Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Just not my kind of music. The songs were boring and dragged on. 2/5 Won’t listen again
It is like watching tv and then without doing anything you slowly start to tune it out
It feels at first like decent instrumental and composition. But it doesn't hook, and I don't care for the timbre of the vocals. Meh.
I really don't understand this. Why is it on the list?
It's not bad, but there are tons of bands that do a similar sound better. The lyrics feel like they're trying too hard to be deep.
wasnt bad but not necessarily something I am drawn to listen to. Slightly slow. 2
Genuinely uninteresting
Previously rated: The Suburbs (3/5) ********************* Not terrible music, but it's just so generic and forgettable. What do they have against guitar solos or drum fills? All I remember from listening to it yesterday was a whistling tea kettle and a song with strings. I didn't remember anything from the other album either. Arcade Fire makes music that is just there. It doesn't really do anything, and it doesn't do anything for me. Normally I'd give an album like this a 3 like I did The Suburbs, but that generic-ness just annoys me into dropping it a star.
Not to my taste, disliked the male vocalist's voice in particular
Not more Arcade Fire ......
Found this one pretty bland
5.5/10 dull again.
This came out when I was twenty. It was overhyped then, it remains overhyped now. Just a bunch of maudlin, navel gazing, fluff. Nothing interesting musically. Lyrically equivalent of a suburban teenagers diary, which, I guess is the point, but it does nothing for me. Cliché after tired cliché.
Sad boi music but weird makes sense its canadien. Fav songs tunnels and in the backseat
Not bad but not my usual vibe
Hmmm yeah idk. Just for how big of an explosion this band had I’ll give it a 3. However, let’s subtract 1 because I think they screwed up the indie band influence for a while there
Meaningless is the only word that comes to my mind when listening to this. I see what they were trying to do but they really didn't hit the spot. Seems like the band you really want to like but simply can't. Unfortunately it's absolutely not memorable. I almost had a hard time listening through the whole thing.
This is really not my cup of tea. The whole album sounds kind of pretentious, as if the band wanted to appear sophisticated, without really being so. And above all is the wailing voice of the singer, who always sounds like he's in sever pain. Personally, I don't really see, why this album was so well received when it first came out. It's neither something new, nor something special
A few good ones but not really my thing
Anthemic, again! This is the 3rd AF, I've had pop up. I'm still struggling with getting to like them. I'm sure they're great live.
I could not wait for this to be over, from about song 2. I hate to rate it so low because I think this is more personal preference than a comment on it's quality, but I found this super annoying.
Step 1 - listen to The Moon and Antarctica. Step 2 - ignore that you don't have Modest Mouse's sense of bizarre whimsy or ability to mold atonality. You just have a singer with a squeaky voice. Try to be like Modest Mouse anyway, Step 3 - ????? Step 4 - profit Arcade Fire has always seemed like the band you are supposed to admire. I try, I really do. But I'm not sold on the quietly restrained, driving eighth notes, supposedly building up to something that never quite gets there. And I have this sinking feeling that this and The Suburbs aren't the only albums of their waiting on the list to disappoint us . . .
Not a fan of Win's voice. Music is interesting, but replay attraction is low.
Not really my type of music it's too twee Rebellion is ok in small doses.
it was fine. i wouldn’t be mad if you put this on but i wouldn’t care about it either could i write poetry to this? n
Meh
Meh
It just felt like music my mom would play in like 2014 or something. I did not listen to the whole thing.
Objectively a pretty decent album, I’ve just never really liked this style/phase of music and I hope it doesn’t ever regain popularity. For me it lives in that world of stomp clap Mumford and lumineers and it just doesn’t work for me. But it is a decently made album. The drums in track one feel distractingly terrible to me but they didn’t bother me on the rest of the record
Not my style
Not my music. A bit boring...
This felt try-hard when I was 25 and it still does 20 years later.
Kedelig første halvdel. Muligvis acquired taste. Jeg bliver ikke fan af det her album. Rebellion lies er fed, men ikke ventetiden værd.
Wie Talking Heads, aber durch den Lead-Sänger hektischer. Trtzdem finden sich coole Lieder!
Meh
Fair
I've tried to like this band and got some reason I just can't get into it. It's fine and enjoyable but just not ever memorable.
Meh. Was intrigued, but felt it underperformed.
