Reviews (page 15 of 15)

MJ is amazing. This is very produced and disco-y

Very polished, bouncy album.

Good one

Bailables y buena balada pero no lo tipo

Opening song is magnificent.

muito champ, xibo, qunostopo, donstotiuiugeteno.

99% of the songs on this album are total bops and make me wanna dance anytime I hear them. Amazing bass playing on both bass guitar and bass synth. I love everything about this record and only wish I was around when it initially came out to experience it. Amazing.

It certainly makes sense how this album accelerated Michael Jackson to the stars as a solo artist. Its complex sound and catchy rhythms and baselines pair excellently with the incredible range of vocals from Jackson. I frequently listen to a lot of these songs from this album.

Can you seperate the art from the artist? Was he doing bad stuff at this point?

Don't Stop Til You Get Enough is cracking start. Girlfriend was the first in 4 albums that I had to skip and I had had enough by the end.

Great album…. Too bad he’s not around

Soul, funky y disco. Música negra para un álbum luminoso e iniciático.

Cracking disco influenced pop.

Was decent not his best work

3.5/5 nice sounds, I will have to relisten to judge it better

This is it. This is the one. Post-disco, the beginning (and best) of the legendary team of Michael and Quincy. Every song is great. Every hook is memorable and natural. MJ slides between endearing, exciting, and fun like no other. While he is certainly indebted to the likes of James Brown and Diana Ross, there's no debate about his being a through-and-through platinum performer. Even viewing this record with his later works in frame, Off the Wall has that mojo that never quite returned -- not that it needed to. Something that is ubiquitous tends to lose its flair, and in this case, the untouchability of OTW just adds to its legendary status. Don't stop til you get enough, Michael I'll never get enough so I'm not stopping.

Primeira musica eh a musica do Globo Reporter!

L'énergie dont j'avais besoin

So much energy, his voice is unreal and brings with it incredible passion, and literally every song on the album maintains a high level of energy and positive emotion. Not just the voice but the production is near flawless.

Hard not to enjoy at least the opening track. Quintessential music that cemented THE Michael Jackson that's most widely known, and for good reason. First side is like a non-stop dance party with MJ as the MC keeping things alive. The energy is infectious! The second side mellows out, embracing a more chilled out vibe without sacrificing too much of the fun. (Quincy Jones is on production and is a master of the craft). She's Out of My Life feels more like an obligatory ballad than an earnest entry; Gotta make the runtime quota somehow I guess. It's clear that side B is the weaker of the two, but it's definitely still solid music at the end of the day.

Wünderbar 5*

Strong start, then from Girlfriend onwards its naff until the final song. 2

Not great for me. I like the singles. 3 songs. The rest are okay.

Brilliant ! Brought back memories of the time.I want to give it 5* but then I know it’ll go straight to the top so it’s a high ****

Michael near his peak .. definitely a recommended listen. Fun dance tunes and sentimental ballads. Not quite a 5 for me but that might be personal genre preference.

Burned out toward the end but DAMN the first few songs are absolute hottrax... could use more MJ albums in this list, anyone who has ears can enjoy this

“Can’t stop till I get enough... of Michael Jackson Too familiar with his later work which was much better

Funk basics

El único disco de Michael Jackson que tuvo mi padre, a él nunca le convenció para seguir explorando su discografía. A mi tampoco. Esta bien pero es muy irregular.

Just bangers

It's Michael Jackson. All bangers with enough nostalgia to combat the occasional cheesy lyrics

Awesome album. Thoroughly enjoyable songs and from when before things all went wrong.

Outside of the hits is there anything more here from every 9 years old boy's favorite sleep over buddy? Not really. The non singles are bang average. On Girlfriend his hearts not in it for some reason... 2/5 just for the two hits. Prefer his rockier later stuff because as we all know disco sucks.

Hopefully i'll get thriller

I expected more but it was OK. Good for dancing.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting for Michael Jackson. Still slow towards the middle, and I wouldn't want to hear most of these songs very often. A low 4

Pues gran ritmo, canciones que hasta la fecha suenan de vez en cuando en dodne menos las esperas. A parte del famoso single don't stop till you get enough, me gustaron off the wall y sobre todo la ondita r&b de it's the falling in love.

