When I Get Home
Pretty forgettable album overall. It was short and sweet though so you aren’t trapped with it.
So I grew up on the Beatles so I'm fighting nostalgia with this one. Even so, going back to this album there was a ton of super forgettable tracks here outside of can't buy me love and hard days night. I always liked the later Beatles more than the earlier boy band style of their first few albums, and I feel more strongly about that after this listen. It's not bad, but it's not for me and didn't age that well.
Short and sappy love songs that represent the source of future, better, Beatles albums. A Hard Day's Night is the first and best track on the album, so the remaining songs do little to impress.
Uhhhh it was okay.
likeit
only bc they set their bar too high.
Far from their best but still a nice collection of early tracks in their career. Standouts are the title track, and i love her and can’t buy me love.
Look I don’t like these guys but this album is just… fine.
I had this record growing up so its the soundtrack of my childhood - i cant help but think- has the over-commercialization of their music has gone too far?
I really like all the songs on this album but I don’t think they’re meant to be listened to all in a row
7 / 10
It's the Beatles. Good harmonies, short poppy songs. 3.33 rounded down to 3. Nothing bad, just nothing great either.
Les Beatles
Oui
good classic

5.62/10
I thought I wasn't gonna like this album upon hearing the first couple of songs, but there are ones I like more, so overall, it's alright.
Catchy songs. I think Can't Buy Me Love was my favorite. The harmonizing and music was good. The overall theme was very repetitive and simple. 2 or 3 stars
some classic from them are into this album, some others not so popular too that are okay. However, its sounds very very repetitive. Not their best.
Oh boy! Can’t wait to see what the first album I get is! I hope it’s really cool and fun! Yeah, its music, I guess
Real good album, but feels more like a collection of songs than a cohesive listening experience.

Love the Beatles, liked the album
Has some strong songs. Sound starts to be repetitive.
Not a huge Beatles fan but I didn’t hate this album. It was fun, short, and an easy listen
Was never a fan of the beatles and this album didn't make me one. Good start and bad finish.
not surprising it's a good album - hard to find a bad one in Beatles catalogue. Songs to dance to, songs to say I love you for the millionth time to and one weird jealousy song. I guess it's an artifact of an era, but still threw me off guard. Definitely will be coming back to this one on certain occasions, however I know those occasions will be rare.
It has a lot of good songs, but now listening to it as a full album I got tired quickly from literally every track being a lovesong
3/5
Who is the Secret Beatle in the middle square? Could it be .... YOU!? There are better Beatle albums to come I think
This album evoked no real strong feelings from me. There are some good songs and there were also some forgettable ones. Incidentally my favorite song off this album was I'll Cry Instead, which seems to have the second-least listens on Spotify among the tracklist, so idk what other people are doing.
Hard to rate, there were some catchy songs but most of the album felt pointless. So far not seeing my opinion about the Beatles change after this.
Beatles , wer mag das nicht..
Nice gentle music
its been a hard days night -first song starts immediately with the energy. -COWBELL. -decent start i should have known better -left ear guitar is a bit jarring -little boring -the electric in the right is so plucky if i fell -nice little arpeggiated guitar or is it flanged idk -cheeky bit of harmony -its kind of dissonant -use of minor chords in the harmony is nice im happy just to dance with you -weird off beat low pitch drum -the guitar is so quiet in my right ear -the drums are so over powering and i love her -i think ive heard this song -oh yeah i have this is great -ooh lovely little arpeggiated guitar in the right -drums not needed for this track -ooh little solo nicee -click in the back is piercing tell me why -honky tonk dance track -its a bit much -tell me why they are kind of scary -not a fan of that high bit cant buy me love -yeah its a song -there was no need to scream sir -guitar solo was mid any time at all -like the bass line -the hook is nice -ooh nice piano -no clue who is singing ill cry instead -sad lyrics but the music is happy -heart breaker is no things we said today -all the drums sound electronic even though i know they aren't -Paul has had an easy time -cheeky change up with the tambourine -tambourine really just comes out of nowhere and attacks you when i get home -not a fan -whiney ah lyrics you cant do that -groovy -MORE COWBELL -god they are really hitting that cowbell -nicer harmonies for this song -i like the chorus -good guitar solo ill be back -back to the dissonance -kind of like the guitar riff every now and then Summary Overall yeah its good, its a Beatles album course its gonna be decent although a bit rough in spots. which makes sense as its one of their earlier albums coming out in 1964. some great songs in here but there isnt really a cohesive feel to it. fav song of the album would have to be and i love her, and least fav is when i get home or i should have known better.
Carried by the title track
pretty middle of the road Beatles album. Not my favourite ever but a couple bangers
A couple of bangers but mostly just ok
I love a bit of pop and who doesn't like the Beatles? Having said that, this is one of the most simplistic and least satisfying examples of the Beatles, it's got some stone cold classics, it's got hints at innovation but overall it has more filler than not.
fun album, not as interesting as stuff to come
Lots of songs about love and scoring dates and all that teenage tripe. Mercifully, it's short and catchy.
Historically significant for the boomers? Sure. Sophisticated? No. Different from what was normal at the time? True. Impresses me? Sorry, I'm spoiled by 60 years of pop music evolution.
An uplifting pop-rock album. It's great to know the Beatles better.
Just as I emerge from a recent Beatles rabbithole, this list goes and tries to pull me back in. Only my second Fab Four record from the list, and I’m glad we’re staying toward the beginning of the discography. I’m actually about half way through watching the Beatles 64 documentary right now, so this feels well timed. Is this as good as “the later stuff”, of course not. At least not good on the same way. This is album 3 of 13 (13! in 7 years) an it’s the first one they made after starting to get famous. It’s the first 100% Lennon/McCartney album without covers or standards or anything… and I won’t even talk about the movie stuff. My point is: even if it still kinda sounds like average 60s pop music, this album represents a lot of big steps on the Beatles journey. Before you can swim you have to tread water, and this record is the Beatles proving they can do that all on their own. It still blows my mind that in just a years time we’ll get Rubber Soul and everything after that is the stuff that the “later album” nerds always talk about. Yes, I’ll probably give a few of those records 5 stars, but we aren there yet. I’ve said before that it’s not fair to judge albums based on later albums, so I’ll rate this one in its own. I think it holds up against any other mid-60s records on this list and deserves to be required listening.
