phenomenal musicianship all the way through. the type of music you'd drink cocktails to or sit outside with on a warm summer night, having one of those reminiscent conversations sitting in plastic chairs. though it's nice, i'm not one for casual jazz/ samba (giggle) listening and wouldn't go out of my way to listen to this. i'd enjoy it if i heard in a restaurant or something though. that being said, some real interesting bossa in here. the tone of the sax makes me feel happy!!!🥉e luxo so🥈desafinado🥇samba dees days
Cool. Noticeably for me though.
Nice jazz duo. A must for anyone’s jazz collection. Good sound, good music.
Solid jazz album, didn’t blow me away but quite good
Nice easy listening
It’s fine. Sounds good, but I really hesitate to classify this as jazz. To me it’s a samba album with some members who play jazz on a regular basis. I had no issues with this one but I doubt it’s going to be in rotation at my house. Call it 2.5 and I’ll round up to 3.
Pretty fine jazz album (very representative of the genre as they say), not outstanding but not offensive. I probably listen to it again but it was fine.
It was ok. I canteen to get all the way into jazz.
Pleasant enough, just right for some easy background music. I'm not a fan of bossa nova but did not mind this particular album which probably means it's better than most in its genre. Note: recording is of excellent quality, truly an audiophile-grade album.
A bit of bossa a bit of samba. Sounds a bit dated but still sounds good. The sax playing is excellent. An enjoyable and easy listen but not one that will be regularly listened to.
i really liked e luxo so. other than that the rest of the album kind of washes over me. but even though i couldn't hum you another melody from the album, i still enjoyed listening to it in the moment, so i give it a low 3
Unsure exactly why I needed to listen to this before I died but it was fine

Now this is the type of elevator music I wouldn't mind.
Not so much my speed. Sounds like elevator music so I can't in good faith rate it in any extreme
Soulfully smooth, laid back jazz. In it's 35 minute run time, Stan Getz transitions between a whole range of Brazilian sounds, pioneering the Bossa Nova genre. Best Tracks: - Desafinado - E Luxo So - Bahia Worst Tracks: N/A Rating: 7.5/10
It was nice. A little bit too background music but it would be right home if you were chilling in a jazz lounge or something. Nice to listen to but it all kinda blended together
Probably not an album I’ll revisit but I did enjoy giving it a listen. There’s no doubting the quality of the musicianship
Calming, chill vibes
I was too hard on it, it's actually not bad
Felt like I was on an elevator for 33 minutes. Seriously, it wasn't bad. I just have very little context for jazz or samba. It was warm, pleasant, and organic. 3/5 Album 22/1001
Pleasant, enjoyable jazz. Simple as. Overall: 3/5
Background music, and I mean this in both the best and worst way possible.
This is good music and I would be thrilled to hear it live in a dimly-lit bar. That being said, I probably wouldn't play it for myself too often. Favorite tracks: "Desafinado," "E Luxo So"
Grooovey
nice, but close to elevator music on a few songs
Great!
i think i like my jazz a bit crazier than this but this is still beautiful! whenever i read the word samba i think of sex and the city . samantha voice: i got reservations to samba

I guess this is where bossa nova got its commercial start! I was exposed to Getz via this list not too long ago (Getz/Gilberto), so there's a hint of familiarity for me. Everything flows along nicely. While it's not as brash and energetic as most jazz was from the time this album released, there's a certain cohesiveness and consistency curated by Getz (sax), Byrd (guitar) and others throughout. After listening to a few bossa nova/samba records among the nearly 400 albums I've drawn from this list, I think I can say that the genre doesn't have much versatility or much of a musical "ceiling" if you will. It's pleasant to listen to, but that's about it. I'm sure it's fun to play as an artist, but tends to exist in the background of most settings. This record has its significance in history though, somewhat ushering in the bossa nova craze in America in the early 60's.
