I hear more of a Phil Anselmo trying to be quiet a library then a Mark E Smith (referring to the Spotify description.)
Very 90s, grungy post-hardcore
Rockets are Red has some cool riff
Let me come back is pretty engaging. Bass sounds awesome
Some fugazi esque guitar in learned it
Reminds me a little of bands like KING 810 and Nu Metal stuff, but more subdued and a bit less cringy for sure.
Bullet Proof Cupid is the most played song on their spotify, the chorus is very effective, the constant distortion engulfing the track is quite nice. I don't love it but it's goood. This one and Let me come back I like the most as of now
Hu uh
7 seas sounds very cool by moment and relaxed, the chorus is wacky tho not sure I like it
Was worried it was gonna be too grunge but it's not bad, the production is nice
I thought they were americans
Blondie, but a bit more punk rock
Like the instrumental the best up to that point, but would have prefered it if they built into pop songs proper
Starting with the wait the material is a lot stronger, Kid's a good pop tune
Gets less punk rock as the record goes on, but its also the stronger stuff
Not sure about the disco type back vocals
Yeah Brass in Pocket is good, the bass is really driving it
I enjoyed some of the poppier moments on this
Ooh, I actually never heard this
The album's an hour long and all of the most famous songs are the very begining, oh well
Is funeral for a friend inspired by wendy carlos version of funeral for queen mary? Clockwork was 71, so maybe? Really cool intro!
Guitar part aswell is fucking great (8 minutes in), just a great fucking song isn't?
The falseto part in the final chorus (pre chorus) of Bennie and the jets is so satisfaying. Wow.
At least, I had heard the title track before, obviously it's fucking good
Grey seal, the bass and the piano following each other is so tasty, good song!
Elton what is this
I've seen that movie too is really catchy
I kinda hated dirty little girl, but then the ending rocks a lot, goddamn you got me
Ok thiis one's the worst haha (13)
I dislike saturday
Just looking at my notes it's clear that the record starts really strong for me then it fizzles out. The closer is pretty decent tho.
I don't know if want to listen to this again haha I've heard it before I think it's overated, Under the Bridge is really really good tho, it might be their best song. The great Andy Gill produced this one, I really tried to like it you know, but it just sounds a bit grating to me.
I'll give 2/5 but I can't give half star
Wondeful moments in yours is no disgrace, the bass sounds crisp, so good.
Once again the vocals are just not my thing and the melodies are not that great I think.
I like close to the edge and fragile, haven't like their other stuff.
With all that said, nice vocal work in I've seen all good people, the rythm of it is cool.
Not my thing, but it's alright compare to some other more generic 70s prog rock I suppose.
I went back and gave this one a new listen earlier this year or maybe last year, there's good stuff on it and it was definitely influencial for better or for worse.
I think they're a slightly overated band, even tho I love some of their songs, this is probably a 3 1/2 for me if I had to give it a rating, which I do.
I'll round it up to a 3 star because I'm a bitch
Best tracks: Neighborhood #1 & 3, Wake Up
I'll try not to use "overated" for the next ones haha
Very pretty album
I like his voice, it somehow reminds me of some kinda or r&b or soul stuff in a way, a lot of color
Cameron Winters vocal delivery seems to be inspired by this alot on Geese stuff (which I love listening to in recent time)
I'll be back for this one for sure, Moondance is so fucking good
Fuck this haha
Homesick wasn't good but get free is such an annoying song right from the start, it's trash I can't believe it's supposedly one of their best, god!
Outtathaway might have been the best one. When the singer screams it gives it at least some kind of energy.
There's some classic british pop music influences in this. But every good idea they had came out sounding like dollar store the offspring or some shit. It sounds corny (not that the offspring dosent sound fucking corny haha.)
I'd get why someone would like this, it sounds like good songs by other band by moments. In the background it's probably fine, but a whole album is alot!
Mary jane is trash sounds like oasis
Aint no room was ok
This sounds like 90s the offspring but gone cock rock
Ocean Size I kinda liked... not so much the rest...
God this is annoying
My friend really likes Jane's and the song the Mountain song and that riff in particular, but I just do not like this, I'm sorry
Jane Says... it's like a stolen led zeppelin acoustic riff with terribly sung lyrics over it and awful production, the tipamni, steel drum thingy in this is so fucking bad. Like really ? Haha
Maybe I did not hear Ocean Size properly because I hate everything else on this album...
On spotify when the album was over it directly played the next one and the first song was called "stop!" and I thought to myself "yes please".
