Reviews (page 13 of 14)
Some good sounds.
Good energy, but definitely suffered from opening with the best song.
It was fine. Nothing super special imo
The analogue sound makes this album. Even listening via a digital stream you get a sense of old school equipment. A lot of the songs were unfamiliar - odd, seeing as though I played it constantly for a few months after its release. I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself has an interesting take. I suspect it was something of an in joke between Meg and Jack at the time. Some of the harmonising reminded me of Queen. Oh dear.
Lots of great riffs, but average songwriting.
I suppose I should like Led Zepp... erm, I mean the White Stripes. I dig me some 60s garage rock and, although I never got into stuff like the Hives, I love Time Bomb High School and Too Much Guitar by Reigning Sound. In fact, I did actually buy a Zepp... erm, I mean White Stripes album once but I can't remember which one, which tells its own tale. Mojo and Uncut insisted that I should love them and the Guardian assured me that the Strokes were ersatz (they might have had a point there) and that Led Zepp.... erm, I mean the White Stripes were where it's at. Anyway, I did approach this album with the idea that I might actually like it but all good will evaporated pretty quickly. I mean, it's not their fault that 7 Nation Army became so ubiquitous so I'm happy to admit that it has an Instant Classic riff / bass line but then you just get lots of fucking around. Meg is singing right now, doing a Nancy Sinatra impression, valves humming at max volume in the background. They're analogue, you see. We've already had a Queen parody and an absolute annihilation of I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself (I can think of a few things, Jack). Now we're dipping into turn of the seventies Rod / Stones - which I actually love but there's a time and a place and it was the turn of the seventies. Oh, this one sounds like The White Stri...., erm, I mean Percy and Jimmy. Yes, with their reference points, I suppose I should really like them. But I really, really, really don't. Maybe side two will be better. It won't be though, will it? And give us that cricket bat back, you twat.
Is the definition of a 1-hit wonder with "Seven Nation Army", which is a fantastic song. But to go from that into "Black Math" which is just noise. Hard transition. With the exception of "The Hardest Button to Button", the rest of album really doesn't have anything to offer. "Ball and Biscuit" is OK. Last part (after the talk intro) of "Little Acorns" is fun. But overall, just not impressed. Feeling really generous today due to the 2 songs that have merit: C-
Seven Nation Army is a great song but is amongst the likes of"Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Stairway To Heaven" in the songs I like but never really need to hear again due to overexposure category. The rest of the album is fine to pretty good. Jack White isn't the best singer but he plays guitar very well. Meg White always got so much disrespect but her drumming doesn't take away from the songs at all . All in all it's an album that I liked more 20 years ago. It's not a bad listen, but I don't feel compelled to revisit it very often.
Pretty good
Yeah I used to love this… it’s lost a bit of its magic through the years. Couple of good numbers, but on the whole it doesn’t get me going!
Not my favorite White Strips album, but there are a handful of gems on it.
Seven Nation Army é top
Fine. Not really into the white stripes
Some songs that I thought were good but I really didn't like the last song. A lot of the songs just sounded the same.
Yeah ok. A duo trying to be Led Zeppelin. I'm so tired of blues influenced rock & roll.
Too repetitive
Hit or miss rock with some excellent drums
So, I was excited for this one. I remember being really into this album t one stage but for me it hasn't stood the test of time. A few tracks aside it left me kinda cold.
I appreciate the White Stripes, their songs are catchy and their tunes are good. But I'm a blues and metal fan when it comes to rock. It feels like I'm doing this album a disservice and it should probably be a four, but honestly I wouldn't listen to it again.
couple good singles
Standard White Stripes
Some highlights, some tracks I didn't like as much. Nice to listen to the whole way through, I have only been exposed to white stripes singles before.
Black Math Cold night There's no home for you here
Surprisingly many bangers. I was surprised since I have only listened to seven nation army before.
First listen. Really good album start to finish.
Not really exiting 3/5
Forgettable
Seven Nation Army is a classic. I liked some of the songs but overall it was pretty average in my opinion. I'm not really into punk rock. 3/5 stars.
