Love
5/5
While I am biased to this era, this album stands out among the rest. I really fuck with the psychedelic folk feel and the sound stage is just perfect. Has power where it needs it and soft beauty to fill the space. I knew Alone Again Or going into the listen, but did not expect it to blow me away like this. Going to be a must purchase on vinyl and one of those top albums I have heard so far. 9/10

The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
2/5
Overall a pretty cool Punk hip hop fusion album that has some cool moments, but not really and big hits. I do like this album, but don't think it is upper echelon worthy of all the other great albums out there.

So here we are. The first 10/10 album I have gifted from this list. This album is fantastic on every level. Beautiful song writing, beatiful playing, beautiful story. It is eternal. It is Pink Moon. Would not change a single note. Vinyl purchased day of and listened though back to back.

America from the perspective of Canadians. Concept strung throughout which is cool. Its as if Bob Dylan were a band
Penguin Cafe Orchestra
4/5
This album changed my perspective on this entire project of mine. Wow. Just wow. Such a beautiful gem of an album that sounds like the most beautiful piece of lost media until it hit my ears for the first time.
The La's
2/5
Not the best album ever, not even a super entertaining listen. Some cool tracks, but nothing to write home about. Strick 2/5
The Velvet Underground
4/5
Shockingly amazing album. I know that The Underground has always had a cult following, and I love some of their tunes, but this album shocked me for sure. Extremely tender with well placed energy
The Bees
3/5
Fun album that would be great on a sunny hungover day. Some cool tunes, but nothing that really grabs me
The Damned

