I will not be listening to ACDC sorry
The other day I was thinking what will be the worst album on this list. This immediately came to mind. I actually don't think this is complete garbage, but it's quite close. I'll get the things I like about it out of the way. The intro to Hells Bells sounds pretty great and actually makes up for an interesting start. The riff on the title track is undeniably fun and memorable. And I actually do like You Shook Me All Night Long, it's the only song here that I would describe as fun. Now onto the things that I don't like! Oh boy... It's a common consensus that AC/DC is a good band ruined by a bad vocalist. I actually have to disagree with that. They are a mediocre and generic band ruined by one of the worst vocalists ever. It's a mystery to me how so many great vocalists are considered too weird for the common audience in a world when shit like this sold millions and millions of copies. Seriously, what? This guy has the vocal chops of your uncle after 10 drinks on a karaoke night in a local pub. It ruins some perfectly decent songs, like the title track or Shoot to Thrill. The thing is, with a better vocalist they would have been better, but not by that much. The music is just very simple and kinda generic late 70s early 80s hard rock. The riffs are very samey, they're fine but barely interesting. The drumming is so simple that I'm convinced if you gave a monkey a drunset it would come up with some better rhythms. There is really no point in listening to this. I can understand liking the bigger songs, but the rest of an album is such a nothing burger that I struggle to see anyone enjoying it.
Couldn't bring myself to finish this. Thuddingly one-note and with a vocalist whose voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I have never really understood the appeal of AC/DC when far better hard rock bands exist.
Me before I played this album: “oh interesting. I wonder if they have anything good other than the popular hits.” Me after I played this album: “why did I think that. I don’t even like their hits.”
I do not like ACDC. I actually hate them, so no I did not like this.
BYOOWWWWW AWAWAAAHHHHHH!!!!! this shit fucking sucks deserves to be one of the 1001? imagine how funny it would be if it wasn't
I can't stand AC/DC. It's music for musically challenged alcoholics.
A lot of people back then loved AC/DC (alternating current/direct current). High school pop music calendars were full of it. Back then, I didn't appreciate it that much. Listening back to it, I still don't.
Only know the hits. Coming off Pink Floyd's The Wall. Need a straight rock album. May inflate my feelings. Track 1: Classic. A tribute to Bon Scott. Definitely has a dirge-like vibe to start off, but AC/DC can't contain their nature for too long. My only complaint is the length. I got it. Track 2: I like the story behind the lyrics, but it's just another AC/DC song. Wouldn't turn it on, but would leave it on if it played. Again, a bit long. I got it. Track 3: I don't think I like AC/DC. But in that way where I'm totally fine that other people like this. Sounds like a good time if you're into it. But I'm bored. It's like peeling out over the same skidmarks, over and over. I won't turn them off if the radio deems it AC/DC time. But I'm not enjoying myself. Track 4: AC/DC rock about blowjobs. Track 5: Gross. Is this a rape song? I'm turning down the next piece of cake offered to me. Was actually enjoying the riff before the lyrics started. Track 6: Another classic. Or is it? Sonically, yes. But this is my first time reading the lyrics. Worst rap song I've ever heard. Track 7: Another classic. I'm not horny enough for this album right now. Track 8: I'm not drunk enough for this album right now. I'm pretty sure that band did a cover of this song in Road House, or should have. As on the nose as a Dalton right hook. This album could have been the soundtrack to Road House. Track 9: What the hell... Track 10: i don't know if it's because of a previous song, but why was he looking in someone's bedroom? Overall: Four standout tracks, and surprise surprise, the four singles. The only songs with individual sonic identities, kind of. The rest is AC/DC slop. Hey, you want to hear the same noises at a roughly similar tempo again and again? The only other song that had a riff I was starting to like turned real rapey sounding. These lyrics other than Hell's Bells are ridiculous. And not good ridiculous. These are adults. 1/5. Good riddance. Never again. Hell's Bells is the only track I care about. Otherwise, boring. Maybe not background enough?
I hated every second of this except for some of the seconds during the title track, wow
Always been allergic to this. (1.5)
Didn’t expect much from this and it was much as I anticipated. Really crap lyrics accompanying monotonous sound.
I never had much use for AC/DC. Brian Johnson's voice really grates on me. Hard rock, arena rock leaves me flat. No subtlety.
Simple, misogynistic, overrated rock music. Big riffs, tasteful solos but, overall, a very flat and one-dimensional experience. Personally, I don't get the hype. Sorry.