It's got that early-mid 200s distorted vocal, pushing drums, and chugging lightly deistorted rhythm guitar. There are momentas that are really nice (the opening of Une Annee Sans Lumiere for example) but it's just not that interesting to me. The music is largely unispired and lacks anything particularly unique to peak my interest. This album just kind of happens, inconsequentially, trotting along without a care in the world to you or I. It's not bad, it's beige. Harmless, meh.
mid millennial core. 2/5 not the worst but i wouldnt listen to it again
Basic "Indie" whininess. Melodies are decent. Vocals both male and female are awful. Overwrought and dripping with sentimentality.
Wall of sound made lyrics indecipherable. Slower songs were fine.
This album is kind of just fine. The songs are okay a little bland and not to my taste. Kind of reminds me of a more boring Foals or Everything Everything
more mitski vibes? but with like crazy electric guitar backing and weird screaming vocals so no
Not my style
Was fine. A few good tracks, didn't feel the album as a whole though
Never been a fan of Arcade Fire. This didn't change that. But I may have accidentally listened twice? This felt like 2 hours, not 50 minutes. I don't think it sucks THAT bad. But it does suck.
Overall pretty boring. Would not care if I never heard it again.
I thought this album would be good, but i wouldn't know because most of this album you can't even hear the vocals. The Mixing is awful. The first song and last few songs are the only ones where its decent
while the band is admittedly very talented, this is not really my thing. i found most of the album to be kind of boring, honestly. nothing really stood out as interesting or worthwhile.
There’s just something about this band that bores me. I SHOULD like them at least somewhat but……meh? And I don’t know why other than they just don’t deliver. Always building, never really delivering. Wake Up is ok and In The Backseat is kinda nice but the rest is just so forgettable that I already forgot it all.
I was a bit disappointed there was another Arcade Fire album in here, but I gave it a shot. Still don't like them, unfortunately. Probably deserves better but not my thing.
This is the third arcade fire album in quite a short period of time and it just feels a little dated. I think it's an ok album but I think that is mostly because I was an indie teenager around when these albums were released. I still like Rebellion (lies) but the rest was meh. I think this might be the weakest one of the 3 albums.
I thought, hey great, I like Arcade Fire. Turns out no, I don't.
A relaxing listen, but not something that really grabbed my attention apart from Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out) but that track starts with some good strong instrumentation and it kept me hooked, that is until the next track came along. While not knowing their name I have heard their work before. Seems Arcade Fire did the movie score to the Joaquin Phoenix film “Her”, and with that being a film I quite enjoy then there is some stuff out there by Arcade Fire that I much prefer.
OK, now this is a strange one. The only thing I can say is I neither liked nor disliked this. There were good bits and not so bits. Part of me thinks well that means it should be a 3 then but the rest of me says if I were to do that then it would de-value all the others that I genuinely did like but only gave a 3. So there it is then 2.
Bored, but not hatred
That's deep, man
I did like Wake Up and Rebellion (Lies) but not enough to think I’d relisten to this album or even add those songs to a playlist.
Oof hard to listen to. Much prefer their later music (signs of life).
Nett. Hat immer wieder mal einen überraschenden Sprenkel drin. Erinnert mich an Patrick Wolf aber poppiger.
Meh Indie "rock"
I assume this was innovative at time of release, but it no longer feels that way. The mix makes it hard to hear the lyrics at points so it’s hard to get a clear sense of the story. Vocals are quite weak at points. Having enjoyed other Arcade Fire records I was hoping for more with this one
Two AF albums in a row! I'm in danger of becoming bored AF
This was not horrible, but I also did not find it especially memorable.
After the album, The next 5 songs played by my Spotify Algorithm: St. Vincent - Cruel Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps Elliot Smith - Son of Sam Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal The Strokes - Someday
An album I loved when it released but not so much anymore. Either my music tastes have changed or it hasn’t aged well. Still some great songs and instrumentation though.
Whole album just feels meh.
None of it was bad at all, but it was kinda just uninteresting and at parts plain boring
Not my style but I liked the instrumental bits and the beats
Not for me
Somewhat commercial. Neighborhood#1, Wake up & Haiti were familiar
Not the worst
Chill alternative rock album. It makes me feel that warm mellow feeling inside with its sweeping music and wide orchestral voices.
I don’t care for it
I remember being enthralled by Rebellion (Lies) when it first came out. This album does not hold up at all for me. I listened to it a lot when it come out, but now it is a snooze fest. It is the body complicated background music ever written. Indie Muzac.
pretty bland and boring overall, Rebellion (Lies) is the best track of the album, a little more engaging, but meh nonetheless
Le genre d'album que feldup écoute ça je suis sur Perso je suis pas trop fan mais ça passe Jdirai 2.5 mais on peut pas
Good, but unmemorable album
This album is like a bad mixture of Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand.