Super high energy rip face album. One of the finer punk albums that I have ever heard. So many cool guitar solos and rythyms
Frank Black
3/5
Cool album, but just not my jam
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Introduction to the wonderful world of Bob Marley. Reggae is so fucking great.
Tom Waits
2/5
Most interesting of any album I have heard thus far. Humor album at a Jazz Club, but recorded in the studio. Just for the ambition I have to give it a 2
The The
1/5
80s and punk had a baby and this was the result. Unfortunately I don't love either enough to enjoy this album
The Doors
4/5
This album was so important for the scene of music and creates this immaculate vibe. God the Doors are fucking awesome.
Slipknot
4/5
This album is such a breath of fresh air. Fucking unbeleiveable musicianship and songs. Heavy as fuck, right in your face, RAAAAAAAAAAA I WANT TO PUNCH A BABY IN THE FACE RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
The Shamen
3/5
Going to have to deep dive early electronica after this one. Not the best album of all time, but is a glimpse into a really cool world that I have never explored
Public Image Ltd.
1/5
bitter angry album without much of a musical context at all. I don't like it and I don't see how anyone else could either
The Temptations
4/5
Super fun listen. Fantastic Motown that makes me want someone special in my life. Fun music
Waylon Jennings
3/5
One of the first albums that I have really enjoyed in the vein of true country. No standout tracks, but great listen - calming
Joan Armatrading
3/5
Started out great with some awesome tracks, took a detour and landed the plane with some incredible tracks. Not unbeleivavle, not horrible. The tender stuff is what standsout. "nondepressed Tracy Chapman"
Radiohead
4/5
Very sad and depressing album, which is ok because they pull it off so well. Tackles so many themes on the impact of technology over humans. Some fantastic tracks, but not as good as their masterpiece, In Rainbows
The Saints
1/5
I just don't like this kind of punk. It lacks any musical complexity and doesn't have great guitar solos
Pavement
2/5
Can hear the fresh starts of some shoegazie indie stuff in here. Garage rock and some passion behind it. 3/10
Motörhead
3/5
The roots of metal music to come with a focus on the punk side of it. Cool to see the how punk influenced the roots of metal. Fun live album, wasn't in the mood for it
The xx
3/5
Vocals are a bit strange and lacking, but the overall chill vibe of the record makes it captivating. Solid.
Yes
3/5
Good prog. Classic Prog sound, but unfortuanately I don't love love prog rock. I can get halfway there with a band like Rush and some Yes tunes, but mostly it goes over my head
Dire Straits
5/5
Reminded me of why I love Rock so damn much. This album surprised me to say the least. I mean I knew that I liked the Dire Straits, but I had never sat through this album in particular before. Every song fucks. Gonna have to go pick this one up at the record store tomorrow...
The Doors
4/5
I don't think this one stacks up to their original, but definetly has some great hits in it. Riders on The Storm is a fantastic tune and it set a nice vibe
Depeche Mode
1/5
Don't love the industrial sound of this album. Reeks of a genre of music that never came to be. Not much enjoyable about the music itself
Lorde
1/5
Lorde has a very unique voice in the world of pop. She is super interesting compared to other pop artists that I have grown to dislike. That being said, pop just isn't for me. It is the epitome of why I dislike modern popular music
Nick Drake
5/5
So here we are. The first 10/10 album I have gifted from this list. This album is fantastic on every level. Beautiful song writing, beatiful playing, beautiful story. It is eternal. It is Pink Moon. Would not change a single note. Vinyl purchased day of and listened though back to back.
The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
2/5
Overall a pretty cool Punk hip hop fusion album that has some cool moments, but not really and big hits. I do like this album, but don't think it is upper echelon worthy of all the other great albums out there.
Kanye West
5/5
This is Kanye's masterpiece and it includes his magnum opus and the greatest rap song ever made, Runaway. This album is the peak of Hip Hop and changed my life. Not perfect, but so so so close.
Burning Spear
3/5
My favorite non Marley Reggae album that I have ever listened to. Some very cool tracks and overall solid "take a hit of this man" vibe. Tackles concepts of Jamaica and reeks of Kingston
Rush
3/5
First track is an absolute journey and this is an interesting side of Rush. I don't think it stacks up to Moving Pictures, but a fun listen with a lot of good tracks
2/5
Bowie bowie and more bowie. The best of the Bowie albums, but still bowie.
Beatles
5/5
This album is one of the most pivotal in the history of music. It paved the way not only for revolver, but showed big bands that they could experiment with music that is not conventional for the masses. It is the Beatles "Cannabis" album and the vibe is so money. In My Life and Norwegian Wood are 10/10 tracks and the supporting cast from the rest of the list is great too. The first Bealtes album in the Chronology that is a 'must listen,' and easily falls in my top 3 beatles albums ever. A couple tracks make this not a 10/10, but it is a very very high 9
Fugazi
2/5
It is a cool album and worth the listen, just doesn’t float my boat
Cream
4/5
I am on an absolute heater of great music right now. This is another one of those fantastic albums that paved the way for so much more of what I like and love. Clapton's most psychadelic piece. Soooooo busting
Count Basie & His Orchestra
3/5
Great break from rock and roll into some solid big band Jazz. A wonderful playlist for a quick study session or throwing on a suit
Marty Robbins
3/5
Coming into this one with a bit of knowledge about the album beforehand. This is the peak of western music and contains some of the greatest country songs ever made. Get me a pint of golden water and a cowboy hat - yeeeeeeehawww
Green Day
3/5
Great sounding album, best audio I have heard out of a punk album, but again this style of music isn't really my jam. I like that all the songs sound similar. All around solid 90s album that is worth the listen
The Birthday Party
1/5
This album sounds like you are having a party with every person in your life that you dislike. Surrounded by those that annoy you, this party doesn't even have punch. The recording is the thoughts going through your head as you sit there pissed off and angry
Sigur Rós
5/5
I know that I will be echoing a lot of people's words, but this album is fucking awesome. Super unique, but somehow familiar all the same. Some of the most beautiful and poignant piece arranged. A fantastic place to start into the world of international music and how language isn't a mandatory requirement for understanding music itself. A must listen to album. Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful. 2nd 10/10 album on this list
Paul Simon
3/5
Pretty unique album that blends a lot of different international sounds into one stage, but doesn’t have the punch that some of the upper echilon bums have. 7/10
Garbage
2/5
Glad I got the chance to listen to this album, but it din't knock my socks off. Solid, but just another 90s garage rock band
The Dictators
3/5
Surprisingly really good Punk album. I was expecting just another run of the mill heat of the movement record, but this one combines a lot of different sounds into its completion and I like the blend of psych, blues, punk, and surf
4/5
Classic early 70s rock / psych rock combo with some sweet sound stages and killer jams. Not as sophistocated as some other albums, but that is okay. Does its job and does it well. 7/10
Justin Timberlake
1/5
I really dislike pop music done like this. For the masses and it shows. Not much artistry at all
Arctic Monkeys
1/5
Just not my jive here. Not the best Arctic Monkeys album and a roadbump along the path of this project
Bob Dylan
3/5
I know that this rating will catch me some flack, but while I fucking love Bob Dylan, this album just doesn't do it for me. Like a Rolling Stone is great, but there are many duds. Good closing. An album of all the albums
Black Flag
2/5
Same issue ive had with other Punk albums. A bit too angry without musical prowess. Interesting, but not amazing
Emmylou Harris
2/5
I liked this country album even though country isn't my hallmark genre of music. Cool to see the roots of that movement in the 70s and her voice is beautiful
Os Mutantes
4/5
Out there psych rock from the late 60s. Fun listen, but not the best album I have ever heard. Some tunes are very unique and you can tell various influences. 7/10
Cocteau Twins
4/5
The roots of many Shoegaze / Dream Pop albums to come. Super cool layering on each song throughout and the atmosphere of the album is unique and sublime. Overrated, but solid 8/10
Adele
3/5
Adele's voice is amazing and this is one of her better albums for sure. For me being a non-pop fan, I did enjoy this listen and Someone Like You is an absolute classic. Might be the highest rating that a modern pop album receives on this journey 6/10
Love
John Coltrane
5/5
On another huge streak! Fantastic album, up there with the best Jazz ever put to record. This certainly makes the list for the "Mount Rushmore" of jazz along with Kind of Blue. Coltrane's magnum opus and a must listen if you want to rate and music whatsoever to my face
Jamiroquai
4/5
This was an awesome record that I had never heard of. Made the conneciton to Canned Heat from Nepolion Dynamite, but otherwise don't know any of their other tracks. This record is fueled by energy and forces you to bust a groove. For that alone, I must rate it highly and the overall intrumentation is super groovy and fun. 8/10
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
Creedence Clearwater Revival is a consistent star in my lineup of musical knowledge. The tracks they produced are just so much fun but also have that bluesy grit of the late 60s psych rock movement. The only issue I have with their albums are they they are often pretty short and their hits are spread out over 5-6 amazing albums. Wonderful follow up to their debut and contains Proud Mary, which if you don't like, I likely don't like you! 7/10.
B.B. King
4/5
I can see why John Mayer loved this album and listened to it all the time. To have music like this in the mid 60s did so much for almost every genre of banging guitars going forward. The birth of the transcendental guitarist solos and the combo of this music and psych rock going forward would change my life
The Beta Band
3/5
One of the more shockingly good albums on this list. Happened to be a wonderful little listen with some great tracks and atmosphere. 6/10
Erykah Badu
4/5
The best female rap album ive ever heard and my introduction into Neo Soul I guess. Really messed with the vibe from the start and laid back atmosphere. Will return to this one
The Style Council
2/5
Jazz and pop together in one album with an 80s noise. Some moments of good, but lots of moments of "wow there are so many better songs out there"
OutKast
2/5
Listened to this one right after a Pharcyde album and honestly the Pharcyde sound just matches my vibe much better. I like this style of rap, but something about Outkast throws me off a bit. A perfect 5/10 album in my mind
Sade
1/5
Bad representation of hip hop females. Kind of lack luster lyricism and mediocre beats. Would have been a better album with just the saxophone…
Frank Zappa
4/5
Best fusion album that has hit my ears since Bitches Brew. A wonderful combo of the worlds and a great introduction into the wacky world of Frank Zappa.