Very similar song after song
okay i guess
Honestly tried to give it a shot. Hells bells has a killer intro, and then goes downhill from there. This is a consistent problem with hard rock
I'd previously only consumed AC/DC casually, one song at a time, so I didn't appreciate how repetitive and grating they would be in album format. Each song is its own joke, often off-color, repeated ad nauseum for three minutes or so, you know, to make sure you get the joke. I couldn't bring myself to finish this.
Nah
➕nothing ➖all of it i’m sorry i know how influential classic rock is and the instrumental itself is not bad, i actually mostly enjoy the instrumental, but then the voice is so whiny and the falsetto… its not good. i just cannot stand the voice. it reminds me of like all of the most annoying fucking stranger things fans on planet earth and nick from freaks and geeks also my dad.
Go away in grey
(1.5 stars) AC/DC (and this album), are so conflicting. On the one hand, they are a riff machine. On the other, the lead singer sounds like Miss Piggy being tortured. Low-key unlistenable. I skimmed the 1001 list and there’s so many albums like this: ones from rock bands obsessed over by the most boring white man in a bar. Dunno if I can stick it out tbh.
Hate these guys, just cant do it
This is music for low IQ alcoholics with hearing damage.
Bad boys hard rock with a squeaky voice doesn’t do it for me.
Butt rock
AC/DC frustrate me endlessly. They have absolutely killer riffs and genuinely well written songs. But the vocals are just so fucking annoying that it completely ruins everything they touch.
not my type of music, just yelling in every song, just not my type all the songs sounds exactly the same 1/5
Hate this guy’s voice, and this style of music. Some nice riffs, syncopation.
One of my least favorite bands ever. Songs have been so overplayed. I understand the cultural importance to America, but oh my goodness. I dislike this band.
AC/DC exists for the same reason the Super Bowl and Las Vegas exist--they answer the question of how to be the most extravagant, over the top form of entertainment without being niche? How to enchant the lizard brain? It's absolute rubbish schlock-rock, but it's the MOST rubbish shlock-rock, and they've made a whole career of it.
Never been a fan of AC DC, vocals are awful, sound is generic.
I can’t detest it more.
Bad
Monotonous macho posturing with no light or shade.
Refused to listen.
Slop
A schreeching nightmare!
Gubbigt
bon scott forever
I just can't do AC/DC. I know they're great, and I do admire the original guitar licks, but the vocals are grating to me, and every song sounds the same. And all lack a message.
Partially listened before - inane caterwauling Favourite tracks: You Shook Me All Night Long, Shake A Leg
Not my cup of tea. All the songs kind of sound the same to me :/ but all the rock lovers must like it for a reason
Ughhhh how to even talk about this one, it feels weird when an album feels divisive depending on what age you are or if there's an expectation that you should react some type of way over it or not because you belong to some age group. I've seen the increased backlash against anything AC/DC since forever even tho I enjoyed some of their songs when I was younger, but obvious when you are like 12 and have 0 idea about music you can simply latch onto stuff that's very well known because, well, it's popular so it must be good, right? I'm not gonna sit here and pretend that the reason I disliked this album was some contrarian, fuck old music thing when I know I liked this stuff before or even now I still enjoy hard rock. But what I think it is for me with this one is just it's hard not to feel like it wears out its welcome quick because there's so little variety, not to echo the oldest joke about AC/DC but genuinely some songs felt so similar to each other in their tempo, their general instrumental, the singing, just everything blends in but even more just how little the songs stand out besides the first two, the rest just don't leave and impression and if it does it winds up being negative like with " Let Me Put My Love Into You" having really questionable lyrics which made me uncomfortable to listen to or "Shake a Leg" being when I just had gotten really tired with the album and wished it had ended on "Back in Black" which also felt worse to listen to on the album as a whole than on its own. I think the songs individually could be fine in the wild but on a whole 40 min album I just get so tired so quick of this sound. Maybe another AC/DC album will click better because it's more varied or psychedelic but as it stands, this one's a dud for me.