This is okay. It’s not bad, pleasant to have in the background, but it moves slowly and I wasn’t especially interested in it. I preferred the tracks that auto-played when the album was finished.
pretty tight. probably would be better just to go to the source, big Jobim, but really the whole bossa nova craze is a pretty interesting bit of music history. Anyway good music, well played, and there's probably a straight line somewhere between samba dees days and deez nutz jokes, so
Softens jazz and takes the shrill edge of by adding the samba beat. Liked this. Wouldn’t actively listen to it, but would make some great background music for a dinner party were I to have friends or want to host a dinner party.
This was ok.
The best thing about this album is the flow, there is zero clunky feel to any song, the groovyness never stops. Charlie Byrd and Stan Getz did their thing, it goes without saying that they have mastered their respective instruments and styles. For two American white guys they really managed to bring the Brazilian vibe.
It’s jazz. Nothing special.
This is a soundtrack to a 30-minute elevator ride. It's quite similar to Getz/Gilberto, so why did I enjoy it, but not this? Simple, Astrud is on the former, and this is just cool jazz jamming. É luxo só is dope, with an upbeat dance rhythm, and the opener Desafinado is really lush. It's definitely worth checking out. If anything, it's worth as background music.
Not a bossa nova head, but shout out to Stan Getz. Rating: 7.5
Hm. Yet another Stan Getz album in this collection, and yet another take on "Desafinado"--not quite rivalling how many versions of "The girl from Ipanema" are in this collection, but it's close, I think. It seems like a fine album, and thankfully brief, but I'm not sure why we have yet another bossa-nova-inspired jazz album, when there are undoubtedly far better jazz albums that could have taken the place of this one.
Quite nice and as beautiful as the sax was, the percussion really sold it for me.
it’s jazz, and it’s samba
Incredible musicianship and a really relaxing listen 3/5
All songs sound the same Good to study to Not my bag but might listen
My second Stan Getz- this time without lyrical accompaniment. Nice relaxing background music, but I did find myself missing having lyrics
Sick!! Give me more jazz pretty please
I didn’t listen to all of it
Soothing, mellow and clean, but too restrained to be anything more than background music.
chill very sophisticated yes
Lots of sounds good vibes but no lyrics or singing
So chill and great. Not something I’ll put on but super soli
THINKIN: Jazzy. PERSONALLY: I don't know how to read Jazz yet but hoping this listening experiment gives me some more insights. ALT TITLE: Samba Jazz
pretty ok 3/5

Nice, easy listening, but didn't instil any strong emotions. Not exciting or unique.
Good jazz
Great vibe although quickly turns into background music

Didn't listen but respect the jazz choice. Will dedicate a listen later when remembered.
Jazz is not my thing, but this was super pleasant.
Another elevatpr music
Hard for me to get excited about jazz, but this was very...pleasant?
Another Getz in the span of a week! I wish i got this one a little later so i had enough time to sit with Getz/Gilberto which i loved its mellow techincal and beautiful. Its exactly the type of album id love to put on while i do my work, read or have dinner. The saxophone is great, the lack of standout vocal tracks relative to the other work is however notable. I think if i get this album with some gap , its closer to a 4 but for today its a strong 3

Allegedly this kicked off the bossa nova craze in the US in 1962. Frankly, I did not know there was a bossa nova craze in the US. It's basically jazz music with a Brazilian twist (though neither of these dudes are even remotely Brazilian). The album is perfectly enjoyable and they're obviously both talented musicians. I like it enough and could imagine playing it again as background music, but I can't say the bossa nova thing really does much for me. Perfectly ok, but that's it. Favorite song: Desafinado Other: O Pato, Samba Triste, Samba De Una Nota So 2/1/25
This album does a good job of being danceable jazz. Solid background music. The saxophone and guitar work are both pretty good. Favorite songs were Samba Dees Days, O Pato, and Bahia.
Enjoyable. Good background music.
6/10 Some jazz I liked - really Bossa Nova though I guess Immaculate vibes, chilled, with nice playing. Doesn’t set the heart racing though Best: Samba de Uma Nota So
didn't listen to this all the way through. i'm not huge into jazz, so i found myself quite bored a few songs in. however, it would be good to play in acoffee shop.
