Absolutely hate the continually forced vibrato vocals which makes the whole thing a chore to listen to. Musically it's very one dimensional too.

This has no redeeming features. One paced, crap lyrics, average vocals. Would get a pleasant polite applause at a Monday night open mic session down the pub.
It's not bad, but extremely dull and forgettable in most places
Was heading for a generous 3* but then went on for too long... inoffensive but bland
Absolutely brilliant... reminds me of mellow Pearl Jam.

3.5 *
Close to a 4 but not quite
Some excellent songs... but a lot are are either crap, or absolutely shite.
Really enjoyed, would've gotten 4* if he have actually done any song writing
About 1/5 of the songs are decent, the rest are not. Overrated
Musically is decent... Love his voice, lyrics are terrible, melodies bland
All single paced and completely forgettable
2/3's of the album is nonsense, redeems itself slightly near the end but too little too late
Some v good tunes but a lot of crap there too
It's not bad, but extremely dull and forgettable in most places
Meh... Pretty dull, prob needs a lot of listens to fully appreciate
Better than expected!
My own personal taste is that I don't like her voice I'm afraid, some solid songs though but found it tough listening
Yeeeaaaaaaaa Boooiiiii! Loved this
Superb blues, and great use of guest artists
Terrible stuff... woeful vocalist, bland songs, and production which sounds it was recorded on a tape recorder.
Shame the vocals are weak and samey, actual tunes are ace
Not bad per se, but hasn't aged well and annoys me
Close to a 4* for me, but not quite
Absolute shite.
Excellent album, though not sure it should be regarded as one of the all time classics
Surprised me how much I liked this. Brilliantly produced, with some classics
Perfect stadium rock album, consistently brilliant tunes
Definitely of its time, but nice, welll written tunes
Extremely underwhelmed by this.. Shame
Great voice, and sounds like he was an excellent performer for the crowd
I can't stand his voice and the constant slurring of words. Things improve on the few songs that have something resembling a structure but that's few and far between
Really frustrating album for me. Some absolutely brilliant tracks... but overly long with some bog average ones and lazy lyrics... Generally far far too much autotune and vocal production which strips some of the emotion that he's conveying.
The band are amazingly talented, majority of the songs are great... but having a chump that sounds like Randy Newman on vocals automatically means they can't get over 3*.
Really disappointing compared to Stand... Meanders along without much purpose or direction, and crappy production. Shame
It's fine... and while I wouldn't listen again, I can get why people would like it
Love her voice and really enjoyed the album... almost a 4 but not quite
Almost a 3, but too generic and bland overall. Great guitar work
It is exactly as it says it is... a soundtrack, and a very good one at that... but I don't want to sit at home and listen to background music.
Lovely album but very 1 dimensional
Bored the tits off me
Lacks any sort of identity or coherence... which is a shame as some solid music in there, but just no sort of flow...
Enjoyed this, almost a 4 but not quite enough stand out tracks
Nothing wrong with it at all, but just not my thing
Most consistent album of theirs I've listened to, and a lot of good songs (Tomorrow Never Knows being great). Just misses out on 4 stars due to the vast majority being too short and simplistic verse/chorus/verse/chorus/finish.
Almost a 4 but not quite. Too many skipable tracks
This just didn't agree with me... I should've enjoyed it due to the style but it's all a bit too messy due to the copious drug usage I'd assume.
Surprisingly excellent. High quality throughout and some absolute tunes
Patchy, some great stuff... then some tripe. Seems to be the way of most of Dylan's albums unfortunately.
First 3rd of the album is amazing, then gets pretty dull
So many cringe moments.
Feels harsh giving it a 2 as there's a lot of great musicianship there, but I really dislike most of the songs apart from about 3 of them
Would've got a 4 if a few filler songs were dropped from it
Generic, unimaginative & completely forgettable
Massive disappointment to me when compared to Lazer Guided Melodies which I really enjoyed... Couldn't get into it at all
Nico has talent... if talent is defined as an ability to sing every other note flat. Awful to listen to.
