Reviews (page 13 of 13)

A whole album of Lauper is far too much Lauper.

Big hair, big shoulders, big produced MTV videos, big synths all the hallmarks of the flamboyant 80’s. At the time it was all good but looking back everything was a bit naff. My ex-wife liked Cyndi Lauper and even styled her hair like her but I won’tlet this cloud my judgement. In fact it was refreshing to play some of her songs again and there are one or two tracks on here which symbolise 80’s music and remind me how rubbish a lot of 80’s pop songs were. I do not like Cyndi’s tinny voice and the weak and thin production of the album only highlight her vocal limitations. Time After Time is the best song on here and one I really like. I wonder if it has ever been covered by someone with a stronger voice? Probably has, but I can’t really be bothered to find out. Which is my attitude to the whole album. Whilst it revives memories of that time, some good some bad, it firmly belongs in that time and should rarely be exposed. 1.999/5 (Time After Time makes it a 2) 7/4/24

Too much 80s pop sound.

Yeah Yeah, Money Changes Everything, but Time After Time Girls Just Want To Have Fun. It was alright…

Very 1983. Time After Time is wonderful. Girls Just Want To Have Fun is... Fun. Not an album you MUST hear before you die.

It's 'ok'

Couple of bangers, pretty good.

Too "poppy" for my taste.

Her voice annoys the bajongles out of me

She too loud to be so hit or miss

Not for me

Every song sounds the same

Damn this lady is annoying as hell, she only gets a pass for creating Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Time After Time

I get why it’s popular. Cyndi can definitely sing. Not really my thing though.

When it started I thought "Wow! 3 hits in the first 4 tracks? I can't wait to hear the rest of this!" I should have waited a long, long time.

I don’t like her voice. When You Were Mine is a worse version of the original and I really like that song.

Decent for 80s. But I don’t like her voice.

Some fun songs, some are meh.

Never been a fan of 80s music Top tracks: Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Time After Time

I really don't like this album but I have to admit that there was some surprises in there like Time After Time and Yeah Yeah. -Put a second singer in the chorus of Time After Time was a great idea but maybe it's a common thing in the 80's. She gots a beautiful and powerful voice so I will give a chance to other albums in hopes I like at least one more song. I will try this record again later... but my opinion will surely be exactly the same as today. Fav song : Time After Time Worst song : She bop (I hope to never listen to this song again)

Has some bops but others I seemed to tune out or parts of songs I liked but not the full thing.

Pop with a squeaky voice, quite nice but nothing more.

Very 80's production. A couple of great singles but the rest feels like fodder.

time after time is banger, and all through the night was cool

#117. The hits were good, but the rest were... misses if we're being honest. The gap in quality of the songs on this album is wide. Those two songs were good, but the rest of it was pretty nopey for me. 2/5: nah

There are some really nice pop songs on this album, even if it is not something I would usually choose to put on. It is unapologetically eighties. Bright, bold and full of character. At times it feels very much of its era, which is probably why it is not one I would revisit regularly. That said, there is no denying the strength of the big singles. I absolutely love Time After Time. It is a beautiful, timeless song with genuine emotion at its core. Girls Just Want to Have Fun is pure pop joy. Catchy, energetic and impossible not to smile along to. Those two tracks alone make the album worth hearing. Favourite songs: Time After Time and Girls Just Want to Have Fun Least favourite: The deeper cuts do not leave much of an impression Album artwork: Colourful and very eighties. Instantly recognisable and full of personality

Some good 80's songs

Didn't like it

All through the night es bastant pastel.

Not for me. Some decent songs and funky instrumentals I like but I'm not a fan of the vocals or lyrics in a lot of the songs.

There’s a reason why only two songs made the big time. She sounds like Betty Boop.

it's a decent pop album, still not for me

bad :(

Not my thing

She really is so unusual

Odd album. That Betty Boop thing made me realize you're right about how many albums sneak a skit in. I find this uses vocals more as an instrument versus a standard album. Everything from inflections to the harmonies I can feel the audio engineers layering tracks for the sound more than to tell a story or something. Not exactly my jam, very commerical sounding. Likely a product of the time that did more than I feel that I'm underappreciating.

I like the flow of the song choices. Its a fun pop album. I think the production could be stronger. The synth works on some songs, but I'm longing for a lot less on some of these tracks. Obviously has some hits. Time after Time and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. I've heard her do better versions of Time after Time.

