Yet another weird album, where I tend to find that it is in this list for curiousity reasons rather than it being actually good
Iconic indie rock! A unique take on punk/new wave, mixing up 60’s West coast surf rock with NY garage and art rock of the late 70’s, and then having a party doing it. No other band sounds like B-52s. Not back then, not today some 40 years later.
Oh no.. how did this ever come about
Re inventing punk?!? Njaa not really
A peak point in the Cure album discography. It might not feature the very best the Cure songs, although it has one or two classics on it, but this album is however not about individual songs. It is more a flow of music from the opening track till the last tone of the last track, hence complete without any unnecessary fillers. True perfection.
So vibrant, and beatiful balance between electronica elements and the classic guitar, bass, drums drive
Epic!
Geeks playing rock n roll… in a refreshing way. Sound is like college rock melets Velvet Underground
Groovy stuff from start to finish… and a lot of strings
Essential 80s - but not really standing the test of time
Brilliant.. just brilliant
Maybe not amongst the best Elton John albums…but still a collection of solid pop songs here, performed by brilliant talenter musicians
Blues and guitars, and more guitars… great musicians, but a bit boring after a while
A laid back and moody indie rock sound. The tracks are instrumental soundscapes rather than songs… gets boring after a while
A masterpiece..
This is it! Update of the 60’s/70’s Bossa Nova, beautifully integrating elements of ambient electrinica, acid jazz and trip-hop. Very smooth and well produced. Music perfect for cocktails in a late night lounge bar, and just as well for an espresso on a Sunday morning on a sunny balcony or in a street café… Music to Dream to

Nice laid back sound and great musicianship. And of course Mark Knopfflers guitar taking it to a different level
Top album. The Doors at their peak
Symphonic rock.. Not my kind of thing. There are moments of beauty but mostly I find it too arranged and calculated, and weird.
Yeah, great no nonsense indie rock for partying, yet with interesting lyrics. Like it!
Catchy songs and solid production as always with ABBA, only I never got on that train… was on another platform going in a different direction I suppose. In other words, not really my thing.
The transition from soul to funk. A bit outdated, but groovy
Coldplay at their peak. Tight composition, and powerful lyrics
Pretty good!
Iconic indie rock! A unique take on punk/new wave, mixing up 60’s West coast surf rock with NY garage and art rock of the late 70’s, and then having a party doing it. No other band sounds like B-52s. Not back then, not today some 40 years later.
Catchy tunes, but a bit dated
The essense of heavy metal. Amongst the albums defining the whole genre
Beatiful, and singer/song in an 80’s way
A monster of an album. Iconic psychedelic rock
Superb. The most beatiful electronica soundscapes put together as a classic symphony, with its different themes being repeated in variations and mixed up maintaing an exciting atmosphere throughout the whole album
Maybe the best one by the Beatles. A collection of solid and tight rock songs here. Before they included more experimental elements.
Vibrant. Passionate. Powerful.
Still beautiful and powerful singing, but also a lot of anonymous fillers
This is where it started with REM. Great album
One of the Best!
Wouw.. is it a joke..?!
Naaa. Not for me.
So cool. Like a soundtrack to a suspense noir movie
Melodic punk. Great album
This is fantastic, in the weird way only Talking Heads can do it
Top album from the sixties, superb vocal harmonies and jangling guitars
Ahhh.. better when it is soul
Quality music, but trapped in time
Oh no.. how did this ever come about
Ahh.. wonder what the big clock is about..hmm
Re inventing punk?!? Njaa not really
Epic 90’s indie. Although a bit dated, there are no weak songs here.. Wonderwall has kept its magic, but in retrospective songs like the title track, and Champagne Super perhaps even better
One of the Best by the Charlatans. One of the Best from the UK indie dance rock era in the 90’s.
Weird…
Quite alright
So coooool… Nice one here
Modern country?
Not up there with the first 3 albums, but still refreshing and powerful
A true classic.. top band behind our man Van, creating a warm and vibrant atmosphere. And then there is Van at his best delivering his songs with true passion
Dream soundscapes and Elisabeth Frazer adding vocals of incredible beauty. It’s all about atmosphere here, and gets slightly boring if the ears are set for rythmic 3 min songs with lyrics telling a story, but as a back drop for a meditative moment it works. And the best from Cocteau Twins
Nothing special really..
Only the beginning… impressive!
A classic!
Smooth and soft..and that is maybe the problem here. I sm lacking a certain enge or nerve. So not for me thanks
Mainstream 80’s pop. Ok for parties back then. Boring in retrospect
Great one!
Fantastic!
Ohh yeah! Part of the soundtrack for the 90’s indie/techno rave parties Nice flash back!
Aggressive - expressive - Nice one
A classic. No nonsense heavy rock, with a lot of groovy blues elements refining it. And then Ian Gillans super vocal work on top of things wouuww!
Never got into this. A bit pretentious.. imo
Revisiting 70’s motown. I find it boring
The best from Björk! Continuing the indie sound of Sugarcubes, with fine Dance/Electronica elements
Solid 70’s blues feel, but also weird lyrics, that do not do it for me. Gets boring
Typical easy listening bossa nova vocal jazz for the cocktail lounge. Cozy and warm, but also boring, without any edge
Weird to some extend, which makes me feel unpleasant… not for me
Ok laid back indie rock with some psychedelic elements. There is a nice vibe going here
No actual songs on it, only a variete of soundscapes. I do not get it. Would perhaps had worked well as a movie soundtrack, but then there is not a movie..
OK classic 70’s soul, but not exceptional
Fantastic! A favourite from the 70’es punk era
Another great one here! Fresh and serious lyrics guitar indie rock
Not their biggest hits here, but solid vocal harmonies and groovy rythm as always
Beautiful and exciting soundscapes. Works best where there is rythm underneath, so longer the movements in the compositions without it, makes it a bit boring here and there though
Funky new wave, and an agree David Byrne. And then it’s got Life during wartime on it. What’s not to like
Great musicianship as always with Bowie, but with a somewhat conventional direction here. Influenced by classic soul to some degree, and with famous hits like Fame and the title track. However, lacking a lot of the alternative experimental elements that make the greatest Bowie albums… great. So quite average in this respect.
