Reviews (page 12 of 14)
Is it artsy? Yeah! Is it good? Debatable. I love me some ambient music, but after listening to this I don't really care to hear it on the regular. I think it's a neat album and can see why Bowie fans praise it since it expands his already wide range. It just isn't catchy and isn't memorable. It's cool as hell, but I wouldn't want to purchase it or anything. Sorry you had a bad time, Bowie.
A more mainstream and poppy sound than what I was expecting. The last couple of numbers are more experimental but I enjoyed it all.
It was okay, but I didn't really love it.
Escuchado...
Interesting? Yes. I don't know how important this is as a stand alone album, other than that it's hard to say how his later works would have turned out without this period. It's definitely a different listen...
Excellent themes, but a little slow
Zo engels dat ik het niet serieus kan nemen XD
Great album but some of the tracks just drag for a bit too long. The album has great peaks, Warszawa is an incredible, chilling track. 3.5/5.
Surreal. Felt Eno inspired. This is s Bowie album I've never heard.
Pretty good
Not my fave Bowie, but it gets an extra star for sound and vision
Creative. Ambient, sountrack
Disco instrumental con sonido muy de la época
5
I enjoyed it, but it didn't particularly move me. Frustrated by Spotify turning everything into a radio station. I just want it to stop when the album is over. Almost thought Rebel Rebel was on this album.
#First Random Album from m0n0d3lc0ng0 DR. Music of the 70s nice experience.
Not my favorite Bowie album but I do appreciate its inventiveness and I think if it I wasnt already in love with Bowie's other work I would probably like it more. I knew sound and vision but not any other song. I thought this might be one of the albums he worked with Brian Eno on and I'm right! It's the first one. I believe they used some of Enos Oblique Strategies to develop the songs.
Canciones como What in the world o Sound and vision están bien. La cara B del vinilo tiene temas sorprendentes como Warszawa, Art decade o Subterraneans experimentales y más parecidos a New Age o banda sonora que a algo que relacionemos con Bowie.
Not my favorite stuff from Bowie, but Sound and Vision and Warszawa are pretty nice
Pretty good interesting wasn’t Much singing
uneven but you just know that was the aim
I know Bowie was a legend or whatever, but I thought this album was kind of meh
Not for me at all. Just got bored through most of it
Switches between psychedelic and manic.
A good, not great Bowie album. I don't understand why people think all Bowie albums have to be great just because Ziggy Stardust is so amazing.
Good album, with the single Sound and Vision. The lasts tracks are more « ambient » music
Fav Song: Sound and Vision
Very "artsy". OK album but will probably not put on when I feel like listening to some David Bowie.
I don't know much Bowie but I feel like this isn't his best work
Ironically had recently added this to my private list of albums to “check out later”— an ongoing never-finished project- so I was glad to give this one a listen. The beginning of the “Berlin trilogy”, so I added all three incl. Heroes and Lodger. Bowie was newly sober for this record, which makes me think of my own ongoing relationship with substances. It’s forward-sounding, extremely unique stuff clearly influenced by loads of other music. I like this one a lot, 4 stars on its own but 5 in the grander context of these three records
As with most Bowie, I liked it... OK. I actually love his voice, but his music is pretty often on the "too weird to listen to regularly" side. However, I like this better than the Waits album. Still, can't give it 4 stars.
Not really Bowie hits I had heard before, but it had the original sound and vision which I enjoyed since I had only heard the cover. I can definitely hear how this album may have influenced future artists. It definitely has some elements that feel more modern than I might expect from an album from 1977.
Wasn’t my favourite Bowie, but not the worst.
7/10
första 6 bra resten meh
Ok David Bowie album, not my favorite but good.
To-delt, punk rock/ambient, Brian Eno, innovative trommer
More disjointed than I typically enjoy Bowie albums but he still fits the album sound to his personal style well
Nyt oli jo vähän parempaa Bowiee, pari kertaa pysty putkeen kuuntelee tuskastumatta ja tahtiakin tuli naputeltua menemään paikoin.
this is the second time this has given me a Bowie album, and the second time I've been impressed. But before listening to these albums, every song I'd heard from him (I guess all radio hits ofc) was kinda shit. would have given 4/5 but the last few songs were kinda pointless spacey not-quite-synthwave ambient duds.
Actually didn't grab me. Bit disappointing
Very instrumental focused album didn’t enjoy certain parts and felt very okay about others. Feels like a 2.5/5 to me.
