A great 80’s pop record. Enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting too, or maybe should. Feels like a right guilty pleasure album.

This is seriously out there and I love it. Took me a while to get past the immediate 'heard this a thousand times' reaction but Girls Just Wanna Have Fun would have meant a lot of things to a lot of people in '83. Fell down a Cindy YouTube rabbit hole and it seems like she was pretty radical even by early 80s standards; love the look, love the voice, love the attitude. Some of this stuff verges on Talking Heads/B52s styles - Yeah Yeah is an especially outrageous tune.

I love the opening of "Money Changes Everything." Does it sound a bit like David Bowie? Also, "When You Were Mine" sounds like it belongs in the Umbrella Academy soundtrack.

of course i knew the most known songs… but outside of those i really had trouble listening to her voice… it was just very hard to hear and the music was meh as well

random note: as a huge baseball fan I never noticed the "Roberto Clemente" sign behind her on this album. My memory of when this came out is that in school there was the "Cindy Lauper or Madonna" debate. At the time I couldn't stand "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and still can't but catchy is catchy and there's something to it to be sure. Her voice is certainly unique which is always polarizing in an artist. I get/got the appeal for sure in 1984 but I just can't do it though, too many of the up-tempo songs are very dated (which seems more common for 80s music) and her voice has that quality that for me is distracting (notably on "Girls Just..." and "When You Were Mine"). The mellower-songs are definitely more appealing - "Time After Time" is an outstanding song, well-written and I do like her voice on this one; "All Through The Night" is another where her voice is appropriate but holy hell the keyboard sounds on that one are just awful - were they even good at the time? Bedroom Casio keyboard.. In the end if you'd never heard this before you could pretty much nail down 1984 just based on the terrible keyboard sounds - I keep saying that but it is so distracting that I don't need to hear most of these again save "Time After Time" 4/10 2 stars.

This record probably houses two of Cyndi's most famous releases - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time. It's a very pop heavy record, with the iconic sounds of the 80s including heavy synths and electronic drum beats. Coupled with Cyndi on the album cover, full of costume jewellery, fishnets, bright make-up and that glorious mullet, it signals a grand entrance to what 80s pop was really known for. A She-bob album by an artist that showed she was 'out there' and that's indeed how the music sounds. There's really nothing wrong with her voice and the songs jump up and down. It's a very happy 80's pop album. I've seen her in concert in the 2010's and later on in life she has gone in a somewhat different direction, with a bit better songs but also a lot less success. Time After Time might be the only song that really holds up after all this time (after time). And the score might've been a bit higher if the album finished after the first 6 songs. Reasonable debut by a talented artist, but not one of the best albums in the world, not even one of the best by Cyndi Lauper.

This whole album was utterly fantastic. I wasn't expecting to like it so much but it was incredible the whole way through. The last few songs weren't the best but even those were catchy after a couple of listens. She really has a strong, unique voice and the tunes were all interesting (in an 80s sensibility sort of way). I can't get "Witness" out of my head.

I never owed this album. I didn't need to; all the songs were all over the radio and TV. Top notch pop production with some stud session players. Heavy synthesizer per the day but still sounds fresh. Of course, Cyndi Lauper's voice and vocal range are the stars. Six singles were released from this album with five hitting the Billboard top five: "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Time After Time", She-Bop", " Money Changes Everything " and " All Through the Night." Her cover of Prince's "When You Were Mine" is a hidden gem. 5/5

A listenable album that has a bit of an identity crisis. It starts out sounding like the Cars, there's some Police in there, and finishes up sounding like latter-day Oingo Boingo. Still, Lauper has a distinctive voice and the first half especially is full of hooks. Fun without being essential.

Fun. They just wanna, y'all. So interesting. Like, do you think the person who made this was just a character that Cyndi Lauper played for a number of years, or is this truly what she's like when she's just hanging out eating egg rolls with her friends? Some good, infectious tunes and some that I'd be fine never hearing again. Also, it never really dawned on me how sort of ominous the music of "She Bop" is for a song about masturbation. Different strokes *ahem* for different folks, I guess.