This is far better than Neon Bible, because at the very least it isn't boring, at least not most of the time. There are some songs I would even dare say I enjoyed here. Nothing I'd add to my personal library, but it works as an album. What irks me the most here is the singer's voice, as its not only very whiney, despite none of the songs expelling specifically sadness, but also that it just sounds like Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse but less interesting and singing songs that lend themselves far less to the voice. It makes some songs that feel like great indie rock tunes conceptually turn into songs that sound like stomp and holler shit you'd hear out of the Lumineers or some other early 2010s indie folk band no one likes. Another issue I find is a lot of songs tend to pick up and start to do something interesting like a minute too late, and the song ends up ending before the payoff really does its job. I just feel like this is almost there, and who knows, maybe if I gave this a couple more tries I'd start to like it quite a bit, but for now, I can only claim that this is ten times better than the slog that is Neon Bible. Okay, this actually got REALLY boring with the last few tracks, so it's still a two, but it slipped down a bit from that. No matter what I do not get the praise here. While we're comparing them to Modest Mouse, how does this band have three on here and Modest Mouse has zero? So weird.
Um….kinda mid
Low key - some songs are reminiscent of Bjork
Bit too “millennial” for my tastes.
9/18/2023 Arcade Fire Funeral (2004) Never listened to this one at all. Never listened to Arcade Fire at all - reading the Wikipedia, it appears that this album is regarded as one of the greatest of all time. That’s a lot of hype to live up to! 1 Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels) - lyrics are very hard to understand, the singing is kind of waily. Rhythm doesn’t seem to shake out until after the first verse. (3) 2 Neighborhood #2 (Laika) - singing modded with discordant echo. I wouldn’t say the lyrics make a lot of sense to me … in this one, the neighbors are dancing in the police disco lights, that’s not bad. In one of the later choruses, the female singer kind of shrieks like Yoko, that’s never something I enjoy. (3) 3 Une Annee Sans Lumiere - lyrics are mostly in French and from what I can tell sung in a very poor accent. You can probably tell that I am so far unimpressed with this album. Big mood change late, with fast strum guitars. I guess that was the “outro” (2) 4 Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) - the fast strum continues, a little better melody and singing this time. Ok, I take it back about the better singing. I kind of like the fast strum as a drone. Discordant string playing as a prelude to chorus, ugh. (3) 5 Neighborhood #4 (7 Kettles) - a bit folkier start. Man, some of these lyrics are dramatic - “my eyes are covered by the hands of my unborn kids”. I really can’t gather any meaning from these lyrics, not that they have to have any, just not resonating with me much. I guess I like this one a little better than the others I have heard so far? The strings are really nice, but seems like synthesizer from my reading. I guess this band probably set the stage for bands like Bon Iver and Mumford and Sons. (3) 6 Crown Of Love - old timey piano, weak singing like he’s trapped under something. Droning piano part is ok, with strings over the top. Rhymed cancer and answer in a love song, not sure how to feel about that. Big change at the 3:45 mark, didn’t care for it. I am just not connecting to this record. (2) 7 Wake Up - a bit rockier than the previous tracks, then with choral vocals (3 in unison)? Some better lyrics here too, but they kind of scream them and ruin it. “Our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up”. (3) 8 Haiti - much stronger lyrics here, partly in French. Feeling bad about what I said earlier about accents, because they apparently are French. I’ll just go with “they’re not great at singing.” The music is just a drone march, though. (3) Ending leads into next track which is supposed to be the best on the album. 9 Rebellion (Lies) - definitely their most straightforward composition on the album, still pretty drony, and not great singing. (3) 10 The Backseat - female vocals, again, sound like she might be trapped under something part of the time. Something about her singing style really irritates me. (3)
Not a fan of Arcade Fire, so I just skipped through the album.
I found this tedious, but I'll round up from 1.5.
Comically shit in some places. Pretentious in others. I’ll give it a 2 because I liked one song
Meh was ok but just did not vibe with it.
Bang average. No plans to listen again. First time ever hearing Arcade Fire. Not my thing. Best Track: Crown Of Love
Every time I played this the music just kept getting lost. Like it just drifted away in the background of my kitchen. Underwhelming
Always been on the fence with this band....lets see....
it seems like the same thing over and over again and i’m not that crazy about that particular thing
This wasn’t my cup of tea. The instruments were fine, but the singers voice just annoyed me. It wasn’t horrible, just really boring. I’m starting to wonder if I really need to hear all these albums before I die.