A lot of my friends had this album in high school, but I did not. Girls Just Want to Have Fun is annoying, but True Colors is cool, lots of kitschy novelty filler.

I wanted to like this more than I did. "She's like a cool Madonna" they said. If that's true, I guess I'm just not cool. I find the hits to be overly cheesy and the other stuff too grating.

God this album is really 80's. Very dated for sure

Laulajan ääni alkaa tuntua ärsyttävältä pidemmän päälle. Pari biisiä vielä menisi. Ei tämä musiikkilaji oikein iske.

Catchy tunes and some famous songs. Her voice is just hard to listen to.

I find her voice annoying. Didn't care for it

The voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me

The style is not my thing but it is a listenable album and it has a couple of solid hits.

I can’t hear the song “Amie” by Pure Prairie League without thinking of the time I was picking up Travis from the graveyard shift at the Chipotle in the Med Center, and bam, the Walmart version of Kurt Cobain totaled my Toyota Avalon at the intersection of Main and Dryden. That was the song playing on the radio. A flashbulb memory, so to speak. I can’t hear the song “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper without thinking of the time Chris and I were driving down Montrose and a couple of inebriated pedestrians nearly fell into my passing car. While a close call in the moment, the song’s opening few seconds quickly became our shared anthem for quick comic relief in nearly any situation. A very-near-miss flashbulb memory, I suppose. Aside from Lauper’s most popular track, though, the album doesn’t have a whole lot to offer for those somewhat averse to the poppiest music the eighties had to offer. The other high point is “Time After Time,” which I can’t listen to without just thinking of Napoleon Dynamite. Vote for Pedro, I guess.

Time After Time and Girls Just Wanna Have fun are absolute classics, but the rest of this album was super hard for me to get through. Cyndi's vocals get to me after awhile. I liked the little He's So Unusual interlude though.

the sound texture of this is montage music, the sort of thing that's good when you're driving around town or getting ready for a fun event Listening at home, it makes me unhappy and right away I want to turn it off. 'Time After Time' is a classic hook but one I've never liked music: hated. (⌐■_■)

This vibe is Breakfast at Tiffanies, 16 candles. It’s so 80s.. fronted by Cindy.. I hear a bit of Gwen Stefani in Witness. No double this was an influence. So much synth and 80s. I don’t think I would revisit this album on my own accord, but there are several hits on this album that make an an essential 80s one.

Way too 80's pop for me, but I understand the cultural significance

Catchy tunes, but also not for close listening - lyrics are a bit stupid.

this was mid af... the songs either sounded like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Nr.2 or boring af... Just not good...

This hurt my ears. Time After Time is excellent, and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun reminds me of watching TOTP in the 90s when it was rereleased (Cyndi with a bright yellow bob). Otherwise I don't think it's aged very well.

didn’t like this as much as i was hoping, really only vibed with the singles i already knew. eighties pop synth is fun but this was beating me over the head with it and the charm of her betty boop voice only carries so far on the record. i understand the critics who felt fatigue set in on the back stretch of born to die when it was first released more now.

What's great about it?

Girls and Time are good. Nothing else really stood out

Boooo. Well executed but dated

You know it's dire when you forgot you listened to this album already. That's right, I didn't see it rated so I said, "drat! Gotta go listen." And guess what? Holy hell is this forgettable. It's so disappointing because Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is a queer club staple. Well, surprise surprise, that song wasn't really the highlight--in fact I'd reckon it only stays in my head because of the hours I spent dancing to it. Time After Time and the opener (uh, what was it again?) are okay. I can't really recommend everything else. Honorable mention goes to When You Were Mine, that started okay and was so grating that by the end of the song I wanted to tear a turntable needle through my collection of OST vinyls to get something that would've sounded better anyway.

