Home Depot burger indie. Not my fav genre, but good for that genre 👍
I just don't know. Everybody says this guy is a genius. I must be getting old.
it felt derivative
Pretty fun album actually! Not completely my style but had enough different types of songs for me to enjoy.
"Seven Nation Army" is quite a banger.
3.5
Not much to say... Overall a good album.
Some cool guitar and effects but ive never been able to get into them. Weird and not in an awesome way. Saw them live in the fall of 02 and they were very forgettable :/
This is just the type of music I'm usually in to - but I just can't get into this Wasn't terrible, just a bit meh 3 ⭐️
rock. kinda whiney. one or two good songs out of the album
7/10 Highlights 7NA (banger) In the Cold Cold Night
I like this album, is it a classic - can’t say but some really good banging tunes on it
Great album
More Jack White. Unbelievable. This 1001 generator guy loves him some Jack white. With that being said, this is the best one yet. Much better beats and rhythm. Lyrics, wow, dude is weird. The acorn one I could not decide if I should be inspired or just weirded out. Anyway, good enough for a 3.
Besides the opening track, nothing really stands out. Just feels like more of the same from The White Stripes.
I wasn't a huge fan of this album (though the live album that came after this one on the deluxe set was killer).
3.35 per track.
Going in the only songs I thought I knew were 7 nation army and I just don’t know what to do with myself, but I was surprised to discover upon listening that I’d actually heard most of these songs at some point or another. Also, the title of this album definitely fits the energy of the music which is cool.
A lot heavier than I thought. Some of Jack White’s guitar tones on here are so dirty. Venturing into noise/shoegaze level dare I say. I was also impressed with the range of styles on here. I would assume a power duo would be rather limited sonically. There’s some surf rock, blues, and metal influences. That being said, I wasn’t a fan of the overall songwriting. Some songs were weak. And Seven Nation Army is so overplayed I just can’t enjoy it.
Bopped my head along to this, but probably not something I’d go back to.
I've never really understood the mass appeal of this band... Jack white is clearly a decent musician but meg can't drum for toffee and whilst some people think it gives the music character, I just think it sounds pish. The album itself is decent enough, the middle section really drags for me with the slower numbers and the long blues jam.
Enjoyable overall, but not super memorable outside the singles.
Ok
First time listening. Really good stuff here.
Fantastic
The hit - "Seven Nation Army" - doesn't sound like much else on the rest of the record. Everything was a good listen, I just don't have a deep connection to this band like I do other music.
Like I said one of the greatest intros of any album ever. This song has become more than itself. The battlefield 1 trailer with this song hit so well man. Anything after that just does not have the same punch and listen I listened to alot of Jack White in 2018 when he put out his solo album but I think that this album really fails to capture me UNTIL in the cold cold night and then we are just okay for a bit UNTIL Little Acorns to the end. I love the ending. I think the breaking the 4th wall for the last song is so funny and I think it is a beautiful piece. There are good beats and instrumentation here but I was not blown away. 6/10
iconic, sure. but i think its just so-so. 3/5
I enjoyed it but it didn't really grab me.
The reach of The White Stripes imagination finally match their grasp on their fourth album Elephant. Gone were the incomplete song fragments that littered the previous three albums. Meg White's singing on "In The Cold, Cold Night" makes me wish that she were the lead vocalist on all of The White Stripes tracks instead of Jack. But, at the end of the day, after "Seven Nation Army", it is just your typical The White Stripes album. Anyone know why there is nearly an extra minute of silence after the conclusion of the final track "It's True That We Love One Another"? I expected a hidden track, but nada.
It was ok.
Probably no denying Seven Nation Army has to be the rock anthem of the 21st Century with potentially nothing else coming close. But I don't find the rest of this album to be nearly as appealing. There's some tracks here and there that I enjoyed, but maybe I was hoping for more raw rock sounds than this record delivered. Not necessarily a bad thing but also not as much for me.
Conocida Seven Nation Army.
Let me start by saying Seven Nation Army is by no means a bad song, but is so wildly overplayed that I was not looking forward to this album. Color me surprised it's very unique. I had no idea how bluesy The White Stripes are, and there are so many better songs that 7NA on this album. Top tracks: In the Cold Cold Night, Ball and Buscuit, Little Acorns
I mean, I love 7 Nation army if only because of the fact that it's one of the 5 five songs I ever learned on guitar, so points there.
I've honestly never been a huge fan of The White Stripes. I mean, they're alright, but they're just not for me.
not their best work with the exception of seven nation army. I swear after 20 years, that song still hypes me up every single time
Pretty decent garage rock album, but nothing I’m going to return to.
Some great songs, but I don't like the album composition. It starts out with Seven Nation Army (which is a forever banger that I will never not want to listen), then, when you're pumped up, the energy dips dramatically, and picks up again only in the second half of the album. Overall I would rate it mid, it's not mind-blowing.
