I can see the talent and influence but it was just too jarring for me to enjoy.

Did not realize how many classics are on this album. Perfect the whole way through. Love's in Need of Love Today is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Amazing, hypnotic. Heart skipped a beat stands out as best track.

It's just ok

Beautiful, love the jazz elements. Last song moved me to tears, sounds like somebody actively dying and coming to terms with their death, which I guess it was.

Uninteresting

Beautiful, cannot believe this is isn't more widely reguarded. Her voice is so unique and moving, the emotions of every song are so masterfully and uniquely laid out.

Would have been higher but the heavy xylophone took me out of it.

Does not age well, don't really want to hear social commentary from this douche. Also I like the Regine songs, especially Sprawl 2 but her voice is so thin.

It's so hard to judge their albums objectively for obvious reasons, but I just cannot get fully behind most of the vocals and lyrics. Nothing sounds as innovative or meaningful as their contemporaries like the Rolling Stones or Kinks. This album obviously has some talented writing and is close to their best work imo, but even this has some pablum like Good Day Sunshine.

Unexpectedly not very sensual. Needs to be a LOT smoother and sexier to warrant the sloooooowwww buildup of these songs.

I like it but is nothing too original and a little monotonous

I just cannot swallow this attempt at emotion, it rings so hollow and trite to me.

Appreciate the energy and punk riffs, hard to stomach his voice at times.

It's fine as far as these things go. I prefer Tom Petty if I'm going to listen to this branch of rock.

I like it, but feels like it doesn't hold steam the whole way through, no songs after Search and Destroy reach that level of excitement.

The blandest of bland bands

Perhaps I'm biased but this is an early 10s faux hipster boy in song form.

Very generic punk rhythms and the vocals/lyrics feel vulgar and grating to me. Weird blend of schlock/glam/punk, I don't like it.

Very smooth, totally pulls off the spoken/sung talk downs. The hits are great but I was surprised to be jamming even more to some of the non-singles, especially What It Comes Down To.

I've listened to this before and it just doesn't leave a strong impression then or now

Lyrics about solitude/travel/aging can stand alone as poetry. Her tuned down guitar and Jaco's bass sound so soulful and reflective of one another. It ends on one of her signature deep introspections that pans out to the world. Even though her chords and lyrics are a mix emotional, her passion for life and beauty is ever present and leaves the listener with a wholly earned sense of contentment.

Not as memorable or catchy as his best.

So much more ingenious and interesting than their contemporaries. Playing and arrangements are tight and exhilarating.

Just beautiful. It does sound a little of its time in terms of production sometimes but it's charming. Really, really good beats too.

Pretty fun and funny, the jokes and sentiments (e.g. "I'll be glad when you're dead") are surprisingly timeless and relevant.

Such a strong, singular voice, so exciting and invigorating. Reminds me of a quote whose source I can't remember that "when someone doesn't sound like anyone else, it's because that's who they really are."

Grade A shoegazing. I wish I was skinny is especially poignant and feels so of its time in a great way.

Hippie nonsense

Pretty fun arrangements, a lot of the non-singles have really interesting arrangements/production. I just find his plaintive voice annoying.

Sometimes this list baffles me. Nothing about this album feels noteworthy. Is it influential? Idk, maybe; it does sound like a precursor to a lot of vapid, soulless pop that has come out in the past two decades.

If I thought I was sick of regular Pink Floyd....

One of the most special live performances I've ever heard. His personality shines through in every song and segueway too.

His juvenile ramblings sound even less profound with that undeserved church choir backing him. "Love the one you're with" is a terrible mantra.

I really try to separate her atrocious, seemingly willfully abrasive voice from the music but I just cannot. Pure torture

Big me is such a timepiece

Eh, not special and pretty repetitive and formulaic.

The most sincere confessional pop album. Beautiful and I believe every word and emotion fully.

Really loved the first half, especially Mr. Wendel but the quality dropped off a bit the latter half. I like how offbeat some of the topics were, like when he just starts rapping about his insecurities as a short guy.

Fun for a song or two but pretty repetitive

I've heard the hits from this in (shitty) period movies so many times that I had a knee jerk reaction to do just a quick skim and a low rating because I have a negative association with their sound/voice. But I gave it a fair chance and was shocked that their kind of bluesy and play really tight.

I don't really get a firm sense of a persona or concept like I do from his other albums.

Such an experience, makes one feel like they're young and gay and cool in 70s NY.

Repetitive, basic and maudlin.

Really insightful and dense with content. An hour long album can be difficult to stay interesting but the musical and lyrical variety makes this fun and moving the whole way through.

Perhaps this is grading on a scale because I can't help but compare to her other work that includes 3 utter masterpieces. It's still a great album with some pure, original beauty, especially the first and last track.

Only enjoyable version of Hallelujah

Not just disturbing but invasively so. I could not get echos of "Constantinople" out of my head for hours no matter how desperately I wanted to.

Honestly not sure if this meant to be a sincere interpretation or more tongue in cheek, but it's so well done and unique that it holds up regardless.

Social commentary feels a but forced and blunted.
