It typified the era but was nothing I would readily recommend
Very innovative and catchy tunes. As always expect the unexpected from Jack and Meg. Fun and provocative.
It is a blended and exceptional album. Song styles range from remnants of Dire Straits to Bob Dylan. Sound blending is amazing and it is worth a listen time and again.
It was fine for heading down memory land but it did not hold up over time.
Reminded me of the uniqueness of Ozzy, a great pioneer with an incredible voice and sense of humor.
Brilliant from beginning to end.
It has it’s place for being a vanguard punk forerunner but does not equate to being on this list.
I have talked about and listened to this amazing musical work for years and to put it bluntly if I could only take five albums with me to hear for the rest of my life, this would be my first pick. It reverberates from beginning to end and will last through the ages.
Great album that capitalizes on great guitar playing, fun songs, and an easier time of life. Almost captures a live Van Halen performance.
While it had a few good songs, the album was all over the place and I found it to be a weak link to the overall magnificent music the Byrds produced.
I have been listening to music all of my life and this was the first time I heard this band. Quite innovative and fun. Combined a big band sound with great pop lyrics. A little redundant at times but overall a great catch.
It does not get much better. Classic rock guitar playing heroes that will live on forever. ZZ will never be eliminated.
One of my favorites of all time and a great prequel to the Miseducation of Lauren Hill which is up there with Songs In The Key of Life. Playful and powerful raps that touch the soul. As I listened to this wonderful record again, it dawned on me that this album set the tone and was replicated in one fashion or another many times. Not going to convince me that Lin Manual Miranda did not have the Fugees in mind when he created Hamilton.
It was interesting and had some new vibes that I had not encountered before. Reminded me at times of Joy Division with a bit more pop attached. Fun but not a repeat listen.
I enjoyed it, especially the first song, but do not feel the band settled into a musical style that was clear and identifiable. At times they sounded like Bowie, and than got very :poppy", and over the course of the album I started to drift as I could not center on the bands perspective and where they wanted to go with their music. With that being said, the first song is catchy and a lot of fun.
Smashing Pumpkins are a band that is here to stay. Lyrical and raw music that is original and stands on its own. Only thing better than listening to Smashing Pumpkins in whatever format suits you, is seeing the band perform live. Easily makes the cut as being one of the greatest blended hard core albums of all times.
Here goes-that album was absolutely awful and leads me to think that AI is generating this list. There have been some greats so far, but this was nothing but fast babble that I will not listen to again.
Loved this album from the first time I heard. Captured the heart and soul of those who struggle and reminded me of a Steinbeck novel. Fast Cars is the crowd pleaser but there are multiple great songs captured on this one. Was happy to see Luke Combs recognized and brought Fast Cars back to life.
It does not get any better than the King of the Blues. Every note hits perfection on this captivating live album.
It was fine but I am not sure why it made the list. Nice background music that incorporated world music but not something I would be likely to listen to again.
I grew up listening to Sly and his cutting edge music. When he first hit the scene there had been nothing like him before. Borrowing from funk, rock and a big band sound, he created a genre all his own. Shaped the future of music in so many ways. I love the album Stand. It rocks until the last two songs which I think via the instrumental moves us away from the rapid pulse and protest of the earlier songs. For this reason, I am rating this one a 4.
This album is a must for this list. It is the start of what becomes a very varied style across albums for the Beatles and contains the song Michelle, one of the most beautiful love songs ever written, as well as Norwegian Wood, a titillating ballad that set the Paul Anca fans off the rails. An amazing album that I continue to frequently listen to.
Amazing album and one I am consistently drawn back to. One great song after another by the musician's musician. Van Morrison is an incredible talent. Nothing beats Into the Mystic.
Another amazing pick. Nothin gets better than Stairway to Heaven and the entire album could play as the soundtrack to the Lord of the Rings. The guitar playing of Page, and the singing of Plant at both their primes. What can beat that? Nothing!