Best of the White Stripes' takes on '60s garage rock, if only for Jack White's efforts to fill in the sound with bass lines on his old Kay guitar.
Enjoyed it
A few songs were too loud
Surprisingly interesting listen despite the redundant lyrics that typify this genre. 3/5
I already knew it was pretty good from my childhood
Jack and Meg at their best.
I liked this! Both the slower and faster numbers. A really good lo-fi feel throughout, good songwriting. Would listen to it again.
***
it has its moments, but i wish it was shorter and more focused
really nice
It was ok - we all know seven nation army
Not what I expected after Seven Nation Army but a fun album anyway!
Favourite Song: Seven Nation Army The album becomes a bit boring in the middle, but the start and end are great.
Pretty good
Seven Nation Army has long been a favorite and Hardest Button to Button is great as well. But the rest of the album just didn't catch me like some of the previous White Stripe or Jack White projects on this list. Still alright, just not infectiously enjoyable.
I appreciate some of the songcraft and the sonic inventiveness of the guitar tone, but there’s something about this music that I just can’t connect with. Is it the lack of bass? Jack White’s personality? The dumb simplicity of the riffs? The fact that it’s yet another White guy playing the blues? Whatever it is, I’ll never love the White Stripes the way so many people seem to.
I like Jack White, really like the first WS album, loved The Raconteurs first album, etc. but I think this album is full of average songs other than Seven Nation Army and Black Math. Some I don't even like very much. 3/5
Seven nation army is a classic, but was surprised it was the album opener. Much more varied than I expected, some quieter, calmer songs than I would have guessed given the opener. Not my go to rock but a good album
This was released when I was a kid and I was obsessed with the first song. I never had the opportunity to listen to the whole album until now. I liked it overall but it didnt blew my mind.
The Jack White brand is pretty fascinating. Gotta appreciate someone carving out something that feels even remotely unique. Also the fact that Seven Nation Army became the universal futbol anthem is still funny to me ^_^
Not my cup of tea
it was okay, not my style and Seven Nation Army is so overplayed
It’s ok. Not really my type of music
I get the hype but not my favorite
3.5 - this was a good album to listen to on a Saturday on the way to the dispensary. The song titles were silly and each song had its own fun vibe! “I’m in love with jack white like my little brother”
was hoping to be surprised by song that i hadn't heard on here before, but found the album to be mediocre overall.
I was prepared to hate this album. I have dismissed Jack White as all stylists, publicists, managers, mythmakers, and no substance but this album won me over. I never thought I would say this, but I might have to add this to The Collection. The sparse production allows the instruments to stand out and the vocals are more straightforward than the other stuff I am familiar with from J.W. Meg's vocals on "In The Cold, Cold Night," also stand out. I guess she has dropped out which is too bad because she seems to have chops and I appreciate her drum style. Ordinarily, I am the harshest of critics when it comes to white boy blues, but I have to admit "Ball and Biscuit" is a pretty good jam.
Conocida Seven Nation Army.
Nice !
rock iiiit
The one song is a classic, but the others are kinda forgettable imo. Also, his voice is a little grating.
mixed feeling some songs very cool also explored more rock which i was a fan of some songs were just annoying tho if i could i’d rate it 2.8/5
Pretty decent. Weirdness on some songs. Not a fan of the short intro things and "artistic" crap.
black math 🫶🏻
I want to call Seven Nation Army overplayed, and it is, but it's also just so good. The rest is good but nothing really stands out. The last song is actually pretty fun, I like calmer Jack White
This book can keep putting White Stripes and Jack White albums on this list, insisting that I have to hear this album before I die. Hearing the White Stripes again isn't going to make me suddenly like them. It's not bad music, but it is just not interesting to me. If someone put the White Stripes on at a party (that I don't attend because I'm old) then I would not be upset. I would probably mention I don't love the band, but would not find it offensive. At no point would I seek out this album or see out the White Stripes music.
Very weird album. Not musically, but consistency-wise. It starts real bad: Seven Nation Army is an awful, awful song besides the riff, which is admittedly really good. Next couple songs are pretty good, then after those it just becomes really mid and indistinguisable. I enjoyed it overall, but probs won't listen to this album nor the White Stripes again by choice.
Certainly an interesting piece. While some of this is pretty good, some songs seem like weird fits into this album and are just overall meh. Still an enjoyable listen, and of course Seven Nation Army's iconic melody has to be mentioned, but I wouldn't rate this higher than 3 on a scale of 5 with no half points.
Great listen, but definitely not something I'm adding into my library
I generally like this band but for whatever reason this record didn't really take for me. I like "Get Behind Me Satan" better.
3 for seven Nation army, but that's it...
Oujes
Only familiar with one song on album. Not on my radar previously.
Rockabilly modernism.
Buenos inicios
C'est bon mais ça m'allume pas tant que ça.
Some good songs, the rest are forgettable to me.