Но вторая половина чатично норм...... 9 Ладно.... нет слов... а зачем это тут? Опопсеть можно... 10 Ачё, звучит попсово! Я даже добавлю этот трек :) единственный с альбома правда..... Прослушивание 2: На фоне слушать сложно, но можно! Очень сильно бьёт в голову, не делайте песни громкими. Песня 4 заставляет задуматься..... едешь в закат на воей фуре и не понимаешь что происходитт то вообще.... как ЕГЭ сдать.... как сказать матери, что куришь.... сложно.... Альбом явно не должен быть в этом топе, слишком он посредственный. Возможно для тех лет это прорыв, но сейчас это звучит ужасно. Добавил 6, красиво, погорячился). Переслушивание 3: не могу... я не дослушал.... Вывод: Устаревшая попса на любителя. Понравится тем кто любит красивый голос, или старые синтезаторы. There are two pretty-much-perfect pop songs on here, which is a great return for any album. In fact I'd say the whole first half is shiny synth-pop gold - the kind that makes me think 'Cor, wouldn't it have been great to grow up in 80s America and hang out at the mall all day...?!' The quality dips a bit towards the end though.

I remember a point in the mid 80s when it was "Cyndi Lauper vs Madonna". I was on Team Madonna, but I wish I'd been on both teams (lol) because She's So Unusual is such a good album and I feel like it would have been beneficial for me as a kid to be exposed to Cyndi Lauper's wild pop. There's something to be said for an album where the first six tracks are all pop classics (and the rest of the album is just as good). It's even the case that the mega hit "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" isn't even the best track on the album. And how many pop stars have had a hit with a song about flicking the bean? I love the influences of artists like Prince and the B-52s, getting all the coolest bits of new wave and making a pop masterpiece.

It's so 80's. Yes it has a lot of hits. But, this album suffers from everything I hate about 80's popular music. The musical excellence of guitar driven 70's rock and punk gave birth to layer upon layer of synthesizers and drum machines. The lyrics are actually well written, but unfortunately Ms. Lauper's nasally voice is unpleasant to the ears. It wasn't terrible, but it's not an album I would go to on a rainy day.

Not the biggest fan of this. I don't really like new wave, so I was not expecting to like this. Time After Time is one of the only songs that I enjoyed on here. The last song was abysmal.

Some good, some ok, not life changing

Good pop album for the time but I never cared for Cyndi Lauper. Can't stand the shrill voice but at least this album has three huge hits and can respect the work. 7/10.

Great 80's pop album. Spunky and funky, so much more than 'girls just wanna have fun'.

The history books suggest this album was released in November, 1983. I suppose that's technically true, but there isn't an album that sounds like the watershed year of 1984 as much as this album does. And it's impact was really felt for ALL of 1984. It goes to great lengths to SOUND like it's from 1984. Look no further than my favorite song from the album, "All Through The Night". It's close to a perfect song, save for the decision to lay that synthesizer on in a way that only the '80's would allow. There were seemingly countless master works released in 1984. This one comes right out of the gate with 6 absolute bangers before losing steam on the last four songs. But that six-pack of songs (one, it should be pointed out, was written by Prince Rogers Nelson, perhaps 1984's most prolific artist who could go no wrong at the time) belong in a time capsule. The, ahem, timeless "Time After Time" is Cyndi's signature song. Her "Bridge Over Troubled Water". The song current and future generations cover, cry to, and slow dance to at proms. It's the one song certain to keep Cyndi Lauper around in whatever way people listen to the radio and music for years to come.

Blah, knew nothing about this artist till I listened to this album, still dont, nor am I inclined to. Was surprised by the amount of songs I recognised even though, till now, I never knew who sung them

some real bops and classics

A great example of early 80s New Wave, where guitar solos were replaced by synths. Lauper shows off her songwriting chops and made a phenomenal debut album. It was almost too good and there was nowhere to go but down, she never had the same success on her later albums.

The soundtrack to my teenage years, but somehow I never actually had the album or listened to the album straight through before. I also apparently never really took a close look at the album cover art, which is stunning and spot on, showy and fun at first glance but also deeply melancholy, nostalgic, and even a touch hopeless. Turns out the picture was taken by Annie Leibovitz in Coney Island, which tracks. I've always liked the hits - Time after Time, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Money Changes Everything and She Bop - especially back in the day. I do feel like Time after Time still stands up today; obviously 80's but simple and pretty enough to still be timeless. I'm sorry I had not previously heard When You Were Mine. Lauper's voice is clear and strong and emotive and perfectly suited to the bouncy but by turns subversive and sentimental songs. I don't love every single track, and even the good ones sound dated now, but there's no denying that all together this is a great album and a stunning debut.