Typical late 60’s psychedelica. Nice and groovy live performance, but also a bit on the average
Quite noisy. Early industrial.. my ears are bleeding after a while
Solid and honest straight forward garage/punk rock. Love it! RIP Chris Bailey
Iconic indie rock masterpiece from the Bunnymen. Nothing less.
Hmmm… never got into RHCP. Don’t know why. This is an ok album, although it does not really move me
Electronic indie rock/pop. Some ok dance tracks, but does not move me in general
Yeeahh! One of the best by the Jam, with the classic mod era song That’s entertainment as a high light
African choir. Beatiful harmonies, but boring
Shoegaze indierock classic back in the day. In retrospect it sounds dated and gets boring after a few songs
Laid back old school hip hop, That’s got interesting lyrics here and there, and it is funky too. Not too bad, and not like the aggresive direction a lot of the genre has taken today.
The iconic one, because of all the fantastic hits that are classics today It is a a landmark pop album alright, however moving slightly away from the older RnB and soul infused MJ albums, I personally like better. In retrospect it also comes out a bit overproduced (as many soft rock/ power pop/ RnB albums of the 80’s). So for me not the top MJ album as it is to many. Prefer the previous ones.
Love it! 60’s psychedelic rock. And with Neil Young
Mixing the weird and the noisy. Not me
Pure energy! A solid album
The epic electronica album by New Order. Ends come together here
Wouw. First time listening to this, and really positive. Warm and cozy.. a nice extension of the 60’s be-bop jazz into the 70’s. References to both African music and funk here and there, just making it even more exciting.
No thanks… garage punk with a lot of energy, but then not really that special. Somehow repeating what was delivered with previous releases..
No thank you..
Legendary and one of the landmark albums to define the whole postpunk/ goth scene that followed
Not the top one by Massive Attack, but solid
Beautiful. Powerful. Vibrant atmosphere all the way.
Rap… never my favourite, but then in this case, mixing it up with cool jazz and soul, making it groovy here and there
The titel song obviously a classic, and several other of the Eagles top songs are included here. However also a few fillers, that do not stand the test of time. So therefore not a 5 star album in my World, but close
Nice one
Like the idea of the duo format, but then after a few songs the limitation of the same is showing. So Becoming a bit boring after a while
Beautiful atmosphere vibe all the way. And the singing… wouw.
Great album. Nice laid back indie rock
Nice blend of electronica and shoegaze indie. Like it! A lot!
Country meets psychedelia.. Nice soft tunes with an edge here and there. Nice soundtrack for a quiet Sunday morning having a coffee at the down town Street café
Love this one. Finest blend of folk and pub rock
Low Key laid back indie. Ok, but not more than that
Hippies and psychedelia in a nice way. A classic, but also kind quite dated
Hmm. Does not move me
Some stand out classics on it. But the album as a whole does not stand the test of time
Very hyped.. but rap and hip hop rarely speaks to me. This one is not an exception. Some groovy drum ‘n bass here and there, but that is it
Nice laid back groovy soul all the way, although a bit anonymous here and there
Smooth and laid back classic soul. The title track is a true masterpiece and genre defining, but also filler tracks with overproduced strings, not doing good for the overall impression
Neil Young & Crazy Horse at their best!
One of the AC/DC top albums. Rock n Roll and Rock on! Old love for this one
Well, decent work, but That’s it
Weird indie rock. Great moments here and there but it does not really capture me over the whole album
Great album! (Silly title)
Some weird stuff here, in an ok exciting way.Elements of grunge, Radiohead and Velvet Underground
Not my thing. Solid recording, but the music style, hip hop, Soft RnB, does not catch me
A great one! No fooling around here. Just tight straight forward garage rock, with a freshing energy
Don’t like it sorry. This kind of aggressive hip hop, never my cup of tea
Revisiting traditional irish/Celtic folk, with a pink rock twist. And succeed with the project. Thumbs up
Johnny Winther refining and updating the Muddy Waters back catalogue to some extent. And it works!
Nice one by EC. Legendarisk actually..
The essense of James Brown is captured in this recording. Especially the Please Please Please medley is a tour de force of the power and energy of James Brown
This album shows both the strength and weakness of Nirvana. Weakness, not about their musicianship, but in general because they were obviously lacking strong original material for the whole gig, and therefore included several covers. Strength, because the covers they included actually is given their own edge, in becomes relevant. Their version of the man who sold the Earth is epic. Bonus as well is the joint forces with the Meat Puppets. Not a bad album
Fantastic how much energy and nerve The Stones manager to get out of a very laid back period, in the south of France, creating songs from spontaneous jam sessions. A masterpiece within the Rolling Stones catalogue, nothing less.
No thanks
Melodic indie rock from the 80s. Quite alright!
Groovy organ here and there, but missing vocals. Norring somehow
Nicely crafted. Great musicianship and lyrics, but also a bit anonymous, without any stand out hit songs
Ok, but not a favourite
Nice one here. Iconic
No thanks. Old School salsa. Nothing wrong with that, but find the percussion element too dominant. Result is a lot of energy, but as well very stressed.
Love this one. Laid back melodic indie pop/rock. Vocals are great
Oh no..
So much said about this album already over the years. No need to repeat all that. Yes it is a masterpiece.
Yet another of those recordings made by skilled musicians, well crafted and produced, but so boring
Nice heavy rock/grunge, but loosing some of the magic over the years
Nice, but not fantastic
Because of you. Great Tune. As for the rest, it is pretty average
No thanks. Not a fan of this kind of music really
A DJ set put down on an album. To me it is the kind of thing where you pick an individual tune out for dancing at a party, mixing it with other tunes. However listening to this as an album from start to finish does not work for me. In this connection I get stressed with all the sampling and scratching. Tedeous.