A lot going on here. Money Changes Everything is a fine opener. Time After Time is a good ballad. She Bop is a decent synth pop tune. After that, it's a no from me. I get why people like it. I'm surprised Cyndi Lauper didn't have a bigger career. This was a huge album back in the day. But it isn't for me.

day 3 and ooof. I could get through the first half ok, but started to get exhausted by the time Witness came around, and found I'll Kiss You to be physically painful. It's a relatively short album that felt much longer. Cyndi Lauper is undeniably iconic and can do insane things with her voice, but it can be very grating. I've just found I can only take her in small doses and much prefer the more ballad-y songs. That being said, there are some classics here and I'll probably find myself getting even the most annoying ones stuck in my head at some point, so she did a lot of things right. I probably wouldn't choose to listen to the album on my own though. 2/5 Faves: Time After Time, All Through the Night, When You Were Mine

soundtrack to 80s comedy be like

At first, I was surprised to find I quite liked this. Then, my initial suspicions were confirmed: Cyndi’s charm does not wear well. The hits are the hits. One of them is a certified heater and an essential song of summer. The other sounded better in my head, or in some movie soundtrack I can’t remember, but it’s still pretty good. “Money Changes Everything” was the only genuine discovery here and is the opening track that had me thinking I’d be surprised. But alas, “She Bop” through “Yeah Yeah” + “When You Were Mine” is pretty darn dreadful. I skipped around a lot. The production of these songs sounds like keyboard presets. These are “Weird Al” Yankovic beats. The lyrics are somehow even worse. Total Novelty 80s. Complete with keyboard necktie. “All Through the Night” is okay. But boy does that synth riff get on my nerves. The additional synth solo over that already-obnoxious synth riff sounds like Walt Disney’s “Main Street Electric Light Parade” and not in a good way. It doesn’t do Ms. Lauper’s shrill any favors. But hey, she’s just wantin' to have fun! Who am I to take that away from her? Nobody. I’m nobody. 2/5. Edit: Well, it turns out Cyndi has great test in music (better than I), for she chose great songs to cover here—The Smiths, Prince—choices that went right over my head. Also cool to hear this droll that is “She Bop” is secretly about masturbation. Which bump (bops) it up a point. Maybe this album is better than I’m crediting it for. But I’m sticking to my guns. Still 2/5.

not a big fan of Cyndi but a nice album none the less

Fun! Nothing really special. Some good hits but others were quite grating. Not bad. 2.5

Mais quand même deux gros classiques: Time after Time et Girls Just Want to Have Fun..

It has some famous bops on it but its mostly a bore

Not my style but still not terrible. I'm giving it a hard 2.5 stars.

Not my kinda music but I could see it being fun 40 years ago. Guys wanna have fun too.

It has really good moments and really bad moments. The singles were really good but the album cuts weren’t that great. It got more boring and annoying as it went on.

Some great singles and responsible for bringing Captain Lou Albano to the masses. But essential as a whole, doubtful. 2/5.

I only know two Cyndi Lauper songs, and one of them is on this album, so it's all good. Oh, wait! I know this one too!! (Time After Time) Not terrible, but not that good either. 2 / 5 stars.

I really tried to listen, but only made it through 3 songs. I respect Cyndi, but this album did a bit too much cocaine.

It was fine. Not really a fan

80s noises DNF girls want to have fun goes reasonably har

Some good tunes here but I just don't personally love this v punk poppy sound all that much.

I like female vocals on rock tracks. Enjoyed it, but wouldn't listen to the whole album against. Two standout, famous tracks: 2) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun 4) Time After Time

decent '80s pop album with all the hits, and?

This is reason I don't find 80s pop music. This is annoying. The big hits are good but other then that wasn't great.

A couple famous songs on the album that are enjoyable but otherwise it's just not my style of music. I can't see myself listening to the album except for the few singles and even then only as an 80's playlist.

If someone asks me what synthpop is I'll show them this album. It's a glimpse to the 80's. The synth parts haven't aged that well in my opinion but Cyndi Lauper's singing style is timeless.

It was alright, I've heard it before.

