Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Pelkällä nuuskalla buustattu kuulija ei pääse tiloihin, joten kokemus hyvin vaisu.

Ei jää jälkipolville kerrottavaa. Varmasti olut edelläkävijä, no doubt, mut ei lähteny

Après avoir pourtant pourri l'ambiance lors de sa première apparition, Can se voit recevoir une deuxième invitation dans l'incompréhension générale. Le résultat n'est en rien différent du premier passage.

Not really feeling it. Enjoyed Pink Floyd’s Saucerful of Secrets more than this. Final track was okay.

Litt masete

Listened on 3/2/23 2/5 Favorite song: Bel Air (even if it was 17 min) Very futuristic and I’m sure if I was more cultured I would like it but it just sounds like a collection of random noises

Listened Before? N This was sort of interesting, but just background music really. It made me feel like I was living in a video game. Not great. I'll give it a bit of credit for being before it's time, and a bit for the music flowing but I have to detract for the lack of vocals. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Moonshake

Como música de fondo se deja escuchar. Hay cosas mejores de Can y aunque durante mucho tiempo fue sinónimo de peñazo he escuchado cosas en esta lista bastante peores. Esta para mí se queda en 2 estrellas.

Horrible. Bad singing, nothing stood out, and just droning on and on. 3/10.

experimental rock. Ni fú ni fá

Pretty cool but overall it's mostly background noise and atmosphere.

Groovy, but a song shouldn’t be 20 minutes long. 2.5

A little too erratic and jazzy. Weird understated vocals.

This was just chaotic noise to me.

Is the album generator sentient? I find it quite remarkable that I've been assigned some German experimental rock the very day I picked up and brought home my brand new Volkswagen Tiguan. There's something fishy afoot... Even though I hate this album, I'm marking my rating up for the serendipity of it all.

Starts with rhythms not far from previous selection's bossanova (Bebel Gilberto). Overall too much ethereal ambience, but sounds modern and has genuine dancey rhythms (amongst the ambience).

This is funky and weird. Just a few songs, but woah that last one is erm.. long! But that last one does indeed have the best sound as it diverges from what is otherwise kind of a strange offshoot of prog rock or something. The chugging guitar licks and the weird distant vocals all come together to make something pleasing. Still think this is the last time I will ever listen to this album, but kudos for that last anthem.

To sum up in one word: “Atmospheric”.

Evolució del kraut rock a una mena de proto ambient, amb un tema, 'Moonshake', que gairebé es podria considerar pop mainstream, teint en compte el so habitual de la banda. En general el disc és valent i molt pro, però sense gaires context d'escolta adients

Maybe i haven't listened to enough bad ambient, experimental music to know what good ambient experimental music sounds like. Its not particularly engaging or interesting... doesn't do too much for me.

No lyrics so I don’t like it

Fine…nothing exciting or overly interesting, but good background music

Might be better with some weed

i found this kinda boring

Pushing the boundaries of what you can consider music, and not exactly in a good way. 4/10

I kinda just feels like jazz with extra random sounds. Neither one is my jam...I keep forgetting it's even playing because my brain keeps shoving it into background noise.

Jam band stuff. Makes for great background noise, but there are Jimmy Buffett albums I would replace this on the 1001 albums you must hear before you die list...

Can was unquestionably an innovative band and musically this album is sound. Could have been my mood but just had a hard time getting into it.

Love prog rock but they took it a little too far.

rock experimental, bons instrumento mas demasiadamente inventivo

Disappointing for a Can album. Had listened to other albums in the past and found them far superiors to this one. This one just sounded like background music. 1.5/5

I never know what to say about albums like this. I didn't dislike it but I didn't like it either. When I compare it to other similar albums I've listened to for this project so far I don't know whether to say I like it more or less. I just don't get it I guess?

Mindless droning without a clear melody

A bit too way out for me I'm afraid.

Instrumental y setentero. Con ritmo, pero no destacando especialmente

Nothing here I hated. But absolutly nothing here I liked, either.

Can albums are challenging in that they're usually a joy to listen to, but lack the melodic staying power necessary to be memorable in any sense. Exact case here - this was an enjoyable 40 minutes of psych-rock, but I'm pressed to remember any exact phrases that stayed with me.

Not amazing, can see they went on to greater things c

I liked one song, I think. Otherwise it was just boring.

No big stand-out moments from this album for me. A 1.5.

This is a very interesting album. Interesting can have a lot of meanings and when used in the context of this album, it means bold and didn't reward. Its very modern for the 70's but maybe too modern. A lot of noises and sounds make some alright tracks. Probably wont return...