This is nice but bland and would never interest me more than anything other than background music
Cheery , relaxing Jazz album with a leading saxophone. Didn't stand out for anything in particular.
Not my cup of tea.
This sounds like a very good summer album to put on in the background of a patio bbq hangout. Today was a wintry blustery day so I listened once while driving in that and again while I was having a rough day at work, it did calm me a bit so it definitely enhanced my mood overall. Super chill sounds that I may enjoy more in the right setting. 3 stars
3. First hearing. Listened to a fair whack of jazz like this with my Dad over Christmas. I’m developing a real taste for it in many ways but also still tend to prefer lyrics-driven music over instrumental at this stage I think. Enjoy the little trills and flourishes, makes me want to laze around on a boat.
What a great groove. Definitely background music for me, but a lovely vibey background music. Was a little hard to un-associate it with elevator music on first listen, but it definitely grew on me.
Soft, mellow jazzy background music. Not inherently bad, but just boring. All the tracks sound the same. Would be good for creating atmosphere in a bar.
It's first class background music.
Sunny samba music that only feels a little like adding to insult to injury as I walk my dog on cold, wet, grey January Srsttle mornings. Maybe 4 stars or more, in a different environment.
Made me want to watch Benny Hill for some reason.
3.5
This is basically what I consider 60s coffeehouse jazz. It's nice, but overwhelmingly safe. I kinda needed this kind of mellow buzz this morning, it's good. But that 60s jazz somba sound just reminds me of movie and TV tropes to kinda code to the hip beatnik crowd. It's fine, but not something I'm particularly drawn to. I don't know if it's the rhythm or the genre, because I kinda dig it when Santana employs similar rhythms or vibes, but in the context of 60s jazz it just strike me as there.. OK... Good, but not moving. (7.3) ★★★½
Not my favourite style of jazz by a long shot, but still a pleasant listen. 3.5 stars

He’s Stan Getz and whatever you want, Stan gets! (As long as it smoothalicious jazz samba solos). 3 and a half cappuccinos out of 5.
Really nice but didn’t really grab me
E luxo so was lekker
Correcto
Not very familiar with jazz as a whole genre so excited that the first album is a jazz record. Smooth, easy listening upbeat jazz, elevator music in the nicest way. Bass work is very nice and has some stand out moments. Bossa nova drums are crisp and and drive the songs forward whilst keeping a danceable enjoyable steadiness. Saxophone is expressive and fun. Doesn’t always flow one track into the next perfectly but feels cohesive, held together by a clear stylistic aim. Feels a bit one note but is aided by a relatively short run time. Very enjoyable but probably not something I would return to often unless seeking out samba/bossa nova jazz. Will likely return to once my jazz palette is a tad more informed. 3/5
One note samba is a classic. Def sets standards but a little too laid back. Almost cliche but those things started here. Might need a few listens but got burned out
Decent album, some good tracks but others are like elevator music.
Oh no.... The first jazz album has dawned upon my list......... What terrors could possibly be entombed within this record..................... It's pretty nice. I wasn't expecting the more uniform jazz albums to be getting a spot in the book, so I was pleasantly surprised when I put this one on and was able to quickly fall into it's relaxing atmosphere. Despite my raging hate boner for avant-garde jazz being quite sizeable and desirable to the ladies, I don't actually want to be a hater of the genre. Maybe these two artists will end up being my gateway to jazz music. I definitely feel compelled to check out more of their stuff.
Some light fun jazz. Nothing that really stood out and grabbed me.
Great playing lovely performances. How much jazz samba does one need? About this much at once
Top tier sub jazz genre. I still wouldn’t just listen to it but it’s great background music
Really good; I just happen to not love listening to a lot of jazz music
Levyn nimi ei valehdellut, jazzia ja sambaa. Aika trooppista soundia. Koko levy aikalailla samanlaista. Parhaat: Mikään kappale ei erityisesti erottunut
Chill

Not my style, but excellent musicianship
Given that it was samba, I think this album could have used a bit more pace, a bit more energy. Still, I liked it
Unobtrusive background music. There's nothing here that I'd choose to listen to, but it would be perfectly pleasant to have on in a restaurant or while I was concentrating on work.
