Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Honestly, kind of middling for an MJ album. Outside of a couple front-loaded single hits, falls flat as a whole.
I think Michael Jackson is alright. I don’t mind his stuff, I think he has a really good voice, but I wouldn’t really put his stuff on myself. Still, this album was alright. I liked the first two songs but I also knew those ones already.
Never realized how very disco-y his early stuff was; this was no exception. Could maybe rate this a 2.5.
Ah, geez. On its musical merit *alone* I can appreciate this album, but I don't believe we can or should separate art from artist.
Not his best
As absolutely huge MJ is - I've never really been a massive fan of the music much. Even the big hits I feel like I've heard a million times but when I actually listen to them I'm like, I don't think this is that good. That being said, it's not all bad. I've already had Thriller in this list and it didn't get much of a rating from me despite having a few of his monster hits on there. There's a couple on this one so far that I don't mind like "Workin Day and Night" and "Get on the Floor" which does have some great energy, and amazing basslines. Overall I wouldn't say this album has done much in the way of changing my opinion; yes he was a great all round entertainer and is loved by many, but his songs rarely do too much for me.
Second MJ album and the first within his included discography. It's kinda crazy to think that Michael Jackson has ten albums within his discography. As a non-fan, I've always had the impression that he released only a handful of albums for whatever reason. All of his most iconic songs are relegated to two or three releases. Anyways, I'm curious to hear what this mid-point in his discography sounds like. I'm not sure whether I'll be hearing anything I recognise in this - the cover isn't as iconic as Thriller or Bad. It's alright. Very polished as far as late-70s pop albums go. The production is pretty sleek. There are many nice-sounding effects and electronic flourishes on these tracks, which is easily the stand-out aspect of this album. The bass is pretty good too, though that's more or less where my praises for this album end. The prominent disco sound isn't really my thing, and Jackson lacks the charisma and presence that he would later find on Thriller. That isn't a criticism, per se. It's a pretty big testament to how far he came between those two albums. Overall, this album made for some nice background noise, but I wasn't too invested in listening beyond that. "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" is vaguely familiar, immediately dispelling my doubts as to whether this album had any familiar tracks. I like the percussion - it's pretty tight. The cowbell - my beloved guilty pleasure instrument - is prominently featured, I like the bassy sound and some of the electronic embellishments were pretty good. Jackson's vocals were a little repetitious, but they were good overall. No questions on whether this belongs in here - it's a Michael Jackson album. I cosign this inclusion.
MJ at 21 years of age, pointing the way to his next step of being a global phenomena with the following album Thriller Quiney Jones taking over as producer helps to set the sound apart from the child superstar of previous years Three solid hits meant this album was everywhere in 1979!
While MJ is considered one of the GOATs of rock, I don't think this has aged well. Don't get me wrong there were a couple of great songs on the album but I won't be listening to this again
Burn This Disco Out?
Michael Jackson får også virkelig vise sin emosjonelle dybde i Shes out of my life. Det må være en av de dårligste låtene jeg noen sinne har hørt.
I don't really enjoy his music anymore.
all over the place with this one
Starts fine and exciting, but quickly gets boring, with very dated disco beats. I'm sure it was hot at the time but it sounds stale by now. Obviously this is the precursor to Thriller where the Q sound would dominate and hit hard.
Not my favorite and not MJ's best, also #cancelled
Master of the genre, just not my genre.
1. ztop - 3.5 2. rock - 3.5 3. night -1.5 4. floor -1 5. uuall - 3 6. girl - 1 7. life -2 8. help - 1.5 9. love - 1 10. burn - 1
Primer àlbum recomanat. Prou bé, però m'agrada més la música així una mica més rollo rock o metal. Tot i això està bé per posar-la mentre estudies o llegeixes, o reculls l'habitació. Vibes bastant chill.
Older MJ, less my jam. Not too entertained by that.
I'm not a jacko fan. it's a bit vanilla for me
like, two catchy songs but the rest of the album was boring
Yeah, well, that was okay ... some big hits to start us off, then a bunch of not so great songs that follow. Never was a big fan of his, but give him credit, he had some great songs in his career.
This is a good album by a talented men. But I will never listen again.
2.4 1x in BER in way to Heathrow
Kinda forgettable outside of the two songs that no one will ever forget.
Still not sold on him.