This is Blondie's favorite album. The arcade noises on What in the World are not a welcome addition. They sound like sped up King Hippo noises. Just when I think I'm liking this album more, it has a track like Warszawa and I feel differently. I get the video game noises now. Art Decade could be the score for Final Fantasy VIII. These mostly instrumental sides on Heroes and Low just aren't great. The whole second side is like an emo video game soundtrack.
A few good songs but most of the album just faded into the background as weird instrumental music for me. I feel like an uncultured swine giving this a 2 but damn. Miss for me. Fave Song: Sound and Vision
I liked this less than the David Bowie album from two days ago.
Had some decent tunes but the last few really dragged and brought down my overall opinion of the album.
I didn't really enjoy this one. But also didn't listen to it with the most attention.
Not really my jam but shout out to the goat
Isch halt de Bowie. Ich weiss nicht warum diese Platte hier gelistet ist.
Too much droning
what the hell, sure
A reminder that even the legends can do some very average things.
Some enjoyable tunes in there but I found myself not too enthralled
Ugh. When I read "It didn't sell but the critics later loved it" I know into what I'm walking.
I've found a lot to like from Bowie in this list, but this ain't it.
This is too spacey for me. Do not like.
Ok?
lots of experimental sounds in this album track 3 caught me off guard and not in a good way, the experimental chip tune sound was not the vibe The classics on this album do bump it up a bit for me
Just because Bowie is an icon, doesn't mean everything he touches is gold. Half-written songs and snippets of lyrics in the first half, turgid ambient soundscapes in the second half. They're only on there because he'd already written a movie soundtrack and couldn't bear to throw it away. Rubbish. The thin white emperor isn't wearing any clothes
First half decent, second half weird.
Ультра претенциозная арт-хуйня, собранная из эмбиентов, звуков окружающего мира и каких-то заунывных рок-аккордов. Чувствуется что чел делал это на отходосах с наркотиков.
Pretty weak. Not my kind of thing with some endless soundscapes. Sound and Vision is the only banger on the album.
I mean I love The Duke and all but this smells of a passion project more than an album. I'm devastated.
Idk really know, it was just not really it …
Good listen if you’re floating through space or tripping balls
So very 80s... But it was 1976. So ahead of his time.i imagine this didn't set the world on fire when it dropped but picked up steam over the years. Apart from that though there isn't really a lot of substance here. There are better Bowie albums, I assume they will all show up here eventually. Curator must be a Bowie fan. I wonder who missed out so this could be included.
I don’t care for the man
Not for me
Highlights: Sound and Vision 2.6
No muy mi estilo, aburrido
I liked it, but it’s not the best Bowie album
Medio depre
mostly just vibes and noise but you know what, hell yeah
2/5
No es el mejor trabajo de Bowie, en serio quería que me gustara
Not my favorite, love sound and vision but that’s the only song worth listening to on this album
They can keep their weird little British artists the themselves. Just not sharing the appeal here.
There are some things Bowie made that I like, but no fan. Of Eno, either, by the way. There was nothing like that on this album, which was pretty boring, I must admit.
Bizarre Bowie album
Eh
There are many David Bowie albums on this list. Many of them are deservingly so, but for 'Low' it feels to me as if this list could have done without it. There is just too little on this album which is standing out. Tomorrow pretty much all of this album will be forgotten. 'Sound and Vision' is the most famous track on this album and the most memorable one. In addition to that one there is not a lot here. 2/5
есть вайб но я ниче не добавил
I guess I just don’t get it.
I guess I never realized how much of Montreal ripped off early Bowie.
Real sci-fi, space feeling music. Lots of songs without lyrics. Surprised me that Jez may be fond of this album, wouldn’t expect it from him.
Not terrible. A couple songs that weren’t bad but overall a bit inconsistent.
I just realized that this is the EIGHTH Bowie album I've gotten here. Already, I can tell that this wasn't one of his most commercial albums, despite being the start of his "Berlin Trilogy" in which tony Visconti and Brian Eno came together to help collaborate. That should pretty much tell you the story here. This is a very artsy and more electronic album that sort of zips by in the first half, then takes strange directions and opts for more melancholic ambience in the second half. Vocally, this is the least present Bowie has ever been on one of his own albums. That honestly soured me a bit. Bowie's vocal presence is what captivates us, not a bunch of moody synthesizers. The instrumentals were fine, don't get me wrong, but this was hardly a Bowie album in my eyes (despite his instrumental presence in the latter half). Can't help but be overly critical here.
Not a Bowie guy.