Interesting blend of country and 80’s indie rock. Some catchy tunes included
Iggy Pop in top form. The essense of garage rock. For sure. Only due to the poor recording I have always wondered why so many people are referring to this one as the best one by Iggy. Personally I hav always found it a bit disapointing compared to the first 2 Stooges albums. Anyhow classic tunes are on it that since then have never failed to get the crowd going crazy when played live
Oh no. Terrible
Nice. Mods revival Elvis Costello here
Quite ok. Cozy indie rock with electronic elements
Compilation? Ok funky stuff, but very much the same song repeated many times. So not that excited after all
All tunes sounds more or less the same. Never found out why DF could become so big. Ok, when they invite special guest vocalists to join them, but on their own… overrated
Too weird for my taste
Nothing exceptional, but ok solid indie/garage rock
A very powerful album. Not Strange that this one took Adele to international Fame. Strong lyrics on top of well crafted tunes, and the singing…. Wouw
Soft and warm easy listening. Pop with groovy jazz elements here and there. Kind of ok, but also a bit boring
Cool indie.
Solid classic rock. One of the best from Aerosmith
An energy bomb!
Somehow dated, but also some groovy stuff here and there
Narrhhh… don’t get it
Great nostalgia. Love this one!
Solid, but like the older stuff better
Brilliant storytelling on top of solid indie rock
When Primal scream went electronic. Has great groovy elements, with some weird noisy soundscapes. Some work perfect, like Burning wheel, others become too weird to my taste though. But a solid album in general!
I am getting a headache…
Early punk, funky lyrics, quite melodic, like it
An all time favourite. The Smiths at their peak
Tour de Force. Including soul elements to the original RnR nerve is a powerful addition, and then Elvis vocals here. Top!
One of the greatest new wave albums of the early 80’s due to strong production and Annie Lennox powerful voice. Pure nostalgia in a nice way
A milestone in soul music. Funky and powerful
Rough, in a cool way. Not the best one by the Cramps, but pretty good
Not really my taste. The title track is catchy though.
Raw, fresh, powerful. A real classic from the punk era
Nothing special really
Quite alright, but without the magic of earlier albums
Fantastic. Qintesential fussion of jazz and funk. Groovy all the way
????
Not really a necessary listen before you die album
Pixies quite ok, but do not really need this one. Not bad, but not spectacular
Well.. outdated to some extent. Does not catch me
Fresh and rough Cut. Indie garage rock. Could do with more variation, it is like two-three songs repeated over and over
Nice one
Not Thriller, not Off the Wall
Retrospectively I do not find it that great after all, but remember when it came out. A real game changer, bridging heavy rock elements and indie rock, and that is not to forget about! Made its mark for sure
Not my kind of music
Classic!
Not for me thanks
Fantastic! Maybe the best album by the Who
Trendsetting new wave
Ok. But not exceptional
Not favourite kind of music
Goth meets glam rock. Too dark and bizarre for my taste
Fantastic! A favourite Dylan album. Great lyrics, great atmosphere
Nice atmospheric indie rock
Super. New Order going all in on dance electronica
Ohh !?!
The sound of the 80’s. Great then, now outdated.
No thanks
Pop..
Fresh and energetic when it came out.. dated today
Never really understood the hype about the Manics, but this one, admitted, is quite good
Ok. Decent album, but grunge never moved me. Its getting a bit boring after some songs
Nice, but dated (is it allowed to say that about the fab four?)
More a curiousity item (with Janis) than a great album
A bit weird. Not a favourite
Not a fan here, Sorry
Raw energy. Great one. One of the greatest.
Just excellent!
Not my music..
Great album, not quite like the debut, but close
Well Rock n Roll will never die
A true classic, and one of the defining albums of the mid/late 80’s sound and night club dance scene
Liked the early stuff from Elvis Costello. Still do :-)
A masterpiece
No thanks
Not the best solo album by Morrissey, but still a solid debut. With classic singles Suedehead and Everyday is like Sunday. On the latter the combination of the reverb effect on the guitar on and Moz’ voice is epic.
A classic not to overlook..
Great one from the Waterboys!
A super collection of songs here, summing up the energy and great i die sound of the early R.E.M. before going mainstream
Powerful raw energy, yet melodic and meaningful lyrics
U2 at their peak. Everything works here. A vibrant atmosphere, solid musicianship, strong lyrics, and on top excellent production and sound engineering. Brian Eno and Daniel Landis getting the best out of the band
Aggresive raw nerve. Here and there it works. Here and there it is just noisy. Too noisy imo.
Yeah! So vibrant!
Oh no thanks
Did not find it that special when it came out. But it has grown on me since. The weirdness I did not get initially I really like today. Not an easy listen here, but give it a chance!
Solid, no bullshit, rock n roll.
Too old School for me
One of their best
Ok. Prog rock
Nothing special
Great mix of ambient electronica, house, dub step, for your 90’s rave party. Would have liked more vocals though.
Beach boys getting more serious here as for the arrangement and lyrics are concerned. Love it. A true classic
Never a Big fan, but then again, this is ok groovy stuff.
Hmmm, Not the best from Marvin Gaye.
Easy listening happy tunes. Makes you smile on a Sunday morning as soundtrack to a nice cup of coffee
Really?
Classic smooth 80’es
Not interesting
Latin jazz-rock landmark album. But also dated
No thanks
Groovy jazz. Love it
Not keen on soundtracks in general. Too much unimportant fillers. However the actual songs here are great.
Nice music somehow, but does not really get to me
Overrated… never understood the hype about Red Hot Chili Peppers and this album. Decent rock, but not really more than that
Not a big fan of rap and newer hip hop. And this one doesn’t change my views..
Beatiful!
Not for me
Led Zep rocks on.. and here with folk/singer/song elements, demonstrating that they were much more than the average rock band.
Some werd spacy funky rockin stuff
Solid album, but not as groundbreaking as the previous DM albums. OK, Never let me down again is a massive hit off course, and great song.
Soft RnB…nice, but also a bit on the boring side in retrospective
Wouw.. why do I need this?