Sometimes these albums have songs that I wonder if they could actually ever be reproduced again. Song 4 of this album, and 19:52 is one such song. It sounds like someone tinkering in basement, and I'd be shocked if this same 19:52 could ever be reproduced. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. The album was ok. The screeching in the last track brought it down a half star for me, and that's why it's 2 starts instead of 3. I don't need car tires on pavement, blenders and grinding in music. The more screeches the lower the score. Simple.

Weird prog frock, didn’t grab me

this album wasn’t memorable at all and none of it was interesting. I didn’t despise it but it just wasn’t fun

Hmm. OK I have heard of Can and have never been shy about my early prog-leanings. I mean....I grew up listening to Rush...Yes...Genesis... even some ELP for godsake so the idea of a 20+ minute song actually gets/got me kinda interested. First two songs are in the 9 minute range, they're fine, but not so much songs. The title track plays like a decent intro, even if it goes on a little longer than it should. I was sorta queued up waiting for the big 2nd half epic of "Bel Air" and .... Ugh, it's not that this is all bad - it's not (well....mostly.... the 2nd half of "Bel Air" is pretty rough and pointless) - it just didn't/doesn't hold my interest anywhere and it's frustrating. For example, Supper's Ready (Genesis) is perhaps my ideal of a 20 minute song that is cinematic/epic/captivating/enthralling - here "Bel Air" takes up the entire 2nd half of this album and it... meanders endlessly. Again if that's your thing - great - but to me this is just sound (not quite approaching flaming hot trash territory like Velvet Underground "sound/noise") and occasionally interesting musical passages but I was never able to latch onto it - maybe a semi-parallel could be the band Gong, who I really liked (Flying Teapot is gold) and knew how to construct *something* out of spacey jamming/weirdness but this ... does not have it at all. Mostly just disappointed. Pass. 3/10 2 stars

very experimental, it nulls the entire point of an album for me. no concept, just jamming. would be cool to see them live, though.

I don’t know why this was on the list. It’s fine but not special. 2/5

Alright. Not offensive but not my bag. 2/5

No me acuerdo si lo escuché, pero sí lo escuché.

Kinda cool ahead of its time

It’s fine until the tedious 20 minute closer. Get over yourself. No one wants to hear a 20 minute song about nothing.

Lotta instrumental prog rock, sounds ahead of it’s time but doesn’t really do it for me.

Quite intrigued by this one. Through no fault of its own, it suffers a bit from cultural overload, meaning that in the ~50 years since the album's release, this style of music has been so heavily co-opted by spas and yoga studios that it's really hard for me to separate it all out. Fortunately, this album has a depth of layers and textures and other interesting elements that the typical spa/yoga album or playlist tends to lack. The album gets intense at times, and rhythmic, in good ways.

Thought this was an interesting group.... and only 4 songs....

2/5 naaaahhh, way too instrumental

Een tweede ster omdat een nummer Spray van de band Can wel een fijntje is.

Fairly tedious faff

Sounds like they were making music for movie. Long tracks and space age sounds. Did like Moonstruck🌛

no bangers on this one. just an album of noise dressed up as art

1,000,000% better than their previous album on the list, Tago Mago, so have inflated the score proportionally to a very generous 2/5. Tago Mago was grating and annoying, this is just dull. 'Moonshake' is at least an actual song.

Unremarkable.

Jim hates Phish. I hate Jim.

The warmth of a dusty furnace, relaxing background music but nothing life changing.

Bizarre

Way ahead of its time. Not for me but damn did they influence a generation of indie artists

I feel like Phish was born from this and I don't like that vibe. I thought this was okay though

Noget syret

A bit too bland for me!

Not really my thing. Quite boring and the man's voice is reedy and annoying.

the vocals are kinda odd. even the beats sounds very odd.

Wish I could give it less than one star.

I think i can defend my 1 star rating by saying that this whole album is basically a whole lot of nothing. Interesting layering on every track but literally nothing else, i don’t vibe with this at all and there is a 20 minute track which i tried to pay attention to but it literally felt like background noise. Highlights: None Lowlights: Every track