This resembles so many other early 2000s "indie rock" albums that I am amazed I ever found interesting.
There's just too much indie rock that are the same-ish on the 1001 list. This one mixed things up a little bit through the tracks but I still needed to pause the album halfway through and listen to something else as a palate cleanser before continuing.
A few good listens, but not my cup of tea
I’ll start with the positive. This is a a very well arranged, orchestrated and produced album. Unfortunately it feels like Win Butler wants to be David Byrne but he does have the funk and soul to make it work.
AJ: This band has a song or two I really love. Just a couple of really great songs. Wake Up hits me in the feels. I don’t know why it affects me so much. Just does. Couple cool tracks here, but they’re pretty strange. Honorable mention to Keep the Car Running. Not on this album but it’s the other song of theirs I love. Random stuff on Spotify after the album ended has been top notch! •The Strokes- Soma •Skipped vampire weekend •The Shins- New Slang skipped, but went back and listened and it’s cool. Skipped vampire weekend twice. Ha! •Franz Ferdinand- Take Me Out 🔥 •Flaming Lips don’t use jelly •Modest Mouse- Float On 💨 Cat: they’re pretty good, nothing jumps out at me as great. Weird voice, melancholy lyrics, I liked the dancier tracks (Power Out, Rebellion) and I liked Wake Up.
Meh
Levyllä oli omat hetkensä, mutta en kyllä tule enää ikinä kuuntelemaan uusiksi.
Ei nyt kovin jääny erikoista mainittavaa. Siedettävä
Too raucous for me
Strong two star. Two good songs, maybe three. This is the new brian rating system 1 good song = 1 star
Trying to be super arty-rock. But ultimately failing. Critically acclaimed but for the life of me, I don't know why. Let's list the art-rock tropes used on this album: 1. Weird album title that has nothing to do with the songs on the album. Long mysterious sounding titles with numbers and parenthesis: Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels), etc. (By the way, the 4 "Neighborhood" songs appear to have no connection with each other) 2. Foreign language titles (also mysterious): Une Annee Sans Lumiere 3. Unintelligible lyrics on several songs 4. Repetitive chanting 5. Added violin and accordion for artsy ambience 6. Constant driving quarter note bass drum on seemingly every single song, except when they throw in a sudden weird tempo change (usually accompanied by a key change or new chords). Very artistic. Here's a tip . Try writing a catchy melody. I tried to like these guys when this came out - but I just can't do it. I don't get it. Someone tell me what I am missing. 2 stars for effort.
Nah. Less than 24 hours since I listened and I can’t remember it at all. Has not hit the spot.
2.75
Meh
Meh. Little disappointed. I had higher hopes for some reason. 5/10.
I really dislike this style of indie rock. There were moments where I almost felt like I was having a good time. But overall so bland and same-y.
Arcade Fire, I piss out your candle of hope. Who gave the marching band a synthetic orchestra? This record failed to stick the first time around, and 19 years later it still lacks hook. Lots of soaring, lots of different sounds crammed into the packet, but almost monotone: twee. Too many parentheses in the song titles.
I thought it was well played, but not my cup of tea.
so relived you guys didnt like it either. Its well made drawn out, droning bedroom music for a new generation of depressed teens. too harsh?
Not really my kind of music.
-:
Never really understood the appeal of Arcade Fire. This is a wholly unremarkable set of songs until you get to ‘Wake Up’
Meh, wrong album at the wrong time. It is ok though. 2/5
I remember buying this when first released a lot of hype about it. Played it lots and then never went back. Not in a massive rush to go back again
My lord is this overhyped. I remember rolling my eyes at the hipsters slurping this band. Honestly, some of it isn't too bad, but plenty of it is. That opening song in particular is just bleh.
Interesting composition and quality recording/mixing. In The Backseat is a an excellent composition, with a slow build and strings that set it apart from other tracks. Vocals are emotionally charged. This album on the whole is very listenable, but heavier in lyrics than I expected.
Too folksy for my taste and I find Regine’s vocal to be super annoying.
OK but there are many better albums than this in the genre.
Just cant get into the album. Not that it is bad just not for me.
