Elevator music x spanish tourist trap
can appreciate but never need to listen to again.
Great for background music or when you just want to relax. Feels a bit like being in an elevator but still good
chillig aber halt jazz
jazz halt nh (sorry sebastian)
Interesting
Yeah a little bossa, a little nova, not bad
Jazzy peaceful
Good for what it is but a full album of samba was never going to make it into my rotation
I liked it. Good solid jazz!
Pleasant background
3/5
The boring-est guy in jazz slowly lurches into frame to presumably play "The Girl from Ipanema" on loop. Wait a second, Charlie Byrd is the guitarist?! I have no idea what that means. Pressing play left me pleasantly surprised with this record. I get the occasional whiff of that background bossa nova, but the jazz passages took center stage here and they were very nice. The guitar playing was also superb. This isn't challenging by any means, but a pleasant listen nonetheless. Now instead of Bossa Nova, we need a few records in the genre of Bossa Nassa, where the that big fat CGI guy from the Phantom Menace is just shaking his face crazy style for 30-45 minutes. Now THAT is an essential listen. 3 HIGHLIGHTS: Desfinado, Bahia
i’ve got mixed feelings about samba. that first tune is a classic tho
It’s a nice record. As somebody who’s not really in to this genre I probably don’t listen to it as in depth as someone who listens to this sort of thing regularly would, I see it more as ambient, chilled background music. I really find it quite similar to ‘Getz/ Gilberto’ which I also enjoyed back when I listened to that. All the instruments sound really neat and I can appreciate the fact that these were true professionals at their craft. Unfortunately it’s just not something I’d listen to on a day to day basis. My favourite tracks are: ‘Samba De Uma Nota So’.
Solidly bossa nova - cool and smooth jazz. Nice clear sound, quite pleasant to listen to. Amazing that this was all recorded in one day - apparently in just three hours - presumably largely improvised solos. Percussion just goes and goes, imperturbably. Would I play it again? Yes - but only as background music. Does any of it rock my world? Not in the slightest. So, it's Okay (not bad) ie 6/10.
I mean it's fine, not my favourite tho
usually not my style but very nice!
vibey
Bosso nova isn't in my wheelhouse. apparently, this album was the start of the scene. i can appreciate the level of musicianship and the first song was catchy. per my book, it only taken Getz and Byrd three hours of improv to record this album (in a Washington D.C. church) which is amazing. it spent seventy weeks on the Billboard 100.
Geen jazz fan. Dit was toch leuk even te luisteren
Saved? ✅ Would listen again? ✅ Would recommend to anyone? 🤔 Would buy on Vinyl? ✅
I mean, it’s pleasant background music.
#3/1089 --------- It's definitely great for its time. I love the saxophone work in this record, and it's a jazz style i have never heard before. My biggest complaint with this is that it's not very... distinct, sound-wise. Most of the songs are very similar between each other. Favorites: Desafinado, Bahia Least favorites: Samba dees days, Samba de uma nota so Rating (out of 10): 7.5/10
overall, this album's pretty nice for my first day! could i tell the difference between any of the songs if i was blindfolded? no, but they're good nonetheless. i might add some of these songs to my jazz/bossa nova playlist... numerically, i think i'd place this at a solid 3.5/5. this has way more soul than the crap that plays on the radio now.
I can dig a little Samba/Jazz, well Jazz /Samba really. Decent listen but can’t get higher than a 3 though.
I guess if you add some samba to jazz then it isn’t as bad? Not a bad listen for background music but kind of blends together with a lot of stuff in this genre. Maybe I’m a music simpleton. 2.5 but feeling generous and rounding up.
Pretty solid for a chill listen but didn't blow my mind muscle. 3.25/5
Solid but not more
very chill which I imagine it's not supposed to come off as
It's nice for studying.
Nice. Kinda loses steam about halfway through.
Pleasant easy listening, from better days gone by.
Ok
Nice sounding jazz I have very little knowledge of the genre, so there's little I can compare this against, but found it to be an enjoyable listen. For me at least, better as background music then something to actively listen to. But hopefully with some exposure to other jazz albums I will have a better sense of what makes one truly great.
Samba De Uma Nota So brought me some hard The Sims vibes and it was funny as I was imagining myself decorating a house in the game. Overall decent listen, not great, not bad,
I imagine this album as two people who is on a date, surrounded by flowers and fuzzy feelings in a warm-lit room with a dice pattern on the restaurant's floor and one of them is probably working on a secret top mission because they're a spy. The songs are a vibe and it calms me while I do my work. Even though it has no words, it feels as though the sax is speaking with me. Feb. 09, 2026 (5PM)
Easy to listen to, very relaxing. Perfect for morning coffees.