Can’s Future Days is one of those albums that I can appreciate more than I can enjoy. Right from the title track, it’s obvious that the band is made up of talented musicians with a unique vision. “Future Days” is layered, breezy, calming, and almost ambient in its approach. The instrumentation creates a relaxing atmosphere that feels effortless, though I initially struggled with the vocals. They’re so quiet and pitchy that they seem to disrupt the flow rather than add to it. As the song continued, I adjusted to them, but they never fully clicked with me. “Spray” continues in a similar vein with its psychedelic and layered sound. I can understand why people connect with this kind of music, but it simply isn’t something I gravitate toward. The textures are interesting and the musicianship is undeniable, yet I found myself admiring it from a distance rather than becoming immersed in it. “Moonshake” was the highlight of the album for me. It’s the closest thing here to a traditional song without sacrificing the band’s identity. The bass, percussion, and light guitar work create a groove that’s easy to latch onto, and the studio experimentation adds some intriguing details throughout. The whispered vocals still take some getting used to, but being the album’s shortest track works in its favour. The twenty-minute closer “Bel Air” is ambitious and certainly showcases the band’s ability to build layers and explore sound. However, despite its shifting moods and the increased energy toward the end, I never felt it did enough to justify its lengthy runtime. Like much of the album, I found it interesting without finding it engaging. I can see why this album has its audience, but I don’t think I’m part of it. The songs drift by pleasantly enough, yet there’s very little for me to grab onto emotionally, melodically, or lyrically. By the end of the album I wasn’t frustrated or challenged—I was simply indifferent. Future Days exists in a musical space that clearly resonates with some listeners, but after spending time with it and Can’s previous work, I’ve realized that space just isn’t for me. 1.4/10

not really sure what the genre is for this one, but I didn't like it. Really nothing on here that I enjoyed

Ok background music.. but otherwise.. what?

What. Was. That?

Nee, ist nichts!

I just couldn’t get into this.

These long - super long- tracked conceptual albums don't do anything for me. I was bored and just waiting for it to end. Is its reason for being on 1001 that the tracks are just so damn long? 1/5

I wasn't sure what i was listening to. It was okay.

Can........Cannot. As in I cannot listen to this trash.

This was just shit. Nothing there. Random noise. Just bad.

Trash.

wow. How high do you have to be to even begin to think this is worth a shit? -1

This was horrible. It was so bad I might skip every future krautrock album

No me gusto. Casi todo el disco suena igual no hay ninguna variación y casi que no hay letra.

Just kind of … long tracks of noise?

Present crap

1 - not for me

Not my types of music at all

Ich: „Ist das Kunst oder kann das weg?“ Can: Number 9, Number 9, Number 9,…“

What was in the air and water in the 70s besides pure crack that made people create such long ass songs? By the time a semblance of music actually appears, I feel like I’ve gone through three divorces, five kids, and four jobs. This is just sounds? And yeah, I know music is just sounds, but it also has to have some, I don’t know, musicality to it? These songs feel like the background sounds they use in films. Not background music. Background sounds. So picture this. It’s an action movie. The first song sets the scene. Our main guy is relaxing, living his best life. He’s rich, handsome, all women fight to the death over him. He’s out in town trying to get with one of these said women. He’s at a bar. He sees her and falls in love because she’s not like other girls. She isn’t giving him attention, which means he’s gotta have her. She gives him a look that lasts two seconds too long and leaves. He quickly stands up, forcefully smashing his whiskey on ice on the countertop. He rushes outside in hopes of finding her. The end of that first song is playing as he pushes through the crowd. He finally sees her. He reaches out his hand, but right when he’s about to touch her shoulder, he’s swallowed by the crowd. Unbeknownst to him, this was a setup. He realizes he is actually being dragged away, and since he is in such a big crowd, no one notices anything suspicious. He’s been blindfolded. As the blindfold is taken off and he opens his eyes, he realizes that he has no idea where he ended up or how much time has passed. Everything is dark. He can only tell he is in some sort of warehouse. As he tries to make out his surroundings, a silhouette appears in the corner of his eye. It’s the woman he saw at the bar. This whole thing was a trap, he thinks to himself. The boss makes himself visible as well. He tells our protagonist that he has been chosen. He is the one that’s going to help them with their investigation. He’s the only one that could do it. Why, you may ask? It’s never explained. It’s irrelevant. He’s the protagonist. Why would you question the logic of this movie? The rest of the song plays as the plan and its details are explained. We skip a little bit so we can get to the next song. They are in the van, waiting for the museum thieves to appear. Of course it’s a heist movie. A bad one at that. For some time, nothing happens. Then, at a specific minute in the song, the thieves enter the museum. Our protagonists storm the building. A chase ensues. It goes on and on. They catch the thieves. Bla bla, unimportant. Time skip again. The last song is there just as an outro. We see our guys living the time of their lives. The main guy and that girl end up together because of course they do, even though they barely spoke throughout the entire movie and basically just hated each other the whole time. But hey, that’s the beauty of straight relationships.

👎🏻

didn't really like it

This does nothing for me.

war mir zu experimentell

The opening band the headliner loves because his buddy is the bass player.