As a big fan of The Beatles later work, I can say that this album is fine. That’s not compared to other Beatles albums, that’s just compared to other music in general. McCartney and Lennon are obviously very talented songwriters, and there are some really good songs on here (See the title track and “And I Love Her”), but a lot of it is just decent 60s pop. Better than a lot of 60s pop, but just okay nonetheless.
Interesting to listen to their stuff so many years after the height in popularity
Feels empowering to rate a Beatles album at less than a 5 and less than a 4 at that.
their pop period, I'm on sgt. Pepper era
I don't have the energy to write a review of the Beatles. Listen, they're just not my #1 thing. But they're the Beatles. Nothing I can say here really matters.
There is nothing left to say about this album or the Beatles. For me personally, it's... musically: expertly crafted '60s guitar pop thematically: tediously repetitive
5/10 good but too old
Some songs are great, And I Love Her especially. Pretty ok for most of it though
it was a very good album but it's not truly me cup of tea
Once again I find myself giving the Beatles a 3. Crazy, I know. Much like Revolver, I'm finding there's a couple of great songs and the rest is pretty average. (And yes, it hurt me deeply to give Eleanor Rigby a 3) I'm pretty confident there will be other Beatles albums that get higher ratings from me when I get to them (Abbey Road and Sgt. Peppers for example) but this one was just okay. I get why this was so big at the time, but there's so much better music still to come even just for The Beatles, let alone all of the music that is out there.
I liked the darker ballad-type songs. Not really a fan of the other stuff even if I get why it was important for popular music as a whole.
Goes by in a flash and is pleasant throughout with a handful of standout tracks (the ones you know already). Lyrics are pretty awful throughout - I, sky, why, etc. Some nice guitar work from George Harrison. It’s a decent record but nothing on what came 3 years later.
Had low expectations but surprisingly enjoyed it. I love this band for the record but have always just kind of brushed off half the first of their career similar to many of the british invasion bands. I guess that means I'm more inclined to their songwriting capability? Or that it's more likely to stand the test of time? Still very embedded in the late 50's/early 60's styles but just a nice listen and doesn't overstay its welcome.
The songs are pretty good, but inconsistent in quality where the title track and "And I Love Her" stand far above the rest. Not my favorite Beatles album
Incredibly excited, I really love The Beatles !! This album is so high energy, you can really dance to every song. Fav song is ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’.
Quite a few songs I didn't reconise which was unexpected. I've never been a huge fan of The Beatles though.
6/10 Best songs: A Hard Day's Night, Can't Buy Me Love This album takes me back to those halcyon days of youth in the 60s: riding bicycles on sidewalks under clear blue skies, fathers going to work to have affairs with their secretaries while mothers day-drank to stave off their existential angst and depression. Now, I never said that was my youth, ofc. This album is the exact music that has played in the background of period pieces for decades now. It's very much of the time, building the archetype of 60s rock music, but as a whole it's kinda boring. Sorry, but like, not really.
it's the beatles, but my least fave period
it's cute, i feel like only about half the tracks still hold up but it's a great marker for when songwriting for rock pop takes off
This is better than the last Beatles album I got, but still not amazing. It's fine music for 1964 though, I'll give them that, but just 5 years later we were getting much stronger bangers.
Some repetitive beats... Not bad overall.
We played a bunch of these songs in the Michigan Marching Band, and I dated a drummer for a while who was obsessed with the Beatles, so it really brought me back to the mid 90s, despite being an album from 12 years before I was born. The songs are catchy, but not stand-out.
A good album. Not one for my regular rotation, but it's still good.
I’m never really going to give the Beatles less than a 3 purely out of respect anyways, but this wouldn’t deserve anything less. I think there’s a fair few better albums, probably just because the lyrics are a little dated with this one. Love and relationships just feel like they’ve evolved to the point where we’re allowed to voice the complications in the modern era, rather than being like I just love you in every way and that’s that, and I just think that it makes these lyrics seem a little dated. Ironically ‘and I love her’ is my fave here, and yes I’ve gone basic with the most popular. But the mix of guitars there is too good to ignore. Love a half hour listen also. Good innings all round.
This album is difficult for me to rate. It is very good. And there are more than a few pop classics that are enjoyable and easy listens. But I’ve never been a big Beatles fan. And this album is the epitome of their “early sound”; which is a dated sound that I can, and do, “appreciate” but it’s a sound that gets old very quickly for me…..unless it’s the Stones… 😉
Call me crazy but this album is kind of average as far as the Beatles go if you take out I Love Her and Can't Buy Me Love
Solid enough. It’s consistent, but it’s not The Beatles™️ just yet.
The start of the greatest thing ever
This is the Beatles really coming into their own as songwriters with all original compositions and some all-time great songs like A Hard Day's Night and Can't Buy My Love. That said, other than the hits, I don't really love the dated pop sound. They are starting to sound like the band I love here, and I do appreciate the incredible influence they had on music, but they just haven't quite gotten there yet. Overall, it is a good album, just not one I reach for too frequently.
Still enjoyed it as a Beatles fan, but definitely not their best work.
I love the Beatles, but the earlier bubblegum pop is not my favorite. A few standouts, but overall, it doesn’t hit me like the later catalog.
Favorite Song: A Hard Day's Night
A significant album historically, and with a few interesting signatures that would influence many bands and evolve into The Beatles' mastery of so many layered musical techniques. For me, listening to it on its own merits now, most of the album is an unremarkable string of jangle pop songs that sound largely the same. As an album, on the whole, I do not feel it's that remarkable. The sensation it caused was a zeitgeist of The Beatles' popular ascension at the time. History has its quirks. Were circumstances different, The Beatles' fame may have come later or not at all.
Obviously nothing special musically by later Beatles standards, considering it’s a lot of short poppy love songs, but overall everything is still super fun and catchy so I can’t complain!