This album is the perfect soundtrack to your 1960s cocktail party. Not a terrible album, but nothing that’s really gripping or singing to me either. a solid three stars.
Guy on the sax poppin off fr
Not bad. Not great. Just background music. Pleasant enough not to turn off, not pleasant enough to dig out again.
The musicians are talented and I appreciate a bit of Bossa Nova in the mix, but this album felt very similar throughout and didn't really get me excited. Nice for something in the background but I preferred the previous Getz album. Love the cover art though!
Music to drink overpriced coffee to.
Pretty inoffensive, but not much else. Best played in the background of a hotel restaurant.
Mellow Rancho Relaxo music.
This is a beautifully executed album that makes me think of holiday cotillions, cream puffs and champagne. The saxophone and guitar work is clean and smooth like silk sheets, and the double bass part on Desafinado is a personal favorite, though it does feel a little buried in the mix. I don’t know how often I would listen to this but it is definitely an enjoyable album. Now I’m ready for the holidays. Bring in the babka and fuzzy hats!
Super chill. While this isn't quite up to the Girl From Impanema standards. This is some chill music that I will likely listen to again.
Pretty ok jazz album. Solid background music.
easy listening
I definitely under appreciate jazz and don’t listen to it enough. This is a good, easy to listen to album. Very enjoyable.
quite a enjoyable album, with sounds that would make the time go by. would recommend if hiking, or just enjoying a nice early morning reading of the morning news.
Nice…..
Just really nice background dinner music
Bossa nova is not a genre I have touched upon very much over the last year or so. But man, do I love that shit. It’s one of God’s greatest gifts to man. Not the first time I’ve said that either. But most of the Bossa nova related records I’ve reviewed felt more like the Bossa nova was made second to whatever else the artist had going on. I haven’t gotten a really true to form, proper jazz/Bossa nova record yet. Until today at least. Charlie Byrd is definitely an important figure in the history of the genre. He’s directly associated with Brazilian music, and this album was largely responsible for bringing Bossa nova to mainstream ears in North America. But I don’t think Stan Getz fits under the same umbrella. He is for sure a famous American saxophonist, but not at all a vital part in the evolution of the genre itself. He’s more known for another work he did, with a person many would refer to as the father of Bossa nova. And I am very excited to eventually speak on that recording. But this will suffice for now. It’s not horrible. But also not something I can’t live without. Bossa nova is, by nature, a very simple sound. But it takes a certain execution to pull it off. It’s also something that primarily relies on string arrangements and guitars. But here we see the influence that two jazz musicians can have. And what you get is a fusion of the two. But it definitely leans more towards the jazz side. Out are the arrangements. And in are bass and swing heavy drums. And at the center of it all is Getz and his tenor saxophone. Which is consistently fantastic throughout the whole runtime. Byrd’s guitar playing as well. There aren’t any vocals though. So even though it’s taking bits and pieces of two things I love, I don’t think this reaches the same heights as just a traditional Bossa nova album might. It’s maintains the same warmth and energy, but lacks the heart that makes the genre so good. Rating: 6/10
Great chill-out music. Legendary saxophonist!
Not a huge jazz guy, but this is a nice listen. 3/5
nice
It has mellow vibes that are good for background music.
2,5
Chill vibes if you like that sort of thing. It's ok. I could sip cocktails by the pool or talk with friends with this in the background, but it's not foreground material for me. Three jazzy stars.
I still would prefer a straight forward Jobim album, some nice North American riffing by Byrd but it lacks the feel of the real deal.
FAVTRAXS: Desafinado, Samba Dees Days, Samba Triste, E Luxo So LEASTFAV: Bahia 3.5/5
Very easy listening to this.