Of the White Stripes, this is my favorite album. Despite the dynamics and raw garage drive of the songs, they have developed a dynamic between songs. And that makes the album even more interesting. The riffs and the approach with the vocals are all much more to my liking here. I think they changed the comic and this one sounds more like Tom Morello than Papa Roach.
its ok kinda gets samey after a while
3 - I'm inconsistent at rating White Stripes. I'm guessing that their sound just hits different at different times? I actually had to slightly move down my ratings for their other albums on this list on Rate Your Music because I definitely rated them too high at the time compared to how I remember them. They feel like a group where I kinda have to revisit them again, perhaps in order, so I can actually get a concrete opinion on these albums. Anyway, the two hits I know are good, and everything else is perfectly fine, just not to hold my attention past my required listening.
Some great songs, I'd give it 3.5 stars if I could.
This album was just alright had a few good songs but think I’m good for awhile
There's a few good songs here, but some pretty weird stuff too. Maybe slightly above average for me? 3/5
It’s basically good. Just fine. I was never really swept up in all this. It felt like good songs but the most exciting tracks by White Stripes came an album earlier for me. The more polished they were, the more the good stuff got stripped away.
Cool raw songs
better than the last jack white album
good garage rock revival, but idk i was a little bored. just not in the right mood for it i guess
No surprises here. I’m familiar with the White Stripes’ biggest songs, and this collection sounds exactly what I thought a White Stripes album would sound like.
Kings of garage rock. Not my favourite genre, but admittedly great at what they do.
Some big songs but very forgettable tunes in-between them. Lacks the depth of other albums.
IT OK
Liked this considerably less than my first day, which I felt pretty spoiled by. Beautiful in its rawness, but it felt underwhelmingly simple compared to the dense esoteric art-pop of Kate Bush. Gave me the opportunity to really re-listen to In the Cold, Cold Night properly, which is a straight banger.
Duplicate
I enjoyed a couple of the songs 'Seven Nation Army', It's true that we love each other',
My first exposure to a full White Stripes album. A few good cuts, but overall I'm not really into it.
This album has some standouts but it’s not great. The middle where it’s slow is kinda bland and boring in my opinion.
3/5, have heard before, some solid songs.
Great opening but thin and one note
Seven Nation Army is such a great song and amazing kick off to this album. I love the amalgam of punk and roots/country influences. The middle of the album falls into the same sonic space, interrupted every once in a while by a quirky song that stands out. I’m still knocked out by the sudden British accent when Holly Golightly stops singing and starts talking on the last track. ***1/2
Fine
Some good songs, didn't get as into it as I thought I would
I feel like my understanding is tainted because of Seven Nation Army. Excited to listen to the rest. It’s solid. I wasn’t in love though? I just never got hooked. Loved “In The Cold, Cold Night.” I thought it was going to be a turning point in the album in terms of sound. Seven Nation Army was THE song for a reason. But I did find some appreciation in other songs. All in all, it didnt speak to me but very much can appreciate the music itself.
3.4/5. A garage rock essential, great album to start out with listening to White Stripes. I think there is better song writing to be had and there are better The White Stripes albums to be listened to.
Not too bad. 3/5
I used to think this album ruled but I just liked Seven Nation Army a lot. Even the other hits were a pass for me. Maybe I'm just not a Jack White fan, despite his unique delivery working really well sometimes but missing more often.
Fine. 3 stars because Seven Nation Army is a stone cold classic. The rest of the album is alright but it’s mostly just Jack rambling nonsense while Meg rides the shit out of that cymbal
OK.
Ok, not my style, a bit too ‘electric and loud’ sounding for me
A classic fav
Was okay.
Looking back, this is starting to sound dated. Once upon a time, the garage sound was new an innovative, today it sounds tinny and of poorer quality than it could have been. The historic value of the album still holds its value though. It sounds (mostly) unlike anything issued before. It is not an easy listen - you need to concentrate.
2/5
Man I loved this album growing up but I really don't think it's aged well. I used to love the catchy but simple composition and how the songs are both precise and loose at the same time. They sure had some cool styling too. Solid album but it's just not great.
3/5
Seven Nation Army is the best song on the album
And a half
Get Behind Me Satan was better.
It feels a bit rage-y for me. Like instrumentally, so impressive and I know the drumming ability is basically unmatched but it’s just one I have a hard time connecting with!
This album was a lot more mellow and soft than I was expecting based on the song I knew from it. I don't hate a lot of the instrumentals, they're obviously pretty good. I'm just not sure that I'm a fan of Jack White's vocals though. You've Got Her In Your Pocket felt like it could have been really beautiful, but the vocals were kinda whiny and recorded weirdly. I think the back half of the album was a little stronger, some songs near the end were really cohesive. Favorites: In The Cold, Cold Night, The Air Near My Fingers, Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine
The worst album closer I've ever heard. One of the worst songs I've ever heard. The first track is boring Middle is good. Low 3
A nostalgic 3 but this has aged badly.