Never seen the appeal. Annoying voice, bland pop tunes
I understand the appeal but for me this is just mind numbing and gets more and more vacuous as the album wears on... And yes, I have separated the music from the person.
Torn on this because are we separating art from artist? Luckily this album isn't actually that great, so problem solved. Opens on a banger and miscellaneous in the afters.
The production is great. The basslines are really good. But it's disco. And no matter how good it is, you lose at least one star for disco.
Bleh.
Kid diddlin’ ain’t cool
Listening to this had me counting down the minutes for a Clash album to kill off disco.
Songs get samey and it's hard to separate the guy from the music in this case
A few good songs but a lot of filler
Off The Wall shows Michael Jackson’s early pop star power, but it doesn’t fully deliver. While the big singles are energetic and polished, much of the album feels uneven and overly tied to disco trends of its era. The result is a record with standout moments but little lasting depth.
Musikalisch einfach nicht meins, auch wenn es in die Beine geht (kann man nicht leugnen). Über den Menschen dahinter möchte ich hier gar nicht erst anfangen.
Jackson was obviously a master of his craft, and I suppose you can see it in his work. But I quite simply just didn't enjoy listening to this, it didn't hit in any of the right places. Perhaps I'll read this review one day and wonder what was going through my head, but I can't give this any more than a 3. I recognise that Michael Jackson was an amazing artist, but his music means nothing to me personally. Probably doesn't help that the guy slept with kids.
Why are these songs so long
Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Michael issn Idiot, das Album ganz ok.
Boring pop music
Man, do I hate disco, even when Michael Jackson’s doing it. Admittedly, Off the Wall is better than most disco records, but I’m still not really into it. Thriller is pretty solid, but I’m not really into Off the Wall. 2.5/5
I've never liked Michael Jackson and this is an album full of songs you already know and didn't really like. I suppose it's among the best of that late 70s disco but not something I'll make a habit of listening to.
Bis auf den ersten Titel eher lahm...
Not for me. Sorry Michael. Actually I'm not sorry!
Too much falsetto, the songs are just too long when he’s just repeating the same thing over and over, they all sound the same, I’m really not impressed which is a shame considering it’s the King of Pop.
For an album as influential as this was in terms of production, it's not very good is it? I mean, it pretty much set a template for a sort of pop album, that's still followed slavishly today. But almost nothing off gets any radio play, "Don't Stop ..." is about it and then rarely compared to Jackson's other stuff.
MJ is just a little generic for me sometimes.
He was never really as funky as on a few of these songs again, and it's a bit of a milestone as the one before Thriller, and his first album with Quincy Jones, and the production is bloody tight. So, yeah, monumental - in a historical sense as well. I just don't dig it an awful lot, except for the first and last song. Besides those, there's way too much smooth schmaltziness on this. I mean... that whole sequence of songs from Off the Wall onwards (except for the final track) is just... tough to listen to for me.
Meh
Not the best Jackson album. Prefer others. To samey.
Nix
I don't like Michael Jackson. And that's okay.
2.5
This is probably a bit of a hot take, but I don't really like Michael Jackson that much. I grew up in the 80s at the peak of his popularity, and compared to other pop stars of the era, like Prince and Madonna, MJ never quite did it for me. I feel like even his best stuff has a bit of a cheesy element to it. I think this album starts off pretty decently with "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You", but it goes quickly downhill from there. The mix of wimpy ballads and bad disco just isn't my thing. 2 stars.
not the best I think
Voice like butter, undeniably talented, and boy did they try to shoehorn Michael into being a disco star with this one. Thank goodness he didn't stick to the genre, because much better offerings were to come from him.
The horns on the opener are so distinct they become songs unto themselves, yet the rest is forgettable. That's how a lot of this album is for me: there are some ideas, moments and quirks that are pique my interest; everything in between is a drag.
Disappointed with this. I remember growing up watching E! Docos about Michael Jackson. Off the Wall was heralded as the turning point in MJ’s career, from child star to serious adult recording artist. So I expected something a little more. The first two tracks are classic pop disco. Literally everything else here is forgettable, and mediocre. Michael’s voice is endlessly listenable, but it doesn’t save this album from being little more than a hit vehicle. ⭐️⭐️
Not a fan of Michael Jackson myself. Kind of a boring album with a few hit songs. I’m not knocking the cultural significance of it, but not my kind of album.