I really appreciate David Bowie but I’ve never been a huge fan of his music. The last half of this album resonated more for me. 2.5
Influential electro-rock album, but didn’t hit the sweet spot for me. I am again guilty of not having the best audio set-up, but still, this album felt very meandering and random to me. I’m a David Bowie fan, but this one just felt quite random and disjointed, and I couldn’t settle into its mood. Not my cup of tea
A Bowie album that I have never listened to, it was ok
4/10 I enjoyed this significantly less then the first Bowie album, the standout parts for me where the songs without lyrics.
no me gusto
no thanks lol
great background music
An interesting concept for this album with the back half being so abstract. I didn’t particularly enjoy that though.
I think Davids later stuff was a lot better most of this is just ambient sounds and for the 70s it was fine but it aged like milk.
Entry #4 from David Bowie (not to mention the Iggy Pop ones). All these songs are new to me. The first part of the album includes standard rock songs, and the last part includes instrumental/electronica music, which would be perfect for a museum or planetarium. I enjoyed the planetarium music more than the rock tunes, but none of it is memorable.
Firsy half a bit dull, nothing standing out Barren second handful, some nice sounds Ideal length
Well clearly this was a forgettable album because I don't really remember much of it. I remember Warszawa being very weird and not pleasant to listen to.
the generator must have been listening to me last night when I said "I guess I do like Bowie" and said now wait a second! Let's show you some of the stuff you won't like as much. Here we are. Third Bowie album and I am sure it won't be the last on this list. Least favorite so far and I think it'll get more and more 80s from here.
Idk not a huge fan tbh, i like the saxophones in some of the songs like subterraneans
Very vibes based, went a bit odd at the end.
די משעמם
I didn't get it....
Except for Sound and Vision, doesn't do anything for me. It was experimental, and I guess he liked the results, because he did the same thing on Heroes.
This album lost me on a wave of phase. Not sure why this is thought to be the first time any of the sounds were heard on an album. Countless UK prog bands were experimenting with various early synths, Be Bop Deluxe used phasers on guitar. Don't get the praise for what is to me maybe experimental for Bowie, but not for the general music of that era. Not an unlistenable album, but way overrated by some, as is most of Bowies work.
Good start, not sure what happened on the back half. Terrible
Tracks 2 and 3 are decent. The second half of the album is atmospheric but not engaging. Maybe it was good at the time?
Love David Bowie but this cup of tea ain’t mine.
1: Be My Wife 2: Breaking Glass 3: A New Career in a New Town
I think for 1977 this is incredibly ambitious. Nothing really hits the spot as much as sound and vision and thats because his screeching is kept to a minimum. As usual with Bowie if you like him you will love this. I do not and would rather not listen to this bobbins
As a huge Bowie fan, this album was unforgettable. Mostly instrumental, but not in any fun experimental way that I've come to anticipate from him.
Por momentos puede estar bien, pero nunca excepcional. La segunda mitad es mayormente instrumental, y podría llamarme más pero no lo hace. Una especie de álbum diferente? No sé, sigue siendo Bowie. No volvería a escucharlo.
Artists being artsy.
Not a bad album by any means, just very instrumental heavy. I think I just missed Bowies voice.
Starts off decently enough with a couple of good songs (Sound and Vision being the best), but then it devolves. A lot of it sounds like improvised experimentation. The second half of the record gets very tedious with long boring instrumentals. Bowie is an all-time great, but I don’t think this album is.
This............is disappointingly bad. 2.
Liked it more than Station to Station, but still doesn’t do much for me
Very extraterrestrial sci fi vibes
this is unlike anything bowie released prior, and i'm kinda happy he never went back to this style.
Sound and vision is good! The rest of this is not my favorite, like I can't hear the lyrics, hard to hum along to, and none of the storytelling I like about the Bowie songs I like. Great album cover tho he's so pretty. No! A weird 7 min song? Skip. The last three tracks on this I had to skip because they were too aggressively weird and boring. I think for 1977 this is like wildly out of the box, and that's cool, but I'd rather hear Hunky Dory or Ziggy, please.
Sound and Vision was the only song that was actually good
Not your best work man, “be my wife” cool tho
Never been a huge Bowie fan, like some of his songs. This is not a favorite album for sure.
Meh 5.4/10
Didnt gel with me. Not terrible. Not amazing.
I really dont care for this experimental era bowie had, the weird instrumentals on the back half make this album feel way longer that it actually was. Its just not for me
I'm not saying I would be mad if this album was playing but I also don't see myself waking up in the morning desperate to hear it, you know??
