They really said "Looney Tunes sound effects" during the third song. Brave, I respect that. Okay, this is definitely music to scare the hoes. Play this at a party and they'll take you to a mental institute after two minutes. But this is exactly why I'm here doing this challenge. Never in a million years would I know that this album exists without the existence of this book and this site. I'm glad I listened to this, because this is a damn ritual. That final song takes you to Jupiter. Did I like it? Hard to say. Did I enjoy the experience? Yeah.

Horrible
Sometimes these albums have songs that I wonder if they could actually ever be reproduced again. Song 4 of this album, and 19:52 is one such song. It sounds like someone tinkering in basement, and I'd be shocked if this same 19:52 could ever be reproduced. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. The album was ok. The screeching in the last track brought it down a half star for me, and that's why it's 2 starts instead of 3. I don't need car tires on pavement, blenders and grinding in music. The more screeches the lower the score. Simple.

Disco bastante extraño pero supongo influencias de lo que harían muchas bandas de los últimos años de combinar fondos electrónicos y de rock, estilo Kasabian. Comienza lento pero cierra mucho mejor. 3.5 que sube a 4 por la sorpresa de que me gustara.
No está MAL por sí mismo, de hecho, si fuera un disco de los 90 sería de lo más meh; pero al ser de 1973 siento que lo distingue de lo que otros estaban haciendo y quizá se pueda pensar que son pioneros. De cualquier manera, salvo momentitos que son sonoramente agradables, no me atrajo la atención ni me hizo mayor gracia.

humm, not my cup of tea
Nice background listen while getting on with work - when you see the tracklist and see 4 tracks, 40 mins, and the last track is half that runtime, you kind of have an expectation of what you're going to get, and you do get that, but I didn't find it as offputting as a lot of that kind of prog. Enjoyed it, would listen again.
Was pretty cool. Nice background music. Wasn't particularly moved or inspired by it, but I did enjoy it and would happily listen again. Relaxed, easy-going rock music centred around guitars and keys, with pleasant grooves and nice ambient soundscapes to accompany. Feels like something I would probably enjoy more and more on repeated listens.

What an absolutely gorgeous album. I'm only discovering Can now...in the last year it so and every listen reveals something new (to me). I'm always surprised at how soulful the music. 4.5 🌟

This was a very interesting, yet relaxing listen. This is definitely something I need to return to and soak in. A unique album full of good, soothing vibes.
I had never even heard of this band before this. While sparse at times, this is still a solid piece of what you could call ambient rock. Has a perfect vibe for putting on as background music.
Now this is the weird shit I've been waiting for. Never heard of Can before but I love this type of music. It feels very ahead of it's time. I span this a couple of times today and will do so again as it was a trip. Keep this stuff coming.
Awesome album
Såja! God kål. Har strölyssnat på Can i ett par år, kul att ha en anledning att lyssna lite mer fokuserat, även om det inte är det mest lättuggade. Väldigt stämningsfullt, experimentellt, och lite psykedeliskt. Albumet består av fyra låtar. Låt nr. 3, Moonshake, är väl den mest konventionella, mest för att den är endast ca. 3 minuter lång, till skillnad från låt 1 och 2, som är nära 10 minuter vardera, och låt 4, Bel Air, som tar upp hela B-sidan med sina 20 minuter. Trots att det hör till genren att det ska vara lite svårtillgängligt är det ändå ett relativt vänligt album för ovana lyssnare. Låtarna har till största delen en härlig, ambient vibe, och går bra att bara ha i bakgrunden. Även om det ofta pågår ganska mycket, kanske framför allt i delar av Bel Air, känns det ändå väl uttänkt och samspelt - det blir aldrig för mycket, för spretigt. Bel Air är albumets höjdpunkt, speciellt andra halvan, där tempot successivt ökas. Velade mellan en 3:a och en 4:a. Album av denna typen bör lyssnas på minst 20 gånger innan en rättvis bedömning kan göras, men det hinner jag inte med! Så väljer att fria hellre än fälla. Bästa låt: Bel Air.

