There may be many things AC/DC are not, but one thing they really ARE is fun. And sometimes that’s just what you need. Take my stars…

This is audio performance art. It doesn’t have to make sense and you don’t have to immediately understand what it’s all about, for it to get to you. From what I’ve read, if you saw them live you also got the visual performance art to go with it - which I’m sad, but also relieved(?) to be missing out on. Ultimately this was interesting, and engaging enough that I listened all the way through - which can’t be said of some of the very mid, bland, inoffensive pop albums on this list. So I’m giving it more stars than it seems most people have done.

I appreciate how good this is, and how accomplished. However, it’s Radiohead so it’s depressing. It didn’t help that I listened to it while driving in a heavy fog/rain, at night, as the seasons are turning into a very damp autumn, but holy Jebus the melancholy is thick. I’ll give it another listen (probably many more), but the way it made me feel makes me reluctant to give it 5 stars.

I love this album. I first heard it aged 14 or 15, making my way through my parents’ cd collection. Back then I had a habit of listening to an album on my Walkman, in bed, to help me get to sleep. Lying there in the dark noticing every detail of the music. This was one of my favourites from doing that. Lemme tell you, it was such a joy to come back to it 15 years later and find I love it even more. Not a single track I’d be inclined to skip. Is it uncool to like REM? I don’t know and I don’t care, this slaps as the kids say these days. ;)

Lovely in some places, interesting and engaging in places, a bit too much Billy Corgan in others. I enjoy the instrumentals very much but I find his voice a little too whiny and OTT at times and it ruins things a bit. Also 2 hours of smashing pumpkins is a bit too much smashing pumpkins for me. Overall I like this album, in small doses; the whole thing is too long.