A couple of great tracks, but a lot of it is pretty dull. Sparse instrumentation but not enough good ideas to make up for it
This is an album from my youth, I listened to it a lot. However, nowadays I don't enjoy it as much, I need something more neutral. And this album is anything but neutral, it has quite the tasteful punch.
Nice
Fav tracks are Seven Nation Army and Girl You Have No Faith in Medicine
A |---7----7----10----7----5----3----2--------| (x8)
some of the songs are bangers. fun to listen to, seven nation army slaps obviously. i'm dumb and didn't know anything about the white stripes so i just found out that this is jack white's band. 3/5
It was ok - I don’t really get the mega appeal of the White Stripes, but it was listenable.
I love the White Stripes but i wouldn’t say this is my favorite album of theirs... not to say it isn’t good, bordering great... but their other albums just be slappin harder Top songs include: seven nation army of course, ball & biscuit, the air near my fingers and black math.
Classic rock sounding, but still creative and modern
not my thing
3.5 / 5
Apart from the opener, not familiar with this band. A mixed bag really.
Such innocent times
Álbum divertido, já conhecia. Jack White melhorou com o tempo
All time favourite!
I purchased this album at release so know it very intimately. There are some great tracks but the others aren’t anything to get overly excited by. Has it stood the test of time?...kinda. 3 Stars!
Seven Nation Army is an all-time classic, but I didn't feel like many of the other songs complimented it all that well. A little too slow at times for my liking, but still enjoyable Already Saved: Seven Nation Army Saved After Listening: Ball and Biscuit
3/5 it had a little flare but nothing stuck
Amazing variety of musical styles. Just Jack & Meg White! Seven Man Army is way over-played (still), but the rest of the album is great too!
A handful of really amazing tracks (Seven Nation Army is an all time classic that will be listened to for the rest of time), but equally a handful of slightly unremarkable ones particularly towards the end. I enjoyed the album, but I'm not sure how often I'd actively listen again in its entirety. Awesome duo with great songs and fantastic live, but as an album it's a 7/10
Quite good.
The sound of the 2000s. Its iconic. duh. In the cold cold night is a good one. ball and biscuit has serious hendrix envy
This has an unfinished sound, which is kind of interesting. I’m also not sure if some of the songs are covers of earlier songs? At any rate, I don’t hate their sound, but I’m not in love with it. And some of the songs toward the end were definitely just too hard for me.
Solid rock. 7NA is obviously a banger.
Was okay
It's fine. Singles are 🔥
Some ho-hum B-sides and gratuitous noodling here and there can't detract from the absolute classics on this one. A highlight of early '00s rock for sure.
Here's another band that has been commercially popular and objectively great but never really did it for me. This album, though, does have some pretty nice licks and a cool groove overall, despite me not liking Jack White's voice very much. 3 stars.
Nice rock
Interesting album, highly acclaimed but looking at the songs specifically, nothing stands out that warrants a 4 to me
Seven Nation Army = love.
Enjoyable, heard many tracks on it before. The other songs outside of the classics are ok but not too memorable.
Really like the grittiness of white stripes despite their simplicity
Solid and you know seven nation army is a pump up song!
Some great songs but a lil poppy for my taste - I like their album De Stijl a lot more.
I don’t like seven nation army and the other songs were ok
The early 2000s in a nutshell. Simplicity.
White Stripes - Elephant Lots of 'songs' but none of any note. And certainly none I couldn't live without before I died. (this book is really stretching what is essential sometime). The studio has obviously got more expensive from the last one we had, but the songs were even more paper thin. Best Track - Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine. Worst Track - In the Cold, Cold Night 3/10
Fairly enjoyable and raw Rock music if it weren't for Seven Nation Army. If a song can be so corrupted by the wrong people and overplayed to the point of getting a visceral reaction anytime it comes on, that must say something about the song itself.
Football fight song
Not quite my type since rock genre seems to be too much for my taste.
This is unfortunately just my least favorite type of music. Early 2000s rock like this just grinds my gears. The style of it just immediately turns me off.
stop wasting my time
Thin repetitive. Only cut I'd buy is the first
"Seven Nation Army" is, of course, a banger. The rest of this was largely meandering and uninteresting.