An understandable social classic. Just not really for me.
Another tough one. I used to love this album so much but it’s hard not to relate the music to Michael Jackson’s paedophilic legacy. I’m sure he has destroyed a lot of lives. This is a 4 star album but minus 2 for kiddy fiddling. Some people think that kiddy fiddling is only worth minus 1 star. I’m taking this seriously, minus 2 stars. MJ what an awesome talent encapsulated in the mind and body of a rich and famous pervert.
While I’m not a fan of MJ there’s no denying this is a bop. I did enjoy some of the disco funk vibes. On the whole not really my thing and minus 1 star for kiddyfiddling
Familiar with his name and more famous songs, this is the same style. Not sure disco's my thing, I didn't find it engaging and did not finish.
I kind of enjoyed "Bad", despite my expectations. This was very bland in comparison.
Not a big fan of MJ, stars are mainly for the great production of Quincy Jones!
First half of each song was decent
The best songs are far better than the rest of this album
Half decent album, some very good funky disco numbers, the slower tracks drag and are a bit too sweet. A better album than Bad
It was ok
Nah.
I really tried to listen to this, but other than the funky bass, there wasn't much here for me.
Surprisingly no
Starts fine and exciting, but quickly gets boring, with very dated disco beats. I'm sure it was hot at the time but it sounds stale by now. Obviously this is the precursor to Thriller where the Q sound would dominate and hit hard.
Honestly I never wanna hear any of these songs ever again. It for me. Hard pass.
My favorite of his, I guess? Power to everyone who digs him. 2.5/5
Ik hou echt niet van Michael en dit is meer van hetzelfde
Not my kind of Disco
I'm a Millennial raised on classic rock and Christian music. I could finally listen to that "modern" music in college. So, Michael, or any of the Jacksons, have no nostalgia for me. His influence is also hard to pin down, because all of my knowledge of this era is retroactive and filtered through SO MANY hot takes, which is the only way we can talk about pop media from the late 70's on. So... I don't like it very much. Thriller was better. Bad was better. This may be "influential," but I'm not sure how much of that is from the artistry itself, the "popification" of disco and funk, or the effect it had on Jackson's next albums. Regardless, it's pretty samey, none of the songs really stand out, and outside of "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," it didn't really cement a presence. It' so simultaneously diverse and noncommittal that I don't know when I would want this. Again, this is the exact era and genres of music that I have the least understanding of, but I'd rather listen to a lot of other disco, funk, and pop of the time than this. And that very much includes Thriller and Bad.
Michael Jackson is always a dilemma for me - even before all the scandals came to light I always thought he was overrated, and obviously after all that came to light it only made it more difficult to pick the good parts out of his music. I guess I could dance to this.
Sure, Michael Jackson was talented, but knowing everything we know it is really hard to listen to his music.
Second Album de MJ proposé dans la liste après 'Bad' que je n'avais pas apprécié. Ce second album contient quelques tubes, en particulier 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough' (++). Par ailleurs les lignes de basse sont souvent bonnes, mais c'est à peu près tout. Et les morceaux plus calmes de la seconde face sont peu inspirants. Je ne l'écouterais pas une seconde fois. =>2/5
A bit too disco for me
MJ is a featherweight, a tragic punchline popinjay. But this is a Quincy Jones joint, so the first couple of singles at least do absolutely slap. The connective tissue is weaksauce milquetoast disco pop but hey, it's sort of alright.
I'm not big on Michael Jackson in the first place, but as far as his music goes, "Off The Wall" is definitely not remarkable.
Don't stop, till you get enough - and not much more.
This version of Michael is far too soulful for me.
Well produced dance music.
Enjoyed. Personal favourite better than Thriller in my opinion. Don't like him
Not a 'have to hear'
No
It was alright. No surprises. The ballads are hard to get through. 1001 album worthy- Yes- 2/3
I like it
One boom BOOM💪
Thriller is my Michael Jackson go-to album. This one doesn't hold up the same. That said, I do quite enjoy Off the Wall.
Super disco-y, which means all the tracks feel homogenous and drawn out. It wants to be fun but if you're not at a club in the 70's it's pretty boring
Ever since the allegations and information that has come out about Michael its hard to sperate the art from the artist. He is musically a genius but a very flawed person for many reasons. I do not listen to MJ unless its on the radio I can never face putting it. Anyway listened to Off The Wall and its great front to back. Would be a 4 star but can only give 2 for well reasons.
