Reviews (page 8 of 13)

This was a nice album actually, very pleasant to listen to. 8/10

I listened to Sarah Vaughan’s “At Mister Kelly’s” in the morning, and this album late at night. I just do as the random album generator guides, and I conclude this is a morning album. Pleasant, instrumental, a spicy solo every now and then. Would drink a mimosa to “Desafinado”. Would fry eggs to “Samba Dees Days”

6th floor please... ♫♫♫

Best jazz album yet. Really enjoyed this

nice jazz;

what a pleasant, pleasant listen. i loved it all! beautiful from start to finish. there isn't a bad song in the album. the saxophone is heavenly. truly, i can't wait to listen to this again and again. perhaps i'm thinking too much, but i confess i'm disappointed to learn that bossa nova was created in brazil yet the album that makes it on this 1001 albums list is the one by americans. that doesn't take away from the beautiful sound of the album but it does leave a sour taste in my mouth. regardless, i still learned all about bossa nova and this album is a lovely one.

There are a few things in life in which the enjoyment of them is best managed in small doses. Jazz being one of them, but more importantly really good jazz. Jazz is a very full experience, testing the tolerance of the average consumer and this would explain that as music has changed and people delved more into easy and repetitive pop, jazz while respected for its complexity does not grow in popularity in the same proportion. This album however is the perfect small dose of really, really good jazz. Topping it off, is that while jazzy it takes cues from samba (as the title would suggest) giving the otherwise smooth jazz some spicy notes. The album goes down like a smooth whiskey with that little hit of burn as the spirit makes it way and warms the chest.

Boss Bossa Nova

Foot on step, elbow on leg, clicking

Pure vibes

What a fun, jazzy experience this was! This is the best kind of music to cook to. So we did. A very well done piece of jazz.

very good, enjoyed it quite a bit!

I think I prefer some vocal in modern music...

I'll have a glass of whiskey with my cigar, please.

Awesome album, why it's not in my vinyl collection yet !??!

I should listen to more Stan Getz. With each album that I discover by him, I am always amazed by his refined, romantic and at the same time catchy music. Moreover, the percussions are subtle, but so effective. Awesome record!

I can just put this in the background all day. Love Charlie Byrd too esp on Samba Triste..

Not my kind of music, but it's well composed and would recommend to folks that like this

Nice bossa nova!

If Lewis's department store was still going, they would be playing this.

Relaxing to listen to.

It’s not the incredible masterpiece that is Getz/Gilberto, but it’s still a great album

Super laid back, beautiful jazz. I loved this and appreciate the bluesy sound.

I like it I want to cook to this

Fav tracks: Rockstar Made, Stop Breathing, JumpOutTheHouse, M3tamorphisis (feat. Kid Cudi), Slay3r, Teen X (feat. Future), Vamp Anthem, Sky, Punk Monk, F33l Lik3 Dyin Worst tracks: Beno!, Meh, ILoveUIHateU

obrigado julia roberts em comer rezar amar

Bossa Nova - really enjoyed this, very warm, mellow & uplifting. Beautiful sax with sunny light Spanish guitar rhythms.

The saxophone, the guitar, the samba and percussion are all brilliant here to create a wonderfully chilled out vibe on this record.

pretty good catjam

Ahh the sweet sound of 60's South American influenced Jazz. Takes you back to Sean Connery as Bond, the Girl from Ipanema etc... A simpler time maybe? My first time of listening to this album but the tunes see so familiar. "Desafinado" has been used on so many soundtracks I think. I like the cockiness of "O Pato" this music has a confidence is of the the era, the post war blues had gone and their was a new optimism of better things to come. The silky smoothness of "Samba Triste" is also of the era. It is such a shame that drummer Buddy Deppenschmidt and bassist Keter Betts don't get the same billing as Stan & Charlie for this is definitely an ensemble piece and without these two it would not have had the same impact or influence I think. Justifiably on this list I did enjoy it.

Light and fun. Good to listen when you need peace inyour soul and a litle bit of hapinness.

Huge fan of the Sax. Also there’s many different moods in this one, the first song made me want to drink in a bar with some cigars and later in the album it felt like upbeat elevator music. Good time, would listen again.

Solid instrumental album. Has a very uplifting vibe for the soul. Could definitely be used for soft dinner party music or while having wine before dinner. Not necessarily a album I going to turn on for a drive or doing housework, but good for cooking, drinking wine and cocktails.

