A more obscure DB that I've ever encountered, but I was able to get through it. Not sure I would put this one on again though.

No, just no. I'm sorry but at this point I'm sure we are into the "weird" Bowie. Maybe it's all weird, but this is my 3rd or 4th Bowie album on here. This is an album and not a collection of singles. I'll give it that, but there's nothing here that I found enjoyable. Long meandering soundscapes, sounds, mumbling. There are a couple tracks to start the album that are closer to traditional songs, but this just simply doesn't work for me.

There are a couple mildly catchy tracks, otherwise not much going for it. Something about the mix made everything run together.

Not a lot of singing... (hooray!!) overall it's pretty good, a bit slow for the instrumentals but like it was kind of a vibe. Towards the end it started sounding like the Doctor Who soundtrack though.... (Weeping Wall 02:13). 2/5 lol i just didn't rock with it heavy 😔

Same thoughts I usually have about Bowie; I see the value, appreciate the talent, and admire the ambition, skill, and influence. But the style just isn't really in my wheelhouse (that said, I did really enjoy some of the closing instrumental tracks)
All music sounds like cats bashing around on dustbin lids to me. It's like, I can hear music like I usually do, it sounds the same as it ever did, but instead of harmony, I hear discord, instead of beauty I hear ugliness that makes me want to exist in one of those silent rooms where people go mad. That seems nice. I might be having some kind of crisis. As a musician, this is troubling. I might hate music. Anyway, don't listen to me, I'm sure this is excellent to someone not having an existential crisis. At least it's not another damned Beatles album. Really, All the Beatles albums are the most influential music ever produced? All of them!??! What about Mozart? That guy had some pretty big hits. Who's representing that chief? I guess he didn't release too many albums, while alive, but he sure has a lot out nowadays.

Jag har länge försökt att tycka om David Bowies låtar, men det här albumet gick inte alls hem. Det var för mycket ljud som inte passade in alls och ingen sång av någon form. Ljudet hade inte heller något tydligt beat och därför var det ärligt talat jätte tråkigt att lyssna på. Jag ger dock den 2 stjärnor då några av låtarna var hyfsat bra. Min favorit låt från albumet var Be My Wife.

A Bowie I didn’t connect with. I’ll have to give it another shot at some point
so far i dont think its very exciting. halfway through. some cool sounds but thats pretty much all it is.

Hit and miss. Some good stuff, lot of guff too.
I don’t think this is Bowie at his best. In fact, this was written at a time he and Iggy Pop were trying to turn their lives around from being hooked on drugs, so yeah this isn’t the sort of Bowie I had hoped to hear. That said I really liked Subterraneans, a track that was meant for Bowie’s soundtrack to The Man Who Fell To Earth before he pulled out from doing the soundtrack.

He's a creative genius yet I struggled to appreciate this album.
It started off well....but I was not a fan of the last few experimentally, new age-y instrumental tracks. First half of the album, even though the instrumental tracks were a bit repetitive I liked the sound Bowie created and the instrumentation he chose. But he lost me by the end so the album didn't end on a good note for me. First half 3.5 stars, second half 1.5 stars, total 2.5 stars but can't give half stars so 2.

Certainly interesting, but not really something I'd actively listen to very often. The first part is relatively tradicional while the secons part is very focused on instrumentals and repeating spacey melodies with sometimes a sort of an eearie vibe. Doesn't really focus on vocals and aims to create more of an ambient. Could be used as interesting background music though. A song that stands out the most to me is definitely Speed of Light. Nice spacey bowie-like experimental sound. Idk though if won't get bored of it quite fast as it is pretty repetitive. Sound and Vison isn't too bad either. Not sure that I'll return much to this album though, but good to know. 5/10
In the first half of the record, the way it sounded felt a decade earlier than 1977, but after the first half some of the tasteful abstraction started to shine through more, creating some freshness. The songs with Bowie's vocals usually ended up being my least favorite; on those particularly I didn't feel the vision and they were mostly forgettable. Some others I could just appreciate for sounding balanced, unique, and immersive. I tried to listen without the influence of name attached and as a result the record as a whole left me lukewarm and not personally enthralled. 4/10
Second half was rough. No standouts.
Although I enjoyed this album, there were times that I was wishing that it was over. There are some songs I really liked such as “Be My Wife”. Most of the synth heavy songs I was waiting for Dieter to pop out and ask me if I wanted to touch his monkey.

