Really nice surprise in the mix

Such a classic. Love it

Great feel.

Вступительная Rehab будто быстро надоедает из-за своего слишком резкого повторяющегося "no, no, no"/"go, go, go". Back To Black, Tears Dry On Their Own и Wake Up Alone.

Nota: 8/10

The vocals are very strong and expressive, the songs are catchy, and the music is competent. But there's something I've never been able to stand about her music. Her voice grates on me, and the style feels like a boring pastiche of soul and vocal jazz, when I'd infinitely rather go back and listen to Billie Holiday or something. 2/5

A couple of decent songs, but even those are songs I’m already sick of listening to. Good voice, but not for me

Not bad while listening at work. Good production job by Ronson, and her voice sounds amazing. Just doesn't grab me the same way that some of the other contemporary soul/R&B revival sound that was going around did

A horrible week for albums and two 50's themed efforts in a row. Maybe an unfair reflection but I have to go with my gut.

Brilliant first half - back to black is an amazing track. Tails off in second half but an easy ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great voice but fails to hold my attention

1. Rehab 2. You Know I'm No Good 3. Me & Mr Jones 4. Just Friends 5. Back to Black 6. Love is a Losing Game 7. Tears Dry on Their Own 8. Wake Up Alone 9. Some Unholy War 10. He Can Only Hold Her 11. Addicted

Great voice, some good songs, but not my kind of music...

Better than I expected.

Tao bom quanto o outro Back to Black

Great. First song is the worst

Back to black, la canción, is some heavy shit. ¿Solo yo? Amy me comprende.

Ok straight up for me one of the best albums of its generation.. artistry at its best.. Ronson and Salam killed it in the production as well, knew exactly when to get out of the way of amy and when to support her vocals..

gotta love that unique voice, with some honky tonk big swing era throwback beats. iconic pop music that will grace quick-serve restaurant playlists for the next 15 years at least

A classic. Must admit, I didn’t enjoy revisiting as much as I thought I would but still feel it deserves top marks

A 5 star album, as simple as that. Takes me back to nights out in Camden and my time at MTV. One of my faves albums of all time.

You can tell this album is big simply from the length of the Wiki page! This was actually the first time I've listened to the full album. I'm scoring highly for talent, execution, legacy and I'm sure it will influence people for generations to come, but I can't give it 5/5. Other than a couple of songs, it's not totally my vibe. I assume everyone else will give it full marks though so that will more than make up for it. 8.5/10

An amazing album from start to finish. Great production and a generational talent. I'd say this is my first 5/5 that would also be a 10/10.

Always a pleasure to stick this record on. Especially on a Sunday. A mid to high 4.

Eh---this was an okay album. I played it in the background because nothing catch my attention.

No thanks

02/11 - Yesterday I worked on developing the top of wall details at the drum storage building, had a final coordination meeting on the drum storage building, and printed a new set of MFG. I did some miscellaneous items as well throughout the day such as updating the drawing list or adjusting views on sheets. I thought this album was really good. Not one song I didnt like on it or skipped over. Amy's story alone was very intriguing to me and I am curious where her career would have been if she was able to stay clean and continue to outperform her competition.

"We only said goodbye with words I died a hundred times" (Back to Black) "All I can ever be to you is a darkness that we knew And this regret I got accustomed to" (Tears dry on their own) Tenía muchas ganas de que me saliese este disco porque SABÍA que tenía que estar en la lista y me gusta un montón.

Amazing album!

pretty good

Fondamentale

Paved the way for a lot of British retro soul.

Modern classic

“Back to Black” by Amy Winehouse (2006) Always wondered what all the fuss was about. Winehouse’s vocals are interesting enough, a kind of metallic contralto, with little pitch and dynamic range, but adequate control. In terms of composition, there are many familiar jazz, R&B, (early) rock, and even swing structures here, but nothing truly innovative. Some tracks bring to the ear immediate associations with earlier music, especially “You Know I’m No Good”, evocative of the retro swing Squirrel Nut Zippers’ Katherine Whalen on “It Ain’t You” and “Blue Angel” (on the album “Hot” [1996]). Not entirely derivative, but clearly from the same mold. Winehouse’s vocal performance is a distant second to Whalen’s, however. Lyrics aren’t bad—sassiness on display. Not exactly virtue-forming, and attempting to evoke little sympathy, but entertaining enough, if the listener is willing to suspend charitable feelings. A good album and artist, but not great. 3/5

Never understood the fuss about this artist, a fair voice but not great

I did not know that Amy Winbousouse sounded like that, she is super soul..ly? Talk about having biases and asumptions.

6/10 me gustaron como dos

it's Amy Winehouse. pretty good, 8/10

❤️❤️❤️

Good album, great voice.

2006, Soul rnb Pop,

2 good songs. The rest is kinda meeeh.

Jazz, soul, r&b. Muy bueno!

Great stuff!

Solo ella...

Is it good? Who knows? It's sort of like discussing whether Homer's Odyssey is good. Feels a little overproduced, but buried underneath is a pure soul in torment. I've never been a huge fan of throwback music.

Great album, amazing voice! Fave track - I was expecting it to be "Rehab", but I think I'm actually gonna go for "Back to Black"!