Not terrible by any means, but quite uninspiring to me at this point.
Aside from a classic or two, just kind of … noisy throughout.
Took several listens to appreciate. Very mid album
Seven Nation Army is alright. And some of the blues-rock tunes sound great from an instrumental standpoint. But there's always been something about Jack White's singing that doesn't work for me. The tunes get annoying after a while.
Couple fun tracks in here but this sound wears thin fast. It just seems insubstantial.
muy sin más
- okay been wanting to listen to them after i recently found out that their drummer is a woman (awesome + feminism) - band kid vibes - i hear instruments and i hear vocals but i dont hear MUSIC - don’t think i’ll be revisiting this one - seven nation army will still get me lit tho
Honestly, I don't think this album was right for me. I did mildly enjoy Seven Nation Army. I just don't know what to do with myself, and you've got her in your pocket. But overall, it felt like nothing new production-wise on an album. Not a bad album by any means, but I don't see myself relistening to this anytime soon.
May be controversial but mid album. Every song feels like it's missing something to really elevate it. "It's true that we love one another" is quite good and I like this style of song. 2/5 album for me.
This one was hard for me to get through. The first song on the album is so good, but nothing stands out after that. Jack whites voice isn’t strong enough for me for this duo.
fuera del primer tema todo muy mid 2/5
I don’t care for this genre of music, so it falls flat for me.
I do not care for the White Stripes.
I liked it much less than I expected
Jack White I'm in your walls.
mid but iconic
2 for “seven nation army” only (and I don’t like it anymore anyway…)
Disliked, couldn't listen to this, not my type at all
Seven Nation Army I think is my favourite song on that album but I really enjoy the riffs in this album and the creativity as well. But i do feel like this album isn't really what I like listening to because its just not the genre of music that I enjoy, but I do know that is a good album because of the other reviews and how they got a Grammy for this album but overall I rate this album as 2.
I didn't have time to immerse myself completely. A couple songs were good but nothing extraordinary to me.
Variation var ordet! Från garagepunk till typ Beatles. SNA 💜
Jeg har simpelthen bare aldrig set lyset i The White Stripes.
..
I had a disagreement with a coworker because I said The White Stripes feel very soulless to me. This album has a couple songs that feel like White Stripes songs while the rest feel like larping. It's a very corny album
Interesting, not bad but too bassy for me
Whyyyy so much guitar based rock, I’m getting pissed now
Alright, but it feels like the songs are missing a little something that would give them more oomph and make them really good. A lot of them felt a bit flat
Jack White you gained 1 star compared to your last album. I know you're seen as iconic, but man am I not your fan.
I do not like this band, I did not care for this album
First half was fine, then I got bored
It is quite astounding how I can with almost 99% certainty ascertain when an album has ended nowadays because the music that autoplays afterwards is always from another artist and always much more enjoyable
miech
Started off strong but then after that was not great. Just kind of boring. Pretentious? Maybe.
Opening track was cool, and one other was also fine. But after that it just become poop.
I didn’t care for this album much. I like a lot of the guitar in here but it got repetitive at times, and I didn’t care for his singing voice most of the time. My fav track is In The Cold, Cold Night, least fav is The Air Near My Fingers.
⭐️Little Acorns 5.5/10.
The White Stripes were seen as THE musicians back in the day. I did not understand the oversized appeal back then. It is the same today.
Meh, i expected more
I really don't understand the appeal of the White Stripes. Their records have a really thin sound - the songs feel like they should have some real clout but it's just not there. Each track sounds like a demo. Jack White's voice rattles me too, which doesn't help - in fact, the only stand-out track here for me is fronted by Meg, 'In the Cold, Cold Night'. The rest is completely forgettable, apart from Seven Nation Army which is memorable for the wrong reason in that it has an impossibly annoying bass line that just doesn't let go. A big fat no from me.
Could be worse too.
The White Stripes is one of the bands I really wish I could enjoy but just don’t. Most of their music just doesn’t resonate with me even though it’s right up my alley. I just couldn’t get much from this one.