Meh
Slop, really only way to say it
I don't like rock
one of the Big Time Rock & Roll Bands whose popularity truly confounds me. i really don't think i'd be able to tell the difference between these tracks & anything on their other albums (though i don't mind you shook me all night long) the notion of this as some grandiose comeback falls short when the songwriting is stale after one verse/chorus cycle; most of these riffs sound like examples from the cd that comes with an introductory guitar lesson book this is great music for car sex after prom but not much else!
just cant get into acdc
Boooooooo
There’s just absolutely no redeeming qualities here. Brian Johnsons vocals just hit the annoyance nerve in my brain so directly, it’s almost impressive. 0* if I could.
If you like AC/DC, I do not trust you with the aux cord or with my drink.
I hate AC/DC
Just really can’t stand the main singer
*totally not easy listening to! Banging and squelching. Not music, more noise
Monotonous with a few stand out tracks.
Well, it's ACDC...
These guys wrote one song, changed the lyrics and title and recorded in again and again. And someone needs to explain to them that screaming isn't the same thing as singing.
Stupid screaming.
Jesus stop SHRIEKING!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hells bells- 3 shoot to thrill- did he just say there was too many women.... what did the women do to you man what are these lyrics 😭 2 what do you do for money honey- 2 or 3 givin the dog a bone- 2 let me put my love into you- ill scream. 1. "dont you struggle dont you fight" :I no more brother eugh
Ugh. I hate AC/DC. Not my jam. Music for high school jocks and other teenaged aholes. Enough said. I know all of these songs and I don't like any of them. One star. Next.
Complete and utter drivel. All they do is make some backhanded sex reference and repeat it to shitty basic music. This album is a perfect example of music made for people who barely passed high school. Just a fucking dumpster fire. The only thing worse than this album is the people who enjoy it.
You know, I really thought I'd hate this enough that it would instantly go into my shit list. I mean, I always thought AC/DC sucked, and I still do; the vocals are terrible, the riffs are boring, and each song feels like a copy paste job of the last, although usually worse. HOWEVER, this album was just dreadfully boring, and I don't know if that's enough of a sin to be instantly cast away. It's repetitive, but at least its relatively short, they could have easily stretched this out another twenty minutes and sixty year old dudes would still lap it up as if its the highest form of music, so I respect it for keeping it mercifully brief. Some of the tracks on here suck, and the whole thing reeks of soiled adult diapers, but I just don't have enough energy to care. Its bad, its terrible even, but its not the worst. Still getting a one though, lol
I don't do heavy metal. It's noise to me.
- not my style, but I can see why it is a classic - wouldn't add to playlist - not really a fan of the screaming lol
Dodge Ram commercial music... I hate this so much. I don't care if it's a classic it sucks. The weird rapey song that was like "don't you struggle don't you fight let me cut your cake with a knife" was ok though
I avoided the last AC/DC album on this list, but I gave this a spin hoping to change my opinion on them. Nope. They suck. Like royally suck to me. Every song sounds the same and the lead singers voice always comes off sounding like he’s stuck on the toilet trying desperately to squeeze one out. Not a fan.
0/5 no lo pude ni terminar
#1 in bands you'll hear 1001 times before you die whether you like it or not. Probably a 2 on its merits musically, but subtract 1 for how many times I've been subjected to it. The first 30-90 seconds of these songs where they play a catchy little intro lick then run through the main riff are pretty decent - the guitar sound is bright and noisy with the compressed tightness of an overdriven Marshall, pure rock. But then the vocals kick in and it's awful and the guitar just play the same dull riff over and over. So many of these songs sound just like each other. Think about what else was happening in rock and pop around 1977-1980 and this just sounds totally regressive. Music for grandads clinging on to being 14. AC/DC is so tame and rehearsed, lacking the exhilarating thrill and rawness of the actually fun great adolescent bands.
ugh
I wish I got ACDC...but I dont
Hated it, the instrumental was repetitive and the 'singing' was more like screaming.
Boring
I really don't like this music
Probably my hottest take, but I can’t stand to listen to AC/DC. I was hoping listening to the entire album would change my mind, but it didn’t. It made me appreciate the hits a little more, but everything else exemplifies the things I hate about hair metal/stadium rock. VERY subjective opinion, but this band has band forced into my ears since I was born. I’m sure others have a similar opinion of the Grateful Dead, but for me, AC/DC is that band I have no love for. 🤷
1.5
Gross
I guess this was the time to give it one more chance, it still sucks ass. Will I listen to again: 0%
I've never liked AC/DC. I only know their singles but I don't like any of them. I usually don't make it very long before changing the station if they come on the radio. I guess that makes sense because hard rock isn't really my thing. I can admit that they do what they set out to do well. But that thing isn't what I want to listen to. If the vocals were different maybe I could like it, but probably not. I did like the bells at the beginning of Hell's Bells. I made it one song in before I decided to quit while I'm ahead... if I never hear AC/DC again, it'll be too soon.