Very nice and easy to my ears, will probably study to it in the future.
This entire genre feels wasted on me at the moment, as I really lack the experience to judge it fairly. It's easy to appreciate the musicianship on display here, with all instruments making the cleanest, tightest sounds they can make. Combining it all together makes for music that is very easy on the ears, but no track stands out from the rest and it all sounds like one large continuous track at times. That said, the strings on "Samba de Uma Nota So" did stand out to me and were gorgeous. Again, I have to chalk this up to my fault rather than that of Getz and Byrd. I am super open to listening to more Jazz and trying to understand more of what makes one Jazz track great compared to another.
can be cool when cooking
Listened to this once while out on a walk, but I feel it's better suited to listening at home and really absorbing. I love the first two songs + the beats throughout, really makes me wanna wiggle me hips
Jazz is perfect background music for a lot of scenarios, but it's not something I put on to listen to. If this album was playing in a restaurant, or was the music accompanying a video game level, or even if I saw a live band playing some of its songs, I feel like I would appreciate it more. While jazz can sometimes all blend together, the songs on this album do typically stand out from one another. Favourite song: O Pato
Calm restaurant/ elevator music or for a late evening
It’s good I’m not the craziest jazz enjoyer tho
Pleasant enough, although not really my jam. Solid to have as background music, not so intricate that it demands a lot of attention, the sounds of cocktails and smoothly dressed people smoking cigars.
Ça ronronne gentiment.
2/7, 29%
jazz never fails
Favorite track(s): Desafinado, E luxo so
3/5 nice background music best: -
This is my second Stan Getz album in four days, and this one is just as pleasant. I think I liked Getz/Gilberto more simply because this one was purely instrumental and I liked having the vocals on G/G.
Wonderfully relaxing. I enjoyed this album very much.
Not a fan of chill jazz. I much prefer when it’s more energetic and chaotic. This album is fine. But it’s just background music that doesn’t stand out.
Bossa Nova and Smooth Jazz if they had a child- repetitive but relaxing, and fully instrumental.
Nice Album to be playing in the background, not exactly my vibe but overall solid album!

I have listened to jazz just a little bit before this and have enjoyed it in the past. I very much enjoyed this album to, will definitely be listening to it again. Definitely seems like a album ahead of its time.
Two Americans showed up, stole our music, and turned it into some pale, soulless elevator jazz.
First jazz album I’ve been given. My jazz listening has been super limited. I always enjoy it when I give it time but it’s really not something that sticks with me as much. Probably not a big relisten album for me. The first real Charlie Byrd I’ve knowingly listened to too. I do like the samba jazz mix.
Really not a fan of jazz, but this wasn't too bad.
Jazz + samba is the easy listening hybrid you didn't know you needed. Pleasant, classy, not at all exciting but good to throw on in the background.
Fine, but my brain just didn't latch on to it.
Enjoyed this. Would prefer to listen to songs individually rather than the whole album at once.
Nice! … a favourite of jazz club host Louis Balfour and possibly second technician Arnold J Rimmer BSc. SSc. With bosa nova it can be hard to tell the difference between easy jazz easy/listening and sometimes Muzak. This is really easy to listen too but is not easy listening. Nice! Sums it up
89/1001 First listen. I know what I don’t like and this isn’t it. 5/10
Decent listen
6.0/10
fine, just boring
spoko tak do povibowania ogl chyba nje moja muzyka taka do posluchania w tle
i didn’t like how there were not any lyrics, but if i heard this album at a club😻😻
Not my favorite of Getz but still good
Despite being quite into Jazz music my only real experience with Bossa Nova rather embarrassingly comes from the Austin Powers theme tune. That said, I went into this excited for what I might hear. It’s all very palatable and easy to listen to. It certainly isn’t the most challenging Jazz album you’ll ever hear. However, it is also incredibly smooth, well played, and pleasant to the ear. The playing from both Byrd and Getz is right on the money if not taking many risks. The legato in Byrd’s guitar playing is like velvet and is something that can be incredibly difficult to produce with a plucked string instrument. A very chilled out and peaceful listening experience and an album that I would recommend to anyone interested in Jazz guitar or indeed Jazz music in general.
All around nice samba music. Makes me miss playing in a jazz band. Top: Samba Dees Days Not Top: O Pato
I generally don't listen to jazz or anything adjacent to it but I really liked this. The vocals on the first track actually fit the overall feel of the album and the percussion was really nice, though I felt like it could've done more in certain moments. I enjoyed it, but it's not really my style, maybe it's more like something my mom would listen to.