A greatly innovative album, awesome tunes through out
Brilliant album, Stem/Long Stem is genius and the rest is varied enough to keep you interested and high quality throughout
Can't stand the vocalist, a tough listen
2cack
Killing Time is a stunning tune... the rest (apart from Silver & Seven Seas) are absolute garbage.
Love this, superb funk/rock blend
Starts brilliantly but tails off badly unfortunately
1st half is great, 2nd half less so. Almost a but not quite
Almost a 3... but not quite.... Pretty decent for a country act though
Great wee pop album. Almost a 4 because of Girls Just Want to Have Fun & Time After Time... almost a 2 because of some of the terrible synth (especially the god awful solo on All Through The Night)
Really disappointing
Not enough standouts to get a 4 but a good album
There's a good album in here somewhere... appalling lyrics though kill any chance of finding it though
Fine for what it is but nothing really stands out and I wouldn't wanna listen to it again
Not bad per se... but sounds like any run of the mill rock band you'd hear down your local music venue
Only Here She Comes Now prevents this from getting a 1 star
Totally forgettable
Starts well then fades quickly and becomes very dull
I really liked this back in the day, but it sounds dated in places and lacks consistency
Coffee shop background music. Bland, though pleasant and inoffensive despite the terrible lyrics. Why it's on this list is a complete mystery though
Surprised me how good this was, plenty of great tunes to warrant a 4*
Could never quite work out what this album was meant to be, but was a decent listen
Sounds like a Kate Bush drag act backed by a Foals tribute band... (This is not a good thing)
Improves on second listen but too much filler. Really enjoyed the southern blues elements but the bland made for radio songs were dull
Really enjoyed this somewhat surprisingly!
Brilliant, almost a 5*
Dull but inofffensive
No stand out tracks at all unfortunately
Great album which grows with every listen. Strong 4*
Lost a lot of the impact with the amateur mixing
Dull unimaginative tripe...
Terrible 2nd half
I think this would be a bit of a grower, she's no FKA Twigs but still decent
Loretta sounds like an absolute pain in the hole, no wonder she's singing terrible whiny country music
Absolutely brilliant... reminds me of mellow Pearl Jam.
Bit of a confused album overall. Not bad per se just all over the place
Really dull. A few good tracks that almost got it to a 3* but not quite enough
Suffers like most Pixies albums from having too much filler crap in amongst some gems
Dunno how I've never heard these guys before... v. good album
Generous 3... very dated and repetitive but still a decent listen
Was heading for a generous 3* but then went on for too long... inoffensive but bland
Drags on too much, would've been a 3 otherwise
Brilliant throughout
Far too samey, shame as the tunes are good but it just gets dull
I'm absolutely baffled as to what warranted this to be on the list at any point
I really love this album but objectively it's a 4* due to a few filler tracks
Perfectly okay... but lacking in many standout moments. Generous 3
Fuck off Morrissey... lazy melody writing apart from That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore. The rest of the band don't get out of 2nd gear either for most of it.
Really liked this album when this first came out and it still holds up well. Shame they went downhill after this
2 decent singles doesn't hide the other 1 hour's worth of repetitive and dull excrement that is commonly known as House music
A massively influential album, but sounding a bit dated now. The mix of hardcore punk tunes with random party tunes is a little confusing at times haha
Solid DnB, decent variation although nothing mindblowing
Really enjoyed this, almost a 4
Just scraped a 3*
Love the title track... 2nd half of the album is forgettable though... shame
Really grows on you after a bunch of listens
This whole album irritated the shit out of me... Not even Psycho Killer (which I'm not a massive fan of) could save it.
Superb
The 1st half is background music and self indulgent, the 2nd half is very good.
Singing annoys me somewhat, music is good but the songs are very forgettable.... A slightly harsh 2*
Yawn, bland and a bunch of pointless covers. Definitely the most boy band esque from them that we've had so far
Solid album but only 2 or 3 standouts mean it just misses a 4*
Nice background music but a whole album of hammond organ isn't for me... and as good as the 3 original songs are, not enough to warrant a respectable score
Actually really enjoyed this... goes on a bit much but think it's an album that would grow with multiple listens
The Fall will always be shite
Bonkers and really enjoyable :)
POW POW POW!!! Has it's moments that I really liked... Too much random nonsense though.