O fost ok
Not a fan of this. I bet Bolan would a done it better.
Naaahhhh. Wtf
I've not listened much to David Bowie before going into this, but of course I've heard his classics such as Space Oddity, so I went in expecting something similar, a poetry meets music kind of experience. However I was quite disappointed to find out that not only is it not poetry, there's barely any lyrics, I swear, he says like 2 full sentences through the entire album. And when your music is slow and monotonic, that's kind of a death sentence. I can see why people like it and I don't think its bad music, not by a long shot, but I expected more and it was really hard for me to not fall asleep while listening to it.
It's... fine. Kind of boring to me, mostly because it's not my sound really. Still a good album, so lowering the score just because it's not my kind of music would be rude of me. Favs: Sound and Vision
He made some goated songs but not this time fr what the hell
Aødri skjøt mæ på bowie. Bortsett fra det som e bra såklart
raro, muy musical, definitivamente no es mi estilo, 2/5
Umm the album was not appealing to me
4/10
I hate to give this album such a ¨low¨ ranking but it's a fucking slog, isn't it? I can see what he was going for, I respect it, I don't enjoy most of it.
Yeah I think this seals it. I’m just not a Bowie fan. I think this is the 4th(?) Bowie album I’ve had and it’s one the better ones but I still didn’t love it. Good moments but not much more than that for me.
I just don’t get it.
i would say listen to this album if your a fan of experimenting with new instruments and music styles but me personally i didn’t find this album intriguing as it didn’t have any lyrics
If you are a classic Bowie fan, then this is an interesting offering. I like hearing hints of electronica that be more popular in the 1980s. Many of the tracks are whimsically dark instrumentals which may serve as good background music for thoughtful dream like videos. At the end of the day, it will probably not be an album I'd put in my top 100.
Ehhhh not really my style but it was a good listen. I enjoyed dancing around my kitchen while baking & listening to this (while singing made up songs to the beats, to my cats lol) Objectively it's a good album, subjectively...? I really just didn't like it. Favorite song(s) - Art decade Rating 1-5 ~ 2 (OBJECTIVELY!)
Naturally, very strange and all over the place.
ehhhh....
Not his best
Found it quite boring tbh
Ben buna da yükselmedim… space oddity dışında Bowie yok mlsf
Just not my listen. I like spots of the recording.
Not really my cup of tea. I more so prefer Bowie’s energetic, space-sounding music. The instrument only songs were especially dreadful to me. I’m sorry, but I cannot listen to 5 minutes of the same experimental jazz sequence. Bowie has all of my respect, but this was not good.
Not into all the instrumentals Faves probably Sound And Vision and Be My Wife
mood neige prime mais sinon trop d’instru pour moi
A little too experimental for my taste, I can appreciate what people do like about it, however it doesn’t tickle my ear the right way
🫤
I enjoyed the electronic nature to the album, there were a lot of instrumentals though which is not usually my preference
Very whimsical reminds me of a movie soundtrack
The uniqueness and tone of this block of songs does make it riveting, but many songs sound the same and fall flat for me. It grew on me and I will listen again.
A few cool moments, but really not Bowie's best.
The first half felt disjointed and not very “organic” (probably intentionally), but it’s not for me. I preferred the ambient side: the atmosphere works and is quite evocative overall, but it’s not something I’m likely to feel like revisiting
not my vibe pero def no es un mal álbum, no soy fan de tantos temas full instrumentales, es un álbum como trippy or wtv
2.5 - ok but ambient music ain’t very interesting
Started off not for me, but enjoyed the last 4 songs.