Various Artists
3/5
Of any christmas album, this one tops the list. Only issue - works exactly one week of the year
The Pharcyde
4/5
This was a dope early 90s rap albums - one of my new favorites from that era. Conceptual with great thick beats and awesome tunes.
Arcade Fire
1/5
I read a comment about this one "what the album your friend tells you to listen to sounds like". Couldn't be more accurate. Best part about it was when it ended
Johnny Cash
4/5
This is a powerful record due to its heavy emotional weight and incredible vulnerability from JC. I had never listened to it all the way through, but after hearing the beast in its entirety, I have much more context to the song hurt and it might be my favorite (predominately) cover album of all time. They are each unique and he brings his own style without ruining the originals. A must listen to. 9/10
The Allman Brothers Band
5/5
Mortal words don't describe this behemouth of an album. This is by far and away the greatest "live album" ever put to tape and stands up there with the greatest albums of all time. The Allman Brothers were the pinnacle of southern blues sound, but what set them apart was their on stage performances. This one has been played hundreds of times in my cans and will play thousands to come. Liz Reed has potential to be the greatest guitar track ever put to tape and the Whipping Post is other worldly. This album is on fire from the drop of the needle and is an absolute must listen to for any music fan on planet earth, or not... If I could rate it 6 stars, you could bet your ass that I would.
Pixies
1/5
I want to like the pixies. Trust me I have tried, but their sound just irks me. I wouldn't return to a single track on this album
Lloyd Cole And The Commotions
3/5
This one caught me by surprise. I was expecting yet another post rock underground punk album, but was pleased with the tender moments of this piece and some relateable lyrics. Not the best album ever, but a great representation of why this challenge is important!
Miles Davis
3/5
You can tell this album is the direct precurser to the magnum opus that is Bitches Brew. Unfortunately this one is much more regimented and feels like he is still grasping onto the form of Jazz albeit with loose hands. I may have to listen to it again and again and again like Bitches Brew to finally grasp its power, but as of now I see it as the demo tapes for whats to come of the Davis Fusion era. In a Silent Way stands out over Shhh Peaceful and combines some super cool slowed down dreamy moments 6/10
Bob Marley & The Wailers
4/5
Much more appreciation for this album comes from watching the Marley movie One Love. Seeing the backstory behind its creation and some of the songs makes it stand out as the king of Reggae albums and a monolith of Jamaican culture. This pack contains some of the most timeless hits ever put to record and never fails to put a smile on your face. Not perfect conceptually, but doesn't need to be and will always be there when you just want to groove and enjoy the morning. 8/10
Peter Gabriel
1/5
This album sounds like what it feels like to soak your balls in just below room temperature water
Van Morrison
2/5
My first live Moorison experience. To be honest, I am a Van Fan, but this side of his music catalog doesn't really do it for me. I fucking love Astral Weeks to death, but he didn't play much of it here. One song that really stood out was Listen to the Lion which reminded me of that album. What made astral weeks so great was how understated it was and the intricate jazz arrangements behind his mystical voice. Some of that is lost in this recording and his bigger production songs which I don't appreciate as much from him. Its why I wouldn't consider Brown Eyed Girl one of his better works... Good listen but dragged on at times - 4/10
Pulp
1/5
There is something about this album that really frustrates me
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
2/5
The lyrics on this one really distract from the rest of what is going on. Would have been much, much better released as an instrumental track highlighting the band around the lead singer instead of his Talking Heads wanna be head ass. Lukewarm 3/10.
Beastie Boys
3/5
This was a good album that was just a touch too long. Its hallmark is its vibe which is very chill and the production is awsome too, but it gets boring at bits due to its length. 6/10
Mudhoney
1/5
Like listening to Virnana instead of Nirvana
Iron Maiden
4/5
God damn did I really fucking enjoy this listen. I was a bit worried that it would be saturated early 80s "DnD" metal, but I couldn't have been more wrong. This album fucks and so does Eddie. 8/10
Thin Lizzy
2/5
The very definition of good, not great. Thin Lizzy has some great tunes over the years, but something about this live album doesn't speak to me. 3/10
Muddy Waters
2/5
One of those foundational albums that are basic requirements to get into a certain kind of music. Early onset Blues in a time period that needed it. So many acts we know and love were directly influenced by Muddy Waters and this performance. That being said, not the best Blues to ever be released and drags at parts. 5/10
Kendrick Lamar
5/5
Although as a middle class white person it is extremely difficult to relate to them, Kendrick Lamar's lyrics really steal the show here. He is a story-teller and an amazing one at that. His music takes you on a journey through his experience of life and each song is a different portal to a scene in his movie. The production and musicality of the beats and samples behind his lines turn this into one of the best Hip Hop albums ever released. Wonderful stuff. 9/10
Little Richard
4/5
I liked this bum and found a lot of joy hearing the early freedom expression of rock music. Not the most technical playing, but doesn't need to be. A foundational album in the history of rock music and a well deserved record on this list. 7/10
Don McLean
1/5
I can't stand American Pie. 1/10
Leonard Cohen
5/5
I was a bit floored by this album. Starting to realize just how much I like folk music - particularly stuff like this with really deep emotions tied to the themes throughout. Reminds me of a combination between Bob Dylan / Nick Drake / and The Van. Fantastic album that is going to push me into listening to maybe his entire catelog. I loved every single track and imagine that this album only gets better with each listen. 9/10
The Who
1/5
This one is surprisingly low compared to how I thought I was going to like it. It really just didn't hit as I thought it would and honeslty sounded much noisier and confusing than enjoyable. There was some cool theatrical parts, but overall not that great.
Jethro Tull
2/5
Jethro Tull is new to me and I am shocked that that is the case. They make a wonderful blend of Prog rock and classic rock / psychadelic noise. That being said, the concepts are just too far out of reach for the casual listen and this record in particular doesn't train well like I imagine Thick as a brick does. Unique and sensitive to the environment you will be in. 4/10
Missy Elliott
1/5
God damn this sucks
R.E.M.
1/5
Of the 80s, this is an album that was released. 2/10
Iggy Pop
2/5
Nightclubbing was certainly the highlight of this album and I am sure that if I was a counter-culture individual growing up in the late 70s, this album would be on my table constantly. Unfortunately I am not, and so this receives a solid 3/10
James Brown
4/5
Listening to this album feels like watching a black and white video of the early 60s. At the bare minimum, it is an ultimately cool piece of American History and should be celebrated as such. I mean cmon now, its James Brown! 7/10
Dire Straits
4/5
I consider this album to be the first battle in the war that ended with the death of Vinyl. A fully digital production relased on CDs, this album has some of the best sounding tracks for the time and has a great blend of that pub sound with the influence of the 80s. Brothers in Arms will go down as one of the greatest songs ever produced and that intro to Money For Nothing is enough to make a grown man cry. The only reason that I docked a couple notches for this rating is that I have a feeling that I want to like this album more than I actually do for some reason. I think I prefer their self-titled debut a bit more than this monolith for its simiplicity and energy. That being said, this is a mandatory listen if you want to have any opinion about music at all and will consistently pop up on lists around the world. 8/10
The Rolling Stones
5/5
I knew that this album would be good, but I didn't expect this. Wow wow wow. So many influences going on in this album and unknown tracks that just bannnnnnng. This will become one of my favorites in another listen I'm sure and is almost guarunteed to sound incredible on vinyl. 9/10 for now...
The Soft Boys
4/5
The best new wave album I have ever heard. Would be perfect If I liked new wave, but for it being a genre I am not keen to, this one rocks. 7/10
Bob Dylan
3/5
I heavy fucked with this album. I am a big time Blood on the Tracks fan and the tenderness of these pieces reminded me a lot of that side to Dylan's discography. Some longer ballads and full on heart wrenching poems in this one. If there weren't so many filler tracks it would be a bit higher, but I gotta be objective and give this one a 6/10
The Black Keys
2/5
One of the more unique sounds that I have heard. I really like the vocal distortion and the driving Blues feel. That being said, all songs sound pretty similar and the overall musicallity is a bit bland. 4/10
Black Sabbath
5/5
10/10. Absolute BEHEMOTH of a record and a masterpiece of original sound. You have to remember that Sabbath was making this noise in 1970. Metal wouldn't peak for another decade and who doesn't love the psychedelic blues influence on these numbers? I mean c'mon now if you rated this anything below a 4 star, I simply can never be your friend and hope that you can get to a doctor to check out whatever you've got going on inside of your messed up head. This is a masterpiece on all fronts and is one that I will blast on the way to dropping off my son at school with no remorse. Perfection.
Khaled
2/5
As potentially the least informed and reputable brain on middle eastern music in the entire world, I feel as though I cannot accurately rate this album without offence to someone. That being said - 3/10 haha
Leftfield
1/5
2 hours too long. 1/10 for the effort of making something that no one wants to listen to
George Harrison
5/5
Perchance the greatest Triple LP of all time? Hit after hit after hit after hit after hit after hit af… Who knew George had this in him? Love the spiritual nature of this album and the themes of love, introspection, and wonder. He communicates it all so well in a huge format, but no song seems forced somehow. Each one hits for a different reason and it almost feels more like classic rock than a lot of the Beatles records. A fantastic baseline for a good album and a nice introduction to the Beatles post break solo work
The Rolling Stones
4/5
Finally had the chance to sit down and listen to this one. Was on a flight to Vegas for my roomates 21st birthday and this album perfectly matched that vibe. I do think that it could have been a single LP and packed a bit more punch (I.E Sticky Fingers), however for what its work there isn't a "bad" track on this whole thing and just for that alone it deserves the praise that it does get. 8/10
Lou Reed
2/5
The 3 is SOLEY for the song Walk on the Wild Side which is one of the greatest tunes ever made. Other than that, this album really has nothing that special
LTJ Bukem
3/5
All this early techno got me feeling wonky in the best way possible
Elton John