'A Hard Day's Night' is a more sophisticated album in its writing and arrangement than the Beatles' first two albums, but also lacks some of their simple, infectious charm.
It’s the Beatles. The songs are good. They are good. The hits are good but I don’t care for the rest of it. The lyrics are dated. I think they are better as they get into later albums.
Never really got into the beatles. this doesn't change things.
Pretty solid little 60s pop album. Nothing really all that amazing here, but you can see why the songs caught on. Overall: 3.2/5
Have I listened to this album before? No How familiar am I with this album? I know a few songs but most early Beatles is pretty unknown to me How do I feel about this artist? I enjoy the Beatles, they’re not my favorite band ever but I definitely recognize their contribution to rock music. I generally prefer their later stuff. Favorite song(s)? Can’t Buy Me Love, Things We Said Today Overall Thoughts: Quality album, but some of the songs are pretty forgettable. I feel like I shouldn’t rate this against later Beatles albums but I can’t help it. There was a lot of poppy-rock music like this in the early 60s and I think it’s just not my thing. It was before 60s music got interesting and The Beatles were a big part of that, just not with this album.
"The Beatles didn't really make anything interesting until Rubber Soul" is like the least interesting or provocative thing you can say about The Beatles. Although, trying to say anything provocative about The Beatles at all is like an extremely midwit thing to do. So yeah, some people like this stuff, some people don't. Whatever man. Listen to stuff you like and don't listen to stuff you don't like. I don't really have strong opinions about early Beatles records one way or the other. This is certainly one of them. I had never noticed A Hard Day's Night had bongos before. DEAR LORD though, why are the stereo versions canon? Go into your accessibility settings and force mono if you're listening to them through headphones. Or seek out the mono versions (so they can sit in your collection and you can be smug about it while pulling out a different Beatles record than this this like 99 times out of 100).
The Beatles did make plenty of good music before Rubber Soul, but lots of it was singles-based. This is the most *historically* important of their early albums because of the movie tie-in and the fact all of the songs are original, but I prefer some of the rawness of With the Beatles/Please Please Me, and there's nothing here in my Top 30 Beatles Songs, so...am I giving this a 3? I think I'm giving it a 3.
It was cute! I can see why women in the 60s would become feral to this, but listening many years into the future, a lot of the songs are pretty samey
it's literally just another Beatles album.
ok albumn 3
At this distance, many of these songs sound like relatively generic, almost throwaway, beat-group pop. It’s hard to put yourself into the world for which a new release by the Beatles was a thing of high excitement. The fascinating thing is how they were so close to going into a much higher realm of music and songwriting. You just get glimpses of it here. Hard Day’s Night and Can’t Buy Me Love stand out by miles from most of the material here. And I Love Her fares less well when heard in its original context, but provides a template for the kind of song that Paul McCartney later excelled at. Lyrically, the phrase “hard day’s night” is itself strikingly clever and presages the greater sophistication to come. It’s interesting though to hear some rather controlling boy-girl relationship lyrics from (presumably) John Lennon in songs like I’ll Cry Instead and You Can’t Do That. These sound like an early manifestation of instincts that he later acknowledged in Jealous Guy.
Mmmm ja..
Notable for being their first album with all songs written by Lennon/McCartney. If I Fell is a top ten Beatles song for me. That said, their first two albums are better and just about every one after it eclipsed this one. Good album for sure, but middle of the road overall.
There are some very good songs here, including some tracks like “And I Love Her” and “Things We Said Today” that are early signs of the brave musical experimentation we would later hear on Rubber Soul and Revolver. I can’t help but think that in an alternate universe where the Beatles never changed their sound and just continued writing pop hits, we would probably look back at this album as a nice collection of catchy songs instead of an “important album by the greatest band in the world.” Take away the Beatles name, and this is a solid album with some solid tunes.
I've never been a Beatles fan, they've just not done anything for me, but I tried to listen to this with an open mind. It was fine. Every song was pleasant sounding, and I bopped my head along a few times. But that was kind of it. Not much really stood out beyond just being pleasant non-offensive 60's pop. "Any Time At All" was the one song that started out with a lot of promise. John's delivery during the opening chorus suggested something fiery was coming. Then it fell back into that sing-songy mellow verse, and it just lost the momentum.
Idk, I think it's ok. It's kinda simple, but it's ok
if you're not a George stan when you're 25, you have no heart; if you're not a Paul stan by the time you're 35, you have no brain
I mean yeah its The Beatles so like what can you really do. Its a decent album with music that would rock your world in the 60's. But its been 60 years and I don't know maybe it's the wrong Beatles album for me.
It's a great album and iconic and all that, but I've heard it so many times just in movies/tv. Of course it's great and still a fun listen every once in a while and I'm sure it changed music etc... It's just not something that I would listen to or seek out just due to the saturation I experienced growing up. Great stuff for the generation before mine. It is interesting how short all the songs are and how short the entire album is when you listen to it all at once.
Delightful!
Abysmal
I must admit that I kind of struggle to care about pre-Rubber Soul Beatles albums. That being said, A Hard Day's Night is definitely one of the best pre-Rubber Soul Beatles albums. But I was not someone who was raised on The Beatles, and these songs do not live in my DNA, like they seem to for so many. So when I hear A Hard Day's Night, I can really just hear a collection of good songs. I understand that The Beatles were doing groundbreaking stuff in pop music, but as someone who did not live through it, I just don't love these songs enough to force myself to mentally travel to 1964 in order to justify a 5 star rating. And even if it wasn't exactly the same sort of music, people were making great, groundbreaking stuff before The Beatles. It's just that if I say that I think The Shape of Jazz To Come or something like that was a greater musical leap forward, I sound like a lunatic because an entire Earth's worth of music listeners happened to disagree, which then causes the Beatles to win the culture war that was never really happening. But at the same time, I do understand how incredible it was that the most popular band on Earth insisted on consistently evolving their sound, all while retaining their status as the most popular band on Earth. Anyways, I digress: as I said, this is a very consistent collection of good pop songs. They're brisk, catchy, and musically distinct. They're also all originals, which was unique for the time. There really isn't anything bad here, but at the same time, there isn't anything that truly penetrates my cold, callous, Beatles-Skeptic heart enough to make me regularly revisit this. There are Beatles albums I truly love, but this era just doesn't work for me the way it seems to work for so many.