Can’t get along with his voice! Not my favorite for sure.
Äijärokki ei kyl lähe
I'm so sick of this band and all they're singles. I've heard this album enough. I don't need to go through it again. It might be a 1.5-2 star because Hells Bells is about the only song I can maybe tolerate in the right mood and you can't really deny the guitar work on here. However, I want my summary to show how much I hate AC/DC so I'll be rounding down on this one.
Don't like ACDC, generic rock cancer.
Heavy metal ..... screeching vocals ..... the guitars sound good but also become monotonous after a few songs. I can't listen to this album for long.
Not my cup of tea at all.
This album does not let up, pedal is to the metal. It's AC/DC, they know their lane and they stick to it. When they were mixing this album did they remove the bass from some songs entirely? Even when the bass is present it's not doing all that much of anything. Some pretty good guitar riffs (as is their trademark). Drums are boooring. I'm irritated by Angus Young when and AC/DC song comes on the radio - listening to him for 42 minutes is like a weird form of torture. Angus, I'd rather you keep your "love" away from me. I'll admit, Shook Me All Night Long, Shoot To Thrill and Shake a Leg get my head bobbing a bit. I think I enjoyed this slightly more than expected, still a 1/5.
I have never been a fan of AC/DC. However, I have never listened to a whole album of theirs before and I resolved to go into this one open minded and ready to try out some of their deeper tracks surrounded by some of their biggest hits. You know when there's a pressure difference across a doorway that slams the door shut as you pass? That pressure difference was AC/DC's music on the open doorway of my mind. By about one minute into the second track, I was absolutely sick of it. The guitar work on solos is quite competent, even good, representing the only thing I liked here. The bass and drums are terribly boring, the guitar outside of solos is nearly sheer power chords the entire time, I find Bon Scott's singing voice irritating, and the songs are uninteresting. The one brighter spot track wise is You Shook Me All Night Long, which isn't a great song but I definitely found myself grudgingly head bobbing a bit to it, indicating there is some redeeming quality in that tune. On reflection though it's like a half remembered dream, I can remember the general feeling of enjoying the song but my mind can't quite grasp why. The best thing about having to listen to this album is that I know it is AC/DC's best known album, so there is hope that it is their only offering on this list. Some rock and roll is, in fact, noise pollution.
Trash.
why does he sing like that? it's annoying
Just soooo slow. I believe fans would call it "driving".
This is the starter-pack music you show to a classroom of middle school prep students to teach them “Intro to Rock n Roll.” It is not the music you show to an old, tired woman doing a puzzle. By “Honey Whatchoo Do For Money” this album was a 1 for me. Painfully formulaic and even a breezy 42 minutes felt too long.
No.
nothing on eaarth could make me listen to this
Snore
did a 7 year old write these song lyrics? riffs are the only thing saving this trash
my hatred for them is admittedly irrational but god I can't stand em
Shite hate AC/DC
Självklart inte min grej, även om jag är lite svag för You shook me all night long p.g.a. grottmanversionen.
I'm beyond tired of hearing the singles and I felt that the other songs were mostly fillers, but the truth is that I'm not a fan at all. 40 minutes of AC/DC is just way more than I can take. Maybe one day I'll become some 55 years old dude having fights in dive bars and then I'll change my mind about them.
Not in the mood
Lots of volume on these song; Back in Black and Hells Bells are the top songs for me.
Did not enjoy
This just gives me bad memories from High School, especially Brian Johnson’s voice. Eg the intro to Hell’s Bells is alright, especially at a Basketball game, but when he starts singing I just have to shut it down. Sheesh.
Basic drum patterns and whiny voice is really not my thing.
I never really got into AC/DC. Not a fan of the music or the lyrics at all lol. 2/10
För skrikigt. Orkar ej lyssna klart…
His voice is so grating. Can’t listen to more than 2 songs at a time
Dull. Nothing barely stands out.
Got about two songs in and I backed out. I absolutely can't stand Brian Johnson's voice. The music was solid, but without a good lead singer it falls apart.
Heavy metal? I don't need to hear any more before I die...
Hasn’t aged well has it