I'm really not sure if the album I heard on Spotify is the same album the Wikipedia article raved about. What I heard on Spotify sounded like a minimalist production quality, unpleasantly dissonant, angsty emo/indie/art-school rock mash-up where they overcompensate for average-at-best musical skill with over-dramatic presentation and delivery.
Is this the group that has the cute videos with Rube Goldberg machines & such? Makes sense that they developed a new those gimmicks, because nothing about their music is memorable. EDIT: Apparently, I was thinking of OK Go. Still don't like this album
Osassa kappaleista on silti yritystä.
The only thing worse than this boring album was its legacy was a thousand Brisbane bands with 7+ members starting up and wanting to be the Australian Arcade Fire. It surprises me that after all these years, it's so revered. I expected it to have been long forgotten by now.
I don’t care.
It was alright. a bit like a shitter aeroplane over the sea. Shame about the band being dodgy
I feel like part of why this album means so much to people is because they grew up with it, but I didn't have that experience. I have no prior experience with this band going into this. I'm not fond of the singer's voice, which is something I rarely find myself saying. It's not bad or anything, but sometimes it takes me a little out of the music. His voice kind of reminds me of the singer of Modest Mouse, but if you took away his unique way of singing. A couple songs on this album were good. Most didn't really resonate with me. Some songs kind of feel like they're aimed at teenagers, which is probably what seems to make it a popular coming of age album. Doesn't do much for me though. Maybe I just don't get indie music from this era. By the last song, I was just waiting for the album to end. My favourite song was Neighborhood #2 (Laika).
Every time ‘Funeral’ threatens to win me over, something naff happens. Either some whiny singing, an unnecessary chord change, or a crappy lyric ruins whatever song is playing. In the end ‘Funeral’ doesn’t end up being as bad as I thought it would be, but that’s faint praise. That 1990s/2000s indie rock sound has yet to do it for me than just the occasional song.
Didn't end up finishing it. It simply wasn't my thing and I just didn't enjoy the lead vocals at all.
boring
I steadfast had no interest in this album/Arcade Fire since they came on the scene. Listening now, I can appreciate some of the musicianship and a few of the songs sound nice, but they don't move me, and the vocals annoy me. Just not my thing.
Well.... some parts aged better than others. Some of it holds up. But in its lesser bits, clear inspiration for some of the most vapid indie rock that came 10 years later. Also, kind of weird to be listening to an Arcade Fire album given the extremely recent headlines about Win Butler. Maybe would've been three stars if I didn't have that bad taste in my mouth right now.
Not terrible, but if this were on the radio, I'd probably change the channel.
This is the first one I didn’t really even want to finish. I just didn’t find it to be interesting.
Never cared for Arcade Fire... does that make me a bad Millennial?
I can’t be bothered to listen to it
it's alright lyrics aren't moving seems to use a wide array of instruments - bass, twinkly piano, violin (or cello?), classic rock guitar Standard male indie vocals
chill, atmoshperic, nostalgia beats with melancholic, sad vibes overall pretty mid tbh might be a niche, acquired taste type of thing, not my cup of tea though
Couldn't hear lyrics, no catchy melodies or memorable songs. Interesting instrumentals.
Described as anthemic, grandiose, dramatic, sweeping, cathartic, emotional, oh, how the critics swooned. I am so bored. Bored, bored, bored, bored, boringly bored, bored, bored. Wake Up is a pretty great tune, and is head and shoulders above the rest of the album. It started playing, and my ears immediately pricked up.
A toe tapper - but yet another of those bands I just can't get along with. Something too 'sweet' about the music. I won't reach for the volume to turn it up, but equally won't turn it off if they come on the radio.
Not a fan.
The muffled, whiny vocals are so irritating. Instrumentals are kinda ambitious with the accordions and and violins spliced in, but it feels like they're just there for the sake of some novelty, rather than being a solid part of the ensemble. I'm probably not hip enough for this hipster orgy.
It was OK but nothing really clicked for me
good story but a bit boring
Overblown
More of that mid 2000s overproduced, whining, emo, why is there a fiddle in everything?, proto-hipster, I wear a funny hat but I can pull it off because I'm a musician type stuff.
Meh. Folksy, chambery indie rock has always been one of my least favorite genres. There was a period where I was a little more suspectible to it, but at that point Arcade Fire were too mainstreamy yet not Classic enough to hit my radar. So yeah, I didn’t have fun with this one. Credit where credit is due to a couple of decent ideas scattered in, but I can go the rest of my life without spinning this. D-
Meh, this is the kind of indie rock that holds no interest for me.