The album's subject matter is something to be desired as it doesn't really flow and seems random. I did appreciate hearing the old school radio hits on here but I feel like this band wouldn't have gotten as popular as it did if there was better on the radio back then.
nice, pas vraiment mon style mais nice
The drumming makes the white stripes hard to listen to. Not a fan but album is alright
Okay it's legendary first track but my God is it boring regardless. Slow 4/4 s going nowhere.
Its not that bad not great either we need some more stuff other than rock guys ive had enough didnt add any but it was fine
has very peak peak peak song seven nation army ( already has in the playlist) i likes theres no home for you here but i dont see myself listening to this if it came up on the playlist bruh they keep repeating the same words over and over so far none of the songs are sticking out to me but the album isnt unlistenable hypnotize is quite peak i added i like the country at the end but not playlist material 2/14
achei melhor quando ouvi da primeira vez
A couple good songs, not my style
To by dla mnie tłumaczyło dlaczego sporo utworów brzmi jak kopia the Fab Four z podkręconym przesterem.
not my type of shi but its ok
It's ok, you can die without listening to this one.
I didn't love it. The first few were fun. First reminded me of my childhood, then i wasn't feeling it. not my favorite type of music. 4/10
Favorite track(s): clearly I don't possess the right kind of white boy angst to enjoy this. Also Jack White's solos suck
I find something about them so irritating and I’ve no idea why.
Not my style of music would not listen again
Seven nation army is phenomenal. The rest is not my jam. Sort of nostalgic tho. Too slow for me, a bit depressing.
Seems like they ripped from Greta van fleet who ripped from Led Zeppelin (maybe not in that order). Derivative at the end of the day.
Not as good as the first album, but still great
Starting a support group for rock fans who find the White Stripes and Jack White boring. I know there are more of us out here
Melhor do álbum: "You've Got Her In Your Pocket". Pior do álbum: "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself".
I gave this album two chances which I think is generous. I tried to like jack white music but this concludes that i simply can’t.
This album was fine, not something I feel like I will really get into just because it felt fairly straightforward but didn't really grab me. I'm giving it 2 stars just because I feel like there is a chance that it could grow on me, but it still felt pretty average.
Ball and Biscuit is the highlight for me but most of the album just tends to feel incredibly "same-y" with no real creative touch
un diamant dans une boîte à chaussures
2.5 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz eratum; mon casque etait mal branche, c'etait donc pour ca qu'on comprenait rien
Few good tracks, not many though
Overrated
I continue to think Jack White is too far up his own ass for his own good
I like it, but then too much overdrive with the guitar. Some good rock n' roll and blues at times, but something was annoying me about it overall. 2.5/5
Dum dumdum dum dum dummm dum. Some good riffs and lots of nice guitar sounds, but it's really just a microwaved and kind of boring version of English blues guys from 1967 who just learned about Muddy Waters & John Lee Hooker and got to be the first ones to rip them off while using really loud amps with fuzz pedals. The slower, acoustic stuff on here is really awful - when your voice is this thin and weedy don't put it front and center. This is surely fun music to make, but it isn't that fun to listen to.
I thought this was an ok album. In the cold cold night was my favourite song on this album, I thought the simple bright guitar was nice and the low hum of the bass with the pretty vocals worked well together. Honestly tho it was a somewhat dull album in some parts perhaps due to it not being a genre I frequently listen to. I would definitely Listen to some songs on the album again but not the album itself.
Dull
Not a whole lot of interesting here. Another album on the list for a single song. Overall disappointing.
Ok duo. Couple good songs. Didn’t stay together long.
Twas okay. Rock, bit slow after the first two songs for me.
Maybe I just don’t really like rock music
that was… not good
Never got The White Stripes. Always felt like the emperor’s new clothes, loads of people celebrating them, but as far as I could see there really wasn’t much underneath.
I've never been the biggest fan of the white stripes even when they first came out they weren't my cuppa tea. It's been a good chunk of time and my taste in music has changed and I'm more willing to try new stuff but theyw really aren't for me.