I know it's wildly influential, and I enjoy some of the individual tracks on there, but when my overwhelming feeling coming out of an album is "Christ, that went on a bit", it's rarely a good sign.
Really not my sort of thing. A lot of these songs are classics, so they’ve been everywhere for decades, proper Radio 2 fare. Having said all that, you can’t deny the quality, and the Quincy Jones production really shows.
"Keep on, To the post office" I feel that this is going to be the first of many "it's just not for me" albums on this list - this has clearly been put together with some expert musicians, it's very well executed and the levels of each part seem exactly where they need to be... and I still don't like it. The first couple of tracks are very high-energy disco, and I'm a fan of the accompaniment on Working Day and Night, but Michael Jackson has never done it for me from a singing / songwriting standpoint, and this album has unfortunately not changed my perception on that. Additionally, I feel that the album definitely runs out of juice somewhere around the second half, and never quite gets it back. All in all, I can understand if this is your jam, but it's just not doing it for me. Faves: Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, Working Day and Night
Meh.
Was ok
Catchy disco tunes from a serial child molester.
I’ve never been a Michael Jackson fan, even though he was exceptionally popular through middle and high school. And over time, I’ve grown to like it even less because I still hear it too much. Not sure I bag tell you why his music bugs me, but generally Iv would turn the dial of he’s on the radio.
Lots of funk and disco but not as good as Thriller. Dont stop till you get enough and Rock with you carry the album. Fantastic songs but past the opening to I found it to be very average Favourite song: Dont stop till you get enough Least favourite: Get on the floor Album artwork: An odd man
Not a big MJ fan but I did enjoy listening because there were songs I had never heard before.
I mean it is vintage, and I mean vintage MJ -- and Rock with you is a good song but it isn't a spectacular record.
What would weddings do with the 1st song? So back when MJ was black, he was disco Mike. Not really a fan. Rock with you is ok and a few others that are more soulful. Often sounds to be channeling Stevie Wonder which I guess makes sense since he is sitting in on some songs. But a wouldn’t compare the songs to Stevie’s. My son likes to remind me that the war is over, but disco still sucks. 2.4
Other than the opening and closing tracks, I found it very schmaltzy
<obligatory note about how hard it is to separate the art from the artist> It sounds dated, and disco/80's pop is not a genre I particularly enjoy, but I can't deny that some of these songs are catchy. There's almost enough good stuff here to get this to a 3, but the back half of the album falls off. 2.4
In a nutshell: two bangers, eight whimpers. Michael is vocally talented. But the pop disco beat was overused and the funk/R&B elements were borrowed heavily from Stevie Wonder et al. Is it me or does the album feels kinda chaste? Tracks 3 to 10 didn’t do anything for me, yet I understand why the album was popular. Overall: 3/10
I got ‘Bad’ about a month ago and have just re-read my notes on that. Everything I said there also applies to this album. But in a nutshell - Never liked MJ or his music. Even less now in view of allegations. Appreciate millions really rate his music so that stands for something and one extra star. 2/5 21/8/24
Off the Wall is often hailed as a classic, but for me, it it did not live up to its legendary status. Despite Quincy Jones' masterful production, the album feels overly slick and polished, potentially sacrificing raw energy for smoothness. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough stands out with its infectious groove and undeniable charisma, making it a high point of the record. However, the album struggles to maintain this momentum, with several tracks feeling overly long and repetitive. While Jackson's vocal performance is undeniably strong throughout, the overall effect of the album can seem more like a collection of well-produced but ultimately forgettable tracks. NUMBER OF BANGERS - 2 STAND OUT TRACK - Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough
A couple of good songs near the beginning. The second half of the album was a real chore.
Expected to like this more
this one isn't for me
I know there are and there have been many fans of Michael Jackson‘s music, but after listening to this album I once again know I‘m not.
Too disco for me
Very slick and well produced album. The chunky bass lines are a treat, but otherwise not a lot stood out to me.
😒 It deserves a better rater than me. I believe that.
Slick manufactured pop. Clearly a lot of work went into this. Prefer it to Thriller overall as a suite of songs, but it is still fairly standard pop music. Hard to listen to this a 'just music', given all that we now know about Jacko.
