbbing Gristle

Tank Battles by Dagmar Krause
Aug 07 2026

The soundtrack to someone's nervous breakdown