Don't get the fuss

Disco-y! Interesting to see some early thriller influences too

Le faltó hee hee

Hell yeah

Very nice album... soul/disco balance

Highlights - Don't Stop..., Rock With You, Off The Wall, Burn This Disco Out I've always appreciated the sonic clarity of Michael Jackson's work, his ability to craft truly toe-tapping melodies, his incredible vocal range...His foray into his solo act truly got off the ground when he partnered with Quincy Jones for Off The Wall. Don't Stop.. and Rock With You require no explanation, these are assured classics. It's worth noting that this album was made for record playback in mind, as such, the eponymous Off The Wall kicks off the B-side with unsettling laughter and transitions into a solid banger with a feel-good chorus. Burning This Disco Out closes out the second side with a funk-filled send off that'll have you dancing and flipping back to Track 1 over and over.

Superior disco, really. Some tracks do transcend the genre, quite a few don't. Great if you like disco, otherwise it's merely okay. Starts brilliantly, ends on a high, it's the bit inbetween that's the issue.

What do Jared Fogle and this album have in common? Let me tell you... "What comes first? Don't stop till you get enough". Of course I'm referring to Jared's love for delicious subway sandwiches. Nah but seriously, this was a really great album and I did enjoy it since I've never really listened to it before. I've always been a thriller guy, and by saying that, I can't say that it's better than thriller. Still good though and I'll definitely listen to it more now but, alas, I cannot betray my beloved thriller. So with every listen of off the wall, I'll listen to thriller twice.

This album starts out with a BANGER. Having listened to this song since hearing it in Rush Hour 2 (did Chris Tucker sing it better?) I feel like I still haven’t gotten enough. But also, ever since everything came out about Michael and his proclivities, I haven’t listened to him as much so maybe I’ve had enough. It is very hard to discuss Michael without bringing up not just the many many allegations but also the way he grew up and was treated by his father. While I don’t like making excuses for others, I do like understanding why people are who they are and when looking at his life it is easy to see why he did the things he did. I have never actually listened to a Jackson album all the way through so I am excited to see where this takes me. Rock with You has a nice beat to it but I wonder who he is referring to when he talks about all night. I’m not a historian so I do not know the timeframe between this album and his ranch. This does feel like the kind of song I would have danced to at the club if I was alive back then. I am DIGGING Workin’ Day and Night, the beats that were chosen for this album are so good and his “catching of breath” or “yipping” I’m not sure what you would call it, is on point here. He says someone has him working day and night, maybe that is a reflection of the countless hours his father forced him to practice and rehearse. I’m sure after being around his dad he would be excited to get out and dance to this beat as well. Get On the Floor starts out as a great disco type song, very funky. Off the Wall speaks to me right off the bat because I was the guy who was on the wall not wanting to dance at school functions which is funny because I love to dance. Maybe if I had heard this song back then I would have been inspired to get off the wall. He says to leave the 9-5 on the shelf and just enjoy yourself which is a great message for someone like me (even though I work 8-4). This is one of my new favs of the album. Girlfriend is a weak song to me, certainly sounds nice, but for some reason I can’t picture him having girlfriend. She’s Out of My Life is the same story as before, but I won’t deny that he has pipes and sounds great on this track. It’s interesting that his album is a lot of fun dance tunes but then there are a few slow dances in there as well and ends with Burn This Disco Out for that last dance of the night. Looking at the album artwork, it’s easy to see someone who is ready to get off the wall and dance but knowing what we all know and where he ended up, it is also incredibly sad. This album was his first solo so I wonder if he struggled breaking free from his fathers grasp and struggled making this just for fear of what his father thought or how he would be treated.

Masterpiece.

Solid Michael Blackson produced by Quincy Jones. Don’t Stop ‘Till You Get Enough will always be a song to grove to. Don’t sleep on the song Get On The Floor, the bass line is amazing. I even find myself enjoying the cheesier songs lime Girlfriend.

The first half of this album is very good but the last 4-5 songs weren't doing much for me. He's just so damn talented. Clearly not his best album but still a great listen.

Ok but not his best album. Some of this is good but also just too high pitched to understand.

Excellent early Michael before he really hit his stride. 9/10.

The disco sound is definitely dated, but there are some really good songs on this album. I can't believe this was his fifth solo album. I thought it was his first.

Un discazo pop que yo supongo que orientó más sonidos en años posteriores. Tiene todavía su influencia disco y medio funk. Además viene el súper hit "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough". Creo que lo disfruté, aunque tiene canciones dispares, por ejemplo, "She's Out Of My Life" en realidad me aburrió mucho. "Off the Wall" y "Burn This Disco Out" son otras dos que destaco de acá. No sabía que lo había producido Quincy Jones! 8/10

This is one of my favorite albums of ALL TIME. I'd rank it higher than Thriller. But I had to give them both 5s.

