Rio My Own Way Hungry Like the Wolf New Religion Save a Prayer The Chauffeur

Such a good vibe, I mean, they really are bangers, 80s cheesy bangers for sure, but still bangers! I would listen again and have and will continue to.

Hello 6th grade. This was a fun walk down memory lane. I appreciated SLB voice more than I remembered. This is a solid peice of early 80s British pop invasion. 4/5

Possibly the most 80s of all 80s albums - from the cover, to the bands look, to the songs and especially the videos - this album is pop perfection. What I wasn’t astute enough to realize as a teen (when this album was released) was the debt owed to Nile Rodgers and Chic - but it’s very clear listening to it now.

I listened to this album a few times as I worked. It has some good songs on it. I would argue this is a defining album of the 1980s.

7/10 - stronger first 2/3s

Incredibly fun!

So 80s-coded yet effective.

Solid stuff, surprised how good the rest of the album is off of the one global hit that is on here.

Favorite songs: Rio, Lonely in Your Nightmare, Hungry Like the Wolf, Hold Back the Rain, Last Chance on the Stairway, Save a Prayer, The Chauffeur

the album cover is pretty and I liked most of the songs basically the entire album

I'm boppin. 3.8.

Tätä levyä on tullut kuunneltua aiemminkin. Aivan hyvä, hyviä biisejä, mutta myös joitain ”täyteraitoja”.

i really liked this album i knew one song from it but i overall liked it i don’t listen to a lot of this genre of 80’s music so i liked hearing something new solid 8/10

Favorites: - Rio - My Own Way - The Chauffeur

super destacable en el género y que bueno es el bajo lol como se siente 8/10

Tubular!

Great 80s New Wave album.

Favorite Track: Hungry Like the Wolf

lurv it always

ohhhhh. really cool music that i havent listened to before. Rankings -Rio:

Omg this is soooo danceable and v nostalgique!! Feel myself bopping along in the office lol. One of my fave albums of the month!!

Solid album 8/10 new wave 80s rocks and pretty cool.

It was quite long

Being a child of the MTV generation, I have fond memories of the music of the 80s and bands like Duran Duran. While they were never my absolute favorite, I distinctly remember watching their videos / hearing so much of their music during the decade. So, going back to revisit this album was a lot of fun, even if I ultimately didn't think it was a complete record. Certainly, the highs are very high. The title track and Hungry Like the Wolf will make any comprehensive list of the best songs of the decade. Save a Prayer might be better than both of them, even if it never was as popular here in the States. Beyond this, there were others outside of the hits which are quality tracks. I really liked New Religion, it reminded me of something you might hear from a band like Midnight Oil. Also, I thought it was great that they closed the album with The Chauffeur, as it was such a departure from what preceded it on the record. That said, there were a few tunes on here I wasn't crazy about. Also, knowing how they refined their sound in later years with such great stuff as Come Undone, Ordinary World, Notorious and others, I actually ended up being slightly disappointed with some of these tracks. That keeps me from making this a 5-star effort, though it certainly is still an excellent record. 4 stars.

Actually holds up super well

mega spoko CZEMU TO MNIE PRZESLADUJE. CZEMU SA 3 PLYYTY W JEDNYM I MIMO ZE SKIPUJE TO SIE WLACZA OSD NOWA HALO. NIE CHCE SLUCHAC TEGO PO 10 RAZH HELP

One of the first albums I ever bought on vinyl. Still very damn good.

Muy buen álbum, me recuerda mucho a Depeche Mode, salvando las amplias diferencias. No están a la altura de semejante banda PERO me encantó escucharlos y destaco mucho las letras de las canciones, muy buenas.

Unlike most 80's new wave pop, I think Duran Duran has aged rather well. I would have never guessed at the time. 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple used DD to rather poignant effect. I did a country-ish cover of it, meaning to be ironic and came to find I love the song.

I always liked his playing, but listening to this again after all these years confirms that John Taylor deserves to be on the Mount Rushmore of bass players. Hot damn. And unlike Neil Peart (who is fresh on the brain from the last album), his playing never feels needlessly showy. In fact, it’s a testament to the rest of the band that JT’s bass grounds these rich arrangements in a propulsive, funky and dynamic rhythm. Rio is sonically rich that way, a mix of glass-shard guitar accents, driving beats and atmospheric, pitch-perfect synth ornamentation. I don’t always love Simon LeBon’s vocals, but the songs are strong enough that it usually doesn’t matter. Best song: “Save a Prayer.” Best video: “Hungry Like the Wolf.”

Not perfect, but has some pop moments that still sound fresh. And there's that whole revolutionizing rock videos thing.

Very 80's, in a great way. Great way to start the day. I think I have to be in a specific mood to want to come back and listen to this, but it'll definitely be a good time anytime I do. Favorite Songs: Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, Lonely in Your Nightmare

Cool~~

The highs on this album are so good but some points are forgettable

Perfect album to dance to.

Defined a decade. Takes me back. Got a little overplayed but still good stuff.

Hungry like the wolf Fun album

I liked

4/18 Heard the hit songs from this album but never the full thing before. I liked it and definitely need to add it to my physical collection

I don’t care if hungry like the wolf is a top 10 cheesy song I love it.

this is an easy 4.. maybe even a 5 if i listen to it again in the sun.