If these bozos didn’t wear red trousers they’d still be playing in pubs in Detroit
It was fine. I felt like all of the songs had the same tone and it got monotonous after a while.
Nothing I hated Only 1 stand out track
Surprisingly classic, starts as 00’s rock then goes back in time
Fun, but a little too raw
Nice
Nice
A couple songs which stood out but overall too much filler
A mid album carried from 2 stars to 3 by one of the biggest songs ever released.
This album is just good fun. It's upbeat, energetic, gritty and doesn't take itself too seriously. Enjoyable but not mind blowing.
I've always loved the simplicity and tones of the White Stripes, especially the guitar tone on Ball and Biscuit which is incredible. There's a handful of songs that didn't click with me, however it's still great modern rock record with blues and garage rock influence and I'm always up for more of that in the world.
More meh than I thought it would be. Outside of the two songs I knew well I didn’t really connect with many of them.
Pleasantly surprised! Really enjoyed some of the deeper cuts, I can see why 7NA was the hit but solid effort
Known before: Yes Standouts: Black Math 5
Not the worst
i’m not as nervous going in cause i’ve listened to the white stripes before and know they have some bangers, but i haven’t listened in depth so let’s just see how it goes i guess. it was better than i expected for some and i might put 1 or 2 in my playlists, but i’m happy with just acknowledging that they’re good and probably never listening to the whole album again. They are good they’re just not my style so idk how to vote for that, but i think it’ll have to be a 3.
Upbeat rock with a few mellow songs, distinctively 80s with a couple of tracks that just screech in your ears… seven nation army is the most memorable
Oh I already know I like this one. I owned this one. Nice trip down memory lane.
first song is best, liked the visualizers, acorn and air between
Ok tier
Not as good as the other album
Some great hits on the album, it didn't quite break through for me though
always loved Ball and Biscuit, but the rest just doesn't do that much for me
Good for what it is. Not my jam tho
Hard rocking guitars with a streak of the blues mixed in. Some track are a little heavy for me, but overall enjoyable. High 3.
Seven Nation Army // Black Math // There’s No Home For You Here // The Hardest Button to Button //
Not quite as enjoyable as I remember, still good.
Not gonna lie but this is going to be on the list of albums that require a relisten. My brain unexpectedly turned off when I played this album. Not because I didn't listen to what was happening but because I feel like I didn't capture what was supposed to be captured. Yes, both of the Whites came through and provided a technically solid rock based experience..... but I feel like I missed something. People highly rever this album and Jack White (who I hope pops up somewhere on this list later) and here I am dumfounded as to why. It was good but I'm looking more for the reasoning behind the "classic" status. 3 out of 5 stars.
Niiiiiiice. 1st one Seven nation army classsssique.
Its okay, but not superb
I liked it okay, it was good. Favorite song: In the Cold, Cold Night (just because it’s so different and I like the guitar melody)
Not a fan, this is when the white stripes got bad. Lots of thumping, no soul. low effort song writing
I'm getting whiplash on the garage rock and the rock ballads
it has an absolutely iconic song! the album was good and interesting. i liked it and it has couple more songs i gonna revisit!
Pretty good album overall, but some of the B'sides are not fantastic.
Solid album. Starting out with seven nation army is hype.
Aside from the last track, a pretty rocking album. Not that I hate the last track, I feel torn about it as a closer because it doesn’t burn down the house but it does feel like the credits at the end of a low budget movie.
It's alright, too country-ish at times but that's the white stripes for you 3/5
better than the other white stripes album
More bangers, still some weird and overly-artsy tracks that I appreciate but don't particularly enjoy
Streit, lenge siden sist
Ok. Good music not great lyrics. All songs sound the same
-i know this album and this band -specifically because of seven nation army -i haven’t heard all the songs on this album tho, but i have heard a lot from these guys -UGH what a way to start an album this song is a CLASSIC (and also incredible) -this heavy guitar is just what makes the white stripes who they are. its amazing -i really like the guitar in ball and biscuit -some of these songs are misses for me but thats okay -it kinda sucks that i didn’t like this album as much as i was hoping
Starting feeling in a pub on a Tuesday night to be in a bar in the American country on a Friday night
Started out well, the rest melded together really
Overall, the album is perfectly fine. No huge standouts for me, but a few good tracks. Everything kind of sounded similar, aside from a couple softer acoustic tracks. They peaked with Seven Nation Army, and they sort of stayed in that same place musically. And I probably only like that song as much as I do because it’s so famous. 6/10 Top 3 tracks: 1. Seven Nation Army (obviously) 2. You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket 3. Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine
/ 7NA - we playin some football now /black math- good riff. Very cool middle section, sounds like carti. Badass song, had to run it back /there’s no home for you - dude is not having it with this broad, always appreciate a good quiet/loud song, the chorus gets old but the 3rd verse is hard /I just don’t know what to do with myself - sounds like a garage rock Beatles song. Picks up in the second half. Jack whites vocals is almost bowie like at times. These fellers know how to make a good chorus. /in the cold cold night - Meg white sounds good on it. Makes me feel like a detective that is on the verge of finding a clue and cracking the whole puzzle. /I wanna be the boy to warm mothers heart -Guitar solo was nice. Not my favorite /you’ve got her in your pocket - instrumentally might be my least fav so far but lyrically it might be the best so far. Dude thought he had her in the bag. Went from sounding manipulative and controlling but by the end I get what he means /ball and biscuit - these 2 cats know how to jam. Every time that distortion on the guitar hits. makes me wanna slick my hair back, wear a leather jacket, keep a toothpick in my mouth and lean against a gas pump. /the hardest button to button - ha celebrity deathmatch. Good buildup, I already know their gonna deliver a crazy break down. Meg is one of the best drummers in the game. Jack coulda came a little harder vocally but the music video makes up for it. /little acorns - intro scared me, thought I got an ad. Damn Janets life sucks, pretty good advice though. Vocals aren’t having the energy to match the guitar and drums. /hypnotize- sounds like sex bobomb. The guitar riff going into the last verse makes me feel like a surfer dude. /the air near my fingers- good transition. Cornball lyrics. Not my favorite /girl you have no faith in medicine - finally dude brings back some of the energy. Meg white tears the drums up as usual, she’s the mvp of this album. /it’s true we love one another - never liked this kinda sound. Idk who the goddamn holly is. I guess it’s cool how the song sounds like a conversation. Goddamn brits >instrumentally this album is perfect. Meg white gotta be top 3 drummers of the 2000s. Jack white has a good voice but it gets annoying on some songs, but he’s a dog on the guitar. The distortion on a lot of it gives it the perfect sound. Ending was a little weak. Fav: black math, I just don’t know what to do, you’ve got her in your pocket Least fav: it’s true we love eachother Overall : 77/100
Decent, but pretty sloppy. Not as hard rock as I thought. May have been better to experience when released. 3.0
Certi brani mi hanno stupito; preferito: Ball and Biscuit
Ok
20-30 minutes too long. 3.5 seven nation army, ball and biscuit
snaiags
I liked this more than the previous White Stripes album I got.
Fun to revisit but a little odd. Decent bluesy garage rock with strong pop sensibilities with Jack White channeling less Page and Plant and more Cobain and Corgan. Elephant has great production with a consistent set of songs but something about it feels fractured and a bit awkward in places. Perhaps there was increased tension between Jack and Meg due to their recent divorce or they were both wrestling with their increased fame and visibility without knowing too well how to navigate. Both may have factored in because the album seems unsure of itself and some lyrics and song titles come off a bit pointed. The album closer feels very odd with the inclusion of Holly Golightly, which I imagine was the point, but it probably would have ended things better if the song was a duet between Jack and Meg instead. And then the listener is teased with the possibility of a hidden track. Elephant is a fine album with some songs I really enjoy but I wouldn't find myself coming back to it very often.
Enjoyed it. Listened to this while on the train that had to stop earlier because of an accident on the tracks. + Seven Nation Army + Black Math + I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself + The Hardest Button To Button + Little Acorns (this was funny) + It's True That We Love One Another
Wát een opener zeg, tering. In the cold, cold night is nou echt een lief liedje. Sowieso is The White Stripes vrij minimalistisch qua muziek. FAVO: Seven nation army(duh) , in the cold cold night, You've got her in your pocket
felt like it blurred into one another besides the actual hits - Black Math was a banger tho
nebylo to uplne hrozny, kinda mid tho
More country than I expected
Not bad
i meant to give it another listen before rating, but oh well. i liked it a little bit more than talking heads, i think, but it still didn't resonate with me that much. seven nation army felt like it didn't mesh with the rest of the album (also i don't think it's an amazing song). i dunno
Their fourth studio album released in 2003. Hard blues rock with incredible crunchy guitar tones, punchy percussion and story telling that brings you to the scene. The main track standouts are Seven Nation Army (ofc) and In the Cold, Cold Night. I do love a lot of Jack Whites work but this album falls a little flat for me with a few too many tracks I could miss.
Creepy fucking people
Couple shining moments in this one. It's better than most rock from the early 2000's from a technical standpoint, but a lot of songs felt pretty repetitive and similar. Overall this probably warrants a re-listen just based on Jack White's ability.
Seven Nation Army Ball And Biscuit The Hardest Button to Button The Air Near My Fingers Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine It's True That We Love One Another (Jack & Meg with guest singer Holly Golightly) I Just Don't Know What to do With Myself is a remake of the Burt Bacharach / Dionne Warwick song 'Hypnotize' can't be played on Spotify!?
Not my usual music but I liked it
I'd happily never hear Seven Nation Army again. That aside, the album isn't half bad. A few particularly enjoyable tracks.