Just had Sgt. Peppers yesterday and then this one! I'm also already quite familiar with.
Tempted to give this a 5
Hoping to get some more Zappa, plenty of albums I haven't heard yet!
This might the best pure "guitar" album ever honestly
I've heard Screamadelica, really like the track "Loaded", but not much else.
The very begining of burning wheel is pretty cool.
Kowalski is very nice! Bassline cool! The hit-hats type sounds rapid fire is so great!
Baggie. Neo psychedealia.
Medication has a cool attitude to it, reminds me of a Rowland s Howard song somehow
It's alright
It's not my thing
I heard ready or not before it's a really famous song, it's catchy for sure
I know who Lauryn Hill is!
To be fair, rn, in the metro it's hard to make out anything really haha
I'll try to finish this later today
Okay Fu-Gee-La is really enjoyable
The more r&b influences the better!
It was good, but I'm not crazy about it
There's something very dated about it, and some songs I find annoying, but also I still hear r&b artits doing this sound!
When it works it really works!
I heard this one before, I love little red corvet, dmsr and lady cab driver
3 1/2 at least
Love this one it's 4 1/2 to 5 for me
Hope to get something new tomorrow haha
Cool, I like my boy Neil and never heard this one!
I generally like his acoustic stuff more, Round & Round is quite good
The instrumental breaks starting in down by the river are soo slick and awesome, great song
The vocal melody in the chorus of the losing end reminds me of a bowie song
4 1/2 might be my favorite funk album
Fav tracks:
Sympathy for the devil
Stray cat blues
Salt of the Earth
3 is a bit low I know, I'd need more time with it,
3 1/2
This is really boring
Country dancing stuff
The songs are acceptable, some good moments of like classic american folk stuff
Is this album really an hour long?
Stars go blue is like a bad coldplay song, I hate it
I get nothing from this
The rescue blues was ok I think
Harder now thst its over is an alright ballad
I skipped a lot of songs after Nobody Girl when they started to annoy me too much, like I get it, this is toooo long
Love the cover
There goes Norman is awesome
Power pop dead kennedys
Immediatly very good
Sooo smooooth
I met a little girl, fire
Dooooo you remembeeeer all of the PSUHINMEE!Yeah yeah
Woah the sax solo in is that enough
I might like this better than what's going on
Anna's song, I love the subtle keys in that song and in general on the record, it's great!
Poo pee poo pee doo
Yeah it's been a minute but I like this one better than what's going on, it's great, long but great!
** I wanna say, I've been listening to what's going on after finishing yesterday's album and... (the album's great) inner city blues is fucking amazing god!
... this means nothing to me
Fav: Hallowed be thy name
At first it was alright, also I was in the shower for most of it; an unecessary long shower, not paying close attention. Then any day now started playing and it was really good! So were some of following songs, suspicious mind and Kentucky rain I liked! I was thinking maybe maybe the whole album had been this good, but it's really the ending of this.
Yeah it might not be the most famous song from this but Any Day Now is my favorite. Love this one!
* love the way suspicious mind fades out then fades back in, it's like the opening of Dune
**also I don't know if I think Here, My Dear is as goood as What's Going On, it's a cool sci fi funk Odyssey, but there ARE some classics on WGO. Anyway it's definetly worth listening as much as What's Going On or Let's Get It On!
**I feel bad for rating Maiden that low but well...
****might have rated Hot Rats too high, it's higher than a 4 for sure, but do I like it as much as Entairtenment! Let's say? (No) Or the other album I did rate a 5? (Not really! But it's close)
*****Who care anyway...
I mean yeah, chain of fools and natural woman are fantastic obviously
Ain't no way is great, short n sweet!
Never liked the song born in the u.s.a.
This is really samey.
I love I'm on fire.
In No Surrender the cadence of the voice is really Dylan-esque to me.
I'm going down really picked up at the end uh?
Glory days is annoying me a little bit.
Well I don't know what to rate this.
Violet's great!
She walks on me is pretty energetic
Its good!
Not much to say about it, I like the vibe of it for sure
This is somewhat of a low rating, I know... there are some amazing songs on this, I love Things Done Changed and Ready to Die, but I'd be lying if I said that this wasn't a bit long for me. I think I just get tired of this kinda thing quickly, it has too be a fucking weird rap record for me to really be into it I think. Great vibes tho, I'll be jamming some songs off of this for sure.
Enjoying the groovy instrumental
Bluesy new wave
Witches song I didn't like, but broken englisjsh and guilt are pretty cool
This falls a bit short somehow, not that it isn't good, but you know, something is missing to make the good great! We're talking best of all time on this list!