The essense of Country Rock. Right here!
Hmmm. A bit to weird for me
No. Sorry..
Legendarisk blues rock. A true anthem
A true landmark recording
Not that special
Love it… (well, love most of Madness albums actually). Fresh and lyrics with a twist
No
No thanks
Pop pretending to be rock
Yeah. Love it, no bullshit here
Fantastic!
Weird
Never a big fan of Queen. Decent ok album, but not more than that
Yet another weird album, where I tend to find that it is in this list for curiousity reasons rather than it being actually good
A classic!
Well, Dylan is a great songwriter, for sure. However, not sure why a forgotten live recording should be in this list, when there are so many original Dylan albums we could enjoy instead.
Wouw… how the trip hop beats are annoying, when you get them repeated like this over and over.. nothing against ambient electronica, but here it is getting quite boring
No thanks
Nice one
Powergul!
Swing jazz, which is not really my kind of jazz. Also a bit dated. not a favourite
Naahh
One of the greats in rock. Masterpiece.
Classic soul from a great Singer, but quite dated
Not for me
Bowie in top form. Great one
Decent rock. And that’s it
Psychedelia with electronic elements. Not a favourite, but interesting
Legendary!
Wouw..Girl power punk. Some great songs, some are just noisy and annoying
Hard hitting glam rock from Queen. Personally prefer this to the more progressive albums. Quite ok.
Great voice, but a sound that is dated. Getting boring after a few songs
Favourite MJ album. Before here became king of pop, and weird. Here it is about funk and soul
Nothing special really. Yet another 1001 album that I apparently did not have to listen to before I die
True Masterpiece. And superb production.
Iconic metal album. That’s it. Powerful
Beautiful album. One of the best by the Beatles
So cool! Picking up a 60’s/early 70’s mods vibe, but then adding 80’s indierock, making it unique at the time. Still love it today!
RIpping off Blg Flag, Dead Kennedys, etc.. The question is why..
Great pop album
Hmm.. not sure what to think. Not a favourite
Oh no.. Ray Charles, an RnB genious for sure, but not on this album, where he is loosing it. Very boring and disappointing
Yes! Quintessential indierock. Superb noisy mix of catchy grooves and hook-lines and solid guitar work
Easy listening country, but not really anything standing out. Gets boring after some songs
Beautiful album
Decent fresh debut by the Who. Not their best but quite good nevertheless
Old School RnR. Quite ok.
Not my music
Waste of time
Fantastic lyrics. Music more in the average
Not my kind of music
Solid glam rock. Love it! And has got Metal Guru on it
Nice and funky
Kind of ok… but never a dedicated country fan
Cool stuff
Great album. Here when Bowie really stood out and made a difference from the average
Musically it has a great vibe all the way through, and with a lot of catchy parts. All in all it is getting too long, as with a lot of progressive 70s stuff. So, kind of ok, but there are better Genesis albums, both with Peter Gabriel and without him
Good vibe, but also too noisy in my taste, and becomes quite monotonous units entirety
Interesting here and there, but caught in a 90s time capsule, sounding dated.
Favourite Springsteen album. Fantastic.
Making a difference to other much that came out these years, as always with Bowie. So much going on here. In a good and interesting way
Not the kind of music I like. Boring to some extend
Electronica Tango.. A Strange combination, but it works..
A classic!
Early Beatles, somehow prefer their later stuff, this sound quite dated
Another essentiel 80’s album. Like it
Love it!
For me this is the album where Beatles started to be interesting. Catchy tunes here, great vocal harmonies and rock ‘n roll
Weird and somehow boring
Not amongst the greatest Springsteen albums, but solid decent work.
A great album!
Quite special this one. Not easy listening, but with interesting great elements
Reinventing garage rock? Yeahh
Strong album by the Beach Boys. In my book it is just as good as the legendary Pet Sounds album
Mods meets psychedelia. Like it! And then Time of the season. What a great tune
Solid indierock from Bowie with some references to the classic Berlin albums.
Average..
Not my favourite type of music. This is a solid album though
No thanks
No thanks
Dated 60’s sound (obviously). But with some ok blues tunes on it
Nice refreshing catchy singer/song writer album
A lot of weird stuff going on here. Too weird imo
Vibrant with a sad but yet warm and beautiful twist, and stories being told on top of the music, not taking any easy short-cuts. Great album
Don’t get it, but ok, never really got captured by hip-hop music. Not my kind of music
Waouw.. have never been a big fan of big band jazz, but this one here is magic! Powerful
Nice and decent indie rock. Sounds a bit dated today though
Mods.. quite nice
Hmm. Doesn’t really get to me
Yes! A lot of energy here, and in a cool way. Great stuff!
Dated. Does not really stand out
Perhaps funny in the 60’s. Not today though.
What’s that with the masks??.. I suppose it is supposed to be cool. I find it ridiculuos.
Njaahh, not a favourite in my world
Great Album. A Classic!
Fantastic!
Nice Old School Jazz, but nothing exceptional
Energetic, a landmark new wave album. Howard Devoto was at his peak here.
There is a nice vibe going on here. Singer/song with some twists here and there
A defining moment for the Clash, and punk/garage rock. A true classic
A giant when it came out, and still a great album. In retrospective I do find it a bit too mainstream, and would consider a few other Springsteen albums, both earlier and later, to be better
A weird thing from Miles here. Interesting rather than good
Kofi Olomide??
Love this one. Essential 60’s psychedelia
Beautiful. Easy and intelligent listening
Weird and complex. Like Monk, but not a favourite
Great album!
Kind of ok here an there, but overall not hat special
Decent work, but not exceptional. Title track has something though
No thanks. Not a fan of hip hop, and this is not the album that could make me change direction
A bit too happy for me. But ok, Take your Mama. Great song, at least as a party song
Not really exciting. Once again an ok album, but why it is in a list of “must hear” I dont know.