Some great standout tunes but a lot of samey filler songs that don't really go anywhere
Got boring quickly with it being the same pace throughout... background music
I was expecting this to be very samey but it keeps things interesting throughout. Banging tunes if you don't take it too seriously and accept it's a little dated sounding now
Actually suffers from being too well produced... makes it sound very cheesy, but generally a solid listen. A slightly harsh 2*
The better songs on this album are good, but as per every Beatles album, there's some nonsense on here too. Wish the second half didn't have the medley feel but will give a generous 4
Some great tunes here, but they're in the minority unfortunately. Should've been 20mins shorter
Audible AIDS. It's like they decided to create a whole album based on the naff shite the Beatles did and forgot about the rest
Didn't realise Frank was such a whiny little bitch 😂 Felt like it was the same depressing song over and over again and hasn't aged well
Some great tracks here, just not enough to justify a 4
Paint by numbers britpop that doesn't do anything particularly original or great to warrant it to be on this list imho.
Yeah they disappeared up their own arses later in their career but this has consistently great songwriting and is excellent
Very generous 3... easy to listen to but repetitive and feels quite sterile
Absolutely hate the continually forced vibrato vocals which makes the whole thing a chore to listen to. Musically it's very one dimensional too.
Mostly nonsense with the occassional decent moment
A really solid album, but lacking in any major stand out tracks
Perfectly fine to listen to, but every song is so similar they kinda all blend into 1
V. interesting, not sure if I'd ever listen to it casually though
Songs are worth 3*, but the quality of the recording and weird change in volume levels drops it a star
Nothing wrong with it intrinsically.... but it's dull and acts best as inoffensive background music
Shite Flight
An absolutely infuriating album... this band are so far up their arses. Not even I Can See For Miles can prevent this getting a 1 due to the level of shite delivered on the rest of the album
A generous 3... quite boring but listenable in a lot of places, although a few good tunes to hold it up
Decent listen, shame how weak the last third of it is. Low 3*
Sonic Youth always frustrate me... they always have the potential to throw out a banging album, but there's always lot of filler shite. Almost a 4 here but missing out because of this
This has no redeeming features. One paced, crap lyrics, average vocals. Would get a pleasant polite applause at a Monday night open mic session down the pub.
A strange mix of lots of brilliant moments with some really dull/annoying ones thrown in there that stop it getting any more than a 3 unfortunately
Starts off okay but then gets really lame and annoying in the second half
Can't stand Bryan Ferry's vocals, the music itself is ok.
I really thought I'd hate this, but it's a decent listen though gets a bit naff near the end
Well that awesomeness came out of nowhere!
Black Coffee saves it from getting a 1 star... Everything else is so very dull
Not a single bad song on here, but no big tunes either unfortunately. Solid listen
I enjoy the chaotic aspect of it all, and is quite a fun album, but they obviously made an informed decision to make it sound like it was recorded in a toilet in 1975. The lack of bass really reduces any impact it could have too and leaves it hard it listen to. Perhaps a slightly harsh 2* but I won't be listening to it again
Is actually a great album in the 2/3's of it where they aren't doing overly self indulgent jamming
Good listen, let down by the original tracks
Shiii-ite
Falls right off the cliff after the excellent 1st 3 songs
Plenty of other singer songwriters throughout history who could do a bunch of traditional folk covers to this level
Soooooo dated and repetitive
This is lazy and doesn't have anything of merit apart from Range Life
Nothing wrong with it... but I'm fed up with every Springsteen album being bang average, this one in particular lacks any real stand outs
As far as country albums go, this isn't bad!