Saved Prior: Time After Time Off Rip: When You Were Mine, She Bop, All Through the Night, Witness Cutting Edge: I'll Kiss You Overall Notes: 80's music gets shit for being ludicrous but the music that survives is some of the best pop music out there. Time After Time always makes me want to cry for some reason (positive connotation). If I was a bigger fan of Girls Just Want To Have Fun (it's fun at bars but wouldn't listen to it by myself) this would've been pushed into the low-5 zone.

Really good 80 pop!

Pop ochentero muy típico de la época, con una bonita y sensual voz femenina. Varias canciones han llegado hasta nuestro tiempo.

Define "mixed feelings". On one hand, this really isn't my music. Yes, Girls just want to have fun is catchy is all sorts of ways, but I think I can safely say generic pop music hasn't been my thing back then and certainly isn't my thing today. However, there is a lot of versatility in this album, as well as some undeniable historical impact. So I will err to towards the positive with my rating, if only for the sake of She Bop.

Got this on Vinyl for the wife, we listened to it the other day and you know what there’s some pretty good jams on here couple of the songs I don’t know why made me tear up just a little but definitely a great 80s album all the way around liked it a lot, heavy nostalgia for me on this one.

It's got two huge 80's anthems on it. Does the rest of the album stand up? For me, not quite.

Such a frustrating LP - the base melodies and most of the vocals are stellar, but overlong runtimes and grating delivery make this an album to endure, not enjoy.

I’ve always liked Girls Just Wanna Have Fun but wasn’t expecting a good album. Glad I was wrong, this is an unapologetic 80’s sound but fun AF and very interesting. I recognized many of the tracks too. I like it.

it's fine. there are some great tracks on here but the album overstays its welcome. stick to the singles.

Screachy and outdated. Singles are fine nostalgia fuel, but for the most part this was not enjoyable.

She's So Unusual is a generous helping of sugar sweet pop music that gave me a bit of a tooth ache. While I really enjoyed a few songs, particularly the iconic hit singles, listening to this album all the way through felt like binging on Skittles. I don't want to knock Cyndi's chops as a singer or songwriter, but it just wasn't for me. I think she has a unique and compelling voice, but it can get a little grating. I don't think I'll revisit this album again.

Man I had the whole weekend to get into this one. Didn’t really do that. So no in depth review for Cyndi. This album was decent. Nothing really stood out except that one track with the weird adlibs and stuff. And of course the classics “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time”. Other than that things were just fine. 5/10 for me

So much Cyndi. A little too much

Really liked this album, shorter runtime allowed for the big hits to really keep their energy. The last 3 songs on the album were still missing in some parts, Cyndi's higher pitches don't come off too well in my opinion. First section is great though.

Fantastic piece of art with great hits and great b-sides. I definitely slept on Cyndi Lauper, but she rocks.

BOY those are some mannered vocals, and really era-specific drum and keyboard sounds. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time are great songs. Miles Davis covered Time After Time!! But that snare drum is wearing to listen to, as are those shiny keyboard sounds. She Bop is great too- subversive Pop! really dated by the drums and keyboards, though.

This is a really strong album from the 80s new wave era. I'd love to hear some of these songs without the cheesy synths, but that's a minor complaint. 4 stars.

un álbum divertido y bueno para pasar el rato, canciones como "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" o "She Bop" exploran mucho la libertad de la mujer ya sea desde el ámbito social/familiar o sexual, ademas la interpretación vocal de Cyndi Lauper es uno de los puntos mas positivos de esta obra; sin embargo pese a que el álbum tenga muchos hits a veces se estanca en temas olvidables o que pecan de repetitivo. El álbum me resulto un viaje muy divertido y que apesar de que personalmente no me terminan de encantar algunos temas por lo repetitivos de estos no puedo negar que es un buen álbum. calificacion 3,5/5