Ahhhh, I really wanted to love this album. The cover art alone is almost worth 5-stars, one of the most iconic album covers of all time, one that screams 1980s. And that's not even mentioning the title track, which in my opinion merits much more praise than it's more popular counterparts Hungry Like the Wolf and Save a Prayer. One thing I never appreciated about any of these songs until I listened to the entire album here was just how good the basslines are in these tracks, shoutout John Taylor (who also conceived the title of the album). Simon Le Bon's vocals aren't really my thing, but the way this album just oozes 80's vibes counteract some of that stylistic distaste. The rest of the track list doesn't quite live up to the mega hits, but there is more than enough here to warrant its spot on this list. Highlights: Rio Hungry Like the Wolf Save a Prayer

So 80s

Easy to write this album off given how ubiquitous both the album and the band were at the time. Easy to forget how much of a step change it was for popular New Romantic/Synthpop music. And John Taylor has never really been appreciated as a bassman, but you can here on this album why he really should be.

Save a Prayer was my fav song, it really reminds me a bit of The Cure, but with another focus, possibly another genre. Wouldn't hear it again, apart from a couple of songs. I would rate it 3.5 or even 4 out of 5 for my taste.

I didn’t realize how good they were when I was in middle school

Vraiment aimé la chanson titre et Hungry like the Wolf!

A dance party on my turntable. It's unapologetically retro, but who cares when the grooves are this good? The production's as bright and bold as Simon Le Bon's jackets. It's so damn fun I wanted to wear leg warmers while listening. Spins: 2 Playlist Additions - Rio - Hungry Like the Wolf - Save a Prayer - The Chauffeur

Sehän oli oikein mukavaa dursku durskuu. Solidi nelonen

Groovy! I'm a fan.

Dispite all the sunny vibes this stuff feels like a lifegiving rain with wide rainbow and blinding evening sun. Basslines are perfect and production done good. It's giving a-ha's works a bit

Сара - 5 Марко - 4.5

Three MONSTER hits, all of which hold up forty plus years later

Still really good - They had the songs

giving it +1 for nostalgia, not sure I like it as much as I did as a kid

Great album, RIO is my favorite

New wave, synth-pop, pop rock, dance-rock.

My mum's favourite band. I guess it's in the genes because I think this is as close to 80s pop perfection as one could get. It's just great, no notes.

Klasyczek

Really good album. I never listened to a lot of Duran Duran and maybe that will change with this album. Nice vibe, classic 80s.

whole album is too much, couple songs every now and then could be nice

Paar bangers, maar ook veel filler, maar de bangers zijn wel echt bangers

Rio nice

Deep down I always suspected that I'd be a fan of Duran Duran. I never took the time, maybe simply because New Romanticism had long ended by the time I was old enough to appreciate it and I was always trying to be forward thinking with my music. But I really like this. Duran Duran described themselves as a mixture of The Sex Pistols and Chic, which doesn't really describe the music but does really show where they fit into music history. Their style was a sleek and sexy take on 80s aesthetics, complete with minimalist and internationally inspired artwork and their embrace of MTV. Maybe Duran Duran were cooler than I gave them credit for.

It is an album very funny. I like it

Great memories from when I was a kid, superb musicianship and so much nostalgia.

This was never my favourite album of theirs but listening to it again now it does rip. Synth is cool and there's a reason they're stand outs of the already great New Wave genre. The composition on most of these is so impressive. Also love the stylish album art.

- I like this - good background music - 🔥🔥🔥 - just good vibes

Pretty iconic 80s album. I enjoyed a fair amount of tracks in here but I'm also not the biggest Duran Duran fan. I definitely have to be in the mood for them.

teste. só conheço as mais populares e nao tive tempo de ouvir todo, mas pretendo, otimas musicas de qualquer forma

Recognize songs; classic 80s vibe; fun

I really loved the last song. Also the artstyle of the cover is fire.

This album nails that classic ’80s vibe. It’s fast-paced, fun, and has a few tracks that feel genuinely timeless. There are a couple of less exciting moments, but the overall energy and consistency carry it through.

3 Big hits from the album. All music I remember although I wasn’t much into it at the time. Could probably still be played on the dance floor.

The title track is so steez. Soooo 80's, kinda gay. IT MEANS SO MUCH TO MEEEEEE

¿Homenaje? ¿Plagio? Saaaaran

This for me is a classic. My mom played this tape out in her convertible.

Really cool album Standout songs: My own way New Religion Last Chance on the Stairway

This sure is Rio by Duran Duran.

O love 80s music

4 for nostalgia

I really like this album, I’ve been meaning to listen to Duran Duran and I guess now was a perfect time

Listening to this one makes me feel alive, alive, alive.

I knew Hungry Like the Wolf going into this, but the rest of Duran Duran's repertoire is pretty unknown to me. That said, it ended up sounding pretty much just like what I would've imagined, which is sort of like Devo but less subversive. I really like Devo, but I feel like they have more of a unique artistic vision that gives the music some more personality. This album was lacking a little bit of that for me, but I still really enjoyed the sound as a whole. I think I'll probably end up giving it 4 stars.

Really fun album. Was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Was a refreshing change of pace compared.

Very slick album! The slickness levels are through the roof on this one. Some stuff gets a LITTLE samey but the big songs here are the big ones for a reason for sure. You can hear the influence this record had on bands like St. Lucia.

30 albums so far and 12 of them are in my collection. This is one of them. Banger after banger.