There are some absolute classics on this album. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time are basically required listening. Beyond that, I found the rest of the tracks to be pretty much just worse versions of the hits, repetitive sounds, gaudy synths and Lauper's nasally voice all wore pretty thin for me as the album went on. I still think it's worth a listen, but for me I'll take the hits and leave the rest. Fav Tracks: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Time After Time, All Through The Night

Money Changes Everything - uh oh, this has everything I dislike about 80s music. Which is louder: synth, vocals, or guitars? Yes. Plus chord progressions. Harmonica? Pick a genre Cyndi. Girls just want to have fun - I've heard this song umpteen times and I just don't like it. When you were mine - [Stranger Things tinkling intensifies] Time After Time - classic sappy rom-com material. Might be the only song that I don't actively dislike. Was this in the Breakfast Club? She Bop - She don't. All through the Night - [STRANGER THINGS TINKLING IS INTENSE] (the first BLAM made me jump and think there was some sort of emergency for about 2 seconds) Witness - of course the only song I like is synth reggae reverb. Spliff time bois, let's go. I'll Kiss You - Brown note activated mid song, brb. He's so Unusual - hello my baby, hello my honey, hello my ragtime gal.... (For any Community fans: this baby girl talk really has diminishing returns) Yeah Yeah - I also want sushi Cyndi.

I don't really like her screechy voice and the production is a bit overbearing on some of the tracks. Couple of recognisable hits (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time) and these are the best numbers, but even they're nothing special. It's all a bit meh really.

One good single and a load of inconsequential fluff. Not a great recipe for an album.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time are 80s classics, the rest of the songs don't come close. 2.5

80’s shite - the singles are good though.

I don't think I'm a big fan of New Wave music but I do like a couple of songs on this album.

Niet mijn muziek, wel erg catchy

of course i knew the most known songs… but outside of those i really had trouble listening to her voice… it was just very hard to hear and the music was meh as well

random note: as a huge baseball fan I never noticed the "Roberto Clemente" sign behind her on this album. My memory of when this came out is that in school there was the "Cindy Lauper or Madonna" debate. At the time I couldn't stand "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and still can't but catchy is catchy and there's something to it to be sure. Her voice is certainly unique which is always polarizing in an artist. I get/got the appeal for sure in 1984 but I just can't do it though, too many of the up-tempo songs are very dated (which seems more common for 80s music) and her voice has that quality that for me is distracting (notably on "Girls Just..." and "When You Were Mine"). The mellower-songs are definitely more appealing - "Time After Time" is an outstanding song, well-written and I do like her voice on this one; "All Through The Night" is another where her voice is appropriate but holy hell the keyboard sounds on that one are just awful - were they even good at the time? Bedroom Casio keyboard.. In the end if you'd never heard this before you could pretty much nail down 1984 just based on the terrible keyboard sounds - I keep saying that but it is so distracting that I don't need to hear most of these again save "Time After Time" 4/10 2 stars.

I like the well known hits but otherwise struggle with the distinctive voice

Better than I feared but I thought it would be very bad

Hmmm. Ok. Rushed through it once, the voice is not one of my favourites

Not dates well

Some classics on here, ruined by sounding very very 80s.

It's got two huge 80's anthems on it. Does the rest of the album stand up? For me, not quite.

Such a frustrating LP - the base melodies and most of the vocals are stellar, but overlong runtimes and grating delivery make this an album to endure, not enjoy.

The most 80s album ever? Possibly, but I still liked it - though can't say I'll be rushing back to it.

She's So Unusual is a generous helping of sugar sweet pop music that gave me a bit of a tooth ache. While I really enjoyed a few songs, particularly the iconic hit singles, listening to this album all the way through felt like binging on Skittles. I don't want to knock Cyndi's chops as a singer or songwriter, but it just wasn't for me. I think she has a unique and compelling voice, but it can get a little grating. I don't think I'll revisit this album again.

Man I had the whole weekend to get into this one. Didn’t really do that. So no in depth review for Cyndi. This album was decent. Nothing really stood out except that one track with the weird adlibs and stuff. And of course the classics “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time”. Other than that things were just fine. 5/10 for me

Big songs on here. Perfectly pleasant

cheesy 80s disco pop. has girls just wanna have fun on it 2.5

Meh, listening to this while drunk doesn't really give a good representation. However I was getting some strong B52s vibe and that's a good thing.

First songs are decent and have a good hook, but are probably about 2 minutes too long. Back half is rough, and some weird voice acting cartoon character stuff going on.

I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would - but the bar was set very low! I don’t particularly enjoy the 80s synth aesthetic but I did enjoy Lauper’s powerful voice, except on the final track with her Betty Boop baby voice. I don’t think I’ll listen to this again.

Not great

Fun! Brings back memories though her voice can get a little annoying depending on my mood.

2 obvious big tunes and loads of filler

A solid enough pop album. It’s fun. But won’t revisit

Very average for me.