I've listened to this album before, probably only once or twice though. It's a great album if you're into early 00s indie. "Seven Nation Army" will probably get played on rock radio forever and it certainly helped cement the legacy of The White Stripes and their influence on this era of rock & roll. But... it's starting to get a little same-y, right? Like how do you listen to "There's No Home For You Here" without singing "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" (from White Blood Cells)? That's so early in the album that it's discounts my opinion of the rest of the songs. I do appreciate that we hear Meg singing a little bit; I'm not sure if that's new for this album but it's a welcome change of pace. More hits than White Blood Cells, but idk if it’s actually better so it’s getting the same score.
5/10
Ehhh not a fan.
Pop rock basic
Long-winded album of the very same tasteless and boring blues rock vibe. At least, there are 2 or 3 good riffs.
Did not enjoy. Just don't like them.
Honestly, seven nation army is alright but it drags on
When this came out 20 years, I liked "Seven Nation Army" and "the Hardest Button to Button". Revisiting this again today, I have the same thoughts. Besides those tracks, the album is not for me.
I really don't get the hype for this album, I find the music to be kind of boring, and Jack White's voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
En pitänyt tästä. Biisien kaavat ovat yksinkertaisia, olisin kaivannut niihin monipuolisuutta. Liikaa puhelaulua mun makuun. Ylipäätään aika mitäänsanomaton.
This is not in the same calibre as the first three albums despite having 3-4 good songs
I really want to like this more than I do. If you want to strip down a band to basically a guitarist and a drummer then surely the instrumentation has to be on point.... Meg as a drummer is just awful. No amount of cranking up the gain on your guitar will cover it.
BEST SONGS: - Seven Nation Army - Ball and Biscuit - Hypnotize
Lazy, boring and repetitive. Big songs give it extra points but overall disappointing
Texas
who doesn't love Seven Nation Army? the rest is pretty good, too.
Same as White Blood Cells - just not my thing - (and Seven Nation Army rips off Bruckner!)
Dupy nie urywa
Boring as hell. I could die happy if I never had to hear Seven Nation ever again.
Heard it before. I never really understood why The White Stripes are such a big thing and Jack White gets treated like the second coming of Christ. The guy makes some average ass music. There are just two good songs on this whole album 2/5
2’5
Seven Nation Army is an all timer but tbh I was underwhelmed by the rest of it, instrumentals were mid and White's voice wasn't doing it for me... weird because I like quite a few Raconteurs songs.
eh
Some good songs, but got kind weird.
meh
solid 2, really disappointed, such high hopes for this album, and nothing stood out to me, talk about boring music
Seven Nation Army is a classic No Doubt but the rest this album didn’t impress me at all
Jack White might be a guitar virtuoso, but holy shit, I can't finish this album. It's so boring. Jack White has always been pretty hit and miss with me, but apart from the familiar song or two from this album, it sounds like a bunch of album filler. It's not that this record is out and out bad, per se, it's that I can't keep myself engaged enough to finish it. Every song feels like background noise. Admittedly, I've always been annoyed by Meg White's drumming, but I don't think this explains why I find just about every song so grating. I like some of Jack White's solo stuff, and he really is a fantastic player, but after listening to most of this record, I still don't understand how this band has garnered the popularity and success they've achieved. This, one of their most critically acclaimed records, is a hard listen for me.
Surprised that I didn’t like it nearly as much as I was expecting
Dang. Didn’t like much
Vähän liian homogeeninen levy että jaksaisi kokonaan hyvillä mielin kuunnella. 2/5
2,5
I've listened to this one before! In fact, 7 nation army was the first song I ever played on an open mic night. But hardest button to button is my favorite track. Was the album ground breaking? Not especially, does it flow well? Not particularly, is it alright? Yeah it's solidly alright.
not bad but not very memorable for me. yes, not even seven nation army.
One good song. Everything else is trash. 2/5
A few songs carrying the album, filled with some trash
2nd White Stripes album in this list. This one is more entertaining. I really like some songs that kick the blues into new sound such as "Black math" or "Ball and biscuit"...at first...but then I find it tiring...
