Seven nation army is phenomenal. The rest is not my jam. Sort of nostalgic tho. Too slow for me, a bit depressing.

Seems like they ripped from Greta van fleet who ripped from Led Zeppelin (maybe not in that order). Derivative at the end of the day.

Sem tempo pra desenvolver, mas não sou muito fã de The White Stripes. A minha nota real seria um 2.5, mas prefiro arredondar pra baixo, levando em conta o quão superestimada essa banda é. Melhor do álbum: "You've Got Her In Your Pocket". Pior do álbum: "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself".

I gave this album two chances which I think is generous. I tried to like jack white music but this concludes that i simply can’t.

This album was fine, not something I feel like I will really get into just because it felt fairly straightforward but didn't really grab me. I'm giving it 2 stars just because I feel like there is a chance that it could grow on me, but it still felt pretty average.

Ball and Biscuit is the highlight for me but most of the album just tends to feel incredibly "same-y" with no real creative touch

I like it, but then too much overdrive with the guitar. Some good rock n' roll and blues at times, but something was annoying me about it overall. 2.5/5

Dum dumdum dum dum dummm dum. Some good riffs and lots of nice guitar sounds, but it's really just a microwaved and kind of boring version of English blues guys from 1967 who just learned about Muddy Waters & John Lee Hooker and got to be the first ones to rip them off while using really loud amps with fuzz pedals. The slower, acoustic stuff on here is really awful - when your voice is this thin and weedy don't put it front and center. This is surely fun music to make, but it isn't that fun to listen to.

I thought this was an ok album. In the cold cold night was my favourite song on this album, I thought the simple bright guitar was nice and the low hum of the bass with the pretty vocals worked well together. Honestly tho it was a somewhat dull album in some parts perhaps due to it not being a genre I frequently listen to. I would definitely Listen to some songs on the album again but not the album itself.

Never got The White Stripes. Always felt like the emperor’s new clothes, loads of people celebrating them, but as far as I could see there really wasn’t much underneath.

I've never been the biggest fan of the white stripes even when they first came out they weren't my cuppa tea. It's been a good chunk of time and my taste in music has changed and I'm more willing to try new stuff but theyw really aren't for me.

I've listened to this album before, probably only once or twice though. It's a great album if you're into early 00s indie. "Seven Nation Army" will probably get played on rock radio forever and it certainly helped cement the legacy of The White Stripes and their influence on this era of rock & roll. But... it's starting to get a little same-y, right? Like how do you listen to "There's No Home For You Here" without singing "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" (from White Blood Cells)? That's so early in the album that it's discounts my opinion of the rest of the songs. I do appreciate that we hear Meg singing a little bit; I'm not sure if that's new for this album but it's a welcome change of pace. More hits than White Blood Cells, but idk if it’s actually better so it’s getting the same score.

When this came out 20 years, I liked "Seven Nation Army" and "the Hardest Button to Button". Revisiting this again today, I have the same thoughts. Besides those tracks, the album is not for me.

I really don't get the hype for this album, I find the music to be kind of boring, and Jack White's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

This is not in the same calibre as the first three albums despite having 3-4 good songs

I really want to like this more than I do. If you want to strip down a band to basically a guitarist and a drummer then surely the instrumentation has to be on point.... Meg as a drummer is just awful. No amount of cranking up the gain on your guitar will cover it.

Seven Nation Army is an all timer but tbh I was underwhelmed by the rest of it, instrumentals were mid and White's voice wasn't doing it for me... weird because I like quite a few Raconteurs songs.

Nicht durchgehört. Irgendwie schon interessant, Sachen die ich als Indie, Grunge aber auch Rock bezeichnen würde. Hin und wieder sogar nen kleiner Queen Vibe. Aber letztendlich irgendwie sehr anstrengend. Kann auch einfach nicht in meine aktuelle Stimmung passen, ich verstehe die Faszination. Aber nichts für mich.

Seven Nation Army is a classic No Doubt but the rest this album didn’t impress me at all

Jack White might be a guitar virtuoso, but holy shit, I can't finish this album. It's so boring. Jack White has always been pretty hit and miss with me, but apart from the familiar song or two from this album, it sounds like a bunch of album filler. It's not that this record is out and out bad, per se, it's that I can't keep myself engaged enough to finish it. Every song feels like background noise. Admittedly, I've always been annoyed by Meg White's drumming, but I don't think this explains why I find just about every song so grating. I like some of Jack White's solo stuff, and he really is a fantastic player, but after listening to most of this record, I still don't understand how this band has garnered the popularity and success they've achieved. This, one of their most critically acclaimed records, is a hard listen for me.