*Great album

Stupid, inane, overproduced, a godsend! I would probably be a bit harsher on this album than I am right now but after listening to the sonic equivalent of oatmeal I'm grateful for this album having things like 'decent singing' and 'song structures'. If I was a teenage girl in 1982 I would definitely have a Duran Duran poster in my bedroom. I wish they laid off the synthesizers a little bit and let the songs breathe, but the hooks and hits are there. I appreciate that the back half of the album starts to get weirder with the synths, especially in 'Chauffeur', and I wish they explored that a bit more. Some of the non-singles sag a bit but overall I had fun. Kind of forgot how stalkery some of the song on here are though. Edit: I think I was a bit too grumpy when I listened because actually this album is awesome. Such a fun time, and I don't know if there's a bad song on here.

Saw these live on their tour for this album as my then girlfriend was in love with Simon Le Bon, I even sported a John Taylor type mullet for a while! Anyway they were pretty good and this album is an 80s gem.

"Rio" is the second studio album by English pop rock band Duran Duran. An apt description of the musical style is "a new wave, synth-pop, pop rock and dance-rock album with musical elements such as disco and funk." The album was produced by Colin Thurston and utilized more experimentation such as the vibraphone and marimbas than their debut. The bandmembers included Simon Le Bon (lead vocals, vibraphone, ocarina, marimba), Nick Rhodes (keyboards, synthesizers, backing vocals), John Taylor (bass, backing vocals), Andy Taylor (guitar, backing vocals) and Roger Taylor (drums, percussion). The album initially had mixed-to-negative reviews but retrospectively is considered their best. Commercially, it reached #6 on the US Billboard LP's and Tapes Chart and #2 on the UK Albums Chart. The self-titled "Rio" opens with metal rods being dropped on piano strings played backwards. Quick drums, a scooting bass, swirling keys and guitar strikes. Le Bon with clear vocals in a song actually about the band's ambition to succeed in the US. I never knew that. A nice mix and concludes with extended sax sounds by Andy Hamilton. Nick Rhodes' girlfriends' laughter begins the rocker "Hungry Like the Wolf." Harder guitar and a dance beat. A very catchy chorus and backing vocals. Of course, I have to mention the sexual moans at the end. This has to be the first video I think of when 80's music videos are brought up. "Hold Back the Rain" was written as a direct message to bassist John Taylor's on his partying lifestyle. Another fast song with guitar slashes and a rolling bass. Swirling and echoing synths. And another song with a catchy chorus. The album closes with two ballads, the highlight of which is "Save a Prayer." A lovely synth melody. Le Bon with melancholic vocals as he realizes his intense romantic experience is fleeting. This album has aged really well. Pop, rock and dance. Great catchy vocal choruses. Fantastic bass and guitar. Solid beats. The hidden treasure might be the creative synths by Rhodes; it's not the annoying 80's synth sound that was all over the place at the time. A lot of times it's underneath anchoring the tone and atmosphere. The mix is great. This album does take one back to a time and place in the 80's but radio stations like Sirius' 1st Wave have most of these songs on heavy rotation and, I believe, this album has grown in stature. Anyway, it's a good sounding album with plenty of good songs that sounded great today.

I'm sure some of the reviews here will bemoan an 80s pop album being on the list. But, come on, it's Duran Duran!

won me over in the second half! had a fun time

I was a prog snob in 1982, and wrote off Duran Duran as a bunch of pretty boys who probably didn't even play their own instruments, Well, guys, I'm sorry - this is some great musicianship and excellent songwriting (by the band members themselves), and I'm sorry I didn't give you the credit you deserved at the time. It's not a perfect album, but it's a damn good one, and John Taylor is a hell of a bass player.

It's got a good vibe. I wasn't paying much attention while listening to it but no song particularly got my attention so i'd say high 3 because it was still enojyable

Certainly a classic, great album

The hits - Rio, the incomparable Hungry Like the Wolf (a Jeremy karaoke classic if there ever was one), and to a lesser extent Save a Prayer - definitely carry this album over the remaining deep cuts which are fine but probably not in need of a re-examination. First time hearing this album in full, this was just a little before my time, although Hungry Like the Wolf played throughout the 80s on MTV, and for good reason. Feeling charitable and nostalgic so will bounce this up to a 4.

Rating: 8.5/10 So damn funky and fun to listen to.

Duran Duran is one of those names I would hear and never took the time to listen to but now I wish I had cause this album was fire. That dope 80s production and the vocals go so well together and i was hooked as soon as the first note came in. Will be exploring more.

I like Hungry like a wolf. The other songs are okay, but not my favorite.

Good stuff!

Somehow manages to sound simultaneously futuristic and quintessentially 80s. Zips along at a nice pace

Great album! Loved getting to expand on my Duran Duran discography. I already know their popular songs so I enjoyed getting to hear the rest of the album. Favorites - "Hungry Like The Wolf," "Save A Prayer"

This is the album of a few famous songs like "her name is rio and she dances on the sand..." and "hungry like the wolf" Maybe too old school for me to buy the record but I enjoyed it.

I can see why people love them so much, great album and a lot of fun to listen to.

This was fun to listen to

Classic 80s rock. One of the greats, you'd know Hungry Like the Wolf from them. We've got strummy guitar, poppy drums, and plenty of wavy synth in the background. How do all the singers sound exactly the same, it's like there is a specific 80s singer accent they just all adopted. This is a good album though, I am recognizing more songs than I thought I would - or maybe they just all sound so similar - hard to tell.