Some good stuff, some naff stuff, a slightly harsh 2
Great fun and upbeat album, not the biggest fan of the vocalist's wobbly vibrato but still q good listen
Frozen is an absolute tune. Rest of it is generally very sub par euro pop/dance
Brilliant album, nearly a 5*
I'll take two of whatever this eejit is on
Lovely album which surprised me
So very dull and terrible lyrics... Only gets an extra star as it's nice enough as background music
Should be the definition of hit and miss
Without a doubt ahead of it's time... doesn't stop it being irritating as fuck in a lot of places though
Opposite to This Is Hardcore which was solid throughout but with no stand outs.. .this has 4 great tunes and then a load of naff nonsense
Pleasant listen but nothing really stand out at all. Even the studio version of no woman no cry done is v weak compared to the live recording
Nothing interesting at all about this album
Nothing interesting here at all and stupidly long. Gets 2* as generally it's non-offensive and okay background music
Starts well then turns into a giant turd, only to be saved by the title track.
Yawn...
Unsurprisingly it's extremely dark, but really well put together. I reckon repeated listens would add even more to it
Starts well, then quickly turns into a generic house album by being annoying and/or repetitive and/or bland
Really enjoyed this, just scraped a 4
Interesting approach, but the vocals/melodies are lazy and it all blurs into what sounds like one giant soundtrack for a bunch of adverts
I really like the majority of the songs but every song being very slow and depressive gets a bit much once you're half way through
Almost got a 3 as it was all so familiar despite being very meh... then i realised it's cause 2/3s of the album was released as singles. Bog average and terrible backing tracks
Some brilliant parts, some less so. Reckon these guys would be great to see live as there's a lot going on
Not bad, and an easy listen, but dull and lifeless and he's so much better than this album shows
Not terrible but nothing memorable at all
Almost a 4* but not quite
I get the idea... and it succeeds in that it'd be a good film soundtrack. But there's a reason film background music isn't topping the charts....... it's background music
If there's one thing that this endeavour has taught me... it's that the Bee Gees stole a living... especially Robin with his strangled goat impression
Really enjoyed this, a generous 4 as I reckon repeat listens would make it grow on me more as well
Had its moments, a slightly harsh 2*
Had some great tunes considering it's country!
Absolutely bonkers... I was expecting to hate this completely but it was amusing and has some moments between the madness. Still a 2* though haha
As subtle as a brick lyrically, and more like spoken word imho. The beats bored me senseless too
Kinda bland and uninspiring
Good stuff but too many fillers
Not even Karma Chameleon could save this from all the other naffness
A generous 3*, gets very samey and Shaun Ryder is very limited in what he can add to the band
Absolute nonsense
Perfectly fine to listen to but found it really boring in the most part... completely lacks any sort of energy. A generous 3. Oh and Sleeper > Elastica
Yawn
Vocals are painful at times but solid songwriting... generous 3
Gave up after 20mins... life's too short to listen to shite like this
Decent album, not a lot of stand outs but a good listen. Was going to give it 2 star but then realised it's late 70's which needs kudos
Some good moments here but it's mostly 1 paced (yeah yeah dnb), and compilations shouldn't be in this list imho
Well executed 90's nympho RnB... Obviously not exactly a high brow genre but waterfalls pushes it to a 3
Such a shame it's so one paced. Decent listen but doesn't touch some of her other work
Obviously Getz is a great player and this album is nice to listen to, but it could do with having a bit more variety in there
Another irritating album from these chumps
1st half is great but it's in the 2nd act where this kicks in even more. Brilliant double album
I tried... I really did... but could not tolerate this despite a few glimpses of something worth listening to sprinkled in there
Loved this, so far ahead of its time
Lots of potential, great moments, and lots of nonsense too
The good aspects of it are ruined by every song being 2 mins too long and the cringe lyrics
A bit silly but overall a fun listen
Absolutely nothing of note in this album. Low energy background rap with a lisp. Then add the cringe of Release Yo'Delf and that gives it 2*
Totally weird but I loved it 😁
I thought I was going to hate this initially, but ended up finding it okay. Don't think I'd listen to it again though. Just misses out on 3*
A good listen but has some dull moments
This is so up and down, really hard to judge, bang in the middle 3* it is then
It's quite impressive that they've somehow managed to produce quite shit songs for this wide a range of different genres
Such a confused album
Mixed bag, some good stuff, some average. High 3*
Starts alright, then descends into bland, lazy shite.. Basically a good summary of their career
Yawn
So dull
So much filler!