Standard Beatles fare! "And I Love Her" struck home, very nice. The rest was fine but didn't really connect. Very listenable though.
Pre-psychedelia Beatles are just fun little guys jamming. You can't help but move to the title track. The rest of the tracks are pretty cool too, but the album's kinda short. Its okay 6/10
Early Beatles that is raw but tight. Starting to sound dated but still a good listen
omg its the Beatles.sounding exactly like Beatles. its like they have the Beatles essence in their core.
Yeah, ok.
solid beach boys battle album but definitely the worst work of the Beatles
This was...fine. I used to viscerally loathe the Beatles, mostly because I couldn't stand the songs of theirs that I heard played on the radio, most of which I determined were pop dreck. I've moderated a bit in my old age, and now consider them somewhat listenable. I mean, Revolver is a legit great album that I'm pretty sure I awarded a 5. Nonetheless, this is a band I won't typically voluntarily listen to, particularly the first six albums. But, as noted, with age and wisdom (and possibly worse knees), I won't leap to the radio to turn them off. This album definitely falls under the category of "won't play voluntarily/will leave on the radio." I had to take a break mid-listen to play some Caspar Brötzmann, but I was able to go back and finish the task at hand. The title track and You Can't Do That are perhaps the best tracks on here. Overall, this about a 2.5, so I'll round to 3 for the great artwork on the album cover.
It's great to really sit down and listen to these classic songs that you think you know, and appreciate new things about them.
Favourite song- Can't buy me love Worst song- I'll be back Rating 3.5/5
one of the beatles albums ever
The third Beatles album is a major improvement over the first two. While I consider Help! and most of the albums that come after as better than this one, it still is a very important and significant album for the Beatles' career. Its back when an album was just a collection of songs rather than its own constructed thing. This one is a great example of what albums used to be.
A solid album overall, but older Beatles just doesn't do a whole lot for me. 3/5
3: 1) And I Love Her 2) I'll Be Back 3) A Hard Day's Night
Fun album. I am still preferring the later Beatles work for the most part, but it's a great pop album, great harmonies in the singing, enjoyable album.
Not my favourite Beatles album by a long shot but there were some little songs on here. The title track starts the album in a perfect way with the first chord setting the vibe. Can’t buy me love is another classic. The harmonica playing on I Should Have Known Better was amazing. A great “new” find
I really enjoy the ballads during this time, but the entire album… eh
Hate to give any Beatles release less than a 4 considering their influence. I’m not making a point or weird statement about anything or trying to have an original “take” on the most popular band of all time. Just listening to this record on its own, there are a handful of tracks that weren’t memorable.
An easy listen
no m gusto mucho
- I used to listen to the Beatles a lot, but I don’t anymore now that I know that John engaged in DV and Paul is a Zionist. - It’s not my favourite Beatles period - I find this stuff dated in that sunny simple 60s and/or sexist way. - Obviously, there are some classic tunes on here — The instrumentation can be kind of basic, but the songwriting is solid, and you can hear that they're getting more interesting than their older stuff. I love how "And I Love Her" has a great minor sound with positive lyrics and "Tell Me Why" has a major sound with sad lyrics, I always love those contradictions in music. - There's also a lot of filler.
Not the best of the early Beatles, but it's still Beatles
I love this album it was fine. I believe The Beatles weren't "legendary" with this album but ı love the tenderness and the lyrics of the songs. I got shivers while listening "I'll Be Back" I LOVE THE "I'LL BE BACK".
song 1: 8/10 song 2: 10/10 song 3: 7/10 song 4: 6,5/10 song 5: 5,5/10 song 6: 9/10 song 7: 6/10 song 8: 7/10 song 9: 6,5/10 song 10: 6/10 song 11: 7,5/10 song 12: 8/10 song 13: 6/10
#2/1001 🇺🇸 and a Beatles album already. This is great fun, packed with 2 1/2 minute pop songs. Its obviously part of their evolution but I'm (maybe unfairly) comparing it with their later more experimental records, so its getting 3 stars. Can't buy me Love and And I Love Her are the stand out tracks for me.
It's a better than bad so 6/10 3/5
I tend to listen to a range of music genres but even though I know and like some of the big Beatle’s songs I have never actually listen to a whole album of theirs before. I did like this album there is some nice songs in here for sure standouts to me being ‘im happy just to dance with you’, ‘and I love her’ and ‘can’t buy me love’. I can definitely appreciate and respect what the Beatles have done from listening to this album as well as hearing what others say about them. However, this album was just good for me not great, an enjoyable listen yes but not life changing.
Vanilla music, nothing exciting but not bad
Captures the early Beatles pop-rock formula and the essence of Beatlemania and a "band as a personality" archetype. Neat timing because we just got the Byrds the other day. I learned specifically of the influence of this album on their sound of Mr. Tambourine Man and, subsequently, 60s rock. Particularly Harrison's jangly Rickenbacker 12-string. Not many opening chords are as instantly recognizable as this one. Can't say it holds up quite as well as their later more experimental albums, as it still contains elements of the early pop "Everly Brothers-style" lightweight rock. I think i like the singles but could leave the rest to the "historically important but sonically left behind" list.
Its The Beatles! I know they are good! But also I listen to them and I feel bored But then Can't By Me Love comes on and holy moly I get it. (this will happen with every Beatles album. I don't think they are an album artist)
sonically beautiful well played and filled with catchy tunes, but god damn these boys are such sweeties i cant take this shit. too many mushy love songs for my taste, my least favorite kind of song. highlights: ripper solo on A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, latin influences on AND I LOVER HER makes me forget it's sappy for a while, ANY TIME AT ALL has a chorus with a nasty little riff that shows some early edge, THINGS WE SAID TODAY is spooky. I like that. 3
3/5
Not my thing really but was short and fun!