I'm not a jazz afficionado so my take on this isn't as glowing as I'm sure it could be. This is nice. Great background music for a get together where conversation is more important than people gigging out. No one needs to hear this before they die. Solid 3 though, very talented musicians.
Jazz with distinctive sax sound
Was a bit slow and unengaging for me, but not in my wheelhouse. Listened to about 3/4 of the album. Giving 3 stars, meaning average.
Not my usual genre but it's really chilled listening. Definitely calmed any thoughts of road rage! Just over half an hour so an easy 1st album listen.
Typische fahrstuhlmusik wo links Saxophone und Rest rechts ist. Iwie doof nicht so meins aber sehr gut gemacht
too jazzy, for my taste
Jazzy
Before listening: great … another jazz album During listening: like it more than Herbie Hancock, aligns more with my idea of what jazz is. Overall pretty pleasant listening experience. After listening: it was pleasant and upbeat, felt little like I was waiting for a representative to pick up the phone, not mad at it but won’t be listening to it again anytime soon. Before listening: 0/4 songs After listening: 0/4 songs
Hard to rate as not anywhere near my cup of tea.
Upbeat jazz instrumental. Elevated elevator music. A pleasant listen while working.
I don’t have a ton of time for jazz records, but this one is pretty solid. I don’t mind having this one on in the background, and I’m not even generally too hot on Latin musical flavors. But I like the tones of the sax here. 3.5/5
This was relaxing
This is pretty enjoyable and that’s kind of the most I have to say about it. These people are probably some of the pioneers of this type of music or something so I probably am not giving them enough credit but this sounds good but pretty on par. This is nice background music 🙂↕️ It’s hard to pick a favorite because they all are pretty much the same level of good. Fav songs: desafinado, samba triste
That wasn't bad - 3 for being good musicianship but really not my cup of tea.
Not bad. Smooth. Easy to listen to
usually wasn't big on jazz or music without any vocal. but i feel like this is good background music for writing and reading
Foi bom para criar um ambiente legal no restaurante, mas não curto ouvir jazz no dia a dia
Not my style, but I liked it, it was a chill and relax álbum, nice for when you just wanna lay down and watch the selling and be present.
Pretty decent, I enjoyed Favorite song: E Luxo So
Funny to have a smooth, summery samba album come up in the rotation on Christmas Eve. But it’s pretty, light ‘n’ smooth jazz and it’s a side of Stan Getz I hadn’t really heard.
I LOVE STAN GETZ
Some great tracks, some less so.
10/10 would play in the elevator of my hotel or if I had my own solve the mystery type show Prob won't voluntarily listen to the whole album again but I like the funky vibes 🫡 3/5: not rlly my taste and a tad repetitive to my ears, but I fw the groove
Good samba album. I like Getz pretty generally, but this album isn't an active listen for me. Not enough experimentation. Good listen though, just not something I'd come back to unless the particular mood struck.
This was an enjoyable listen. I can only think that the reason this is on here is because of the influence it had in introducing Bossa Nova to a wider audience as described in the Wikipedia article, because while the jazz is definitely good, it is pretty forgettable 50+ years later. I did like the One Note Samba.
like background at a restraunt music
Jari Pozz
I know literally nothing about jazz or samba or bossa nova but this feels pretty accessible. Chill vibes, feels like being in a fancy cocktail bar with no real worries. Interesting to learn a bit more about a genre I don't normally listen to. I love a good cozy saxophone and this has lots of that.
Great one by Stan Getz
Pretty nice Jazz album. Not mind blowing.
Nice but nothing stood out about it for me.
I know nothing about jazz music nor do I know when I’d even casually listen to this however, it was very pleasant to listen to.
Cant beat a bit of smooth jazz samba
i knew the first album that would pop out would be jazz. not disappointed though :)
Easygoing jazz that works well as background music for the workday and makes your foot tap along with the groovy rythms
Smooth, nice. Latin? Very relaxing and inoffensive but little more than background music
Oh... more jazz... But bossa nova this time! AND its only 33 minutes long! This is more like it! It turns out I quite like the type of jazz that sounds like it should be playing on a beach front establishment on a tropical island better than the type of jazz that sounds like it should be playing in a dark smokey basement bar. This will be unsurprising to anyone who's ever met me. Not sure it was best experienced on a cold drk winter walk to work, but I still thought it was ok. 3/5
Usually not a huge jazz fan, but this was good fun. Clipped along at a nice pace
Not my kind of Jazz, its kinda fun, but kinda samey. I could listen to it but its nothing to write home about for me.
This was smooth and easy to listen, perfect complement to my workday. The bossa nova rhythm is very catchy.
pretty white
Competently played, easy listening. But I still prefer the sound that is closer to the original arrangements with vocals and more layered percussion.