- Mmm, verwarrend allemaal. - 0 nummers toegevoegd aan MMMM - 0 nummer al toegevoegd aan MMMM

Anxiety-inducing experimental bing bong oo ah. Not my cup of tea at all.

Music in the loosest possible sense of the word. Wanted to pierce my own eardrums after two songs.

If the words “experimental” and German” are in the same sentence and don’t put the fear of God into you… well, it should.

What even is this?

Too prog. Not enough rock

Not my vibe

Count me out. I did not really like anything about this album.

Some lengthy intensive, improvised grooves from Can just don't really do it for me. The wide musical influences are interesting/quirky but aren't enough to make songs, which usually isn't the point of avant garde or experimental music.

Cover Art Review - Minimalist - two colors, purple and gold - regal choice. Art Deco-ish with a naturalist vibe. Some weird runes to make you wonder. 7.2/10 Musically - pretty out there. Love the electronica. not personally a big fan of the chanting/singing when occurring. Nice background music - maybe it is innovative for being fairly early electronica experimental, but didn't grab me.

Kinda dig the atmospheric vibe, but can't really stand the weird 60s-did-too-much-LSD-style breakdown towards the end. Go away.

It is odd to find an album that is as boring as it is annoying, but this album accomplishes that. 2 star or F.

This was better than Revolution 9 by the Beatles

Hey! So this sucks

What the fuck did I just listen to? How is 41 minutes of '70's B movie backing music an essential album? Next...

Achei chatinho

WTF was that? I honestly feel like I listened to a different album than everyone else. Is this 5-star hype part of some inside joke no one told me about?

Unique

No la verdad q no

Steely Dan-ish

God no

Space Rock with seamless, atmospheric flow and textural layering.

When do they stop warming up?

A 40 minute album with 4 songs....not an auspicious beginning. This sucks, I can tell one minute in this is going to be a one star album. Background noise and accordion on an album?!? It's too good to be true. I bet they used Future Days as placeholder music for the theme music of PeeWee's Playhouse. This is more like a jazz album than anything. If your album/band has the following words often associated with it I am probably not going to like it: experimental, avant garde, art, noise, found sound. This is still not the worst thing I've heard, at least the second song is mostly music, but it is still terrible. Moonshake is the best song simply because it's the only song under 8 minutes. It is also the best song anyway. Bel Air is like the soundtrack to a detective-themed porn movie from the 70s. No one actually likes this. These guys heard Sun Ra and thought he was a little too weird.

This album was just bizarre and I'm shocked I got through this. It was just noise. And why are each of the "songs" so long? A 20-minute "song" to close out the album..?? I have no idea why this is on the list. I'm glad this one is over. 1/5.

שולח אותי לרישיקש

למה כל שיר עשר דקות של אינסטרמנטלי

This is, by far, the WORST ALBUM I have ever listened to. This is 41 minutes I will never get back in my life. This is horrible, avant-garde garbage in a music costume. This album and any works by this band belong on the "Never Listen" list, not 1001 albums you must listen to. This album should come with a warning that it has the musical qualities of a pack of cats being run over by a steamroller, accompanied by 1000 toddlers banging on various preschool instruments randomly. If I could rate this a zero, I would. My Rating: 1/5

As I progress through the list the less tolerant of shit like this I become.

honestly just 40 minutes of weird noises and ridiculously long songs

1. future - 1 2. zpray - 1 3. moon - 1.5 4. air - 1.5

Song: Future days the start was scary and i could barely hear the singer i only heard the beat Song: Moonshake this song i like better a little bit Song: bel air this song isnt really my favorite i do not recommend this album

I don't like it because the song sounds weird and I like to hear people singing you could barely hear them and they sound weird . I do not recommend it .

0 i dont like it cause no lyric sencond one i dont the vibes the third one i just not my style

Spray is just an unsettling song. I feel like I’m waiting for something to happen this whole album. Listening to bel-air and the only thing I can think is I just want this to be over and I can’t believe there is another 13 minutes to go

Not my cup of tea, could barely hear the vocals.ok

No I can definitely have gone my whole life without hearing this. I find this list has some seriously glaring omissions in exchange for inclusions like this.

Was Yoko Ono available to take over the lead vocals when Suzuki quit?

At times like this I have to relate with the Grinch. This is just noise, noise, noise. Please make it stop. Don't make me steal Christmas.

Not for me.

I just don't get it...

Wtf was that shit?

The shaggs male version

Mostly ambient noise. Didn’t work for me

p293. 1973. 1 star. 70s ambient jazz-rock with multiple 8+ minute tracks and a 19+ minute monstrosity to end with. Fuck no. Previous collaborations between Germany and Japan did not end well either.