Alright. A bit like she was trying too hard to be outrageous, but then maybe she had to to be recognised. Time after Time was lovely and I don’t mind hearing the odd song on the radio but probably wouldn’t seek her out. **

three songs that I love, one song that I like, not enjoying the rest. Difficult to rate for me.

Thought I was not going to like this. Come to find out I like it just fine. Cyndi is a fun bubblegum/synthpop lady. Watched some of her music videos and she does this weird thing where her lips go a bit too high on her face. Girls Wanna Have Fun still sucks, but the other tracks are pretty good. Have a soft spot for "Time After Time", and I really dig "Money Changes Everything". The others were just okay.

Too much

Meh, good 80s tunes but not that interesting

rätt bra debut

The obvious hits are good, the others weren't great. However, the soundscape in general and production is pretty interesting and there are some really cool ideas in these tracks.

unusual voice, very '80s sounding record.

Levy täynnä keskinkertaisia renkutuksia ärsyttävällä lauluäänellä varustettuna. Mikäköhän mystinen voima on tämän levyn nostanut listalle, ja miksi tämä piti kuunnella ennen kuolemaa? Madonna yms on tehnyt saman noin sata kertaa paremmin.

Undeniable a good pop album. Just not for me.

It would have been one star if not for time after time. I WILL BE WAITING

not to my taste

Not worth a 1 but The Queen is Dead is definitely much better.

i simply could not stand her voice for more than 30 seconds at a time. painful listen

Apart from the overplayed hits this is bobbins. Unwelcome yelps and tinny production. Steer clear

as this is a list of the best of the best, this is not the best of the best of the best.

Nothing special

Never listened. Expectations: Low - Verdict: Dislike - Obviously I know Girls Just Wanna Have Fun but otherwise I know basically nothing about Cyndi Lauper. The opener is more new wave and rock sounding than I expected. Not bad. Girls is not good, maybe I've just heard it too much. A Prince cover caught me off guard, not sure on it. This album started off OK at best and is going downhill for me. He's So Unusual is clearly a bit of a throwaway track but is probably the most interesting thing in a while. Yeah Yeah is an ok ending.

Not for me. Really got on my nerves unfortunately. Reminded me of some of the purest pink pop records I've heard - there is something about the production choices that seems to signpost that it's shallow stuff (to me.) the famous singles both seem to be inferior to the orginals

Holy shit I could not stand this.

Boring boring boring

The back half of this album, minus All Through the Night, is genuinely horrible. I don't care, Time After Time is a banger. 3/10

I'm honestly not a fan of her, and I tried to go in with an open mind. Didn't do anything lol. Sad that this is my first album on here from the 80s, it's one of the best decades for music. "Time After Time" was good though, maybe because it was a duet.

Would I choose to listen to this album ever again: NO.

Time After Time

Rolling stones Aftermath(uk) showed me what a 1 sounds like in a way that makes it hard to rate anything else as low. That album caused me physical pain to listen to and She's So Unusual wasn't that but it did dry hump the line. I didn't enjoy a single second. And it's not like i don't love a lot of music where the singer isn't good at singing. I MAKE music where the singer isn't good at singing! This album was more than that. Some of it is certainly my bias of hating 80s synth sounds and 80s drum machine sounds and 80s melodies and 80s lyrics and this was a VERY 80s pop album, but my brain couldn't even register most of it as music. To me it sounded like if you explained music to someone who's never heard it and they were like "oh so it's like this?" And you were like "not really," and they were like "how about this?" And you were like "i guess that's closer" Maybe I'm just a hater, i don't know

A-hyuck-a-bay-buh-bay-buh.

One star for one good song

So boring

Boring

groundbreaking.. erikoinen tyttö.. niin erikoinen ei edes tunnista.. kävelee kadulla jahas ja sitten toiselle puolelle tietä.. joku hullu tulossa vastaan.. joku ihme huume hörhö taas jahas tienylitys vuorossa taas jassoo.. älkää katsoko silmiin lapsoset älkää missään nimessä katsoko silmiin.. aktivoi jotenkin, jotain aktivoi aivoissa että suuttuu ja riehautuu järjettömästi. incredibly whimsical though.. ok symppis mennääs takas kadulle.. käykää lapset puhumassa hullulle koska on symppis? pop musiikkia kahdeksankymmentä luvulta, se ei kovin hyvä aloitus ole eikä moottori oikeen edes lähde käyntiin että mitäs tässä sitten sanois.. time after time

Couldn’t stand the voice

I didn't know much about Cyndi before listening, not much except for "Time After Time," and MJ looking at her disgustedly when they were recording "We Are The World." After listening, I understand why he looked at her like that. It's not even really like Cyndi is singing. She's really just hollering on almost every song. This album is only 38 minutes, but good lord are those 38 long, and loud minutes.