простите, что так долго не постил - кайфовал от реально годного альбома 😎 Так, ну хилимся живём, получается. Сегодня у нас день гёрл-павера (инб4: следующий альбом уже затестил, он в ту же степь), а значит делаем хвостики и записываемся на ноготочки. А если серьёзно - как же радостно наконец-то слышать искренне ВЕСЁЛУЮ музыку, это пиздец. После вот этой всей душнины от унылоёблых блюзменов и клоунской маскулинности от всяких там глэмеров - так кайфово просто погонять короткий и энергичный альбомчик, полный приятного поп-синт-рока из восьмидесятых. Да, он, конечно, слегка, что называется, cheesy, но я бы сказал, что тут это даже несколько постиронично воспринимается, что ли. Учитывая, как я ненавижу эту желчную феминистическую музыку типа песен Ким Гордон - здесь можно найти настоящую отдушину, т.к. фокус не на месседже, а на вайбе. Запомните, малые, только через такие песни вы и можете покорить мир своей идеей, потому что если ваша (даже самая светлая и добрая) агитация идёт вкупе с болью и страданиями - никому она нахуй не будет нужна. Не зря же гей-гимн это YMCA или хиты Леди Гаги, а не заунывное нытьё Хозьера и Вейнрайта (жесть, когда он отпустит уже). Короче. Очень позитивный и хитовый релиз, куча угарных синтов, запоминающиеся припевы (спасибо господи), есть даже песня, написанная Принсом (хотя далеко не самая лучшая, но место имеет быть). Кстати, вот насчет авторства песен были сомнения - из всего материала непосредственно исполнительница приложила руку только к половине песен, остальное либо написано мужиками, либо кавер. От этого, конечно, коммерцией чутка отдаёт, но мне, сугубо говоря, похуй, пока качает. Тем более, что как раз авторская половина состоит из лучших песен - тут и годнейший хит Time after Time (мне кажется, я этот мотив где-то уже слышал, но да лан), и охуенная She Bop (с отрывом лучшая песня на альбоме, да ещё и про мастурбацию - смело встаёт в ряд легендарных высказываний на эту тему вместе с Whip It и Flagpole Sitta), и панковская I'll Kiss You. В общем и целом - совсем плохих песен замечено не было, есть поинтереснее, есть поскучнее, но в общем и целом это хотя бы заслуживает быть в списке того, что стоит послушать перед смертью. 9/10 Наиболее понравились: She Bop, Time After Time, I'll Kiss you Наименее понравились: Girls Just Want To Have Fun (хоть это и был первый сингл, но я не совсем понял прикола, т.к. песня была написана каким-то челом, ну и короче есть некоторое ощущение неуловленной иронии, да и в целом песни про желание быть тупым не одобряем, хотя по музыке прикольно), All Through the Night (единственный полноценный кавер, по-моему не стоило того).

Really liked this. Nice collection of pop songs, but with a few interesting asides. 80s guitars, 80s synths, 80s drums... all sounds that I like. Cyndi Lauper has a cool voice and delivery. And the hits are absolute pop bangers. (3.3)

Really enjoyed this album. Starts off strong with some classics as well as some great synth pop 80s tunes. Middle to the end I wasn't as engaged but I loved "he's so strange" Segway into the final song. 4.5

Pour analyser cet album, je suis allé à la rencontre du denommé Mickey afin de profiter de son oeil aiguisé de critique musical: "ça c'est pas mon Quentin ça, ça c'est de la musique de lopette ça" Dithyrambique, un constat sans appel que je partage entièrement.

Cyndi Lauper, now that's a name I haven't heard since.... It was January 1985, I was visiting my parents at the lake. It's so beautiful there in the winter and it gives me the peace and quiet to work on my dancing. One morning, fresh from a hectic pirouette session, I was walking along the waterside when a young woman approached me looking, no staring, right in my direction. A playful smile across her lips and one breast hanging out, she tackled me to the ground and shoved her tongue to the back of my throat. We were swept into a whirlwind of love, sex and cheese and four magical days later, we married. Things were going well until one frightful day in late February. I returned home to find my lover naked in the kitchen on her knees, bent over with her hungry brown Sheriff's Badge pointing towards me. At first I thought it was a sexy treat for yours truly to devour, but to my horror, I turned to see my own father stood there, naked from the waist down, hanging out his foot. I gasped as one by one each of his toes climbed inside my wife's crusty anus, until the heel could no longer be seen and all that was left was shin. Her peachy bum had swallowed his whole foot and he was wearing her like a fleshy shoe. Needless to say, Cyndi and I parted ways not long after...although my father and I do often reminisce about the incident.