Nice
A modern classic
It’s a great start to an album. Maybe the best opening riff of them all? But can the rest of the album maintain that simplistic genius of those first 16 notes? No, not for me. I like the striped back, 8 track ethos but it’s a bit sparse for me. Didn’t really maintain my attention to the end.
A couple of decent tracks. A couple of easy skips. Given it's from 2003, it not being a literal recording of camel flatulence means it has to be better than 95% of music released around then. Being better than a lot of things from 2003 doesn't make it a must-hear album.
It was okay. Seven Nation Army is a banger but the rest wasn’t that great imo
i really was expecting just another alr rock album and it sorta was but i do see where the praise comes from
AJ: Simple songs about complicated things. “I salute your solution(s)” It’s good rock & roll. I think there’s something to like about every fucking song on here. I liked just about all their singles, but a little late to the party as usual. This album and icky thump were the two I could really go start to finish with the most without getting turned off. Fucking weirdos. I love them. 🖤🤍♥️ Cat: They get so much feeling and vibe from just two people. It’s incredible. Fantastic dynamic range. Just cool. Rawk. One of the songs is greyed out? Hypnotise? Gonna have to YouTube that one.
Some good singles but didnt ever make me go "cor blimey". The De Stijl album is a much bettet listen
If there's one thing we can all learn it's to never start an album with your best tune. The rest was alright though, plenty of variety across the album. I reckon with a few listens this could even reach the dizzy heights of 3.5.
Back when Jack White used to be the edgiest fucker in music. Are they married? Are they siblings? That’s all part of the alt-rock mystery. Probably added to their edge. Peak White Stripes. Find someone who doesn’t know Seven Nation Army. Some of the most iconic music videos of the 00’s lay in this track list. White Stripes probably get a 4/5 overall. Across their albums they’re more iconic than you think. Poses the question: are The White Stripes lame because they were the peak of 00s rock and that’s just dated now? Or are they lame because they were fucking shite really? Sot Dirty Red and White Bastards Black Math Hardest Button to Button Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine 3.5/5
3/5. Maybe a little controversial but not a perfect album. Some definite misses and even some hit songs are skips. It’s not bad just not awesome.
So this album is just odd. Jack and Meg White have very different talent levels within their instruments and it shows rather heavily. You can also tell who worked on which songs more, but Jack White's lyricism really helps the album come threw in a positive manner.
banal
langweiliger als erwartet
Detroit props. Credit for excellent guitar work. Jack White.
Enjoyed lostenjng to this one, but there were still only a few songs I liked alot.
Better album than i thought it would be.
Had some bangers
Noen bangers. Ikke helt min smak.
Pretentious but fun pop-rock. "In the Cold, Cold Night" was a good song. 3 lollypops out of 5. 🍭🍭🍭
Meh. I never really caught on to the white stripes hype.
Opening is a banger, some interesting songs but mostly fillers. Last song is proper cringe.
Alright, kinda repetitive (listened to first half)
already heard
Conocida Seven Nation Army.
You know, this started off strongly, but kind of lost steam and meandered its way through the middle section, before coming home strong. ‘Elephant’ is still a cut above most rock albums from the last 25 years, but really, it’s a low bar to scale. ‘Seven Nation Army’, ‘There’s No Home For You Here’, ‘Hypnotize’ and ‘Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine’ are the highlights, but the rest of the album is decent too, if not as memorable as the best bits.
Artist #886 on last.fm 15 scrobbles This record is not terrible but overrated IMO
5/10. i didn't dislike it but it was pretty disappointing. just felt like it didn't come together.
6/10. This was kinda a let down to me, didn't like much besides 7 Nation Army
A lot of this was just pretty boring. 6/10
Started strong then I gotta pretty bored after a few songs.
Forgot how much I liked You've Got Her In Your Pocket. Never want to hear Seven Nation Army again. Little Acorns hits hard.
Any good songs seem to be hidden behind distortion and fuzz with odd lyrics. I think they write 8bars and improvise the rest. It’s catchy but I wonder what they’d do with more experience or talent.
ponele que zafa
The White Stripes have never really done much for me. I appreciate Jack White as the strange, aloof musician he is, but it's never translated to me, music wise. It's fine, I like it when it gets super-heavy bluesy, but other than that I could take it or leave it. Favorite tracks: "Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine", "The Hardest Button to Button"
Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum Dum Everyone knows the riff and it’s one of the easiest riffs ever. The KISS principle is alive and well. This riff led to a big following for these guys but I never really understood
This is pretty solid punk-blues revival-rock with Jack White shredding his guitar on most of the songs. Seven Nation Army is the highlight of course, but his cover of Burt Bacharach's I just don't know is a nice touch also.
I finally understand some sense of why Jack White's chops get so much respect. Little Acorns and Faith in Medicine are particularly impressive. Blues bones under a very creative muscle and skin. I don't think I'd put it on randomly, but it was thoroughly enjoyable to listen. But I also understand why people ragged on Meg White's chops. I'd like to think I should be charitable but it was really distracting at times. Bummer.