That was great!
I really enjoyed this album, it was quick, smooth and calming. Something I’d play in the background and enjoy.
More jazzy bossa nova sounds that always seem to scratch me where I itch. I felt like I’d heard of the names Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, but I’m old and can’t keep up with what I do know or just think I know. But at least I’m smart enough to admit it. The reason I mention Charlie Byrd is that the tracks on this album were arranged by him after he was introduced to bossa nova in 1961. Stan Getz is the man soloist on the album on the saxophone. Many of you may not know it, but I used to play the sax, though badly, but I could play it. I needed sheet music, I was not a good improviser whatsoever. Perhaps that’s why I dropped the sax and never looked back in 1990-something, but I digress. Turns out Byrd is quite the guitarist and he and Getz make a great team. The music that comes flowing from them just puts you at ease. And being it’s the holiday season, it also feels a bit Christmas-y, especially if you're a fan of the Charlie Brown Christmas special with its incredible jazz soundtrack from the Vince Guaraldi Trio. I’m not an expert in jazz or bossa nova, so I can’t tell you technically why Jazz Samba is great, but I’ve listened to it three times now, and I didn’t make it through Tim Buckley’s Happy Sad once fully. The samba grooves just chill you out, and they are just cool. Plus, there’s no sexier instrument than the sax and guitar. I’m quite certain several babies were made with this jewel on the turntable. If you’re looking for something different to listen to, something that you’ve not really delved into, then this is a good album to explore. I know I get bored with stuff I listen to constantly, and I need to stretch my wings. Whether this is an album you must hear before you die, I don’t really think so, but I was sure glad I got to hear these two gentlemen ply their trade for one album.
Pleasant enough music that I would never specifically put on but would not complain if someone else did.
não é meu tipo de música mas eh ok
Good. Not crazy like some jazz albums can be. Nice rhythm and an easy listen.
So soothing.
First listen
I really like bossa nova in the sense that it is very pleasant and easy to just put on in the background. This one was exactly what I expected it to be for better or for worse. High 3 for a pleasing, but one-dimensional album.
That was jazzy as hell, really the only way to describe it. Kind of felt like I was in a doctor's waiting room at some points, but overall was quite good
I enjoyed the last Stan Getz album we had with the Girl from Ipanema. This is going in the same direction. Real solid instrumental jazziness. High 3.
Fun listen for a few songs. Quite repetitive with an entire album.
Dit was entertainend, maar komt niet aan de tippen van zijn Getz/Gilberto-plaat, dus vraag me af waarom deze erin staat. Misschien volgt de andere nog?
5/10 Very hard to rate - I don't particularly care for it, but maybe it is an awesome exponent of its genre. Playing it safe with a 3
Outstanding music to host a cocktail party to. It's also pretty amazing stuff. I enjoyed it. 3/5
The beginning of the bossa nova craze in America, you say??? Well you’ve piqued my interest. Unfortunately, I got more out of the other Getz record on this list, "Getz/Gilberto". Maybe it took him a few years to really find his bag, maybe it's his Brazilian counterpart bringing the heat, but that album has more impactful melodies and establishes better, more smooth sonic backdrops. I hate to think in such a comparative manner, but that album just does everything Jazz Samba does, just better. Given that this album was before the Gilberto collab record, I will give it props, as I'm sure this blew some Americans minds being their first dive into bossa. Nothing on here is bad, some of it is super fun and feels improvisational, but it didn't knock me off my feet by any means. Light 3/5, happy to hear it but won't go back to it
Sin ser fan del jazz con auriculares, así tranquilo hace buena compañía
As with all Samba and Jazz, this is all very tasteful and nice. But if I were asked say what separates this from samba album X, I would never be able to say anything specific. It was a nice listening, but who knows if it was the best samba or just decent samba?
I often think that smooth jazz is kind of boring. Like an inoffensive meek accountant you meet at a dinner party. This however was good. Just the tone of the saxophone sold me. Maybe it was due to listening to it early in the morning but the chill music was perfect for me. Nice background music, solid 3.
This is the jazz I can into. So smooth and melodic. Good stuff with two legends.
Smooth sax playing with lots of cool percussion parts. Great background music for a dinner party. Not mind blowing but interesting enough to not get boring the whole way through.
Solid enough. Nothing really explosive that grabbed me, but entertaining jazz.
Rv
Feel sorry for this album which has been abused by soundtracks for so long. If you ignore the shopping channel vibes then it’s a good album.
3.3
Good background music
Nice dinner making music, I like Stan Getz a lot already. Cool to read some of the history behind how this started the bossa nova craze too
It was good background music.
It was pretty good.