No notes needed

Good pop

I remember hearing about Amy Winehouse, but I never really listened to any of her music. I like 60s music, and this is inspired by that era, so I liked it pretty well. It was smooth to listen to.

Miss her. Love is a losing game- forgot how much I loved that song.

Anything I heard between ages 16-24 probably has an advantage over the others due to subconscious bias - this album included. With that caveat, I think this album is a stunner. It also is immortalized by her untimely death, and makes the songs that much more potent. And what a voice! Really love the instrumentation on the album too.

Short and sweet. A modern classic.

A technically good album that ticks the boxes in terms of production and sonic quality; Amy sounds like she is singing about issues close to her. Not really my cup of tea though, found the tracks bleeding into each other after a short time.

Really good stuff, brass +

there isn’t a single song on this album that isn’t good. amy I’m in love with you

know like every word to this album proper classic

awesome!

Surprised how much I liked it

Songs I liked Rehab You know i'm no good Tears dry on their own He can only hold her

I can't help but like this. Especially the Mark Ronson produced tracks - they capture that Phil Spector & Motown vibe so well with just the right amount of modern punch, dynamics, and flair. She has an incredibly soulful voice and her more modern/almost conversational lyrics make the experience more thrilling and not just a revival record. I feel like this is done with absolute reverence for the past while not simply being a reenactment act - similar to the way say the White Stripes' influences are obvious yet they coalesce into something fresh and unique. You can tell this comes from a real place and it is of course a tragedy that she was consumed by her addictions.

I don't know what it is, but I just can't get into Amy Winehouse. I think it's the vocal style. Nothing in it sounds "bad", but IDK. I would like it better with a different vocalist. Instrumentation is fine.

I love the style but songs seem a little repatative

Is it good? Who knows? It's sort of like discussing whether Homer's Odyssey is good. Feels a little overproduced, but buried underneath is a pure soul in torment. I've never been a huge fan of throwback music.

Not bad, but not my cup of tea. Amy has a great voice, but the songs aren't all that "catchy".

I already know this good

Powerful lyrics portrayed by an even more powerful voice. Amy's best piece. Loved it...

I think rehab is one of the best songs of the 21st century so far and the rest of album is great as well

modern, bluesy, raw. I love this album and tragic artist.

Seems to have had a good voice I don't like the singing style the album sounds distorted on the first 2 songs at least - ( Tidal Master quality ) - so it was doomed from the getgo

Better than expected. Upbeat

Not my style of music, but it's catchy.

Fijn rustig album. Zou top zijn als LP

Favorite: Just Friends

Very soulful vocals. Funny jokes about relationships.

ALL HAIL AMY!

Alot of bangers. Not my thing though. Solid Album

Too many trumpets Like Christmas music without the joy Perfect length No business being on any top lists Super forgettable background music No standout songs, they're all the same

fine and cool

It's Amy

One of the great lives of my life

It was fine but it doesn't really do anything for me. Indie girl voice is not my cup of tea, either.

I liked the music more than her vocals.

It was okay. Classic Motown sound with a modern twist. I wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to this album again.

Good vocals and enjoyable tone. She knows what she's doing

Skipped it

Good album, featured songs: Rehab, You Know Im no good, Just Friends, Back To Black, He Can Only Hold Her.

I really enjoyed this album, did not expect to. Not a huge fan of the Rehab song, which I think was the only one I had heard previously.

Recognized two songs. Good music, not my cup of tea, but good music

Weeeeee Amyyyyyy

Great album, great voice

incredible, classic.

fuck that bullshit

Just real good stuff! Real fucking good stuff!!

Drugs are bad. Sad story.

Creative

Really good album, need to listen to more of this.

no thoughts, head empty

can't stop crying when I listen to it

good shit

Really good. Cool vibe.

Never been a Fan of Nirvana. This unplugged record is OK, though.

very good its a classic duhhhhh

Honestly this album was super dull, I don't understand the appeal

I've never listened to Amy Winehouse before. Sadly. Her voice is amazing. The song writing was great. This was just a great album.

There's a certain morbid curiosity here that reminds me of reading David Foster Wallace's thoughts on suicide. Maybe if Amy would have said yes to rehab, she'd still be around, but would we even know who she was? Best track: Rehab

Pretty disappointed tbh. The album was just kinda boring

One of the artists I am still, even today, sad is gone. This is a great album, and a style that wasn't being done in those days. A great loss. The title track is so good, and Rehab, of course. Classic album, all-timer for me.

Tight and jazzy. I expected cleaner production from Ronson. So many of the licks have become cliche, though I was unfamiliar with most of the songs as such.

2006. Key Songs: Back To Black, Rehab, Valerie, Tears Dry On Their Own

I mean...

hands down one of the best albums ever made (also listened to the deluxe version, disc 2 contains a lot of good covers <3)

I don't like Amy Winehouse or the style she sings (I think it's something to do with a "UK sound"), so thank fuck this is only 35min. Gotta give her points for being a big pop singer but not bringing in outside writers, though. 2.5/5 if I could - not sure if I'll give it a 2 or 3.