This is very Beatlemania. A bunch of catchy love songs with jangly guitars. Easy listening, pop-forward… every cheesy thing you ever said to your high school ex.
This was somehow even more 60s cheese than I was expecting. Almost every song just sounded like a copy-paste of each other. There's hardly any creativity here, and this is only enjoyable if you're young and don't have a properly developed music taste. 'Can't Buy Me Love' is probably the only good one on here.
Really liked a few of these- the rest weren't notable. One sounded like early Decemberists kind of which I liked.
Meg
Road trip with the family. We all sang along, perfect use of this record/band.
Surprisingly short songs. Not for me
I liked it! B side was kinda weak but And I Love Her is great.
i enjoyed it more as it went on.
There is nothing left to say about this album or the Beatles. For me personally, it's... musically: expertly crafted '60s guitar pop thematically: tediously repetitive
it was fun I guess! Fav: Can’t Buy Me Love
not my favorite Beatles album but it had some good songs! sometimes it just felt repetitive
can't believe this album is on here...Revolver is their best album tho
I’ve never been a massive Beatles person so this was new to me. But it’s inoffensive. Very short songs though. I don’t know but I always considered older songs to be longer. But pleasantly surprised. Favourite songs: Hard days night I’m happy just to dance with you Can’t buy me love
Omiljene: a hard’s day night , any time at all, I’ll cry insted, you can’t do that Ukupno: 3,63/5 Sve u svemu bas dobar album, mislila sam da će biti malo dosadan ali uospte nije. Super ritam i muzika- chill, happy, prolece, žuta boja vibes
Good album if I was a teenage girl in the 60s this would've hit but as of now I'm not the biggest Beatles fan I like their music but it doesn't speak to me. And I Love Her sounds just like My Sweet Lord or whatever it is by George Harrison(?). It was interesting and I added most songs to my general playlist. Favourite: Any Time At All/Things We Said Today Least favourite: You Can't Do That
Pop music with a capital P. I'm waiting for the drugs to kick in and the sound to get weird Sgt. Pepper, but it never does. It’s the sonic equivalent of a very nice, very tidy haircut. Spins: 1 Playlist Additions - A Hard Day's Night - I Should Have Known Better - Can't Buy Me Love
The Beatles aren't really my thing. 3.5⭐
My favorite song was And I Love Her. I thought most of the songs kinda sounded the same tbh but i don’t think it was a bad album. I’ve never been much a Beatles fan but I wanted to give them a chance with this album
Good
Yep, sounds exactly like classic ‘60s Beatlemania.
Yes
With A Hard Day's Night, we finally enter the first of 3 Beatles "soundtrack" albums where it blurs the line between original soundtrack for a film and studio release. This is really where The Beatles started to pump out some quality Pop Rock in their typical 60s sound where they still continued to sound above a majority of other releases while not ever doing anything too crazy. It is a safe project by all means, but not to the extent of With The Beatles. The songs are more thoughtful and charming as well as being enjoyable from front to back as this is The Beatles' shortest project ever. All and all, Hard Day's Night is a solid album with solid songs in a solid discography. There really isn't too much else that can be said here if you ask me.
It's very good especially for the 60s but I fant help but think The Beatles have better. 3/5
Ok, I get that it's The Beatles, but why would you include this and not the first record? I think that one is much more deserving. This one is just ok.
It’s The Beatles, so you pretty much know exactly what you’re gonna get when you press play. I’m sure this was a revolutionary sound back in the early 60s, but it seems so pedestrian to me here in 2025. My music tastes are just not at all into the British Invasion stuff. The hits are really good, but the glut of deep cuts on here just don’t hit for me at all. 3/5
More Beatles... 60s pop rock. Maybe it broke ground then, but it's just boring today... Best track - I'm Happy Just to Dance With You, And I Love Her, Tell My Why 3 stars
HELL YEAH
I liked it, but it’s not what I would really listen to, I added like 3-4 songs of the album on my playlist and the rest I found it cool but yeah
GOING IN: No strong feelings LISTENED WHILE: with my morning cuppa FAMILIARITY: Know a few songs SKIP RATE: Played it straight through REPLAY VALUE: Once was plenty DISCOVERY CURVE: Got it by the end ALBUM ARC: Solid all the way VERDICT: Fair enough BODY'S VERDICT: Decent head wobble FAVOURITE TRACK: Can't Buy Me Love My Rating: 3
Listenable.
didn’t listen
Most of these songs sound pretty cool, but I kinda expected more from the way ppl talk about the Beatles. This sounds like it wouldve been on every radio station during the summer. 6/10
BORINGGGG...not bad music though. No soul, no passion, no aggression. Feel like I'm in a jive bar Saved (x/13) - And I Love Her (from the second she started she was different than the others...shes not like other girls)
This was good - I don’t know how much I will ever be a Beatles fan beyond the singles but this was still enjoyable to listen to. A really solid 30 minutes of well written songs and melodies. Probably not something I will ever really be coming back to to listen to again from start to finish but there are still some songs that I would listen to regularly in isolation.
i mean, it's fine
This isn't my favorite era of the Beatles and this album was absolutely not what I was in the mood for this morning. Still, Any Time at All grabbed me and changed my how I was feeling about the whole thing ⭐⭐⭐.25
6/10 Favourite: And I Love Her Least Favourite: You Can't Do That
The Beatles are slowly getting better here but honestly aren't all that amazing at the moment. Some decent tunes but certainly nothing that amazes.
Some nice tunes on here but they're much better after they discover drugs
Sitting here patiently waiting for the boys to discover psychadelics... Some bops on here for sure, I just think I'm more a "The Best. Of The Beatles" fan
Chill sort of thing, I mean what can I say it's the Beatles. Favorite track on this one was the title track cuz I'm like performative like that ig.
I give her all my love its all i do...
Beales
Its consistent, good and fast. But is it not something that i would listen a lot, maybe sometimes. To much love and love and love.