Maybe I should listen to more Jazz.

Not my style, but nice to listen to.

The band sits precisely the correct distance and on the right side of "cool". The guitar most of all; The sax stays understated but not drowsy; The drumming is the hot hot source of life. It's an easy-to-listen-to album from beginning to end, but not because the same song or line gets played. One to make one sit up and realize why the Latin input to jazz is so important and enduring.

Way better than expected. Great for keeping on in the home during chores, keeps ya moving. 4.5

Extremely relaxing. So funny that this was recorded in a church in an area of DC I used to frequent all the time. I see this is allegedly responsible for the bossa nova boom... a pretty cool nugget of trivia. Highly enjoyable stuff.

Fantastic way to wind down after meetings before logging off for the day

Very catchy jazz. Perfect as a backdrop for social occasions.

Like this a lot. Short though

Nice and chill bosa nova Rating: 8/10

They don't call Stan Getz "The Sound" for nothing. This is the epitome of the background music I want to hear playing in a good dive bar.

Samba y jazz. Jazz y samba. Animado.

idk how to tell good jazz from bad jazz but i liked it it was jazzy

Really enjoyed Charlie Byrd's guitar - some lovely interplay with the saxophone and double bass

Decent classic jazz. I feel like I've heard some of these songs in passing before. Overall, interesting to start picking up on some of the common key changes in jazz and to hear the Latin influence as well. Might start messing around with these key changes.

Vivid tunes to set up the right ambiance for relax, study or dance alone or with somebody

very smooth... saxophone is used well, not too overwhelming, just right. fun jazz tracks to put you in a good mood!

Possibly my favorite jazz album, especially the first song.

Smooth as butter

A different side of Getz that I'm not familiar with.

An album that helped pioneer the bossa nova sound. Exquisite!

Well I think the title gives a fair bit away haha. Ok this is pretty soothing. I could listen to a fair bit of this. It kind has this gypsy jazz feel to it, the album length is perfect, it has tempo changes between songs, it's just a genuinely fun album. Reading wiki, surprised to find out it's from the US - I was expecting it to be from Brazil or maybe Argentina given the song titles and overall sound. Still, 4/5.

Yndislegur fílingur, mjög smúþ.

Really short but nice album. It's certainly something I would listen to again without reservation, but as with most stuff in the pure instrumental jazz genre, it's not something I would actively reach for. 4 stars.

A classic album, and one I think listened to many times at Dads, but I don’t think he pace really suits me

Liked it

No-nonsense bossa nova album. Short and sweet. Strong album throughout, no frills or gimmicks.

Nice music to listen to in an elevator or to be left with your own thoughts

gonna be generous as I don't like Jazz but feel quite moved by this

A very enjoyable record. There is actually very little to no filler on this album. 4,5/5

Rating: 7/10

Jazz but not the really out-there whacky kind. Pretty short as far as albums go too, doesn't overstay. I liked it, good background music to get some work done, has a Latin vibe in the percussion.

I really enjoyed the mix of Jazz and Samba. Just good, enjoyable music with enough technical depth to get hooked. The bad part though is when getting unhooked, I found it lacked catchy hooks to really draw me back in. When I focused on something else and the album became background listening, I found it hard to distinguish it from simple muzak. I'd rate this one a 3.5, but round it up because it broadened my appreciation for a type of music I don't usually listen to.

June 8th, 2021 1.DESAFINADO- Great easygoing Bossa-Nova that sets the whole mood. 2.SAMBA DEES DAYS- Festive tune. What's not to love about it. 3.O PATO- Nice acoustic work on this song. One of the best on the album. 4.SAMBA TRISTE- Minor key samba. Pretty good. 5.SAMBA DE UMA NOTA SO- The percussion really makes this track something special. 6.E LUXO SO- This one REALLY takes you south of equator. Perhaps my favorite track. 7.BAHIA- Sets a similar mood to "Samba Trieste". Not bad for a romantic evening either. >In Review: If possible, this would get a 9 out of 10. Like Stan Getz's later album "Getz/Gilberto"(1964), this album is full of relaxing songs that whisks the listener away to the sunny land of Brazil. I do feel as if vocals would have elevated this album (Astrud and João Gilberto's vocals, along with Antonio Carlos Jobim's piano made the latter named album special, a true 5/5). However Getz, Byrd and the rest of the musicians on this album truly made it terrific, and worthy of the record collections of any sophisticated music connoisseur. Should I ever visit Brazil, this will be on the playlist.