I mean, it ain't my cup of tea. But the song with the dialogue in the beginning slapped. Also seven nation army slay.
Never could dig this band
The rhythmic changes are very exciting. Solid work with dynamics. But would it kill him to add a third chord every once in a while? Not to mention a bridge every now and then? I mean, lotsa people can play a blues riff. But when there’s no soul behind it, everything just sounds the same after a while.
Seven Nation Army is one of the most annoying songs ever made.
I really feel like I should like The White Stripes more than I do, but I've tried this album a couple of times now and it just isn't for me. Seven Nation Army is great, but it's cancelled out by how much I don't like the last track.
First song was epic! Rest was meh unfortunately
I am sick and tired of hearing Seven Nation Army. Yes, a cool song, but too overplayed. The rest of the songs bored me a lot.
Insane that Meg’s drumming catches so much flack when this album is mixed the way it is and has Jack White all over it
Pretty underwhelming
Not the worst album I heard so far here. But I don't enjoy this kind of commercial "indie sounding" crap. And Seven Nations Army is still over played af. Still trying to get through it. Maybe it will grow for me. Don't know.
Bar seven nation army, not many memorable songs 2/5
Surprisingly, this album includes one or two songs that are not abusively loud. Unsurprisingly, those songs are ruined by Jack White's nails-on-a-blackboard voice.
- Just not very good. It's mostly a pastiche of blooze rock and not bringing much new to the table. The writing is atrocious for the most part; so very boring/unimaginative. Jack White sounds like he sometimes has ideas but they never really go anywhere. He's also made a great career out some of the shittiest guitar tone ever put down. I was going to give it a 2.5 rounded up to 3 but I'm rounding down because of the song "Little Acorns" .... -
Eh
Meh
Surprisingly not good, Seven Nation Army carries
They just aren't my thing. Instrumentals can be decent but the vocals aren't it for me.
I'm not a white stripes guy (and perhaps never will be), but at least I can say I gave them a chance. I think the songwriting is somewhat creative, but the songs themselves are extremely middle-of-the-road rock. The singles have proven to be pretty good, and I think the energy on No Faith in Medicine would've sold me on the album if all the riffs sounded more like that, but I feel as though Elephant is mostly boring and bland. I feel a little like a stick in the mud because its seemingly well-received by many people, so maybe I need to relax a little.
A couple of good songs, but I ultimately couldn’t wait for it to end
wasn't feeling another WS album so I'm skipping and I'll go back to it over the wknd..
a couple okay tracks but honestly most of this album is absolute ass
put bibble to sleep
It's actually rude to start an album with one of the most iconic pieces of music ever and then have it be so mediocre.
Didn't really like most of the songs 😕 I only liked Seven Nation Army and 1 more other song
mehhhhhhHHHH
First listen. Ok.
Not my jam.
how dull and bland and bland and dull one hit wonder through and through NNN
OK
It’s got two great and fully formed songs , the rest feels like screechy and sparse demos to me. best track: seven nation army 2
Thought I would be annoyed by this, but actually found it quite pleasant (though it certainly overstayed its welcome)
seven nation army is an iconic song!! and i can also say that this is an objectively good album. however, its just not my cup of tea :/ i do like the lyrics tho
So so
5/5 for Seven Nation Army. But the rest of White Stripes has alway just been Meh to me. really wanted to get more out of this album.
Screamy instruments behind lyrics...Yeah..not my thing... Still... found some good music.. -Seven nation army 💪 -I just don't know what to do with myself -I want to be the boy -You've got her in your pocket -The air near my fingers -Its true that we love one another (such a hidden gem )
White stripes are not for me. 7NA slaps tho ofc
I'm just not that into the white stripes I think
I remember being 10 and liking this album
Mediocre music for mediocre people on a mediocre planet. Wearing a White Stripes t-shirt in public is a sure fire way to make me not want to strike up a conversation with you at a bar
Uhhhgg! The White Stripes again. No more!
Seven Nation Army earns this an extra star, otherwise so over the white stripes.