First time I heard this album and I was impressed. Very blended sound and I was not able to identify what decade it was from. Enjoyable and creative sound.
A very interesting album that did not hold my attention throughout. Much preferred the collaboration of Ladysmith and Paul Simon. Incredible talent that failed to stir.
A bit long but a beautiful concept album that illustrates the writing and musical skills of the man who was the heart and soul of the Beatles.
This one brings back lot of memories. It was on my turntable daily for a long time. Tina's voice is amazing from first to last cut and she captures the life of the downtrodden on Private Dancer as well as Tracy Chapman did with Fast Cars. Masterpiece of an album.
I thought it was okay, had one good song, but on the overall reminded me of a Wham cover band. Would be fine to see them to chill out in a small venue but nothing to get excited about here.
There is no such thing as a bad Beck album. He is one of the most eclectic artists out there varying his sounds from electronic to folk without a glance. Love his music but this one was not one of my favorites as no individual song sticks with me. Still he is a musical genius who deserves to be celebrated even if a beat is missed here and there.
Outstanding Album from beginning to end. Understanding the sad direction that his life took makes this album all the more poignant. An amazing song writer.
Decent quasi metal band but not something I would be a repeat listener of. Much prefer Pearl Jam and other similar types of bands who fit into this genre.
The Pet Shop Boys are a unique and fun sound and provide great listening music in the car. I just don't think that they offer music that is lasting and I think that they play to a limited listening group. Great vocals but few of their songs remain in your head once the air time is over.
An amazing early offering of the magic of Coltrane. It takes a little time for the album to build but it is one long composition that ends in a crescendo. No doubt that this is indeed one of the greatest jazz albums of all time.
This one was not an easy find but I was able to locate it on old vinyl stored in an attic and mercifully it was not warped and played very well. Made me very nostalgic for the early 60, and the chance to have seen Jerry Lee live at the height of his prowess. Amazing and gifted original rock and roller who deserves all the accolades he receives.
I like Wilco and Jeff Tweedy but I find this album to be mostly background noise. I am not sure what the band is attempting to pull off, and the music is not very good when on a long drive, as overall it becomes increasingly dull as the songs wind on.
Outstanding from start to finish. Exemplary rock album but one of the best political bands of all times. The drumming is intense and places you in the War zone. Nothing beats the opening number Sunday Bloody Sunday with a wind down that occurs on Surrender the second to last song. Amazing journey with a premier band from start to finish.
Exceptional album that was at the forefront of the Latin scene before rock and roll was really a thing. It made me want to quit my job, head to the Copa and dance the night away. Easy to see how Santana was heavily influenced by the beats on this outstanding album that should be in the Smithsonian.
I have listened to this album many times and I cannot say that I fully get it. It has made multiple top 100 album lists and has received rave reviews but the music of Frank Ocean eludes me. I find it rather droll and not very melodious and it has never been my go to. Pyramid stays in my mind as it is a tragic song about the unsexy side of stripping and the desperate measures someone will go through to put food on the table. Sierra Leonne also works but the rest of the album just drags on.
Good fun. Makes you want to dance.
There will never be another Nina Simone. Amazing vocalist who put her heart and at times her life on the line. Her music was timely, stirring, risk taking and will never be forgotten. It is also sultry as hell.
Very good and worth a listen.
The Temptations were the best of the Motown era and this early album helped launch their career. A Cloud Nice of a production from start to finish.
Some good songs but not one of my favorite Taylor Swift albums. Does not hold up to Red by any means.
Amazing and a forerunner for the great jazz and R&B that was to follow. This album was early in Ms. Vaughan's decades long career and one knows from the first listen that she would be here to stay.
A fun group with a number of great songs. Saw them several times as an opening band before I steamed their music and found them to be quite entertaining. Odd name for a really solid emo band.
