Popular Reviews

Rings Around The World by Super Furry Animals

A great lesson that talented musicians can throw everything they have into an album and write songs that suck.

Histoire De Melody Nelson by Serge Gainsbourg

Happy I listened. Fascinating album. That said, I will probably never listen again.

Okay, nothing to write home about. Can't think there is better out there.

The Doors by The Doors
Dec 13 2025

I can, of course, understand why it's here. That does not mean I should find it phonetically pleasing. It is much too plain, too dark and dismal.

Jan 28 2026

Much more interesting than other purely electronic albums that have appeared here - still quite boring. 3/5.

Goddam, too many 3's on this list. What is this, my kill count?

Scott 4 by Scott Walker
Jan 30 2026
Pictures At An Exhibition by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Feb 02 2026

This was much more fun and enjoyable to listen to than so many of these supposedly genius albums which are, in fact, nothing but droning drivel.

Excellent songwriting.

Feb 23 2026

Too bad half is on here.

Melody A.M. by Röyksopp
Mar 04 2026

Too bad, it got interesting near the end, but it took a very long time to get there.

Fisherman's Blues by The Waterboys
Mar 06 2026

One of the most pleasant surprises I've come across on this list. Phenomenal.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Mar 08 2026

Fascinating, but long. Whenever I hear improvised music, I think "this could have really used some writing and refining."

Purple Rain by Prince
Mar 11 2026

When Doves Cry is one of the best songs of all time.

Scum by Napalm Death
Mar 16 2026

As a metalhead and punk fan, this was disappointing.

Maybe I don't like punk?

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Mar 20 2026
Music by Madonna
Apr 03 2026

Listened to this after lunch on a relatively boring workday. Terrible idea. Nothing interesting at all going on here. 2/5.

War by U2
Apr 06 2026
Trans Europe Express by Kraftwerk
Apr 10 2026

DNF. I hate these guys. If there's another album from them on this list, it starts to fall apart.

Illinois by Sufjan Stevens
Apr 11 2026

I don't know if I'm doing this guy a disservice. I keep listening to his music and I feel there's something deeper there I just can't reach. My understanding of Sufjan remains superficial. Maybe I'm missing out. Maybe it's just pretentious postering.

Fire Of Love by The Gun Club
Apr 15 2026

Very interesting. Will probably never listen again.

The Who Sell Out by The Who
Apr 17 2026

The most British thing I've ever heard.

Groovin' by The Young Rascals
Apr 19 2026
Roxy Music by Roxy Music
Apr 23 2026

This list, man. It makes you wade through miles of shit and, just when you're about to give up, gives you such a pleasant surprise that it almost makes you forget you had to listen to three Kraftwerk albums to get here.

Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair
Apr 27 2026

The world is so full of wonderful things, not least of which are people so different from me that they listened to this album and gave it five stars. Their reality is so different than mine that I can't really imagine it. That said, this fucking sucked.

The Bends by Radiohead
Apr 28 2026

Like every other Radiohead album - fine, I guess.

Liquid Swords by GZA
Apr 29 2026

Ehh whatever. Disappointing. 2/5.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
May 02 2026

Should be higher than 3, but for the sake of consistency, this is what it has to be. 3.5/5

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
May 05 2026

I just can't get into these guys.

Kind Of Blue by Miles Davis
May 06 2026

Music is subjective.

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
May 07 2026

Hell yeah dude \m/

Kings Of The Wild Frontier by Adam & The Ants
May 10 2026

This sure is an album. Very apposite for a list that should be called "1001 albums"

90 by 808 State
May 13 2026
A Seat at the Table by Solange
May 15 2026

A pleasant surprise. The list should be more like this, rather than "albums you've never heard of because they absolutely suck."

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
May 16 2026

Should be a bonus point for licking fly as fuck on the album cover.

The Slider by T. Rex
Jun 03 2026

Hell yeah. So fun.

Vivid by Living Colour
Jun 04 2026
All Hope Is Gone by Slipknot
Jun 05 2026

How fascinating that this list is full of review criticizing the sonic qualities of this album when, so far, it's one of the only entries in the entire list with any melody at all. In terms of musicianship, which should be the entire analysis, these guys are worlds better than anything Bjork or Kraftwerk could ever dream of. I don't care at all how "avant grade" or "experimental" those other albums were, this stuff is raw, primal, music. The list should be more like this, and less improvised brit pop telling the story of some guy growing up in the projects in Gloucester. That's a long winded way of saying: "Lot of fucking nerds here. This shit bangs. 4/5 because there are much better metal bands, but beggars and choosers."

Viva Hate by Morrissey
Jun 07 2026

Goddam this is so boring.

Jun 08 2026

DNF. Can't do more brit pop, I just can't do it, oh God make it stop, they all sound the same, they all sing about phalluses, please let it end.

Parachutes by Coldplay
Jun 09 2026

I looked at myself in the mirror and realized I was that guy who said "everyone who thinks Coldplay is a shit band is a fucking idiot" and instantly blew my brains out. I am writing this review as a spectre to say that anyone who gets that defensive about this four chord piece of overhyped trash should listen to someone do a musical scale and have an out of body experience about how many notes exist. This is the epitome of "it's alright".

Life Thru A Lens by Robbie Williams
Jun 10 2026

Didn't this guy canonically turn into a monkey?

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Jun 12 2026
Car Wheels On A Gravel Road by Lucinda Williams
Jun 18 2026

Honestly the biggest head scratcher so far. I might have to buy this book to understand why in the world anyone would put this on the list. I sincerely don't get it.

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Jun 25 2026

Maybe it'll get to four. I have to listen to it again while I'm not working. I'm more of a melody man, but there is something here.

Jun 27 2026

What an unbelievable run of songs. Guy was just a kid, but his music seems to reach some mystical place where the songs are discovered rather than written. Crazy. Voice sucks but hey man, so does mine.

Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
Jun 28 2026

What a snooze fest.

GI by Germs
Jul 09 2026

Man this is PUNK

Wild Wood by Paul Weller
Jul 12 2026

I might have to get the book so I can understand the rationale for some of these albums being included. Perhaps there was a category for best super market background album? Even then, it's hard to believe this was the best.

Devotional Songs by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
Jul 13 2026

Couldn't do it, just couldn't do it today

The Rising by Bruce Springsteen
Jul 17 2026

Impossibly long.

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
Jul 19 2026

It's too bad. A select few of these songs are great. They're unfortunately surrounded by songs which are not so great.

Oar by Alexander 'Skip' Spence
Jul 20 2026
Bitches Brew by Miles Davis
Jul 21 2026

Just write a damn song.

Jul 22 2026

There are so many better metal albums out there, it's too bad thrash gets a place of prominence on this list.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Jul 23 2026

This is a really long time to wait at the pharmacy

Central Reservation by Beth Orton
Jul 24 2026

There are two versions of the same song on this album. Like all songs, it was so forgettable that I forgot anything about how it sounded when it came around the second time. Just awful.

1999 by Prince
Jul 25 2026
Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jul 29 2026

So nice, I had to listen to it twice. What a voice.

Bluesbreakers by John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers
Jul 30 2026

This racist is really good at guitar.

Next by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Aug 12 2026
Bongo Rock by Incredible Bongo Band
Aug 14 2026

Incredibly fucking weird.