First songs are decent and have a good hook, but are probably about 2 minutes too long. Back half is rough, and some weird voice acting cartoon character stuff going on.

Some great moments in the first half, but it’s just a bit much for me. This album carries some of the worse impulses in 80s music and is quite dated. However, it’s an exemplary example of where pop music was at that time

Typical 80s music. Not bad, if you are into this kind of thing.

Probably wouldn't have given this album a listen outside of something along the lines of this. I did not realize time after time was on this album. Most of the songs on this are absolute classics, music I grew up with and didn't even realize. Lots of love for this one. Great place to start.

I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would - but the bar was set very low! I don’t particularly enjoy the 80s synth aesthetic but I did enjoy Lauper’s powerful voice, except on the final track with her Betty Boop baby voice. I don’t think I’ll listen to this again.

I've never really listened to Cyndi Lauper so let's give it a go. "Money Changes Everything" is good. It's a bit too '80s pop for me but I see the merit. "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" I though it might be this album based on the first song. Guilty pleasure song for me. "When You Were Mine" was ok, got interrupted a few times so I probably didn't get the full effect. "Time After Time" hold on, this is the same album/artist as "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"? Ok, Cyndi. I see you. "She Bop" I don't think I've heard it before but I like it. IDK what instrument it is (maybe xylophone?) but I like the inclusion of it. This is closer to what I like about '80s music. "All Through the Night" ew this sounds like a love ballad. Her voice also sounds a bit flat in this one. Random thought: I wonder what Navar thinks about Cyndi? "Witness" eh, it's ok. Pending the rest of the album, this might be the weakest one. I think it's trying to do both too much and not enough at the same time. "I'll Kiss You" better than "Witness" but not by much. "He's so Unusual" that was a little weird. Sounds like she was aiming for the '20s. I think it was really just an intro for the next one. "Yeah Yeah" sounds like too many different genres in one. The organ or whatever she used in it is taking me out of the song a bit. Otherwise it's ok. Overall it was good. Not my typical music but not unlistenable. It is a bit too '80s in the way I don't like.

I hadn't heard this album in full until this review, though its influence on the 80s is undeniable. The fact that half the album is hits is saying something. Money changes everything and i'll kiss you are welcome additions to the rest of the hits - girls just want to have fun, time and time, she bop, all through the night, and he's so unusual. The whole album is bristling with female energy - that's the best way I can put it. It's a great perspective and it's never vapid - sometimes the music industry dumbs down the music of female artist unfairly. All through the night is pure poetry and my favorite song on the album. Totally inspired by late nights of teenage love where everything that led to that moment is gone and there is no future - just the present and it is good. A phenomenal accomplishment.

The 80s are strong with this one and I really don't feel like this album has aged particularly well. I've heard covers of Cindy Lauper songs in somewhat different styles which I really enjoyed. The originals I don't enjoy, as it turns out.

The kind of pop that I really don’t vibe with. Some songs are fun in a “sing along road trip” kind of way, but not something I’d listen to on my own time. Gotta say though, All Through the Night was kind of a bop.

Wow. Just wow. I was cery impressed with how gripping this album was. Very entertaining with lyrics that were very thoughful for pop and pretty thoughtful in general. Tge music was mostly excellent and but overall it kept me hooked until the last song. I think the key was the song order - she or whoever is responsible really payed attention to the pace of each song, choosing shifting both mood and tempo very quickly each time. Awesome. Its also an obvious classic. Fun time. 4