Not my vibe, too old and disco

Cyndi Lauper's voice is annoying, but her singing voice is 1000x better than her speaking voice. The beginning of Money Changes Everything sounds like INXS' Don't Change. RIP Captain Lou Albano. Girls Just Want to Have Fun makes me think of the Goonies because it sounds so much like the song she did for the movie. It's a catchy song. This sounds like the music that would be playing at the prom in an 80s movie. Time After Time is a good song. Definitely Cyndi Lauper's best and maybe the best New Wave song ever. Followed up by one of the worst songs ever, She Bop. All Through the Night is another single you hear in things. If this is some of the best New Wave has to offer, I'll pass. And now some ska inspired crap! I'll Kiss You is bad. And now some Betty Boop inspired nonsense. That should have been the title of the album.

31/1001 Whenever someone has to TELL you they are funny, whacky, zany or interesting, you can almost guarantee they are not. This has been my enduring take on Cyndi Lauper. That said, I can't deny Girls Just Wanna Have Fun has also endured, and deservedly so - it's an attention-grabbing, catchy, bratty pop single which sounds remarkably fresh and energetic to this day. Time After Time is a fair enough ballad - not my cup of tea though - and she did that song for The Goonies as well. Oh and True Colours, I know that one, of course. But we are getting ahead of ourselves there... really, listening to this album for the first time was just a matter of how long before her vocals began to grate. And to be completely honest, I was surprised to find Lauper's voice was the one thing that kept me interested through the middle-of-the-road offerings here, if anything she adds a bit of authenticity, and alternative edge, to standard 80s pop/rock fare. As side two plays out, of course, it everything begins to grate, but, credit where credit is due, she has gone up in my estimation a little. I always had her down as a poor man's Madonna, all crazy hair dos and raiding the dressing up box, but no real substance. Which is unfair. As the big singles from She's So Unusual suggest, with decent material, Lauper was worth the attention she demanded. Not my bag, little stands out besides the singles particularly in the second half, but respect to Cyndi, it's not necessarily her fault. Still only one star, but not as awful as Bruce Springsteen at least.

I think Cyndi's cool but I think this is awful.

Was never keen on screechy voices.

As someone who was really into post-punk music, I'm not particularly familiar with Cyndi Lauper - she always seemed to me to be trying very hard to be wacky, zany and outrageous, but always ending up looking a bit gauche. That coupled with her voice, which always seemed a bit grating to me, has meant I've never spent much time listening to her music (though I heave heard 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' - rather too many times). So when this album came up on the list, I was keen to give it a go. I think I lasted three tracks. I know this was popular, and Lauper probably shifted gazillions of units, but I don't think this is a great album, nor is it an album one must listen to.

1. money - 1 2. girlz - 2 3. mine - 1 4. time - 1.5 5. bop - 1 6. night - 2 7. uuitnezz - 0 8. kizz - 1 9. unuzual - 0 10. yeah - 1

I've always struggled with music from the 80's, probably because my first influential music loves were from the 90's and likely a direct response to the previous decade. I'm trying to keep an open mind and an open ear, but oof, right off the bat not a fan of Cyndi's voice or the music. It's grating and kitschy. I do like the album cover, and "She Bop" was fun with the synth. ---- Update, I've made it to "All through the night" and I guess have acclimated to Cyndi's voice. Do I actually enjoy this song? But then "Witness" - what the hell did you just do to reggae? Sorry about your music Gen X.

She really is so unusual... but not in a good way. Not a Cyndi Lauper fan.

This sounds like something they'd use to interrogate terrorists at Guantanamo Bay.