Not really my thing, but I gotta say, it was pretty relaxing. Threw it on while I was driving and it set a really mellow vibe. I probably won’t listen again, but it went down easy and did its job.
Very smooth and easy to listen to. Great for doing some light housework to. Also sounds like good elevator music. Its good. I'd give 3.5 if you could do half stars.
getz/gilberto is better
Sasvim prijatno i opuštajuće. Možda čak i malo uspavljujuće.
Expected
2 greats, Jazz and Samba. Chill background music.
Ultimately, all jazz sounds the same (mostly) to our uncouth and untrained ears, but we enjoyed this album well enough.
Day 7: Best tracks: Desafinado, Samba De Uma Nota So, E Luxo So, Bahia I'll admit that bossa nova is not in my audio wheelhouse. I'm extremely unqualified to render a judgment of this music, but I enjoyed listening to it while walking my dog. And the next morning on my commute. Desafinado is all I'd ever want from this type of music that isn't straight from the Monsters, Inc. soundtrack. 7/10.
interessante
Really pleasant, easy listening bossanova jazz. Both Stan Getz’s tenor saxophone and Charlie Byrd’s nylon strung guitar have wonderful tone. Great late night listening but Getz/Gilberto from a couple of years later is a much more essential album.
Not my favourite style of jazz but there were some decent tracks in there. It is a bit safe and lacks the dynamism of my favourite works. Not a huge fan of guitar as a lead instrument in jazz as well - I can appreciate it on a technical level but it lacks the fluidity of woodwind and brass instruments.
Solid jazz.

It’s good, but maybe a little too clean for my taste. I was hoping for maybe a little more exploration and experimentation with the solos. Worth the listen though, 3.5/5
I certainly prefer my jazz with a Latin flavor so this journey into a samba style was somewhat in familiar territory. I imagine that this was groundbreaking at the time to an audience that was probably experiencing it for the first time. I understand that was a fusion with American jazz but I prefer the pure style.
Glad I listened don’t know how often I’ll return but it was nice
Ermmm alright as these things go I guess? Samba Dees Days was a good vibe. I drifted a bit as it went on but the album is short and snappy enough that I never crossed the line into ‘that’s just far too much jazz’ or ‘stop that bossa nova now please’.
Enjoyed the Jazz, wish I was enjoying it at night with a nice drink.
Nice background music. Appreciate the short length- easy to listen to. Definitely restaurant or hotel lobby tunes.
7,5/10 Highlights: O Pato Samba Triste
Nice jazz album!
[7/10]
Great background music. Soothing. Great chill vibe.
Easy listening
Boa interpretação, mas o samba do brasileiro é superior
jazz album not much to say
Soothing Jazz perfect for setting a relaxed ambiance. Good for background, not an album that got me very involved.
Much like other samba, I like this generally, in that it's easy to listen to, but it doesn't overly grab me. I do like Getz' sax tone though.
7/10 Favourite: Desafinado Least Favourite: None
background jazz music
Smooth jazz tends to remind me of being on hold or in an elevator. I would never label it as boring, but it does have the quality of background music. I think I just like my jazz with a little more pep in it's step. However, if I'm in a place playing bossa nova, it does feel comfortable. This was a relaxing and easy listen on a Monday, so that was pleasant. No complaints here. Clearly Getz and Byrd are masters of the craft and I really enjoyed the Spanish guitar throughout. 3.5 Stars
Var chill det, men veldig standard
Very nice bgm.
Sounds like playing Animal Crossing with some horns laid on top. Pleasant.
Relaxing
Stan Getz is back playing his fuzzy sax - we had him on August 6th with a later album. This time he collaborated with guitar player Charlie Byrd, who just returned from Brazil and brought bossa nova to the USA. This album was nominated for record of the year. Movies and TV shows in the sixties were filled with bossa nova music, maybe because of this album. Overall very easy listening.
Gosh, does Getz do anything on his own? And do all his album covers look like syntax textbooks? (I guess we know who's got cover art duty in his duos.) Kinda wild that 'Desafinado' is on this list twice (so far), but perhaps I'm underestimating the popularity of Desafinado. Anyway, this is a 30min album with 7 instrumental songs. Maybe it's confirmation bias, but they kinda all sound like 'The Girl From Ipanema'. Fine stuff. Among the upper tier of non-classical instrumentals -- it breezed by -- but still, not quite a 4, I think.
bello ma di fila forse pesantuccio due palle
Very lovely sounding bossanova, sadly it just kind of chugged along and felt more like background music
Interesting how something can be so close to muzak, yet at the same time be so far from it. Even though it is soft and non-obtrusive, there are a lot of cool things happening in this music.