Started off pretty good. A couple of nice tracks, although the ones with lyrics often felt unfinished and almost like they ended before they should have. By the end of the album this wore out its welcome, though. Songs were too long and might have given me a headache. Better than Black Star, but I know he's got way better stuff to come in the 1001 for me.

Quite experimental. I quite liked the first half of the album, particularly sound and vision. From Warszawa onwards it got pretty boring imo, I wanted to stop listening to it. It's interesting to see how the most popular song usually are, in fact, the best ones. 2 stars.
Was waiting for this album to end. Not really something I would ever listen to on my own.

Today's Bowie album is one of his Berlin Trilogy where he went to Germany to clean the drugs out of his system and ended up making 3 records in as many years, plus helped Iggy Pop make 2 in the same timeframe. It's a solid album. The only thing I don't like is the scent of fucking Brian Eno all over this record with his off tempo spacey horseshit. I feel it takes away from an otherwise great album. Overall, not my favourite Bowie album. I knew nothing on this one, and didn't care to. I can't see myself seeking this album out again. Bowie is great, just this album kind of sucks. I blame Eno. Favourite songs: Sound and Vision, Be My Wife, Speed of Life Least favourite songs: Warszawa, Weeping Wall 2/5

No estuvo ni cerca de ser tan bueno como esperaba. Este es el segundo álbum de Bowie que escucho y me sale en esta lista. "Heroes" fue el primero y me dejó con un sabor agridulce, pero tenía la esperanza de que solo fuera uno de los "peorcitos" y que muy seguramente los demás eran mejores, los responsables de que se hablara tan bien de Bowie. Lamentablemente y para mi sorpresa, al menos con este álbum, parece ser que es completamente lo contrario. Este salió primero y, la verdad, sí que mejoró. Lo malo que encontré en "Heroes" cuando lo escuché, fue que la segunda mitad era tan aburrida y sin chiste que, básicamente, estaba de sobra, pero al menos lo compensaba de cierta manera con una primer mitad muy buena y disfrutable. En cambio, aquí, simplemente no se puede salvar. Las dos mitades son igual de malas y, la verdad, uno simplemente preferiría no escucharlo. Decidí darle 2 estrellas porque, fuera de una o dos canciones, el álbum es de un mal tipo de raro, apenas es disfrutable y. sinceramente, no me gustó.
My guy really forgot to add lyrics to half the album. Would enjoy a Bowie album more if it had more Bowie.
Definitely not Bowie's best and the album is a bit of a mess. I was listening to the remastered edition, and I'm not sure if the mastering of the original was any better but here it was utter crap. Putting the bad mastering aside however (which is difficult to do), this still sounds like an experiment gone horribly wrong. While we expect nothing less than wild experiments from Bowie, this one just misses the magic of a lot of Bowie's other works.
I read the Hugo Wilcken book about this album a while back. It was interesting to read about how utterly insane he was coming off of the release of station to station and his moving to berlin to record this was sort of his escape. That gave me hope that the resulting album would be good, but unfortunately it’s just not. Not as bad as black star though.

A David Bowie album that's comprised mostly of experimental instrumentals? I hate to say it but this album was a huge miss for me. Considered to be one of his best albums, this really didn't do anything for me, and that's a shame.
I wondered why the back half of this album became a meandering electronic soundscape, then I learned that Brian Eno was involved in this album. I love David Bowie, but found this album to be pretty plain. The story behind it is interesting enough to explain the music.
I had high hopes coming into this album, as with all my exposures to Bowie from this period. This is late 70s Bowie, however, and it would seem that much of the album was made in the absence of our leading star. At least that’s how it sounds to me on my first few listens. There are so many tracks that are puzzling to me; on the one hand, here are some of the best instruments and production on any Bowie album, with really creative instrument choice, sound design, and arrangements, especially for the period. And almost nothing Brian Eno touches is without merit. That said, it sure sounds like Bowie phoned it in on top of a couple of these instruments after they had been recorded. I keep waiting for Bowie to come through with one of his signature, aching yet effervescent rock star lines. But he’s almost nowhere to be found! And when he does arrive, it’s too little too late. Not for me, this one. I think I don't really like Bowie as much as most people do, we've had a couple of his albums now and I haven't really gotten along with any of them. I've read that this album is really influential etc., but I didn't find it a particularly enjoyable listen. It doesn't feel like it's finished, loads of the songs either drift out or end a bit abruptly. Sound and Vision is the best of a pretty average bunch (but even that feels like it's missing something despite a really good hook). 2/5.