If Tiny Dancer was extended into an LP. Exactly 7/10

Simply not for me. 1/10
Jack White
2/5
Would be a respectable album if it was just the backing tracks without lyrics… 3/10 for the instruments alone
The Police
3/5
If there were a perfectly mediocre album of all time award, this one would be nominated
Orbital
3/5
Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day
The Flaming Lips
3/5
As an album this one succeeds in following a general theme, but at times was a bit hard to listen to. Its complex in its delivery and not in a great way. 2002 is early for this sound and there are some great tracks on here. 6/10
Super Furry Animals

Shit sucks. 1

Jefferson Airplane
4/5
It would be very difficult for someone to not like this album and also have a good taste in music. This kind of sound was the start of everything music stands for and puts the love in summer of love. Embryonic Journey is one of the most moving sub 2 minute pieces I have ever heard. Solid 8/10
JAY Z

Rage Against The Machine carries this album here. That song fucks, the rest of it is quesitonable. 3/10

As if the Mick Jagger took acid at a European techno club in 1989. Crazy sound design that somehow just fucking works, but too many down songs for a super high rating. 6/10

"Live band party on the hill"
Sly & The Family Stone
2/5
I thought this was a cool album, but parts of it really put me to sleep. With just a smidge more energy it wouldv'e been an awesome listen, but it just did not do it for me
Led Zeppelin
3/5
I have never really loved this album. I've listened to it more times than I can count and outside of Stairway to Heaven and Going to California, it just really doesn't do it for me. I am a big time Zep I and II guy and think their early stuff kicks ass. I can't in good honesty rate this album above a 7/10
Soundgarden
3/5
One of the better Grunge albums ever made. A really special combo of classic / psych rock and the dark grunge sound of the 90s. Enjoyed the listen, but felt as though it could be just a hair shorter. Black Hole Sun is a perfect track and for just that alone I rate this one a 6/10
Neil Young
2/5
Some of these tracks are really, really good. The vibe of the album is certianly potent, but nothing really grabs you. A classic album that is a must listen from this list, but nothing super unique about this one
Ice T

Pere Ubu
1/5
Ive never liked an album less from the needle drop that this one
Charles Mingus
4/5
I really like this album's ambition to make a jazz concept album. The 4 tracks are well separated, but combine so many elements from each other that it does feel like one cohesive piece - something that is rare for Jazz albums of its time. 8/10
Prince
1/5
This whole album could have been released as just the solo track Little Red Corvette
The Residents
2/5
I know that a lot of people don't like this album, but something about it put me on. I love when bands get creative and this is exactly that. Weird, exotic, avant garde, something that you would never hear elsewhere. What else were you looking for when you decidided to do this challenge??? 4/10
The Police
1/5
Not great, not even good
Lupe Fiasco
3/5
I am the type of person that only likes certain types of Hip Hop / Rap. Honesly, I was kind of dreading listening to another Hip Hop album today, but this one really delivered. There are some awesome tracks on here and while it is just a smidge bit too long, this was a great look at non-Kanye rap in the late 00's. The lyrical rapping was off the charts with so many crazy bars and the production was top notch. 6/10
Radiohead
3/5
Came on a day when I was viciously defending Radiohead to a person that slighted their fanbase. That being said, some of their stuff is wildly out there and very dissonant. Good album, but not In Rainbows. 5/10
Steely Dan
4/5
This is the sound of a suburban dad in socks and sandals and its fucking awesome
3/5
I am not well versed in soul music, but this was one of the better soul albums I have listened to. It was a good blend of relaxed energy and instrumentation. I bet it sounds wicked good on vinyl. City, Country, City is outstanding. 6/10
Suede
2/5
Britpop can be cool I guess
Duke Ellington
4/5
I knew that Duke Ellignton was someone that I had to deep dive. He is a god and walked this earth so that Coltrane, Davis, and Mingus could run. What a fun fun jazz album and a new must have on Vinyl
Prince
3/5
The best of Prince's efforts as a musician. These songs are quinnisential 80s and I mean cmon now, Purple Rain is a 10/10, album as a whole is a 6
Blur

Nails to a chalkboard
Sonic Youth

Leonard Cohen
2/5
I was really looking forward to this album, but something about this one didn't click like Songs From. Some interesting lyrics and songwritting, but overall slow and hard to get into. 3/10
Dr. John
2/5
Just by the sound of the album alone, you could guess that this guy was from New Orleans. Super abstract as far as blues psych goes, but there is a vibe to the record as a whole. 4/10
CHIC
4/5
This is a great album and would be ranked higher only if it had more of a concept around it. Straight disco fury with a lot of influence from the funk happening at the time too. Would not expect so many polished songs if I didn't hear them myself. Great bum.

