Reviews (page 8 of 8)

Don't like the singing, don't like the uninspired bass and drum, don't like the same-sounding melodies. There is really nothing about this album that I like I guess.

Christ not more C&W, please make it stop.

Straightforward country album - even as background music simply too annoying to give anything more than 1 star.

37 minutes too long. I don’t know what this cover is supposed to be. Whatever it is I hate it. Too classy for me.

do not like this type of country at all

Hillbilly bullshit

Based on this album, it seems like country music has been getting worse with time instead of better. The sound is very generic, and the storytelling is nonexistent. Most of the songs are some variation of "I love my woman/my woman cheated or left me", then there is one happy song about leaving his woman and her being sad for a change, one song about how the countryside is better than the city, and one obligatory song about God. Come on.

Someone could give me a revolver with three bullets and I could shoot all three country fans in existence: I just hated this album. Like don't get me wrong as country goes it wasn't awful but it just drove me made and I didn't enjoy it one bit. It ain't anything like a country album which may be enjoyable due to singing along to one song but this just sounded like the deep south and I don't want to experience that again.

Its shit, really struggled with this

Look, I love some Johnny Cash albums. I can have fun listening to Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. But this album came across to me as a boring, vanilla, and uninspired set of songs. Maybe it means something to someone. Perhaps people fell in love while some of these songs were playing in the background. Maybe a couple of artists listened to it and decided to form a band. I do not know. What I know is that I don’t like it.

YeeeeeeHawwwwww. Not really. shows the US influence on this list that this is even being considered what awful twee but also boring music.

fuck off.

If I ever lose my hearing, I will see the silver lining in never hearing a Dwight Yoakam song again

Musica de cowboy corno

Þessi týpa af köntríi fer alveg óendanlega í taugarnar á mér. Hjálpar ekki til þegar textar fjalla um að myrða konuna sem vildi þig ekki.

🥱 had some cool Latin music inspired moments but that’s all I can really say I liked abt it

Country. Not my bag.

This isn't even one of the 1001 best country albums.

boring...

Townes Van Zandt, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, Emmylou Harris, Willie Nelson, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, Ray Price, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams... They're great country artists, aren't they?

Country

hating country music isn’t a very original sentiment but come on man

As soon as the album cover loaded, my first though was "Surely I have to draw the line somewhere." To my credit, I made it over a minute into the first song.

My friend was obsessed with Dwight when we were children, it isn't this album, but this transported me right back to that moment. I am not a big fan of country, so sorry Mr. Yoakam, this isn't my cup of tea. Also, those lyrics about killing your girl....um, big no.

This is a no from me Dawg (Dwight)

Getting very bored of these overproduced 80s country albums which sold millions of copies to a very select and limited audience of godbothering inbreds and nobody else. Yeehaw second amendment let's shoot up a school crap for idiots.

This really is awful. I know this guy is considered by many a National Treasure but these are insipid 80s marshmallow songs. It's almost laughable how cliched these are. I would be embarrassed found listening to this- I told my kids it was for the 1001 albums.........

Twangy tripe. Sure the musicianship is strong, but I just can’t take that… twangy vocal. And why not add a few yodel breaks just to get it deep under the skin. Dear lord this was hard to get through.

Not my thing. Thought "I Hear You Knockin'" was the best of it.

Literally name checks a truck in the first verse. Absolutely not. This is trash, complete and total trash.

Where country music went to die.

stay lonely, pal

Tha fuck is this?!? Nothing triggers me like drawl. Please just STFU and let me hear the band. OK, for sure, this music makes me wretch. To each his own, but this? Fuck no. So disappointed, I honestly did not spend too much time here. Just skipping along before I broke down. Then a necessary palate cleanser (just about anything). This generator is one devious bitch.

I don't like country. I'm sure it's a fine example of the genre, but that genre is awful.

this is the honkiest, tonkiest album I've ever heard and it ain't for me.

Country music. Not my style.

This was a difficult listen. The songs were slow and uninteresting, and I found it hard to get through the entire album. I didn't have any favorite tracks, as I didn't enjoy any of the songs on the album. Overall, I would give the album 1 out of 5 stars. It's not one that I would recommend to anyone, and it's an example of why some people dislike country music. I won't be listening to it again.