Nice casual album to play in the background

1979, disco, funk, Pop, rnb, stabil, nichts zu krasses dabei

Pretty good, not his best though

Bona fide classic, and the first album we've reviewed that I have on vinyl! [insert joke here about me saying "I have that on vinyl"] Technically not a debut album, but in a way it kind of is. He started in the Jackson 5 and released a few solo albums in the early '70s, which mostly sounded like the Jackson 1. On "Forever, Michael" in 1975, his voice suddenly dropped to the range we recognize as Michael Jackson, but that album still sounds like a Jackson 1 project. With help from Quincy Jones, MJ pivoted to funky, disco pop, setting the stage for his growth into the most dominant force in pop music. The album's terrific--it opens with probably my favorite song he's ever made (first heard via Chris Tucker in Rush Hour 2 - "Ch'mon, Lee!"), and it's great all the way through. Also: there's a deluxe release with a couple demos, and the original demo for "Workin' Day and Night" is awesome. I like it better than the album version and think it's one of MJ's best tracks period. Check it out! Favorite tracks: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, Workin' Day and Night, Rock With You. Album art: Iconic. Totally looks like a debut. Painfully '70s, in a good way. Michael doesn't look comfortable at all, like he's worried people with think he's a poser. At that time I guess he was a poser, going from Motown soul to groovy disco overnight, but it's like a guy at party who gets up "off the wall" to storm the dance floor and show everyone up. This is my favorite cover of all MJ albums. 5/5

I do not voluntarily listen to MJ's music. I change the radio station in the car if he comes on, and I'm not gonna listen to this asshole here either.

Such a good dance album, but on the tunes where the tempo slows so goes my interest. Also, how the hell did he come up with the notion to cram the words “keep on with the force don’t stop” into like two notes? Also also, that song’s about Star Wars.

A few bangers on here.

pedophile

Good album. Couple borin ones.

The King Don't stop til you get enough, Rock with you, It's the falling in love, Burn this disco out

Awesome. It does sound like all of 80s smooth jazz ripped this sound off, though.

Very strong start with "Don't Stop." Some work themes on this album, very RCE. Ended strong too, I liked that disco song. Overall a fun album, little to complain about.

How many times have I listened to this album in my life? Too many to count. I love this album, and I am convinced that this is the greatest disco/funk album ever made. How can something sound so 70's but at the same time be so timeless? Everyone who listens to this, no matter who, when or where will be grooving to this album, it's energy is infectious. The synths, the bass, the vocal delivery of MJ and lyrical composition is top notch. The songs are all the perfect length that don't overstay their welcome, which is something that disco and funk usually have a problem with. Every song on this album is iconic, along with the album art. This album feels like its at the crossroads between MJ's child career and future adult career that we all know and love, blending the best of each. This is my personal favorite Michael Jackson album, it may not have the more iconic hits that people think of when they think of MJ, but it makes me happy, its such a pure joy to listen to. Favorite track: Rock With You Least Favorite Track: She's Out of My Life

Young king of pop, fun album, gets you in a good mood

legendary groovin singles

god dam, don't stop til you get enough is a 10/10 song Micheal wants you to just enjoy music and feeling free, and expresses it amazingly with an endless well of disco grooves slows down in the second half, but bangers all around

Just not into disco Michael Jackson. Not that it's bad. Just not something I will throw on for fun.

the best from him

Another solid album from the king of pop.

Obviously heard this a million times, but damn, it is a good'n through and through.

he heee¡

Classic Michael Jackson

I e joyed this album and would play it again!

Absolute fire album. The first track is by one of the best intro to an album tracks of all time. Can't believe this guy released bangers pre-thriller but goddamn is this heat! But let's be real, it is a forgotten album amongst the ranks of MJ albums, can't even imagine amongst all pop albums. Solid 3/5.

have not listened to a full Michael Jackson album before. some good songs for a dancin playlist on here.

Michael Jackson’s best album, the funk, the groove, is truly incredible. Set the tone for music going forward.

Absolutely stellar, what a boppin album. Besides Girlfriend, you got ya head bumping along with every track, and it's all memorable as hell. What more to say? This is THE way to breakout into stardom (as a solo act, I guess).