Smooth samba jazz. Laid back and chilled out. Not a big fan of jazz but this has its place.
it is indeed
Pretty low-key for me, but ok
Not as interesting as the other Getz album 3.2/5
A lovely jazz album. Great background music, but nothing jumped out at me. I'm not able to hone in on a favorite. If it played again, I wouldn't be mad, but I probably won't look for this to play again. 3 for me.
Don't know very much about jazz, so I'm not a good judge of this album. I thought it was good background music.
This was nice to have on in the background, but I cant say I was grabbed by anything I heard. I imagine it's a classic in its field though and nothing here was displeasing to my ear.
Once again not my style, musically talented it may be but it is boring.
🎧Nice, pleasant, relaxing background jazz
Stuck in a lift. But it's a lovely one with leopoard print velvty walls, everyones looking fly in brightly coloured flares and electric yellow shirts. There's a gentle sway and all is grovvy on the way to, well who cares!
The very definition of a '3', neither moved or irritated me, perfect neutral background music.
It's a perfectly fine album, but my trouble with Stan Getz (and any other kind of bossa nova) is that I always find myself humming The Girl from Ipanema.
I struggle to give this 4 stars knowing the bulk of this album is nothing but covers…
instrumenteel. klinkt wel lekker, positief.
Perfectly pleasant to listen to
White guys love Jobim. Was expecting a little more from these two. Getz is good and Byrd grew on me as the album went on, but why couldn't they turn him up when he soloed with nylon strings?
There's something I have with jazz, is that I love to put it in the background but it's not like i have a song in the head, most of the time, I forget about certain songs, this sounds great, but it's not an album that comes to my head for certain scenarios
de unaaa, 7.5/10
Mysigt! 3,5
I thought I didn’t like jazz but this was easy to listen to and great background music- transported me to a beach bar in Brazil
Not bad.
Very nice background music. Good to work to.
I think I’m going to have to go with a 3 out of 5 on this album rating. At times I was leaning higher, but honestly by the end of the album I was left yearning for something more. Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd do a pretty decent job with performing Brazilian style music, but its not great. You can tell they are doing more appreciation than appropriation when bringing the samba feel to this album, yet it never fully clicks, and is just left feeling not fully realized by the time the 30+ minutes end.
Really good jazz vibes but not super memorable. Like it a lot but I likely won't remember the album in the future. Great jazz but I'm not knowledgeable enough about jazz for it to feel super uniquely memorable.
Ya like jazz? 3/5
Lively soundtrack to a warm day.
Such an upbeat jazz album. Really enjoyed
Some jazz I think I could actually listen to on repeat for once. I dig it.
Very jazzy…
Okay, we haven't had any jazz in a while. I'm ready for this. Beach house vibes. I like it, it's quite calming. You can let it fade into the background if you want, but there's detail here to unpack. Entrancing. Favorite tracks: Desafinado, Samba Triste.
Warm weather jazz, a nice accompaniment to a sunny drive to work this morning
Was great background music while I worked.
Jazz feels like a fucking hard genre to evaluate. It’s either going to be hip and cool or put me to sleep. This album was nice, but felt like background music. Like at a high-end city bar or something, this would be great. But I only have my backyard for this album today, so it just doesn’t have the same vibe, I guess. I respect the talent. The call and response from the saxophone and bass can be great, but for a little over 30 minutes, this one was just fine for me. Favorite track: Samba de Uma Nota Só Other hits: Desafinado, Samba Triste, Bahia
Blind album, know the artist. Fun, catchy, and creative. I liked it but not enough to go out of my way to find this again I guess. Great background music for sure!
That's some damn fine Jazz Samba.
Normally, I love Stan Getz, but this one just didn't hold my interest.
Finally a jazz album that doesn’t leave me enraged after listening! Smooth, easy-going background music. However, all the tracks blend into each other, and I can’t picture myself actively putting this on
Really soothing and engaging at the same time. I felt like I was somewhere else. Difficult to score though as I don't listen to that many instrumental albums. It was enjoyable but did get repetitive. Highlights: Samba Dees Days O Pato
Great background music, and not too long for a jazz album. 3
It's and alright sounding album, but it presents an incredibly gentrified version of Bossa Nova. I can't think of a situation I would pick this up over the real thing whenever I want my fix of 60's brazilian music.