Fire singles, the rest is a bit meh.
Bluesy
Pretty banging but when it gets a bit stripped back and folksy I don't enjoy so much
The White Stripes are good! I enjoy this album but think I get a little bit lost when Jack goes off into his rocky little moments. The best siblingspouses in showbusiness. Fave song (not called 7 nation army): Little Acorns I love the squirrel bits
Thought it was pretty good. I enjoy their style of rock. The heavy bass hits nice. Really disliked the song its true we love one another. Really liked Seven Nation Army, Black Math, and Hypnotize
66/109
'Seven nation army' è molto bella, anche senza il mondiale vinto dall'Italia. Carino
3.6
seven nation army es la única canción que destaca de este álbum. el resto pasan todas sin pena ni gloria
osea bien pero 6.5/10
Var ikke helt klar for å starte uken med seven nation army. Klapper heller i takt for en encore av helgen. Jeg er overraskende hvor mye jeg har hørt av dette fra før, uten å være klar over det. Syns det begynte bra (track 2-4) og sluttet ok (10-13)
meg white is an incredible drummer, very talented jack white is the singer
Ok some classics
This album opens with the thunderous "Seven Nation Army" a song that will live on for ages not just because of it's awesomeness, but because every college football team in the USA now uses it as a jock jam, usually as a kick-off anthem. Despite being tired of hearing that song, I can't deny that it has to be one of the all-time greatest opening tracks on a rock album. And this IS a rock album. I actually don't think this is the best White Stripes album. Heck, I don't even think it's the best Jack White album. But, it is a very good album. It's one hard-hitting blues riff after another, with the Jack White flair we've come to expect. Personally, it's gets a bit overdone by the time I get to the end of the album and the songs all start to sound the same (to be fair, this is probably true of the White Stripes across the board). Still, there are some truly fantastic tracks that make this an album worth checking out. Not sure what's up with the final track, though...such an odd way to end the album and the song feels totally out of place on Elephant. Really wish we could give half stars. This one's a 3.5 for me. Highlights: Seven Nation Army, Ball and Biscuit, Hypnotize
Not bad. Bluesier than I thought it'd be
Classic rock
3.5
Turns out they have more music than Seven Nation Army and Icky Thump. Jokes aside, I'm not familiar enough to say anything deep about this album but on the surface level, some of the tracks were quite enjoyable
For sure some underdeveloped songs on this album, where the sound and Jack's eclectic guitar playing can't quite carry everything. With that said, there are plenty of highlights throughout. 'Black Math' is awesome and it's refreshing to hear Meg on 'In The Cold, Cold Night'. The guitar on 'Ball and Biscuit' is so muddy and ugly, and Meg's drumming on 'The Hardest Button To Button' is vicious as hell. And then what the darn is 'Little Acorns'? I guess the only thing that's left to say is: lååå lå lå lå lå låååå låååå
While the rest of the world was falling head over heels over the White Stripes, I always had a harder time fully understanding the hype. I don't really care for Meg's simplistic drumming and Jack's heavily blues-inspired songwriting rarely hits me. That's not to say that there isn't a lot of things I really appreciate about the band and Elephant in particular. Jack's absurd guitar sound is as always a thrill (especially on "Ball and Biscuit") and there's a fair amount of great songs on this thing; not only counting the of course legendary "Seven Nation Army" and the banger "The Hardest Button to Button". In the end it all feels a bit to sparse, even with White's ear for production. I get the idea of dropping the bass, but the lack of it makes an otherwise explosive chorus as the one on "Little Acorn" feel like it was ripped directly off an early demo. A big 3. But a 3 nonetheless.
Some good songs, and I appreciate the minimalist approach to their sound. However, there are a lot of throwaway songs that just sound the same. Need more hooks and melodies to get excited about.
The white stripes - Elephant Notes - Only really heard seven nation army from this album - Im pretty meh on jack whites solo stuff - I like the guitar tones he uses but I get a bit tired of them after a while Fav - I just don’t know what to do with myself Least fav - Ball and biscuit - Solo was cool but the rest of the song didn’t do it for me
3.8 + A certified classic upon release (5 stars in Rolling Stone?!) but this record’s glory has faded for me. Still plenty of rockers (“Black Math”, “Girl, You Have No Faith…”). But also plenty of weak moments. “In the Cold, Cold Night” is cute but turns into a popcorn fart at the bridge. “Ball and Biscuit” has some scintillating guitar work but campy, pseudo-cool lyrics delivered with a lame “daddy-o” vibe. “I Want To Be the Boy” and “You’ve Got Her…” played back to back make for a boring middle.
Few classics in there. Overall okay
Thought it was mid. Might need another listen one day.
Apart from that one iconic song that everyone knows, it was all a bit meh. Some almost good stuff throughout and nothing that I would actively turn off if it was playing but certainly wouldn't seek it out.