Was interesting….
Not a huge fan of this album, I was never a fan of arcade fire. I think I've only seen them perform on SNL. Either way, I won't be going back to this one.
Algunos buenos temas
At least they tried. The epitome of what someone who grew up in the shadow of uninspiring britpop comes up with to prove that music doesn't have to be... Well, britpop. This has chord changes for the sake of it. Tempo changes because of course they do. And of course, the orchestra is there because Oasis did it for "whatever" and it kinda worked on that. It isn't a horrible album. But it does not live up to its own pomp and bombast. If they'd toned it down a bit, it could have nestled in alongside every other mid-2000s post-britpop album, but for some reason, reviews and listeners have bought into the sales pitch and here we are on a list of 1,001 albums to listen to.
It was actively putting me to sleep, but in a boring way rather than a relaxing way. The beginning of the album starts off incredibly slow, and I much preferred the latter half. Each song in this section flows better and doesn't feel like the equivalent of quicksand to get through. It elevated the experience, but maybe that's just because the first half was so much worse compared to the second. Favorite track: Haiti
Best song: Wake Up. I still can’t get into this band
Indie rock band Arcade Fire's debut album. The album only has 10 tracks, but it is highly acclaimed - having been called a 'modern classic' and being certified gold. The theme of the album is mortality, so the songs are somber but still have that upbeat rock feel. I enjoyed this album and will look out for more of this band's music, even though none of the songs really stuck out to me as amazing.
Not keen
Perhaps a 2.5, just not my thing - found it a bit dull
Not bad
This album is like an alien trying to replicate human emotions.
I actually really dug the first song, but the rest of the album was kind of an inoffensive snooze.
Music for people that can almost land a kickflip to listen to while they think about their crush on the cute cashier at the Zumiez by the mall. Not outright offensive, so it's spared the single star.
My Arcade Fire story is that I saw them open for Unicorns back a few months before this album came out and absolutely nobody was paying attention to them and hanging out at the bar areas and I think that's hilarious. and really those are more or less my feelings now. I am completely ambivalent to this and have no strong feelings in any direction. I didn't get it then and I don't get it now. The only thing I can say after revisiting it again is it sounds way more like Broken Social Scene than I remembered it sounding. But even they were pretty boring live.
good Indie band. just not really sure this album needs to be on this list.
Underwhelming.
Fuck me this is literally the last album in the world I want to listen to. *It was fine, but I have so many other sad bands with a raspy voice I could listen to. If I heard this in 2009, I would love it. Unfortunately, I'm 27 and tired of it.
Inte min grej
- The tracks are so long - They all kind of mesh into one song and so loud
Kind bad ngl
Not memorable. Wake Up is fantastic, Rebellion is ok, but the whole work together really didn’t captivate me.
Eh. Not terrible but not for me.
Great Composition, song writing, lyrics and music. Never boring and pretty damn progressive for indie rock. It's from 2004 and you can definitely tell this album had a huge impact on the indie rock scene. All that said, I still don't like emo and the way the indie sound has trended since Wilcox. If I loved indie rock and loved this kind of music this probably would have been a 5/5, but I dont.
Ummm fine, okay. I listened to it while painting and enjoyed it, wouldnt be rushing back to listen to it again tho. Kinda forgettable
Track 3 & 4 were decent as they sounded a bit like modest mouse but the rest was gash
Had zero expectations for this album so wasn’t disappointed. Didn’t really enjoy it though. 2/5
Most Indie upsets me.
2.5 okay
It's fine, but man is it boring. I could easily forget that it was even playing.
Meh
Leuk voor een nummertje, hele albums is voor mij te veel van het goede.
I didn't care for Arcade Fire until I heard The Suburbs. This album does about the same for me as it did when I first heard it, which is to say, not much. I find it a bit exhausting.
nice indie + wake up
Really don't like the singer's voice, music style isn't really for me.
Arcade Fire = Less talented strokes on a heroin bender.
Interesting, but not totally my style.
Very meh
Whingy and annoying. No passion pit or vampire weekend
Generic adult pop hippie bullshit
I want to like them because they're Canadian, and I love the indie rock sound. But I'm just bored.
Seems a bit dated now and his voice is pretty bad, but a few good songs.
kinda artsy indie rock, not awful but not really that good. just kind of exists in a nice little pleasant space. i'd always wondered what this band sounds like, i thought they were more hard rock. guess not. I feel bad giving it 2/5 cause it's not bad, just not something I'll ever listen to again.
