weird vibes… i didn’t get it
Not listening. Used to love this but Win Butler is a giant creep.
Not my style.
Forced quirkiness and an attempt at lofi without really committing. Checking alt boxes without really doing anything authentically or really well.
Boring
Meh. Twangy. Not a fan.
Eclectic artsy, rock, and alt.
There’s just something about this style of vocalist that I dislike heavily.
Tem alguma coisa no instrumental, não sei exatamente dar nome, essas coisinhas de indie, q hj em dia não me agradam
I was not interested in this at all. 1/5
Didn’t listen. Not my style
christ almighty... at least now i know what it was like to sit in a hipster cafe for 50 minutes in 2004. (despise the album art btw)
Dear Mr. Dimery, We get it. You like Arcade Fire. It's your book and you can do what you want with it. But, of all the recordings made in the past 74 years, you felt the need to include no less than THREE Arcade Fire albums? Even AF themselves probably don't think they are that important. And I'm guessing that they are some real pretentious, self-absorbed fucks. Do better, Bob. Do better. One half-star. Bumped up from a zero because I once pretended to like this album to impress a girl. It worked and I never had to listen to it again.
Only liked two songs, Kettles and Wake Up. The album was quite irritating, wanted to skip a lot of it. Sounded like a lot of songs belonged in tv/film. 1/5
I was just hoping for some sort of melody or hook or something, but, alas, it’s just looping shit with whining vocals, like Radiohead.
Not my style, too loud
Couldn’t even finish it. Whiney as fuck, with an underlying hint of sexual predation and narcissism.
No me gustó
Meh. Lead singers voice was a little annoying for me.
fuck these guys
I've tried with this band a few times over the years and have never come close to connecting with this music in any way. It's hard to explain. Complex and dense, dramatically building... this should be right up my alley. I actually end up hating this album. I think it's a combination of the vocals (always) and yet more something/everything with the arrangements and/or mix. It's all so dense (and unclear) that it becomes impersonal and bland to the point of having no personality whatsoever. You often can't single out particular instruments - it just becomes an Arcade Fire Sound which ...ehh... credit to them I guess; that should be the dream of every act - develop your own unique sound. It's just too much and in a weird roundabout way leaves me at best devoid of absolutely any emotion while listening to them and quickly devolves into irritation. It's a weird dichotomy that I can on one hand appreciate the craft that went into each of these tracks (which all sound like 1 long slightly annoying emotional "journey") and on the other at the same time feel like I'm being forced to watch some overwrought Netflix 3 part documentary on *tragedy-followed-by-searching-for-myself-through-van-life-through-the-prairies* - goodgodman. Can I call this music pretentious? It's terribly terribly uninteresting while still being ponderous. It's just not ever happening Arcade Fire. We just need to see other people. Lose my number please and don't call again. ...I'd been hanging on a 2 rating until the last few songs and have long resisted giving 1s to something that's at least creative and talented, not lo-fi, etc, but this is just irritating to the point where it's no longer tolerable passive music. If it were a 7 song EP it'd be a 2 but the nerve of injecting themselves into my earholes for nearly an hour - the sheer audacity - goddammit take the 1. 3/10 1 star.
Neighborhood 1: Tunnels- 🤮 Neighborhood 2: Laika- 🤮 Une Annee Sans Lumiere- 🤔🤷♂️ Neighborhood 3: Power Out- 😴 Neighborhood 4: 7 Kettles- 😴🥱 Crown Of Love- 🤔🙂 Wake Up- 🤮😴 Haiti- 🤔 Rebellion Lies- 😐 In the Backseat- 🤮🤮🤮 Half of the songs were like 5 minutes long and had 90% instrumental. Vocals weren’t very good either. Overall not good/ would never listen to. :( 1/10
Yoa
Did not like this album
More boring 2000's music
crap
Terrible. Novelty music.
Very Arcade Fire. Kind of all the same. No memorable melodies. I feel like I am supposed to really like Arcade Fire but … meh.
Least favourite band in the world for me (in other words, havent heard a bigger carp than this)
Alright, unpopular opinion here, considering the accolades this band has received…I don’t get it. I remember reading something a long time ago about how they are the highest awarded or selling or something, and I tried to give a few songs a listen and didn’t enjoy it. I thought since a few years have passed, and my musical taste had grown, maybe I’d understand it now. I gave the album two full listens and I’m still lost. I don’t see anything special about any of it, and actually wanted to turn it off multiple times, but figured I HAVE to be missing something. I still don’t get it hahaha. Listen again: nope Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: In the Backseat (only because of a few riffs mid song. The whining is annoying).
not a fan of sexual assault, or the music
Not for me. Singer sounds very whiny.
Some of the worst of 2000s indie rock. This is The Lumineers for people who think they are too cool for The Lumineers. Bad art masquerading as good art. Go find something else, really anything else to listen to. You ain’t missing anything here.
Again, can't rate the music high because of the disgusting person in this band.
This album is so smooth, you probably wouldn't notice if it let your daughter in backstage and took advantage of her age and power dynamic. Oh wait, that's Win Butler, not the album. Super hard not to intermingle the uncoolness of the recent allegations against Butler by four fans aged 18-23 versus the album. Butler's statement to Pitchfork is pretty pathetic: "I’m sorry I wasn’t more aware and tuned in to the effect I have on people - I fucked up, and while not an excuse, I will continue to look forward and heal what can be healed, and learn from past experiences." So for that reason, I say boycott AF. And just in case that seems flippant, I recently refunded two nights of tix for their DC show.
The only reason I am listening to this album is because it's on this list. I'm not sure why the creators of this list like Arcade Fire so much, but oy. Same issues as the previous Arcade Fire album. It sounds like it's out of the 70s and trying to be Pink Floyd... and while that's fine music, I'm just not into it. I can forgive the 70s stuff because it was new at that time, but this is in the mid-00s. I don't understand why they're continuing to use this sound.
Dull. Boring. Did not like AT ALL. all the songs sound alike, in fact they sound like 1990s teenage boy music desire being a 2006 album. Vocals were dreadful, music was a drone.
I just don’t understand this disc. I find it dead boring. There’s the odd instrumental flourish, but I really can’t stand the lead vocalist’s voice. Can’t really find anything positive to say about it.
Arcade fire is not it
Please do not take my review into account, as I am just not a huge fan of Arcade Fire. I know that they are popular, but they are not my cup of tea.
pff, de stem zeurt nogal
Boring, mellow alt-folk rock.
Nope
I think I am not the target demographic of this. I wouldn't really care if someone had a song or two on their playlist on a long car ride, but I'm just not really a fan.
I know of these guys but don't think I've ever listened to them. Heard only good things. This really isn't for me though. Appreciate that it's a bit different and therefore maybe less accessible on first listen. Feels like a 2 so far. Recognise the track Rebellion. But even listening to that I'm just really not bothered about it, actually it's pretty shite. Not sure how these guys are well rated. Might even give it a 1.
