Basement Jaxx

9/10 I remember this from the time, where it cont be understated how huge and omnipresent it was. But I expected to to be a sold 3 or shaky 4. But this has aged extremely well. A few songs are still in my rotation, but the bench is deep here. so much fun. Basically a house album, but flavours of techno and dancehall amongst others. This came before grime and some of the US hip hop of today that must take influence from it. Best: Jump ‘n Shout

Orbital

8/10 Finally some decent electronic music, which this list severely lacks. Will be curious to see if there is more from Orbital, because there are definitely better albums than this. This still sounds great, classic 90s dance music with that signature orbital synth sound. You can feel how some of this influenced work that came after, like Duck Feet having a definite Boards of Canada vibe. Best: Philosophy by Numbers

8.5/10 Another one I know well and like. Would have loved to give it 5 but it’s not quite there. Poppy hard rock with proggy edges. It is undoubtedly silly, and the Muse conspiracy theory stuff is weird, but at least it is self-aware. That makes the sillier stuff fun. They definitely like Queen and Radiohead, but the inspirations are very wide. It starts off sounding like Glass! Best: Map of the Problematique

7/10 Another one I knew from the first time round. This was a sensation at the time and now has a handful of well-loved songs on it. The rest is extremely energetic punky songs, full of youth but not the highest quality. I have really enjoyed the last 2 or 3 AM albums so this one is a little rough around the edges for me. Best: I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

9.5/10 I have heard this before, but forgot what a beast it is. Probably the best of the hippie era rock albums that I’ve heard. Folky, baroque, with amazing production and incredible use of brass Songwriting is excellent, really McCartney-esque in places Amazing vibe runs through this, sounds so fresh Jack White clearly liked this Best: Alone Again Or