Funky! I like the guitar

really solid jazz album. amazing soundscapes

4/5 Lekker ontspannen

One of the better albums I’ve heard

It was good, just tough to listen to a full jazz album

3.6. Latin Jazz vibes

Classic lounge music teilweise fast scho aufzug

Very much enjoyed this

Sexy, bossa nova-y, good morning jam on a Friday.

Pretty great Jazz! Can definitely see myself putting this on while studying or cleaning.

Noah's favorite album so far. Some damn fine bossa nova.

This was a quality album, my brain has new elevator music to play when I'm zoning out now. Desafinado was especially good.

Samba BABY.. SAMBA! YEAAH!!!

Very nice upbeat/smooth jazz

Delivers exactly what it says it is

Pues bien. Mood: caipirinha

“Jazz Samba” by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd (1962) Most readers of these reviews are unfamiliar with this kind of music, but if you’re serious, you should give it a listen. This is especially the case if you have both a burgeoning interest in jazz and already have an interest in classical guitar and Latin music (Ya sabes de quién estoy hablando). At least put it on in the background while you work. Historically, bossa nova came and went, but the beauty of it remains on timeless recordings such as this one. Today’s listeners will be put off by the objectionable level of tape hiss and the somewhat muddy mix and buzzing in the bass, but just imagine yourself in a New York jazz club after a couple of cocktails and you’ll get beyond these defects (This kind of music is why Klipsch speakers were invented). The musical formula for success here is the melodic weaving between the two star performers Stan Getz (tenor sax) and Charlie Byrd (guitar), both giants in the genre. Their melodies are fashioned around chord structures that are more predictable and thus more steadily accessible than progressive jazz—heavy bass on the downbeat, steel brushes on the snare head, gentle syncopated rim shots (and did I mention tasteful and sensuous cowbell? I could use some more cowbell). I breathe a sigh over this music. History is more than the past. It informs who we are in the present. 4/5

Beautiful, relaxing, and fun. Loved Samba Dees Days

Cool rhythms, great percussion and sax, unexpectedly cool guitar

Y no pasa.

amazing jazz

A nice ambiance chill album, I dug it

Jazz clásico. Muy bueno y agradable.

Smooth and jazzy. I liked it, but none of the songs really stood out.

Great sax music, unlike any music I usually listen to. The playing of the sax from Getz with Byrd's guitar is pleasant and fun.

smud jazz

I love Jazz Samba, the Brazillian feel is conducive to relaxing, reading, cooking, dancing, anything that puts you in a good headspace.

I quite liked this one. Winston too.

This is the kind of stuff I was hoping to get introduced to.

Real smooth. Really enjoyed this listening experience.

So so so good, absolutely loved this album. Gave me some jazz vibes but also had some Hawaiian influence too which I was into.

Pretty chill for work.

Dig the fusion. Dig the vibe.

Playing this made my apartment instantly more classy. I like it. Gotta love that Bossa Nova beat.

Great smooth jazz. Timeless

1. Really laid back, shakers are a nice element to the percussion. I love the chill guitar and saxophone. Bass and guitar solos are cool. 2. Saxophone pops off, really like it along with the rhythm guitar. 3. Really cool guitar work, it works amazingly with the saxophone. Love the chill vibe. 4. A more sad track (given the name) that sounds really nice and relaxing while downcast. Saxophone part is really good at conveying this feeling of sadness, which the rhythm guitar accents well. 5. Reminds me of some song, I really love it though. Rhythm guitar is cool. 6. Amazing guitar riff, I love it so much. 7. Really chill guitar, love it so much. Saxophone part is really nice too.

This should be good. Not treadmill listening though!

Very relaxing and soothing. Nice to do the dishes too

First jazz album

Stunning. Great tone.

Lovely

Great easy listening tunes, perfect complement to morning coffee

Cool. Smooth af. Occasionally strays too far towards cheesy lounge music for my tastes. But pretty great overall.

This was truly delightful

Pleasant surprise

Beautiful jazz album

An excellent jazz record that shows all of the shades of the Samba, and a beautiful example of Latin jazz with the ever popular version of "Desafinado" that all will recognize once they hear it.

Super mood music. Makes me want to order a Manhattan in a dark, fancy bar. Love the Latin influences, gets a little dancing out of me. Favorite tracks: "Simba De Uma Nota So", "Desafinado"

I saw "Jazz Samba" and was intimidated, as I typically do not seek out jazz or samba. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this. Great work/walk/chill music.