Some the best jazz that I've heard in awhile, but ultimately it's hard for me to see myself listening to this outside of just background music. I need to learn to listen to jazz in a more active way if I'm ever going to get more into Jazz.
Great Latin-influenced jazz.
Enjoyable background music for working. Otherwise relatively forgettable.
Samba-jazz, Bossa nova. I guess it was good? Really struggle to tell if albums like this are good or not. Performances were good and it sounded alright. Just not really my thing I think. Light 3.5/5

OK. But certainly would never buy it
Slowly starting to enjoy jazz more and more with this list! Smooth and enjoyable, what’s not to like?
Alors pourquoi seulement 3/5, me direz-vous ?
Don’t see what this adds sorry 2.5
Good album. Nothing mind blowing.
This is hard to rate. Just felt like generic 1960s bossa nova that you would hear as the soundtrack to every movie from that time period set on a tropical island. I'd listen again, but I wouldn't really consider it "good". 3.5 stars
Jazz Samba is tight. Great background music. Would definitely have in my workday rotation.
I liked it! But I find it hard to distinguish from other Jazz. It is probably my ignorance towards the genre, but I don’t know what sets this apart. With that in mind, it was an easy listen, and I wouldn’t mind a few more albums like it in the list.
Nice background/elevator music
Bueno
Very interesting combination. Some of the guitar and saxophone runs are mind-blowing when you just sit back and take it in.
I can dig it! A little jazz departure is always welcome. Was really confused by the name Charlie Byrd, thinking it was Charlie "Bird" Parker, but it's not. We've gotz another Getz album on here, I think it was the Getz/Gilberto one that I really loved. This one, it's nice, but not much staying with me. Still, a good album and I'm glad to have heard it. Favorite tracks: Desafinado, Samba Triste, Samba de Uma Nota So. Album art: Another of those old classic jazz type covers from the '60s. It's a framed abstract painting with the text above. That old school Verve logo is great too. Solid. 3.5/5
It was really nice, until I realized I finished the album 30 minutes ago and couldn't discern it from the other jazz I was listening to
I don't know much about bossa nova, but this was a lot of fun. Bonus points for this being recorded in D.C. and one of the artists being from Suffolk.
I didn't expect this album to be very good but it was half the length of normal albums that we have been getting (so it was quicker to listen through), it was nice and jazzy, fairly quick tempo-y (made you want to shake it a bit), and all that - from a 1962 album.
Never heard before. I enjoyed listening to this.
Nice mood music. Relaxing.
Pretty low-key
Pretty fun listen. Not my first choice, but all good.
Very nice music to listen to in the background.
I never listen to jazz. Made me feel like I walked into an Italian restaurant that had the music turned up. 3.25/5
3rd jazz album of the week and my heart sank! Thankfully the samba element was pretty strong and the trumpet pretty smooth and not overbearing, albeit it all just blends into one after a while. Quite jolly, perfectly listenable but doubt I will ever listen again.
Enjoyable Standout songs: Samba Dees Days Bahia
samba more like get sam bitches jajaja
#259. Decent, I suppose, but at the end of the day I'd rather not be listening to more jazz. 3/5: why...
Desafinado O Pato
Samba Dees Days just isn’t the same as it used to be.
so good i love elevator jazz 3.5/5
Oh no! Jazz. I am not a fan, but this is light and upbeat - I like the guitar and the samba rhythms. A surprisingly pleasant listen.
I don't dislike it. You can tap your toes, sway back and forth in your chair. It's uplifting. It's also kind of boring. But... I'm torn. I'll never seek this out again but it was alright this time.
I mean it's jazz
Man får precis vad albumtiteln lovar: jazzig samba.