Blue Cheer
5/5
Maybe not the start of Metal, but it has to be the start of stoner rock. That sludgy guitar fuzz is so money. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I fuck with this heavy. 9/10
Michael Jackson
4/5
You would be foolish to rate this anything under an 8/10. It's prime MJ putting his soul onto wax. Every song is at the bare minimum good, and at the maximum amazing
Bruce Springsteen
1/5
Talking Heads
1/5
This album annoys me for some reason
3/5
I will admit for 1967 this had to have been a shock to the system of the pop music world. That being said, I don't think this is the best effort that the Beatles put forward in their tenure. I would name Rubber Soul, Revolver, Abbey Road, The White Album, and potentially even Let It Be as bett than this one. There are some great tunes in here hence the 6/10 rating, but overall not the best thing in the world
Steely Dan
5/5
Some say this is a peak of studio recording, some say it sounds like an ass turd. Luckily I fall into the prior category. This album fucks and if you don’t like it, I will have a tough time being your friend
Santana
5/5
Abraxas is one of those albums that changes your musical taste forever. Santana and his all star crew take you on a spiritual journey across the globe and then into the cosmos and beyond. It is so pure and perfectly jammy, yet psychadelic and groovy all in one. A masterclass of a piece that fits so many different environments. Tender and emotional yet fierce as a tiger and directly to your face. A must have in any collection, but not perfection. 9/10
Nick Drake
4/5
I am a Nick Drake stan, but I do have to admit that this is not his best effort. Of the three of his albums that were ever put to tape, this one falls third. Not to say its not a great album, but even with all that is added, something feels missing. Nick isn't supposed to sound this poppy with his music and it seems like he just kind of isn't into the sound stage that was created with this album. That being said, I really do like the Van Moorison type instrumentals and the singer songwritter feel to it. Hard to assess, but 7/10
Genesis
1/5
If you were to buy a Yes album from the dollar section of Walmart, it would sound like this
Tim Buckley
3/5
I did enjoy this listen as I rode a rainy bus into Denver to meet up with a good friend for the night. One of those voices that encapsulates a time and you could probably pinpoint the year of the album without knowing it on first listen.
That being said, I didn't fall in love with it as others have and I couldn't objectively put it up there with some of my all time favorites. This one falls as one of the albums on the list and a good one to remind yourself that it is hard to make incredible music.
5/10
Harry Nilsson
3/5
The one word I think of when listening to this album is interesting. There is a lot going on lyrically that seems odd, but just makes sense. Blues influenced rock at its core, but there are tinges of other genres all over this thing. 6/10
Louis Prima
3/5
This reminded me of my Jazz Fest experience this year. Some of the songs weren't great, but its an old jazz album so give it a break. 6/10
Gorillaz
2/5
There is something a little bit awkward about this music. I know a lot of people LOVE the Gorillaz, but it comes off as cringe to be and doesn't do anything wild to my music radar. I would rather listen to good hip hop OR good rock, not both in a mush. 3/10
Echo And The Bunnymen
1/5
Van Halen
5/5
Van Halen’s Van Halen. Not much more to say other than this album fucks. Stands for every reason hard rock is amazing. Tasty solos, breakdown points, lyrics from the gutter. So great - 9/10
David Bowie
4/5
What stands out to me most on this album is the backing instrumentals and vocals. I am a known Bowie hater and I know that, but this was my most enjoyable of the Bowie listens that I have had this far. As Zach pointed out, one cool thing about Bowie is that his albums follow the time period that they were made in very well. It then makes sense that I like the sound of this album as the late 70s hold some of my more favorite musical pallates. 7/10
Willie Nelson
4/5
There’s my Willie. Great album, shocked I’ve never listened to it though. So emotive with limited instruments. Soulful, great songwriting, like a warm hug. 8/10
Al Green
4/5
Some great easy listening soul on display here. Some more emotional tunes sprinkled into a bed of warm soul sound about love and connection. Classic and timeless. 7/10
Meat Puppets
3/5
The Nirvana plug here makes sense. I can see how music like this led to what became Nirvana and the grunge movement in the future. I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. 5/10
The Byrds
2/5
It's not the beatles
Elvis Costello & The Attractions
1/5
Bob Marley & The Wailers
3/5
Not Marley’s best effort, not Marley’s worst. A solid 6/10 album
Willie Nelson
2/5
Laura Nyro
2/5
The redeeming factor of this album is the jazz influences spicing up the backing of the tracks. Joni Mitchell writes 10 times better songs so I don’t really see the point in an artist like this. 3/10
Depeche Mode
3/5
There are some standout tracks on this album which holds through the test of time. It is dark and synthy and beautiful all at once. The lulls bring it down to a 5/10 for me, but a very respectable album all around
George Jones
1/5
This collection of tunes is like a flavor of tea that I just don't like. I can see why others might love it, but I just could not get into it. I am glad that it existed to bring the great country that is being made today, but nothin I would ever return to. 2/10
Stan Getz
4/5
Stan Getz. Charlie Byrd. Need I say more?
Getz/Gilberto was really nice with the female vocals, but this sets the same mood with a sax and an acoustic guitar. I had never heard this one before, but immediately put it in my rotation of Jazz albums. Whether its a cup of coffee, or a time for journaling at night, this is a fantastic album to elevate the mood. 8/10
Metallica
2/5
I can understand why Metal like this is so popular so I don't want to knock this album too much, but it just isn't for me. One is the standout track here which is probably my favorite Metallica song of all time. The rest of the tracks sound pretty similar to one another and I can't get fully into it. Nestles into a 4/10 spot for me
Love
3/5
Although I would love to rate this album higher, it would do a disservice to other albums that I have put into this range. The first half has almost nothign to write home about, but the last tune, Revelation is exquisitely long which as we well know, is one of my favorite song qualities. Psychadelic, weird, messy, and clocking in at 18 minutes and 59 seconds long, I loved this piece. 5/10
Dagmar Krause
1/5
This is not the kind of jazz that woke muisc heads (including myslef) will beg you to listen to and will tell you is "life-changing". That designation goes to the greats like Davis, Coltrane, Mingus, and others. This is the type that you imagine would play in a tourture chamber on repeat for someone that commited war crimes against humanity as punishment. 1/10
The Beach Boys
3/5
The most album of all time. I know many adore this album, some hail it as the greatest to ever be made. Unfortunately, I can't get there. It irks me and for some reason I pin it as the reason we have the modern pop music that sucks ass. 5 for its impact
Nirvana
5/5
I am not a connoseur of 90s Grunge. I sure as shit don't like it as much as some other people. That being said, this album is perfect for what it is. Not becuase of its production. Not becuase of its setlist. Not because of the story. As a matter of fact, its perfect because none of these things are perfect. It is a raw, messy, and acoustic live set of a band that is counterculture to the norm of music. Someone described this as the "funeral of rock". These words ring true I guess, but I feel a resurgance in the world of music today, 30 years later. This presentation stands the test of time and speaks to the point of music itself. I must rate it a 9/10 and don't see that changing in the future.
The White Stripes
1/5
Ill be the first to admit that I don't really get this music. Jack White's voice annoys me and besides some songs that are good (none of which are on this album), I don't understand the wild fandom for this kind of music. 2/10
Finley Quaye
2/5
Nothing to write home about here. Some mediocre reggae from a scottish artist. Makes you appriciate how great Bob Marley was. 4/10 for the vibes
Janis Joplin
5/5
A classic album that I had never really given much Creedence to. First time fully listening through a Janis Joplin album and I really enjoyed it. Not just her voice, but the backing band was extremely impressive and tasteful in how they complimented it. Every track was unique and shared a story. Its bluesy, its loose, its Texas, its San Francisco. Its Janis and I'm here for it. 9/10
Ghostface Killah
1/5
For some people, not for me. I don't enjoy yelling / screaming rap, much prefer Kanye / Kendrick poetry lyrical stuff. 2/10 for the concept
The Rolling Stones
2/5
Sympathy for the Devil and 9 other tracks that shouldn't have made the album. 4/10
Funkadelic
4/5
Really cool album that blends a lot of different genres into one cohesive work. I'll admit that I am not the most well trained ear for funk muisc, but this goes beyond just funk music. I really like the tasty groove and psych rock vibes in this one. The lead guitar has such an iconic tone and adds incredible depth to the jams included. 8/10. P.S.. Promentalshitbackwashpschosis Enema Squad (The Doo Doo Chasers) has high contention for the greatest song title ive seen in my life
Scott Walker
2/5
I think someone summed it up perfectly: "The guy is a little bitch and let's it be known with his singing". Seriously though, there are a bit of cool parts in this one and I love the bass line on the track I listed as a stand out. 4/10.
Steve Winwood
3/5
Something happened in the year 1980 for the late 60s early 70s vituoso musicians. They were left with a choice to either embrace the new sound of synths and electronic sounding music or not. Some did, some didn't. I enjoy those who went for it, but stuck to thier roots. This album encapsulates that phenomenon pretty well and reminds me of Jerry Garcia Band at Kean College 1980 with the synthy keyboards throughout. That being said, there are certainly some duds on this album too. It settles into a 6/10 spot for me becuase I love Winwood and anything he has touched.
Elliott Smith
3/5
It reminds me of Nick Drake if he made his musical journey during the 90s. I didn't love this majory happy go lucky style to a very sensitive person. While some songs were good, it felt forced and out of place. 5/10
Foo Fighters
2/5
A record like this illustrates why Kurt Cobain was so important to the band Nirvana. Grunge didn't just mean simple and bastardizing the majority of the work of mainstream rock over the 70s and 80s, but a feeling of angst and frustration by a group of people growing up in a time that needed a release. This album shows that not everyone can capture that and why Cobain was such a loss to the world. They would go on to make some better tunes, but this is a collection of moslty slop. Generic, but loud and better than some. 3/10