First time listening to this particular album. Samba De Uma was the standout. The rest a little too smooth and sweet for my tastes. Obviously ridiculous musicianship
Relaxing. Short.
I liked this but tbh was complete Background stuff
(60/100)
Stan Getz a 3 for this one. Short enough to keep my attention. Some of it sounded like Pixar music, which is always great.
Very smooth!
I’m reasonably certain that my father-in-law owned this album. Pretty pleasant, but nothing special.
All right, good stuff, easy listening.
Album Cover Art review - abstract painting, hues of red, kinda works for me 7/10 Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd - has to be good. and it is. In fact, it's a goddamn delightful bossa chill backdrop.
ok for background music. Album is nice and short
As smooth as can be.
They say with Jazz you have to listen to the notes they are NOT playing. This was ok. Good background music. Unoffensive cafe music. Some good tracks but nothing special. Needed to crank up the double bass as too low in the mix.
My Father has this album and played it in the evening.
This is definitely at the dinner jazz end of the spectrum but none the worse for it! I’ve already had the other Stan Getz samba album on the list and I think I prefer this one.
Jazz? Nice. Bossa Nova and some lovely tunes, but more by association felt a bit backgroundy.
Pretty decent
This is definitely a 10am album. Background music
Cover 7.5 I've tried several times to get into jazz. The issue isn't that I don't like it. It's that I'm rarely in the mood for it. So jazz is ok. Sometimes it's actually nice to just chill with, so yeah I listen to jazz on my record player but maybe only twice in the last five years. Anyhow, this was a nice listen. I might consider this my next jazz album purchase. If I'm so inclined.
Bossa nova played by American jazz musicians was quite pioneering in '62 and while this doesn't quite get the adulation of the Getz/Gilberto album that followed 2 years later it is a really good example of the form. Nice to see Getz a bit restrained as that makes him more melodic than full on avant garde. Well worth a listen.
Decent little jazz album, a little repetitive but not long enough for that to be a big problem. Overall pretty enjoyable
Jazz
It’s not Getz/Gilberto but if you’re throwing a 1960s cocktail party you could do a lot worse.
Not the best Stan Getz I've heard but some nice songs in here.
A very mellow easy listening Jass/bossa nova / samba. Too easy in fact as it just disappears into the background.
I'm not sure what Getzy was putting in his coffee but this is so much more evocative than Getz/Gilberto. The bounce and melodies seemed to be sucked out for that latter effort. Here though the arrangements are engaging, and the difference may well be Charlie Byrd. Byrd's traditional guitar playing, on the downbeat, adding structure, really anchors Getz's playing. Jobim's suspended major 7ths and all the rest of it, was too vapid especially with the unbearable whisper-singing. I suppose this is more samba and less bossa nova, and I'm happy with that. At just over half an hour it's a concentrated shot of not so bossa nova that did not make me feel sick, angry or depressed. Quite the opposite in fact. Following on from Jobim and Sinatra, which I also enjoyed, maybe I should start to reappraise the genre. I guess you could say, I Stan Getz it.
Smooth Jazz! Goes down smooth and easy. I'm not a big jazz or bossa nova guy, but this is beautiful with wonderful musicianship.
Ok - not a favourite
Easy and light listening, almost to a fault
Nice little album
Mercifully short. I get that this was a had and all but that doesn't mean this was actually good.
Nice ambient album. Not so remarkable to recomend it
*1962. Latin jazz. *Nice easy listening jazz with a Latin flair. *Every song sounded fhe same except for slightly mixing up the tempo, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. *I would expect this type of band to be playing background music live in a nice restaurant. RATING - 7/10
Важко ставити оцінку. З одного боку Стен Гетц це класика і його дуже кайфово слухати влітку, з іншого боку його музика - особливо тут - трохи занадто романтична, як на мене.
Quite pleasant, jazz not really my thing. More background music really
Calming.
I too Bossa my Novas on occasion
7/10 I'm not too familiar with jazz in general, (it's just not a genre I typically gravitate towards AT ALL) but... this album is... nice? I mean, it is very pleasant to listen to, but for an entire album? probably not something I'd ever do again. (although I know there are other jazz-related albums in this 1,001 list) Stan Getz was a clearly talented sax player, and how he made the instrument come to life here is amazing!! I'd describe it as "playful" or "cheerful". top three tracks: • Samba De Uma Nota Só • Bahia • Desafinado least favourite track: • É Luxo Só

Cafe music
I just had the Stan Getz Bossanova album last week. This one was okay, but the bossanova was better. This one was awfully short, too.