Ah, Jack White. Took the world by storm. I was caught in the downpour myself, but came to my senses pretty quickly and found some cover. Now I look at this album, and the rest of his work, as whiny, self-indulgent, and seriously overrated, a common occurrence during the last gasps of the rock era.
Great song
non mi uccidere marti :))
Alternative title: The White Stripes parodies the 1960s for an hour, and creates the most obnoxious guitar riff in the process. It has a few moments of beauty, but come on…
Echoes of Jimi Hendrix aswell as the blues of The Rolling Stones I thought at times throughout the album but maybe that's just me. Not sure what thought overall. Not bad, not great.
boring, did not like
A couple interesting things in here but this is mostly boring and annoying to me.
Good rock and roll but boring.
Noisy and intimate, mostly simplistic musical arrangements. The outbursts of the guitar solos really make the record come to life. They feel very focused on call and response melody and rhythm lines. I don’t like how Jacks voice is often mixed very boxy with unpleasant frequencies. What I do like is the signature bass sound, bass heavy but still griddy.
Because I love the first track I thought I'd love this album but the rest was a bit shite. The algorithm playing other songs from the period provided much better tunes.
Not for me 2.1
Its ok. Pretty teenage. DOn't like the voice narration
I like Seven Nation Army — a lot!!!
Meh
Not so much
Boring but fine.
1.8 just can't stand them idk what it is, i can appreciate it might be good to someone who likes them tho lol faves: seven nation army???
I only knew this band for the first song of the album, Seven Nation Army. It has a feeling of new rock. It balances very well it's energy, but sometimes I feel like it lacks intensity. Then you get In The Cold Cold Night, and WTF was that? Does that song belongs to this album? Same thing for I Want To Be The Boy To Warm Your Mother's Head (They could've used a shorter title). Then other two unbearable songs followed by The Hardes Button To Button which is useful when you want to walk and feel cool but that does not make sense when hearing the lyrics. The beggining of Lttle Accorns was cool but once the melody started the motivational message did not mix well with the music. They are very creative and the lyrics change a lot, but this is not for me. One has stuck with me so far, It's True That We Love One Another, that one felt real. Lol, the first and the last one were my favorites
It was okay, nothing special for me.
My first real exposure to The White Stripes. A decent rock album. I wouldn’t call it great, but it’s good. Man, does he love that distortion pedal.
Tandy Scale Rating: 2.5 Best Songs: Seven Nation Army, Ball and Biscuit Foot Notes: Detroit bias but maybe the most iconic song of all time followed unfortunately by a completely average album Would I Listen Again: Probably not
Could be stripier.
don't get the hype
Not a huge fan, wanted to like it more. Seven Nation Army is great
seven nation army 5/5 rest of album 2.5/5
i just don’t like the vocals or lyrics
Meh, didn't offend but nothing really stood out either
Mmmm... Give me something interesting
Meh
The Hardest Button to Button was pretty good. Nice riffs on Acorns and Hypnotize. Second half better.
Known before: some songs Standouts: 1. Seven Nation Army 7. You've Got Her in Your Pocket 5.0
Obviously Seven Nation Army stands out here. But I didn't expect the rest of the album to be sort of mid and forgettable.
1. 7 nation army - 1.5 2. black math - 1 3. therez no home for you here - 1 4. dont knouu uuhat to do uuith myzelf - 1 5. in the cold night - 1.5 6. i uuant to be the boy - 1 7. youve got her in your pocket - 1 8. ball and bizcuit - 1.5 9. the hardezt button to button - 1 10. little acornz - 1 11. hypnotize - 1 12. the air near my fingerz - 1 13. girl you have no faith in medicine - 1.5 14. itz true that uue love one another - 1
Seven Nation Army is good :)
A couple of good tracks but this has really aged poorly, student lyrics, monotone music
Seven Nation Army. Too rocky
Even though "Seven Nation Army" is a done-to-death song, it still somehow is a track that is *very* hard to get sick of. The rest of the album unfortunately stands in it's shadow, but the rest is fine. Not much that stood out, but nothing bad either
Meh. Alguna canción chula, pero ya está.