Not a fan of bowie
Very low
not my favourite type of genre, but i like the song always crashing in the same car
Track 1. (Speed of Life) Other than the fact that it has no lyrics, it's a good intro to what the album will sound like. Can't really rate it fairly tho since it's not an actual song. Fire melody tho. 6/10 Track 2. (Breaking Glass) very short and hardly any lyrics but still a banger tbh. but like it's so short I can't really rate it too high 6.7/10 Track 3. (What in the World) interesting instrumental, can't tell if I like it or not. veryyy 70's, which I do like. It's hard not to be biased because David is one of my favourite artists ever, so I still like this song. 6.9/10 Track 4. (Sound and Vision) Love the instrumental so much its just cool and catchy. Annoyingly long intro, so it doesn't leave much for David's actual singing, but that's fine. 7.2/10 Track 5. (Always Crashing in the Same Car) Cool, very David again. Not many lyrics again, mostly just instrumental, and the lyrics were lowkey random lol. 6.5/10 Track 6. (Be My Wife) I can't lie, the lyrics are just borderline dumb and don't make sense, not in a campy way but just in a bad way. I mean its not so bad, but not amazing, which is my standard for David, is probably higher than most artists. 5.4/10 Track 7. (A New Career in a New Town) Interesting instrumental, but I like it. God, why does David hardly sing in this album? His voice is something that makes his music so good and stands out. Whatever, it had so much potential, so why no singing ugh... 4/10 Track 8. (Warszawa) also... literally no lyrics... 20 words to be exact in a bloody 6 MINUTE SONG. please why are they silencing you David? Also kinda scary lol, what is he yapping about? 2/10 Track 9. (Art Decade) no. goddamn. lyrics. please im getting tired of this. also very eery, maybe I'm not cool enough for this, but whatever. 2.5/10 Track 10. (Weeping Wall) so your actually fucking with me now, likeeee no lyrics again?!?!? ok bye, girl. I get one, maybe one or two silent interludes, max 3 mintutes but this is borderline unlistenable. its giving i saw alien spaceships. 2.3/10 Track 11. (Subterraneans) yeah okay, not any better, 18 words and 5 minutes long, it's not even a good instrumental. so dissapointed tbh. bye. 3.5/10 Notes: really sad this album wasn't good, sorry not sorry I wanted it to be, and I really thought it would be getting a 5 stars, more like 1 or 2. Final score: 4.8/10
holy NOTHING BURGER. this album feels like bowie got bored halfway through the recording session and decided to contact his mother ship. favorite song: breaking glass least favorite song: art decade
Two years after the funky Young Americans, Bowie comes back with something different, but it still very much sounds like Bowie, and I expected something colder and darker. The electronic elements are pretty light during the first half, and there’s still a lot of organic, groovy material. I think I would’ve preferred something more radical, more Berlin-style. The second half leans more in that direction, but it feels closer to film music without the rock elements and you can clearly feel Brian Eno’s touch. Slightly disappointing since I was expecting something closer to Neue! (a band I really enjoyed). I don’t dislike it but I don’t like it either.
Totally wasn't in the mood for this. Also felt a bit disjointed. All the songs were trying to be something that didn't fit together for me. Very mythical and 80s. Maybe a version of the Labyrinth soundtrack?
This was his 11th studio album? How many fucking albums did this guy make?
Atmospheric and more background music than serious listening
What the??? Not good at all. 2
I know I’m going to catch some flack for this, but I just can’t get into David Bowie. It’s not him, it’s me. This album actually started off pretty strong, and for a minute I thought this might be the one that finally clicks. Then the second half hit, and it kind of lost me. Once it turns into mostly synthesizers and atmosphere, my interest just dropped off. I get what he was going for, and I understand why people respect it, but it just didn’t do much for me as a listener. I respect Bowie’s influence and creativity, but this ended up being more of a chore than an enjoyable listen.
A couple of these tracks have been in my instrumental focus playlist. But overall, it's...weird and makes me sleepy. This is not the Bowie for me. Listened before? N Saved to library? N Favorite track(s): Sound and Vision ⭐⭐: Didn't like it, didn't hate it. Saved no tracks.
Maybe this is the one. That once in a million album that finally ignites your passion for David Bowie. From now on you’re going to throw out your Tom Petty shirts and wear Bowie shirts It only took 9 other Bowie albums for this!! Update: this is not the one
Never liked that brit
I don't like david bowie He shoot arrowie with his bowie
I like Bowie but this album is not it
I’m not a huge David Bowie fan but this one is pretty good.
not the best bowie.
Oh god. The heroin addled Bowie tries to convince us he matters! Later and earlier he did but this album seems to me to be the worst excesses of Eno and the worst excesses of Bowie. I know it’s a trilogy, but heroes is enough. I will admit Bowie might be in that rare coterie who could take up 3 or 4 spaces on this list. But not with this one.
Strange. I don’t love the vibes.
Очередной альбом Боуи. Но я ожидал услышать хотя бы старый рок. А услышал странное инструментальное чёрт знает что.
Might be my least favorite Bowie album. Lots of atmosphere but not a lot of Bowie. I get that it’s him experimenting with electronic music but almost half of it is instrumental. Not exactly what I’m looking for from a Bowie album.
Im sorry but i really dont like david bowie idk why maybe its too experimental for me idk
only liked subterraneans.
didnt connect with this at all. started to appreciate it more on the backhalf, but it was a slog to get there for me. could see it being a 3 for some point, but i can't give it on merit
Gotta be honest, that was kinda boring. I'm starting to question why Bowie was so famous, sure he had a few cool songs, but....