Didn't really do anything for me... absolutely fine background music though.
Not bad, but completely forgettable
Was prepared to give this a generous 2*, then that fucking Dearest song came on which highlighted everything that's shite about this record
Decent listen but almost all covers, a generous 3
Finally a consistent Sonic Youth album :) Great stuff
In no way the best example of this sort of music, but definitely one of the pace setters
Thought this was a really nice listen, and reckon it'll grow even more after a few more spins (which I'll give it).
Enjoyed this
This didn't really work for me (too dense maybe, lacking direction?) which is a shame as I loved It takes a nation :/
I'm giving this badboy an extra star as one of them plays a FUCKING JUG!
It amused me a lot in places and is totally bonkers, and I didn't actually hate it but come on... it shouldn't be given the light of day as it's a load of random shite
So much duller than Dear Science. Pass
2nd half of the album is an improvement on the 1st, but I cant get around the terrible production unfortunately
I get and appreciate what they're trying to do, it doesn't work for me, but still getting a 3
Middle of the road and nothing memorable or catchy.
Can't believe I've never heard this album, banger
Generous 4, there's quite a bit of nonsense in there but some absolute bangers
Has a few good moments but most of it is background music for a hipster mexican restaurant
Really good, but too fuckin long... prob managed about half of it but was enjoyable
The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores.... Morrissey is one of them.
Completely forgettable middle of the road indie
I don't mind a bit of self indulgence but this goes well over the top. Main tunes are great though
While the actual songs are decent but nothing special in the most part, the humour throughout makes you want to have been there at the weird "gig" set up
How he followed up his 90 min snooze fest with this absolutely bonkers effort 1 year later it's beyond me. Really enjoyed it 😂 (apart from the stupid medley)
Brilliant listen 👍
Very dull... inoffensive though but don't see any real point in this.
Close to a 4 but the singer was just a little too annoying
Very endearing, sounds like what Bjork would do if she was a little less bonkers.
Lovely album, great surprise
I get what this album is trying to be... But Harvey rarely steps up to the early 90's alternative mark that is obviously being aimed for. Albini was obviously also allowed free reign to do whatever the fuck he wanted as there's a wide variation in production quality that he was guilty of in those days. Shame as the talent was there to really make a great record of this type. More tracks of the quality of Me Jane were needed
Great musicians but the songs themselves fail to land for me.
Good stuff, but 76mins of mainly flugelhorn gets somewhat tiring
Enjoyed the humour... but the songs themselves are irritating
In summary... I don't get it... seems like basic bog standard dnb, but with the added negative of being even more repetitive and long winded than normal. Prob just not my genre in its full form tbf, preferring just short incursions into the style.
Have always loved Cult of Personality and the band themselves are brilliant, but the songwriting generally is average
I'm not really a fan of this genre but i get this album's merits
Enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. Far better than the majority of albums in this style from that era
Really enjoyed this, especially the bass lines.. Just scrapes a 4*
1st 3 tracks are brilliant then it loses its way badly. High 3*
Standard bjork weirdness but some great moments
Replace the sitar with any western instrument and nobody even notices this album.
2nd half of the album is so much better than the 1st. Low 3*
The music is good, the vocals less so
How the hell did this sell 30mil copies?!?!
Even though this always gets the plaudits I've always preferred Geogaddi
I just don't get on with her voice I'm afraid
This was solid overall, nice variety there
Thought I was gonna hate this at the start but actually got into it as it progressed
Merde
Enjoyed this a lot more than expected!