Bowie certainly seems to have captured some sort of zeitgeist here. I'm not sure if it's the zeitgeist of 1977, or some Blade Runner-esque 2177 dystopia, but it's got a vibe. Not my vibe, granted, but a vibe. Some of the songs could make for some interesting sci-fi or fantasy movie soundtrack material, but I wasn't feeling it as an album to listen to in 2022.
I liked Sound and Vision, but overall the sound was soul deafening.
This is my least favorite album from Bowie. Can't wait for the other albums of his on this list.
A great artist with less to show for it than he ought to have, he's never not experimenting. yet on the four Bowie albums that have come up so far, none of the experiments have worked spectacularly. Still, I'm pleased he gave them a shot.

Great title for this LP, Low. An apt description of my general disposition following its conclusion, not to mention the percentage of possibility that I’ll listen to this recording again. Admittedly, I’ve only been a casual fan of Bowie throughout his varied incarnations. I understand he’s a rock god. I’m just usually worshiping at another altar, that’s all, and so don’t have much to contribute to the litany. For what it’s worth, only two brief observations: 1) Listening to a Bowie LP with over half the tracks as instrumentals is like listening to a Hendrix LP minus the guitar solos. What’s the point? The primary reason I listen to Bowie is to hear him sing, damn it! I feel gypped. 2) This would make a wonderful soundtrack to a movie, a genre Bowie happened to be already familiar with at this point in his career. The only obvious problem, though, is there’s no accompanying film! Again, gypped. Straight up, I loathed side one: a sloppy, clunky, shrilly mess of a recording. Bowie’s lyrics aren’t much better, either, including a lame marriage proposal on track six?! Not that my displeasure took that long to coalesce. I wasn’t a minute into the second track before I started looking for some glass of my own to break. Side two was a little more tolerable. I am a fan of Brian Eno, and could definitely hear the influence he was already having on Bowie. Perhaps the musical ideas on the LP just needed to stew in the crockpot a little longer to get as tender and tasty as they would on later recordings. Or could it possibly have been the effects of Bowie’s new sober lifestyle, following years of prodigious cocaine abuse in the city of the fallen angels? That would cover a multitude of musical sins. Nothing much good has ever come from the union of LA and (B)'Low.' I’m just thankful Bowie survived it all; and, that this wasn’t his only recording. That said, (B)'Low' blew, for me. Would it have been too much to have allowed Bowie just a little bit of cocaine, purely for recording purposes? (He deserves one star just for his Bowieocity.)
I have a hard time enjoying anything from the late 70s or the whole 80s. This experience was once again a proof of that 😂 really don't like this kind of music, but it was interesting to listen to this entire record, since ive never listened to anything by bowie besides his biggest hits. Still, not for me though

David Bowie has some iconic songs and I guess this particular album would be considered an iconic sound with a lot of synth. However, I found this album to be rather boring with a lot of repetitive noises playing. It’s not something I would listen to again.

I like Bowie. Hadn't listened before. Odd album. Opening instrumental, very short 2nd track, I like "Sound and Vision", although fade out endings generally bug me. The last few (mostly) instrumental tracks felt otherworldly. Most likely an album I'd need to listen to many times to get the appreciation that bigger Bowie fans have.

Low is the 11th studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 14 January 1977 by RCA Records. After years of drug addiction and personal instability living in Los Angeles, Bowie escaped to France in 1976 with his friend and singer Iggy Pop to become sober. After meeting musician Brian Eno the same year, Bowie began recording the first of three collaborations with Eno and producer Tony Visconti later named the "Berlin Trilogy". The music on Low is grounded in art rock and experimental rock, and features Bowie's first explorations in electronic and ambient styles. It is influenced by the German music scene, particularly bands such as Tangerine Dream, Neu!, Harmonia and Kraftwerk. Side one consists primarily of short, direct avant-pop song-fragments while side two consists of longer, mostly instrumental tracks. Retrospectively, Low has received critical acclaim and is regarded as one of Bowie's best works. Stephen Thomas Erlewine of AllMusic writes that with the album, Bowie "confirmed his place at rock's cutting edge". Considering it "dense [and] challenging", Erlewine concludes "the record is defiantly experimental and dense with detail, providing a new direction for the avant-garde in rock & roll."

Not as terrible as I find most Bowie to be. This might be because there isn't much of his vocal happening throughout this album. I'm very biased against that voice, no matter how many chances I give it, it pains me to hear him. There's some nice musical fiddling about going on here though.