Screw you list. I win! I finally won! It took us 500 albums but for once you're a loser. This is no Dolly. This is no Willie Nelson. This is none of the 60s country that's actually a bit decent. Doesn't even have any creative spins like the k.d. lang or Lucinda Williams records had. Nope. This is 40 minutes of pure honky tonk horseshit. Unoriginal and boring, neither the singer nor the band players sound they like a give a shit, and the lyrics are lame as could be. Could it get worse? Yes, at the very least this is true to form. Half the pop country you see on the charts since the 90s is much much worse. But that doesn't stop me from calling this irredeemable and of no value at all. I don't care if you throw an accordion in there. The two songs I was able to bear the most: What I Don't Know, Home of the Blues (probably cause my patience got sick after the 4th song)

Financial problems, infidelity, revenge, alcoholism, God, guns, southern pride, going to jail, and feeling down and out. Ahh, the seemingly eternal themes of country music. To me, this was awful.

This country Music is killing me

Guy does a nice version of Elvis's Suspicious Minds. Sorry it wasn't on this album because I would have had a song I liked. To me, sounds like he's whining throughout and songs seemed to run together. No favorite song. Would not recommend. A 1 rating for me

couldnt listen.too country.

I guess country was inevitable

Sweet Jesus a shocker

Oh dear LOOOOORD God might not want me holding onto him after I've sat and dragged myself through this painful album. In what fresh HELL is this a top 1001 album to listen to before you die?? This is the album for after you die when you arrive in hell...

Well it is country and some of the songs have a touch of Mariachi music but there is no singing in Spanish. I would prefer it to be all Mariachi music. I suffered through it. There is no need to listen to it again or really in the first place.

This project has opened my eyes to the wide variety of country music that there is out there for me to hate.

Ah, another opportunity for me to figure out why I hate most country music so much. I think it's the singing, the whiny voice. All I can think is 'fucking GET OVER IT'. Musically this wasn't that bad, but good god just sing normally!

Too American

Aika rajuu musaa… Country ass music! 1/5

Terrible. Whiney crybaby.

Twangy country. Nope F

I don’t do country. I did not listen.

Not listening to this for the sake of my mental health.

lame af 2/10, I liked the accordion bits but the whole thing was just so annoying

Well, that's just really crappy, isn't it? Egotistical, nihilistic, misogynist, sad-sack, crooner bullshit. This doesn't need to exist let alone be on anyone's "best-of" list.

Nope nope nope. Listened to this hillbilly twit earlier this year then blocked Spotify from playing him. Just nope.

First country album on my list and the first 1 star review, just not the music for me.

I hate country, I tried but couldn't make it through the first song

Didn't like the lyrics, or the genre, or the same old same old country sob stories drawled out ad infinitum. Production seemed fine but that doesn't redeem it. Spent most of the time rolling my eyes and checking whether it was about to finish

I would have accepted Guitars Cadillacs on account of Terminator 2, but this one?

Oh god no. Not country.

Its a country album, and I don't like country.

This is the exact sort of country nonsense I can’t stand

Simply grating. Any subtlety in here passed me by.

Country meh

Exit!

Yikes......

Not great Country

First album I couldn't make it al the way through

If this album in any way contributed to Yoakam’s career in a manner that led to him crossing paths with Billy Bob Thornton so he could eventually be cast in SLING BLADE… then it was well worth the experience of disinterest I had listening to it. The mariachi Bakersfield tune was okay, I guess? Yoakam if you got ‘em!

Hard Pass. Not even remotely interested in this album/style/artist/etc...

1.5 - mostly bland and boring. not my thing. 0.5 for I Sang Dixie which is ok

Next album please I’ll not lie, I didn’t listen to all of this but I’m giving it one star anyway just so poor Muddy isn’t bottom of the pile

I really don't like that twangy voiced country stuff. For me to like nything country it has to be pretty spectacular. I can't get through this, it's hurting my soul.

Tämä ulvonta ei kolahtanut

Dwight Yoakam was probably the first artist I ever hated. I listened to a lot of country radio when "Pocket of a Clown" came out, and I couldn't change the station fast enough whenever I heard his voice. This album did nothing to sway me. Best track: Send Me the Pillow.

1988. Key Songs: I Got You, I Sang Dixie

This guy literally jumped