Another perfect cooking album

Really enjoyed -more than I thought I would - good for dinner time

This list is really showing me that I am not a fan of jazz. That being said, this album was tolerable.

hearable

Pleasant, serviceable. I'm never upset to have this sort of jazz on, but don't seek it out.

groovy good fun. Love stan love charlie

I have this one on Vinyl! it's great background focus music

It's good but with Getz/Gilberto on the list, this seems unnecessary.

Rambling

Dig this one. Chill vibes, great music.

I like how it’s jazz that’s a good start Desafinado pretty good Sounds kinda mexican Okay i got bored its nice but not the type of jazz i like 5/10

Bonitinho

Jazz be jazzin

Jazzito piola, super de chill y de fondo. Nada wow. 6/10

Get yourself a partner who loves you as much as Robert Dimery loves bossa nova. At least this one isn't as boring as the Sinatra one.

samba triste is the closest I've gotten to appreciating jazz

Enjoyable easy listening, but missing the one or two standout tracks that made Getz's other album on here strong. I'd say a low 3. Appreciate it being a real foundation piece.

3.5 Nice and chill, good background music

Just a couple of white guys doing a style made popular in Brazil and selling a bunch of records with it, tale as old as time. This is a “bossa nova” jazz album, which is basically relaxed samba music, very smooth, very easy to listen to. Almost sounded like elevator music at times, but it was a pleasant listen. Couldn’t really tell most of the tracks apart, though; they all have a similar beat and rhythm to them. A solid 3/5, there’s nothing to dislike here, but nothing outstanding either.

Solid background/elevator music (in a good way), more melodic then I like and just wished that it kicked into high gear at times or something.

Jazz back to back!! Very nice, very calm. If I was sitting by the beach, trying to take a nap, this is what I would put on. Maybe I don’t like jazz that much because I was starting to get a little bored. :9

I went on hold to this music and then put the call centre person on hold when they picked up.

3 1/2 maybe

bossa nova na veia meu irmão

My ear is unfortunately not finely tuned enough to understand the different nuances of a Jazz album. Did I enjoy listening to this? absolutely, but the same appreciation of every jazz album I have had on this project. 3.5 stars

Absolutely relaxing, comfy chill. I don't know much about bossa nova or this type of jazz. But is so calming that it is inits own way different from other albums here. That said, i can't lie: it flowed and sounded like an entire long song. And in some sense it was indistinguishable from other similar things I listened to in the past.

buena música para ambientar 6/10

An enjoyable blend of Latin jazz, I listened to this first thing in the morning outside our hotel room by the pool and the day was already suitably warm, so it was the perfect accompaniment to start my day, being an album that feels sunny by nature.

yep thats preddy cool. i think i wouldve preferred a bossa nova record with at least one brazilian involved but c'est la vie

Moderate, i like the vibes when i was listening to it but its not something ill remeber.

SAMBA!!!! ah... é pra gringo...

All jazz is a 3 to me. I cannot tell the good from the bad but it is enjoyable enough.

Not my favorite Stan Getz album but the chemistry is beautiful between the 2. It’s smooth, it’s simple, and it’s straightforward, sometimes that’s all you need

Jazz is such a nice sounding genre.

Very soft nasal sax with a very Latin American vibe accompanied by some kind of classic guitar. Took me away to some sunny holiday relaxed and chilled off the main streets enjoying an intimate performance. Very easy going almost too much, feel like I should be enjoying dinner with friends so I can let the mastery filter in when I am ready. To be fair there was times that demanded my attention "Uma Nota" has a lovely guitar solo followed by some deep bass plonks. Works very well during this heat wave drinking some red wine chilling at my campsite. I think in summary I ultimately enjoy the delicate sounds that brings every rasp of the instrument into focus. It creates a really authentic soundscape / atmosphere which I like. Probably a strong 3 or weak 4.

Just lovely, and fun. Have it on CD somewhere but rarely pull it out. Some this was a great reminder.

I’ve found myself really liking the jazz records on this list, but this one didn’t really hit for me. It’s not awful, it’s just not special. Average album. 3 stars.

It is samba and Jazz in one!!! It is a good background album while I was grading exams. 6/10 seems fair. Top song The first one... Desafinado

Enjoyable.