Weird and Strange, rather than good music
Includes great songs for a party. Le Freak obviously. But also somehow boring, listening to the whole album from start to finish
Good, energetic, but nothing more
Compilation album?!?? Why? Music here is absolutely great, but the idea of putting a compilation album on this list is beyond my comprehension, and hitting a low.
A Classic. One of the first albums I bought as a teenager around 1980. And still enjoy it today.
Good stuff
Fantastic. 3 super musicians in their most creative moment, and then with Jim Morrison adding the x-factor
When heavy rock was a groovy thing..
Never a fan.. and listening again does not change it
Nice mix of RNB and Jazz
Solid album. This is the album, where PIL really found their defining sound and form, moving away from the garage/punk origin.
Too pop for my taste, but nevertheless includes Monkeys too tight to mention. A classic 80s party song.
Great Old School straight forward heavy rock
Pogues at their best. Back then a new take on traditionel Irish folk music. Today still good
Personally this was the first full album by the Smiths that I got to know back in the 80’s, only having heard a few of the earlier singles prior to that. It made a big impact on my musical taste. The combination of very melodic indierock with lyrics put together very differently to what was the standard those days. I am still fond of this album. A lot, although I came to learn that it is not even the best of the Smiths
This kind of symphonic/progressive rock never captured me, and still doesn´t
Trance techno… For sure there are groovy moments, that would work fine at late night disco Dance floor. Only as a listening album, its getting monotonous after a short while. Not for me.. prefer music with people playing instruments anyway
Ha ha.. essential 80’s hair metal… Always Jump at parties back then. But now… very dated
Fantastic album. A lot of vibe here, and then storytelling lyrics. Dylan when he is best.
Not iconic as the first album, but still outstanding to some extend. And solid production
Oh no..
Fantastic album. Loved it back in the early 80’s when released. Still love it today.
Nice and solid, but not exceptional.
Not my kind of music really. Too clinical
No thanks
Nice one :-)
Ohh no.. waste of time.. again
I know it is a classic. I like a lot of what Byrds, Buffalo Springfield and Neil Young put out, but then this one never really got to me.. don’t know why. Guess I find it boring to some extend.
Wouww.. this one brings back memories to my teenage years. Never a big fan, but then there is a certain nostalgia in a positive way.
No thanks
Cool Indie rock/dance mix. A new fantastic thing when it came out, but not that magic any longer
Many find it great, I find it boring and average
Very defining album, showcasing Bossa Nova to an international audience. Love it
Nothing really exceptional here
Fantastic mix up of glam and synth pop.
Hmmm.. very noisy.. but ok.
Layla stands out. Other tunes are pretty average
As always with Springsteen and the E-street band there is a solid core of singer-song rock n roll. Several more anonymous tracks here. So, quite good, but not amongst the best
70’s soft rock. Not that exciting today, but good decent work
Oh no
Boring
Hmm.. ok classic soul, but without really standing out as anything special
Moving away from the sound and style of the previous albums, that I really love. A lot of credit has been given to this album for its Experimentarium approach, but I general find it boring, with only a few songs with the quality of earlier material
Nothing special really
Great!.. Always considered THE punk rock album, and sure it is one of the defining albums for that whole sub-culture, but listening to it, the music is great too, also retrospecively.
Beatiful… just beatiful
Stupid band name, but music is quite good. There is an interesting going through this album
Well… kind of pleasant easy listening, but lack of nerve
Hmmm.. Don’t know about this one really. OK I suppose but not more than that
Hip hop.. I don´t likør hip hop
Decent indie rock, but not exceptional
No thanks
Stupid band name - but great music!
No thanks
Beautiful Music, supporting beautiful lyrics
Never a fan of Madonna… but this album is great. Groovy electronica
Waste of time
Song by song it is great, but that is what it is. A collection of songs, rather than an album with a certain direction or back bone. So, probably not a popular opinion, but for that reason I somehow find it overrated and average
Along with Kraftwerk and Ultravox, this is where synthpop and electronic indierock started. Love it!
Oh no..
Nice… the sound is trapped in an 80’s universe, and a bit dated. However quite fresh and solid production
The Sound here is quite dated, but nevertheless there is a cool vibe going on. A big fan of 60’s psychedelia for the atmosphere it captures. Very present on this album, a true underground classic. Love it
True classic. From the first albums by Hendrix and the Experience, here is where everthing comes together, groovy mix of blues and psychedelia.
A lot of strange things going on here. Too much for my taste
No..
Melodic punk. An indierock landmark recording.
Very weird. Not a fan
NIce laid back atmosphere, but also boring
Average indierock. Not bad, but nothing special
Yet another average indierock album, and a Singer that gives me a headache..
Just don’t get it. Cannot figure out which direction this album wish to take. Getting on my nerves
Laid back indierock.
Indierock with interesting twists. Like it. One of the albums that grows on you after a while
Oh nooo
Boring…
Mainstream late 70s glam rock. Nothing special really
Noisy rock… too noisy.. getting on my nerves
Well… Cohen. What’s not to like
Beatiful music and a lot of atmosphere. Gets a little boring imo thoughwith only piano over the full album length.
Solid Americana heavy rock, wiith a typical 70’s sound, but nothing exceptional. Beth is a nice ballade though
Too soft… Technically super musicianship, but it is music without an edge, which I find rather boring after a while
Fantastic.. nothing less
Love Reggae, and this one! The best Peter TOsh album
No, thank you. The aggresive approach is too much imo
OK. Decent rock here, but that’s it for me. Never understand the hype about FNM
Hmmm.. another album I did not need to hear before I die. So boring and dated
Oh no.. waste of time. So overrated..
Not bad, some groovy stuff here.
Quite ok easy listening, but also a bit boring after a few songs
Queen of weird. Too weird
Nothing special really
Nice one but better Stones albums came later
Ohh.. what the f… so bad
Iconic!
Oh no..
Progressive pop/rock in a nice way.
Hmm.. a lot of energy, but musically not really offering much
Don’t get it really. OK, but not something I had to listen to before I die
A cozy atmosphere surrounds this album. Really nice, although songs are a bit anonymous
Great album!