Great voice, talented band, but the songwriting is generic and the production is pop 101
Generous 3... Some good bits, some bad bits, spme easy to listen to background music. Quite interesting though imho
Starts well then turns bland in the 2nd half
As far as Country goes, it's not bad. That's a low marker though
3 classic singles but the rest generally annoys me for the most part:/
So irritating
It's offensive how talented these guys obviously are but how much absolute filler shite they packed into this album
Enjoyed this a lot more than expected... High 3 *
Yeah the covers bring something new to the songs... if new is not wanting to hear those songs in this format ever again
Decent, love the backing band, but suffers from being one dimension... Basically it's one big depressive song
First half is brilliant, but then goes very lazy generic run in the second unfortunately
This is the 3rd mbv album we've had, the 1st two did nothing for me, v but this is the seminal one so had high hopes. In conclusion, they are overrated imho. This is an okay album, but feels like it's a shoegaze album for people who don't listen to shoegaze to be able to say they listen to shoegaze 😂 basic throughout
You can really hear why it cost $10 in total to record. Basically a bunch of badly recorded, out of tune, short demos.
Not my thing at all but an extra star as it sounds brilliant for its age
After 4 or 5 songs I was surprised that I was considering giving it a 4* as it was really enjoyable... But then it suffered from the usual house issue of being repetitive and one paced so got a bit bored
Hate the songs when he's singing in his higher register, but the rest are great
Annoying over the top fake American accents in songs that sound like theme tunes for twee US teen sitcoms. No thanks
Very weird, didn't really know what to give it so I'm going for a cop out 3*
The songs are so fucking lame. The band is good though.
Enjoyed this a lot more that To Pimp A Butterfly. High 3*
I love the name but Perry's vocals have always annoyed me, Been Caught Stealing is an absolute tune though
It's by no means ground breaking, but a really enjoyable listen with a rockier edge than it's very obvious influences
Really have no idea why this is in the list. Seems like the only remarkable thing about it is that she actually manages to write her own unremarkable songs after 20 odd albums of covers :/
Thought this was brilliant, a double album concept that actually worked really well.
Never heard this before but I hear so many more recent bands in it, ridiculously influential. A brilliant listen
I don't think it's possible to find an album that sounds more 80's than this... Which is impressive considering how early in the decade it was. I imagine the conversation with the producer went something like this... How much Moog are you gonna add on the album Steve? Steve: Yes
Pleasant but a bit dull compared to the other album if theirs on this list
There is no way there needs to be more than 1 Nick Drake album on this list... nevermind 3 of them. But a good (and melancholic as always) listen
Not my thing at all, can't really judge it but okay to have on in the background
Really fun album, and a brilliant live band too. Will ignore the fact that it's pretty much a compiliation album this one time...
Dull for the most part apart from a few glimpses here and there. High 2*
It almost convinced me that it wasn't a complete pile of dung, but ultimately failed
There's nothing intellectual in this at all, but I really enjoyed it and it's a fun listen
Great musicians... but ridiculously self indulgent and naff
Thought this was actually pretty good, if a little understated
Absolutely fine in the background, though some parts were a little irritating
A couple of good moments but mostly nonsense
So weird... sounds a lot older than early 90s, and has such an eclectic range of styles. I really enjoyed it though. High 3*
Totally ashamed to say I'd only known Solid Ground before having this come up here. Didn't realise how modern this was, and that's a compliment. Blew me away, stunning album
Good listen, nothing mindblowing though
Fine for what it is... inoffensive background music. But only Sunny Afternoon has anything memorable
Fair play for trying something a little different than you'd expect... Not my thing at all though
Couldn't believe it when this chump fucking meowed through a song haha. Rubbish lyrics, and his voice annoys me.
Always amuses me anytime I'm reminded just how prog Genesis were in the 70s...still lame though
Quite disjointed and over indulgent in places (looking at you Buckingham). Would've benefited from not trying to get a double album out of it
Disco really isn't my thing, and a lot of these tracks are overplayed, but it's impossible to deny the quality here so have to give it a 4
All a bit weird and meh... apart from the obvious standout track
Enjoyed this more than I expected, quite charming in places
Should've stuck to his instincts which had decided not to finish this for almost 40 years. Some absolute nonsense
Good fun, but doubt I'd listen to it again. Producer loved the panning control on the guitars haha
I have never (and I will never) enjoyed Randy Newman
A lot of forgetable filler
By far their most twee album, but still great
I really hated most of this... Plus she looks like Frank Lampard . The last song just about managed to pop this up to a 2*
So close to a 5 but just misses out due to an average back straight.