There is nothing here for me. I couldn't finish it.
Overproduced, badly-mixed, washed out wailing lyrics. I got profoundly bored halfway through this and turned it off.
Yeah, I'll pass. What the hell was that? I don't feel like I can adequately describe that album - genre defying, but not in a good way. What a mess, just a hodgepodge of styles all jam in together. Not worth it for me.
Very main character vibes but just not really my thing I fear. Fav song is ‘Wake Up’.
Pish. Absolute pish.
Great instrumental, just not a vibe
100% not for me
Okay, I seriously don’t get what people see in this band!!! Even when it got to Rebellion which I was surprised to find I did in fact know.. and as it got going I realised I like the bones of the song but I would actually enjoy it and maybe be a fan of it if only it were by someone else!! They’re so dull to me and just nothingness?? Idk maybe I’m old now.. but I don’t think I am I think this is just painfully mid!! And I can’t believe it’s the SECOND of their albums I’ve had to listen to!! Lord gimme strength.
the funeral is for us, sick of hearing albums by the Arcade Fire and ready to die
too boring too indie i like goth music
I'm happy that Arcade Fire found a better sound on their future albums, because their debut did not connect with me at all. Boring and derivative, and sounds like it was produced in a 2x2 tube room. Just an uninteresting mush of sounds that never go anywhere or say anything
I thought I might like this, but I didn’t…..
:/
I will not listen to an album where I have to struggle to hear the singer. I have no idea why bands/artist do this. It is not sultry, it is not mysterious, it is simply disrespect for your listeners.
I remember how good this was when it came out. But I also remember we are supposed to be not down with Arcade Fire
not ky cibe
Ugh
I can't deal with another album of banal. Lasted 1 min of the first song and oh my goodness I mean it's almost a talent in itself to be that GLARINGLY mediocre.
mid
not really my cup of tea
total ass tbh.
Boring. I don't get this kind of music. There are so many skilled musicians and songwriters out there, why would you listen to this boredom in layers?
big wet fart sound
?? vergessen
Didn't like it at all. Nearly puked at the Crown of Love - I guess this is how it sounds when someone's getting a shovel up their ass. There's a shitload of much better indie bands out there if someone's fancy.
Holy mid
I listened to this album once before for some reason, I’m not listening to it again.
i just don't like arcade fire
So they made shitty music from the start and didn't improve even an inch? Incredible. This is just a mish-mash of songs that don't go well together, the melodies are boring, and even if there is a more interesting riff or something, it just disappears, never to be heard from again. The singer just can't sing, and his voice is so grating too, and the backing vocals aren't better either. Had a dogshit of a time listening to this.
The music that we are constantly playing says nothing to me and my life. pretentious!
"Somethin' filled up my heart with nothing"—that's exactly how I feel after listening to "Arcaden Fire," and I'm not supposed to cry and scream about it. Another one of those totally overhyped bands and albums that really get on my nerves. I thought, "Give it a listen, I can clean at the same time." But of course, that was a stupid idea. The music, especially the singer's voice and the violin, was simply unbearable. ... After Radiohead's "Kid," this album wasn't on any of my lists. Boring and annoying at the same time, and I know none of the songs will leave a lasting impression on me. That's a shame, of course, but for that to happen, I'd have to want to listen to the stuff, and I don't. So I'd rather continue my contemplative wiping and hum to myself. Of course, nothing from "Arcaden Fire."
Meh
Nope
not for me
It reminds me of Franz Ferdinand, what isn`t a good thing, because i dont like it. It sound emotionless and boring.
Fraudulent
Favorite song off the album: Man on the moon Number of songs I liked/added to a playlist: 4 Not one I’m likely to repeat but generally pleasing, it was pretty good and not quite but almost rock.
This one was weird and didn't like any of the songs.
didn’t think id like it but currently listening to “in the backseat” and the girl’s voice surprised me!
I have already listened to this record and it’s god awful I hate arcade fire
Man, this is some hipster bullshit. Also, I'll say Win Butler can suck my dick, since giving consent ruins it for him.
Derivative
Kut muziek
Wack.
Not for me. 1/5
A pure shimmering turd of a record
Skip
This is the second Arcade Fire album that I've encountered so far on this list. I truly hated Neon Bible. I don't know why but even the artwork on this irritates me. It's less bad than Neon Bible but will never come back to this. It's of a time and I'll be leaving it there.