You can hear the cool vibe of the early 60's.
Really enjoyed this and was a great coffee house album.
very nice
Sweet, airy, relaxing jazz. Definitely one to replay regularly and has also put me on a deep dive into both artists.
I'll say what I often say about trad-ish jazz. I listened to it while working and it's excellent for that. Did I fail to notice it had finished for quite some time? Yes.
Pleasant sounding but not engaging. Background music at a garden party at best. 2.5 stars
Stan Getz has better stuff but this was good start for those who haven’t heard him befor
Very pleasant, I liked how prominent the saxophone and guitar are. The percussion was lively without being overbearing. Would put on again, but I think this is best suited for background music vs. active listening.
Great background music and I actually would listen to this again
Sure was jazz
Pretty forgetful album. Another jazz album which blends into the background. Its nice music. Highly skilled musicians but it just doesnt catch my attention. Not a single track made me want to play it again. It reminds me of the hotel band in one of those fancy places. Good to relax to though. I'd give it a 2.5 if i could. I cant so a low 3 it is.
its exactly what it says on the tin, jazz samba NNN
Pleasant background music for working remotely. 3/5
Not my style but can appreciate it.
This album is nice, and has some great classic Samba tracks, it does sort of teeter on the quality of songs. Some are fun or are very well arranged and others are just....not very interesting. Suffering the same problem as The Girl From Ipanema. But this album doesn't have a song as good as Girl From Ipanema, but I do think it's a bit more consistant
Interesting, beautifully produced but can't see myself returning to it
I didn’t hate this, but I really dislike listening to jazz
Pretty on-the-nose name for an album. My reaction can probably best be summarized as "yep, that's what jazz samba sounds like". Pleasant enough as background music, but not something I'm going to seek out.
Not really into Jazz, but this kinda slaps
Some sexy saxophone playing and smooth guitar work. The album has no emotional highs and lows but it sounds nice all the way through
hmm,. new grenres - Samba-jazz, Bossa nova
Relaxing music, no vocals.
Sax and guitar samba
I like this
Nr. 160/1001 Desafinado 3/5 Samba Dees Days 3/5 O Pato 3/5 Samba Triste 3/5 Samba De Uma Nota So 3/5 E Luxo So 2/5 Bahia 2/5 Average: 2,71 Couldn't really get into this one.
Sounded familiar heard some of these before. Most likely won’t listen to again
Better than most jazz albums. A couple of the songs I really enjoyed (especially Desafinado the opener. The songs do start to blend together after a while but it's nice that the album is on the shorter side. 6/10 (3/5)
3s across the board here. Decent listenable music.
Lovely relaxing music while I do the dishes in the evening and look out across the valley. Another good cocktail party album. I guess I like *this* jazzz. Listens: 1 Rating: 3
This was fine, but didn't feel original.
Time for my second bossa nova album involving Stan Getz of the week! Yeah this album is very similar to Getz/Gilberto, which is an album that I listened to 6 days ago. My thoughts are basically the same, with the exception of this album not having as much of a cultural impact despite coming earlier. I guess it's one of those things where this album helped lay the foundations, but Getz/Gilberto perfected it to the point where it's the one that popularized the genre. Basically, this is the Wolfenstein 3D to Getz/Gilberto's DOOM. Still a good album, but not quite as great as the other one. The sound is still here, although the singing that I really liked from that other album is missing. What gives? Anyways, this album is perfectly fine, but a bit of a redundant pick when you have a better and more culturally impactful album from one of the same artists that is also on this list. High 3/5.
I’m sure it was revolutionary and historically significant. I was just bored by it.
Lovely
Delightfully average. Solid 3
Accidentally reviewed under wrong name. See if you can guess which hilarious review is mine
Yazz Floot. I think it’s safe to say that these types of classic jazz standard albums are important to almost no one. Anywhooo, the year is 1963 and we’re all hanging out in our family’s basement bar with our naugahyde furniture. Throw on the Jazz Samba album and let get this orgy rolling.