Not entirely my cup of tea. Had a cool garage band kind of feeling to it which I liked. Standouts were Ball and Biscuit and The Hardest Button to Button.
Elephant's got a lot of good stuff on here. From the iconic single to deeper cuts, it's a fun listen all around. My only gripe is that it's a bit long, but this is only the second White Stripes I've listened to so it may need more time.
Better than the previous album, but still very plodding, which is largely a rest of the pedestrian drumming. Balk and biscuit is tge best track but its highly derivative of Voodoo Chile, so no marks there. I don't like 7 nation army either - just too plodding and one paced.
I write this two short blocks from the club where the White Stripes first started and about a half-mile from Jack White's Third Man Records Detroit store. Jack White is to music like Veganism is to eating. Meaning, how do you know if someone likes Jack White / The White Stripes? Don't worry, they'll tell you. Elephant is a good garage album. The ballpark anthem Seven Nation Army is almost a cliché now, but White has some other good songs on here. There's No Home For You Here, I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself are two. But, when he strays from the raw garage sound he's known for (In The Cold, Cold Night), the problems of Jack White / The White Stripes show. White's basic songwriting isn't supported on the weaker music of off-brand songs but excel when his garage sound is paired. I love what he's done for music, record stores, and recording, but this is a middle of the road album. 3.5/5.
Swingende rock! ***
too moody for me
Jack and the guitar stood out on this album. Everyone knows about "Seven Nation Army" (which deserves all its praise and acclaim), but the guitar on "Black Math" and "Ball and Biscuit" is baller! The White Stripes hit a bunch of genres here and made no bones about it. We even had a touch of folk? I don't think I imagined that. There were some unusual tracks here. I don't know if I liked it? Like, "Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine" is apt even for the year 2022, but I didn't enjoy it. Interesting, yes, but eh. But there were some good weirdness songs here. "In the Cold, Cold Night" is dark but has to be my favorite song here. Jack typically sings, but Meg really shines here. Simplistic but it grabbed me. The cover of "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself" shows the White Stripes' willingness to step out of their comfort zone. There were songs that strongly reminded me of Led Zeppelin. "Ball and Biscuit" had a garage band sound, but if I didn't know the White Stripes performed it, I would have bet money on it being Led Zeppelin. So even though the White Stripes are firmly garage band, I appreciate the nod to classic rock. I did enjoy this more than their first album, but some songs were misses for me. So it receives the same ranking as the other one (3).
I looove Jack White on the guitar. He is honestly a modern day guitar genius, as far as I'm concerned. And really, it's impressive too that him and Meg do all of this themselves. Seven Nation Army is such a stellar song -- it's one of those songs that everyone knows, even if they don't know that they know it. As a whole, this album falls under "good, not great" territory for me. The dirty distortions of the guitar are outstanding, but the album is overly bluesy, and I think that falls kind of flat for my personal taste. I absolutely respect and appreciate what The White Stripes accomplish on this album, though.
Good, high-energy rock. There are some misses here, but I enjoyed the album overall.
Classic rock sound. It was fine. Pretty middle ground for me
Elephant is fine. There are some bangers on here, but it also feels like there is a lot of dead space (for me). Things I liked: Seven Nation Army, Cold, Cold Night, Ball and Biscuit (Loved the sound, but it felt like it dragged on way too long. I don't mind longer songs, but I feel there should be some evolution or change in there), The Air Near My Fingers (Loved White's cadence here). Everything else was forgettable.

This bans was famous for his song "Seven Nation Army" and the rest of songs are of similar style.
Probably the most out together album the White Stripes did. A bit uneven, but some great songs here!
Duh duh duh duh duh duh duh... 19 years on and that hook still lives and breathes in popular culture. I never really cared for The White Stripes. Maybe it was the ambiguous incest/marriage thing, maybe it was because the blues doesn't do it for me...in the same way incest does. I'm into incest. Duh duh duh duh duh duh duh forever
Again another album with some bangers but as a whole not amazing. Think I liked this album more as a teen
Not something Bill would usually listen to but she enjoyed it. (3/5) Reminded Shannah of driving in Oregon. (3.5/5) Perfectly adequate for boring music - Jane. (2.5/5) Some great tunes. Love the fuzziness - (3.7/5) (3.2/5)
This feels like punk rock with a really solid foundation of classic 60s/70s rock and roll. I really enjoyed this album!
Was alright, not really my cup of tea but I appreciate the style and identity to their sound
Didn’t finish this one but have listened to it before. Some bangers but def couldn’t listen cover to cover.
I think Jack White knows music history quite well and it shows with this blend of garage, punk, blues and even some country. He's also technically gifted guitarist but he's more of a ventriloquist than a true original. Don't get my wrong I like the sound and it's fun album to listen to but it lacks something, it's not organic and at times seems forced. I actually like his other projects more, esp the Raconteurs.
Enjoyed it more than I expected. Lot of good songs on this album