Supergrass
4/5
As people have mentioned, this is an album that grows on you. The first 3 songs don't do the rest of the project justice. Alright and Time are absolute bangers. Great blends of many different genres on this one. One of those albums where no matter who you are, you can find something that you at least kind of like on here. Would have never found it if it weren't for this list. That being said, many songs on here that I would have cut from the final product. 7/10
Megadeth
3/5
Thrash was never really my genre, but I did like this album enough to reccomend it to others maybe. I love the Onion article on the thing and think its just below the line of worthy of being on this list, but I do like it. 5/10
Sly & The Family Stone
3/5
Psychadelic funk done in a pretty cool way. I am a stickler for long songs, so Sex Machine was probably my favorite track. Solid all around but nothing too incredible. 5/10
Coldplay
4/5
I don't think that Coldplay deserves all of the hate that it gets. They threw some really unique Pop/Rock onto the table at a time when mainstream music was going through a flux. Sparks is one of my favorite songs of all time so I may be a bit biased, but I do like this album a lot and certainly think that it should be on this list. 7/10
David Bowie
3/5
I honestly still don't quite get the whole Bowie thing. I like some of his tunes, but never find myself desiring a spin of his albums. I did like this one more than some of the others I have heard and the backing track is pretty tight. 5/10
Eminem
2/5
God I remember listening to Stan on repeat towards the end of my Junior year of high school. What a sample and song. The rest of the album, hard for me to get into after expanding my musical taste to the classic rock roots I now know and love. The vulgar, violent, and agressive nature of this type of hip hop is hard for me to sympathize with, but I do like Eminem. 4/10
Deee-Lite
1/5
Unfortunately for this album, I have enjoyed the splendors of being born in 2004 and peaking with the peak of EDM music as it has come to be known. Compared to what I have heard and seen life, this album is just taxing on the soul. I can see why it must have been important for EDM as a genre, but I don't see myself ever returning to these tracks. 2/10
David Ackles
1/5
Sad fuck boy in 1972 "pours his heart" into a record, nobody cares...
The Last Shadow Puppets
1/5
One of those albums that you just wonder how it even made a list on this for anybody. Head scratcher
Red Hot Chili Peppers
4/5
Don't view this as a cringe album. It is southern california rock at some of its best. Yes some of the songs are extrememly overplayed and yes it might not be the most technical playing you've ever heard, but since when are those the markers of a good album? You are lying if you say that this album doesn't rock and if you can't see yourself riding a boat listening to these tunes on a lake somewhere in the United States, you have never done it before. 8/10
Ella Fitzgerald
2/5
I didn't give this one a real shot. Not because I hate Ella Fitzgerald, but because it seems so long for an album that was made in the 1950s and is on the boring side of Jazz Music as it would become. Goin with a fairly blind 3/10
Blur
1/5
Song 2 struck a nostaligic chord for a sports video game of my past. The rest of the album seems to lack like Parklife did. 2/10
Orbital
2/5
The makers of this album would love to see how far this genre of music has come, but that means it started from this place which is not as good... 4/10
Beatles
3/5
I think anyone that seriously likes the pre dugged Beatles more than the post is lying to themselves. Its like trying to compare Basketball before Michael Jordan reached the NBA and Basketball afterwards. I will forever stand by the fact that Marajuana and Acid did wonders for this band musically. Before Rubber Soul, its really hard to crawl into this music. So pop filled and mainstream that I can't get behind it. 5/10 because it is better than a lot of the shit albums that are on this list, but I can't in good faith reccomend this album to another as a top album ever made.
The Smiths
4/5
I surprisingly liked this listen quite a bit. The three tracks I highlighted were damn solid and this took me to a time and place that I will never understand, but at least I could glimpse at. I did like the soft vocals and simple, but layered production of this record. First Smiths project I have ever covered and fairly solid. 7/10
Frank Sinatra
3/5
As others have pointed out, the casual listening nature of this album makes it very enjoyable. There is something magical about Sinatra's voice and the jazz arrangements are on point. a great 6/10 album
Prefab Sprout
1/5
Another New Wave album that is entirely skippable. This kind of music has never spoken to me and without complex interpretations or cool iterations, it luls me to sleep. There is a song or two on here that is alright, but overall its just not my vibe. 1/10
Black Sabbath
5/5
It is the day after Ozzy's death. Rest in peace Prince of Darkness. This is my final Sabbath entry on this list. Yet another masterpiece of rock music out of this group. They dropped 6 straight amazing albums from the onset without a single bad tune. This work shows the depth of music that they had in their back pockets with songs like Laguana Sunrise highlighting thier softer side. A legendary work and one that will live in infamy for kick ass human beings for centuries to come. Monumental. 9/10
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
1/5
Music for biting into a metal fork vertically. 0/10
Beatles
4/5
This was an awesome album, but I felt like the whole thing could have been consolidated into a single LP. The filler makes a slight dent to this album's rating. They would fix this with Abbey Road. Other than that, a killer album that serves as a good baseline album to remind you of what good music can look at. The story behind the thing also provides context to why this album is as good as it is. Plus, Blackbird and Gently Weeps are enough to carry this album to infamy. 8/10
Beck
2/5
So close to being a reccomendation for me, but the tail half of the album just straight up lacks. Cool music, but kinda depressing and exagerated. I like the genre blends, but nothing I will return to. 4/10
Hookworms
4/5
Wasn't expecting this one to be as good as it was. I love the drone synthy sound and how they incoorporated it into a rock framework. 8/10
Ryan Adams
3/5
The Bob Dylan influences stick out like a sore thumb. This is not a bad thing as he puts a great twist on those influences and brings them to life in the year 2000. I like the upbeat slower songs on this album and added a handful to my campfire playlist. 6/10
Kings of Leon
3/5
Does it sound like a 30 year old fell in love with an underrage girl? yes. Is the music good? somehow also yes. 7/10
The Velvet Underground
2/5
This rating may make some people angry, but that is okay and they will get over it. I think this is quite possibly the most overrated album to ever be released. There are two good songs on the project and a lot of non directional fluff. I understand that albums this raw weren't really around at this time, but just because something is unique does not make it any better as a project. The first person to wipe standing up also thought that he was changing the world and yet he was entirely wrong about the correct way to clean his ass. 3/10
Neil Young & Crazy Horse
1/5
A collection of 7 skippable songs bookended by 2 decent ones
Paul Revere & The Raiders
1/5
Nothing particularly sticky about this album. It is fun, but probably should not have made this list
The Cars
3/5
Solid new wave album with some awesome tunes. Crazy that this was 1978 and not early 80s.
A Tribe Called Quest
4/5
God the beats on this album are just so eternal. Classic solid hip hop with flowing lyrics and top tier production. Absolutely deserves to be on this list. 8/10
Aretha Franklin
4/5
Really solid album from start to finish. I mean it is the queen of soul what more is there to say. 7/10
Bill Evans Trio
5/5
Phenominal live jazz album with some incredible bass playing throughout. Bill Evans sets a really good vibe on his records. Liked this one a lot and see myself not only playing it again in the future, but securing a copy on vinyl so I can hear how it is really meant to be played. 9/10
The Zombies
3/5
Time of the Season and 11 other related tracks
Little Simz
3/5
You can tell that this one is high quality from the onset. Lots of really good lyrics and fantastic beats throughout. 5/10
Manu Chao
4/5
A great example of never judge a book by its cover. I was expecting a world album in a different language that would be questioned as to why it is on this list, but instead I was pleasantly delighted by the chill reagge vibes and spanish influences. Deserves respect and placement on this list. 7/10
Miles Davis
5/5
There is not much left to be said about this album that has not already been put into the throws of cliché jazz head nomenclature, but I will try my best. This album is an absolute MONSTER from start to finish. Almost no where else in the history of recorded music is so much passion, energy, emotion, and life found between the grooves on an album. Miles Davis made a statement with this beast and each listen somehow gets better and better. It is an album that will stand the test of time for the rest of time and most likely will never be replicated. The timing, the delivery, the cast, and the methodology of this album are unparralelled. Is it talked about all the time, yes. Is it talked about enough? Certainly not in my generation. One of those albums that you have to have listened to in order to hold a substantial musical take. Without question or hesitation a perfect 10/10.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
4/5
In CCR fasion, a classic record that still kicks ass to this day. Everyone needs to give CCR their flowers for writing some of the most classic songs of all time. Solid toe tapping in your face swamp rock. 8/10
The Offspring
1/5
No grippyness to this album. 1/10
The Psychedelic Furs
1/5
Not all New Wave is good
4/5
This album got way too much hate in these reviews for what it provides. Clearly no one here as bombed down a groomer on a bird blue day with this under the flaps of their boarding helmet. A concept album and a masterpiece. 8/10
The Smiths
3/5
Not the best Smiths album, but carried a cool vibe. 6/10
Derek & The Dominos
5/5
I mean sometimes it just doesn't get better than this. Powerhousing blues that is right in your face on end. Duane Allman and Eric Clapton are unarguably two of the greatest to ever pick up the electric guitar and you need look no further than this album to confirm that fact. Every single song is incredible and the story behind this rock giant is the cherry on top. This thing is and always will be one of the greatest albums to ever be put to tape. 10/10 without a doubt in my mind