Like a really think the idea of John Lennon cover is awesome but it's missing just a little something.
Yeah I totally love Why'd ya do it, it's quite vulgar but it's bitting, honest and it feels deserved. Like fuck yeah, I understand why this is here then, this is cool!
The 5 is because I saw that other people rated this unbelievably low, they should have included Skeleton Tree instead, it's less epic and ambitious I suppose but it's such a tight record, it's my favorite from the trilogy, not that normies would have liked it better haha
On the beach is my favourite Neil Young song I think, I might listen to this again today but if not it's still going to be a 4
Can't nobody love you is great!
It's hard to really judge an oldy rock n roll record for me, on a first listen and all, but it's quite good!
This is fine
the guitar on messy bessie is fucking awesome, starting at around 4min it got me
They got me...
I liked the second half
I heard Smiley Smile before, but I'ver never heard this version of it.
Oh...
This is an hour? Shit.
Stock it to me, they don't wanna fuck with me, I'm talkin'; there was a couple standout but I also wasn't paying close attention, doing shopping and stuff.
Not my style, but this was an easier listen than I would have thought !
This is fun
Easy
Neo psychedelia
A little of blur maybe
Some weird fun guitar effect in out-side
Some boring songs, the last one wasn't too memorable
This was okay
I think I'ver never heard this one the whole way throught. I love Dirty Diana (underated song) and Smooth Criminal (yeah obviously) already and I thought that besides those ones (and Bad) I wouldn't be engaged by the record, but I'm about halfway through and every song is pretty good. This might be more enjoyable than Thriller AS AN ALBUM if I'm being honest.
The Little Girl song isn't my favorite
Isn't that the day tripper riff? I mean it's the same year, so whatever...
They like doing solos that's for sure
I'm by no means a blues rock expert, but seems to be pretty early on the timeline of like what this sound sounds like, so even tho I hear, let's say some Hendrix from time to time, it's not really liked they ripped him off or anything!
With that said, with all the talent contained within these recordings, I can't really say that I'm enjoying the songs all that much.
This is just okay to me, let's give 3
Okay okay okay this is good right off the bat!
Yeah, this is tight, better than the last Beach record I had easily!
Fav tracks: Don't Go Near the Water
Long Promised Road
Disney Girls (1957)
Surf's Up
Wow, this was great!
The rythm section sounds so goood on this!
Loved it!
Reminds me of Neil Young. Liked the first track
A bit too country for me, the songs are well put together tho.
The Jesus Song was super lame.
Don't look at my Shadow has a super catchy chorus, the bluegrass guitar solos are pretty cool, liked this one.
It doesn't matter is also quite good (might be my favorite one.)
The first part of the record was hard to get through, nothing really bad, but not the most interesting material if you pay close attention to it.
Don't remember much about the second part!
It's ok
I've seen them live a couple years ago, with The National. Wasn't too familiar with them, I did listen to their stuff, might have listen to this album, might haven only listen to the hits, I don't remember, then I've seen them live, and never listened to them again.
But this is good, I'm enjoying it, driving drum beats that makes you wanna shake your head, with a lot of atmosphere in the production, quite dreamy; Arcade Fire meet Arcade Fire... sounds like Arcade Fire really, with a country rock vibe, I've got Neil Young on my mind maybe, but the vocal melodies make me think of him in particular.
Fav Track: Under the Pressure
Well thanks for my job, I'm doing a 12 hours shift today, I'm editing so this can play in the background while I work, and wait for more work and wait so I can go home and not work.
I'm saying this because, looking at the 59 songs making this record and looking at the running time, this is probably about 2h30!
**it's more than 3hours actually
It's very appropriate for a december 23rd. There's something Chrismasty about this.
Let's Call The Whole Thing Off is charming, reminds me of the Nina Simone song love me or leave me (I think that's the one I'm thinking off(a much better
Well it's about 5pm now, I haven't finished the first "CD" yet. Busier than I thought, but I'm at work until 1am, who knows if I can finish this today haha
It's 8:51 and I'm in the middle of disc 5
9:35 I've made it!
This was a pretty good soundtrack to the night, it's obvioulsy not meant to be absorb in the same way as you would any album. You'd have this on during a dinner with friends and, you know, the lenght wouldn't matter.
Fav (I think??):
But not for me
Let's call the whole thing off
just another rhumba
The man I love
Somebody from somewhere
Fav: Christmas by Darlene
Good compilation!
Fav: 5/4
Tomorrow comes today