‘Future Days’ is a calm, spaced out mix of shifting prog, ambient and electronic sounds and textures with a jazz sensibility. It’s not quite as off the wall, bonkers or daring as their other album in this list, ‘Tago Mago’, but it’s ultimately more accessible.
this album wasn’t memorable at all and none of it was interesting. I didn’t despise it but it just wasn’t fun
Hmm. OK I have heard of Can and have never been shy about my early prog-leanings. I mean....I grew up listening to Rush...Yes...Genesis... even some ELP for godsake so the idea of a 20+ minute song actually gets/got me kinda interested. First two songs are in the 9 minute range, they're fine, but not so much songs. The title track plays like a decent intro, even if it goes on a little longer than it should. I was sorta queued up waiting for the big 2nd half epic of "Bel Air" and .... Ugh, it's not that this is all bad - it's not (well....mostly.... the 2nd half of "Bel Air" is pretty rough and pointless) - it just didn't/doesn't hold my interest anywhere and it's frustrating. For example, Supper's Ready (Genesis) is perhaps my ideal of a 20 minute song that is cinematic/epic/captivating/enthralling - here "Bel Air" takes up the entire 2nd half of this album and it... meanders endlessly. Again if that's your thing - great - but to me this is just sound (not quite approaching flaming hot trash territory like Velvet Underground "sound/noise") and occasionally interesting musical passages but I was never able to latch onto it - maybe a semi-parallel could be the band Gong, who I really liked (Flying Teapot is gold) and knew how to construct *something* out of spacey jamming/weirdness but this ... does not have it at all. Mostly just disappointed. Pass. 3/10 2 stars

Some of the best Krautrock
huge surprise here. i'd never heard of them, and yet they were reborn in the late 90s in the form of Air. i've found myself saying this a lot, but i really enjoyed that final track - i guess that was a thing, to throw out some truly ridiculous stuff right at the close of the album. never really thought about it, but now that i am, of course it was a thing. anyway, it's a fun one, and i'm still having trouble believing this album came from 1973. we really did just recycle a lot of the stuff from our collective youth, i suppose, in the 90s...we brought back disco in the form of techno, the vw beetle in the form of the vw beetle...and the influence of the light, airy feel of this album persists across the feathered hair of the 80s, all the way into the 'retro' instagram filters of the moment. it's like they found a wormhole, and somehow lived on both sides of it at once.
Interesting experimental album. It didn't feel like there were any standout moments, but it had a good feel overall. Good background music, not sure I would want to listen to it with full attention.

Sounds like the official soundtrack to "The Elder", a movie that doesn't exist yet compelled Kiss to make a concept album about. This is meant to be a compliment. Or a way to suggest I'm glad this is on the list, I enjoyed listening to it, and then thought about the time Paul Stanley wore a purple headband.

Interesting and very nice album. Feels like it was made before Tago Mago since it is less experimental but was actually made five years later. It has a nice balance and is very listenable, not as amazing as Tago Mago or Monster Movie.

Purtroppo, come spesso accade in album simili, a discapito della qualità di un progetto musicale, giocano altri fattori che possono influenzare l'esperienza dell'ascoltatore. Nel mio caso, io li ho capiti abbastanza subito e purtroppo a un certo punto hanno smesso di stupirmi, poi verso la fine mi sono anche un po' annoiato. Comunque bravi
Non avevo mai ascoltato i Can prima e non li avevo mai sentiti nominare nonostante siano abbastanza famosi nel panorama "Krautrock". Questo disco non è di facile ascolto ma sembra comunque la colonna sonora di un trip rilassato di LSD. Mi imagino tipo Bel Air nella classica scena del trip allucinogeno in un film, dove la vocetta del cantante giappo tedesco viene da qualche lumaca o pietra parlante. In ogni caso è stato godibile, nonostante i 19 minuti di traccia. I musicisti sono tutti molto bravi. Il problema principale che ho è la vena un po' troppo jazz orientata all'improvvisazione che crea questi pezzi con delle strutture circolari, dove i tempi compositivi sono super dilatati senza motivo. Alla fine, come dicevo, non mi ha annoiato, che è sicuramente un pregio e un rischio di questo tipo di musica, però allo stesso tempo questa dilatazione se ti cattura lo fa più per proprietà ipnotiche che per trasporto emotivo. In ogni caso direi un 3 abbastanza giusto.