Another day, another punk album that doesn't fit any vibe ever
The Afghan Whigs
1/5
Weird ass album with egotistical lyrics
Beatles
5/5
What a streak I am on! The third 10/10 perfect album in 11 days after a drought of 140… This one is placed near the top of this list and for good reasons. You would be hard pressed to find a more audacious, experimental, and unusual album from a band at the absolute top of the world. This would be the equivalent of Taylor Swift dropping a disco indie jam band album in 2026. The Beatles (influenced heavily by certain psychadelics) didn't care. They went for it and what we are left with is one of the greatest albums to ever be put to tape. You have to imagine how absurd it was for a band to do something like this when their livelihood depended upon people liking the music. The tracks on here are all just different enough to drive curiosity, but still stay cohesive as a whole albums project. Tomorrow Never Knows sends it over the top as a bonafide 10/10 in my book.
Kraftwerk
3/5
I like this project. Early electronica was super cool and certainly revolutionary for the time. I will have to deep dive more of these albums. 6/10
Richard Thompson
2/5
I do appriciate the instumentation here and each backing track is quite wonderful. Only issue is that the vocals leave so much to be desired. Proof that lyrics and vocal ability really do matter
N.E.R.D
1/5
An example of an album that immediately gets under your skin and doesn't come out. 2
The Byrds
1/5
This is what people who rated Abbey Road a 1 heard when they put on their headphones. Not their fault. 1
Adele
3/5
Who doesn't like Adele? 5/10
Amy Winehouse
3/5
Some great tracks, some not so great tracks. 6/10
The White Stripes
3/5
Some great tracks, others didn't hit. 5/10
Radiohead
5/5
I am trying to cherish this moment because I don't think I will get another run of such good albums for the rest of my journey on this list. This album is yet again absolutely perfect. I think it is by far and away the best Radiohead effort do to its relaxed and upbeat nature. I love pretty much every single thing about this record from production to guitar tones to songwritting to the album cover. It is absolutely dynamite and Radiohead shows yet again just how important they are in the history of music and just their shear genius when it comes to making songs and records. This thing is phenomenal and absolutely one of my favorite albums of all time - certainlly released passed the year 2000. 10/10
Tracy Chapman
3/5
I had super high hopes coming in on this record and I don't want to say that I was dissapointed, but I certainly was not blown away. Don't get me wrong Chapman is awesome and there are some great tunes on here, but as a whole it wasn't my favorite album ever. 6/10
Paul McCartney and Wings
4/5
I really quite enjoyed this effort from McCartney and the Wings. There are some awesome tracks on here. Let Me Roll It was one that I had never heard before and that completely blew me away. 8/10
Wu-Tang Clan
4/5
I like the 90s rap selections that this list has. 7/10
Miriam Makeba
2/5
An example of not my type of music, but I am sure others love it
The Magnetic Fields
2/5
I know everyone has ragged on this one already so I will keep it brief. Didn't need to be so long man. 3/10
Franz Ferdinand
3/5
CHEL 22
Nirvana
5/5
The Dark Side of The Grunge. 9/10
Pearl Jam
5/5
If you don't like this album, I don't like you. 9/10
Belle & Sebastian
4/5
Much more solid than I was expecting. I love the experimental use of electronics here and the overall song quality. 7/10
Guided By Voices
1/5
This shit blows
Kraftwerk
4/5
Really loved the soundstage and early electronica on this one. Something just hits
Snoop Dogg
2/5
D oh double g. 3/10
Elvis Costello & The Attractions