There’s def a few adds here , can’t buy me love being a new fav of mine … but it lacks in catchy tunes relatively and a lot of the songs blend … my least fav Beatles so far
Give me late Beatles and early Stones
Good album
Getting closer to the stretch of Beatles records that exploded my brain, but not quite there yet. Still, this is a big step forward from Please Please Me and With the Beatles.
This one is fine. I'll give it a 3 star. May be my least favorite Beatles album that has come through so far. Pretty boring.
enjoyable to get through
Probably the worst deep cuts of any pre-Rubber Soul Beatles album not named Beatles for Sale. The hard day's night guitar solo tho!
Hard to divorce this from knowing that this is THE BEATLES and how I really feel about this music. I think when a lot of people want to listen to The Beatles, they want to listen to the later stuff...Rubber Soul and everything after and that's exactly how I am. I never really want to listen to the early boy band, ultra pop stuff. Can't Buy Me Love is a classic, so is Hard Day's Night. I think Things We Said Today is also fantastic. But I can't give this a 5, I don't really feel the need to come back to this music again. My rating system is....3 is glad I listened to it, liked it, but probably won't return to it. 4 is something I can see myself returning to. Hard to give anything by The Beatles a 3, but it is what it is. Amazing how they went on to release Rubber Soul a year and a half later and Revolver 6-7 months after that. For me, the most incredible thing about them is how they went from poppy, 3 minute songs to become what they became in the span of 18-24 months. Just unbelievable growth and output in a short time frame.
Not their best.
Good album
I think my least favorite Beatles album. It's still pretty good, though!
Decent 3,5
The hits are definitely the standouts on this one. Most of the other tracks seem to be pretty standard blues-rock fare. Relative to the Beatles later output, and in general, this record is a bit boring. The hits are, however, fantastic.
Was kinda surprised about how literally every song is about love, but then remembered it was the time of peace and love… added 2 songs to my library
Fuck, I don’t care about the Beatles. This record has some of their hits, none of which I want to listen to for fear of getting stuck with the inevitable earworm. Fine, they’re catchy, Paul McCartney and John Lennon were brilliant songwriters, blah blah blah. I haven’t even listened to this record (this is actually first for me to not even to make an effort), and I’m ready to invoke my first true skip. I’m defaulting to a 3 rating, but it’s not a fair one; truly, I have no idea if this is a good record or not. I’ve heard most of this album at various points over the years, so I’m not going to make myself go through the motions on a record I know enough about to legitimately feel like I won’t care about. Probably a 3/5
With 𝘈 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘋𝘢𝘺’𝘴 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, the Beatles reached a turning point — their first album of entirely original material and the first time the group’s sound felt distinctly their own. The addition of a four-track machine at Abbey Road gave George Martin and the band more flexibility, so he didn’t have to keep experimenting with limited stereo tricks to achieve balance and depth. The result is a bright, energetic pop record full of tight harmonies and jangly guitars that defined Beatlemania at its peak. Still, these are the “early Beatles” — fun, youthful, and irresistibly catchy, but not yet the innovative studio band that would later reshape popular music.
Pretty good collection of hits by the fab four. Definitely partial to their later albums though
First Beatles album to come up. I can absolutely appreciate the greatness and legacy of The Beatles but I’ve never been the biggest fan personally. Can see why this was/is so highly regarded but it’s also a bit sickly and also very samey. Any Time At All is great though, probably the best on this record.
Bedre enn jeg trodde
Beatles...estan guay.Un 6.
This is what I expect when I stereotype The Beatles. Love-y, dove-y songs and simple progressions. Honestly, even though this is by far not their best album, it’s not bad by any means. And it makes me appreciate the direction they took for music later in their careers when they got super weird.
not my fav beatles album
3 out of 5. To me this is the first good Beatles album, only going up from here.
The Beatles on tietenkin tuttu bändi. Tätä levyä en ole koskaan kuunnellut. Tuttuja biisejä oli levyn hitit ”A Hard Day’s Night” ja ”Can’t Buy Me Love”. Muuten aika tasapaksu biisi materiaali.
3.5
Of all the music in the world these boys keep coming back
Rooted in early 60’s rock and roll with vocal harmonies, but introduces some jangle pop sounds that would dominate the mid 60’s. Apparently the first album to feature all original material. Notable tracks include A Hard Day’s Night, I Should Have Known Better, If I Fell, Can’t Buy Me Love, Any Time At All, Things We Said Today.
Classic pop era Beatles, sprinkled with a few hits that have stood the test of time.
The most interesting thing about this is how far they’ve come compared to their later albums
Aside from the distinction of being the first Beatles album made up entirely of originals, I’m not sure why this one is on the list. It’s very front loaded and most of side two is just early Beatles by numbers and largely forgettable.
I’m sure this was hugely influential at the time but by modern standards it sounds very formulaic and lacks the variety and surprises of later albums. The chord progressions and rhyming couplets are predictable and quite boring by the end giving very little to pique any interest.
This is like the opposite of the White Album, where that was so long with some really good songs but a lot of filler, this is nice and quick but the songs are just OK. "And I love her" is a really cute song but "West Coast" is one of the most defining songs of the 2010s! Live, laugh, Lana.
Has some highlights but a lot of mid.
Not my favorite Beatles album - read that this was their first album with all original songs, which is cool, but you can tell unfortunately.
heard it before, its alright ig
Being this one of their first few I was expecting to hate it or at least be meh on it but its actually quite nice! Simple but sweet pop melodies that really do leave an impression on me. I'm not so into how lovesick the lyrics are but again, nice album
A good album and a fun listen. The vocal harmonies are the standout on this album. The overall songwriting is good, but I can’t say that I was wowed by any of the songs I didn’t already know. I can’t say I’d actively choose to listen to this album front to back again, but I don’t regret the time I spent on it.
3.3 I don't actively seek out their music, but I cannot refuse the charm of this album. however, the stereo panning in many songs makes it a hard listen
Some great tunes.
A Beatles album with some hits, but... it's a Beatles album with Beatles hits. I can stand a little bit of it every so often, but this was too much early McCartney for my ears. A 3.
Jangly and same-y, but "And I love her" is a great track
know some songs bit didn‘t feel like listening to the beatles today
Classic early Beatles songs. Some songs still amazing today !