Well.. boring somehow. Too dated for my taste
Nice one, with several of the classics on it
OK Album, but not exceptional as Back to Black
This is a great album!
Kind of album that grows on you. It is weird up front, but in an interesting way.
A great album by Stevie. A fantastic blend of funky and laid back cozyness
Groovy indie with a raw nerve. Tunes with guest vocalist contribution in general stand out as the better ones though. Those without get boring after a while
Naaa.. not really my thing
Epic
Strange album, but not bad
The production is a bit messy, but love it. The sound of a band on the way forward
Never really a fan of Garbage. Music is not bad, just find it boring here and there
Waste of time
Weird….
Thank you, but no thanks
One of the defining albums from when the US new wave scene started evolving. Down the same alley as Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Blondie, Talking Heads, Television. Love it!
No thanks, do not understand why I should listen to this??!?
Epic! Amongst the key albums defining the US new-wave/punk scene coming up in the following 5-6 years. An as well an album that sounds fresh today some 50 years later.
The start of something magic
Solid album. And The ballad of Lucy Jordan.. What a tune!
The Vines was quite hyped when this album was released. Retrospectively it is not really standing out. Solid ok, but not exceptional
Again one of those albums, that really hit something when it came out, but now sounds dated, and a bit boring
Epic! This was a game changing album on the alternative rock scene when it came out. Still has quality, musically and lyrically
Fantastic album. A modern classic. Amy had so much soul, and she is really delivering here
Pop-music and hip-hop mixture. Not for me please
Hmmm. Yet again an album, where I wonder why it is on the list.
A Great Album.. like it a lot!
Hmm.. ok, but not exceptional
Yeah. A true new wave/mods revival revival classic.
Very atmospheric indie rock. Although recorded over a longer period, it maintains a strong vibrant back-bone.
Nice…
No thanks
OK, but not as good as those fantastic albums that followed..
Hmm
Well.. Interesting rather than good
Quite alright this one. Sounds a bit dated today.
Not for me
Not really my kind of music.
No thanks
Ok solid indierock. But not a fan, something about the vocals that gets on my nerves after a few songs
No…
Like it!
Kind of average…
A Great album from Gabriel. For me it is one of the High peaks in his discography
A collection of songs rather than an album with a backbone keeping things together as a whole. Somes songs a good though
Really weird, going in too many directions for my taste, lacking basic rythm and groove
wouw.. what a trip. Getting too weird for my taste
As an album it is nothing special really. BUT it got some of the greatest 80s glam-rock songs on it. Classics that are still strong today.
Another 80s glam-rock/soft heavy metal album. OK songs on it but a sound and style that is somehow dated at this time
Wild! Pretty cool in fact, but in smaller brites. Over the whole album, it gets on my nerves
Strong lyrics supported by great music. Billy Bragg really had some good things going on at this time.
OK, some nice grooves here and there, but in general quite boring, and a lot of weird alectronics that might have sounded cool for a clubbing audience some time back in the 90’s, but not really long lasting
Several times I have asked myself about the criteria for compiling this list. Once again it is the case when listening to this album by Gene Clark. For some reason someone things it is important that I should listen to the weakest solo album made by Gene Clark before I die. It is not really bad, but just boring compared to earlier of his albums and as well all the albums by the Byrds when he was still in that band. Strange..
A band releasing a song called Rhododendron. Hmmm difficult to take it seriously. Some melodic tunes but that is it. Sorry
Great album! Yeah!
Wow.. how did this ever get released. Sounds like some guys jamming and fooling around in the rehearsal room. Probably they had good fun, but why should the rest of us be bothered?
Hmm. Not my music
Solid indierock, but not really standing out
Really special, and interesting this one. A melting pot of indiepop, classical music, Celtic folk, cabaret. Not sure if I get it, but it is nevertheless appealing in a Strange wa.
Feeling good laid back country/folk. And Angel of Montgomery, what a fine song
Classic, although dated..
An all time favourite!
Boring…
No..
A bit dated new-wave sound, but quite ok.
Classic!
Average indie rock
An album not to be overlooked. Several of the classics are on it
Industrial indie. Like when released. Not so much any longer
Nothing special.. but then again, never a big fan of George Michael. Some catchy hits, but that is it for me. Also the case here.
Don’t really know about this one. It is for sure interesting, but as with a lot of symphonic/prog rock, I lack an organic spontaneous vibe. Hmm
OK decent Rock n Roll album. Never understood all the hype about GnR though. Find them overrate somehow.
A great album. Both musically and lyrically it offers so much more than the average glam rock of the time. Epic
Average indie pop
Nice voice, decent music, but boring
Not interesting. Stück in time.
Attitude and glam rock with a raw nerve. Not really standing the test of time, but obviously a defining album for the US punk rock scene evolving some years after. So not to be neglected after all.
The hybrid of folk and rock so typical for early 70’s US rock scene. Obviously the title track is a classic, but in general its dated
A very 80’s indiepop sound, and not really taht exciting. The lyrics are interesting though, bringing a certain quality
Hmmm. The Beatles… the world class solidly crafted music and lyrics is practically impossible to follow up with anything. And it shows here. Actually not a bad album, but just not really exceptional. Where the Beatles were standing out, this is quite mainstream.
Never the bogfest fan of Elvis Costello, but must admit that this album is pretty decent
Ahh. Not really my thing
Oh no… music for a museum
Nothing special here.. from an overrated band.
Boring
Not that good..
World class. So vibrant all the way
Yes! Rock on! Perfect combo of rock n roll and punk
Nice one! Reggae when it is best
Decent recording, but not really my kind of music
Oh no..
Iconic!
Very nice. Catchy pop songs with an indie twist
Fantastic! Superb mix of psychedelia and groovy power blues
Like it. Indeed Morrissey at his best
Somehow weird… too weird for me
Love it. Neil Young really has music and lyrics coming together perfectly here.
Terrible
Wouw.. a very unpleasant experience
Not for me
Hmmm… interesting moments here and there, but in general to weird for my taste.