It's Bowie, which means it has to be great, right? Except for when it isn't. This was a mediocre album. Interesting in that there were two distinct sides to this record, but the front half was vastly superior to the second half. He was pretty experimental on the back side, but this didn't really hit at all for me. Just long, drawn out tunes that didn't have a whole lot to them. Frankly, I found them all to be wastes of space. The actual songs on the front of this record were decent, but nothing was spectacular. Pretty average. So 1/2 X 3 + 1/2 X 1 = a 2-star record. He's made much better music than this.
lots of interesting sounds in this album, but didn't enjoy quite that much
1. Speed of Life - 5 It's an instrumental but there's nothing overly fantastic about it. There's some interesting but defintiely out of place sounds used on the track. The guitars are in that classic Bowie style though and they're probably the highlight of the track alongside the drums. 2. Breaking Glass - 3 It's a really short but very dull track. Lyrically it's nothing phenomenal and instrumentally it's not very good either. 3. What in the World - 4 Not a very good track. Slightly better than Breaking Glass but it's still lyrically all over the shop and there's some instrumentals used on the track that are unpleasant. 4. Sound and Vision - 5 It's okay. Nothing about this is anything extraordinary. Instrumentally it's a lot more enjoyable than the previous three tracks but it's overall still missing the spark a normal Bowie track has. 5. Always Crashing in the Same Car - 5 It's another okay song. Lyrically it's the strongest so far but it's still nothing overly phenomenal. A lot of this album so far has been very bang average. 6. Be My Wife - 6 I love the way this track starts, especially with the piano. Outside of that it's okay. Not the best love song you'll ever hear. 7. A New Career in a New Town - 4 Fluff of an instrumental track. 8. Warszawa - 7 Much better instrumental track. Very moving at times but also sounds quite dated now. It's still a decent track overall. 9. Art Decade - 3 Like a bad 80s futuristic movie track. Almost like something that belongs on a Blade Runner soundtrack. 10. Weeping Wall - 3 Exactly the same problem as Art Decade. 11. Subterraneans - 4 I like the sax on here but that's about the only redeeming thing on the track. Average Rating: 4.45 Adjusted to 5-Point Scale: 2.23 Rounded Down: 2 Stars
Listened to it while unpacking the suitcase after coming home - was more irritated by the indsrumentals than anything else. I‘d expect the album could grow on me by listening to it more carefully. As background it‘s more creepy than enjoyable.
I don’t know what to say about this one. Bit disappointed. Strange album although not entirely sure what I was expecting.
Very different to his mean stream things, listening in the car mostly. More instrumentals than I expected, and didn't enjoy it that much. I think he has better albums.
interesting
It is a good Bowie album but I am not a fan of Mr. Bowie.
Marginally okay
I am so tired of David Bowie!
I like Bowie a lot. I did not care for this album
I just do not understand Bowie. I'm trying, but I just don't get the appeal.
Not his finest work in my opinion. Nothing else to say really.
Love sound and vision, can that one track make this an essential album? Side A is good, carried by a great backing band, however some songs seem unfinished. The B side is rough with a lot of experimental plinking and plonking.
Some of the material on here blew me away considering this was made in the 70's, especially the last song, however a lot of it felt kinda boring.
I hold Bowie in fairly high regard. Lots of people hold this album in very high regard. I'm not one of them. It has a few good tracks, but the Eno-influenced/-provided keyboards overall don't do it much good. My least favourite of the Berlin trilogy.
Just not a Bowie fan…
I can't say I'm the biggest Bowie fan, I need to do a deeper dive on him one day but it doesn't grip me at this point in my life
This one was pretty experimental. Not sure that it was for me.
I'm in the extreme minority as someone that doesn't get/like Bowie and this is the center point of my reasoning. This album is a very niche approach to making music. 2.5/5
A bit too abstract for my taste.
Not a big fan.
Não gostei muito mas pronto
Bowie is a music god but this felt like Temu Bowie!
just struggle with bowie. always have, sadly i presume i always will
Not really this one
A low point in David Bowie's career. Favorite Track: "Speed Of Life".
A couple of decent songs and some good guitar work. "Low" is an apt title for this album as I felt lower than a snake's belly in a ditch after listening to the second half of it.
Nettamente peggio dell'altro. Non so il perché
1,7/5
meh
I love Bowie but man what a snoozer. Why listen to a Bowie album when it does not highlight the best part of listening to a Bowie album which is Bowie himself. Instrumentals from a pop singer is dumb.