Fine, it brought bossa nova to the States. I’m not sure the last 60+ years have done the album any favors, though. From this vantage point, Jazz Samba is so smooth that it seems almost saccharine. Like musical wallpaper. Luxurious wallpaper, of course. But still wallpaper. I’d give this 3.5 stars if I could.
This one is out there. I'm intrigued though. I like this. It's been nice background music while I work. I'm not sure I'd ever choose just to listen to it on my own, but I do like it. 2.9/5
Entspannter Jazz. Habe nebenbei meine Gallerie aussortiert.
Kinda fun. Better the second time when I wasn’t in the gym. Lol
muziek die me aan warm weer, en roze/oranje lucht doet denken.
Smooth smooth smooth
My favourite bits are the saxophone, where a little bit of menace gets into it and it gets a little freaky, even though it’s subtle, with the backdrop of smooth jazz it’s very powerful for me. The opening track is particularly effective in this regard, slipping between calm and slightly manic expressions of love. My least favourite bits are the guitar, it does nothing for me. No hidden menace. Overall it’s very listenable and home to some bits that I absolutely adore.
Solid to high 3 for me, especially enjoy the guitar sections. Good for lounging.
Nice!
Jazzy
I like the jazz, not the samba
“O Pato” just really gets me amped in the morning.
Never had a title so accurately described an album.
i can see this as background music in a bar of something where i could enjoy it but it's nothing that I'd listen to at home
An easy listen, I dont know enough about samba or music history to know how important or groundbreaking it is
Fun jazzy music, but it serves better as background music than anything else. Favorite Track: "Desafinado".
Trevligt!
Trevligt att lyssna igenom, inget märkvärdigt men det verkar inte vara poängen heller. Definitionen av lagom.
Behagligt och preeecis tillräckligt svängigt.
This is almost literally elevator music. And that alone should make it fairly bland. But you know what, it's still quite pleasant. It's very smooth and relaxing and it feels like a different time, in a good way. All that said, though, I didn't even notice that this album had ended and that YouTube Music started auto-playing other Bossa Nova songs. It's certainly not very remarkable, as nice as it is.
This was a lot better than I expected. The previous Getz record I listened to was Getz/Gilberto, which was an occasionally compelling album undermined by the proto-ASMR singer. This is significantly better, but I don't know how to rate jazz. Getz is a great saxophonist. He makes a tenor sound warm and fluid. It's a good listen, but I don't really have the urge to listen to most jazz pieces again. I could definitely learn something from this, and I guess I will give it another listen or two, but this isn't hitting the spot for me.
I am not all that familiar with Brazil's own Bossa Nova, and in fact, this is the first Bossa Nova album I've heard from front to back. This is suiting in many ways, because this was most Americans' first Bossa album as well. By, let us say, "borrowing" the emergent fusion genre from Brazil, Stan Getz was largely responsible for kick starting the craze in the US. While it is kind of a shame that this newfound fame ultimately resulted in the genre living in the mind of most Americans under the dismissive label of "Elevator Music", I suppose the gospel spread nonetheless. And it isn't hard to see how this album captured the attention of the public. Stan Getz's take on Bossa Nova is pleasant and unchallenging, but deceptively complex on a compositional level, which is consistent with how the genre is perceived in America. I am not qualified to say whether or not this album does the genuine article justice, but I did enjoy it. Admittedly, I don't get a ton of meat here, I can mostly just put this on and enjoy the mood. However, that isn't to say there isn't anything to gain from Jazz Samba as a more active listening experience, it's just that doing so may require a more refined ear for Bossa Nova than I possess. Anyways, as I said, I did enjoy this overall.
3.5 Stars: It's an ambrosia salad while smoking a Chesterfield at a swinger's party kinda album. I prefer my jazz with far more improvisation and riffing off one another. But if you're looking for something as more of an easy entry to Jazz music, you can't do any better than Jazz Samba.
Genre: Samba-jazz About as elevator music as jazz can get. Technically very good, very well recorded, but certainly not the lost exciting release in history. Solid cool jazz album, if you like that sort of thing. 3/5
It was good, but the automated playlist that started afterwards was even better.
Nuda. 5/10
A little bit too Monsters Inc. Opening Sequence compared to my usual taste in jazz, but this was a pleasant little album to run through. Suits the sleepy sunny weather we are having at the moment. The guitar on this album was particularly nice, and really complimented the horn work at the front.
Good and chill but samey
When I saw jazz I got scared but this was actually ok. Not a traditional “jazz” album that sounded like elevator music or was boring. It was kind of monotonous but if this was on in the background or something I really think it would add to the vibe.
I don't mind Bossa Nova when you add vocals to it. But this just seemed like something you would hear at a high class cocktail party and, like the canapes, instantly forgettable.