Airy and light, clear influence on future electronica and art-rock outfits like Radiohead. Prog elements and interesting rhythms / chord progressions put above other Krautrock like Kraftwerk.

Better than what I was expecting. Song 2 is a little too jazzy for me.
I knew Moonrocks but other than that it was a first listen and an a very enjoyable one.
Maybe I wasn't in the mood but didn't get much from this.... Definitely too experimental for me. Maybe would get more from it under different circumstances...

There's not a lot to say about this album aside from the fact that it's pleasing to the ears. Easy listening with chill instrumentals and soft vocals.
I know that this is a seminal, influential, experimental rock/jazz/psychedelic ensemble, but I just didn’t find any of the songs worth listening to a second time.

I dug it! Waaaay ahead of their time. Obviously each song ran long and I get it, but could have tightened it up and progressed through them faster
Enjoyable enough, even though it's only four long jam tracks it meanders around in an interesting way that doesn't become too monotonous or droning.
Quite intrigued by this one. Through no fault of its own, it suffers a bit from cultural overload, meaning that in the ~50 years since the album's release, this style of music has been so heavily co-opted by spas and yoga studios that it's really hard for me to separate it all out. Fortunately, this album has a depth of layers and textures and other interesting elements that the typical spa/yoga album or playlist tends to lack. The album gets intense at times, and rhythmic, in good ways.

Levyn kahdesta ekasta biisistä en juuri välittänyt, mutta sitten levyn lopun Mooshake ja Bel Air oli hyvinkin mielenkiintoisia. Hyvällä tavalla mielenkiintoisia. Ekassa kahdessa biisissä erikoiset kikkailut ei niin iskeneet. Levyn bonusyllärinä tuli se, että bändi on saksalainen. Jos asettaa kontrastiin, että levy on tehty '73, niin annan pioneerikolmosen vähän kokeellisemmasta levystä.

1,000,000% better than their previous album on the list, Tago Mago, so have inflated the score proportionally to a very generous 2/5. Tago Mago was grating and annoying, this is just dull. 'Moonshake' is at least an actual song.

Highlight: Moonshake Improv beatnik avant garde jazz-band serpentine musical diaries aren't really my thing, but Future Days is an all-together pleasant journey. It would be right at home at a coffee shop while writing a screenplay on a heavily-stickered Macbook, masking the clatters of coffee cups stacked high, the hissing of the steamer, the buzz-rumble of the grinder. CAN's free-flowing movements aren't impolite or particularly memorable, they're just /there/ and aren't in any way meant to intrude or divert your attention. This is good study music.
I enjoyed how little songs were on this album but they were also very long songs. My fav was Spray but this felt more like a Jazz album than rock.

This was pretty cool! Not much to say, just a few songs. But I think it's amazing that an album with this sound and structure was made in the early '70s. I don't mind long songs, and the longest one here was my favorite. Favorite tracks: Bel Air, Future Days. Album art: Very simple logo, but a cool design. Nice colors too. "Can" might be the simplest band name I've ever heard. 3.5/5

Varsin mielenkiintoinen uusi tuttavuus! Alussa oli vähän WTF-fiilikset mutta tämähän toimii. Hieman kuin Talking Heads mutta ilman ärsyttäviä elementtejä. Kikkailu pysyy ihan hyvin hanskassa ja meno on muutenkin tyylikästä. Ihan huippuarvosanaan ei näillä meriiteillä vielä pääse, mutta erittäin vahvalla kolmosella mennään.

this took a bit to get going but its psychedelic AF after a bit and pretty trippy to listen to with headphones on. everything is panned in weird ways, lots of instruments coming and going, volume swells etc. pretty spacey, there was definitely a bit of drug use going on. 3/5