Synthesizer-laden, bustling songs that perform an incredible sleight of hand of taking themes (and even songs) and shift the focus ever so slightly to the narrator’s perspective, whose voice barrels through the instrumentation. We get songs like “Money Changes Everything” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, the former a song by the Brains about a man whose girlfriend leaves to be with a wealthier man and the latter a song written by Robert Hazard about his girlfriends. The Brains’ song is retold from the perspective of the woman (a defense of women chasing money) and Hazard’s song is reworked into a statement about the right of women to have fun. All of these changes are dressed in the sort of new-wave noise that infects the whole album, resulting in bouncy songs that defy expectations, propelled along by Lauper’s undeniably powerful voice. “When You Were Mine” is a perfect cover, taking the spirit of a song and inflecting it with something new, something unique to the new voice performing it. Lauper deftly does that, not improving but completely transforming Prince’s song. “Time After Time” and “She Bop” are the first original songs on the album and, lest it be worried that all Lauper was capable of was covering other’s music, both are incredible. I am partial to “She Bop”, a stunning song intended as a double entendre (although, I’m not convinced a song that references a gay porn magazine is being sly). Nothing much more needs to be said about “Time After Time”, simply a classic song. The second half of the album really begins to fall flat. I didn’t love either “All Through the Night” or “Yeah Yeah”. The former just feels out of place in the album, it also drags a bit. I am not sure what it is about “Yeah Yeah”, but Lauper’s voice feels flatter than anywhere else in the album and toned down––something is just lacking in it. However, I do love the little voice that whines in the background during the verses and I think the dolphin noise she makes is incredible. It’s a song I really want to love, but just can’t give myself completely to. “I’ll Kiss You” is frantic, loud, and feels like it’s literally coming off the tracks the length of the song. I get the sense that if “Yeah Yeah” sounded more like this, I would be able to love it. Overall, an incredible album. I love the way Lauper crafted a decidedly feminist new-wave sound, using preexisting material (“Money Changes Everything”; “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”) and without that material (“She Bop”; “I’ll Kiss You”). A near perfect debut. I would give it a 9/10 if I could, but a 5 will have to do on here. Also, it isn’t lost on me that I described the Cardigans as punk in a prom dress and Cyndi Lauper (a new-wave phenom drawing from all sorts of punk and post-punk acts) is literally wearing a prom dress on this album cover. I tried to think of a way to continue the analogy without making it convoluted. this is the best I have: Lauper is the sort of punk that goes to prom in a punkified prom dress. It’s not perfect, but I also think this is a fucking stupid analogy to keep up.

Woooo had such a good time listening to this. I was briefly interrupted by James Cressey, flailing his arms and raving about dead foxes, but I didn't let this get in the way of Lauper's energy, wit, and general good vibes. I already liked 'girls...' but now I see that there's even more to her as an artist.

This album is so good it’s actually staggering. It really has everything and sounds unbelievable

_She’s so Cyndi Lauper_, this album had 4 top-5 singles! I thought this album was _fun_, it had a lot of variety and Cyndi has a unique voice. I’m probably not going to listen to the whole album again, but I enjoyed it much more than a lot of albums so far.

Highlight: I'll Kiss You The thing that surprised me the most about this album is that I used to think all of these songs spanned multiple albums over several years. Nope, they're all here on one album, and it's not even a "best of". The songs I've already heard a million times and some new treats "I'll Kiss You" is especially bouncy and fun. Every track a banger!

Thought I was not going to like this. Come to find out I like it just fine. Cyndi is a fun bubblegum/synthpop lady. Watched some of her music videos and she does this weird thing where her lips go a bit too high on her face. Girls Wanna Have Fun still sucks, but the other tracks are pretty good. Have a soft spot for "Time After Time", and I really dig "Money Changes Everything". The others were just okay.

This was one of the first albums I ever owned as a child so it holds a special place in my heart. It is dated af but charming and fun. Cyndi's vocals are wild and most of the songs are bops. When You Were Mine is a real standout. Lovely to revisit this 30+ years later.

The fact that I’ve never even bothered to look up this album is bewildering to me. I LOVE Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and have for such a long time. Time After Time is a fucking classic and a half. God this album is just exceptional. Cyndi really knocked it out of the park, He’s So Unusual into Yeah Yeah is just a banger of a closure to this wonderful album!

Some really great songs and then a bunch of mediocre forgettable and kind of annoying tracks. You can tell which are which by just looking at the play count. No hidden gems here. But the popular tracks deserve the hype tbh

A whole album of Lauper is far too much Lauper. There's some decent pop going on here, most of which has already been played to death on radio stations over the decades. I don't mind hearing a bit of Lauper now and again, but not this much, not like this, I'm drowning in Lauper.

The 80s were a hard time for music. Technology was making a lot of new sounds possible and it seems that very few people stopped to wonder if they SHOULD use those new, blippy-bloopy, zip-zap synths just because they could. The end result is a lot of music that's just not good. This album among them. "Time After Time" is a fairly well-written song and Cyndi Lauper is a pretty talented vocalist so the album is saved from a failing mark ... but only just.

A pop album oozing with personality and super reflective of the musical era it occurred in.