Not a favourite for me, from start to finish, but there is a lot of nice poetry and beautiful melancholy atmosphere here and there
This album is moving 1970’s prog/rock into the 80s. Not bad, but not exceptional.
Interesting electronic elements in it, and with a nice drive. The inspiration to many of the early new wave bands of late 70s and early 80s is obvious
I suppose you have to be a country lover to really like this one. I am not. However, the vocal harmonies with Emmylou Harris are beautiful though, and adds some magic here and there. Without this it would have been boring, especially the religious elements…
The album in its entirety is overrated in my opinion. A lot of the interlude elements connecting the tracks I find boring. However at the same time some of Marvin Gayes finest songs are on this album. And that is magic!
Such a great musician Jack White. This album is a fantastic blend of Indierock, grunge and blues. Love it.
No thanks
Ohh. I like this one. This is the first solo album from Morrissey where he stood out from the Smiths shadow. Off course some classic Morrissey songs already on the previous albums (Everyday is like Sunday, November spawned a monster, Suedehead, etc.) but then also a lot of fillers, and without clear direction. Here everything comes together as a whole, and with brilliant guitar work by the two sidemen Boz Boorer and Alain Whyte.
This album was new to me, and quite a surprise. I have never listened a lot to Armatrading, but do recall she had some decent rock albums out in the early 80’s (Me Myself, and The Key) very energetic stuff as far as I remember. However, here its quite a different style, like a blend between soul and singer-song folk music, with a very warm pleasant nerve through teh whole album. I really like. Must listen to more Armatrading now..
Indie pop??!? No.. just boring electronica-RnB
Why this? It is soooo boring
Quite interesting Electronic indie. Some inspiration from Massive Attack and Portishead here and there, although not at this level. But OK
Love it! New Wave going Funkadelic. This album shows that Talking Heads is so much more than David Byrne
Anti Music… Do not get why it is important to listen to this before I die. Wast of time really
Shoegaze going grunge? OR grunge going Shoegaze? Either way it is not very exciting retrospectively
Nice laid back easy listening pop-rock up front. A quite dated 80’s sound though, getting boring over the whole album
Pure Magic. if there ever was a perfect album, this is it..
Love the energy. But that’s it really
Naahh, not really for me.
Yes! Solid album from Peter Gabriel. An 80’s landmark recording.
Maybe interesting for the die hard country fans. I am not a die hard country fan..
Nice and solid. Grunge elements and early US punk elements coming together in a good way
Funky groovy stuff here, but also without real direction, which I am missing
Yeah! This is how a perfect modern stoner rock album should be made!
One of the better ones…..
Hmm, not really for me
Nice laid back. Not complicated music here, but great musicianship, and strong vocal performance by Norah. A lot of talent shown here
Nice easy listening indie. Never heard it before, but a good listen. Will definitely check out more stuff by the Thrills
This is good. Original hip hop with a soul and funk vibe. And real life story telling going on here. Not like todays gangster rap nonsense
OK easy listening 60’s pop-rock, although quite dated, and somehow gets boring after a while
Atmospheric and vibrant indierock. Some great songs on it, although no outstanding “hits”
Fantastic. Roxy Music at their best. With a personal favourite, The thrill of it all and then classics like Out of the Blue and Casanova
Not my kind of music, although some catchy and groovy elements here and there
Very melodic rock album with some singer-song and folk elements. Really like it
From an album perspective there is no direction here. Songs are mixing up various styles. Some of them hitting an interesting atmosphere, some are just weird. After a while I am getting bored
Boring… Is it actually composed tracks? IT sounds more like a DJ-electronic lounge set
I was quite excited about this album when it was released, being a fan of Blur, The Clash and The Verve. I was also very disappointed when I listened to it back then, and listening to it again now, still was not that exciting. It is very average considering the great band the members came from.
A lot of country.. too much for me
Wouw.. this is bad..
Easy listening jazz.. I am faling asleep
Nice laid back atmosphere and soft vibes throughout the album, but also a bit boring
Yeah! Groovy Rock n Roll!
OK, but not fantastic
Used to listen a lot to early Julian Cope, up to around 1985-86, where I went in other directions. So this one was an interesting revisit, and an ok one..
OK, 1-2 good songs but overall it is quite boring. Dated sound..
A lot of people tell me Lenny Kravitz is great, but I never figurered why. OK. The title track here is decent, but in general the music does not speak to me
I never laid much attention to Spacemen 3 back in the day when this album was released. Must say that giving it a listen now was a nice experience. Not that it is fantastic, but there are several interesting tracks on it
Nice. This is indeed a source of inspiration for so much RnB and rock music that came later
So much quality musicianship here. A collection of many beautiful songs, where some could have been Beatles material. Always considered Harrison to be among the greatest song writers in the late 60’s. Only bad luck for him that while he might have been among the greatest 25 song writers of this period, he was in the same band as 2 other songwriters that would top the same list..
This is average pop music. Nothing special about it.
Yeah! A great album!
Wouw!… This is cool and groovy RnR all the way!
Hmmm. Putting music to Burkowsky.. All singing does not have to be about a beautiful and trainer singing voice. Tom Waits proves it here.. nice album
Never really understood the fuzz about Beck. Interesting album ok, but good, hmm not really
Don’t really get it.. This is an ok album, but why on this list. The really great ones came later..
Feel good easy listening from Paul Simon Well crafted, but also a bit boring..
Beautiful voice for sure, but very dated… not a favourite
Weird stuff.. in a great way!
A fantastic album. Maybe even better than the debut?..Ahh maybe not, but fantastic and without double one of the albums making the foundation for the alternative/indie-rock scene evolving during teh late 70’s
Find it a bit boring..
A glam rock kind of thing.. with interesting lyrics. I like it
A very 80’s synth sound. Some weird stuff here mixed with a few catchy songs. Ok, but not that memorable, imo..