Can't give it any more than a 1
Are you familiar with Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On?" "Crown of Love" is like the opposite of that -- no one involved in making that song should be allowed to have sex again.
If you want to listen to the talking heads, this is a good album for you.
Derivative Indie slop.
Indie shite. Bailed four songs in.
Don’t like.
1/5. Хватит мне подсовывать Arcade Fire, пожалуйста.
sucked, to whiney.
One good song
Ugly music by an ugly person.
Not my kind of music. The album cover art is the only thing I like about it.
Nothing special.
The first 2 songs and Rebellion are good, the rest is music to fall asleep to. 2/10
Kakvo smeće i kakva dosada. 1/5, 1/10
Today I couldn't separate the music from the artist
More painfully bland music, perhaps I am just predisposed to not liking these guys but I feel like the singers voice is more irritating than last time I heard them. The only entertainment value that could have been derived from this would be if this album was a commercial bomb that killed any possible career for this group, at least the title would be more fitting
This album is ahead of its time, in making this specific style of music that I’m not fond of. Total slog to get through. The most enjoyable tracks on this were; Power Out, Rebellion (Lies), In The Backseat
Comparing this to the last arcade fire album is like asking if you’d rather eat dogshit fresh or dried. It’s still dogshit.
Nah
sorry but the allegations are too much for me
“Funeral”……aptly named. R.I.P.
Not for me. Favorite Track: N/A
Not for me
It has nothing that makes music great.
oh. oh no
No idea how some of you like this, it's utter, utter wank
Lowkey stomp clap hey music
Mostly noise and a very, VERY whiney "singer" caterwauling over non-,elodic beats. Not the worst thing I've heard, but I would not recommend it to anyone.
This music has no balls. The singers voice is grating as are the vocal harmonies. I have no clue why this type of watered down terrible “rock” music became so popular in the 2000’s.
Hated everything about this. Whiny, plaintive, fluffy drivel. Almost DNF. Not for me.
Cannot tolerate Win’s voice very long. 0 from me.
Did not like.
Nope
Cringing out 🤢😭
Not even on on the way out of the Cemetary i would play this wet nosewipe do to my Haters
F Win or whatever his name is
It’s a great record. Once again overshadowed by Win Butler being a s*x pest.
Para nada mi estilo, no me gustó para nada la voz ni la vibra que tiene. Muy "damn, soy único y diferente, vamos a rebelarnos" y todo acaba siendo la misma mierda. didn't like it at all.
Can someone please explain to me what's so good about this grating music?
Definitely NOT for me. Music for the whiney kids that are way too into "indie" rock, PBR, and skinny jeans. The type of people that you find at weird house parties in gentrifying neighborhoods. I can't tell the difference between this group, MGMT, and the Lumineers. Essentially backing track to sappy romance dramas staring the latest manic pixie dream girl and Michael Cera. I feel like I could go on, but that would be more effort needed for music that is not good.
The album name says everthing
Indie pop that’s cohesive, expansive sound to the record, but the songs don’t really accomplish anything, go anywhere or have any bite to them; it’s just a lot of sound that ends up being not very memorable. Like already buried and Standing randomly on a graveyard.
I was frozen with my bemused reaction to seeing Arcade Fire long enough to take a picture of it and send to my group chat. Arcade Fire? Arcade Firestorm that shit. By the time I got to "Wake Up," I had to chug coffee to do just that.
I read a comment about this one "what the album your friend tells you to listen to sounds like". Couldn't be more accurate. Best part about it was when it ended
Nothing about this appealed to me. The whiny vocals, the music, the sound quality. All left me cold. 1/5
Lame as fuck. Lame vocals. Lame backing track. Lame album cover. Almost 4 minutes into Neighborhood#1 I nearly burst into tears for some reason. But yeah lame as fuck 2015 leaver's assembly dogshit. I guess.
The Good: Who doesn’t like an Arcade? The Bad: Except when it’s on fire… The Ugly: Who goes to a funeral for fun? Why is it so difficult for these modern bands to just understand that rock and roll is about having fun? Stop trying to reinvent the wheel, chug 3 chords, and just be a band, instead of a close knit group of friends who are all showing off that they are multi-instrumentalist and therefor will include sounds just to be different. I am a big fan of Indie music, but not this contrived crap… 1*
This is a no for me. Nothing interesting or that would choose to listen to again.
1.5 boring
good voice just not for me
Boring and generic, no real substance.
hate them
This might be the worst one we've ever had