Instant coffee shop vibes and I'm not mad about it

I expected a bit more from this and while it’s very listenable and enjoyable it does sometimes feel a bit like elevator music somehow.

cool lil background album. not the craziest jazz album, nor is it the best stan getz album. But great sax as expected from the goat. Sexy but not out of this world

Mooi easy listen jazz album

This is my first album as part of this journey. I'm no music critic, certainly not a talented writer, and have never been one for parsing deeper meanings and messages from art. This album is one I would never have selected to listen to on my own. While I don't dislike jazz, its also not something I play intentionally. To me, jazz has always been something on in the background in a bookstore, or something used to draw emotion during a movie scene. This album is only 33 minutes long, but I found my mind wandering during most songs as I listened. Listen, the instruments are beautifully played, the composition is interesting, but if there is a deeper meaning or theme, it has gone over my head. I suppose this is just an album that I'll enjoy at face value.

I think I prefer Getz's album with Gilberto, but this is still really enjoyable

Favorite track: E Luxo So

never really been into jazz, but this was a nice listen :) very relaxing. 3.5/5

I should be in a shiny red sports car driving down the coast of Italy while listening to this. The Sax leads the show, its the heart and soul while the drums, guitar and bass keep the engine running. Not super familiar in general with Bossa Nova but this was a good learning experience.

Nice but didn’t stick after a few listens. Didn’t blow my mind like the other jazz on here.

This was pleasant. I felt like I needed to be eating prime rib at a fine restaurant.

pretty good

This list is trying to get me to like Jazz. I liked this better than most, Jazz is just not my thing I guess.

I think I get "smooth jazz" now. I had this on while I was working and it made working more enjoyable and never interrupted me when I was trying to think. And, when I stopped to listen it was interesting and complex in a way I wasn't expecting.

3.25 - I've liked most of the jazz stuff that's popped up on the list.

3/5. Credited with starting the American Bossa Nova craze of the ‘60s, this album is what it says on the tin, Jazz Samba. Getz’s sax playing is very solid on here and his soloes glide by smoothly. And so does the guitar playing. Though when it comes to Getz’s work, I vastly prefer 1964’s Getz/Gilberto over this one.

Bagooonta bimg-bom dazintz - tsk - tsk - za (mild saxaphone solo) into fade out to another groovily comforting song oom bom ga zbling a doo-wop a shblib-ba.

A little too muzak to be really enjoyable.

First of all, it sounds absolutely great. What a recording. Beautiful. Especially the Saxophone and drums. Sow warm and crisp. The music is quit lovely aswell. An early impression of bossa and samba by american musicians. I enjoyed the listen, as I'm a big fan of Brazilian music of all kinds . I was Especially impressed with Stan Getz's playing here , at some points its ridiculously well. (Better than his work on Getz Gilberto) But it's not Revolutionary enough and in my opinion could have a bit more bite to it. Still a great record and a high 3.

Light and enjoyable

Not really my jam...

I enjoy a good bossa nova and this album it full of them.

bel sottofondo per studiare. mi piace sto genere

Chill listen

(4/7) uncontroversial music for generic restaurants and elevators

Very talented musician. I probably wouldn’t listen to it again.

Music played by musicians.

I like this and yet it does not hit the highs of the Gilberto/Getz Era. I like this I think some of the tracks can fall flat they are still far more interesting than alot of stuff on this list so I can't hate it when the bar is so high. I love this track Desfinado, Genuinely a great way to start an album and yet it goes nowhere til the very end and the very end loses it. It was inconsistent all the way through to where it felt like Charlie Byrd did not really know how to implement himself because this could easily be a 5.

Really stellar playing, but a bit too smooth, a little too dinner party music for my taste. Also, a little turned off by these guys appropriating bossa nova, like, a single year after hearing it for the first time? Obviously they are master instrumentalists, but the authentic Brazilian bossa nova I’ve heard is miles more interesting. All that said, there’s a lot to like here.

Incredible and groovy experience, nothing like I’ve ever heard before given I’m not knowledgeable of the jazz scene. 3/5

Favorite songs: Desafinado, O Pato, Samba Triste, E Luxo So

Fine for background music. Couldn't pick a single song in a line up.

This was fine, this sort of music feels very like restaurant background music to me and maybe I am just not cultured enough to fully appreciate it - and that's fine!

I mean it's kinda just jazz samba init? About as edgy as a satsuma - nice background music though I guess??