I think this is the third Bowie album that's come up and by far my least favorite. Feels like a movie score to a movie I haven't seen. I guess you get to a certain level and you can experiment as much as you want but this one doesn't do it for me

Not my favorite at all. So weird. I didn’t mind some of the instrumental stuff but at the same time, it was very repetitive for the whole song. And I don’t really enjoy Bowie’s voice at all. Makes me think of a creepy clown at times.

You cannot tell me that there has ever been a time or place where a group of people have been gathered, having a good time, and individually or collectively thought that they should put this album on to keep the fun times going. This is a mash of half baked ideas on the first half and tine poems on the second half. At least when the Beatles put out their half baked ideas, they spent enough time to collectively work them into one of the greatest album sides ever. Here, I would not believe that Bowie did anything more but show up to sing some improv poems over song concepts that had not been fleshed out. I get that the second side was ahead of its time, but that doesn’t make it “good” just because it was first.

Sorry, but you're wrong. This one never overcomes its own inertia. The riffs wear on and on - suddenly you're two songs farther along but it still sounds like it did 15 minutes ago. You might need to hear every fourth song before you die, if you're a Bowie diehard, so this doesn't qualify. Sigh...
Experimenteel Bowie album, de eerste van de zogenaamde "Berlijn triologie". Er zaten wel wat leuke tunes in, maar werd er niet heel warm van. Be My Wife voelde als het enige 'normale' nummer, en die vond ik ook het leukst. Art Decade had wel wat rustgevends, en Weeping Wall had een coole creepiness. The last of SEVEN Bowie albums on this list for me to rate and, sadly, It's the worst. As one review already says, "...for me this was too dramatic and artsy with too many random sounds and instruments... I just didn't like it that much." Ditto.
Up to Sound and Vision : Album might be the type you play to have good background sound. Pretty repetitive so far. Almost a synthwave vibe on some tracks. Up to Weeping Wall : I'm bored.

I tried really hard to like this. This was my second time listening to the album from start to finish. I think the thing about Bowie is that if you don’t like one album, his next album could be better. Hopefully, that’s the case.

Not a fan, too many instrumentals
This is garbage. There's nothing danceable or poppy on this. It's Avant Garde rock jazz noodling, but then it had like new age/ambient bits to it as well. Not what I expected from David Bowie, and it's no wonder why I had never heard of it. Also, David Bowie has too many entries on the list.

Among the worst! Probably deserves 1.5 for not being distinctly uncomfortable, but this album deserves a LOW ranking.
The last David Bowie album we endured on this list was, at the time, the worst album suggested within the 1001. It has since been matched by the likes of hipster Elvis impersonator Nick Cave’s bloated 2004 project, and Irish posers U2, who released an absolute zero in 1987. Suffice to say, I am not looking forward to this. No disco to start. That’s good. It’s not good per se, but I’m happy it’s not disco. It’s a lame guitar riff with some fairly interesting alien weirdness happening in the background. But! If he’s not singing, I’m a happy fellow. BLUES GUITAR?? It’s fine. I was genuinely thinking this was an instrumental album and was so excited. His voice hit like nails on a chalkboard. Lame vocals, but instrumentally, this album has been decent so far. Oh god no. This sucks. Again, instrumentation is unique and I feel like it’s not an everyday album in that regard. David Bowie is not a talented vocalist. He’s very important culturally, but musically overrated due to that importance. It’s the celebrity president phenomenon. Sound and vision eh? So far I am envisioning hell, as the sounds filling my ears seem to be hold music for a surfing resort and the only way I’d be hearing those sounds is if I was suspended in some sort of purgatorial state. It’s almost like he’s recording and doesn’t want to wake his mom up. Oh no there is the unfounded confidence. Ok, the vocals ARE interesting and weird here, there’s just an element of poor taste somehow. This time I think the actual music let us down. This song is a big nothing. Boring. Desolate without any accompanying atmosphere. Cringeworthy vocals and lyrics. Break for caterwauling. Garbage. Obligatory riverboat revival song. This genuinely sounds like Tim & Eric. Which would be great, if it was. Considering it’s not, I can only take it as a genuine attempt to be a good song, which it was not. What the hell is going on. David Bowie ambient track? Giving this one a chance. This one did NOT need vocals. A nice experience other than the ham-fisted lion king vocals. It sounds like Sid Meier’s civilization menu music at this point. Another pass. Meh. What the fuck is this? Don’t moan at me. You produce interesting atmospheres and sounds and then you wail over top of it, completely decimating any subtlety or intrigue. Medieval garbage. Hearing less singing HAS been nice. Although it makes it harder when he does pop in for a wail, just to remind everybody he’s still the premier artist of our time. To be fair to this album, it was musically interesting and as abhorrent as I believe David Bowie’s singing and lyrics to be (not sure if he wrote his own to be fair), there was more intrigue here. However, I just can’t jump into the 2 territory as there is not enough to actually enjoy for me. Even the atmospheric ambient portions seemed to be dripping with pretentiousness. David Bowie is a cultural icon and a musical mystery. This is another lacklustre project from a vastly overrated musician. 1.5 HIGHLIGHTS: Ambient portions in the final few tracks.