Heard before: some First off, this sounds GREAT. The guitars are 1,000 feet tall, and the drums are just about as deep. But it leaves me struggling with my Jack White conundrum. I just don't connect with his scuzzy faux-bluesman persona at all. Tough to explain; I like Jon Spencer, Nick Cave, Tom Waits - any number of modern arch-blues dudes - but there's something about Jack. By the time I get to the pretty good guitar solo on the 13th track, I can barely pay attention. But man, the guitars on Ball and Biscuit sound so good. Shame the song is so dull. Top tracks: There's No Home For You Here, Girl You Have No Faith In Medicine, In The Cold Cold Night
Fine. Sometimes I felt like it could be timeless and then other times I felt very much it was from the early 2000s and sounded very similar to Weezer and Cake.
Jack White förstod inte the Beatles
Listened to 3/4s of it to be honest but was surprisingly disappointed after Seven Nation Army
'Seven Nation Army' and 13 others. White Stripes lack of bass always annoyed me, amusing that their biggest hit has a a fake bass on it. Bass is best, why doesn't everyone know this yet?
Most of this is that sleepy almost formless rock that ends up being mostly a let down. 7 Nation army is the stand out on the album.
Ohhh Jeremy Corbyn. repeat to fade. I don't know what it is about the White Stripes, they're plainly quite good, but even at the time when I liked them, I never loved them, and I've never felt the desire to stick any of their records on in the intervening 20 years or so, even the couple I bought. Also, the big songs here were absolutely played to buggery everywhere, and the rest is kind of meh blues rock noodlings. I drifted in and out listening to this again now, mostly bored. Started as a 3, managed to work its way down to a 2. I'm noticing a theme in this project, maybe its the blues rock that doesn't do it for me. I like the blues. Shit, the cover version here just killed Burt Bacharach. Confirmed 2.
Might be residual gripes from when it was everywhere and overhyped, but I still have a hard time listening to this.
I like the production of the album. Most of the songs have a good hook, but I don't like the singing on most of the songs. The cover version of I Just Don't Know What to do with Myself is an abomination. Favorite song: Seven Nation Army.
Overrated
On first listen, kind of annoyed me a bit and wasn't really the vibe at the time, but I stuck it on the day after and didn't mind it. You really do have to be in the mood. I can appreciate why the album is raved about, it's a really cohesive set of songs, no track really feeling like filler, with punchy stripped back rock/blues production. However, it does begin to feel a bit samey after a while and I was looking forward to the album finishing at about the 40min mark. Aside from the famous tracks, I really liked The Air Near My Fingers. I would probably listen to this album again, but would need to be in the mood. I do however think it deserves a place in the 1001, mostly due to the quality of the album, but it isn't really for me. All in all, not a bad album, but relative to the other albums in the 1001, not a particularly high scorer.
mostly forgettable bluesy garage rock
Middle of the road for me
Meg White can't drum and the production sounds like shit, but not even in an interesting punk sort of way. It's also fucking boring.
Kinda classy but feels repetitive. Maybe I’m just tired tho.
Too moody for me
Nope. Hey - like what you want obviously - but this whole idea that "back to basics / simple and primitive / low-fi / raw" is some sort of ROCK PURITY that counters and surpasses anything else that has more art, thought, creativity, melody, and <gasp> a goddamn bass line is utter shit and insulting. I hate this. ...ok....upon a bit more subjective reflection and listening...am boosting to 2 stars. Having been subjected to the grating banality of Seven Nation Army for years I was ready to give this 0 stars if possible but there's actually more melody in here than I'd thought or expected. e.g. "I Want To Be The Boy..." and "You've Got Her In Your Pocket" were pretty nice - I'd really like to have heard these with a full (better?) band. But overall the lack of bass gives the entire production a hollowness that's impossible to listen to; the drumming is terribly pedestrian and sloppy, and the low-fi aesthetic is something I would be surprised I'd ever rate higher than a 2. So...yay I guess for Jack White's talent - and/but I like the Ranconteurs infinitely more than this band... 3/10 2 stars.