Very VERY good record, lots of fun pop songs with fantastic rhythm sections. John Taylor's bass playing is DELICIOUS. Am absolute must-have for any 80's record collection for SURE.

excellent

Classic 80s pop with era defining hits

Yeah, these guys are a bit overrated. Yeah, they're not the most unique band of their time. But truth be told they just make some fun pop music that's easy to enjoy and vibe with. This album is filled with hits and it's not sickeningly 80s like many other popular albums from that decade are. You can just put it on and enjoy it very easily.

like a birthday or a pretty view.

Listened to this with matt in the way to BB, blindsided by how good this was. Such a strong opening track and first half. Great musicians playing in a genre that is know for relying in production instead of skill.

Solid Duran Duran album

Aaah, the sounds of the 80s. Very fondly remembered.

Classic 80's.

Great tracks and fantastic bass throughout, thought the singer was a little weak and faded into the background some of the time, really liked the album though

Fun dancing with the girls

All tracks to me sound almost the same. This is not a bad thing. Every track has good flow from one to the other with breaks in the intensity about half way and emphasizing a driving bass line throughout. The big spiritual bug people caught in the late 60's to early 70's was almost fully evaporated by this time, and LSD/weed gave way to diet pills and cocaine. The country side hippy swing giving way to big city light and money money money. This is the kind of song you put on for the party and let it play while no one really knows what track is on and no one really cares. The album begins with Rio who is, I assume, also the face of the cover. If Rio is as swank as she is described then I'd say she earned the front spot. Save a prayer though? And a perfect closer. One abrasive enough to remind you to quickly find a new cassette before the song curses the rest of the night. Seriously, what is this Dracula's castle bullshit? I give it 2 8 balls and a day looking for your lost wallet, now picked clean.

I knew Duran Duran's name but I didn't remember which song/s it was. "Hungry like the wolf" was the one! I like this album a lot, I think I've added almost every single song to my liked. Honestly "hungry like the wolf" is one of my least favorites, perhaps even my least favorite, of this album. Cray! They did a good job with this. I love the vibe of this album, especially the vibe of "The Chauffeur" because it's so eerie! It's so fun. I think Duran Duran is just one of those classic bands that everyone knows (at least people who are into music or grew up then) but they don't know how they know them. I'm glad I got the opportunity to listen to this album!

it's kinda funny, beyond the couple of culturally suffused meme songs, that jangly processed sound is a factory for some really great tunes. if you squint it seems like there's something formulaic about it, but shit the formula is just real enjoyable and fun throughout. i listened through a couple times, and i think it might be lacking one or two real slammers that i'll have on repeat for hours, but other than that it's rock solid. favorite song is probably My Own Way; The Chaffeur is also a very neat closer. strong 4

Rating: 8/10 I'm not really a big fan of Duran Duran but Rio is pretty much gold. With only 9 tracks and two hits, that leaves some good deep cuts with only a couple lesser moments. Loved My Own Way, The Chauffeur, and especially New Religion and Save A Prayer. The album has the beautiful lush sound with melodies and groovy bass that you expect from the 80's new wave, and does it particularly well for the poppier side of things. Still though, I honestly really don't know if the music here would feel a fraction as good without its addictingly cool bass lines.

Rio and hungry like the wolf alone propel this to a 4. A ton of fun. The front 2/3 is very strong but fades in the final 2-3 tracks.

Widely hailed as Duran Duran's finest work... and it is. John Taylor (speaking to Yahoo! Music as cited in the wiki article...) said "This is the album thta put us on the map - and hs kept us there." Couldn't have said it better myself. That being said, synth pop generally isn't my thing and I don't really visit this record all that often, except "Hungry Like The Wolf" - that is a masterpiece of a song.

8/10 Favorites: Hungry Like the Wolf Hold Back the Rain Save a Prayer

polyrytmistä kiisseliä, pysyy algoritmin mädättävät aivot hereillä. 8.5/10

As a kid in the 80s I remember disliking the following album, Seven and the Ragged Tiger. The stuff up to Rio was alright but we still viewed them as pretty boys that the girls liked while we listened to cooler stuff like, er, Genesis. This album has aged better than I expected, possibly because their best musician was the bass player and there tends to be more emphasis on that now

I thoroughly enjoyed this whole album, I knew the hits obviously, but was surprised the rest was really good too. I love new wave, I wasn't alive in the 80s but there is absolutely a weird nostalgia in it. Hungry Like the Wolf and New Religion were my favourites.

Is there any album more 80s than this album? If it weren't for the guitars giving it a postpunk edge I might hate it, but every aspect of it, vocals, bass, drumming and synths, it's all undeniably great, even it's it's not my taste.

very good

Duran Duran might be written off as an example of the time in which the music was produced and not exactly timeless. But the musicality is undeniable, the songs are essential pop, and the deep tracks are actually as good or better than the hits, artistically speaking. I wonder how these songs would hold up if they were arranged differently.