Name reflects my opinion of it.
I’m instrumental part of the album was great.
Sorry Bowie I just dont like your music
Bowie took more risks on this album than his previous ones I’ve gotten, and it does not pay off for him in my opinion
Bowie has better albums!
Meh. Didn't need to hear this before I died tbh.
Indeed a low!
I bit too jittery for my taste
5/10
An interesting listen without having any stand out classics. You can feel the influence on later works here, especially in the latter half of the album, but there wasn't a lot to really hold my attention. Minus one star for a needless sax solo.
Weird is all I can say. I can appreciate wanting to experiment with different sounds, but this one fell flat for me.
Not his best album, but it was interesting
really boring sounds like something that would be playing in a star wars scene. not my thing i almost fell asleep.
Can't say I loved this
it wasn’t too memorable! I think David Bowies songs/singles stand out. plus a lot of instrumentals that didn’t vibe with me
This album feels very incoherent. Not sure what his head space was during the making of this one. Some good individual tracks but they don’t vibe with each other. The mood is all over the place.
Not one of his good albums.
It's kinda like if David Bowie did a soundtrack for an indie movie and he had a sore throat so he couldn't sing at all that day.
Complex album. First listen I did not liked much/at all, sounded like some rolling stones the opening track, then some instrumental, too much too flashi.. however, I gave a secong and even third listening, and it grows on you. It will not be more thatn a 3,5 starts. But to be frank with the other records I judged on a first listenint this is a 2 star. Definitely not my favourite Bowie album.
Never a huge David Bowie fan and this album confirms my general sentiment. Was hoping to find at least one “new” song that I’d want to listen to again. Favorite track probably “A new career in a new town” but purely instrumental, which is really not my thing, and repetitive. C-
Disappointed with this album
Overall quite disappointed with this one. Definitely my worst Bowie album so far. The instrumental tracks at the end genuinely bored me. Top Track - Sound And Vision
Low as in a low point for Bowie. This didn’t work for me.
Overrated
dårlig bowie
Pretty low on my list of Bowie albums tbh Best Song: Be My Wife Rating: 4.0/10 Stars: 2/5
Oh, it's THIS David Bowie album. Sound And Vision is the first track I recognise, good tune (first on the album), like it. Everything else is ok at best. The second half of this album seems dominated by the Brian Eno / Krautrock sound, but I like both of those things more than I like this take on them. Wikipedia has a very long article on this and then every individual track on it bar one. I think that's too much attention.
Weird even for Bowie
Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Ja, geht so.
This album was like walking back to your car with your wife after eating dinner at a restaurant. Your car is in a parking building and you're not 100% which level you parked on. After about 10 minutes, you find your car, only to realise your wife has been talking to you non-stop along the way. You haven't really been listening to her conversation.
This album has enough standing and history for it to be genius. But I didn't get it at all.
Crazy that this dude is a pedophile.
Weird. But not what I normally think of Bowie weird to sound like. Ambient boring weird. Wasn’t offensive weird, mostly just forgettable. We hit another Low moment with this album
Weird and hard to listen to
feels like im listening to the dune soundtrack with no lyrics
Just didn’t click for meeeee
Sound and vision is a good song, wasn’t aware that the second half would be part nature documentary and part blade runner soundtrack. Kinda cool but not something I think to be great
I don't know - I just never click with this album at all
as with anything involving brian eno, synths are ever present. i normally am a bowie fan, but i just don’t get this album.
As much as I love David Bowie this is definitely not one of his better albums
Not a huge Bowie fan, couple good ones though
I'm a fan of Bowie, but I just couldn't get into this album. The ambient tracks are pleasant, but in my opinion, overstay their welcome. I have no problem with instrumental tracks, but the ones on this album felt like they went nowhere and had no payoff or catharsis. fav track: "Sound and Vision" 2.5/5 Great musicianship as always, but not my favorite era of Bowie.
I do not get the David Bowie thing
I'm just not a Bowie guy unfortunately, not my fav
This is like my 500th Bowie album on this list and my patience is worn thin with him 1. Terribly repetitive atonal noise and not worth my time 2. By the time I decided to skip this track, it was already over, so that was kind of a blessing 3. More of the same. Skipped 4. A worse version of Hand Jive with coffee dripping on the burner. 5. Just plain not interested in this 6. There was no point going past the first verse/chorus and I don't know why I did 7. Not offensive, so I listened all the way through 8. Um, alright? Skipped ⅔ of the way through 9. Skipped. No value for me 10. This wasn't bad, but at this point I'm really looking forward listening to something else 11. See 10 I just can't with this guy anymore. After my album ended yesterday, it started a station based off the last track. Mississippi Kid by Lynyrd Skynyrd was the first track on that station, and I had a great time remembering that song. That's where I'm headed now ⭐⭐
Ears ringing from the feedback
Weird… weird … weird!