I've listened to this one before! In fact, 7 nation army was the first song I ever played on an open mic night. But hardest button to button is my favorite track. Was the album ground breaking? Not especially, does it flow well? Not particularly, is it alright? Yeah it's solidly alright.

2nd White Stripes album in this list. This one is more entertaining. I really like some songs that kick the blues into new sound such as "Black math" or "Ball and biscuit"...at first...but then I find it tiring...

I mean, it ain't my cup of tea. But the song with the dialogue in the beginning slapped. Also seven nation army slay.

Never could dig this band

The rhythmic changes are very exciting. Solid work with dynamics. But would it kill him to add a third chord every once in a while? Not to mention a bridge every now and then? I mean, lotsa people can play a blues riff. But when there’s no soul behind it, everything just sounds the same after a while.

I am sick and tired of hearing Seven Nation Army. Yes, a cool song, but too overplayed. The rest of the songs bored me a lot.

Pretty underwhelming

Not the worst album I heard so far here. But I don't enjoy this kind of commercial "indie sounding" crap. And Seven Nations Army is still over played af. Still trying to get through it. Maybe it will grow for me. Don't know.

Bar seven nation army, not many memorable songs 2/5

Surprisingly, this album includes one or two songs that are not abusively loud. Unsurprisingly, those songs are ruined by Jack White's nails-on-a-blackboard voice.

- Just not very good. It's mostly a pastiche of blooze rock and not bringing much new to the table. The writing is atrocious for the most part; so very boring/unimaginative. Jack White sounds like he sometimes has ideas but they never really go anywhere. He's also made a great career out some of the shittiest guitar tone ever put down. I was going to give it a 2.5 rounded up to 3 but I'm rounding down because of the song "Little Acorns" .... -

Surprisingly not good, Seven Nation Army carries

They just aren't my thing. Instrumentals can be decent but the vocals aren't it for me.

I'm not a white stripes guy (and perhaps never will be), but at least I can say I gave them a chance. I think the songwriting is somewhat creative, but the songs themselves are extremely middle-of-the-road rock. The singles have proven to be pretty good, and I think the energy on No Faith in Medicine would've sold me on the album if all the riffs sounded more like that, but I feel as though Elephant is mostly boring and bland. I feel a little like a stick in the mud because its seemingly well-received by many people, so maybe I need to relax a little.

Ah, Jack White. Took the world by storm. I was caught in the downpour myself, but came to my senses pretty quickly and found some cover. Now I look at this album, and the rest of his work, as whiny, self-indulgent, and seriously overrated, a common occurrence during the last gasps of the rock era.

Echoes of Jimi Hendrix aswell as the blues of The Rolling Stones I thought at times throughout the album but maybe that's just me. Not sure what thought overall. Not bad, not great.

A couple interesting things in here but this is mostly boring and annoying to me.

Good rock and roll but boring.

Noisy and intimate, mostly simplistic musical arrangements. The outbursts of the guitar solos really make the record come to life. They feel very focused on call and response melody and rhythm lines. I don’t like how Jacks voice is often mixed very boxy with unpleasant frequencies. What I do like is the signature bass sound, bass heavy but still griddy.

Because I love the first track I thought I'd love this album but the rest was a bit shite. The algorithm playing other songs from the period provided much better tunes.

I only knew this band for the first song of the album, Seven Nation Army. It has a feeling of new rock. It balances very well it's energy, but sometimes I feel like it lacks intensity. Then you get In The Cold Cold Night, and WTF was that? Does that song belongs to this album? Same thing for I Want To Be The Boy To Warm Your Mother's Head (They could've used a shorter title). Then other two unbearable songs followed by The Hardes Button To Button which is useful when you want to walk and feel cool but that does not make sense when hearing the lyrics. The beggining of Lttle Accorns was cool but once the melody started the motivational message did not mix well with the music. They are very creative and the lyrics change a lot, but this is not for me. One has stuck with me so far, It's True That We Love One Another, that one felt real. Lol, the first and the last one were my favorites