This is honestly an album in super excited for! Rio, a really fun track that I’d honestly forgotten about. It was awesome to give it another listen! Same with My Own Way. I knew this one prior to this listen too. Lonely in your nightmare, a decent track that I’d never heard before this listen! Obviously I knew Hungry Like the Wolf going in. A great track! I have memories of listening to this song with my dad and laughing at some people’s misheard lyrics. Hold Back the Rain! I liked the keys in this track. It gave it such a cool musical profile, and the groove just continued throughout the track. I loved the guitar at the end of Last Chance on the Stairway. Save a Prayer was an enjoyable tune. The chauffeur was a really interesting closer. I thought it summed up the album nicely. Overall, giving this a 3.5/5 ⭐️, 7/10. The hits do truly make this album! It was a genuinely good listen though, and I will probably listen again. 39/1089

A funky blast from the past. I remember when this came out and IMHO it's still as good as it was then

One of my favorite albums of all time!

so much experimenting and authenticity

I dig it all, though a lot of the songs sound the same. Save a Prayer is such a jam.

Went in with no expectations and had a lot of fun. What great basslines

i wish my name was rio 😔

Duran Duran I wasn’t aware of your game

Took me right back to the 80’s and MTV

I haven’t been the biggest fan for the 80s albums on this list, but I enjoyed this one. Hungry Like a Wolf was definitely the standout, but it’s pretty consistent thoughout.

Now where are my shoulder pads ... ?

Absolutely fantastic new wave/synth pop album. Rio and hungry like the wolf are PEAK

Decent as far as cheesy 80's music went. 7/10

This was far better than I expected it to be based on my hazy memories of watching Rio and that wolf song on MTV. Sort of new wavy, sort of pop, but nothing too saccharine sounding. Putting this in my rotation.

4/5 - Pretty damn good 80s sound in a bottle. The hits are great, and the rest isn't far off. Belongs on this list for sure.

awesome 80s pop!

Interesujący album, do którego będę wracać

gran disco. lo disfrute, ceo que nunca habia escuchado a duran duran sabiendo que era el, ups

So good they named them twice.

Enjoyed this one a lot more than I expected. I loved the futuristic space pop sound. “Hungry like the wolf” was easily my favorite. May check out some of their other albums.

Nice! Loved the last song!

Great album as expected they’re famous for good reason 👍

Some really standout tracks but the album suffers from monotony in terms of sound.

Classic. I love the 80's.

The textures and musicality in this album is great, love his voice as well and great music for the morning as well

Maybe I’m a bit naive to the 80s music, but this is one of the more unique sounding 80s bands I’ve heard. And every song rocks!

Good ole pop

This is so good, what the hell. I really thought I wasn’t going to be into this but it’s just great quintessential 80s synth pop. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this.

I didn't take Duran Duran seriously when this was released. But there's lots to like here - solid rhythm section (bass is often funky), heaps of kybds, band playing as a unit. I/m reminded what a breath of fresh air everything more or less New Romantic was, after punk - you could dance with a smile instead of a scowl. The lyrics of Duran Duran were and are of not much interest - but the music stands up okay. Feeling generous again, I'll rate as Good rather than Okay. My favourite song: My Own Way.

Really good! Way more my style then the first one , actually few songs I added to playlists , 10/10 vibe , but I wasn't really focused while listening so when I go over lyrics it may be even better!

I was wondering if I'd like this more than when I was a kid, and the answer is definitely Yes!. In middle school, this was puffy stuff that the girls liked. I was way too manly man (boyly boy?) to be into such synth pop. Listening now, I was probably more than a little bit closed minded. This is a solid album. Looking past the pretty boy image they honed, there was some great music hiding underneath. Rounds up to a 4.

Really enjoyed it!

Many hits and entertaining start to finish.

Absolutely iconic album cover. Solid 80’s synth pop. Obvious recognizable hits, but even the b-sides are good and danceable.

I've been listening to this non-stop since it showed up here. Oddly enough, I saw the latest film in the 28 Weeks franchise Friday and a few songs from this record were featured prominently, and I also went to the Wet Hot Middle-Aged Dad Jam Band show Tuesday and they covered the title track Rio. I honestly never spent much time listening to Duran Duran beyond the hits ("Hungry Like A Wolf" is such a great song), but I've become a pretty big fan of them!

Ligesom den første vi havde med abba er den her en del federe end jeg synes den behøvede at være. Elsker alle de store omkvæd. Bliver lidt samey i længden men den er ikke for lang

Brilliant stuff

I really liked the vibe, and didn’t even know “Hungry Like the Wolf” was in this album. HUGE fan of “Rio” as well!

Th good songs are always really good, most of the others are meh. Save a Prayer = 5 stars

What fun! The best songs were tops the other songs were also there. Idk maybe i thought it would be a bit more than it was but still v enjoyable.

This was great! I was complaining only yesterday that I was disappointed I hadn’t discovered more new music that I really enjoyed through this project, but I enjoyed this one start to finish and found lots of new songs that I will be adding to rotation. The songs sound big, the hooks are sharp and the melodies that I maybe wasn’t sure about at the start of each song wormed their way into my head by the end. Fave was probably Last Chance on the Stairway but overall great listen

Quite a good album all I can say

A true gem from the 80’s. Fantastic album!

I love a bit of 80s pop and this album is a good example of it. Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf and Save a Prayer For Me Now are all classics and the rest of the album is decent too. It's not quite enough to get a five, but it's a high four for sure.

"Hungry Like The Wolf" is a banger.

Has aged surprisingly well. Was worried going back it would sound hideously dated, but is still shimmery pop music. Enjoyable and fun.