I don’t really care about MJ

Was okay, not my type of music usually

This morning I'm listening to 'Off the Wall' by Michael Jackson. I was looking on the Internet to see where things are at with Michael being a pedophile. Do we give him a free pass? It's become difficult to continually have to separate the art from the artist. And what sort of responsibility does MJ's asshole Dad Joe have to do with how his son turned out? So this landmark album that combines all the greatest the world of music (pop, rock, disco, etc) has to offer in 1979. It's difficult to know what to do here. I guess try and listen to it - solely focusing on the music and production. The music is fun and bubbly. The ballady songs towards the end of the album has dragged it down for me quite a bit. As long as the music kept moving, I didn't have as much time to think about how creepy MJ was in real life. The last couple of songs are better and have tied up the album nicely. Takes me back to when I was a kid, and this talented artists I didn't know much about - moonwalked on the Grammys. It was literally the biggest thing to happen at the time. I miss those times and that artist. Before it all got fucked up.

Love love love this album

First half was too much pop and tracks had similar beat and sound, I preferred the variety in the second half

Super album van legendarische artiest

When I was a kid Michael Jackson was ubiquitous. Just an absolute cultural juggernaut. I had a cassette tape of "thriller" and remember checking out books from the library about michael jackson and the jackson 5. I definitely can't separate his music from nostalgic childhood feelings. This album is where he truly established himself as an independent solo artist and where he found the perfect producer in Quincy Jones. I feel like this album and Thriller set a new template for pop music that is still being used to this day. Man this album starts so strong! The production is so clean and balanced. So busy and layered but not cluttered or overwhelming. Flows so smoothly. Got some of the best session musicians of the era on this album which I am acquainted with to an odd degree because of their association with yacht rock, (which this album has some crossover with). I can definitely appreciate some immaculate pop production, particularly from this era. Side 1 is a fucking ripper but I feel like the album loses a bit of steam on side 2 around the wings cover "girlfriend" and the ballad "She's out if my life" but I do like the Stevie Wonder penned "I can't help it" very much and "it's the falling in love" is yacht rock gem. More of a fan of "thriller" but this is still a very impressive album with some incredible songs.

Test for edit later.

Quite alright. It's MJ so it's hard for it to be bad. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough is the obvious hit from this album.

The singles are incredible but the rest isn't good enough to overcome my opinion of this trash person.

Some solid bangers we all know High Energy fun album.

Funky funk funk funk. This is a disco masterpiece, obviously. It’s got R&B, Disco, Pop, a whole bunch of stuff. The bass playing and production is what really stood out to me. I don’t think I can really state the impact that this album made on popular music going forward. Favorite song: Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough Least favorite song: Girlfriend

Pretty damn good

Just a great album front to back. Always have loved the song “Off The Wall”

Deserves a 3.5; Very easy listening with some standout songs such as the opener, or 'Get on the Floor'.

Michael Jackson Goodness. Bop after Bop

Ehh not a hug MJ fan

Video show

The funk bangers are fantastic, but it's weighed down with too much pop schmaltz. 1 star deduction just for "She's Out Of My Life" - absolute fucking garbage.

some iconic MJ hits, good classic pop

Good although I prefer more of the upbeat funky stuff than the ballads

Classic, objectively good album, but wasn't in a great mood for it that day

Phenomenal mix of funk, soul, disco and pop from the greatest performer of all time.

Clearly excellent, though not sure how often I would listen to it.

Fuck dude, how do you rank an album like this? It's so hard to isolate this album from everything that came out afterwards about Michael Jackson. There's no question that Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson were an absolute force when recording together. The first song is incredible; the album starts out at a sprint. The second song is a classic as well. From there it has a very consistent feel without being repetitive. A classic party album. It feels weird giving a known pedophile 5 stars, but here we are 5/5

good album start tbh

Danceable as fuck, never sat still during the entire listen. Feet off the ground and ears a lovin' this is amazing.

God med enkelte missere

Perfection

Classic grooves, all time great album

det svänger faktiskt ganska bra.

THE GOAT

have heard to much michael jackson so be impressed by something like this

Not MJ's best work - and I'm a bit lukewarm on that anyway...

Two good songs. The rest were fun to dance to

get on the floor baseline is god

it's michael jackson, not a fan... 3 stars

Ganska härligt funkig och soulig jämfört med hans mer poppiga skivor. Working Day and Night och It's the falling in love är sköna!