Even though "Seven Nation Army" is a done-to-death song, it still somehow is a track that is *very* hard to get sick of. The rest of the album unfortunately stands in it's shadow, but the rest is fine. Not much that stood out, but nothing bad either

Heard before: some First off, this sounds GREAT. The guitars are 1,000 feet tall, and the drums are just about as deep. But it leaves me struggling with my Jack White conundrum. I just don't connect with his scuzzy faux-bluesman persona at all. Tough to explain; I like Jon Spencer, Nick Cave, Tom Waits - any number of modern arch-blues dudes - but there's something about Jack. By the time I get to the pretty good guitar solo on the 13th track, I can barely pay attention. But man, the guitars on Ball and Biscuit sound so good. Shame the song is so dull. Fine. Sometimes I felt like it could be timeless and then other times I felt very much it was from the early 2000s and sounded very similar to Weezer and Cake.

Listened to 3/4s of it to be honest but was surprisingly disappointed after Seven Nation Army

'Seven Nation Army' and 13 others. White Stripes lack of bass always annoyed me, amusing that their biggest hit has a a fake bass on it. Bass is best, why doesn't everyone know this yet?

Most of this is that sleepy almost formless rock that ends up being mostly a let down. 7 Nation army is the stand out on the album.

Ohhh Jeremy Corbyn. repeat to fade. I don't know what it is about the White Stripes, they're plainly quite good, but even at the time when I liked them, I never loved them, and I've never felt the desire to stick any of their records on in the intervening 20 years or so, even the couple I bought. Also, the big songs here were absolutely played to buggery everywhere, and the rest is kind of meh blues rock noodlings. I drifted in and out listening to this again now, mostly bored. Started as a 3, managed to work its way down to a 2. I'm noticing a theme in this project, maybe its the blues rock that doesn't do it for me. I like the blues. Shit, the cover version here just killed Burt Bacharach. Confirmed 2.

Might be residual gripes from when it was everywhere and overhyped, but I still have a hard time listening to this.

I like the production of the album. Most of the songs have a good hook, but I don't like the singing on most of the songs. The cover version of I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself is an abomination. Favorite song: Seven Nation Army.

Overrated

On first listen, kind of annoyed me a bit and wasn't really the vibe at the time, but I stuck it on the day after and didn't mind it. You really do have to be in the mood. I can appreciate why the album is raved about, it's a really cohesive set of songs, no track really feeling like filler, with punchy stripped back rock/blues production. However, it does begin to feel a bit samey after a while and I was looking forward to the album finishing at about the 40min mark. Aside from the famous tracks, I really liked The Air Near My Fingers. I would probably listen to this album again, but would need to be in the mood. I do however think it deserves a place in the 1001, mostly due to the quality of the album, but it isn't really for me. All in all, not a bad album, but relative to the other albums in the 1001, not a particularly high scorer.

Too moody for me

Nope. Hey - like what you want obviously - but this whole idea that "back to basics / simple and primitive / low-fi / raw" is some sort of ROCK PURITY that counters and surpasses anything else that has more art, thought, creativity, melody, and <gasp> a goddamn bass line is utter shit and insulting. I hate this. ...ok....upon a bit more subjective reflection and listening...am boosting to 2 stars. Having been subjected to the grating banality of Seven Nation Army for years I was ready to give this 0 stars if possible but there's actually more melody in here than I'd thought or expected. e.g. "I Want To Be The Boy..." and "You've Got Her In Your Pocket" were pretty nice - I'd really like to have heard these with a full (better?) band. But overall the lack of bass gives the entire production a hollowness that's impossible to listen to; the drumming is terribly pedestrian and sloppy, and the low-fi aesthetic is something I would be surprised I'd ever rate higher than a 2. So...yay I guess for Jack White's talent - and/but I like the Ranconteurs infinitely more than this band... 3/10 2 stars.

Bit of a nostalgia trip in this one. This is one of those albums that does what it does very well. Feels like a dumbed-down Cramps / Pussy Galore / Hasil Adkins, but Jack White clearly managed to capture the zeitgeist of the time with these tunes. As Seven Nation Army’s ubiquity attests. Another on I drifted off from after a few tracks, but catchy in places.