Surprised how much i liked it

Instant 80ies vibes Fast paced start, danceable Cool 2nd track Bit too hectic for me Music is too busy for my taste but its catchy and the syths are funky while cheesy Can be put on in background, but sometimes the synth lines become experimental Synth ballads like save a prayer work Listened to the whole thing

fun pop from a time before corpo slop

Loved the sound of the album. Cool that I knew a song on it. Too many weird sounds throughout for me to really enjoy. Was definitely giving 80's.

I don’t know what else to say except this shit sounds hella 80s. Not in a good way or in a bad way. Very approachable and upbeat and summery . Most of their best songs are on this album.

Honestly made me feel like I was in a coming-of-age movie. I liked it. It sounds pretty familiar as well. Gorgeous cover.

8 - GOOD

I listened to Rio on New Year’s Day while driving back from Birmingham — my hometown and also the birthplace of Duran Duran. Fittingly, I chose the Collector’s Edition, which clocks in at two hours and twenty-seven minutes… exactly the same length as the drive. It felt like the perfect soundtrack to start 2026. I absolutely loved this album. What a way to kick off the year. Rio is unapologetically 80s: glossy synth-pop, tight rhythms, and a sound that is completely unmistakable. You instantly know when a Duran Duran song comes on, and that distinctive identity runs right through the album. I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but it’s a brilliant listen from start to finish. Favourite tracks: “Rio,” “Hungry Like the Wolf,” and “Save a Prayer” are superb pop songs and Duran Duran at their absolute best. I was also pleasantly surprised by “Hold Back the Rain,” which I hadn’t heard before and really enjoyed. Least favourite track: There are a couple of weaker moments — “The Chauffeur” and “Last Chance on the Stairway” felt like filler compared to the album’s highs. Album artwork: A very cool album cover. The colour scheme and artwork are instantly recognisable and perfectly match the slick, stylish feel of the music.

fun listen, no skips but also started to feel the same in places

Easy listening, found it a little stale by the end

Great 80s album. Great tunes.

7/10 Top track: Hungry Like The Wolf

Hungry like a wolf is forever my rock band anthem

Sounds so good. Somehow locked in a state of timelessness. Best tracks: Rio, The Chauffeur, Save a Prayer, Hungry Like the Wolf

Lots of strong Duran Duran songs on this, especially Chauffeur, Rio and the classic Hungry Like the Wolf. One of the stronger 80s albums we've had on here from the New Romantics.

This album was HUGE when it came out! Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf, Save a Prayer defined the musical landscape in 1982, and still hold up in 2025.

super fun and enjoyable !!

Its music that sounds like the album cover.

A classic that outshines its "outdated" and "dad rock" sensibilities, its really cohesive with sort of a case of what yacht rock bands do. They're actually really talented and this fits squarely into the uniqueness of what makes a lot of new wave bands great. Didn't have to research to understand the "why" of why this is great, and the consistency is something I applaud.

Pure 80s, no apologies and sturdy songs with full vocals that punch through windows

8/10 i love this album fr, so many great songs and just overall feel. super nostalgic and fun!

Really solid album. It’s a quintessential 80s rock album, something I grew up on.

hearing it for the first time i knew this was made in the 80s. fav song - save a prayer. didn’t like the singing but LOVED the back

7/10, dost dobro.

Man I LOVED this album as a kid. I still love it but I do think that the second half of the album falls off pretty hard. Like I don’t hate the b sides I just think they pale in comparison. But that’s really my only real criticism, like the album is amazing. It has two of their biggest hits ever and they are MASSIVE hits. The album cover is easily one of the greatest covers of all time. There’s variety and energy in the album from start to finish. Seriously one of the best albums from the 80s!

Punchy drums, great synths, nostalgia, and a great voice

That was great - the basslines really drew me in.

Really liked this one. I did a little reading about how it wasn't commercially successful until it was remastered, very interesting. Takes me back!

I generally dislike 80s music but this is pretty good. The bass player of this band is cooking. It’s hard to take Hungry Like the Wolf seriously because it’s become a caricature of itself over the years, but the rest of the album, especially the title track, is pretty good.

Such a vibe!

Fun listen. Two songs (Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf) that I had definitely heard before but didn't know they were from this album or by Duran Duran. My mom loved this band and I can see why, they have a very 80s sound, and this album specifically had some fun sonic decisions and sounds. Probably liked Hungry Like the Wolf best, but the Chaffeur was fun.

Послухала і перший альбом, там інколи пінкфлойдівські вайби. В цьому діпперплівські

Rio and Hungry Like The Wolf are the headliners. You show up for them. The rest of the album is worth your stay

76/100. A strong new wave/synth-pop record. Packed with catchy hooks and vibrant production, several tracks still sound great today.

Can’t deny the staying power of the hits on this one, but it also gets repetitive to the point of parody. Every song has the potential for being a radio hit but in a cynical “throw a dart” way. The touches of R&B balladry were a welcome showcase of her vocal ability.

I enjoyed this quite a bit. I guess this is the experience I was hoping for when Culture Club showed up, just 80s-tastic fun. I saved this to my library and will probably revisit this. No idea though if their later material will hold up...I may give it a try.

I'm not sure the last time I heard this the whole way through, but I'm guessing I was in elementary school. Obviously "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf" are iconic (though the former has no reason to be nearly six minutes), and "Save a Prayer" is among their classics. I have zero memory of the rest of this album, and it's pretty solid—and so very '80s—though they could shave at least a minute off most of these songs.

Brings back some memories.