The work of a genius is an understatement. Amazing from start to finish and I never felt blue. Remarkable and life enhancing work from a man who was often angry, except for when he got into his Zen and played for all mankind.
Not going with this one. The opening song Kicks is the only one that slightly holds up due to some nostalgia. The rest of this album showcases mediocre talent and a lead singer who can't hold a note. Does not belong on any lists of great albums.
I would rate this one as ambient music which is how I feel about most of Brian Eno's work. It is catchy for a time but over the course of an album, I find his music to become background music and it is certainly not where I go to enhance a mood. Great composer who I enjoyed more when he played with Roxy Music.
Certainly a rock classic with some great songs but just not in the same league as classic bands like Zepplein,
It was pretty decent easy listening metal. Not quite up there with Richie B and Rainbow but the lead did have a solid voice and the tempo was driving.
Not sure why it is on the list. A well known session musician but I found the album to be rather obtuse and not really worth a listen. Did not have catchy Afro or Latin beats.
Enjoyed it. Reminded me of the Clash but with not the same bite. Fun but will probably not return for another listen.
Superb from beginning to end. Great songs with social conscience. This one should make the top 100 list of all times.
It was fun. Reminded me of the Clash a bit but not quite as good. Certainly worth a listen.
Honestly, I have no clue as to how this album made the list. It was primarily noise and it was not ambient noise. Limited coherence throughout. Not something I will recommend or listen to again.
Not impressed. Emo band that does not have a vibe and is not in the same league as The Cure. Not impressed.
Outstanding start to finish.
Why was this on the list? Just noise, that does not qualify as ambient.
No doubt this is a groundbreaking album that assisted Gangster rap assessing the mainstream Risk taking and with great beats. With that said the anger expressed is not what I feel I need to listen to in these troubling times.
Even if this is not up to the standards of War, it is still an amazing listen. Some stellar moments on this opus. One is a standout on its own.
I had never listened to The Specials from beginning to end on any album and I really enjoyed this. Had the British Jamaican music combo going and it worked and was a enjoyable to listen to.
The album starts off with the song Shaft, one of the greatest R$B and movie songs of all time. The rest of the album does not quite hold up and by the end it started to sound like lounge music.
Enjoyed it. Iggy does the grunge better than anyone else.
I have always found the Cocteau Twins to have great harmony but to be essentially background music. Not a fan.
Honestly, it was awful. Just noise.
Not one of their best and nowhere near the quality of Avalon. Was not a fan of this disconnected series of songs. Not worth a second listen.
It was fun, upbeat and different. Great musicians in a step away from mainstream music of the times and well done.
Awesome piece of music and she did it all before the Lion King which is infused with her sounds and Ladysmith Black Mombasa. Many of the rifts used by Peter Seeger and early folk heroes were predated by this wonderful forerunner who put Afrobeat on the map. Outstanding.
I recommend skipping this one. Attempted to cross into a number of genres and there are many bands in these genres that override what was essentially a lot of noise.
Not my favorite Ray Charles album but with that being said one can never go on listening to his raspy voice, amazing piano playing, and superb orchestral accompaniment. One of the greats of all time.
It was a decent listen. Morrissey always challenges and it is hard to get past his perspectives and politics but no doubt he is a great singer.
Ravi Shankar is one of the greatest musical influencers and performers of all times. The Beatles and many other 60's performers utilized his sound and the world is better for it. Phenomenal album composed by a phenomenal musician and humanitarian.
At first I was taken aback by the meandering dialogue but by the time the album ended it was full out dance time.
Amazing from start to finish. Unique and challenging. Radiohead always delivers.
Not impressed. Really thought that Tiny Tim was the lead vocalist.
Great riffs that lend expression to those that society has held down but not something I will return again and again to listen to. Provocative stuff that I do not usually choose to listen to that is painful but well executed. An important record and social commentary.
Not up there with The Bends and OK Computer but still Radiohead which makes it worth a listen from time to time.