A mish mash of random sounds and music beds. Someone recorded their kids playing with the stock sounds of their electronic keyboard and made an album with it.

This might be the worst album I’ve ever listened to cover to cover. The last song was a disaster and waste of 20 minutes of my lifd

just noise to me no favorites sadly

Não estava na vibe de ouvir

This. Bad. Trip. Does. Not. End. Best track is Moonshake because it is short.

just can’t give it more than one star

this is a chore. No thank you.

Fav: Spray Least Fav: Bel Air I totally get why this album was on the list, and I definitely agree that it’s worthy of being on the list, but it’s just not for me at all

It turns into background music which then turns into nothing. Music isn’t meant to be nothing but Can sure made it happen

Only moonshake is good. REST 4 SONGS WHY TF IS IT 40 MINS AAND WHY TF IS ONE SONG 19 MINS

not my style of music, didn't enjoy

Schwierig, mir zu anspruchsvoll.

Nothing of this album caught my ear. Not even sure I can explain why I didn’t like it, but I didn’t. Listen again: no Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: none

This is like what free jazz probably sounds like to people who don’t get free jazz, except it’s not jazz

Trippy radio 6 style weirdness.

All I CAN say is: * CANNOT figure out the genre * CANNOT understand the lyrics * CANNOT say I liked it or disliked it I'd had enough when the COLOGUARD advert came on to end it. 1.5 / 5

Too experimental and random. 1/5

no, song 3 is ok.

Garbage. Sounds like trashing the camp from Tarzan

Too experimental for me

Satanic! Yuck

What the fuck you call this an album?

I hate this stupid band. I don't know if I'd call it pretentious but it'd annoying. Not all weird shit is bad but it's definitely not necessarily a plus either. Please, no more albums from them. 2 is way too many. Actually 1 is too many and that is what it gets. Bleh.

This wasn’t it. Too psychedelic. Vibey ish, but weird long songs about nothing

Not really my vibe

There were more mind-blowing elements in the other Can offering on this list. I found this album to be a poor man’s Gorillaz, unadorned by rap or the electronic treasures of the 21st century. Interesting but unrealised. A rap outro could’ve saved this, I think, but of course, it wasn’t really on offer in 1973.

More noise than music, 1/10

Not really into the long jam band type of music. Found this one to be boring.

boring, no

why o why

What was this?

Too experimental for me

I mean it was interesting but unbelievably tedious

Kilinkolin itsellesi.

No can do.

20 minutes for one track is fucking obscene and inexcusable.

WTF was that. we've reached the modern abstract art category. decent background movie tracks i suppose. probably super innovative in some musical theory sort of way. a top 1001 album of all time? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what the fuck even is that

Heel vermoeiend

Wikipedia tells me that Future Days distinguishes itself as the group's "most weightless achievement, perpetuum mobile, solar-powered in an eternal peach sunset, skipping over the tips of green coastal sierras, gulping lungfuls of delicious air." The description is randomly assorted words to which we are supposed to attribute meaning, much like this album is a bunch of random sound bits strung together to make "songs".

This album is sneaky bad. I can listen to any 5 minute section and it’s OK…a three star experience. But then you string them all together and realize this album stands for nothing. At least screamo or improvisational jazz (I hate both) have a point of view. There is no point of view on this album. Maybe a nihilistic one? One positive for this album is that it taught me that antagonism is the opposite of synergism. The sum of the parts is most definitely worse than their individual contributions. If this is what our future days sound like, I’m out.

Went on for ages, was a bit strange, very much dragged with the last song

Too weird.

Is it the shimmering in "Spray" that has the critics all abuzz at the genius behind this album? I get that it's why they got it but I'm not getting it. Get it? The best song on the album is also the shortest song on the album.

Fucking awful.

Awfully dull

Nope. I skipped through it. I’m sure it influenced someone. I’m glad they were better.

It was fine. Just a bunch of nice

I didn’t like it

Just trash.

Horrible

humm, not my cup of tea

Not my cup of tea

really bad instrumental music

Next....

Why Why Why would you waste your time making this....it was rubbish (there was a minute with just birds chirping WTF!!)

I guess if you’re into boring pointless soundscapes this could be good

Not my thing

Very bad

be more interesting sry

Tyhjänpäiväistä jumittelua. En saanut tästä mitään irti. Yhden kerran kuuntelin läpi ja toisella kerralla kolme ensimmäistä raitaa, mutta ei alkanut aueta sen enempää.

This album definitely sounds ahead of its time, but is not something I can see myself returning to/seeking out for future listens.

Why tf ist das ein Album, das man gehört haben sollte?

ack,ew

BORING