Nice production. Great rhythm. Still that voice. 2 stars
Prince better
Meh.
Very disco, very Michael Jackson. What I expected from a King of Pop in his early solo career.
Funky heard about half 2/3 in the car. It's OK but not rushing to hear again.
Fine
Never been a fan. Did enjoy the first couple of tracks, this is really polished and well produced work. Disco isn't my thing, and I ran out of patience pretty quickly. Some of the schmaltzy electric piano was especially annoying.
I thought this was a bit vocally stale to be honest. The bass absolutely slaps though.
it had its moments
This album was more painful than [Insert pedophile joke here]. Sorry Mr. Jackson. It's not you. It's your music. Disco. Never found it appealing, and often find it grating. Like many songs on this album.
Other than the obvious 2 hits, this is all a bit bland, plus you know, there's...that
Comes out the gate strong but then falls off. I didn't like the song "Girlfriend" or the other slow ones but I can see that this was probably a disco bop rager when it came out. Not his strongest work and not really for me.
J'ai pas écouté MJ, pas mon fav hein
Ehh
I just don't do disco, although Michael has a beautiful voice. Listens: 2 Fave Track: I Can't Help It Rating: 2
Too slick, too shiny, too polished. I'm just not into it at all. It's like you can recognise the talent of the production, of the singer and of the songwriter, but still be left feeling like someone has chiselled a little bit of music's soul away forever.
Michael Jackson hat grossartiges für den Pop geleistet, aber dieses Album ist mir zu funkig.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 2
Don't stop til you get enough is a banger, but I didn't like the rest... 2
I know it's terrible to say but I found this boring, sorry everyone.
I did not enjoy this. There was enough funk on a few tracks to save it from a 1-star rating from me. But too much disco everywhere else.
Favourite Song: Don't Stop Til You Get Enough When you know what's to come, it's hard not to compare. This is an alright album, but the bad songs are bad and the good ones aren't quite good enough to make up for it.
It was ok
Hm. Ok, aber keine Offenbarung.
Disco M J, not really my cup of tea. He was a great pop artist, though
Yes, it’s a great album. But I’ll separate the art from the artist when it no longer has his name on it, and when the profits go to charity.
Not a fan.
Ok
I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never listened to this album in it's entirety, until now. Being the same age as Michael, I should have more respect for what he accomplished in his lifetime. When I was the age he was when he recorded this album, I was working in a record store and was obsessed with new wave and punk rock, so his style was not my cuppa tea, if you get my drift. All the same, listening to it now with more developed sensitivies, I can hear the production quality attained and feel the energy of the mood he was trying to convey. I'll still say, that if it weren't for this site's challenge, I may never ever have chosen to play this album, so thank you for encouraging me to expand my horizons.
First of all, I'm not happy about listening to this record. I am unable to listen to Michael Jackson without thinking about how he was a pedophile, and he was powerful enough that people just LET HIM BE ONE. But anyway, that's not the point of this. I'll try to look at it for its merit. Essentially this is a perfect blend of like, pop and disco? If that makes sense? Personally I think disco is often way more proggy and jazzy, which this is not, but it is obviously very influenced by disco. After the two big lead-in tracks ("Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You") the album gets a little more interesting. Those songs are just so played out they only make me think of music at boring weddings. To be honest, that is still kind of the vibe to the whole album. "She's Out of My Life" is a departure. It is sad and sweet and musically it sounds like a sound bath or something, which is fun because of the contrast to the aggressive cheer of the rest of the record. "It's the Falling in Love" is also pretty good and it makes me annoyed that I never get to hear that song but I've head "Rock with You" probably hundreds of times. Overall, a pretty dull record that took disco and watered it down.
Perfect Disco funk, just, that's not my favorite music. Sorry, therfore only two stars Anyway, there are two songs I like: Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough She's Out of My Life ( -sounds like the later Jackson)
Not his best work.
I wonder if he had starting diddling children when this album came out.
Overproduced. Overrated.
Overrated pedo
I'm getting to a point where I'm not sure if I actually like Michael Jackson or if I've just been indoctrinated over the years. The hits are good (maybe?), but all the other tracks sound like over produced filler. Best Songs: Off the Wall Listen Again: No
Almost like a proto lesser version of Thriller. Some hits, lots of misses.