Some great songs on this but a lot of them are a bit meh
This was fine. Not their best, but not a bad album by any means.
massively underwhelming considering the albums they came out with after this.
Not the best from the beatles
Excelente introducción a Los Beatles.
nothing stands out but its short and sweet
Good album, lots of decent songs but not one of their best works in their early days for sure
goats
Ok
i’m not a big beatles girlie but they’re not bad. and this album is kind of iconic
Always fun listening to young Beatles
Sounds like a transitional album between the early Beatles pop sound into the sound of Rubber soul. A lot of the songs still have the early Beatles corniness. Best Songs: A Hard Day’s night, And I Lover her, Anytime at All Worst Songs: If I Fell 6/10
It’s the Beatles! I’ve never listened to a full album before and I only know the hits. Every song on this album almost sounded the same, a bit ho hum really. A 3 because it’s the Beatles!
Not my favorite of the Beatles albums but it’s light and fun and I like the Beatles 🤷♀️
Pretty solid album in the Early Beatles discography. I really like "And I Love Her"
Love the Beatles, idk if this is their best album but it’s a classic
Great music and catchy tunes. But the lyrics have more cheese than Thursday night Buff Nachoes.
As someone who doesn’t subscribe to the cult of The Beatles, I knew my enjoyment of this album would be limited - a surface-level only acknowledgement that it’s not good, it’s not even particularly bad, it’s just overrated. Tracks like “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Can’t Buy Me Love” are obviously catchy, even if overrated. Most tracks are just that typical Beatles sound that has never done anything for me, although I’d found myself enjoying “Things We Said Today”, which I had never heard before.
This is still the era where it sounds like generic 60s male vocal group to me, but there are some outliers like “And I Love Her”
Favorites: A Hard Day's Night, If I Fell, Can't Buy Me Love When compared to the rest of the Beatles' discography, A Hard Day's Night kinda settles in the middle, but when you're up against the likes of Revolver, Abbey Road, and a plethora of other classics, that's kind of expected. That is especially the case when you consider how frontloaded this album is. It's actually ridiculous how much better the A-side is compared to the B-side. Despite that, this album is still very solid and worth a listen, because of course it is, it's the damn Beatles for God's sake. 7/10
It’s hard to say what was peek Beatles but put out a film (a comedy adventure) in addition to an album is pretty bad ass. “A Hard Day’s Night” and “Can’t Buy Me Love” (which was also the name of a movie, just not featuring the Beatles) were the big hits.
first 1.4 seconds really carries this album
To be honest, I don't think I've ever listened to a whole Beatles album before. Enjoyed it more than I expected, even the harmonica.
No strong feelings on this one, was an alright listen but nothing stupendous
It is fine. Some well known songs but not something I would listen to in full. In terms of the Beatles, prefer some of the later albums.
You can see why adolescent girls whose parents were listening to Glenn Miller might have been really, really interested in this band.
It's alright, but nothing really stood out. Standout track: A Hard Day's Night
This album isn't bad, but it's not terribly impressive as far as the Beatles go. I think the band really hadn't found their mojo yet, and a Hard Day's Night just doesn't stand up to their later work at all. The music doesn't sound bad, but I think it's hard to justify having this on the list next to so many other better albums from them.
Fine for 1964
3,4/5
Interesting to see the transition between original Beatles and their most popular music
A fun album. The Beatles are overhyped and it put me off listening for a long time, but this album had a great flow and was fun to listen to. Easy to have a little dance to.
When I was 12, my mom's best friend gave us kids all her original press Beatles records to listen to. So I really got into them because it was the 80s, physical media was scarce, and you liked whatever you got your hands on. I remember being especially fond of The White Album. Some artists become so prevalent and ingrained into the popular consciousness that it becomes almost impossible to have an objective point of view about the actual quality of their work. It's like so many people love a thing, that love becomes consensus reality, and then the object of that love transcends itself to become more an immutable truth—like the law of gravity—than, say, some jangle pop some blokes from the UK recorded. Maybe it's coz I grew up being into punk, but I have seldom ever gotten on the hype train with this particular phenomenon. (Take that, Michael Jackson). That is also to say, although contexts cannot be ignored, I strive to evaluate cultural artifacts like this on their own merits despite so much of it living rent-free in my brain for my entire natural life. We know all the melodies and all the words because if you're of a certain generation, they've always been there. Nevertheless, it is difficult to form an uninfluenced impression. It's like having an opinion of the sun. It's just... there. There's really nothing I can say here that tens of thousands of reviewers haven't said before. I don't know if it's important because it is, actually, or because Beatlemania forced that importance upon everyone with ears and eyeballs and all that hype became some inarguable truth. Anyhow, all that said, this record is fine. The (blue version) album art is maybe a little more interesting than the music itself. We get a slice of the random personalities of each member in the Brady Bunch-style layout: John engaging with the camera directly, George smoking a cig and turning his back in one frame, Paul being a bit of a goof, and Ringo looking over it and mopey as fuck as he also puffs away. The red on blue serif typography makes it hard to read and vibratey as hell, but it probably got peoples' attention in the bins. It suggests a photobooth reel but has a stark graphic look that gives it a little edge, which is a little strange given the music is all so accessible and sweet.
Its Beatles, it got some classics
A classic pop album from the Beatles. A lot of these songs have pretty easy replay value, but as an album it kinda feels like the songs blend into a too repetitive range. As you go through the album the songs start to put you to sleep with how similar they sound to each other. For that reason this album wasn't my favorite Beatles album. The quality of the songs I do like are very good though. My top 3 songs from this album are If I Fell, Things We Said Today, and I'll Be Back.
Better than expected for an early Beatles album
It's cool
I was worried familiarity would make it hard to tell if I authentically liked this. But the songs I don’t know are just as strong as the famous singles. Shame it’s only 30mins!
Solid pop album
Averagely ok
another mid Beatles album
I'd never really listened to much of The Beatles pre-Rubber Soul. This is decent and you can definitely sense that they're still honing their song writing here. Maybe not one I'd return to a lot, but a very breezy pop album.