Not for me

I remember the singles back in the 80’s. It’s not aged very well to be honest and wasn’t particularly my cup of tea back then. Sorry not an iconic album as far as I’m concerned and definitely not a must listen

Cyndi Lauper tries to be quirky, but it just sounds like the musical equivalent of glitter dumped onto nails on a chalkboard. After one round of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," I’m convinced no one on Earth wanted her to have any. Listener feedback graphs show a staggering 83% desire to switch to literally any other song within 45 seconds.

This is triggering my autism. Like I'm not even joking it has certain triggering noises for me I can't stand the sound of this. I'll skip through the rest of it but I'm already checking out at 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' cuz fuck this song specifically. Rest of it seems to be ass

She’s Shouting

I hate the sound of the pop of the 80s

I understand that this lady had a unique voice and meant something (less sexual, more punky) in the feminist waves of her time. However. I’m very allergic to this lady’s voice…

I don't fuck with the vibe. Not my favourite recommendation from the website. I normally pick some tracks at least, but for that one, I just find the tracks not interesting.

Can't say I enjoy her voice very much.

The album is 80s generic slop, the standouts are absolutely time after time and girls just want to have fun. Without those singles it would be a complete skip.

perfect music if I were to ever fuck a cougar milf

It's gonna be a no from me, dog

Not for me

BL: only aware of the hit from this album, but I quite like that track so will be interested to hear more AL: to be fair I actually did know more from this album than I thought I did. But after about 10 minutes Lauper’s voice gets incredibly grating. The oversimplistic 80s synth-pop lines really don’t help either: this was not a particularly enjoyable listen, was nothing special and to be honest will be quite forgettable besides the hits, and for that has netted itself a 1 FT: “Money Changes Everything” 1/5

Not a fan. Female voice too complainy. Not enough beat.

Not my cup of tea, stuff like this is why I quit listening to the radio

Time after Time is decent for an awful 80s ballad. Girls just wanna have fun is trash but it is recognizable and not awful when drunk in a group at a wedding. The entire rest of this album is horribly bad and nearly drove me to start mindlessly destroying things around my desk.

This is becoming the 1001 albums to avoid until you die. Cyndi Lauper? C'mon man...

I've been putting this one off for a while only because my knee jerk reaction is to cringe when thinking about Cyndi Lauper. I have nothing other than Girls Just Want to Have Fun to blame for that. Album off to a rough start for me on Money Changes Everything. I don't hate the overall atmosphere, but the mixing is shit and the vocals are, well, equally bad. For whatever reason, her voice evokes in my mind a toddler throwing a tantrum. Flowers where they are due. I really am not a fan of Girls Just Want to Have Fun, but the production quality is night and day between this and the opener. And if I release myself of prior biases and pretend not to have heard this 1000 times, it does actually bang. Outside of Girls Just Want to Have Fun, I have had no fun on this album. Certain instrumentals are kind of fun in a distinctly retro sense, but the vocals rub me so wrong that it all is a net negative. High 1 / 5.

Pure genius!

Scale: 1: Dissapointing 2: Didn't enjoy 3: Decent 4: Enjoyed 5: Would listen again (My first impression if not mentioned otherwise in a comment) Money Changes Everything: 2/5, meh Girls Just Want To Have Fun: 1/5, legit the same song When You Were Mine: 1/5, Time After Time: 1/5, not worth it Overall: 1/5

"roses red violets are bluee i loove you babyy" Albumi alkaa vahvasti ja loppuu täyspaskakaatoon. ”All through the Night” pilkahtaa pökäleen lailla vetelämmän paskan seasta parhaaksi kappaleeksi "Time after time" Alku hidastettuna, olisi Scorpionssien Wind of Change

I’m not a huge fan however it did have its few hits. A bit of her songs here and there are fine but I find the whole album to be a bit much.

aguante Gilda

Well I liked girls wanna have fun cos who doesn't right. But the rest of the album sounded like someone being sick after downing two many vodkas and singing on top of their lungs are the local nightclub. Lyrically vapid ,musically just horrible.

She's best when she's on the helium.

I can't be doing with her voice, it makes her music unlistenable for me.

Screachy and outdated. Singles are fine nostalgia fuel, but for the most part this was not enjoyable.

I’m not really a fan of this album. It’s not bad, but I didn’t enjoy it.

Sorry Cyndi. You're cool, but i couldnt stand this.

Love this sm

Not bad for 80s

Not for me