Has there been a Black Sabbath album that does not rate a 5? One of the most entertaining and challenging sounds to hit the turntables. An amazing debut that spoke to greater things to come.
I very much enjoyed it. Great songwriter with some awesome musical collaborations. Superbly produced.
Did not like it at all. A lot of noise and not worth the time.
One of the best metal bands of all time and this album proves it. Listen to it frequently and never bored.
Not trying to be snide but I have no idea how this album made the list. It was awful from the first cut to the last. Not surprised I never heard of them. Cross this one off the list.
A phenomenal album by an incredible band that continues to be politically relevant.
I enjoy the police but this album is not their best. Great start with Message In the Bottle but too much random jazz towards the end.
Not impressed much. Grade B version of Leonard Cohen and other poet songwriters.
It does not get any better than this ultimate Blues/Rock band. Amazing album plum full of amazing music.
Loved this album in the 90's but it has not fully held up. Still enjoyable but not a masterpiece.
It was quite good and had a solid alt 90's sound. Interesting and fun to listen to.
George Jones sang the saddest, heart grabbing Country tunes of all time. Musical giant whose legacy will remain.
I tend not be a huge heavy metal fan but Korn is King in this genre. Strong metal rifts and you can understand the lyrics. One of the great bands for those who like to be fully energized.
Very good, creative and a lot of fun. Smart, cerebral and hip all at the same time. Superb.
One of the two greatest folk singers of all time to come out of the 60's and still be going. An artist I listen to all the time and a magnificent introductory album.
Great album and introduction to a hard rock group with a profound sound that only got better over time.
Skynard and the Allman Brothers best Southern rockers of al time. But this album takes the prize from the opening song to Simple Man and the greatest country concert song of all time-Freebird. I would give this one a 10.
Good sound that was captivating when it came out and still a lot of fun to listen to
Loud and primal and exceptionally well done. Raw energy comes out of this concept album. A keeper.
I had not heard this group before and I was moderately impressed. Energetic but not too poppy sounding that reminded me of many other alt bands. The songs had some humor to them while still taking on some tough topics. I would rate this one as a 3.5
Very solid album with Yellow one of the best Coldplay songs right in the middle of the setlist. Quite enjoyable.
I enjoyed it very much. Great samba music, easy to listen to while you write.
It was fun to listen to but it not draw me in and I probably won't got to it again.
Was not really into it. For the must part, just synthetic noise.
My opinion of this group and album has changed. Originally, I like the raw sound but the more I have listened to it, I have found it to be an ode to hate and to have no redeeming value so I am dropping low on this one.
A decent album. First song is the best and sets the pace. Enjoyable but not ground breaking. Worth an occasional listen.
It is okay but a lot of other bands do the heavy music a lot better. A B level band that earns a 3.
An amazing album recorded during the tail end of the Beatles career as a band. Have listened to it many times which will continue for as long as I can hear.
Odd title for an album by a band I had never heard of and I was surprised. A broad range in musical styles across songs and solid vocals made this one a new found treat.
Great album. Black Keys have a unique sound that holds up against any band. Thoroughly enjoyable and worth multiple listens.
It was glorious and soothing from start to finish. Jazz the most intricate genre in music is exemplified by the work of Mr. Monk.
Not a fan. A lot of hype surrounds this group and I have tried to listen many times but I do not get the vibe. Good musicians but nothing that moves me.
It was very weird and I am not sure why it was recommended for a listen. Definitely a once and done for me.
It will sound redundant for each Stevie Wonder album that is presented, but the man is a child prodigy and genius who is and always will be progressive and cutting edge. Urban, beats mixed with love songs about partners and children, everything is covered. Another artist I listen to over and over again.
Have been a Leonard Cohen fan since I was a young adolescent. Soulful poet laureate who wrote some of the most intimate and mystical songs. If I could I would give all his albums a 10.