No me gustó. Nada
This is my first listen for this particular Bowie album. I wasn't particularly impressed with this effort by Bowie. The side A songs didn't really do anything for me personally, like other works by Bowie have. Side B was an interesting foray into an ambient experience with Brian Eno. Interesting in the sense that I was unaware he made ambient soundscapes with Eno at all. The songs themselves however are not. ....Is what my initial impression was of this album honestly. This morning I relistened to the album. Same thoughts about side A of the album...but I enjoyed side B much more this time around. Though Weeping Wall didn't seem like it really fit with the other 4 tracks. Maybe Eno and Bowie should have just done a full length ambient album together.
Not my cup of tea at all, really struggled to finish this. Sorry.
Kind of whack ???
Bowie - stick with rock and roll man. You are not to write ambient stuff. The first half is OK but then you get into that ambient back half and while ambient music can be enjoyable it seems Bowie doesn't really know how to make it interesting in any way. If half stars where an option this would be a 2.5. Since I gave this a 3 the first time around I'll average it out by giving it a 2 this time. Give me Byrne and Eno over Bowie and Eno any day.
Warszawa through the end of the album was nice. The journey to get there was painful.
I can see why he called it Low. Listening to this is a bit like doing maths homework - I know it’s important, and making the effort now might lead to greater things, but, ugh, do I have to? At times, it clicks into place and makes glorious sense, and I can hear how it influenced those post-punk, synth-pop records that I love, but for the most part, it just gave me a headache. Can I have a snack?
Not for me
That was an unexpected Bowie album. A lot of it was very ambient, and therefore, not very interesting.
im sorry isaac and david
not my fave david bowie record!
It was mid af
Didn’t connect with me 4/10
Second album in the Bowmeister chronicles. It's been a while since the last Bowie album, though I've been sidequesting in the bowntiful fields of his musical legacy in the time since then. I listened to the Bowie-produced Lust for Life along with Brian Eno's debut album, the style of which apparently informed Eno's approach with the Berlin trilogy. My first Bowie album - Heroes - surprised me with how quickly the pop rock sound shifted towards an ambient/electronic jig. I was also surprised to learn that this album... does the exact same thing. Is he like this on every release? For what it's worth, the ambient stuff is pretty competent, even if the sheer abundance of it loses me. "Warszawa" is a good song - I like the grandiose feel and the music is surprisingly intricate during the second half. I can see the Eno influence peeking through, especially on "Weeping Wall". Glad to know that this list is actually teaching me something about music. That being said, I think I prefer the ambient material on Heroes over the showings of this album - especially "Moss Garden". The beginning of side one is incredibly slow. The first three tracks slog along and don't really go anywhere thanks to their short runtimes . I do appreciate "Sound and Vision", however. That song was a good cut. "What In the World" is also a song I respect. The jittery sound doesn't quite work for me, though it's certainly unique. Gotta study for the millennium album pop quiz that I just know Mr. Dimery is gonna hit me with. That's right, I'm voluntarily committing time to reading the book like a true lame ass. Let's see. A left turn in his discography and an album which came from adversity. This was the album in which Bowie adopted a krautrock influence. Bowie considered it a high point. I mean, it belongs to one of the most famous "eras" within an artist's discography. I can't knock the inclusion of this album, even if the entry didn't do much to sell me on it.
David Bowie is a hero. I think Low is far from one of his best albums. I'll go for Scary Monsters
not one of his best
I feel like I don’t like this album but I’m probably wrong. Also this list not picking the best album by artist is 10 out of 10. Cool cover bad record.
Maybe in some setting I would like this one. Didn’t work for me in rush hour.
Much more instrumental than i had expected from him
Van de 11 nummers vindt ik enkel 'Sound en Vision' mooi. Misschien moet ik het album nog een paar keer horen om tot me door te laten dringen, maar ik vindt het nu pretentieus en saai....
Rating: 2 Notable songs: Sound and Vision Strange album. Lack of songs with words. Not my cup of tea.
The ambient parts were the best. 2/5
Not his best album. Not really my style.
Just because it’s david Bowie does not mean it should be on this list