It’s an interesting album somehow. A blend of Electro funk and pop music ballads. Not a favourite album for me, but then there are the singles drawn from it, that really stand out. To me it is 3 stars for Sign o’ the times, the album, plus an additional star for Sign ‘o the times, the song
Boring..
Never understood the hype here… sorry
Nice easy listening here.
Perhaps fantastic in 1994, with respect to technology available at the time. Now, Electronic music has developed so much since then, and today this just sounds dull
Great indie rock album. Kind of extrovert shoegaze
Yet another album released at the tail end of the brit pop era… and so it sounds, Nice melodic indie pop, but nothing really standing out at this point in time that several bands had not already done in the 2-3 years before.
Tom Waits is really not a great singer… I suppose this is somehow why he has become famous. But he cannot sing.. there is a kind of authentic blues feel on this album, but that about it
The rise of a great band. AFter the lo-fi debut, here is where Arcade Fire really found their signature sound and took off. No cars go,,,, yeah!
The whole atmosphere created here is magic. One of many peak points for Mr. Jones.. (or “Low” in this case…)
Hmmm. Interesting, but sounds more like the soundtrack to a 70’s movie, than music in its own right. Not really a favourite
Wouw.. somehow a classic back in the day. Hardcore punk meets heavy metal. However getting old I suppose. Playing the album in its entirety and my ears hurt…. Nice for a song or too, but then… too much
Typical 70’s soft rock.. not really for me
OK music, but somehow boring
Rap.. No thanks
Wow.. so cool so groovy. A classic!
Yeah! Rock on!
The best….
Very interesting blend of world music and trip-hop electronica.. Not sure if I really like it, but there is a certain exciting atmosphere around it
U2 far from their peak. A solid album though with a few a few stand out tracks, like Stuck in a moment and Beautiful day.
Kind of like this album for the energy and freshness of the tracks. It is not fantastic, but quite good still
Psychedelia meets Electronica… and it is quite exciting..
Real Music.. Great story telling, accompanied by acoutsic guitar and harmonica. Sometimes it doesn’t take more than that…
Nice for easy listening, but that is it really
I was never one for hip hop. But ok, credit for teh party vibe BB are creating here..
Wow… This one captures the essense of early 80s post-punk/Indierock. Epic! Once I discovered this album some time back in 82-83 it was on a regular spin for the next 8-10 years during my high school years and some years after. Even today I listen to it once in a while… Up there with the top 3-5 best albums by the Cure
Terrible.. Sugar coated old-school country. It’s just too much
Seems to be Willie Nelson insisting on recording a handful of his own personal favourites, rather than finding covers that would actuallly fit him. Obviously there is the musicianship here as it should be, but weird picks, like Unchained Melody and All of me. He does not make a difference here.
Decent album, but not fantastic. In retrospect it makes you wonder why practically half of the songs were released as singles. 2 or 3 good songs, but hey, they are not all that good. Perhaps the record company did not have other artists at the time….
You have to be an American die hard Hill-Billy country fan to love this album… well, I am not. Here is the point where the Byrds moves away from the earlier, blend of Beach Boys vocal harmonies and jangling psychedelic guitars. This I find sad..
Love it.. Japan evolving from wannabe glam-rockers, to defining their own unique art-rock indie sound..
Probably what Velvet Underground would have sounds like if they had been an 80’s band. A nice and interesting vibe is going on here, but the musicianship and vocals are weak. Anyhow, as with VU, I get the feeling that this is not what it is about anyway. Rather it is a kind of we don’t care if we are not that technically skilled, we come out with something more important than that, as an art thing. I am divided… but overall it does not really appeal to me. Probably because I do not really get the lyrics either.
Quite ok Pop/modern RnB here, obviously pulling inspiration from Prince. However after some tunes you realise that it is without the Prince x-factor though. So decent, but not outstanding…
Hmm. Not that exciting actually, but Get it on, on the other hand, iconic!
So groooovy. Love it!
Laid back low-key indie. Nothing exciting here really
Some regard this one an indie classic. I don’t, just find it boring retrospectively..
Nice easy listening, although not that memorable
Cannot figure out why this album is on the list. It is really poor
Hmm.. boring hillbilly stuff
Legendary punk rock from early 80s. Loved this kind of music as a teenager back then… but now I am older, and have moves on
Another iconic album by Dylan. A true favourite of mine
Indie electronica.. weird stuff here and there. Exciting melancholic stuff here and there.. kind of an ok album
Really bad
Fantastic… Essential melodic garage indie rock. And so vibrant
A nice vibe here. Nothing exceptional but quite ok laid back easy listening soft rock.
Hmm.. not for me
Like the atmosphere created here. Kind of updated shoegaze, with more electronica. Only after some songs it gets a bit boring though. Songs lack variation for the album to really take off.. imo..
Collection of electronic dance tracks good for discoteques or clubs… but not very exciting in its entirety as an album. Then it is too much synthesizer programmerne rather than real music. Adding vocals might have improved the overall impression, but there are none..
Nice one. Hip hop with heavy rock samples..
Love it!
Not bad this one. Indierock fro night clubbing. WOuld have liked more vocals, but still there is a lot of cool groovy stuff going on here
Nice electronic indierock. A bit average, but like it at least for the Karen O dramatic vocals
Never was a big fan of hip hop, but the mixing up with laid back groovy soul and RnB elements makes a difference here. There is a nice vibe going on throughout this album, so not so bad I guess…
Love it!. Love the Who. Not their best album, but still love it
The essence of early 80’s new wave. An iconic great album!
Noise in the making, beauty in the noise?.. great elements here and there, but above all it like it is getting to conceptional. Noise rock for the purpose of noise rock, lacking groove and vibe.. I recall listening to this album back in the day, and not quite getting on board, although Sonic Youth was a big thing then (late 80’s). It hasn’t really changed now that I give it a new listen.
Nice laid back atmosphere here. Nice folk/singer-song with an indie twist
Hmm.. Beautiful voice, you can’t take that away from Emmylou Harris, but then here we are stuck in old school country land, with all its sugar coated elements.. like the strings on the slower tunes. Too much for my taste