Really not that special for me. Sorry MJ fans. And not just because he was a paedophile - I just don’t find it to be the sensational music that everyone thinks it is.
Er staan er meer op dat ik ken dan ik dacht. Tja, koning van niet-mijn-ding.
Ik was benieuwd naar het'volledige album', en was vrij snel teleurgesteld.
I’ve always been put off by Michael Jackson’s vibe. Objectively, I’m sure this is great. It just doesn’t appeal to me. Some of the production and bass lines are great.
Meh, too much disco. Startin Somethin and the title track are certified jams though. 3.4 minus 1 point for being a scumbag. 2.4 rounded down.
sounds 70's did not enjoy much wouldn't seek it out for certain
Not really my thing. Was ok.
You really, based on memory alone, would probably say that every song on this album is a jam. And that is so true until you hit 'Girlfriend'. And then you hit 'She's Out of My Life'. And then you hit 'It's the Falling in Love'. And then it hits your memory that Jackson reached a settlement with the accuser's family, reportedly for millions of dollars, and no criminal charges were filed. The settlement was later used as evidence by the prosecution during the 2005 trial to suggest a pattern of behavior. In 2005, Jackson was charged with multiple counts of child molestation, administering an intoxicating agent, and conspiracy to commit child abduction, false imprisonment, and extortion. The allegations involved a 13-year-old cancer survivor who had spent time at Jackson's Neverland Ranch. And while he was acquitted, it's pretty creepy. It basically turned me off of his music and made playing it feel questionable to me.
Look, I hate pedophiles and llamas as much as anyone else does, but Don't Stop and Rock with You are great tunes. Unfortunately, neither of those songs redeems MJ or this album.
Unless you're a hardcore MJ fan, it's really hard to appreciate this in this day and age, especially with what we know about MJ.
Never was really a fan of Michael Jackson, still at not. A few songs were ok but I don’t get what all the hype is with his music.
Didn’t hate it but also don’t live Michael Jackson. I like the more disco-y songs.
Don’t Stop… is a song so good that it’s enough to make you forget that MJ abused young boys The rest of album is not good enough to make you forget MJ abused young boys
Not the best MJ album. He was still breaking out of the disco from where he started, before he started getting ahead of the curve with pop. But the singles/hits on this album are still pretty great
Not really all his big hitters
Eh. I know people love him, but it's not my thing
Pas comme si j'écoutais ça souvent. La première moitié est meilleure que la seconde, c'est plus soft, j'hais pas, mais c'est pas mon style du tout. J'opterais plus pour 2.5 que 2.
in the start i was grooving along 2.5/5
I took his advice and stopped once I got enough.
Meh
2/5. I don’t know, I think this one is just overrated. The first song and the midway song are pretty cool bangers but not even his best stuff. The rest are just half-decent to unlistenable. Production is great but the music has much to be desired. Only giving it a 2 instead of a 1 cause I’ve heard worse.
Not my favorite
Turns out this pedophile made a disco album. I don’t like it. 2 out of 5 stars.
Sacrilege I know but…meh. Some good funky pop tracks and some truly turgid ballads set to plinky plonky child’s keyboard backing.
I'm finding it hard to consider anything higher than a 2. Most of the songs on the album are filler, and I'm convinced Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough and Rock With You are too long. I really like She's Out Of My Life, but I think I've heard better covers of it. Bad boy bump seems inappropriate in this situation. Sorry MJ. He has better albums, in any case.
Some kind of fun disco vibes but mostly boring and also I hate Michael Jackson
*Disclaimer: I’m uneasy speaking too much about MJ so I’ll keep this and future reviews of his vague* Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: it’s meh Favourite song: Track 1 - Don’t Stop till You Get Enough
Don't Stop is obviously great, but the rest of the album is generic disco. Maybe it was great in the 80s, but it doesn't stand up.
It's Michael Jackson but not good.
meh
This is the King of Pop starting to find his feet. Only those feet are covered in platform shoes. Not quite ready to moonwalk through into legend. Some of this album showcases how MJ could surpass the trappings of a genre and redefine it--most of it holds to the aged disco aesthetic. Unfortunately, I'm not a big disco fan.
Not a big fan. He made some really good music, but for the most part, it isn't on this album. I guess it's significant because it's his debut solo album. It wasn't bad, it's just too much a product of the time.