Pretty damn catchy

I saved 3 songs: "Lonely In Your Nightmare," "Hungry Like The Wolf," (which I had somehow gone this long without realizing that it's Duran Duran), and "Save a Prayer." However, I just didn't LOVE this and therefore I cannot give it a 5/5. The album artwork is also AWFUL (what am I looking at here? Young Ursula?) and another contributing factor to my 4/5 score.

The three big hits on here are 5/5 songs, the rest are enjoyable but not quite as strong. I love John Taylor's bass playing on here; I don't think I'd noticed before how good it was.

Chad Chad

Amazing. It just makes me want to dance

Duran Duran makes quite the unique name for themselves with this album! Everyone knows their 80s synth-dance new wave hits, "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf", and honestly, those songs are excellent examples of what the entire album has to offer. This album's approach to these genres is honestly super commendable; in 1982, they already had a very futuristic take on these sounds that made them stand above the crowd. As if that's not enough, their use of marimba is highly noticeable on this album and really serves as a bit of a signature. All in all, this is a great album that is cleverly put together. It's hard to imagine the 80s dance-y synth pop craze without this album.

such an exciting album. i rlly like it!

One of Duran Duran’s best albums really enjoyed listening to this one fully

Classic

Schönes aber nicht geniales Album .. who the fuck is Rio

Thought it stood up pretty well to be honest. I used to be into the whole new wave kinda stuff back in the day. My tastes have moved on but I enjoyed this trip down memory lane.

After listening to so many early 80's British New Wave albums in this list that are truly painful, these few that stand out almost feel refreshing.

Not my jam but a few tunes I liked

> The Beatles

What a band! Lots of great tracks on this albums. Phenomenal bass playing by John Taylor.

Love Duran Duran!

really good, i wish people knew duran duran for more of their catalogue than just invisible

This process is helping me understand 80s synth pop in the context of what came before it I can really see why it was so popular. Like everything some of it holds up and some of it doesn’t. But I think this does

A really solid pop rock album with some insane bass playing. "Hold Back the Rain" stands out to me, really awesome song. "New Religion" is really great too. Really gets better as it goes on, honestly. Just an excellent pop rock album. I'm torn about whether to give it a 4 or a 5 though.

One of Duran Duran's best and goes beyond the New Romantic image. Worth it just for The Chauffeur.

Good album love the title track but every song was a good time

I enjoyed this. Liked a few more songs that I hadn't heard. Loved some of the tracks where the chord progression kept you guessing and the song had a different feel.

I love this album—the hits and the deeper cuts, the ridiculous and iconic bass lines, the synths, Simon Le Bon’s distinctive delivery. “Hungry Like The Wolf” and “Rio” are standouts of course, but I’ve always been partial to “Save A Prayer.” My heart says it’s a 5, but realistically, it’s more like a 4 in reality. But I love it!

great album but a couple of generic songs that weren't my favourite

Irresistibly slick 80s pop. Who doesn’t enjoy this?

Favorite track(s): Rio, My Own Way, Save a Prayer Heard before Previous rating: 8/10

This was pretty good i think ill revisit it soon!!!

I'm only familiar with "Hungry Like the Wolf" but the rest of the album was just as interesting to listen to!

This is a good album. I really enjoyed the vibe. Felt quintessentially 80s and also beachy.

A great album with so many classic hits. It does exclude "undone" which is my fave duran duran song, but hits most of the other faves.

Duran Duran’s sophomore album Rio stands as a defining moment in early-eighties New Wave, capturing the sense that pop music was shifting into a more synthetic, futuristic era. After years dominated by folk rock, disco, and soul, the album’s blend of sharp hooks, electronic textures, and theatrical vocals felt genuinely new. The big singles “Rio” and “Hungry Like the Wolf” are immediately catchy, but what gives them staying power is the subtle melancholy beneath their upbeat surfaces. That emotional depth becomes more explicit in the final tracks. “Save a Prayer” is a dreamlike ballad built on warm, drifting synthesizers, while “The Chauffeur” marks the band’s most experimental turn, mixing unusual samples and atmospheric arrangements into something both unsettling and compelling. Taken together, Rio refined Duran Duran’s sound and the New Romantic aesthetic, showing how pop could be both highly produced and emotionally resonant.

Hungry like a wolf punk style karaoke.

It was alright.

When I saw this come up, I was like, “great, another 80’s album :(“ but once I started listening to it, I realized that while still a very 80’s album, it is probably amongst the best of what I would categorize as “80’s sound”.

This was a toss up between 3 and 4. While lyrically it isn't much, honest to god this album is just fun listen to throughout.

I remember listening to this on vinyl when I was 14. Loved it then and, for the most part, it still holds up. Great pop songs with tight arrangements that don't rely on synths to carry it as so many artists did at that time. What stands out now is the bass playing by John Taylor--that guy was on another level. These guys were much more than pretty boys and had some serious chops. "Rio," "Hungry Like the Wolf," "Save a Prayer"--some great songs on here.

Overproduced, dated, cheesy at times, but somehow this album still fuckin rules. Title track is a top tier new wave song, it has Hungry Like the Wolf, and some great deep cuts like Last Chance on the Stairway. Also kudos to the bassist, some insanely funky riffs throughout

This album is really fun 80’s pop, and definitely earns its place on this list as it is one of the best albums the decade had to offer.

Listened to this album and group during the 80's, still like the music.