Blows chunks. 0/10
Raekwon
1/5
Gets extrememly close to being amazing, but the production is just lacking. I am sure this is considered a great album, but doesn’t do it for me. 1/10
Cyndi Lauper
1/5
Time After Time
Primal Scream
2/5
Not nearly as good as the other album I heard from Primal Scream - Screamadelia. 3/10
Lauryn Hill
4/5
Good effort out of Ms. Lauryn Hill here. Some songs on here are wonderful, some miss. Overall I like the vibe and what it did for chill hip hop / RnB. 7/10
Miles Davis
5/5
This album might fall second only to DSOTM for my most listened to record ever produced. It could be the most versatile vibe on a piece of music ever conceived. That being said, it also has depth and richness when listened to intensely. Each player in the game has their own voice and takes it with pride. Yes they are unbelievable musicians and also completely spontaneous in the phrasing of the music they are putting out there.
The quintessential go to if someone tells you that they "don't like jazz". Well, no, you twat, you just haven't given it your attention quite yet. Shut up, sit down, drink this, smoke this, and listen up. Tell me again at the end that you "don't like jazz" and if the answer is still the same, you can leave and never come back. 10/10
Portishead
2/5
I didn't understand this one much. Odd mix of sounds and super dark. 3/10
Brian Eno
2/5
Early Eno shows a bunch of flares to the atmospheric powerhouse that he would become one day. I didn't love the mix of rock and those tracks though. Good listen, but not a must for this list. 4/10
Stevie Wonder
4/5
Amazing album here from a GOAT. Innervisions is more of a spiritual funk/soul album compared to SITKOL which I can appriciate. This one takes a more bold leap for when it was released and I think he executed it very well. Solid 8/10.
The Doors
4/5
Loved this album. Very bluesy rock inspired for the Doors, and they crush it. 8/10
R.E.M.
2/5
Midling and no greater
Doves
2/5
It is not even that bad, I just can't get into it. Not sure what the vibe is. Kinda like Oasis, but more subtle and instrumental. 4/10
Robbie Williams
2/5
Not the worst album ever, but kind drags at times. I just don't love Britpop. 4/10
Syd Barrett
1/5
I love Pink Floyd more than the next chap, but good god this album sucks. 2/10
Curtis Mayfield
4/5
Good funky grooves. 7/10
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
5/5
Wonderful little mix of folk and classic rock. The guitaristry on this album is subtle, but so freaking good. Each tune seems to carry its own place and I can only imagine what this one was like for a teenager spinning the plasitc when it came out in 1970. 9/10
Ramones
2/5
Blitzkreig Bob and some other mildly good tunes
The Killers
1/5
The sound of that protentious douchbag in your school walking down the hallway with a gargantuan ego thinking he is the coolest one when in fact his life is peaking and college won't be good for him and he will end up as a salesman or a construction worker listening to Mr. Brightside on the weekends wishing he did his life differently
Roxy Music
1/5
Really not my vibe. At all. 0/10
Norah Jones
4/5
Really like this album and see a ton of use cases for some of the tracks. The laid back jazzy type backing tracks and buttery vocals add a ton. 7/10
Jurassic 5
3/5
Solid 5. Not the greatest hip hop album, but has some good beats behind the lyrics.
Everything But The Girl
3/5
I thought this was a really fun little album. Love the techno beats in the background and the lead singer has a nice voice. 6/10
Spiritualized
3/5
I thought this was just good enough to make the list. Some solid tracks, but also some musical styles that I wish weren't included on this album. Instrumentals > Vocal tracks. 6/10
X-Ray Spex
1/5
At least it has some energy. 2/10
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
3/5
Good album that should be on the list, but not the greatest thing Petty would ever touch. Breakdown and American Girl are clear standouts
1/5
Lots of noise, not much music. 1/10
Prince
2/5
I mean it is Prince, but god I don't really like Prince outside of Purple Rain…
Taylor Swift
1/5
You know I have to give it props. This album fully resembles the feeling of sitting in a car with sweatpants on when you get an itch on the cheek of your butt, but you have to drive straight so you are practically leaning out the window trying to scratch the itch on your right buttox, but no matter how hard you try it won't go away so you end up sitting back down in the seat and try to mind-over-matter the most annoying possible feeling in the entire world. There are potentially 10,001 albums that are better than this one, not just 1001. 0/10
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
What a delight to have Taylor Swift's evermore on a Wednesday and Hendrix's Electric Ladyland save my energy on Thursday. Needed this. Absulte electricity from needle drop to needle pluck. All 4 sides have their own character. I can only imagine what it was like for someone to listen to this when it was released because it had to have been one of the most unique things out there. Hendrix is a force of nature and tracks like Voodoo Chile and 1983 really show his prowess. The shorter rock tracks really hold up too. Beautiful mix of so many different genres and I feel does a great job of capturing Hendrix at this time. Then he would go on to Band of Gypsys live which if you have not heard, get on it. This album and its tracks will be played over and over for all of history , 10/10
David Bowie
1/5
Another affirmation that I simply do not like David Bowie. 1/10
Ray Charles
3/5
Great collection of tracks here. 5/10
Minutemen
1/5
43 songs too long. 1/10
Liz Phair
2/5
I liked this album, but I can't say that any track really stood out to me. Rocky pop sounds better than the modern stuff. 4/10
Goldfrapp
3/5
Bond. James Bond.
Leonard Cohen
3/5
This is a haunting piece of work. Super deep lyrics here and the tone is well set. Not the best of Cohen's works, but solid. 5/10
Patti Smith
1/5
The sound of bitching put to tape
Alice Cooper
2/5
An Alice Cooper Album. 3/10
The Chemical Brothers
4/5
Sounds like the feeling you had walking the hallways of middle school after first cup of coffee you had as a 7th grader. 7/10
Bert Jansch
3/5
Liked it. 6/10
The Verve
2/5
Really pushing the middle of the pack here. Could you get more album than this album? 4/10
Fela Kuti
5/5
This is why we continue on this journey. The exact type of album that you wanted to listen to when you first started tracking this website, admit it. I love the combination of blues drumming and jazz on this album. Really cool extended jams and the African sound is so distinct and awesome. I bet this would sound really good while you are paroozing a record store in a city you have never been to. 9/10
Jimi Hendrix
5/5
The greatest musical introduction heard around the world. Seriously, if this isn't the greatest debut album, I don't know what is. Jimi was a force of nature and did things with the guitar that had never and will never be done again. This album is proof of the power of love and psychadelics. So many great tunes to point out, but for a second you have to realize that the year this came out was 1967... Could it be anymore before its time? I mean Cream was doing something a bit similar, but certainly not on this level. Hendrix grabs you with the intro to Purple Haze and doens't hold up until the needle comes off the record at the end of Are You Experienced? The answer is yes Jimi. I and everyone else was not beforehand, but now we are experienced and its your fault. No turning back. 10/10
Basement Jaxx
2/5
Interesting isn't always good. 3/10
Joni Mitchell
4/5
I liked this album a bunch. Joni is a really interesting woman and her songwritting is just beautiful. The instruments in the back are killer on this. Reminds me of Astral Weeks.
Creedence Clearwater Revival
5/5
Classic album from a classic band. By this point, CCR had really gotten into the groove of the band and sound that they wanted to make. This album includes some absolute heaters and doesn't allow you to keep your feet still as you listen through. Toe tapping goodness from the start. CCR is just so solid. If you took this as an desert island album, no one could be upset with you. Some of the most bipartisan rockin music put to tape. 10/10
Laibach
1/5
Never been more disinterested in an album from the very start
Liked the psychadelic blues jammyness of this one. Very solid through and through. 7/10