Aptly named. This album is boring on first listen…and on all subsequent listens, I’m sure. Could be the soundtrack to a movie made by third graders, starring their cats, doing nothing. If this is Bowie drug-free, we are now better informed as to why musicians eat pills until they explode.

If I had purchased this album in 1977 it would have collected a lot of dust alongside my MC5 album. I am a fan of David Bowie but this album fails completely for me. One star or F as a letter grade.
Pretty daring to have a Bowie album with hardly any singing from Bowie (and the tracks that do feel really phoned in). The instrumentals seem to channel the worst of the Final Fantasy games, by the lesser composers, without any sense of theme.

Heard and love some of Bowie's popular songs but never a full older album. I listened to his last album after he died and it was good for one listen. Let's see how this one is. Ok, not good at all. Unsure on when this was in Bowie's career but it is not for me. Sounds like a movie soundtrack or background music in a theme park. Can't recommend ever listening to this.

- I think his music is just not it for me - sounds like beach music but he has an annoying voice - I saved ONE song that was decent just so I have a reference of David Bowie 💀 - instrumental sounds a bit like old nature documentary music - production isn’t horrible but once he opens his mouth it’s game over

Songs feel very unfinished. Lack of structure or even good timing. Many of them lazily fade out rather than actually ending. They are like half ideas for songs that got recorded and never went back to.

One of my greatest personal embarrassments is that I don’t understand the appeal of David Bowie’s music. It annoys the shit out of me. Please don’t ever tell the High Council of the Gays, they will strip me of my bisexuality and condemn me to hell.
I don't feel like I 'got it'. This is the first Bowie album I've ever listened to and it was underwhelming.
Absolutely unenjoyable to listen to. Feels like a collection of incomplete thought starters as opposed to a cohesive album. Some of the atmospheric tracks at the end of the album start to feel progressive and interesting but go nowhere.
Sound and Vision is easily the best track. Sounds like a low budget sci-fi soundtrack for the most part. Absolutely not his best work. Low is right.

This album sounded less a mess to my ears. Track 1 left me thinking “how long has this guitar riff been going?” Track 2 had me thinking “these lyrics are terrible - oh wait cool synth!” I liked track 3! The vibes were chill and the vocal was fun, though pretty basic. Was this album groundbreaking in some strange way? Maybe just being one of Bowie’s earlier albums? I don’t get why it’s on this list, not sure if I will continue listening.
I have heard the hype for David Bowie. Supposedly this is one of his best albums! After giving up halfway through I've become even more of a non-fan. (Sorry Dylan!) I usually pride myself in being able to enjoy many different genres and styles of music, and I almost never find nothing to like. But with David Bowie I just... don't get it, like, at all. Where others hear catchy pop songs, I hear unintelligible, uninteresting, cringe-inducing vocals set to disappointing and overwrought instrumentals. I sort of liked the experimental aspect of this album, the Brian Eno synthesizers and weird bloopy fun arrangements. But everything else was just barely listenable. Some of the songs I think were literally inducing a physical reaction of repulsion from my eardrums. I really would love to someday "get" David Bowie, but after listening to this one, I think that day is far, far away. The vocals make me feel like I'm sitting in a dirty diner bathroom about to throw up from eating too much corned beef. The instrumentals too, and the mix just makes me feel icky - I guess it's an acquired taste... Maybe it's just the 70s glam rock vibe that's putting me off. If you loved this album just ignore me, I'd never want to take away from someone's enjoyment of a piece of music. But I had to express my true feelings somewhere. DNF. Right when I got to "A New Career in Town," I had to turn it off.

Wasn’t the biggest fan of this album, the fact it was just purely music with no singing let it down seeing as Bowie is one of the best lyrical writers there has been. Not my cup of tea.