Initially based on the first cut I thought this album was going to be a bust but it really grew on me as the genres changed so much and it had a concept album feel by the end.
Really enjoy this band. Melodic and catchy music. Understated musicians who are phenomenal to listen to.
When you get past the hype and the talent displayed with the writing, one is left with a feel bad, destructive album that plays with murdering a mom and throwing her in the sea in front of her daughter. Destructive and disgusting and not worth a listen.
Best emo band of all time on the record that defines them. Understanding piece of well conceived melancholy.
A bold conceptual album that harbors some of the Police's best individual music like Every Breath You Take and Walking In Your Footsteps makes this a masterpiece slightly tamed by a horrible song such as Mother.
It was fine but nothing to write home about. For the most part rather relaxing background music.
It was absolutely awful and I am not sure how this album could make any list.
A very enjoyable concept album as is almost the case with all of the music delivered by Radiohead. Mystical, challenging and quite enjoyable.
Cutting edge music that holds up today and the anchor of the NYC punk scene. Great songs that challenged the social mores that are as fresh today as they were 50 years ago.
It was nice to listen to but not something I would return again for a long time.
Quite enjoyable and different sound than many bands I listen to. Reminded me of the Cure but less emo.
It was evident that the band had a lot of fun making this eclectic sound. Highs and lows abound but it is worth a listen to from time to time.
It is very relaxing but becomes a little repetitious as the album runs on. Come Away with Me the song elevates this album to a 4.
I enjoy Parliament but find the music to be a bit repetitious at times.
Not crazy about this one. Found the vocalists voice to be annoying and they sounded like a wannabe Pet Shop Boys. There are reasons why I never heard of them.
Liked this band and album a lot when it first came out but it has not help up that well and the song Mongoloid has become increasingly more offensive over time.
It’s Elvis the King. What’s not to like.
There is a reason Kendrick won the Pulitzer. Busting out rhymes with the best lyrics since Dylan. Captures the soul of this disrupted nation.
Excellent live album and always worth a listen.
It starts slow but quickly accelerates with many nostalgic and well written songs. Great throwback album to listen to when in a 60's mood.
Have been a Sam Cooke fan for as long as I can remember and this perfect album maximizes why.
Nice piece of listening music. Easy and soothing to write with. A bit traditional for my taste in jazz but it is still a keeper.
Not a fan. He fades his music way too much and what is with the Yoko Ono screaming that occurred? Definite example of a so so musician trying to be a hipster.
So I am from Jersey and a week does not go by that I do not tune in to Old Blue Eyes who I believe has the greatest singing voice of all time. Sad and sentimental album that I would award a 10.
One of the most gifted and angelic singers to have crossed the planet. Leonard Cohen salutes with a Halleluiah
A great one. New York alt music scene came into existence through the genius of Lou Reed, Nico and his band. Starts out with a pretty little song Sunday Morning and moves quickly into celebration of alternative lifestyles of the NYC Village scene. Solid from start to finish.
This one was a deep dive for me. I had forgotten about Joan Armatrading and how often I listened to her unique sound. Excellent album from start to finish.
One of the greatest crooners and sexual singers of all time. If Marvin Gaye does not set the mood for romance, nothing does. Outstanding, provocative and ahead of it's time. Proves intimacy can be sung about without explicitly.
Beautiful harmony and stories from master composures who will always occupy top 10 lists.
Absolutely awful. If I want to listen to Summertime Blues I go to the Who. Pure noise by a weak band that rightfully has come and gone.
Another stones gem that brightens up after the rivieting Paint It Black as an opener.
Beck is the constant innovator and he is the most varied artist on the planet. Great vibes to this one and worth multiple listens.
Seriously have no idea how this made the list. Nothing going for this one. Name fits.
It had some pizzazz and I would listen to it again.
Not one of my favorites. Tired of the cursing and rich white kids whining. Not on my radar.