Best Song: Hypnotize. A song that leans forward the whole way. Worst Song: You've Got Her in Your Pocket. No one is here for attempts at a ballad. Really disrupts the punchy, staccato flow. Overall: Not as good as I expected/remembered. For such a raw production style, I expected more passion and intensity in the lyrics and the pacing.

I don't know if the White Stripes' 2001 album White Blood Cells is on the list, but it should be because it's infinitely better than Elephant. This album is ok, there are some good songs on it, but too much it just dissolves into blues jams (which tbh, seems to be a hallmark of the 1001 albums list...). I also want to add, when "Seven Nation Army" was released every review noted that the iconic bass line was not played on a bass, rather Jack White revved up his guitar. Also, I was in a convenience store in Manchester in 2003 and an Australian couple got into an argument when the guy refused to buy the CD for the girl and he wouldn't agree that "I Want to Be the Boy to Warm Your Mother's Heart" was an adorable song title.

Not impressed with the album

Very different group….

Oh right, these guys have more songs than Seven Nation Army. I actually liked this one back when it came out and I was 12 or 13. Now I can't really say the same anymore. It's very noisy and dissonant and really just not all that interesting. I do still like Seven Nation Army and I Want To Be The Boy To Warm Your Mother's Heart was a nice one too and Hypnotize was decent too. But in general I found myself hoping this album would end a lot sooner.

Secondo me, Jack White, hai delle idee anche molto fighe, ma non vengono valorizzate dal contesto alternativo che hai voluto costruire coinvolgendo tua sorella. Poi probabilmente avrai voluto far colpo su un altro tipo di pubblico.. Musicalmente però non me la sento di premiarti. Se vinciamo pure i mondiali però: "Poppoopoppopooo!"

Not a top 1000 in my ears

just flat out boring, i wanted to fall asleep since track 4. Not the energy i was expecting by starting with seven nation army. First few tracks did not do it for me, just not my vibe. Towards the last part of the album i started to get a little into it but still just not a fan of the white stripes.

Meh. Nothing offensive here, with a couple of fun tracks. The overall production is surprisingly good for garage rock. I particularly like "In the Cold, Cold Night". The intro to "Little Acorns" is hilarious - I had to look to see if I had accidentally opened a video that was playing in a different browser window. I mostly don't like Jack's voice and the thrashing guitars and hyper-aggressive drums get old after a few tracks. I wouldn't necessarily skip any tracks that popped up and might even like them better in isolation, but whole album of one after another was too much and I wouldn't buy this album for my collection.

This was the album where I started to feel like this White Stripes thing was kind of a one-trick pony. Or at least it was like they covered a corner of the music world that was too specific for me? And so three albums in I was like "Yeah, this is about as much as I need of this." Some good songs on here, to be sure. But the charm started wearing off here for me.

Damals wie heute lässt mich das ganze Konzept kalt. Damals, weil lieber im Postrock versunken, heut irgendwie drauf gefreut und dann doch recht ausgeblichen vorgefunden. Das Genie Jack Whites erkenne ich leider nicht, aber vielleicht ist er einfach der guitarists‘ guitarist. Beginn krachgeil, Abschluss charmant-quirky. Dazwischen ist mehr Material als erwartet, aber haften bleibt nicht viel. Es ist referenziell, ausgebufft, smart und straight durch den Rock‘n‘Roll Garten gepflügt, aromatisch aber wie Holland Tomaten. Durchwachsene 2.2

Zum Kartons und Möbel auspacken nicht geeignet. Klingt weder nach der Rettung des Rocks für mich, noch ist/war Meg White die neue Maureen Tucker. Kurz: hat mich nicht überzeugt.

I don’t know - maybe I just wasn’t in the mood, but holy crap this record felt like it was about six hours long. I had the band’s album that came out before this one and remember liking it quite a bit at the time. Now I’m wondering if that will still be the case or if we all got collectively seduced by their entire aesthetic in the early 2000s, and were way too forgiving of the actual songs themselves? Because with all that hype in the rear view there’s not much on here that’s doing anything for me in 2021. I’ll just listen to “We’re Going to Be Friends.” If Jack White ever makes a record that’s just variations on that one song, I’ll be on it like white on stripes. Until then…

One boring album this. Seven nation army is too played out and was never that interesting to start off with. Jack whites voice is sub smashing pumpkins and thats hardly a brag. Just a real grind to listen to from beginning to end. Avoid

I did like 2 songs but the rests were silly or just noise.

This wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" Can't forgive them for butchering that.

Except for seven nation army non of the songs catch me or even seem very good. The style of the album just isn't something I enjoyed.

The White Stripes are kind of an anomaly to me. Apparently they're an acclaimed act and apparently this is one of the best albums of the 2000s, yet I never run into anyone who claims to be a huge fan of the band, and I've never been recommended any of their music. I'll chalk it up to them simply being outside my sphere of interest. Pretty unremarkable stuff all around, but it's at the very least listenable. The gimmicky nature of the band makes for some pretty banging music videos, at the very least. Update: I somehow appreciate this much less on my second listen than I did on my first lol

Maybe the most boring band in all rock music. I absolutely cannot stand them. Just an awful awful band.

This one was not for me. I'm definitely not a fan of Jack's vocals. The lyrics, I don't care for.

simply put, i did not enjoy listening to this album at all.

Hard to set aside the edgy beginner guitar lesson associations and hear in its context. Ultimately, beyond some pretty catchy guitar on the big hits it’s not a brilliant listen. Appreciate its simplicity and do think White’s character is fun but ultimately didn’t really enjoy listening. Maybe in a different mood. Feel like the good tracks have enough in them to fill a car advert and the other tracks are just kind of odd.

This... isn't that great. Seven Nation Army is a good song, but the rest of the album is just.. more of it and not as good. This album is just kind of sonically annoying.

What a disappointment. -Black Math - this riff is fun I guess. -Where the heck did that changeup come from? Out of nowhere. -Alright now this riff is wearing down. -TNHFYH wants to be garage Queen so badly. What's with the spoken verses? At least it's different. Still not my jam. I don't mind a fade out, but that fadeout happened too fast. oh my god this album is fifty minutes long -IJDKWTDWM opens promising. I like this softer tone. Very good use of soft verse, heavy chorus. Yeah I like this song a lot more. The little doodle in the bridge is nice. But it ends out of nowhere. I'm noticing a pattern. -ITCCN - okay, a Meg song. Nice vocals. Rather simplistic song structure that I'm not a fan of. I can appreciate that the production chops are here on this album. -IWTBTBWWYMH ehhhhhhh. -YGHIYP I can do without every song starting with the title. I like the softer acoustics though. -Ball and Biscuit - more expectedness out of TWS. This is a nothing song for me. -Hypnotize is admittedly pretty catchy in its riffs. But god this album is just grating. WITTWLA - HOW IS THIS DAMN ALBUM STILL GOING. There aren't even that many songs. 14 isn't a lot esp for 2005. -One star. This was a miserable experience for the most part.

Otroligt ojämn ljudkvalitet, fruktansvärd separation. Dålig mixning. De snabbare låtarna låter lite som Wolfmother fast om de vore begränsade av undermålig musikaliska och teknisk förmåga. Hade inte varit med på listan utan Seven Nation Army, 100% lightning in a bottle, objektivt en brilliant låt. De lugnare låtarna har ett genuint bra utförande men lider extremt mycket av separationsproblemen. För ett album släppt 2003 så måste musikprodden ha varit ett gymnasiearbete av någons syskon. Kvinnans röst sticker ut med häftig dynamik. Akustiska gitarren låter rätt bra på "You've got her in your pocket" men tyvärr kombinerad med att sången är inspelat på ett Game Boy Color. Alla låtar hittills förutom första låter som "ROCK THE SONG (TM)", de mesta känna oinspererat och "lab-grown" för att spelas på radiostationen: "ROCK STATION". Känns som musik för amerikanska 16åringar som tycker plånbokskedjor är coola. Jag får någon känsla att texterna är skrivna helt frånskilt och separat från musiken och därför måste tvingas in i melodierna genom att höja och sänka sångtempot vilket bidrar till ett ryckigt och amatörmässigt intryck. Kommer inte ihåg en enda refräng utöver första. Har samma kulturella arv som 'frosted tips' va lite cool ett kort tag men är nu mest en meme. Wannabe punkverisionen av Wolfmother/The Hives med ljudkvalitet och mix lika skakig som mitt studieresultat årskurs 1.

Huh? Didn’t know what to expect. Don’t know what to say. Nothing I liked. Their story is interesting to read but wasn’t inspired by their work.