Overall a good album from the Beatles, I feel side one lands better than side 2, with some excellent songwriting. I do find "You Can't do That" problematic though
I started to like it the more I listened to it. There’s some good moments. Very catchy and good song composition. Not really anything to come back to for me.
Bubblegum Beatles was the reason I didn't like the Beatles in my earlier years. Abbey Road came along and blew all my understanding of them away. Once that itch had been scratched, my distaste for their earlier work softened, and grew into appreciation. Had they not continued to develop and deliver I'm not sure how this one would sound, but it did happen, and it's fun to hear their stripped down sound on this.
I love the Beatles, they’re one of my favourite bands, and I understand the importance of this album being all songs they wrote themselves, in saying that I don’t think it’s that strong of an album, the highs are good with hard days and can’t buy me love, but the other cuts unlike other albums are not that great
As a youth, I bucked against the Beatles. They were so popular but their music seemed so thin to me. (Because I never really listened to it deeply). Albums with songs like this were my main defense. Simple, peppy pop born from the early 60's leading to screaming throngs of young girls. Boo! As I grew older and more musically sophisticated, I was able to get to know them through later albums like Abbey Road, the white album, and Revolver. There is some wonderful music there! I could understand why people loved the Beatles. They were revolutionary and they did create new pathways for music to grow into. But I still never got into these first few albums. Listening today I can hear the kernel of genius filtered through the pop sensibilities and what was generally accepted at the time. While I can't really imagine popping this on for a listen, I'll at least give it the respect it's due. Without this, there never would have been those deeper, evolved albums.
30 minutes of pure pop perfection. From the iconic opening chord to the final track, The Beatles deliver an infectious blend of energy, melody, and charm. Every song is a gem, showcasing their early songwriting brilliance and tight musicianship. It’s impossible not to like—this album is a joyful sprint through the golden age of British pop.
Meget sukker sødt, men melodisk. Jeg kunne godt lide Any Time at All.
I can’t wait for the drug albums. It’s obviously very good, but this album does not hit what I like about the Beatles, it’s just very 50’s diner core. Theres something repulsive to me about the “baby girl I love you let’s dance at the school dance and go down to the diner in my car” songs and that seems to be the only thing people could write about then. Give me the walrus, please. There’s historical arguments of course for this to be like a songwriting playbook that set a lot of the tropes that i then grew to dislike but I don’t know. I think the argument in one of the top reviews that to compare this to something like sgt. peppers is unfair is lame. Why would I not compare one piece of art to another, especially by the same band? Isn’t that the whole point of this exercise and rating system? This is not as good as the white album. This is not as good as peppers. It doesn’t touch abbey road. Those are easy 5’s, and having those as a benchmark, this doesn’t hit the mark. To drastically compare two things, carrying stuff by hand was crazy effective and a 5, then somewhere down the line the wheel was invented. The wheel is a 5, carrying stuff by hand is no longer a 5. Rant over, the songs are still good even if I'm not vibing with it lyrically. Feeling a 3.5, not sure which way it’ll lean.
I actually don't think I was really familiar with any of the songs on this album. I think it just shows how deep the Beatles discography is. I am always impressed by how the Beatles are able to pack so much quality into their 2-3 minute songs. The melodies and harmonies are great, and the composition is always good. I will say, I was getting pretty tired of the love theme across the album. There are several albums better than this one, so I'm going to give it a 3.
Have to have every Beatles record on this list, I get it, but this is another example of it's cooler to see where they are going rather than where they are on this record. Their harmonies are incredible, and will only get better from here. John Lennon in particular gets so much better later in their catalogue. So many songs about how they want to hug and kiss girls and then about how these girls are all lame. Feeling a light 3/5
It’s a good album! I like it and enjoyed listening to it! Not much more to say really… I didn’t absolutely love it and I didn’t absolutely hate it! It’s just a good listen! The vocals are absolutely amazing though! I don’t think I would relisten to it though!
Disco mediano.
I recognize the value of this album to the evolution of rock n roll. I heard the creativity of the songwriting and the absolute perfect execution. The subjects of these songs can be dark and if that's intentional, that's fine, but I think that they just reflect the times they were written, ex. don't talk to that guy kind of shit. I love later Beatles stuff. I don't really engage much with this era so I'm grateful for the opportunity but will 100% put on Rubber Soul before this. Like, ever.
yeah I’m familiar.
I enjoyed it.
Upbeat, feel like I'm listening to an Oldie station or a movie soundtrack. Perfectly fine, but nothing really to bring me back. I've always thought that the Beatles were way over-rated...
Early Beatles stuff feels so hit or miss for me. This one, for instance... it's got like 4 or 5 just iconic amazing songs, and then the rest feels like filler.
Dont like the beatles. Some good songs
Twang central. Actually better than I was expecting. Weird how it’s the pretext for rock and roll but also very granddad toe tapping in armchair
166 albums to get to the Beatles...and it's A Hard Day's Night. 60s Bubblegum Pop that's ahead of its peers but still bubblegum pop. They're good at what they do, but here, what they do is pretty by the numbers stuff. 30 minutes is not long enough to get on my nerves.
I think anyone that seriously likes the pre dugged Beatles more than the post is lying to themselves. Its like trying to compare Basketball before Michael Jordan reached the NBA and Basketball afterwards. I will forever stand by the fact that Marajuana and Acid did wonders for this band musically. Before Rubber Soul, its really hard to crawl into this music. So pop filled and mainstream that I can't get behind it. 5/10 because it is better than a lot of the shit albums that are on this list, but I can't in good faith reccomend this album to another as a top album ever made.
Title track is probably my favourite Beatles song. Has a slight punk vibe. Rest is fine albeit too many ballads.
If you take the Beatles for what they are, this isn't a bad album. The Beatles are NOT a rock band. They are a boy band. For a mid-60's pop album, it's pretty good. Catchy, hooky, boppable. You can sing along. Everyone knows the hits. Even the non-hits are "good". But it's the Beatles. My Rating: 3/5. At least there's no sitar.