Very fun. Very relaxing. Good music

It was nice but I’m personally not into jazz instrumentals all too much.

lovely bossa nova. doesn't place higher because i think it's ultimately stellar background music, but it is a treat for the ears. favorite is Samba Dees Days. strong 3

Rating: 6/10 Perfectly fine and pleasant relaxing smooth jazzy tunes. Feels like I’m in a Pixar movie. Not my thing for listening as an album

As jazz goes, this isn't bad

album jazz sambewi chill i guess

A good album to listen to while you work

Good album, feel like it would be great in a dimly lit room and a glass of whiskey

Smooth. EZ.

light Brazilian-flavored jazz. toes the line of being muzak, but has enough energy to it that i can vibe with it for the half hour or so it's on for. deserves to be one of the 1001? over what Jorge Ben and Joao Gilberto (solo) were doing at the time? that's a hard sell for me

Pleasant music - I’m not a jazz enthusiast so probably missing something, but felt like nice background music for a bar or elevator!

es musica de fondo pero me gusta

Pleasant but borderline boring

? can i have more spanish stuff rather than portugese stuff? thank you. also this makes me feel like im on a fucking beach drinking whatever cocktail thats stereotypically tropic. 3.5/5

Competent noodling

He's definitely better with the Gilbertos, but the guitar here sounds nice enough to save this from being just forgettable elevator music.

Muy relajante, pero suena muy antiguo.

This felt like I knew which hotels have the best whiskey in every major town.

i usually dislike jazz, but actually listening to this album while doing schoolwork made my sociology exercises way less painful to endure :) it’s nice as background music. not my favorite album ever, but a nice surprise.

I can only assume this is an excellent version of the genre. Sounds great, I'll listen again, but to my ears it sounds like any other samba. 3 - deserves to be on this list

For 30 minutes, truly made me feel like the girl from ipanema

Bit of a funky vibe, could totally see myself putting this on at one of my dinner parties. Definitely think the funkier, danceable jazz/jazz fusion is more for me than the more classical/avant garde stuff

Heel jazzy album idd.

Very pleasant. Somehow it was the exact thing I needed to ease me back into work.

Velvety

I fw this one. It seems quite popular on Spotify already with just under 100M streams so surprising I missed it. Instrumental only and also coming from Brazil so soon and listening to samba whilst out there, it really paints a pic and brings up some nostalgic feelings. Especially seeing the last record titled “Bahia”. Good record would listen to again

muy jazzoso 75/100

Chill beats to study to

Cooking in the kitchen type music

Sætt bossa nova. Alveg gaman að hafa þetta í bakgrunni.

I know it's objectively good, but it's not for me. Reminded me of being at a cocktail hour at a really nice wedding in Brooklyn. It sounds like cigar smoke and an Aviation in a rocks glass.

Muy relajante y con lindas melodías. Para escuchar mientras trabajas!

it was just jazz...

Not too great, not too bad. Just a 3. Stan Getz’s Jazz Samba is one of those albums that feels like it wandered in from a cruise ship lounge and never quite found its way back out. The whole record glides along with the soft-focus sheen of something you’d hear as you board The Love Boat, cocktail in hand, wondering if the steel drum band missed their call time while Captain Stuebing gets to schtupping. There’s no denying the musicianship—Getz’s tone is famously smooth, and Charlie Byrd’s guitar work is tasteful to a fault—but the album often drifts into that pleasantly inoffensive territory we now associate with elevator music. It’s the kind of sound that gently pats you on the shoulder and says, “Don’t worry, nothing challenging will happen here.” The bossa nova rhythms are undeniably charming, but they’re also so feather-light that the whole experience can feel like background music for a dentist’s waiting room that’s trying a little too hard to seem “worldly.” Even the standout track, “Desafinado,” floats by like a warm breeze—lovely, but not exactly gripping. In short: Jazz Samba is smooth, sunny, and historically important, but if you’re looking for something with bite, this one might leave you feeling like you’ve just listened to the world’s classiest hold music.

More Jazz, still not my favorite. It's still fine. Don't hate it, just don't care

250/1089 i was kinda expecting to not be super excited by this. I liked Getz/Gilberto and Beach Samba alright but it didn’t hook me. this one, however, did! it grew on me pretty quickly and i could definitely see this becoming part of my reading rotation 69/100

Solid bossa nova record.

Nice background music. Don't know how to appreciate jazz though, all the tracks sounded the same to me.

That’s not really my style but it’s an interesting blend between the smoothess side of jazz and rhe rhythmic beat of samba.