Standouts Samba Dees Days Samba De Uma Nota So
This is not something I'd choose to put on, but it wasn't bad to have on in the background while I worked.
Chill
Jazz… it’s hard to enjoy. This is a less offensive example, however.
Pretty solid jazz, nothing to write home about.
Very nice
Really nice stuff, gave it a few listens while working, reading, playing a game.
Does what it says on the tin.
I enjoyed parts of this album but can’t get into the Bossa Nova thing. I realize this was lucrative for Getz, but really not for me.
Should I find myself in the need to samba, I will reach for this.
Ricura pero no tanto. Mucho yanqui faux Brasil. Nota: 2.8
This is Bossa Nova? Didnt know that. I am waiting for that one jazz album that hooks me. Every time one comes up on this random album generator, I have a kind of letdown feeling on one hand and genuine curiosity on the other. This is perfect 1960's pool party music. Sits in the background and provides atmosphere. Ended up listening to it whilw driving as well as drinking coffee in the morning. I think I like it.
sympa
nice!
This was just about the kind of jazz I can listen to while workings snd mildly enjoy.
made my ears feel good but not that interesting just nice 6
Better than some of the other jazz albums I've listened to. Great background music for working.
Very nice change of pace for me
Good background jazz
Okay
I feel like my mind has been poisoned by the usage of music in public. I like this, but can't help categorizing it as simply "restaurant background music".
Hmmm…..Jaaaaaazzzz. Nice! Actually didn’t hate this (although not really that into Jazz as a rule). The musicianship is off the charts….really solid groove underpinning all the tracks with real variety. Might even listen to it again!
Delightful
Enjoyable.
I bet this went hard after your third martini of a Wednesday afternoon lunch in 1962.
I am enjoying riding this elevator
Jazz. Sounds like something I’d listen to in an elevator.
Very nostalgic, makes me think of my Aunt and Uncle and Grandparents. I'm not a huge fan of jazz in general but I do like the Bossa Nova style, especially in the right setting, like making dinner. Stan Getz has a nice sound. I'll probably listen to this again in specific situations.
An enjoyable album, but not something I would necessarily choose to play again regularly. I enjoyed thinking about the bossa nova craze in the 60's.
hyggeligt!
I feel like I enjoyed this way too much. Big 3!
This was a good listen. Super light, enjoyable. Not something I would ever put on just to listen to, but it was a good listen.
Not my thing but very enjoyable still
I'm not a jazz fan ordinarily, but I quite liked this.
For a (supposedly) non-remastered version, this sounds surprisingly good for its time. Nice mixing with the instrument separation, giving a convincing live vibe. Highlights include O Pato and Samba De Uma Nota So for their infectious riffs and rhythm sections. The feel is consistently relaxed, lighthearted, and unassuming. I can dig that – especially amidst a list of albums that are, for the most part, famous for their rebelliousness in some way. But that lack of rebellion is also problematic. Identical instrumentation and textures in each track means they all sound extremely similar. The only real way to differentiate them is the hooks, since even the tempos and keys are similar. Not a very versatile band, I suspect. The sax technique/tone is impressive, and I found myself searching for something even a little more complex than what Getz and Byrd were going for. It felt like a professional was playing a college jazz band part. Some bebop lines (bebop was certainly invented by this point) would go a long way. Unimpressed by the cover. I didn't think it had any meaning behind it, and after looking up the artist – abstract expressionist painter Olga Rosaly – I realised I was right. It's too bland for the sound it represents (or, for that matter, any sound). This is the 60s. At least have a snazzy shot of the ensemble! 3/5 Key tracks: O Pato, Samba De Uma Nota So
I didn't mind this, but American versions of Latin music always sound flat in comparison.
An audible sigh as I get fed another Jazz album - however - defs my preferred type of Jazz. Fun, relaxing, cheerful, beautiful.
I liked this album. A really nice mellow one to chill/cook vibe to. A light fun 30 minute jaunt, well played. 3.5
Cute
Fine
Lovely.
Very pleasant. Instruments all sound beautifully clear and distinct. Not much of a jazz fan but could certainly vibe on this.
Upright bass solos!! I scream into the abyss. Samba Dee Days had me a bit shocked I thought I accidentally queued some random country album at the beginning but alas it very obviously isn’t a country song. I really appreciate the interplay between guitar and sax in most of these songs I think it adds a really nice contrast. Hold up is the album cover a horse? That again feels kind of country. The two standouts for me on this album would probably be Desafinado and Bahia so a strong start and finish, just got a bit bored towards the middle tbh. If I could give half stars, it would be 3.5. But 4/5 feels too lenient so. It was nice as background music for mlp.