Much prefer the Getz with Joao Gilberto samba stuff, but glad to hear Charlie Byrd's take on some of the numbers. Very nice.
Some nice jazz music to work to.
Kind of fun and Summery. Rather cheerful.
Not really a jazz fan but the samba elements make it fun and easy to listen to.
It was nice.
it is what it says it is
I don't know how to rate this. It's background music at best. I assume it was revelatory at one time? Maybe? Just seems like someone is trying to hard to impress if I heard it anywhere other than this list...
Good jazz
Smooth but complex. Enjoyable.
Fun, up tempo, and not too experimental
Great jazz album. Keeps moving forward and reinforcing itself with fantastic time changes but maintains a sense of relaxation and lazing on the beach with phenomenal guitar sections supported by the percussion.
Solid jazz
It's an OK jazz album, a bit flat on the sax, and little to no variation between tracks. Unsure why this album made the cut... but I guess it's a running theme with this list of questionable albums. Background music at a Las Vegas hotel
Background noise for listening in shops. Not bad, might be something to put on while studying.
Sorry, all jazz sounds the same to me. I had this on at work and it’s the perfect background noise, and I really enjoyed it, but I also didn’t realize when the album was done and when Spotify was playing other similar music.
Pretty good for jazz, which I don’t usually like
I reviewed Getz/Gilberto not very long ago, but outside of that, I'm not familiar with Stan Getz, and I've never heard of Charlie Byrd before. I'm not very well acquainted with Bossa nova music, so I don't have much to say about this album, other than it was very relaxing and pleasant to listen to. I always hate that I don't have much to say about albums like this (I just had Count Basie yesterday), but once I'm done with this project, I'm going to go back through all of the jazz, samba, and other niche genre albums so that I can be more familiar with them.
Decent background music but nothing special imo. 6/10
This project has taught me this: Brazilian samba/jazz is a thing I dig.
Jazz Samba is smooth, its classy, it feels like living a day in stereotypical 1950s/1960s new age corporate North America, but it also lacks something. It is great as a coherent record you slap on in the background of your day-to-day life, ignoring the music itself, but even diving deeper for a moment you'll kind to find there isn't much there. Its elevator music, and while I like my fair share of what many call "muzak," this needs more layers than it presents to be anything that'll stick with me. Its a pleasant time whilst listening, but I doubt I'll remember the music itself much longer. I'll take the beautiful vocals of the Gilberto's any day.
Interesting, ahead of its time. Slightly plodding and same-y
Dissociating at the dinner table to this one 🔥
Like Jazz? Why not jazz it up with extra jazz
Cool saxy sexy jazz.
relaxing to listen to, i don’t have any problem with this album, would be going back to it strong 6/light 7
Soothing and good background music. I didn't realize when the album ended
I don't know enough about either jazz or samba to know whether this is technically very good. It certainly appears to be well executed and I'd listen again on a summer's evening with a glass of chilled wine thinking about the extotionate cost of living in the South of France.
When I close my eyes I'm transported to a serene summer night under a Gerudo moon.
I'm not a huge fan of jazz, but this was pretty good. I'm overly tired today and the album is putting me to sleep. I think I would enjoy it as background music while hanging by the pool. 3/5
Nice, but kind of forgettable.
Decent jazz, good background music 🎶
Nice album
Really good music for sitting on an outdoor patio in Miami on a sunny day with a nice drink and cigar. 3.5.
Love a bit of Bosa, but I wouldn't say this blew me away any more or less than any other album like it I've heard
What?!? This one seems for my Dad!
This was the style of popular music Rock and Roll rebelled against. I turned 21 in the early 70s so bars that played Samba music were usually full of newly divorced men in full mid-life crises mode who fancied comb-overs and polyester leisure suits, and drove convertible sports cars. The place always reeked of English Leather or British Sterling cologne. To us, this was the music of the horrifically aging and uncool generation. Now, it’s a music style—but it’s heavily laden with awful (but funny) generational memories for me. It was hard to be objective, so let’s call it a 3/5.