Not much to chew on, but it is nice, relaxing music

A pleasant listen.

Very pleasant, laidback bossanova and jazz.

Much more accessible than the John Coltrane album we ranked. I actually enjoyed the jazz instrumentals over the samba rhythms, and found it easier to follow than just about any jazz album I’ve heard.

Not bad

Haven't I heard this before? This time the album does not include Girl from Ipanema, and is all the worse for it. But more chill bossa nova grooves, so natural and flowing its hard to pay attention to.

nice n calming

It was nice without ever getting me very excited. There wasn't a single standout track, but it's the sort of album I could put on in the background while working and it would help me relax without ever interrupting me.

I do like this - nice samba rhythms, smooth vocals, great instrumentals. But I don't love it. There are no real stand out tracks or moments for me. Good but not great.

Apparently, this is Brazilian-style jazz made by Americans. It's very relaxing, and I could see it being played in a nice restaurant or bar. Unfortunately, that's exactly why it doesn't stand out to me. While all jazz, including this album, is competently played and generally immaculate sounding, I vastly prefer the sounds of free jazz. The vast majority of lounge jazz albums struggle to be interesting, and while this has a nice Latin bent to it, I don't find it hugely captivating. It's kind of just there, not really evoking any emotion in me.

Very pleasant sound, very competent musicians. Yet another excellent example of music playing in a coffee shop, in the background. Definitely recognise the first track. I enjoyed the rhythm and sound. However, this isn't my type of music, so would probably not listen to this again.

Very groovy. I like it but I will say I pretty much never listen to jazz so I'll add it to my study album as a back round noise.

Listens: 3 Standout Tracks: Quick 30 minute album. Couldn't really parse out the differences between songs or when one song ends and another begins. Like so many other instrumental jazz albums on the List, this was easy listening, light, gental and quite mellow. Put it on while cooking or when company is over. It's fine.

Fun smooth jazz, nice flute action.

Enjoyably chill. Don sunglasses and linen and pretend you're somewhere far away for a while.

Easy listening!

I listened to this on the train ride home. Perfect vibe for watching the nighttime cityscape pass by. Not the kind of thing I would have sought out on my own.

STANDOUTS: Desafinado, Samba Dees Days, É luxo só This is the type of music that would be perfect for a candlelight dinner with your partner. It's not the most mind-blowing jazz album out there, but it doesn't need to be. It serves its purpose as a relaxed mix of samba, bossa nova and jazz very well. 7.5/10

Feels like a warm weather vacation

Zone out a lil bit. Was easy to zone out. Good background/cafe music.

2nd bossa nova album from this guy. Not complaining though, it was fun 3/5

Highlights: Desafinado; Samba De Uma Nota So Lowlights: ---------------------- Chill maxed as hard as I could listening to this. Wouldn't mind it again but wouldnt search it out.

I felt a bit triggered listening to this, reminded me of the last time I was on hold to my internet provider, waiting to tell them a few things they needed to fucking hear. Other than that it was cool

In the bar on holiday

Enjoyable to listen to. Great jazz album, but I have to be in the mood for easy listening jazz.

listened

Everyday, slice of life ost energy with some pizazz! Started off a 4 but bumping down to 3 as it stressed me out a little when working.

Really liked track 4 Samba Triste. Overall, samba isn't my favorite flavor of jazz but it is a solid album. Gonna have to go with a 3 for this cus while I respect the musicality it still sounds like high class elevator music to me

Enjoyable

Solid, easy going music. I put it on in the car yesterday on the way home and the kids didn't think to ask for Alvin and the Chipmunks, so that was great. I spent a lot of time last year listening to Getz/Gilberto, but that's also on this list, so I'll save my thoughts for when we get to it.

Good jazz, most songs kinda sounded the same

Nice. Not my style, but still nice

Not a huge fan of Jazz but this was relaxing

Best Song: O Pato. Short, playful, gets out of the way as soon as it has done what it needs to do. Worst Song: Bahia. The mix felt a bit off, and the longer runtime didn't really feel justified. Overall: Fun little jazz album. I imagine it is perfect background music for cooking or during dinner. Light but interesting.

Doesn't rise above pleasant background music for me

Pretty chill. I was pretty upbeat and this was not doing it for me, more like high-quality elevator music. But in the right setting it sounds be nice.

I did a puzzle to this and it was perfect. Outside of puzzle-solving situations, I probably won’t return to it much.