4/5 - fun album, not super special to me but very groovy

Nice 80s sound. Quite short. A bit monotonous especially in the bonus track versions because all the different variations of “Rio” are so repetitive. That said, the song is a hit.

Really fun pop/dance record. I enjoyed this much more than I anticipated the singles hit hard and the whole album was very consistent.

Great songs, excellent bass.

High 4 Was tempted with a 5. Fun high energy tracks, good songs, good sound. Nice and short too!

Never was a fan of Duran Duran, but I always liked a few songs. Luckilly, almost all of those songs are on this album. The album is essentially 80s, with synthy pop-rock. It's not a 5/5 (but it could be to more avid fans and probably is), but a 4/5, for me. The songwriting quality is great and the musicianship is also.

This wasn't all consistent but when it was good it was 80s and good.

Pretty great

Another album making me question my avoidance of ‘80s rock.

Wow this makes me miss the 80s (I was born in 1998).

que album fantastico

It's a 4. Lots of hits lots of fun.

This shit slaps. When I see this in a record store, I'll need to buy it.

Bit if a nostalgia trip this one, enjoyed it.

Was not really expecting to love this album but it did surprise me A little repetitive but good nonetheless

A classic ‘80s album and group, with such an iconic cover. Duran Duran wasn’t one of my favorites growing up, but I’ve been able to appreciate them more now that I’m older. While this won’t go down as a personal favorite, I do agree with it being on this list. A great example of ‘80s new wave music.

So catchy - I still have Rio stuck in my head!!

Sinister, and yet fun. I’m convinced The Chauffer was the inspiration to a good amount of the White Lotus score.

Quality. Bass for days, 80s through and through but with soul and feeling. Great harmonies, fantastic songs, will be listening again

Instantly brought me back to middle school and high school. Infectious sound, easy to groove to!

Great classic album! My favorite of Duran Duran, classic hits!

Top top new wave album amazing sound

Their second album. Rock / New Wave / Pop. Fantastic opening track. Rio along with Hungry Like The Wolf are two quintessential 80s Synth Pop bangers. The bass on this album is brilliant. The production is so crisp. The album art is very cool. The entire thing is just great, excessive 80s Pop. Lonely In Your Nightmare and Hold Back The Rain are also two good tracks. This is a really fun Pop album.

New Wave power pop, just incredibly 80s, dripping with shoulder pads, mullets, and killer basslines served with a dab of cocaine. This has 3 monster songs in "Rio", "Hungry Like The Wolf", and "Save A Prayer" which set them up for life...

Classic 80s Didn't expect to like this as much as I did. Helps that I've been on an 80s kick as of late. But this one was really enjoyable. Rio and Hungry Like the Wolf were the only tunes I knew, but this will get some more plays soon. This, like the one from the Go Go's are 2 keepers from a time and sound in music that I have ignored for too long.

What else did Rio do besides dance on the sand? To find out we sat down with the It Girl of 1981. Rio is no longer the 19-year-old wunderkind she once was- she walked her last catwalk long before most of you watching today's show were even born but she's still a bird of paradise and that cherry ice cream smile is still able to start and end wars. "Ladies and germs let's give Rio a warm welcome!" *crowd roars* "Welcome Rio! Look at you shine!" Thank you so much it's wonderful being here! *waves at crowd* "Let's get right into it, Rio!" Lets! *crowd roars once again, Rio waves once again* 'My Own Way' was it written by Simon Le Bon about the end of his relationship with you? It was. Very much so. Simon didn't talk about how he felt in those days, so he wrote songs for better or worse- this one was about the two of us when we stopped being us. "How about I name a few songs in rapid succession, and you tell us what comes to mind after all these decades?" Wonderful. Fire away, chica! *crowd roars* Clears throat, "Lonely in your Nightmare" Being your worst enemy and the isolation that comes with one too many bad choices. "Hungry Like the Wolf" Feeding time with the fab five. "Hold Back the Rain" A little saying Nick Rhodes had when he thought I was about to cry. "New Religion" It was a new decade, and sex was the new religion. We all went to church often in those days. More often than not altogether. "Last Chance on the Stairway" No comment. "Save a Prayer" Grace under pressure. Too much cocaine. Making amends via blowjobs and anal sex. God, of course. "The Chauffer" The code/nick name for the solve all solution in the early 1980s. "Thank you, Rio for spending part of your morning with us! Thank you for having me chica! "Doesn't she still shine brighter than a thousand suns? *crowd roars* well you heard it here first as always! See you tomorrow! Kisses, kisses!" Crowd roars. Credits roll. Rio leaves the building. Rio was originally released on the 10th of May 1982.

I wasn't expecting to hear funky stinky slapping bass from Duran Duran. It was very good, I can see why they were so popular. 3.8 outta 5

This is one of the few albums so far that I am incredibly familiar with from start to finish - it was just not quite as good as I remembered. Obviously “Rio” and “Save a Prayer” are the two standout tracks, largely bookending the album, and in between you get a bit of an up and down bit of “filler”. Some filler, like “New Religion” and “Last Chance on the Stairway” are fabulous; some, like “My Own Way” and “Lonely in Your Nightmare” are just a bit dull in comparison. “Hungry Like the Wolf” was a huge hit, but I’ve never really liked it, and the less said about “The Chauffeur” the better if I’m being honest. I think the album still holds up well, and it’s a classic for a reason; it’s just not my favourite Duran Duran album, even if it might be seen as their best musically.