Bland MJ pop, feels like late 70s. Some decent production. Heard the bassline sampled for Breakadawn by De La Soul on I Can't Help It.
Not a huge fan of Michael Jackson. Some of the songs quite funky. Song titles and feeling gave me a vibe of falling in love breaking up and coming to terms with it
At the risk of sounding culturally inept, I didn't know that the heavy hitters that begin this LP were by Michael Jackson (though the vocals and production flair should have made this obvious in hindsight). While these early tracks wow, the energy definitely decays across the remainder of the album as things drift into Muzak territory. There aren't enough novel melodic ideas or song structures on the back half to spark interest, so the overall enjoyment droops as the LP runs.
I've never really listened to any Michael Jackson before, and I'm not a big fan. Just not the style for me.
Unglaublich langweilig.
I don't like it.
MJ has a great voice, but this album is a bit too disco and has too many ballads. My least favorite MJ album so far.
Ich stehe null auf disco deswegen find ich das hier echt lahm. Spare mir das Lob für Thriller und Bad
There's so much baggage that comes with MJ now. These are catchy pop songs but all i can think about is what he became.
Enjoyable
Passed me like a whisper at night.
(taj dio albuma), ostatak dosadan i meh.
Like either this just isn't MJ's best album or I just need to accept that I dont like his music at all really
Side A was good, Side B was more meh.
off the shit yes
good album, just wasn't in the mood for something so poppy
Några låtar var bättre än vad jag förväntade mig. Många låtar påminde mig om varför jag ogillar denna typ av pop.
It’s Michael Jackson! I was pumped to hear it! (Despite the feelings I have towards the little dirty that he is) but boy was I let down! How this is called a classic is way above my pay grade?!? Absolute tosh. 2 stars and I’m being generous because I’ve had one too many tennents tonight and I might have a baby on the way. Otherwise I’d literally be eyeballing the 1 star. I get how people dig it, but he definitely got better after this. This album is shit.
Don't Stop Til You Get Enough is cracking start. Girlfriend was the first in 4 albums that I had to skip and I had had enough by the end.
Strong start, then from Girlfriend onwards its naff until the final song. 2
Not great for me. I like the singles. 3 songs. The rest are okay.
“Can’t stop till I get enough... of Michael Jackson Too familiar with his later work which was much better
Outside of the hits is there anything more here from every 9 years old boy's favorite sleep over buddy? Not really. The non singles are bang average. On Girlfriend his hearts not in it for some reason... 2/5 just for the two hits. Prefer his rockier later stuff because as we all know disco sucks.
Don't get the fuss
Just not into disco Michael Jackson. Not that it's bad. Just not something I will throw on for fun.
The singles are incredible but the rest isn't good enough to overcome my opinion of this trash person.
2.5
Idc about his musical legacy. I cannot enjoy his music knowing what he did to children.
If I could listen to this on its own merit its an easy 5 stars. Sometimes Im able to enjoy art from monsters. Maybe its because his sanitized biopic just released. But this go around I actually couldnt get past the 3rd song cus I kept thinking that I'm just listening to a pedophile
Ass
I'd had enough by half way through the first verse. So I stopped.
I may be the only person rating this 1 star for a reason completely unrelated to the pedophilia. This is just BAD. Not like the hit album "Bad", but horrible. I genuinely cannot believe that this has a 3.8 average. Cheesy snoozefest.
wow
Did not listen. Does not interest me.
Can't separate the man from the music.
I don’t particularly like this album and have serious concerns about the performer.
Nope. The only reason this nonce should have been “off the wall” is if he was about to be shot.
I think I'd love this album if it wasn't sung by Michael Jackson. I really enjoy the disco/funky vibe, but I've always HATED his voice and all the hee's, ha's, and uhs EVERYWHERE. Why does he do this all the time, it's too much!
I managed three songs. Three too many.
A pedophile
Music you grew up with. Always on the radio. However it's hard to overlook his outside interests. I'm afraid I can't.
Consistent with my other Michael Jackson take: I can't listen to this anymore. This one hurts a bit more because this is one of my all-time favorite records on a pure sonic level. I love it. But... yeah. Nope.
Nope
I would have given this one a four. docking all the stars possible for being a predo pedo
Ætla ekki að hlusta á þessa
Shite
I know this is an iconic, legendary album, but I just didn’t like it at all. I’m a mid 40 year old white guy if that helps provide reference
Never.
Oh, you can say Michael Jackson was off the wall alright.
Tainted by history.
No streaming revenue for abusers
Before I knew it would have been a 4. But all I’ll give this child rapist is:
Certainly the only one of his albums I can get through without too much suffering… just a deep, steady boredom instead. And that’s probably only because it’s less drenched in 80s gloss than what came after; there’s still something a bit raw, a bit visceral in there. But… I’m never sitting through this whole thing again.
Not sure about the cover. Michael actually appears to be on the wall, not off it. One star, per paedo protocol.
Nope. Gross.
He is a demon
Never been Michael Jackson fan, and this album doesn't make an exception.
just can't stand this album, ugh
Sorry I can't separate the art from the artist.
Puh, echt nicht meins
I’ll pass
Well, the first half at least is better than Thriller or Bad. But I really disliked Bad and hate 80% of Thriller with a passion. And then the slower stuff started - Girlfriend, She’s out of my life etc… And I really disliked that again. There must be a reason McCartney kept collaborating on shite ballads, but it seriously calls into question his judgement. So, turns out I don’t like Jackson’s music very much. That and being a nonce doesn’t help me rate this objectively. I’m struggling between the clear 2/3 of the first half and the obvious 1 of the slow stuff. So, nonce rule applied and it’s a 1 then.
I mean, this album is obviously fantastic but he’s a pedophile so…
music: hated. (⌐■_■)
Michael Jackson has never clicked for me, and this disco-heavy album reinforced that feeling. I'm generally not a fan of disco to begin with, so the retro production style was already working against it. The songs feel dated and the writing doesn't grab me. Nothing here made me want to hit repeat. Trying to get through the album felt like a chore. Definitely wouldn't have listened to this outside of working through this list.
Meh
No.
I think being inundated with MJ in the early 90's might have skewed my perspective a bit, but while there are some pretty catchy songs on this album, there are some major stinkers on there as well.
His music is not for me! I don't understand why his music is so popular! It's all sooo repetitive!
🤷♂️
begon goed... daarna pudding gewijs in elkaar gezakt... onze kinderverkrachter heeft betere platen gemaakt
Didn't listen. This artist shouldn't be promoted.
Nah.

not at all my type of music, felt like a chore trying to get through the album. would not listen again. 1/5 stars.
Michael Jackson is a hard NO. Disco is an even harder NO. Michael Jackson’s disco album is a FUCK NO. I managed to skim it for a minute. That was a minute I’ll never get back.
I refuse to listen to or review this garbage.
No thanjs
Find it unsettling listening to the music of a paedophile.
I cannot rate him. Such a lost person, a poor human, and a scum as well. The album itself is pretty solid and I would rate it a three, but I made it a rule for myself ..
I'm not keen on paedophiles.
Disco sucks
Not an interesting album for me.
I have never been a Michael Jackson fan, obviously talented but not my cup of tea.
Crappy disco album. Just because it's Michael Jackson doesn't mean it's good.
Well, that was a waste of a weekend choice.
Sure. I get why 3 Michael albums are on this list. But he is a pedo. I don't know if I can ever let that go. It will be the first thing I think of every time I hear his name or a song by him. Is that fair? Who The Fuck Cares?! What he did to little children wasn't fair
I cannot separate art from the artist
Not mine
Seichter Pop.
nonce
Nope
Just going to 1 star this and move on...
One good song. Doesn’t stand the test of time
MJ, ew... gross
Albums by abusers probably shouldn't be on this list.
Pedophile Pop.
bad
It's disco. Yuck.
Mid
I did not like the album.
geht so
Dont lime
Squeaky
1979. Started out strong first couple tracks but got boring quick. As a cohesive unit, not a great album.
Boycott
what the hell
i've been dreading the inclusion of michael jackson albums. it's hard to reconcile good music when it's created by a pedophile. to be fair, a large part of off the wall's direction is due to quincy jones. jackson's initial solo albums were not noteworthy. but once jones joins him, jackson's albums become instant hits. off the wall is the beginning of the huge pop star jackson would become. as a result, the first two songs are absolute disco bangers. the rest of the album isn't bad and makes for good enough listening but pales in comparison to the first two. anyway, i'd probably give this album a 3 if the artist didn't commit sexual abuse to children.
